Corporal Blake Reynolds, a Delaware County Sheriff's deputy, died early Wednesday morning (November 12) after being struck by a semitruck on Interstate 69 in Indiana. Reynolds, a four-year veteran of the sheriff's office, was assisting a stranded motorist when the incident occurred.

According to the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, Reynolds was responding to a disabled semitruck partially blocking the roadway near the 247-mile marker. He parked his patrol car behind the vehicle and activated his emergency lights to protect the driver. While outside his vehicle, another semitruck lost control and collided with Reynolds' patrol car and the disabled truck. Despite immediate emergency efforts, Reynolds did not survive his injuries.

The driver of the semitruck involved in the collision was airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for surgery, as reported by WRTV. The condition of the stranded motorist remains unclear. The Indiana State Police is leading the investigation into the crash.

Reynolds, who joined the sheriff's office in 2022, was known for his dedication and leadership. He served in the Army National Guard before his law enforcement career and was recently promoted to the rank of Corporal. Reynolds married his wife, Allison, in June, and was looking forward to their future together.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office expressed their gratitude for the support from the community and other law enforcement agencies during this difficult time. Chief Deputy Jeff Stanley described the loss as "heartbreaking" for both the department and the community.
