What to Remember on Veterans Day During Government Shutdown
November 10, 2025
Veterans Day 2025 is just like Veterans Day every year, a day we honor and thank those who have served in the U.S. military, many of whom served during times of war.
Veterans began as Armistice Day named to remember the day in 1918 on the 11th day of the 11th month of November in the 11th hour, when an armistice or an end to the fighting in World War I happened.
More than 40 years later, almost 10 years after the end of World War II, President Eisenhower signed a bill that changed it to Veterans Day to honor Americans of all wars.
Veterans Day in 2025 comes at a time as a government shutdown that has affected active and retired military and over the last several weeks reduced events to showcase our military including air shows and Fleet Week.
And it comes at a time when there are wars going on in other parts of the world that create some worries that we could be drawn in.
And that’s why on Veterans Day we need to remember those who do and have served and who are ready to answer the call of duty when needed and why a government shutdown and political fighting should not deter us from thanking them for protecting us and our nation’s constitution.
