Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is the best of two pros and a couple of
Joe with Lamar Areas, Brady, Quinn, and Jonas Knocks on
Fox Radio. Yeah, Bruno's had about enough of this whole
set up. It is two pros and a cup of Joe,
Fox Sports Radio, LaVar Arrington, Brady Quinn, Jonas knocks with

(00:24):
you here. You can hang out with us as always
on the I Heart Radio app. You can find us
on hundreds of affiliates all across the country and wherever
the hell you are making us a part of your
Thursday morning. We appreciate you doing so. We're gonna take
you all the way up until nine am Eastern time,
six o'clock Pacific. We are live from Radio Row at
the Super Bowl in Phoenix. And I know what you're thinking,

(00:45):
is there going to be more people here at the
start of the show show four am Local time as
the week continues, And that is incorrect. It is the
same number of people, not a whole lot. But no
matter what we do, this show live from the tire
rack dot COM's studios. Tire rack dot Com will help
you get there and unmatched selection, fast free shipping. Free
road has a protection and over ten thousand recommended installers

(01:07):
tire rack dot com the way tire buying should be.
In fact, it looks like less people. And to your point,
it looks a little some of those lights were actually
on yesterday morning. They are not on the sailing. There's
there's probably. And the big question is will that guy's
alarm go off seven am? Because that clock is still

(01:30):
rolling it looks like the same. Actually they turned it
on the proper time. It was an hour ahead. Yet
it's very true if it goes off, we won't hear it.
But he was giving people gifts on the on the
way out too, by the way, was he Yeah, he
was giving him a gift, nice little bit, free free
sample of crack. I mean, we get Jimmy crack and

(01:58):
I don't care Jimmy crack on, No, I don't care.
By the way, we got our first celebrity sighting. The
great Steve Gorman is yeah, yeah, drummer for the Black Crows,
one of the great people in the radio industry. He's
the guy Steve Gorman is here. You gotta be. It's

(02:20):
not so excited, friends, not so excited, and you know, well,
at least you found coffee today. There's there is that
there is a tall coffee, So I got coffee envy
there by the way, the first time for you though,
that's for sure, just big old, tall black cup of coffee.

(02:45):
I'm not a strong, strong, tall cup of black coffee. Yeah,
it could always be stronger. Yeah, you got to go
to that hotel stuff. That's exactly what we do every
morning to Uh, well, can we talk about the NBA,

(03:09):
because about time the NBA found it, they try to
steal the show. It's about the NBA found their balls
and finally said, you know what, we're sick of you
taking everything from us, headlines, the ratings, the revenue. You
took Christmas Day and we're tired of it. And they said,
you know what, NFL, we know just more. We're gonna strike.

(03:32):
We're gonna set our trade deadline on Thursday when there
are zero more storylines to talk about with the super Bowl,
because we're almost two weeks in and everybody's fed up
with it. And they had a couple of blockbuster trades.
Russell Westbrook that era with the l A Lakers, which
was so smooth gone. He'll be a member of the
Utah Jazz. Who knows if that actually sticks or if
he gets bought out and then can pick and choose

(03:53):
where he wants to go. But the big move late
last night into the early morning hours on the East
coast Kevin Durant. You know the nets, there was a
story they were gonna like try and figure out a
way to build around Kevin Durant. That last at about
forty five minutes, Kevin Durant is gone. He is on
his way to the Phoenix suns uh in in exchange
for that mckel Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jay Crowder for unprotected

(04:18):
first round picks. That is according to ESPN and Woes
and several others that reported it, including The Athletic and
nonetheless the Kevin Durant Kyrie Irving era is gone in Brooklyn.
Well damn, what a what a run winning in Brooklyn
has gone to? What a run? That is? Uh? I mean,

(04:38):
first off, though Duran's not healthy. Isn back yet? Right? No?
Not yet? Booker just got back he was out for
three weeks. Yeah, so, I mean, I'll tell you what.
That makes them a major contender. Though, when Durant joins
Booker and that group comes together, those four unprotected picks,
what years are those? Um? I don't know, Okay, where

(05:00):
you had that, you had the page up and you're
going to draft. I'm looking at odds right now, trying
to start value. Uh my, my thought would be and
we talked about how they're unprotected. You're betting though, that
the Sons are gonna be in contention, These are gonna
be these picks are gonna be late first round picks. Right. Yeah,

(05:20):
that's the reality. So that doesn't necessarily help Brooklyn and
trying to rebuild back up and getting that in exchange
for Kevin Durant. But again, there's they're so far out
there and you never know. Like we we talked, we're
talking before the show the Celtics when they pulled off
some of the trades they did, and everyone was making
fun of all the picks they kept acquiring, and Danny

(05:42):
Ainge was a hoarder for the picks that he was
put in, trying to add up in and rebuilding the
team and and tearing it down from the old to
start fresh again. A lot of those picks ended up
turning into stuff. You know, he ended up, you know,
parlaying that into Jayson Tatum for Marquel Folds when the
Celtics had pick and traded back to three and we're
still able to get their guys. So it's just like

(06:05):
the draft lottery in the NBA, there is there are
no guarantees. The fact that Brooklyn decided this was the
best avenue to take I to tell you about all
the stuff that we probably don't know behind the scenes,
and how bad things actually were there and how how
injured is Kevin Durant right now? I mean, you just
never know how injured guys are because and in the NBA,

(06:28):
soft tissue injuries are a common theme, you know, and
and especially when you're you're not seemingly going to be
playing for that franchise much longer. So that I found
that to be interesting. You know another thing I found interesting.
I thought that for sure, for certain, it was gonna
be Anthony Davis for even swap for Anthony Davis and

(06:52):
Kevin Durant. Yeah, I thought that was I thought that
was gonna be the storyline. But I still think this one.
I don't know that it rivals that if that would
have happened, but man to add to Kevin Durant to
CP three Booker and and uh and that's uh that

(07:15):
you gotta believe that they're the favorite in the West,
that they're automatically as far as the odds go. According
to our friends of DraftKings, their second in odds to
win the NBA title plus four Boston still at plus
three fifty. But I mean the next closest team out
West is Denver, who's eight to one to the top.
But this still continues to build the narrative of to me,

(07:40):
how it can it really is high stakes for Kevin Durant.
And if you think about it, you're in Oklahoma, and
you had some pretty loaded teams that you are on
in Oklahoma, hardened west in and who I mean, you

(08:03):
had a ton of guys. Serge Ibaka's middle name is Jonas.
By the way, I just want to point that out.
That's a fact, could be a surge. That could be
a fact. Ly if we could just double check that,
if not, well, Surge Jonas abakas before we're looking for
and something like that, that's really true? That that that
would be pretty interesting. It is something like that it's
African or or you know of that sort with Jonas,

(08:26):
that's true. It is, Yeah, still see what I mean, Jonas,
how about that that was one where when he said it,
I looked at us or Jonas I looked at you.
He had a twinkle. He was like, no, no, I
know this one's true. You know what that one was
so excited about. That was like you throw down some
money playing roulette and you're like, God, I should have
gone red and not black. No offense to anybody out there,

(08:49):
but I'm just saying, I mean that was kind of
that's why should I should have gone the opposite. So
I didn't want to never goes red, never goes red.
So but but just to finish my point with Jonah
abaka Um on the team is that you're you're talking
about a guy who was only able to get it

(09:11):
done when surrounded with what was perceivably another franchise guy,
which was the guy for the team. And and and
they had a structure that really said that they didn't
need Kevin Durant, although Kevin Durant made them much better,
and they proved that by winning it UH last year.

(09:34):
So you know, I think the States continue to go up, like, Okay,
now you're going to a team that has the pieces
and in the place to to win a championship. Will
he be able to be the catalyst, even though some
would say he was the catalyst and Golden State. But
I'm saying everywhere he's been outside of Golden State, which

(09:56):
was a team that you felt would win with or
without Kevin Durant, this is this is now heavy on
his legacy, like he's got to win. This is it
though it's thirty four years old. Yeah, I can't imagine
he's going to be anywhere else. And he's had major injuries.
This isn't bron this isn't he's had season enders. He's had,

(10:17):
you know, career potentially altering injuries. Um. Good, good for
Phoenix though, I mean good for the Sun's making a
move like this. They had a super block. Someone was asking,
what do you think about Super Week out and finish?
Do you like Phoenix is as a host? I'll tell
you what it's. I mean, they're they try really hard.

(10:38):
I'm just saying, like that's like when you have to
acknowledge your kids not good at something. It's like it
really I've had a good experience out of the weather
has been great, people are super nice. Everyone's trying really
hard to make it like a big thing, a big deal.
Then you got the Sun's coming and making it play.
I mean, I think I think this was all spurred

(10:59):
though with the Cardinals when they came out and said, hey,
we're not making a decision on our head coach. The
next week, the Sun's working around like well this is
just slide on in here. Now make a big move
here for old Kevin Durant. I mean, now we just
got maybe the Diamondbacks will pull off a move, you know,
maybe they'll bring back Randy Johnson, have him kill a
bunch of birds spring training is do you remember that?

(11:20):
I do? But exploded? Exploded, It died on impact. Absolutely,
What are the chances of that you just get a
burn fellow eyes right in the path of the ball.
That's Darwin. Isn't by the way, that birds shouldn't live? Correct? Yeah,
but that's if you're figured out if you're a bird
and all the options and different ways that you could

(11:43):
go out, you can either eat you know a cracker
that's got alka selzer. You're the pigeon that got hit
by the big un Yeah, like that's you didn't see
that big seven foot dude that lefty throwing off. You
see his arm coming down when you decided to was
there's there's something. There's something about that. Like he probably

(12:04):
found out, like you know, maybe his pigeon wife was
fooling around on him and said, you know what, f
this and he ran right in front of a fastball.
Was basically jumped in front of a train. It was yeah,
it was different. It was different. He owed he owed
some pigeon support. Oh you think so? Yeah, he was
far behind the pigeon support. And you know he was like,

(12:25):
you know, hey, you know there's not a lot of options. Mama,
where's daddy who would come knocking on the door to
try to try to force pain? Knock knock? Yeah, yeah, yeah,

(12:46):
he's by baseball. He felt no pain. Remember did Dave
Chaffelle Comedy special when he's like you ever look at
Sesame Street when you get older? He had six ft
tote pigeons walking around. You got an elephant who was
a junkie. It's true, It's true. They're snuffle with kiss.
Can I can I get some sack? You had Oscar?

(13:13):
He was the neighborhood dope man. He's he had a
count who was a pamp to three three three for you,
three for you? Um, do you guys now that we
look bad at the cookie monsters. Oh yeah, got do
you think about it? That's kind of jacked up. Is

(13:36):
they were trying really, we're trying to teach you some
because he has always eating cookie. Yeah, like I need
some snacks. Um. So do you guys now look back
because this is what how everybody is like looking back
hindsight and say, well, it was a mistake for Kevin

(13:57):
Durant to leave the Warriors, because I don't see it
that one. Really, No, I do, Okay, I won, he
won two titles, but he was he was the player
on the floor both those champions. Why did he leave then?
Because he wanted to go do his own thing. He
did his own thing with Kyrie and James Harden. They
were trying to put together the same thing. And he's
not saying it worked, but I'm saying he got his

(14:18):
thing before he got there though. That was that was
that was his own thing before he got there. He
went with Golden State, kind of like Lebron went to
Miami to win. Do they win those titles without Kevin Durant.
I don't think they do, But it doesn't matter because
they won before him, and then they solidified it by
winning after him. Yeah, that's all your hat. That's all right.
That that that argument that this guy, whether whether you

(14:41):
win or lose with him on those teams, the argument
point is still it would be like if Brady went
to another team he unretired and then one another one.
It's like all right if you're yeah the Belichick. But
but here's the thing though, right when when you when
you and the answer is yes, he should have stay
aid he should have he should like you don't, you

(15:03):
don't sometimes and you look at this. We talked about
boy Band's the other the other day. Right, you want
to live in the Bay Area? Come on, I mean,
if I'm winning, what's wrong with the Bay Area? Come on?
You know what I mean? There's a lot there's I mean,
you can't dribble a ball down the street without tripping
on a sleeping bag. Yeah, but there's a lot of

(15:23):
technology out there. There's a lot of good wines there there.
I mean, there's a lot of great sight seeing, a
lot of convenience. He did convenient things business wise. He
has a lot of tech investments that I guess I've
all hit done really well. Is it weird? Though? You know,
when I when I heard of the trade. The first
thought was, man, it's really dry out in Phoenix. Have
you he gets a little asked you sometimes? All right, Well,

(15:45):
I was just talking with Elijah like like like, remember,
wasn't that a thing? Like guys are getting on him
all the time. You had the white powdered ankle. Yes,
I mean he is, he is known for that. There
was a camera shot of his ankle and it was
far from moisturized. Yeah, like that. I sort of guy.
That was one of my first thoughts when I saw

(16:06):
the trail. I was like, oh dry, Yeah, I've been
I've been waking up with with a very very um
crusty nose. It's been very Yeah, it's been pretty crusty.
Man can really dry out here. I forgot about his

(16:27):
legs though, and you know what I came in. My
legs are ashy. I left here. Durant looked like he
had fallen asleep on a on a baseball field somewhere
right as they were doing the Lions, and they just
said we'll just go over him, and it just had
we don't want to move this guy. It's like seven three,
We'll just go right over down the middle of it.

(16:47):
It's like in the middle of the first That's the
problem that that thing was. He was he was. He
was white, that ankle white. He was a mixed kid
that day. On everything. I can claim him on everything,
y'all had it. Y'all had a piece of Kevin Durant. Durant,

(17:07):
y'all had a piece of him because he was a
mixed kid that day. Boy, oh man, I'm just saying, man,
there there is that. I love Kevin Durant. I was
ready and with this and then yeah, he might be
my favorite. I'm trying to think that. I mean, I've
got a few favorite NBA players. I love watching him play.

(17:29):
Love Durant always ever since he's at Texas, And I
love that he goes to people on Twitter. It doesn't
matter who it is. He could be anybody. He will go.
He will. He's got a few minutes, Yeah for you,
for you. Hey, what's up everybody? It's me three time
pro bowler Le Warrington and I couldn't be more excited
to announce a podcast called up on Game? What is

the MMQB. Yeah, and he still in Ohio state. Buck Eye.
I heard there was speculation on what happened anymore. We
tried to say, since you're in Ohio state alone, I
had like a four am wake up call, got to
run in this morning. Yes, I feeling like I got

(19:16):
some energy now, right, So I was saying to Brady though,
like when they have the Super Bowls in the West,
and I like it out here. I don't mind being
out on the West Coast, but the time change with
all of these things. I mean, up at four and
five every morning, and you're also seeing people you don't
get to see all year, and it's like what the
West Coasters hate to hear. And I try to get

(19:36):
to understand. It's just like no one cares about Mountain
or Pacific time you live in. Life on the mountain
time is like the lost time zone. Like I it
took me like three days to acclimate because you never
like three hours for me. I don't know why the
math is easier, but when I'm on the when I'm
in California, I just feel like you never it's either Eastern,

(19:57):
Central or or Pacific. But this is there because it's
only one major city in the Mountain time zone. Two
outside of it's one and a half one and half different. Yeah,
because half Phoenix is half the years. Yeah, that's half
the year. Um, all right, so how we feel and speaking,
let's just keep it in state the Arizona Cardinals saying, well,
we're not going to hire a head coach until after

(20:19):
the Super Bowl. That tells you what when it comes
to who they're looking. Well, I've heard a lot of
a lot of people in the league, and this isn't
coming from inside their building, but a lot of people
in the league think they're kicking the can down the road,
installing so they can talk to the Eagles coordinators and
so look like part of the part of the issue
they had was their general manager wasn't hired until I

(20:40):
think the second week after their season ended, and by
then the window had closed for them to talk to
the Eagles coordinators. Now, what some people don't understand about
the rules is that second window of the Super Bowl
bye week. If you didn't talk to a candidate the
first in the first window, you can't have them in
the second window. Those have to be second interviews. And
so by rule, since they hired their new general manager,

(21:02):
Monty Austin, for it, they haven't had a chance to
talk to the Eagles coordinators and using the Super Bowl
as an excuse would be a convenient way to buy
time to talk to those two guys. And I can
tell you for a fact, like Monty Austin, for over
the last year's built a relationship with the defensive coordinator
of the Eagles, Jonathan Gannon. So is it as simple
as saying this too, Because they've done a bunch of interviews,

(21:25):
they just haven't been impressed by anyone. That's part. If
they would have been, they would have hired someone. But
I mean I think part of it, too, Brady, is
like they the NFL wants the process slowed down. I
think a lot of these teams did research into younger
offensive coaches and what they found is that to some degree,
and that's not this isn't you know, a shot at
any of those guys. So many of those guys have

(21:48):
been hired over the last five years that the pipeline
sort of been sucked dry. So like you look at
I mean, how many how many young offensive coaches can you, like,
like bright young offensive coaches can your name across the NFL?
There aren't tough of them. I mean, like can't Saturday

(22:09):
Saturday Saturday? That is pretty good then you but then
you flip it over and you look at the defensive
side right and you can I mean, is however Overheam,
Worris dan Quinn, Jonathan Gannon, you can go down the list.
And that's a product of hiring going the way that
it's gone over the last five years or so. And
I think that that's led to I think teams being

(22:30):
a little bit and the rules too, but the team
is being a little bit more open going into this,
and you know, I think it's led to you know,
again like the Colts having like fourteen guys they interviewed
or whatever, and over time and and and more teams
going into this process not knowing exactly what they want.
And I mean, I can't remember this ever happening before.

(22:51):
Where we're in Super Bowl weekend, they're two still open.
It's crazy. Yeah, I'm gonna shift gears on you. A
lot of the reason on why I have been feeling
like Kansas City is going to be overmatched is because
of health reasons. But as as I've looked at the
depth chart and injury reports, i mean for both teams,

(23:13):
they seem pretty clean. It seems like everybody's going to
play I know they activated, well, they took him off
Edwards hilarire, they took him off, but they don't have
him listed on the depth chart. It I don't know
if they are, if they're going to use them or not.
But what do you like, what is the feeling on
health wise going into this. So the Chiefs still do

(23:36):
have some they are banged up to some degree. Like
McCole Hartman went on, I are he won't play um
Ka Darius Tony, I'd assume he'll play um but he
was limited. And I think any time guys limited during
super Bowl week like this isn't you know week seventeen,
you know you're not facing anybody. So if a guy
pops up in the injury report during Super Bowl, we
get me. Yeah, And so I I think part of

(23:57):
the strength the Chiefs had over the course of the
year was that they threw numbers. At that situation, we're
losing Tyreek Hill in that receiver group, they were so
diverse and they had so many different guys they could
throw too. When you start to take pieces out of
that hardman out Tony, potentially maybe not a like that
could affect them a little bit at that spot. But

(24:19):
I'd say for the most part, these teams are healthy,
and I mean Mahomes, I think he'll be close to
on Sunday. I do think like hurts his shoulder injury.
We I feel like it's been undersold all week. I
don't that that's something that I like, My understanding was
he's not gonna be a d percent until he gets
some rest after the season. And Brady, I don't know

(24:39):
if you ever went through anything an injury like that,
but he sort of pushed through it a little bit,
and I know they didn't feel like he was. He was.
He was close to fully healthy for week eighteen, and
he's been sort of managing it since it seems that way.
And that's one of the things that I think I've
noticed is we kind of go back to the UM
divisional round. He had that deep past to begin the

(25:01):
game to Davante Smith, and everyone's like, Okay, there's no concerns.
You go back and come through the rest of his throws.
I mean every I mean even the ball plays when
the short throws were off, and so you know, I
had to post through a libermsir. I had haven't injected
after the season when I was with the chiefs in never,
I mean never quite felt right afterwards. Took a lot

(25:21):
of kind of rehabit and like tight it up, make
it feel a little better. But I don't know the
extent of what he's dealing with, but yeah, it's your point,
Like usually injuries don't get any healthier during season and
it takes some time after the season before they feel better.
Albert Brier joining us here on Fox Sports Trading. Look,
you can clearly see like this is all all work
sor reporter at the m MQB. Get him on Twitter

(25:43):
at Albert Definitely, Yeah, he's got he's got real range
and depth when it comes to his art, and yeah,
a lot of it. Um definitely in the key there
so is we were discussing, like Terry Bradshaw's comments about
Russell Wilson and Sean Payton taking the job. He threw
in Kyler Murray as well too, and it felt like, wait,

(26:04):
by the way, tell Albert, how short is Kyler Murray? Oh,
he's not the largest fell in the world. How short?
Like we we we were taught. We saw him actually
sitting on the curb earlier this week and his feet
were danging, so we were we were a little thrown off. Yeah,
we were a little thrown off by that. But who
was he sitting with a horse? Jockey? Probably? But when

(26:28):
he makes those comments kind of built like a jockey out.
I mean no, I'm not saying like like the pro
bowler the hides the hype, but like, yeah, I mean
you kind of like look at the way jockeys are
kind of like short and like jockey's make money. That
we looked up someone because he was he was making
fun of it. I said, look look at the career
and he's like, those dudes get paid the money going

(26:51):
to the horse. I don't. I don't have to. Yeah,
that's my point. I don't have as much of an
issue with the jockeys. It's the dumb horse who let
somebody ride on his back and takes flower said as
a gift. You know, we talked about this all right,
They get the stud out the back end of their lives.
Pretty sweet. Yeah, okay, with every time, let's say, your

(27:14):
lad put her back into it. So how much is
Sean Payton tied to Russell Wilson? Could part of the
delay have been I need to know that if I'm
not feeling it, I can get away from this guy
if I take this job. I don't know if there

(27:35):
was anything said on that. I mean, like I would
say that, and I think I said to you guys
the last couple of weeks there's a good chance he
was going back to Fox because I don't think any
of the situations were perfect. I think Denver has a
lot of the infrastructure that he wanted. You know, I
think he feels like ownership is going is going to
go in a good direction. There's obviously the history of
the franchise. He talked about how he wanted to coach

(27:56):
in the city that had passion. Denver certainly got that
um but I yeah, I mean, I think that the
question is whether or not you can get Russell Wilson right.
And you know, I think the fact that he was
willing to take on Russell Wilson shows A there wasn't
a great option out there for and there wasn't a
perfect option for him, and b how badly he wanted
to coach. Because I do think like he potentially could

(28:19):
have waited a year. And if there are only five
openings this year, that tells you there's probably gonna be
ten next year, right, And so maybe the charger job
is open next year. But he really he really wanted
to coach clearly. UM And I Man, did you guys
see the look on his face when he said that
the other day about the office? Uh? Yeah, No it
was no, no, no no, about the staff, the staff in

(28:41):
the office and all that. It was like it was
more to not real familiar with that. There was more
of a he's drawing a line this in showing he is.
He's saying not only to Russell but to the entire
rock like there I am in, Like there's no question
anymore who's in charge here. And you know, I the

(29:01):
contract is gonna make it difficult to get out, to
get away from Russell Wilson for the next couple of
years at least. Um, But you know, I think that
there's no question that like Russell Wilson's gonna be coach now.
Like Russell Wilson when he went there, a big part
of it was I want all the things that Seattle
denied me. But Seattle it was never going to be
Russell Wilson and in Seattle, And for one year Russell

(29:24):
got that in Denver and it was a complete disaster
and the team got sold and so you have new ownership, now,
you have a new head coach now, and it's again,
I think it's gonna be really interesting because I don't
think Sean Payton's going to build an offense, so Russell
Wilson can burnish his legacy and build a hall of
fame case like and really like a lot of the

(29:47):
a lot of what you heard coming out of Russell
Wilson's camp at the end in Seattle was more about
that than it was building what the right offenses for
the Oven guys. And IB was gonna quickly ask you
about the Colts, like we kind of joked about Jeff Saturday.
What where are they at and their head coaches? It's
been quiet, it has been and I you know, I
I don't think they'll do a third round of interviews, um,

(30:09):
which I mean like this things like this thing is
like the n c A tournament. I mean, it's unbelievable there, um,
you know. The one thing that that there are a
couple of things that are interesting about it. They the interviews,
the last set of interviews, which they think they had
seven guys go through second interviews, or about twelve hours apiece,
four hours of one on one time with Jim Er say,

(30:31):
you're spending different You're spending time with all the individual guys.
You know how many shots and bad music you had
to go through. It's that interview. It's weird though, because
it's like it's like the drunk guy at the bar,
like everybody thinks they did they did well with the
hot girl. Like like I I swear every coach that
comes out of eight there, like the ones that I've
talked to, I think they have it, like everybody thinks

(30:53):
they're in good shape. So um, I mean, I think
Brian Callahan's a really interesting name to watch the Yeah,
so you know Kelli from Denver Um Calli's dad actually
coached Chris Ballard at Wisconsin way back in the nineties
and Cally. As you would know, Brady has the blessing
of Peyton Manning, which goes a long way with your

(31:13):
mercy and with the colts. UM. And I think when
he Morris is another guy who did really well there.
And I know the Rams, at least internally, are a
little concerned about losing him because they feel like he's
got a good shot there too. Um. But you know,
I think this is sort of at the whims of
one guy, and that makes it unpredictable. Jesus, I got
I got one less quick one where themar Hamlin what's

(31:34):
the update on him? And there were reports that came
out that he has not made a public appearance yet,
which I found he could hear Yester yesterday. Well it's
so in the a p so it being the first
time he's done it. But up until you know, obviously
there were questions surrounding the whole heart and and and

(31:56):
what is the what is the latest on he looked
like he was doing great of aar Like I I
honestly like seeing him kind of come up and you
you wonder like when they announced him, like oh my god,
is he really here? You know, and then he comes
out from behind the curtain. And I mean if you
didn't know like what he'd been through, you would know
what he'd been through. I mean he went up and

(32:16):
you know, I guess you hear one of the things
like you gotta get strength back in your lungs and everything.
But he stepped up to the podium and spoke, and
you know this wasn't like something you know, you get
fifteen takes at it, Like he walked right up to
the podium in front of you know, a group of people.
Was the game ever addressed? Has anybody ever addressed? Was? Was?
What was that when they're showing him in the second

(32:39):
quarter of the game with the buffalo? That was? Yeah?
Ever addressed? No, No, well no, he didn't take questions yesterday. So,
I mean, was it a mannequin? It's really what we
want to know. Was it? What fantastic it is? I
don't know what. Yeah, I don't know if I ever
got the full conspiracy were saying they never showed his face,

(33:03):
and there was snow coming down and they would never
and he came in and it was like, yeah, there's
no real proof that he was actually there. They wouldn't
show his face. He was just kind of waving slowly.
It was very odd, the whole things we're speculating could
be a mannequin to blow up doll. Yeah, he also
thought it could have been like remembering at home alone
where Macauley coke. That's just trying to figure out trying

(33:30):
to figure out what that. I was just curious because
I mean, in terms of that being his first public
appearance yesterday, then that would have mean that meant that
that couldn't have been a first public appearance at at
Orchard Park. That's what I was assuming. But yeah, that's
what I was assuming. I mean, you're an insider, so
I just was, yeah, you know, making sure that I

(33:52):
put that out there as as a question just for clarity,
you know, clarification. He honestly, like, I just like it's
impressive of like, look at where he is and everything else.
And I mean, should they raised like nine million dollars
or something like that? Didn't they just want? That was
what he was there for, So like, I, uh, yeah,
I mean it seems like he's doing great. All right,

(34:13):
before we let you go, here's your pick? Al right,
Well we gotta like so I don't want to put him.
I don't want to put him in a tough spot.
But do you think that when on the internet already? So,
when you think the game is over, Albert Brier, do
you think that the Chiefs will have lost by less
than one and a half points? Yes? What are the

(34:34):
favorite right now? One and a half point favorites? See
do you like Kansas City because they like Philly? I'm
I'm with Casey. I think I think Philadelphia is a
more complete team. The roster is more talented. I I
just can't get out of my like you guys, there's
a real there's a real deficiency on the Chiefs team

(34:56):
that was here two years ago that lost the Bucks.
The offensive link and block much better now, you know,
much better now. And so I I think it's I
think the Chiefs team isn't a isn't as balanced and
as strong as the Eagles roster, right, But like I think,
I think that they they don't have like these glaring weaknesses.
And I just can't get out of my head what

(35:17):
happened three years ago where the Niners outplayed them for
three and a half quarters. Like the Niners, I mean,
Nick bos was gonna be the m v P. And
if Jimmy Garoppolo hits Emmanuel Sanders, that game is probably over.
And in eight minutes Patrick Mahomes made three and a
half quarters of play irrelevant, you know, and they wound

(35:39):
up winning by eleven and so and you know the
third and fifteen and everything else. I just I think
the Chiefs are gonna find a way to get this
thing into the fourth quarter where it's still close. And
then I put my money on my homes that situation
where like they weren't two years ago, they weren't in
that situation. I thought it was just because, like if
if you pick this is a little interesting, say you,

(36:00):
if you were to pick the Eagles, right, the Kansas
City fan base is a nice Midwest fan base. You
picked the Chiefs, Philly would let you have it. I thought,
maybe you're a little bit scared about a group that
they have the grease light poles and Philly just because
they're climbing light poles, light poles and then they like
climb up on a bus stop, they're punching police horses.

(36:21):

Doctor David Chow, seventeen plus years, head trainer in the NFL.
He's the official injury expert for Fox Sports Radio. You
get him on Twitter. He's a fantastic follow at Pro Football.
Doc Dr Chow Great seen you. How you feeling early?
Star time as usual? But here we are, good morning. Yeah,

(37:26):
you guys are always on early. You guys are super early, Yes,
super soon at this point. All right, So we were
kind of speculating about the status of you know, both
quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes Jalen Hurts has got the shoulder, Mahomes
has got the high ankle sprain or whatever it was.
Any concerns from you as we head into this game,
or what would be an early sign that maybe things

(37:47):
aren't up to snuff when it comes to either of
these guys, Well, I think they're both gonna be good
to go. Jalen Hurts is the healthier one. Patrick Mahomes
for the championship game. A f C Championship game we
had Sports and New Central had him at eight four
eight four percent effective, not percent healthy because he makes
all these off platform wrong footed throws anyways and arm

(38:08):
angle changes anyways. And he's played through highchol spring before
and he was pretty good quarterback grading one oh five
point four right, he'll be healthier towards pent will raise
him to But Jalen Hurts, I really don't have any
concerns about when Tyree Kill dislocated that sc joint needed
a procedure to put it back in two thousand nine

(38:29):
and five games. When he came back, he missed four games.
He had five seven yards seventeen yards of catch in
the next five games, So Hurts, his numbers haven't been good,
But that might either be a little bit of rust
would be more my more conspigure concern or game script.
Did he really need to throw the ball against the

(38:49):
Fortyre game? Did he need to run at all and
expose himself in the second half of that game? If
you go to the early part of the game, he
threw the ball eight of eleven times and moved it well,
and then it seemed like they throwed back because of
game script. It just seems like a placement has been
a little bit off, even a short intermediate throws. And
I don't know if that's something that would just get
better with time if his shoulder is not feeling a

(39:10):
percent but and that's and that's a rust issue potentially. Right,
He's a young quarterback, very good, but he missed all
that time in the end of the season, and then
there was the by then the Giants to where they
didn't need him full throttle, and then the forty niners
was a weird game. The whole deal. This is gonna
be a tough question. But also I think I think
it's one that I always thought about as a player.
Never made it to the Super Bowl, um, but I

(39:33):
always feel like a lot of people on the outside
probably wonder this. It's the biggest game of a lot
of these players lives. Some will never have a shot
to get back to it, some are battling through different
injuries and whatnot. How do you go about guys who
come up and like just hey, shoot me up, like
like help me feel good enough? Where I can go
out there and play and make it through or take
away some of the pains, so I can feel like
I'm as closed to a hunter per cent as I

(39:54):
can be. Well, Look, I've participated in a bunch of
Super Bowls as host team position in this that the other,
but I've never worked there's a host team physician. Oh yeah,
we'll think about it this way. If you go back
to the Damar Hamlet situation, the Bengals team physicians helped
out the Bills, But who's the home physician here? Who
has hospital privileges? Cardinals assume as well the Cardinals, but

(40:16):
then there's a there's an outfit that comes in. It
helps take care of the stadium, the owners, the game,
all lots of backup medical super Bowl, right, because there's
no post team physicians because everyone's a visitor. But you
know it's well documented. The quote magical healing powers of
the week before. Talk to you about it, the juice

(40:38):
from the guy I call it. Yeah, it floats down
and it's you know it's his. Don't look, you, guys,
is a good healthy week late season and now and
where the playoffs, there's no question you're gonna go. Look,
look at last year c JSAMA. We were saying he's
not healthy on the m m c L, but he

(40:58):
was lobbying to play. Look, I'm fine ripping off my
knee brace and whatever. Wosey too early catches and that's
it last year, right, I mean, you don't want to
miss that game. You don't want to miss any game,
but you don't want to miss this game. Let me
let me ask you, and you talked about that that
m c L. I know my history and understanding of
high ankle sprains. I'm not an expert by any stretch

(41:22):
of imagination, but that is the worst. If I'm not
mistaken of ankle injuries. You mentioned that Patrick Mahomes is
played with this ankle injury before. Is there a chance
it was misdiagnosed in some type of way or how
how moud or how I guess minimum of a high
ankle sprain can you get because the last I checked,

(41:44):
you get a high ankle sprain, you're out. Well. There
are different degrees of high ankle springs, right, and they're
mild modern severe, and the most severe ones need surgery.
So that's not the case for Patrick Mahomes. There are
five other quarterbacks that have had high ankle sprains this season,
and Patrick isn't the only one to play through. Daniel
Jones left the game with the highclels scring Tyrod Taylor

(42:06):
came in, got a concussion, and Daniel Dealones came back
in and finished the game. So it's not unprecedented. But
you know, you saw Mahomes limping. He could not run
to his left. The final run to the right. He
could do a little bit. He was obviously hobbled with
the off platform throws, but it's not impossible. Here's the
big picture. Look, no offense to Mac Jones, but when

(42:27):
you're Mac Jones and you're seventy healthy, Bailey's appy is
the starter. When you're Patrick Mahomes and you're seventy percent healthy,
you are the starter. Okay, I mean I'm just the
way it goes, Okay, Dr Daniel, I'm sure you guys
talked about You talked about that with the staff and medically,
that's the decision you come to, right there's yeah, you
know the decision is can he make it worse? Well,

(42:48):
he might make it more. Sorry, won't make it worse,
but you know you can always get it landed on
the wrong way and then we can get worse, no question.
You know there's always you know, Vitamin T toward all
or numbing injections from it is a Dr David chow
Joining is here x NFL head team plus ye word

(43:13):
for everything. Well, it's a strong anti inflammatory that has
pain relieving qualities, and some people like it for games,
but some people swear by for how it makes them
feel on Monday, you know, so you know, uh, you know,
obviously the league in the players Association has been trying
to clamp down on that. But you know, I can
tell you, like you have a Super Bowl at the

(43:33):
player wants it for this game. I don't think anyone's
saying no, including the Union. I had one of those
IVY companies, like you know they will come out to
you or something sometime and like give you a boost
to like you know, Spider B or whatever else. They
were trying to put that stuff in there. I was like,
I don't need this. I'm not playing a game. I'm
just trying to like feel better. I'm a little like

(43:56):
deal with like yeah, like like people next year in
Vegas there will be people who were getting IVY and
well one of them I'm not gonna throw it on
in there. I'm not gonna throw anyone of the bus.
But I know someone that you know, who's the celebrity
that got an IVY yesterday here in Arizona for other reasons.

(44:20):
But you know that does make some sense. Um, what
can you tell where can I get that out? Dr Chow?
What can you tell us about brock Purty's situation, his
decision to have I don't even what is the procedure
as opposed to Tommy John. What are we look at? Well,
I think they're trying to spend that a little bit.
It is absolutely a Tommy John procedure, It's just not

(44:45):
the classic Tommy John reconstruction for an attenuated owner cloud
of ligment like most baseball players yet, which is twelve
eighteen months. This is closer to what Nick Mullins had,
a little bit close to what Big Bean had late
in his career. So it is possible that he can
return for the start next season. I find it interesting

(45:07):
though that it was quoted to have a six month
timeline ready to start the season. Now yesterday he's deciding
to have surgery on the twenty February, and he's gonna
be ready for training camp, so that timeline got shortened
to five months, and he hasn't even seen the doctor.
He's seen the doctor on the one before. Now maybe
the doctors seen the m R. And not being critical

(45:28):
the doctor. He's a roll respected baseball doctor. Probably a
good choice. But it just seems like you're jury rigging
the timelines to fit the situation. Look, could he be ready? Maybe?
Is he gonna be ad now? Look the four yearners,
John Lynch has to have some sleepless nights here. This
Their team is ready to win Super Bowls, but they
got let down at the quarterback position this year. Can

(45:50):
you really afford to go in the next year with
any question Mark Brock party is not a guarantee. We
hope it works. It should work. Trey lances out here.
He's not a hundred percent and they don't want Jimmy
get Ironically, he's the guy who's healthy right now, and
he's been the one that's given the most success, you
know when he has been in there and starting for them,
so that that is ironic. But you make a lot

(46:10):
of great points about it. I guess I'm just curious,
you know, in baseball pictures, get Tommy John they come
back and they will be throwing harder, or their arms
seems stronger. Is there some of those qualities that maybe
brock Purty would benefit from this? Well, not really in
this sense. Pictures come back stronger because the pictures typically
don't have a traumatic injury. They have wear and tear

(46:32):
ligments over time, their arm has been getting worse, and
their arm gets returned to where it was. This is
a traumatic injury. You know. The pictures are like blue
jeans that were the Denham wears. Why it's it's kind
of like a breast breast left if you will, right,
like I just it's getting them back to where they were.

(46:52):
I thought very related with point video. I hope there's
video of that because there's good video. Is that audio?
Is that fair? Levard that you were a handful? That
was what I did? No, that was not up for debate.
That were a handful doc that Are there any other
notable you know conversations in your circles that are are

(47:16):
taking place as it applies to heading into the super Bowl,
anything to you know that that you've been speaking on. Sure, Well,
you know the Chief's wide receivers. We know Nicole Hardman
is out he likely has a core muscle injury that
might need surgery, same injury that Lane Johnson is playing through.
But it's harder for a speed, quick guy. Because Darius Tony,
it's our feeling that sports Injury Central that he will

(47:38):
play and be fine by video. It was an inversion
ankle spring and he might have a favorable matchup against
Savante Mannox, who played and graded out well. But grading
out well against Brock Purty in the second half of
that game doesn't really mean a lot, and he's been
in a boot. Ju Ju should place through with the
juice you talk about from the biggest one he is.

(47:58):
You know, I look at the bands over there and
it's Lane Johnson is the biggest one that I worry about.
Lane Johnson graded out okay against Nick Bosa, but you
know this Lavark, as you watched, he was trying to
get a jump on the snap count right to get
back there because of his look. He didn't deserves a
medal to play through this to get back to the edge.

(48:19):
His passet was a yard deeper to cut off the edge,
and a couple of times Nick Bosa bull rushed and
knocked him a yard or two back into Jalen Hurts
lap but then eased off. It was a must rush
pass Lane contained, don't let him escape the pocket type strategy.
You saw Fred Warner staying at home the whole time

(48:39):
and all the r p O s they weren't gonna
let Jalen Hurts beat him. So I don't know that
Lane fully got tested. But every move has a counter move.
Maybe the chief see this and put Chris Jones out
there and see what happens. But if you do that,
you know the Eagles probably come back and run the
ball right up the gun where where Chris Jones just left.
So you know, to me, that's the chess match to
watch for this game. Passing downs though, I mean, that's

(49:02):
you know, when you know it's a must pass situation
like they did in the SV Championship game. That's where
they you know, he beat a Dentergy and the rest
is history. Uh. Concussions have been up this year, doc Um,
and I think and maybe even Roger Adell touched on
this to a degree when he talked about it. But
clearly we're doing a better job of trying to diagnose
and make sure we acknowledge, you know, head injuries, handling

(49:23):
moving forward, But what can we do, uh to to
get those numbers backed down? Or do you kind of
view it as it's possible, it's a it's a collision sport. Well,
you know it's gonna go up and down, up and
down no matter what you do, and hopefully the overall
trend is down with the rules changes and re educating players.
It is a collision sport, not a contact sport. Helmets

(49:43):
were built not to prevent concussions, but to prevent skull fractures.
They do prevent skull fractures, the rebound effective concussions very
hard to completely prevent. But the other reason for potentially
up as you say, his attention. Look in social media
world pre COVID, anytime there was a you got act hit,
social media lights up. During COVID, no one talked about concussions.

(50:04):
It was about COVID and the the what was going
on in the protocols, that was the number one item.
Now we focus back on concussions with two and different things.
So some of that is human nature and focus, you know,
like rules don't have to change, but if you tell referees,
we're really paying attention to this certain holding call of
this certain play, uh, pick play. There are more fouls called.

(50:27):
If there's more attention on concussions, the natural, you know,
tendency is to diagnose a few more to be safe.
Dr David Show, NFL team doctor for seven team plus
year head NFL team doctor by the way, and he's
the official injury expert of Fox Sports Radio. Awesome to
get to do this in person. We always learn a
ton uh and and when I like, you make things

(50:50):
understandable for us that that have no idea what the
medical profession is, like yourself understand nothing. How about this,
I do have a for you. What is it like
for you as a as a physician, like preparing the
last twenty four hours for like, like no one really
knows what you guys go through as you kind of prepared,
I assume you're kind of helping talking to the team

(51:12):
about different players, who's up, who's down, all that, all
the decisions that go into that for for Sunday, Well,
you know, it's kind of like uh, doing a term
paper or studying for a test. The hope is that
you've done it all season long, all semester long, and
your your your paper is done the week before and
you're just editing, and that's usually the case with medical.

(51:32):
We've had the discussions along the Saturday night before. Those
discussions are maybe confirmatory at best, or unless there's oh
my gosh, Jason Kelsey has back spasm, is what do
we do now? You know, uh, I'm sorry, Travis Kelsey,
thank you. You know, uh, last minute things, but generally,
you know, your goal is to be prepared all along. Look,

(51:55):
when you make the Super Bowl, the team doctors here
the entire year week right, It's not just flying in
the day of the game. So all all hands on
deck for this game, no question. Awesome stuff. Thank you, doctor,
