'80s star Bonnie Tyler has been placed in an induced coma, a day after undergoing emergency surgery in Portugal.
On Wednesday (May 6), a statement shared to the "Holding Out for a Hero" hitmaker official website revealed that the musician had been hospitalized for emergency intestinal surgery, though it did not reveal details behind what prompted the procedure.
One day later, Tyler's manager, Matt Davis, revealed that the singer had been "put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery," in a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly.
"We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please," David said on Thursday (May 7). "We will issue a further statement when we are able to."
The "Total Eclipse of the Heart" songstress has released 18 studio albums throughout her career. Her most recent album, The Best is Yet to Come, released in 2021.
In 2024, Tyler reflected on the legacy of her aforementioned 1983 signature song, revealing she still gets excited when she hears it played increasingly during times of celestial events.
"Every time the eclipse comes, everyone all over the world, they play [it] and I never get tired of singing it," she told Good Morning America at the time.
