Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow made a surprise appearance a the historic Grand Ole Opry on Thursday evening (November 20) in Nashville, Tennessee.
Holly Williams was part of the star-studded lineup during the Opry show. She performed with her husband, Chris Coleman, and introduced the Country Strong actress to the stage.
“Most of y’all know her on the big screen, but we know her as the third part of our trio that we love to sing together with. Making her Opry debut, ladies and gentlemen, welcome Ms. Gwyneth Paltrow,” Coleman said as Paltrow emerged in front of the surprised audience.
Williams applauded Paltrow’s “secret voice,” and said to the Opry attendees: “Can y’all believe your luck? Y’all are used to those Nashville guests, but not those Oscar-winning Hollywood guests. …Can you believe it? Isn't it annoying when they can just do everything and they just walk out looking all like that, right? Looking real good.”
Together, the trio performed “Drinkin’” and “Waiting On June,” both of which Williams released in 2013.
Paltrow starred in music-drama Country Strong in 2010. The movie, written and directed by Shana Feste, also starred Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester, among others. It follows “a rising country-music songwriter (who) works with a fallen star to work their way to fame, causing romantic complications along the way,” per IMDb. Paltrow is also known for her roles in Shakespeare in Love, Emma, Sliding Doors, Iron Man and Avengers films, Se7en, and many more throughout her career.
Paltrow shared a glimpse of a backstage moment with Williams and Colman on Instagram on Friday (November 21), following her Opry performance. Watch the backstage moment here, and watch Coleman and Williams introduce Paltrow to the stage below.
