Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill shared a cryptic post following the firing of head coach Mike McDaniel on Thursday (January 8).

Hill posted a gif of comedian Kevin Hart saying "Damn!" Thursday afternoon without context. The Dolphins announced McDaniel's firing in a statement shared by chairman and owner Stephen Ross earlier in the morning.

"After careful evaluation and extensive discussions since the season ended, I have made the decision that our organization is in need of comprehensive change. I informed Mike McDaniel this morning that he has been relieved of his duties as head coach," Ross said. "I love Mike and want to thank him for his hard work, commitment, and the energy he brought to our organization. Mike is an incredibly creative football mind whose passion for the game and his players was evident every day. I wish him and his family the best moving forward."

McDaniel, 42, went 35-33 during five seasons with the Dolphins, which included the playoffs during his first two seasons, but also a losing record in each of the last two, including a 7-10 finish in 2025. Hill, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in September, had previously appeared to tease a departure in a post shared on his X account following reports that the team planned to bench quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for rookie Quinn Ewers.

Hill shared a gif from the television series Atlanta showing a man giving a peace-sign gesture before disappearing, along with a peace-sign emoji, on December 17.

The post was shared minutes after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that McDaniel planned to bench Tagovailoa for Ewers, who went on to start in the Dolphins' final three games and went 1-2. Hill had previously stated his intention to depart from the franchise while speaking to reporters after the Dolphins' 2024 season-ending loss to the New York Jets and 8-9 finish last January.

“I’m opening the door. I’m out bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there," Hill said via the Miami Herald's Omar Kelly.
