Sen. Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) is officially married.
On Saturday (November 29), Booker, 56, tied the knot with Alexis Lewis, 38, during an intimate ceremony in Washington, D.C, just over two months after announcing their engagement.
"Overflowing with gratitude. We said “I do” in two places that shaped us—Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’s hometown of Washington, D.C.—first at the courthouse, then with our families. Hearts full and so grateful," the New Jersey Democrat wrote on Instagram alongside photos from the wedding.
The couple reportedly met in May 2024 after a friend set them up on a blind date while Lewis was visiting Washington. Their first date lasted five hours, and Booker persuaded Lewis to postpone her flight back to Los Angeles for a second date, which he later described as “even more magical.”
Booker announced his engagement to Lewis in September, sharing photos of their beachside proposal.
“Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life,” Booker previously wrote on Instagram.
According to the New York Times, Saturday's wedding was an interfaith celebration, with both a rabbi and a pastor offering blessings. The pair were legally married on November 24 in Newark, New Jersey, Booker’s hometown and the city where he once served as mayor.
“After so many years on my own, I’m not entirely sure I believed I would get married,” Lewis told the Times. “But now, we’ve found each other at this stage of our lives, after epic personal journeys.”
Lewis previously served as an economic policy manager in the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office under Eric Garcetti and now works as director of investments at Brasa Capital Management.
Booker, who represented Newark as mayor from 2006 to 2013 and has served in the U.S. Senate since then, has previously joked that his long-running bachelor status has come up in his political career, including during his 2020 presidential run.
However, as he prepared for marriage, Booker reflected on the death of his father, who he said would've loved his now-wife.
“Early in our relationship, I had a bittersweet moment of grief realizing my father would never get to meet the woman I’m marrying,” he said. “Alexis is exactly the kind of woman my dad would have wanted for me.”
