Ron Carter and Ricky Dillard are back with another fresh single from their upcoming collaborative album, and it's iHeartRadio's latest World Premiere.
On Thursday, February 5, the veteran jazz musician and the esteemed gospel singer released their new song "Open My Eyes." On the song, the "Maestro" Ron Carter and the "Choirmaster" Ricky Dillard take the congregation to the Jazz club with their fresh approach to the classic 1895 hymn. The duo fuses the smooth groove of the Jazz bass with the inspirational sounds of the Gospel choir. Ron Carter and Ricky Dillard’s upbeat and rhythmic rendition of “Open My Eyes” is sure to move hearts and stir souls.
"Open My Eyes" is the latest single to come from their upcoming album, Sweet, Sweet Spirit. Ron Carter and Ricky Dillard previously said the album was a tribute to Carter's late mother. It includes 10 tracks featuring collaborations with the Baylor Project, Avery Sunshine, and Wendi H. Wyatt.
"Sweet, Sweet Spirit is a collection of her favorite hymns that fuse the powerful history of Gospel music with the skilled notes and crafted bass lines in Jazz," they said in an Instagram post last year. "This is an album bringing the gospel world into the jazz club, and vice versa."
Prior to "Open My Eyes," Ron Carter and Ricky Dillard shared other singles, including the title track and "Pass Me Not." You can listen to "Open My Eyes" exclusively on all iHeartRadio Gospel stations today before the album arrives on February 6.
