Are congressmembers above the law?
Glenn recently covered a surprising incident at the Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark, New Jersey. On Friday, May 9th, U.S. Representatives LaMonica McIver, Bonnie Watson Coleman, and Rob Menendez, alongside Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was caught on camera storming into the detention center and assaulting ICE officers. Most notably, Rep. McIver was seen forcibly pushing through ICE agents, with reports of an assault on a female officer, as the group attempted to storm a secure facility housing dangerous criminals.

The group claimed they were exercising congressional oversight and that they were the real victims. However, their claims ring hollow against video evidence and DHS statements, which raises serious questions about their disregard for law enforcement and public safety. But what do you think? Was this fiasco an attempt at congressional oversight? Or an assault on law enforcement officers? Let us know in the poll below:
Did Rep. McIver and her group attempt to force entry into the ICE facility?
Does the video evidence of Rep. McIver shoving ICE agents warrant assault charges?
Should Rep. McIver, Watson Coleman, and Menendez face arrests for their aggressive actions at the ICE facility?
