Honda is recalling over 256,600 Accord Hybrid vehicles in the United States due to a software error that could lead to a sudden loss of drive power. The recall affects certain models from 2023 to 2025, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This software glitch may cause the internal system to reset while driving, increasing the risk of crashes or injuries.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the issue originates from improper settings in the fuel injection electronic control unit (FI-ECU). Sudden changes in throttle opening can trigger a torque control failure, leading to engine hesitation, power loss, or stalling. As of mid-January 2025, Honda had received 674 warranty claims related to this problem but reported no crashes or injuries.

To resolve the issue, Honda dealers will reprogram the software free of charge. Owners can check if their vehicle is part of the recall by locating their 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and entering it on the Honda Recall Information page or the NHTSA recall lookup tool. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be sent on January 5.

Ignoring the recall could lead to serious safety risks, including unexpected stalling or power loss, especially at high speeds or in heavy traffic. Honda advises scheduling a free repair appointment with an authorized dealer to ensure vehicle safety and reliability.
