President Donald Trump appeared to be dozing off in a Cabinet meeting minutes after mocking "Sleepy Joe" Biden and insisting he was "sharper than I was 25 years ago," per CNN.
During Tuesday's (December 2) meeting, Trump blasted The New York Times for reporting that the 79-year-old president has slowed during his second term.
“Trump is sharp, but they’re not sharp,” he said, accusing reporters of unfair coverage of his health and stamina. “You people are crazy.”
However, roughly 15 minutes later, cameras caught Trump struggling to keep his eyes open as Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick led a discussion about his trade policies. The president appeared to continue to fight off sleep during remarks from Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. As Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer spoke, Trump appeared frozen with his eyes closed for 10 to 15 seconds at a time. The president also seemed to be battling sleep while Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a lengthy monologue.

In a statement, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed Trump had been “listening attentively and running the entire three-hour marathon Cabinet meeting.
Tuesday's meeting marked the second time in less than a month that Trump appeared to be nodding off during a public event. Video from a November 6 Oval Office meeting showed him fighting off sleep for nearly 20 minutes.
Trump's apparent struggle with staying awake comes after he spent years attacking Biden's energy level, including calling him "Sleepy Joe."
