One Dead As Storms Slam Midwest Region

Severe storms have battered the Midwest, resulting in at least one fatality in Iowa. A man in Des Moines died after being struck by a fallen tree on Wednesday (June 10). The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the severe weather risk over Chicago and other parts of the Midwest, putting millions under threat.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for parts of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, warning of widespread damaging winds and potential tornadoes. According to FOX Weather, a confirmed tornado touched down in Streator, Illinois, causing significant damage but no fatalities. Meanwhile, a large and dangerous tornado was reported moving through northwestern Indiana, prompting a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Tornado Warning.

The severe weather has caused widespread power outages, with more than 230,000 customers without power across the Midwest. Illinois alone has over 138,000 residents affected, particularly in Cook County, where destructive thunderstorms have impacted the area.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch covering parts of Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Indiana. This includes major cities like Chicago and Davenport. The storms are expected to continue moving eastward, affecting areas such as the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
