1/9/26 Blog: It's The First Ask Me Anything Of 2026!

January 9, 2026

IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO ASK ME GOOD QUESTIONS Or dumb questions. Or any sort of questions, just no math questions, k?

IF YOU GOT GAS AT KING SOOPERS, MURPHY EXPRESS OR COSTCO RECENTLY You need to be aware of this story about diesel fuel being put into the low and mid grade tanks by accident. Chuck's truck is waiting for a tow truck now.

COULD THE IRANIAN REGIME BE FALLING? I've seen other protests that were put down by the Mullahs before, so I'm cautiously optimistic, but we've never seen protests this large IN TEHRAN before. The people are angry and are demanding regime change and they are doing so openly and frequently. The mood has shifted. From the BBC:

Some of the chants heard on the streets over the past few days have been familiar. "Death to the Dictator" is a reference to the 86-year old Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. "Azadi, Azadi", or "Freedom, Freedom" is a common refrain.
Another popular chant: "This homeland won't be a homeland until the mullahs are buried."
New to these latest protests, however, is the chant: "Pahlavi will return," a reference to Reza Pahlavi, the son of the late Shah of Iran who was overthrown in 1979. It was he who called for people to turn out on the streets on Thursday night.

The people are likely demanded a return to the monarchy because they have no other good options, as any opposition to the current regime has been jailed or killed before this. Fingers crossed people, this could actually change the world. The Iranian regime is the single biggest funder of Islamic terrorism in the world. This could be huge. By the way, the mullahs say the protesters are "ruining their own streets" for Trump. Mmkay, it couldn't be the way you've oppressed your people and ruined your economy, I'm sure it's Trump. Oh, hey, here they are burning the tomb of Ayatollah Khomeini, the father of the Iranian Revolution, along with video of the protests overall.

Let's be clear about why this is happening. The Trump administration has crippled Iran's ability to posture because Trump destroyed their entire nuclear program with one strike. Now they have cut off support from Venezuela, and Russia has been drained fighting Putin's war in Ukraine. Please pray for the people of Iran, they need it. The revolution will not be televised because the regime has cut off the internet and owns the television stations, but it will be seen on X. It's not all sunshine and roses if the regime falls however. Read this for more on that.

RENEE GOOD WAS AN ANTI-ICE ACTIVIST BUT... She was connected to an anti-ICE group through her kid's super woke charter school. The woman killed this week after hitting an ICE agent with her car was an activist, not someone in the wrong place at the wrong time. She made choices that put herself in the way of law enforcement actions on purpose. The New York Post talked to other parents and this quote from a fellow parent at the school named Leesa jumped out at me because this is exactly why there will never be agreement about this incident:

“I know she was doing the right thing. I watched the video plenty of times but I also know in my heart the woman she was, she was doing everything right.”

If you believe obstructing ICE is God's work then you believe this. This is what I was talking about when I said there will never be any consensus on what happened here. But the same woman went on to say this:

“[Renee Good] was trained against these ICE agents — what to do, what not to do, it’s a very thorough training,” Leesa said.
“To listen to commands, to know your rights, to whistle when you see an ICE agent,” she added.

Except that is the exact opposite of what she did, so this sort of makes the first quote seem kind of stupid, but that's me. Am I in any way celebrating her death? Absolutely not. Did she deserve to die? Absolutely not. But choices and actions have consequences and she ignored her own social justice warrior training and now she's dead. Mark Halperin writes a great column here about how this incident is seen from each side and it reaffirms my belief that we will never agree on what happened here. This entire story is one of panicked choices made by panicked people. What a horrible situation. The only upside, if there is one, is the tone of many, many people on social media. There are many reasonable people who feel the same way about it, and they aren't trying to stoke divisions, they are trying to be reasonable. That feels different.

THE PAID FOR PROTESTS ARE BEING GINNED UP IN MINNEAPOLIS This young woman is reporting from the site of where the paid leftist protester class is setting up for their standard destruction and looting.

OH LOOK, SOMEONE HIT A TROOPER WITH THEIR CAR Huh, imagine this. A man was pulled over for not yielding when emergency vehicles were present and during the stop decided he was just going to run and in the process hit a Colorado Patrol officer with his car. I wonder where he got that idea that he should fight with officers? Read more here.

A WOMAN IS ATTACKED ON BROADWAY And thank God brave people helped her get away from the person who attacked her. My money is on a drugged out homeless person but we'll have to see because he got away. Please be alert when moving around downtown Denver, it's still not as safe as it once was, even though it's been MUCH better as of late when I dart through it on my way home.

XCEL HAS STONES THE SIZE OF CANTELOPES Because they just asked for TWO RATE INCREASES BACK TO BACK. Why? Because they know the PUC is going to give it to them. I think we need an elected PUC where actual people who aren't in bed with the green energy industry but have to deal with rising bills get to make decisions. Just saying. Using the standard assumption that utilities use for how many customers are both oil and gas customers, Xcel probably has roughly 2 million Colorado customers. They say they are going to spend $22 billion in the next five years on the green energy schemes pushed by the Governor. If they ask for rate increases every time, my back of the envelope math says that means they will need to increase your power bills anywhere from $120 to $220 a MONTH. Is that affordable? Or sustainable? It doesn't feel that way to me. Please click that link and let your voices be heard by the PUC. At least then we can say we tried.

SCARLET IS HOME I shared the story of the lost therapy dog Scarlet in Evergreen, and someone found her!

HUSBANDS, PAY ATTENTION TO SERENA WILLIAM'S MAN I love the way Serena William's husband Alexis Ohanian isn't afraid to come for the haters who come at his wife. It's refreshing to see a man stick up for the woman he loves in an era of internet bullying. And I'm sure she's like "sweetie, ignore them" while secretly being thrilled.

AN 11 YEAR OLD SUES A 9 YEAR OLD And I wish I were making this up. A fight over a toy dinosaur at school left one kid with a badly injured finger. Now that kid has SUED his friend in Canadian court. The judge thankfully dismissed the case. These parents should be ashamed of themselves.

THE ECONOMY COULD BE GETTING READY TO BOOM At least according to Larry Kudlow, who writes about the underpinnings of his optimism here. I am not quite as optimistic as Kudlow but I am optimistic.

COULD JARED POLIS COMMUTE TINA PETERS SENTENCE? He says he will be considering it along with other prisoners for commutation in his last year. Tina would do well to show some contrition, at least for HOW she went about trying to insure election integrity, which was all illegal.

HERE'S HOPING AURORA DOESN'T BACKSLIDE This is a great editorial about Aurora electing a new progressive City Council after the more conservative City Council has made such progress on some big issues. Far from perfect, they attacked crime and homelessness with vigor and effectiveness. I hope the new City Council, while embracing their own vision for Aurora, keep those things in place that are working. I'm still rooting for Aurora and think it is one of the most interesting cities in Colorado.

MIKE TIRICO HAS THE GREATEST JOB EVER He's doing the Super Bowl and covering the Olympics IN THE SAME DAY.

GETTING GOVERNMENT AID? YOU CAN'T SEND MONEY OVERSEAS One of the most scandalous parts of the Somalia fraud in Minnesota is the recognition that an unknown amount of taxpayer dollars has likely been sent back to Somalia in service of the warlords who rule the failed nation. Now that comes to an end. From Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent:

“Following the detection of Somali fraudsters in Minnesota, we will strongly push to prevent anyone receiving federal government support funds from sending money overseas.” Amid suspicions that astronomical amounts have been leaked from the federal government-supported welfare program in Minnesota, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered a large-scale investigation, and it has been decided to take the drastic measure of prohibiting recipients from sending money overseas. Some of those convicted of welfare fraud were found to be Somali immigrants, and the MAGA (Make America Great Again) camp has even gone as far as to spread conspiracy theories that “the money has flowed to extremist organizations in the Middle East and Africa.”

The problem is it relies on honest self reporting, which I don't think is going to happen.
