A United States Postal Service (USPS) driver, William White Jr., was arrested on New Year's Eve after allegedly trying to run over a 10-year-old boy in Escambia County, Florida. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the incident occurred on December 27 when White mistakenly delivered a package to the wrong address on Kingfisher Way. The child, who lived at the residence, noticed the mistake and attempted to return the package using his electric scooter.

Authorities said that White, 41, mistook the boy's actions for theft and drove his USPS vehicle toward him, running over the scooter. Fortunately, the child managed to escape into a nearby yard before the scooter was struck. White then took the scooter, placed it in his vehicle, and drove away, only to discard it in another yard after a family member confronted him.

White was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, petit theft, and criminal mischief. He was arrested on December 31 when he returned to work and later released on a $5,500 bond. The USPS is investigating the incident alongside local law enforcement, emphasizing their commitment to the safety of customers and employees.

The FHP confirmed that White had been employed by USPS since 2025.

The case remains under investigation, and further legal proceedings are anticipated.
