New video shows the exact moment a small plane fell out of the sky and smashed into a car on a busy Florida highway.

The dashcam footage, which was recorded behind the crash and shared by Spectrum 13, shows a “fixed wing multi-engine aircraft" collide into a 2023 Toyota Camry traveling southbound on I-95 in Cocoa, which took place at around 5:45 p.m. local time on Monday (December 8), according to the Florida Highway Patrol via Spectrum News 13. The video shows the plane dropping out of the sky into busy rush-hour traffic and careening directly into the vehicle as it attempted to make an emergency landing.

The plane appeared to rear-end the Camry and bounce on top of it before crashing down slightly to its left, which resulted in sparks flying, as shown in the video footage.

The Camry driver, identified as a 57-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital but only reported to have sustained minor injuries, according to Florida Highway Patrol authorities via Spectrum News 13. The pilot and his passenger, both identified as 27-year-old males, however, haven't been named publicly, were not injured during the crash and remained on the scene during the Florida Highway Patrol's investigation.

“We just saw this plane drop out of the sky,” witness Jim Coffey told Spectrum News 13, acknowledging that the plane was seconds away from crashing into his vehicle.

“I noticed it was there, because there’s a plane right there, I was like, ‘Hopefully it lands to the side,'” said his son, Peter Coffey, who also witnessed the crash.

“I thought it might maybe aim around and not hit the car, but bam, the wheel just smacked right dab on the back of the car.”

“Fortunately, the car didn’t roll, it kind of mashed and went to the side,” Coffee added.

The Federal Aviation Administration will lead an ongoing investigation into what caused the emergency landing and the Florida Highway Patrol will lead an ongoing investigation into the crash, authorities confirmed to Spectrum News 13.
