FL Lt. Governor Jay Collins Enters Governor's Race

(Tampa, FL) --Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins is entering the Republican primary race for governor. The former state senator and Green Beret says he's running because "leadership is forged under pressure, not soundbites. "Candidate Byron Donalds is endorsed by President Trump. Governor DeSantis hasn't endorsed anyone yet in the race to succeed him.

Florida Lawmakers Gear Up For Busy Session

(Tallahassee, FL) --Florida lawmakers return to Tallahassee this week for a busy legislative session. Proposals include lowering the age to buy rifles from 21 to 18 and eliminating vaccine requirements in schools. Property tax reforms are also on the table, with some pushing to end taxes on homesteaded homes. The 60-day session runs through March 13th.

Brevard County Instructor Arrested For Molesting Student

(Palm Bay, FL) --A Brevard County instructor is accused of molesting a student. Palm Bay Police arrested Bayside High School music director Brandon Foreman last week. The alleged victim was a 16-year-old female BHS student he was giving private lessons to. Foreman is charged with lewd and lascivious molestation and offenses against a student by an authority figure. He's due back in court next month. 

Altamonte Springs Police Issue Reminder About New Law

(Altamonte Springs, FL) -- Police in Seminole County are using a recent traffic stop to remind drivers of a new law. Altamonte Springs Police announced yesterday a man was pulled over last week on Ronald Reagan Boulevard for having an obscured license plate. The ASPD says the driver had a remote-controlled device in the car that hides the license plate. A law that went into effect in October makes those devices illegal. Police seized the device and gave the driver a criminal citation.

Anti-ICE Protests Planned In Tampa

(Tampa, FL) --Protests are expected today as Customs and Border Protection plans a recruitment event. CBP won't say publicly where the event is being held, but protests are planned at the Carillon Park Hilton in St. Petersburg today and tomorrow. One protest organizer tells the Tampa Bay Times they plan to be visible and peaceful. Some University of South Florida students are also planning a protest at Fletcher Ave and Palm Drive.
