(00:23):
Fox Sports Radio. We haven't talked about this story yet,
but I think it is a mess for the UH,
for the Kansas City Chiefs. If you'll remember, on February fourth,
right before the Super Bowl, Britt Reid, who is the
son of Andy Reid, the head coach of the Kansas

(00:44):
City Chiefs, he was in an accident um and injured
very severely a five year old girl in a traffic accident,
and there were reports that he may have been drinking
before that accident. Well, he was charged with a felony
d w I on Monday in the Kansas City area,

(01:06):
and prosecutors announced that they are intending to hold him
accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Britt Reid
had a point one one three blood alcohol level at
the time of the accident. Now, this five year old girl,
unfortunately has been severely injured in the process and is

(01:27):
going to have all sorts of challenges living a normal life,
according to reports, as she attempts to recover from the
accident that she was that that britt Read caused there
on the side of the road, and he was allegedly,
by the way, going somewhere in excess of eighty miles
an hour according to reports, maybe around eighty four miles

(01:49):
per hour right before the accident. And again he had
a blood alcohol level of point one one three and
he has been charged with a felony d w I So,
I think this is an interesting, uh point of discussion.
I'm gonna put my lawyer hat on here. Britt Read
has been fired, by the way, by the Kansas City Chiefs,
so he's no longer an employee. His dad, Andy obviously

(02:10):
remains the head football coach there. Where this could become
a big story going forward is I think many people
are going to start to ask the question where was
britt Read drinking? Because this accident occurred not very far
from the Kansas City Chiefs facility, and so to my knowledge,

(02:31):
and there are some media that are starting to ask
this question. To my knowledge, there has not been any
report officially of where he was drinking. And the danger
here for the NFL from the perspective of a team
being involved, is it's possible he was drinking at or
near the facility in some way. So what would be

(02:52):
the implications under the NFL Personal conduct policy for a
franchise if they were having alcohol consumed on the premises
and then that led to this accident. It could be
a significant issue for the Kansas City Chiefs going forward.
And I'm thinking about this because I've seen some people

(03:13):
talk about it but a very minimal degree, and I've
talked about it a little bit on this program, but
hardly anybody else. And then I saw Dan Wetzel, who
has long been a friend of the program. UH. Dan
Wetzel came out and said it's time for the chiefs
in the NFL to provide answers in the tragic britt
Read DWI case. And the headline for his story is

(03:37):
where was britt Read drinking before his alleged d W
I the chiefs in the NFL, oh the public and answer,
And I think that's true. And again some of the
details of this UH. Just after nine thirty on February four,
in the evening, he drove his pickup truck into two
cars parked on the highway's breakdown lane. Two children were hurt,

(04:00):
and Uh, the five year old girl in this case,
Ariel Young, was in the backseat of her mom's Chevy Traverse,
and she suffered I'm reading from Dan Wetzel's article, a
traumatic brain injury. And now months later we're into April,
obviously after this incident happened in early February. She can't

(04:21):
walk or talk. She's finally out of the hospital, but
she's being fed by a tube. And so, I mean,
this is a devastating injury for this five year old girl.
And as a result, there is a lot of significant
penalties that could be levied against Britt Reid h including

(04:43):
one to seven years in prison, And a lot of
people are starting to ask the question where exactly was
Britt read uh drinking because according to the court documents,
Reid said he had left work and was entering southbound
I four thirty five from Maraytown Road. That's just a

(05:04):
few steps from the chief's offices and training complex. So
Reid could have gone somewhere else. But there aren't really
any bars, restaurants or residences according to Dan Wetzel, between
the facility and the on ramp, and it would be
interesting what where and if he was actually drinking and

(05:26):
getting drunk um And this is this is a big deal. Obviously,
this is me putting my lawyer hat on. The chiefs
could potentially be culpable in a civil lawsuit for massive
amounts of damages to this girl and her family if
one of their employees was drinking at work and he

(05:48):
then left drunk and UH and then had a accident,
particularly if the chiefs either knew or should have known
that drinking was happening and taking place at their facility
as they were preparing to get ready for the Super Bowl.
So again, under the NFL's personal conduct policy, this is

(06:11):
something that could certainly be investigated and potentially create uh
massive issues for the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as
the criminal issues that britt Reid himself is already dealing with.
And we know that Andy Reid has had a has
had a tremendously successful coaching career, but off the field,

(06:31):
he's had challenges, UH involving the behavior of his sons.
And this Britt read tragedy. I think it's fair to say,
is just the latest off the field related tragedy that
Andy Reid is going to have to deal with. So
I think this is a big story. I think it
could become a bigger story going forward. Obviously, the victim

(06:52):
here this five year old girl. I mean, that is
a devastating result for her to be in a situation
where again, months later, she is still not able to
to to Again, I'm reading directly from Dan Wetzel's peace.
She can't walk or talk and she has fed via
a tube. This is a five year old girl that

(07:14):
was seated in the backseat of her mom's Chevy Traverse
when when the britt Read slammed into the back of
their car. So I do think this is a story
worth paying attention to. It's unfortunate that the NFL has
got a lot of different legal issues all of a
sudden that have in many ways overshadowed some of the

(07:36):
excitement of the draft. I would say, as exciting as
the NFL Draft is coming up in a couple of weeks,
the biggest story in the NFL right now remains DeShawn Watson,
and now this britt Read incident could involve the Kansas
City chiefs as well. And while I'm talking about the
britt Read case, I should mention uh that over the

(07:57):
weekend and Friday afternoon that Deshaun Watson continued his legal
representative representatives, particularly Rusty Rusty Harden, to try to defend him.
But it's just not really registering with most people, because
Rusty Harden came out and said, well, the reason why

(08:18):
Deshaun Watson was having to book so many massage appointments
was because of the challenges of COVID, And that doesn't
even make any sense at all, because if you were
worried about COVID and you were Deshaun Watson, wouldn't you
be far less likely to be booking strangers on Instagram

(08:40):
to give you massages Because everybody's trying to avoid bringing
COVID into the facility. And so most people in the
NFL didn't expand their social circles during the COVID year.
They contracted it in a big way. Yet Deshaun Watson
during COVID is still setting up all these different appointments

(09:02):
with all of these total strangers. So again this is
me wearing my my lawyer hat here. The britt Read
story is an incredible cloud for the NFL, as is
the Deshaun Watson story. Um and in terms of player storylines,
I think, unfortunately, the Deshaun Watson storyline and what's going

(09:22):
to happen with him going forward is a bigger story
even than the NFL Draft, which we are I believe,
am I doing the math right here like sixteen or
seventeen days away from officially being able to to break
down and uh, and we've been obviously talking a lot
about the NFL draft. Should mention this to you as
well as we start off the second hour, Mac Jones

(09:45):
has now moved out according to fan Duel to a
minus three thirty three favorite to be the draft pick
of the San Francisco forty Niners. So if you're playing
along at home, Trevor Lawrence number one over all to
the Jags, Luke uh sorry, Zack Wilson number two overall
to the Jets. Luke Wilson obviously uh, brother of Owen Wilson,

(10:08):
pretty talented actor. Mac Jones going third overall to the
forty Niners. That is where we are kind of working
through three quarterbacks to start in the Atlanta Falcons. Maybe
the pivot point, maybe the fulcrum up on which this
draft turns, because are they gonna stick with Kyle Pitts
and try to go get another weapon for Matt Ryan

(10:29):
or are they going to make a move there? Uh?
Those are that is I think the biggest question right
now in the NFL. When we come back, we are
scheduled to be joined by John McClaine of the Houston Chronicle,
will break down the NFL Draft with him, We'll talk
about the situation with Deshaun Watson, and we'll ask a
question that we talked about a little bit in the
first hour of the program. Is Julian Edelman a Hall

(10:52):
of Famer or not? Uh? And how would we assess
his Hall of Fame credentials if we elected to do so.
All of that still coming in your direction. I appreciate
all of you for hanging out with us. This is
OutKick on Fox Sports Radio. This is Outkicked the coverage
with Clay Travis. We are joined now by John McClain.

(11:16):
He's been at the Houston Chronicle for forty five years,
and I bet he never foresaw, even in his wildest dreams,
certainly prior to Scott Drew being hired, that the Baylor
men's basketball program would become national champions John, I believe
you're in the Baylor Sports Hall of Fame. They're probably
gonna have some Baylor Bears on that basketball team that
eventually joined you, if they're not already in that Hall

(11:37):
of fame. What did it mean for Baylor to win
a national championship in basketball? How much enjoyment did you
get out of it? Gay as you can imagine, I
was spent last week on Cloud nine as good every
Baylor alarm and I never thought Baylor would ever return
to prominence after the scandal they had in which Carlton
Dodgson player killed another one, Brian Denny, and went to prison.

(12:01):
And I thought they were going to fold the program.
And then they hired this kid that looked like he's
about fifteen years old named Scott Drew. I knew about
his dad, Homer didn't know anything about him. I thought
he'd be there, could three years, get fired. He lasted
eighteen years. And you talk about good timing. Baylor is
gonna build a new arena and they have the plans

(12:23):
and they're just deciding where. And they raised a lot
of money, but they need some more money. And when
you win a national championship, those alarms are just gonna
write checks. And I've been proposed on my two weekly
shows in Wakeco that they build a statue to two statues,
one to Scott Drew for his national championship and another
one to the winner's coach. Kim Monkey has won three

(12:46):
national championship, So the timing was great for recruiting, and
the timing was great for a new building, I imagine
for people out there who don't know how low the
Baylor Means basketball program got. We talked about this a
lot on the show last week. We're talking about as
bad of a scandal as can possibly exist when Scott
Drew took over that program. But even before then, John,

(13:09):
I think almost in your entire lifetime. Prior to Scott Drew,
the program had been to the n c Double A
Tournament maybe once in uh So, what he has accomplished
is not just the incredible and impressive relative to any
championship that that gets one in college basketball, but one
of the most impressive rebuilding jobs we've ever seen leading
to a national championship. When I was eight years old

(13:31):
and I was a Cub scout, I went to my
first Baylor football and basketball game, and I was sold
on Baylor as a big fan. And later we moved
one block from the Art Texas College sam where the
men played, and I just walked to James. So I
went to games when I was growing up a lot,
and they never won the Southwest Conference. Of this they
could do was finished seconds, so they never got a

(13:53):
chance back then to go to the tournament. And they're
but greatest player in school history, Vinnie Johnson and went
off of me that microL waves. The Motor Motor City
bad Boys went back to back NBA titles and then
they finally started getting a few NBA players and it
was fun to watch them. But then that program under
Dave Bliss. I remember when he beat Kansas for the

(14:16):
first time in the students stormed the court. I was
watching on TV and thought, man, it will never get
much better than this. And when the when the program
went straight down the toilet and bless of course, was
was just ridiculed across the country. He was fired. I
noticed before that game he'd been coaching high schools in

(14:38):
Las Vegas and had retired here San Antonio to be
close to his grandkids. But you know, you don't see
how many times you see one player murder another one
and go to prison. You just don was god. Drew
came in. They couldn't play non conference games, and they
had severe scholarship limitedations, and Drew put out a call

(14:59):
for Walker, and he said, we're not just looking for
walk ons, Philip the end of the bench. If you
come here as a walk on and you're good, you
got a chance to play at a major college program.
And I think the first year you won four games.
And if you throw away the first three years of
Drew his career when he had severe restrictions, he's averaged
twenty something victories a year since. And it wasn't till

(15:20):
last year Clay when they won twenty two in a row,
and they spent like twelve weeks at number one, and
so all Baylor fans good tired up. Baylor's going to
the Final four for the first time in his nineteen
fifty when you won one game, you were automatically in
the last four, and it wasn't called the final four.
They played their championship game in forty eight against Dad

(15:41):
offer Ups Kentucky team and got beat But last year
people thought they had a good chance, and then of
course they didn't have the tournament because of COVID nineteen.
They thought the guards were gonna leave and go to
the NBA. They all tested to check sea where they
were going to be drafted, and they were told second
round and they wouldn't be wrapped. So the three of them,
Jared Butler, uh Na Beyond Mitchell and Mayzie Ot decided

(16:06):
to come back and they worked out great because they
won a national championship, and Butler and Mitchell could return again,
they won't because both are gonna be first round pigs
and Mitchell's being projected as a lottery pick. So everybody
wishes them the very best because even though a lot
of players before them helped turn around the program, you know,

(16:26):
which was own Devin's door, helped him climb out of
the grain, so to speak, it was these guys that
actually will run a championship and then may be the
last one they win forever, and they will they will
never have to drive by a dinner in Waco. There's
no doubt. We're talking too. Proud alum of the Baylor
men's basketball uh success here, but a proud alum of

(16:47):
Baylor University. John McClain. He has been covering the NFL
for forty five years with the Houston Chronicle. So I
want to go into the draft, John. And one of
the things that's interesting about sports gambling being legalized is
you can start to see the money being wagered and
get a pretty good sense of where guys are going.

(17:07):
And so, right now, Trevor Lawrence to the Jags basically
a foregone conclusion. But it also seems like Zack Wilson
to the Jets and now Mac Jones to the forty
Niners has become a big favorite to to be their
pick with number three overall selection. Would that surprise you
if Mac Jones ends up the forty quarterback? I imagine you're,

(17:29):
like most people, pretty sold on Trevor Lawrence to the
Jags and Zack Wilson to the Jets. Absolutely, Clay, as
far as three I think about this, Kyle Sandy is
not stupid. How why is he gonna tell his buddy
Chris Sam's who he's gonna draft, Because Chris SAMs is
the first one that started predicting Jones and then um

(17:50):
and then people say, well, he didn't go to Wiles
States Pro Day, he went to Alabama's Pro Day. Well,
you can go to the second Olives Day Pro Day
with Sustin Tales, or you can watch all the video.
You don't need to be there. So I don't think
they're going to give it away because obviously they have
more than one choice. What I'd be curious did they

(18:11):
try to trade up a spot with the Jets Jetsen
is loaded for the next two years. Would they be
interested in moving up for Zach Wilson? Are they really
satisfied with one of the other guys that they know
they can get. And I think it's very intriguing. Whatever
we pick in our mock draft, all it takes is
Kyle Shanahan to surprises and there goes most of the

(18:33):
top part of the first round screws up there everything.
What if he took Kyle Pitts. Pits is a usually
behind Trevor lawrencey is the second highest rated players just
to matter who's going to take him. But five quarterbacks
should go in the top ten, and I'm wondering claimed
if one of these others, like Kellen Mahnt of Texas
A and m Kyle Trasca Florida, one of them slips

(18:54):
into the bottom of the first round for a team
that say trades backed in like Baltimore did with Lamar Jackson,
or somebody down there that has an onger quarterback, or
in Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh needs a quarterback, would they trade back
into the first round to get one. But I'm not
so sure that it's just going to meet five going
in the first round because so many teams are still desperate.

(19:17):
You mentioned Kyle Pitts last week on the show. I
started pulling people, Hey, anything can happen with first round picks. Uh,
look at what happened with Isaiah Wilson, Tennessee Titans first
round pick last year, one of the biggest busts so
far in NFL history. If I had to pick one
player that I'm convinced will be really good for the
next six to eight years, I think it would be

(19:39):
Kyle Pitts. Doesn't mean he couldn't get hurt, doesn't mean
you know, it's an inexact science, as you will here
said a gob of times between now and a couple
of weeks from now when the draft actually takes place.
But it's Kyle Pitts to you, the biggest can't miss guy.
Given that quarterback swinging miss with him all the time.
Does Kyle Pitts speed, strength, catchability, catch radius, the production

(20:02):
that we saw from him in the SEC. Is he
a guy that's going to step in and maybe be
the most reliable of anybody taken in the top of
the draft. He is certainly not a tight end. He's
not a blocker. But like you just mentioned, all those
things he can do. He can line up outside, he
can line up in the slot, he could line up
on the line of scrimmage. He can grow in motion.

(20:24):
He could because of that size advantage in his hands
and the toughness and the and the strength of his hands,
he can go up. He's going to be a monster
for defensive backs. I feel sorry every year for defensive backs.
Most of them still aren't six foot and yet they
don't get taller. But the receivers just keep getting taller
and taller, And I don't know why. One time years ago,

(20:46):
Build parself told me, because all of the corners of
playing point guard in the NBA, it's easier to go
in the NBA and play point guard when you're six
foot than it is UH to play UH to play
corner against these receivers. That just keep getting larger, and
Pitt's man, he's just loaded with ability. He did it

(21:07):
in the best conference, and now he goes to a
team with a good quarterback who knows how to utilize him,
like say the Patriots did with a lot of Moron
cows kick because they lined him up all over the field.
He you know, he could play ten years, he could
play more. We're talking to John McLean. Encourage you to
go follow him at McLean Underscore on Underscore NFL. Go

(21:29):
read him at the Houston Chronicle that that if we're
correct that quarterbacks are going one, two and three, and
right now the oddsmakers would tell us it's Trevor Lawrence,
Zack Wilson, Mac Jones one to three. The Falcons are
sitting at four. You know Arthur Smith a little bit.
Do you believe that he is a believer in uh
Matt Ryan or do you think he would like to

(21:50):
get a younger quarterback? In other words, we were just
talking about Kyle Pitts. Is he looking for a weapon
to pair with with Matt Ryan and certainly Julio Jones
and Calvin Lee in terms of what they already have
on the offensive side, or do you think he wants
a fresh start. What's his anticipation in your mind as
he looks at that Falcons roster Clay. They got receivers

(22:12):
and I don't care how good pitts, Jamaar Chase says,
James Mondale and Davante Smith, those guys are great prospects
that they got receivers. Unless they were thinking, Okay, next year,
we're gonna cut ties with Julio Jones because he's too expensive.
They redid Matt Ryan's contract. He's thirty six. Here is

(22:32):
all he can still play. One thing that Pontineau and
Smith and Rich McKay and Arthur Blank have to be thinking.
We're not thinking up here anymore. You know this is
an aberration and we're not thinking number four. We're gonna
be a whole lot better. So this is a time
where they're going to have a chance to take ay
Ali writing quarterback. And he could sit a here too.

(22:53):
What if it's Tray Lance. Trey Lance played one game
last year for North Dakota State and the last time
he laid regularly was two years ago. So everybody thinks
he's gonna need the most time to develop. If they
like him, take him. You know, take the quarterback because
you can get everything else, you've got to have the
position solidified. But remember Arthur Smith coach tight ends for

(23:17):
a long time with the Titan so he loves tight ends.
And you know Smith would a lot to get his
hands on cow pits. You know, he's he's coached a
lot of different ways with the Titans as he came
up from basically an entry level position over his ten
year career. And yes, he ended up as a coordinator
and he coached he could coach to one of the

(23:38):
most productive offenses in the league, the most balanced offense.
But man, I'll guarantee if he could get his hands
on pits, he'd like to do it, so I fun know.
Then he comes from New Orleans, so he's he's he's
got a certain way of doing it where you don't
necessarily add the best player. But he's used to picking
at the bottom and he's got to think, Okay, we're

(23:59):
not gonna to care again. So I have had in
my last two moth drafts then taking a quarterback. At
some point, I'm gonna have him take bits. But my
last one, in the middle of the day before the draft,
my official one I think I'm going to go back
to a quarterback unless someone can convince me differently. That
would make it the first time in history we've a quarterbacks.

(24:19):
But one to three four we're talking to John mcclan
Houston Chronicle. Okay, obviously, you have spent an inordinate amount
of time covering a story that I anticipate you never
thought you would be covering, and that is Deshaun Watson
and what's going to happen there. So I saw the
story I believe it came out Monday about the Houston
Texans continuing to distance themselves more and more. I guess

(24:41):
they have sort of an introductory video of some sort
that they play. You. You probably can understand that better
or know exactly what that is. And they're not really
featuring him as the face of the franchise anymore. The
Texans don't have a pick in the first or the
second round. From a purely a ball perspective, what is

(25:01):
going on? What do you think the Texans are looking
towards as they start to plan for some of these
mini camps and certainly for the draft in a couple
of weeks. Craig before Watson had those pointing two lawsuits
filed against him and his sponsors, um ditched him and
night Case suspended him. Um, So it doesn't surprise me

(25:22):
what the Texans did because he canna imagine what a
huge story this is in Houston. And I thought before
the loss they were going to get six teams to
bid for him, and so that the general managine neccessario
as we got care right up to the draft, would
wait on the best deal. And if you think about

(25:42):
six teams bidding for a player, and some of them
have and a couple of them having multiple number ones
the next two years, they were open to get three ones,
two twos and a defensive start, and they might ask
for more. It never hurts to ask, right And so
now I don't know anybody that thinks they're going to
be able to trade once and before the draft, and

(26:03):
he has said he will not come back here and
will not playing for his team. So I don't expect
to see any time in all season program, whether it's
virtual or they actually get on the field or no
t as. And then when drink MP's here, don't expect
to see him. And so he could end up suspended,
He could end up on the NFL commissioners exemple us,
which would allow him to get paid and not play

(26:25):
until everything was sorted out. But right now they've gone
from hoping to trade him to jump start their rebuild
to everything's on the hold. Every team I've talked to,
somebody from that team at or who covers that team
has told me everybody has backed away waiting to see Now.
I believe eventually this will be behind him. You don't

(26:47):
know how long that'll be. But when it is, somebody's
going to get a great quarterback, but one whose reputation
has been tarnished forever. So that presumes I guess that
to Rod Taylor is going to be a quarterback most likely.
I think that's fair to say. On the field, starting
in September, what exactly do the Texans do? Right? I

(27:07):
know it's hard to tank in football, but given the
fact that this is a four and twelve team last
year that lost a lot of close games down the stretch,
is it the smartest thing? And also given the fact
they don't have a first in a second round pick,
is it on some level uh likely in your mind
that this is a bad Houston Texans team and they
would theoretically be back in the top half of the

(27:30):
first round next year with their pick. I think they
get their pick back unless unless you don't have anything
you can correct me if I'm wrong, and then you're
going and finding a young quarterback potentially there. It's been
three out of four years without a number one pick.
They finally will get another one in two thousand and
twenty two when they have their picks in the first
and second round. And Rod Taylor his last two times

(27:53):
he was taken it to be the starter going into
the two thousand eighteen season with Cleanland, he got hurt
and they had to play Baker Mayfield before he was ready.
The rest is Brown's history. Last year with the Chargers,
Anthony Lynn may He is the starter. The Justin Herbert
has not playing any got hurt and with getting an
injection after the first game, couldn't play. Herbert got forced

(28:17):
into the lineup, and the rest his Charger's history. So
even though Taylor had four consecutive years of starting at Buffalo,
including two thousand seventeen with Texas coach David Culley as
his quarterback coach, you know it's a good chance that
could get hurt again. So Ryan Finley from Cincinnati who
started three games in two years the backup. So I

(28:37):
think they will get another quarterback. And I'm glad you
brought this up because Sunday I wrote a column that's
on our sports website, Texas sports Nation dot com about
when they take the quarterback in the third round they
have the U sixty seventh overall pick, quarterback like Kellen
monta Texas and m Or Convert from Florida. If those
guys were rated a second round picks by Nick to

(29:00):
Serio and he didn't have to reach to get one,
and I think, yes, they could take one of those
quarterbacks if they were there. We're talking to John McClean. Uh.
John Julian Edelman released a video on Monday announcing his retirement,
saying basically he didn't have anything left in his body.
Uh in order to be able to still play. Is

(29:21):
Julian Edelman in your mind a Hall of Fame wide receiver.
When I get asked questions about players at the end
of their career, Clay, I've gotta if they don't, if
it's not automatic, I gotta think about it. But if
I was going to put a slot receiver in all
of Fame, I would put wes Welker in before Julian Edelman.
Edelman made some great plays in Big Games, played great

(29:42):
with Brady. Wes Welker played great with Brady. I'm not
saying he's not. I would think about it a lot.
Five years from now, I'm still on the committee because
he was a really good player at times great. But
to me, you've got to be consistently great to be
in all of fame. Have you been back to the
movie theater yet? And I went back to see to

(30:04):
the movie theater for the first time Sunday, and I
have a movie to recommend to all your listeners. Nobody
with Bob Odenkirk. It was great. It kind of reminded
me of the John Wick movies, which I love. Bob
oden Kirk who's basically a salesman and all of a
sudden that mob comes after him, and man they regretted

(30:25):
when they do. My wife and I both thought it
was great. So Nobody Nobody saw Goodman, By the way,
is how who Bob oden Kirk is most known for
both in the Breaking Bad series and also uh in
the series where he plays that same character, which I
haven't watched, but I hear is absolutely phenomenal. Uh, and

(30:45):
he is an incredibly talented writer. What did it feel
like to be back in a movie theater? It's only
like five people in there. We want Sunday afternoon, and
it felt good to go back. We wore a masked
all time and and uh, this theater we go to
on the open a week before. And then one of
the guys that runs it's a friend of mine and
he said it's slow, mature, and and it was fun

(31:08):
to be back seeing things on the big screen, especially
and action really like this with a lot of serious
serious accident fighting killing car ranks. And it was very
well written, very well acted. The better Call Saul, Bob
Kirk Storing and nobody better call Saul is the show

(31:29):
that's name escaped me right there. I took my kids
to go see Wonder Woman on the Imax a while back,
and uh, and they absolutely loved it too. So it's
good to be back in theaters. John McClain, I appreciate
you starting off your morning with us. We'll talk to
you again, I hope sometime soon. Appreciate my man, Clay
is my pleasure. Thank you very much. As alway, this
is outkicked the coverage with Clay's traffics. Hey it's me

Parkner with Rob Parker on the I Heart Radio app
or wherever you get your podcast. I put up a
poll question asking is Julian Edelman a Hall of Famer?
I think it is a fascinating question, and we may
even unpack it a little bit more to start the
to start the third hour of the program. Um. But

(32:40):
when you look at it, to me, the argument essentially
comes down to how much do you quantify postseason versus
regular season? Okay, so in the regular season, Julian Edelman
has good, not great numbers, there's no way that he
would end up in the Hall of Fame. In the postseason, though,
Julian Edelman is second all time to Jerry Rice in

(33:04):
both UH playoff receiving yards and in his overall number
of catches Julian Edelman with a hundred and eighteen postseason
catches and fourteen hundred and forty two receiving yards, as
well as the Super Bowl m v P AT fifty three,

(33:26):
Super Bowl fifty three. That is so, I asked people
out there do they think that he is a Hall
of Famer? And I think it's an interesting question, um
when you think about it in general. Uh, it is
a intriguing question because it asks essentially what is the

(33:47):
value of a career. He's the Hall of very good,
I think almost a hundred percent for sure. But is
he or is he not a Hall of Famer? It's
pretty close. Like I always say that the best possible
poll question is one that I try to think of
where it ends up being close to fifty fifty. And

(34:10):
there is a ton of reaction already rolling in on
Julian Edelman, and I think it boils down in many
ways to whether or not you quantify in any kind
of significant way the postseason different than the regular season. Also,
as a part of this, too, I think you have

(34:31):
to look at Tom Brady and wonder how much of
Julian Edelman's credit goes to Tom Brady, right because really
one of the most remarkable things about Brady's tenure and
dominance in the NFL is in terms of receivers. And
we talked about this a little bit with Chad with
throw in the first hour of the program, But in

(34:51):
terms of receivers, Randy Moss, unquestioned one of the greatest
receivers of all time. Tom Brady got to throw with
him for a couple of years, not at his absolute
p but close to it. Tom Brady got to throw
with Randy Moss. Randy Moss maybe the only wide receiver
that ever makes the Hall of Fame that Tom Brady
through to. That's kind of crazy. Right now, we'll see

(35:14):
with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, Brady's not gonna get
to throw with them for years and years like he
did the receivers that he had in New England. I
would say that right now Mike Evans is likely to
I'm probably jinxing him now, but Mike Evans likely to
be an NFL Hall of Famer. Uh. We'll see what
happens with Chris Godwin. We know that Rob Gronkowski is
going to be in the Hall of Fame. So in

(35:35):
terms of skill position players that Tom Brady played with
during his career in New England, I think there's only
two Hall of famers. I think that that those Hall
of Famers, Randy Moss and uh certainly Rob Gronkowski, those
are the only ones I would say that Edelman has
slotted in there probably at the next most likely guy

(35:57):
that you would point to. Wes Welker obviously posted some
big numbers as well with Tom Brady over the years.
But I wonder how much of the Julian Edelman talk
has to do with the postseason. The other thing, and
this is seismically difference for the NFL compared to everywhere else.
How about the fact that Julian Edelman got popped for

(36:19):
performance enhancing drugs and nobody cares if it happens in
baseball and he had retired, It's the first paragraph of
his overall resume, like an a Rod, it happens with
Julian Edelman, and almost nobody even cares. In fact, a
lot of you probably hearing me mention that right now,
are like, oh, yeah, you forgot that happened Julian Edelman.

(36:41):
If I'm not mistaken, Julian Edelman won the m v
P in the Super Bowl in the year that he
was suspended for performance enhancing drugs. So not only was
the story of his suspension not that big in the
grand scheme of things, but he also of me crazily

(37:01):
got the m v P the same year that he
had his issues with performance enhancing drugs. Like, it's just
that you're talking about seismic. I'm not sure there's anything
bigger in the world of sports morality than the difference
between the way we react when a Major League baseball
player test positive for steroids and or performance enhancing drugs
and the way we react when a football player does

(37:23):
all that we're breaking down schedule to be joined by
the way in the third hour of the program, Petro's
Papadakis will continue to chase all these stories and more.
