Mickey Guyton shared which one of her family’s holiday traditions is her favorite.
The Texas-born singer-songwriter — who recently debuted her festive 8-track album, Feels Like Christmas — said she and her family have “an international cookout. …This is the thing that we really look forward to and we take it seriously,” Guyton said when she caught up with Woman’s World in an interview that published on Friday (December 12).
“It’s an international cookout where the whole family comes together—in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins—and we pick an international dish that we’ve never tried before, and we cook it,” Guyton told Woman’s World. “My parents have a really big kitchen, and some people cook at their house and bring it over. We try each person’s dish and whoever has the best dish wins. There are great cash prizes. We don’t really do gifts anymore. This is the thing that we really look forward to and we take it seriously. I’ve won it two years.”
Guyton also said “Christmas feels magical again for me,” since she and husband Grant Savoy welcomed their son, Grayson, who will turn 5 in February. The “All American” artist said “there’s nothing like looking through the lens of a little kid.”
Last month, Guyton spoke with iHeartCountry on the red carpet at the 59th CMA Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. She said at that time that she “used to always get the ‘Christmas blues,’ because, you know, it’s just a sign that life is so short. And then once I had my son, Christmas became magical again for me.” She also said “it’s just so important and it’s just been really fun to watch him [Grayson] enjoy Christmas. …It’s been really cool to see him be so happy around these holidays and be with his cousins. We have all these fun traditions that I do with my family, so it’s been really cool to do that with another addition.”
Guyton also spoke with Woman’s World about recording Feels Like Christmas in China (where it was “90 or 100-plus degrees”), the “joy” she feels during the holiday season, her “fun, sexy Christmas song” (“Sugar Cookie”), and more. Find Feels Like Christmas on iHeartRadio here.
