A new deep-sea search for the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 plane was launched on Wednesday (December 31), Malaysia's Transport Ministry announced via ABC News.

The ministry confirmed that an Armada 86 05 arrived at an undisclosed, designated search area with two autonomous underwater vehicles and was set to search Western Australia's Fremantle Port in the Indian Ocean. The Malaysian government didn't specifically mention Ocean Infinity, which had been tasked with previous search efforts and was reported to be leading the next venture, however, the craft is widely identified by maritime and aviation websites as belonging to the company, according to ABC News.

The Malaysian government had previously announced that Ocean Infinity would begin searching targeted areas of the Indian Ocean as part of a renewed "no-find, no-fee" agreement. Ocean Infinity also confirmed its plans to resume search efforts for the MH370 flight, but refused to give additional comments due to the "important and sensitive nature" of the operation.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which had 239 occupants, disappeared from radar on March 8, 2014, during a flight from Malaysia to China. There has never been an explanation for the course change and the plane's disappearance has become one of the greatest mysteries in the history of aviation.
