Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) slammed President Donald Trump over his reaction to the death of filmmaker Rob Reiner.

During a recent interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, Crocket said Trump's comments about Reiner, who was recently found dead in his Los Angeles home with his wife, Michele, were disturbing and irresponsible.

“That is a problem,” Crockett said. “As we are sitting here saying, ‘Hey, let’s denounce political violence,’ he continues to kind of fan these flames.”

Crockett's criticism comes after the Reiners were found stabbed to death in their home on Sunday (December 14). Their son, Nick Reiner, 32 has been booked in connection with their killings. Authorities haven't publicly stated a motive.

Trump sparked backlash after posting on social media that Reiner and his wife had died “reportedly due to the anger he caused others” due to what the president called “TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” He later doubled down on the remarks, adding of Reiner, a longtime Trump critic, “I wasn’t a fan of his at all.”

Crockett said she was stunned by the president's immediate reaction to the tragedy.

“I do not understand the moment we are in where that is acceptable — after a tragic death, before having any information,” she said. “And even if you have the information, the idea that you’re like, ‘Yeah, it’s basically because he was anti-MAGA,’ it’s almost like you’re giving a pass for it.”

Crockett warned that Trump’s rhetoric creates what she described as a “permission structure,” suggesting violence is excusable if the victim opposes the MAGA movement.

“It’s almost like if something happens to you, but you were anti-MAGA, it’s OK,” the Democratic lawmaker said.

The Texas congresswoman went on to call Trump's remarks "yet just another example" of hypocrisy in the wake of MAGA outrage over the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

“Besides the hypocrisy, it’s just kind of disgusting,” Crockett said. “I can’t imagine that anyone, whether you’re the president or not, would take this moment and let that be the conclusion.”

Crockett added that Trump’s response raises deeper concerns about the country’s future.

“It makes me wonder where our country is headed,” she said, “and how bad of a shape are we in with him at the helm.”
