Jo Dee Messina delivered a stunning cover of a classic early 2000s hit during a recent show.
Messina shared a clip of her performance on Instagram on Wednesday (February 18). She congratulated singer-songwriter and pianist Vanessa Carlton on the anniversary of her breakout single, “A Thousand Miles,” which she enthusiastically hailed “a classic!” Carlton released “A Thousand Miles” as the lead single from her debut studio album, Be Not Nobody, in February 2002. The full studio album arrived a few months later. Though “A Thousand Miles” wasn’t released as a single until early 2002, the ballad was previously released on the Legally Blonde soundtrack in 2001.
“If I could fall into the sky/ Do you think time/ Would pass me by?/ ‘Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles/ If I could just see you/ Tonight”
Messina has become known for “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” “Bye Bye,” “I’m Alright,” “Lesson In Leavin’,” “Stand Beside Me,” “That’s The Way” and other hits throughout her career. The country icon has scored awards and nominations from the Academy of Country Music, the Country Music Association, the Grammys and more, and blazed trails that inspired other mainstays in the genre over the years.
