Fetty Wap reflected on his time behind bars, his views on redemption, and more for the first time since he became a free man.
On Friday, January 9, the New Jersey native sat down with The Breakfast Club for his first interview since he was released from a federal prison in Minnesota earlier than expected. During the conversation, Fetty Wap described how it felt to go back in the studio after spending the past three years locked up and admitted it took him three weeks to write one song. He also shared what he considers redemption, which is simply spending time with his kids.
Fetty Wap, born Willie Maxwell II, was released from FCI Sandstone in Minnesota, after he was sentenced to a six-year sentence for drug charges. The "Trap Queen" rapper will be required to complete the rest of his sentence at home confinement in Philadelphia until November 8. He will also remain under supervised release for the next five years. He must submit to drug tests, seek approval before opening bank accounts, and report his earnings to the U.S Probation Department.
While he was in prison, Fetty Wap said he was comforted by support from his family and select artists from the music industry. He recalled how Coi Leray didn't hesitate to collaborate with him on his King Zoo album in 2023, and promoted their song "1738" as if it was her own. He said he could never thank her enough for that. He also explained how 50 Cent helped him out throughout his incarceration.
"50 did a lot for me. From day one, he reached out like 'Yo, whatever you need, just holla at me,'" Fetty said before revealing the advice he gave him. "'Ayo, stop f**king up. You should've never stopped making music. Like, you should've kept going hard.' 50 gon' say what he wanna say. He ain't got no filter."
After the interview, Fetty Wap linked up with French Montana and Max B, who happened to be at Power 105.1 at the same time. Check out their interaction and watch the entire interview below.
