Saks Off 5th, the discount sister brand of Saks Fifth Avenue, plans to close nine stores across the United States beginning in January 2026. The closures are part of a strategy to "optimize" the retailer's store presence, focusing on high-performing and high-potential locations. A Saks Global spokesperson confirmed the news to FOX Business, stating that the move will allow the company to refine its store footprint and better position itself for long-term success.

The stores set to close are located in Austin, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; East Hanover, New Jersey; Niagara Falls, New York; Pittsburgh North, Plymouth Meeting, and Franklin Mall in Pennsylvania; Washington, D.C.; and West Hartford, Connecticut. Additionally, the flagship store on Manhattan's Upper East Side will close on December 31, 2025.

Despite speculation, Saks Global is not filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company is focusing on adapting to changing consumer preferences and a challenging retail environment by investing in more profitable stores and enhancing online offerings. The closures come amid a broader retail shake-up, with over 2,500 U.S. store closures expected in 2025. Analysts warn that total closures could reach 45,000 by 2029 as consumers increasingly favor online shopping over brick-and-mortar stores.

Saks Off 5th, which operates approximately 100 stores across the U.S. and Canada, launched its first outlet store in Franklin Mills, Pennsylvania, and introduced its e-commerce site in 2013. The company remains confident in its strategy to deliver long-term success and continue serving its customers effectively.
