Speaker 1 (00:01):
It is the best of two pros and a couple
of Joe with LaVar Arrington rating win and Jonas Knots
on Box four Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
So probably not the ideal wake up for many people
on the West Coast listening on the Blowtorch Am five
to seven e LA Sports their beloved Lakers fall last
night to launched. Yeah, it was unfortunate. I mean just
seeing the way they kind of fell apart and melted
down late in that game. Not trying to light anybody
up here or try and get anybody pissy as they
(00:34):
head into their Friday. If you miss these comments, we
played them earlier. This was Denver Nuggets head coach Mike
Malone talking with the media afterwards. And I'm sure this
will make the rounds and get him some boo birds
at the crypto dot org, slash net, slash whatever they're
calling it now arena when this series continues this weekend
in LA.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Let's be honest, I was a national narrative was, Hey,
the Lakers are fine, They're down one, oh, but they
figure something out. No one talked about Nicola just had
a historic performance. He's got thirteen Chipple doubles now third
all time. What he's doing is just incredible. But the
narrative wasn't about the Nuggets. The narrative wasn't about Nicola.
The narrative is about the Lakers and their adjustments. So
(01:16):
you know, you put that in your pipe, you smoke it,
and you come back and you know what we're gonna
go up to.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Oh yeah, put that in your pipe and smoke it,
and went up to oh yep, So what they did,
damn right they did.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
And Jokich continues to be the catalyst and continues to
be ned, I say, proving that he actually is the
best player in the National Basketball Association.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
I mean, look, the only way of changing the narrative
is literally beating the Lakers. But if they were to
sweep them or beat them in five, it'd be a
pretty big statement by the Denver Nuggets. And when you're
going up against the franchise, that's a story that the
Lakers are.
Speaker 6 (02:00):
That's what you're up against.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
You know, the media wants this to be an LA
Lakers NBA Finals versus whoever comes out of the East.
That's what the TV networks want. I mean, let's be
real about it. They don't want the Denver Nuggets to
be playing in the NBA Finals. They want Lebron, they
want a d They want those figures who are in
LA to be you know, added to that storied tradition
(02:24):
and the history of the LA Lakers. I mean, heck,
we even got some some people at Fox Sports Radio
who are clamoring for that clamoring because they have to
do maybe some local afternoon radio later on today on
the Blowtorch.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
I'm just talking about Yoah, that's where we're at right now.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
I mean, so the Denver Nuggets have to take it,
and they have to continue to change the narrative themselves
with their play and production. And you know, you could
say the Lakers gave that game away. I mean, I
think it's at points in times. If you're gonna say
it was the adjustments in the fourth quarter by the
Lakers in Game one, even though they didn't win, go
(03:08):
ahead and make the same case for the Nuggets, then
was it not the second half adjustments that they were making, yes,
in the third and fourth quarter that got them to
win again?
Speaker 6 (03:17):
I mean, that's more than narrative.
Speaker 5 (03:18):
The interesting thing is, though, you know, people kept trying
to make it about the Lakers after a loss, when
really it should continue to be about the Denver Nuggets
Nikola Jokicic being the best player in the NBA right now,
but no one wants to acknowledge that for some reason.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Well, and it's also if you go to the East,
like the odds that came out before that series, Boston
Miami where and still I mean the odds are crazy.
Boston's like over a two to one favorite to win
the series down one nothing, and it's almost like it
has been grooved because they want Lakers Celtics, like that's
(03:51):
the ratings bonanza everybody wants. And yet if you just
look at how these teams have played, if you were
just stacking it, it feels to me like Denver and
Miami have clearly pulled in front of LA and Boston's
a distant fourth as far as who's been most consistent
in the playoffs. But the whole conversation, like I was
talking to a buddy of mine who's a diehard Heat fan,
(04:12):
I mean, like grew up Miami Heat fan, and he said, man,
if this happens, what an incredible feat by the Miami
Heat to be able to pull this off. I was like, dude,
stop reading whatever bogus gambling lines are out there. The
lines are wrong. That like, if you watched Miami this
postseason and watch Boston after they just played a seven
game series last year, there's no way you can look
(04:35):
at this and see, well, you know, Boston just fell
apart in one quarter. Miami won Game one, just like
Denver one Game one in game two, and as it
stands right now, those are the two best teams remaining
in the playoffs. It's what it is. But it's being
forced down everybody's throats because I think they all are
clamoring for Boston LA to get the biggest number.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Yeah, that's one thing. But look, the books aren't wrong.
That's just how the money's coming in. You know, if
you're if you're the gambling books, right, I mean, you're
just trying to take even money on each side. Otherwise
you leave yourself too much exposure in the event that
things don't go your way. And so they're not wrong.
That's just how the money's coming in. People still believe
that the Boston Celtics are gonna be one of the
(05:15):
best teams like they were during the course of the
season in the East. The odd thing is, though, is
you didn't see as much of that. I think, I mean,
what's the series now in the West. I mean, you'd
have to think at some point Denver's gonna be favored.
But I feel like coming into it was a little
more even odds as compared to the Eastern Conference finals.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Efforting here, efforting here.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
On the team, I disagree with you on that, Jonas.
I think that they're I think they're playing inspired basketball.
I think Jimmy Butler is proving that he should be
in the conversation with elite basketball players.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
You're saying Miami's a better team than Boston right now.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
No, I'm saying Boston is the better team.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Not right now. They're not.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Well, I'm mean they're down. They lost. But it's funny
because you will see the game tonight and you'll probably
have to change your opinion, Like it's a strong possibility.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
It's a new audience, so every day, so I can
do that.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
Well, I'm just saying just because Miami won the first
game doesn't make them the better team, the best team, Like,
they're not the best team. They're just they're playing they
played better and they're playing the type of basketball that's
giving them a chance to do what they did before,
which was play their way and wheel themselves into the
(06:34):
championship series.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
So both those series are over. It's going to be
Denver Miami in the finals, and the NBA is going
to get a kick right square in the nuts, and
they're not going to get Boston, LA.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
It's going to be It's going to be Boston Denver.
If you ask me, it's going to be Boston Denver.
And and listen, Denver. If people are paying attention, this
is the first time they're they're actually healthy coming into
the playoffs and actually staying healthy.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
By the way, I think I have this correct. Didn't
Jimmy Butler have an altercation with Joki and his brothers?
Wasn't that the Denver Nut Butler? I think it was
Jimmy Butler. I think that was. It was either last
year or the year before league and we looked that up.
I almost positive it was Jimmy Butler versus the yok brothers.
Speaker 6 (07:20):
What was that altercation? Would that look like? Uh?
Speaker 2 (07:23):
They were just arguing back. Yeah, they were sitting in
the stands. I think they were shouting at Jimmy. That
was Jimmy Butler, right, Lee A most positive yeah, yes,
it was. Oh, so that's what we need. Screw Boston
in LA. We need the Jokiches versus Jimmy Butler and
Eu Donnis Haslin. I'm telling you, man, Donnas Ham and
Jimmy Butler versus any two of the still on the team. Yeah,
(07:46):
he's still.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
There, and he like fifty five.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
My goodness, he's uh, he's old.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
He's not that old, but he ain't far off.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
I'll go forty three. I'm gonna say forty three.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Forty three? What you saying, Brady, I'm said, Sam, he's
got to be about that, right, forty three? What is
he league?
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yeah? What do we got leave for you? Donnis Haslam
his age.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Let's vedge out so he can get it.
Speaker 6 (08:18):
Udo.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
He is forty two, Oh.
Speaker 6 (08:21):
Man, forty two. It's not bad.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
I mean I was eight years off. That's not far.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
By the way, he looks like he's.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
Closer to fifty and old than he is to younger.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Hey, let me ask you this, what would be more
believable that he's forty two or that he's been in
the league since nineteen forty two? What would you say?
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Well, I mean, if he was in the league since
nineteen forty two, he wouldn't be forty I understand, all right.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
He looks older than forty two. He does looks older.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
He's been He's had to have been in the league
for thirty years. That'll be more realistic.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Straight from UH, straight from elementary.
Speaker 6 (08:55):
Straight from elementary school.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
If he's thirty six years old, he's had to have
been in the league for thirty when you.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Look at his career, like, if you can carve out
a niche with an organization that values you like you can,
you can really play foreverything.
Speaker 6 (09:11):
That's a lot of different professional sports.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
Like I remember seeing seeing an old adage about UH,
like a father who gave this old watch to his
son and he was saying to his son, he said,
here's what I want you to do. I want you
to go down down the street, go to the jewelry
store and ask them to a praise this. And he
came back and he's like, hey, Dad, they praised to
(09:34):
watch for a couple of grand He's say, oh, okay.
He goes, hey, I want you to take it to
a pawn shop, ask them to a praise it for you.
And they go, well, this thing looks old and beat up.
You know, we're only going to give you fifty bucks
for it. He says, Okay, he goes, Now, I want
you go to the museum. I want you to go
to them and ask them what they would have praised
this for goes then comes back five hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 6 (09:56):
It actually was an older relic. It was like a
time piece.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
And the whole more or the story is like, you've
got to invest your time the people who value you
and then find those people and has obviously found that
with the.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
That's just it's so rare.
Speaker 5 (10:13):
It's so rare, right that you could find like one
organization or a company to invest in you like.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
That, and they love it. Man, Like, I think this
is the last year. By the way, I think he's uh,
he's walking away after this year.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
So there's the transition to a wheelchair. And if he
continues on that.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Is so mean. That is your Eudonis has an update,
by the way, speaking of older players. Uh, before we
get to that, we should point out this year it's
a football Friday, the one football.
Speaker 6 (11:01):
Fasts.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
Yeah, all life Friday, Football Friday.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
This we'll do it though, Oh man, I'll put my
heart break up.
Speaker 5 (11:23):
We need this earlier in the show. That's the problems.
We need this an hour one not I know Berto
is excited for the.
Speaker 6 (11:33):
Region, Yeah, right right at the beginning of the show,
was excited. Get it upo Sereal.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
By the way, Lee just threw him up to all right, so, uh,
before we get to break, we do want to point
out that Matt Ryan, who is now a CBS analyst,
he is not shutting the door on a potential return
to the NFL.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
That's why we're yeah, I mean so well, did y'all
see how he posted it though?
Speaker 6 (12:04):
Yeah, like the whole post and.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
Everything came out in the announcement, and they like forgot
the tag the point that it's not a retirement because
if he was to announce his retirement, he.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
Missed out on the twelve million. Can't zewe him?
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Right? Like, how does that work?
Speaker 5 (12:17):
By the way, I mean, I would imagine most teams
having some sort of offset or retirement language.
Speaker 6 (12:25):
And in this case, I mean.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
That's why, like Pete Prisco always got mad. He's like, well,
you you never filed your papers. I go, I'll be
honest with you. I bet there's about ninety percent of
football players never actually file retirement papers, because why would you,
especially in the event that you had a bonus like
that and you would have to give back those monies
if you retired. So it's just it doesn't make sense
(12:49):
to do it, and in this case, it definitely doesn't
because if he decided he's retired, yeah, he'd have to
pay him back twelve million dollars so he can essentially
work and chill with CBS.
Speaker 6 (12:59):
Why waiting for that opportunity if one ever.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Comes bar you're to file your retirement papers.
Speaker 6 (13:04):
No, yeah, there's no point like that. That's the that's
the oddest thing. Like people to Tom Britty, do you
file his retirement Why would he? Why it wants to
come back a year from now.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
I have a question though, if you if you qualify
for the NFL retirement pension, you don't have to say
that you're retired.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
Once you're fully vested, you're fully vested.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
I heard j Cutler in an interview say one time,
he's a I don't even know if there actually are
retirement papers.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
It's it's the stupidest thing people talk about, Like you
need to go through and sign some paper that you
print off from your your printer and you have to
like putting that envelope and mail it in, by the way,
because think about your retirement benefits.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
The average lifespan in the NFL is three years. You
get vested.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
Now by five you're I mean, which they've changed the
ruling on it where more guys now are getting vested
than they were before.
Speaker 6 (13:55):
But once you're vested, you're vested. I mean all those
things kick in later on.
Speaker 5 (13:59):
I mean some of that stuff you can't even touch
until at least what forty forty five something like that.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
Uh, you could pull it out early and one lump
sum or I think you have to wait until you're
fifty three, I believe is the I.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Think it depends on which one though there's a couple
of newdies, different things, but.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
Fifty three is the one where you If you wait
till fifty three and you're fully vested, you're pretty good.
Like you're you're your your six figure six figure tat so.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
But to answer the question, you like, you don't need
retirement papers to show them that you know, once you're
once you're inactive for a period of time, they consider
you're retired.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Yeah, yeah, damn, that is very true.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Yeah, isn't you guys here from Berto. I want to
make sure everybody's on the.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
Side of her here, all right.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
It is two Pros and a Cup of Joe here
on Fox Sports.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
As long as you can tax purposes, Yeah, definitely, you
believe me, Yeah, definitely yea, which is kind of a
Noxi moron in the context in which it's being used.
But we'll just leave that there. I guess.
Speaker 6 (15:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
They usually would say you definitely should get out of
there early, you know what I mean, for tax purposes.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
I hear you.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
But in this case, you want to leave it in. Yeah,
as long as you can for tax purposes.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Again, point the man.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
I'm just here to help.
Speaker 7 (15:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
So there was an interesting move made in the NFL
yesterday and it makes you wonder what the hell is
going on with one team, and it's the Pits Steelers.
Their general manager Omar Kahn, was on the Pat mcabee
show starring AJ Hawk, and he reported that a Mitch
Trubisky extension should be done shortly. It'll be a two
(16:12):
year deal. And this coming on the heels of them
announcing that Mason Rudolph would also be back and Kenny
Pickett is still the starter there. But it's interesting that
they wanted to make sure that the backups were in
place with Kenny Pickett coming back for year two of
his role as starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, And
(16:34):
it just makes me wonder, is there some concern about
Kenny Pickett considering and this doesn't get talked about a lot.
He also, much like Tua, dealt with multiple concussions last year,
is there some concern by the Pittsburgh Steelers that he
will be ready to participate in a full season next
year for Pittsburgh.
Speaker 6 (16:53):
I was gonna ask you guys, did he have two?
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (16:58):
I remember reading about that, and my reaction was what
you just said, was why was so much of it
made about Tuah but not as much discussed about Kenny Pickett.
Do you think it was just more Tua's injury history
coming into the league or is it the matter in
which we we saw those concussions and we kind of
were more led to say, oh, these are you know,
(17:20):
they looked more vicious in nature, or maybe just because
of the timing in which they happened.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
I think to his symptoms looked worse, which is like.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
The immediate, the immediate of it, like them falling back
down fingers.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Yeah, like locked up. No, they were not like gang signs.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
In moments like that, you reformed to your greatest, greatest
form of training.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Yeah. Yeah. But it is interesting because the Kenny Pickett
stuff just sort of kind of flew under the radar.
Nobody really talked about that. I think one of them
he's self reported as well too, and was like, yeah,
you know, I don't feel all that good, and then
they pulled him from the game. But yeah, he suffered
as many concussions last year that we know of as
Tua did. And yet here the Steelers are making moves
(18:14):
like I thought that either Mason Rudolph or Mitch Trubisky
would be gone.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
This offset they Trent.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
They're keeping all of them, which is kind of weird.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
No, I mean, I'm three quarterbacks. I guess that's becoming
the norm. Is that the norm?
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Now?
Speaker 4 (18:32):
I mean three quarterbacks? You could use say that's three
you're one heavy, you know, if you keep three qbs.
But that's what they've done. That's what that's what they've done. Yeah,
that's what they've done. It used to be the norm.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
And then they changed the third quarterback designation in the
two thousand and eleven CBA or twenty ten, twenty eleven,
whichever year you want to throw it on. But they
used to make that where you could dress all three
and the third guy didn't count against it, but as
soon as you needed to put him into the game,
you would literally take a player who was on the
(19:07):
active roster, deactivate him, and then activate your you know,
your third string quarterback. And then all that stated was
that guy's now active to come into the game, and
the starter may no longer come back into the game.
That's the player who you would be deactivating this case
due to injury. Well, once they got rid of that rule,
(19:28):
teams stop keeping three on their active roster, in part
because they kind of thought to themselves, look, if we
go through two quarterbacks in the span of a week,
we got a problem going to a third string guy anyway.
Speaker 6 (19:41):
So we'll have an emergency third string quarterback. We'll get
through the game.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
That the likelihood of that happening is so low it's
not worth it for us to keep that veteran guy
who's going to make close to probably a million bucks
a year. We can get a million dollars in savings,
or let's just say we'll put them on practice. We'll
get you know, maybe a third of what that veteran
would be paid. So that's that's how they have dealt
(20:07):
with it for a period of time. Some organizations are different.
But it is interesting that you know, with Pickett being drafted,
they're coming into a second year. You keep Trubisky, you
keep Mason Rudolph, who also signed back a lot of stall.
Speaker 6 (20:19):
Building that quarterback row. And I don't know if that's just.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
A lack of confidence they have in Kenny Pickett or
it's it's maybe more they like the direction of where
things were going in the second half of last year,
the way he was playing, and they want to keep
as much the same as possible.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
I mean, the other team this reminds me of is
San fran because the Niners have three quarterbacks, and I
think everybody agrees, well, they've got three quarterbacks that are
there because there's some injury concerns and they want to
make sure they've got somebody that's going to be able
to play. And Sam Darnold's there, and you know, we've
talked about the discussion between the two and it feels
(20:56):
like the same thing in Pittsburgh, but it's not really
being discussed. And if you go back and watch Kenny
Pickett last year, he did show signs of improvement late
in the season, But I don't know that anybody looks
back at last year and says, oh, he completely lit
the league up, so.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Nobody ran away with it. Kenny Pickett played well down
the stretch, but he didn't run away with he's the guy,
like I mean, he's the guy, but I think he's
the guy because he's their draft pick and Trubisky didn't
play well enough where you know, Pickett was going to
have to wait. And we definitely, you know, have no
(21:33):
expectation for Mason Rudolph at this point. I mean, he's
had a couple opportunities and he didn't take them either.
So we talked about we talked about the whole Zach
Wilson thing and and and the one thing that resonated
when I was listening to Q talk about it is
you got to see what you got, you you got
to get reps to develop, and I think Pittsburgh really
(21:58):
wants to see Kenny Picket it be the guy for
multiple reasons. It's great for business if Kenny Pickett develops
into a franchise guy that can lead them the way
they need to be leaded. I mean, it's such a
traditional franchise. They have done it so well where they've
(22:19):
only had X amount of coaches, X amount of quarterbacks,
you know, and that's been that's been their thing. It's
a staple of what Pittsburgh represents. So I think there's
a lot riding on Kenny Pickett being that guy for
the Steelers. But he didn't, by any means run away
(22:39):
with it, like, yep, there's our starter, this is the future,
this is what we have to look forward to. Even
though I think he did give Steelers fans some some
positive moments to take away before the season was over.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
I mean, the numbers aren't great overall. I mean he
need seven touchdowns, nine picks, like he improved late in
the season. But yeah, there's just like you look at it,
but it's just it's interesting that it's sort of not
really been like I think more of the conversation has
been about Mike Tomlin and still keeping his never had
(23:16):
a losing record, street going and just sort of, you know,
little improvements they saw late in the season. But Pittsburgh's
in kind of an interesting spot because if you look
at that division and you just look at who they're
going to be dealing with in that division, I think
it's it's pretty obvious they've got the worst quarterback situation
in the AFC North. And how many teams around the
(23:37):
NFL who have the worst quarterback situation in the division
do you look at and go, oh, yeah, that's a
team that I'm I'm not concerned about, that's going to
be a team that'll be contending next year. Like it
feels like there's some bigger issues there that maybe it's
kind of been overlooks. The Lamar Jackson story, Joe Burrow's extension,
Deshaun Watson's fetish, and there's the Pittsburgh Steelers, It's true,
(23:59):
and there's the Pittsburgh Steelers who are kind of floating there,
sitting at the bottom. And I don't know how optimistic
Steeler fans are going to be heading in the next year.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
I've said it before, Man have nothing against the guy,
just havn't really enjoyed watching the film of Matt Cannada's offense.
I mean, I'm just I feel like if they move
on from Kenny Pickett, you know, Matt Canadan somehow then
has survived, and I think Pittsburgh stands could probably relate
(24:26):
to that. I mean, first off, Kenny was a rookie quarterback,
so he's going to go through some growing pains. But
it doesn't matter who you talk to. And I'm not
the only one who's been critical of it, as Ben Roblisberger.
You know, he's openly talked about it as well, and
he obviously has more equity built up with the Pittsburgh
Steeler fan base. So I'm just saying, if the Steelers
(24:48):
really want to take a good, hard look at while
their offense isn't clicking on all cylinders, I want to
look at the execution, the scheme and all that, and
how all that's being done with a guy calling the plays,
because that's been going on for a while now and
I don't really see it getting that much better.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Why is he still there?
Speaker 5 (25:04):
I mean, I think, you know, maybe LeVar could speak
to this better than I, but I think sometimes as
a coach, you become you know, loyal to your assistance,
maybe even loyal to a fault.
Speaker 6 (25:18):
It's it's it's hard to move on.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
From guys at times, and sometimes you know, the grass
isn't always greener with the next guy who comes in,
you know. I think any you know that the tough
thing about any you know, bright butting starts an offensive mine,
he's only going to be there for a short amount
of time if he's as adverts to do it, yeah,
because eventual he's just going to move on to become
head coach shortly. So I mean, is Matt Cannay getting
(25:40):
head coaching interviews?
Speaker 2 (25:42):
I don't recall.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
I don't recall hearing of him getting any type of
interview attention. I've only heard you talk about him, to
be honest, which which is interesting. You know I'm not
the only one actually, Yeah, actually I can say, yeah,
there's been a couple others. Well, I'm just talking about
guys I respect, I was thinking, but there are a
(26:06):
couple more that actually have brought them up. So yeah,
I wouldn't be able to speak better to it. But
I think that there's accuracy to what you're saying is
that this team could improve under different leadership at that
offensive coordinator role. That's you know, it just the offense
(26:27):
hasn't been up to snuff for a little bit, you
know what, the last two seasons at least. Yeah. So yeah,
I mean it's just it's one of those things. You know,
they they maybe they learned the hard way that Uh okay, yeah.
Speaker 6 (26:49):
I can keep it coming if you want.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
Oh no, there's there's after I stopped and thought about it.
After I stopped and thought about it, you know, you
know anyway, Yeah, I mean we'll see what happens. We'll
see maybe this is the year that his offense takes
takes whole, takes shape.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
So just so we have this clear, Brady Quinn, Ben Roethlisberger.
Did I see Terry Bradshaw as well too?
Speaker 6 (27:18):
Steve Smith's in there.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
I mean, look again, I'm not trying to be critical
of the person.
Speaker 6 (27:26):
I'm just saying what I see on film with that offense.
Speaker 5 (27:28):
It lacks creativity, It lacks a lot of things, and
that's not you know, it's been that way since he's
been a play caller. I think Steelers fans feel that
you watch other offenses, other systems. You know, you just
you see more creativity, see more guys running wide open.
It's not a lack of skill or personnel. They've got
(27:49):
plenty of talent and their offensive line they've invested into
and it's much improved. So there's there's just a number
of things that I think aren't really clicking for him,
and I think it has a lot to do with,
you know, who's calling the plays in that offense.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Well. I mean, the good news is because there's so
many quarterbacks that have been brought back. If it doesn't
work out with Kenny Pickett, Matt Canada can just spin
the chamber and go right to Trubisky or Mason Rudolph
after that, I mean, they'll be able to get through
a season. Just go from quarterback to quarterback. There's enough
options there now. I think Tanner Morgan's also the fourth
quarterback there as well too. I mean, just bring them
all in, like, let's bring it like all the great
(28:22):
old school Pittsburgh Steelers, Neil O'Donnell, Bubby Brister, like, you
name it. Let's just get them all in. Labar, come on,
let's run the gamut. Yeah, what's his?
Speaker 6 (28:32):
Was it?
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Mark Malone was he the other loone. Mike tom Zach.
Mike tom what a poll seein Ohio? Guy, good dude.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
I love Mike tom Zach. He was always like really
cool to me, Like when I was a fan fan
and used to go to La Trabe to to see
them the.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Rolling Rock after practice there.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
It is like, yeah, okay, I mean I was I
was looking at that age that I was hanging around
and watching the Steelers practice.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
But from the glass line tanks of old Latrobe we
present to.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Thee Yeah, but uh yeah, I mean it was that
he was. He was a cool dude. Man. I can
remember going to those those practices and seeing Greg Lloyd
and and seeing Kevin Green, like to see that, like
to think about it now as an adult, like, it's
kind of pretty interesting to think that I got to
(29:28):
see those guys like in practice.
Speaker 6 (29:31):
You know.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
It's like the Steelers had one of those teams that
had figures and you know guys that were just larger
than life man like Bill Cower. I mean, starting with
Bill Cower, it was just they guys were just larger
than life man. But Mike Tomzach was like Mike Tomzach
was the one who came up to me. That was
in high school. He came up to me during during
(29:55):
one of the practices like I know who you are,
you know what I mean? I was like, man, that
is pretty freaking cool.
Speaker 6 (30:01):
Man.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
Like he was like, yeah, man, I'll be coming to
your gays. And had I had known that like a
few Steelers because I played in my high school is
where a lot of the Steelers lived, and and so
like I had heard of, like you know, when when
Steelers would show up and come to the games, people
would say, you know such and such a looking around
(30:22):
and such and such, and they used to say, Tom
Zac used to come to a lot of our games.
So it's pretty cool, man, It's pretty cool. Getting acknowledged
by Tom's act was really like he had a lasting
impression on me as a younger dude, just because of
how he treated me.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
By the way, how about this Mike Tom Zach kind
of ties this whole show together all right, Ohio State
obviously in Columbus, not far from Dublin where Brady grew up.
Pittsburgh Steeler, you know, Levar's beloved team when he was
a child, and and he was born in Illinois just
like me. So like I just see how that hole. No,
(31:01):
not mammoth is definitely.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
Not you were born in Illinois.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Listen, I mean you kind of say that. You kind
of say that cal you met city, I believe, so
not mammoth and not mom.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
So hold on, what do you mean you could kind
of say that like you were just either born where
you were born or you weren't.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Right, I've got ties there were ties there.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
I mean, were you born there or not?
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Listen, I mean, I'm not here to split hairs. Some
would say, technically I was born in southern California, but
I've got family in Illinois and that's where the roots lie.
So I'm gonna go ahead and count that and round up.
So I'm going to count it by.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Like the southern California community, because you don't claim it,
and you keep trying to claim somewhere that you weren't born,
you've never lived.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Mike Tom's that guy when he tried to claim Mexico too.
First of all, you're mad, bro hold on a second.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
That's because he told me one time he feels like
he's conquered you know that country.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
That's not I mean, technically, technically that's that is well talking.
He took over. He's a conquist the door.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Yeah. Like Brady tried to call me the executioner one
time and I said, knock it off right now. That
was That was Floyd Mayweather Roger remember Stadio Cereal.
Speaker 7 (32:28):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific.
Speaker 8 (32:40):
Hey, I'm Doug Gottlieb. The podcast is called All Ball.
We usually talk all basketball all the time, but it's
more about the stories about what made these people love
their sport and all the interesting interactions along the way.
We talked to coaches, we talked to players, We tell
you stories. You download it, you listen to it. I
think you'll listen to All Ball with Doug Gottlieb on
(33:02):
the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
So there is a situation here. We have right here
in my very hands, a fresh brand spankin new edition
of horse Name or horse Craft with the Preakness at
Pimlico taking place tomorrow. Easy for me to nice in Baltimore.
Now we've got to decide who wants to participate. Is
(33:31):
it going to be Brady versus LeVar? Is it going
to be Brady versus Lee? Is it gonna be LeVar
vers Lee? What about Lee versus Eddie? What about LeVar
versus Eddie? I mean, there's a different combination here between
the four that we need to decide on now.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
So what do you, Okay or Liam? Brady?
Speaker 2 (33:48):
All right, Brady your thoughts.
Speaker 5 (33:51):
I will gladly participate in whatever capacity you'd like me to.
But I also don't want to be selfish and not
let others get involved because I know how much and
Lee and berdo also like joining in on the fund.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
Okay, So everybody, if if Brady is just really really
good at this game, or if you're just really really
proactively making sure Brady can be really good at this game,
I would like to see how it goes with.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
There's no what.
Speaker 6 (34:21):
Was that supposed to be?
Speaker 5 (34:23):
Because I don't question your greatness and over unders do.
Speaker 4 (34:26):
I know that's true because I'm a hater though you
know a little.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
And here's why it's difficult, And there's no shenanigans going
on behind the scenes. So just because it's the preakness,
I'm not picking any horses from the Preakness, or maybe
I am because there's an entire day of races on Saturday.
There's an entire day of races on Friday. You don't
know which race I'm pulling from. All you know is
(34:53):
that it's from Pimlico.
Speaker 4 (34:55):
This is you gave Q the last time we did this.
Look gettis dream like.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
I just you know, David Guetta, Yeah, yeah, I.
Speaker 6 (35:06):
Just you know, I don't stuck to the dude next
to him.
Speaker 5 (35:08):
You know, I'm just saying, you know, you know, did
you see him yesterday at a restaurant?
Speaker 6 (35:15):
I did.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
He was frying chicken. Oh god, So I was like, yeah,
it looks like to do you are what you make?
That takes the selfies over? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (35:29):
All right, so.
Speaker 4 (35:32):
Good chicken? Was good to chicken.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
So Brady, who do you who do you want to
take on?
Speaker 6 (35:37):
All right?
Speaker 2 (35:37):
So you will be participating against too, defending your championship.
Speaker 6 (35:41):
At this point, I mean, is Lee a part of
the show still, He's a.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Part of the show. I'm right here, all right, Okay,
Brady versus Lee? All right, let's do that. All right,
so we come in, let's do it. Brady versus Lee
here the battle that's been building.
Speaker 6 (35:55):
I don't know why we don't bring callers for this.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
For years and years. It's because there's sober. It's just
not as fun.
Speaker 6 (36:02):
We're sober too, johnas well, speak for yourself.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
Yeah, drunk off of fatigue. Yeah that's a that's a
very very serious drunk.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
And that works too.
Speaker 6 (36:14):
All right.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
Yeah, there we go. We've got Brady Versuly and another edition.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
Of this.
Speaker 6 (36:22):
Is it a horse name.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Or horse crap?
Speaker 7 (36:31):
All right?
Speaker 2 (36:31):
So away we go. Nakee to Leon Burna for providing
the soundtrack there for that intro. It is another edition
of a horse crap. Now, if if you're new to
this program, you you've never heard the game before. Here's
how it works. There's a list of names here we have.
It's either the name of an actual horse racing this
(36:54):
weekend at Pimlico where the Preakness is taking place, or
it's a completely made up And so we go from
one person to the next they have to tell us
is it a horse name or is it horse crap?
And if we are tied at this list, we have
a tie breaker question at the end of it all. So, Brady,
you won last time. You can choose either to go
first or to hand it over to Lee so he
(37:16):
can go first.
Speaker 6 (37:18):
I'd like to hand it over to Lee to go
first place. Jonathan.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Okay, so let's get it started here first. Up for
lead to lap here, Executive producer of the program. Lead
to lab horse name or horse crap Wikespedia, Wikespedia. I
like it.
Speaker 4 (37:36):
That's not an answer.
Speaker 8 (37:38):
I will say horse crap on Wikespedia.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
That is not not an answer, Leada, not a correct answer.
That it is. That is an actual horse name. Really,
that is a horse name.
Speaker 6 (37:54):
We're still trying to decide what we're using for.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Yes, again, it's moving moving parts here.
Speaker 6 (38:00):
It's shocked to me it took you that long to
get the farts out. That's right there.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
That actually was up one. Yeah, he just.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
Now makes sense.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
The first sime covid is over. Berto's putting the mic
to his ass, all right, So here we go. We
go next, up to Brady Quinn defending champion here on
the show, Brady Quinn, horse name or horse crap? Derby Pucket.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
That's a tough one, Jonas, I mean, obviously, clearly it's
a play on Kirby Pucket, one of the greatest hitters
of all time.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
I'm gonna go with horse craft.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
Though here Jonas, Oh wow, come on, tight up.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
That's uh, that's correct.
Speaker 6 (38:45):
Man.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
Hey look look man, I'm out. Is this in or out?
Speaker 2 (38:49):
I'm out.
Speaker 6 (38:52):
I'm out.
Speaker 4 (38:52):
That's confusing. You're messing with my emotion, clown che He
got it right. I knew he would get it right.
But sound like you got it.
Speaker 2 (39:01):
So we're all the same page here. The horse nay
is is actually the horse name and the horse crap
is the farting sound all right, just so we're on
the same page.
Speaker 4 (39:11):
But he did duke, yes, just now.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Yeah, there was an air, a little bit of an
air there, but it's all good here. We don't judge music.
He was just saying what it was.
Speaker 6 (39:20):
It was horse crap.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
Yeah, but we want to know where.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
There was a horse crap though it was a horse name.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
No, it was horse crap. Confused now, no, No, Brady
got it correct. He said horse crap because he got
it correct. Because he got it correct, there should have
been a right answer.
Speaker 6 (39:38):
Sound, which what is that at this point?
Speaker 4 (39:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (39:43):
Yeah, so that's the right answer. Yes, And if it's wrong.
Speaker 5 (39:50):
For a second, I think I know what happened, all right,
Jonas because of us now changing up our Friday song,
he probably would and said it. Next time we do this,
let's make sure we use the horse sound or a
fart sound for right and wrong answers instead of the
typical bell that.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
We here on it man, you are on it smooth.
Speaker 6 (40:11):
Is that what happened?
Speaker 2 (40:12):
No, that's not what happened. I never said anything to anybody, So.
Speaker 6 (40:15):
This is just bruto freelance. I guess that what this is.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
Yeah, we're figuring it out in real time.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
Okay, it's fun.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
It sounds smooth at job, all right. So let's just
go right answer, right answer, wrong answer, buzzer and just
keep it simple here for everybody. So there's no confusion,
all right, So we continue on here.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
It is a one to start over.
Speaker 6 (40:34):
No, we're good.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
It was confusing for time purposes.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
We're good. We'll tighten it up on the podcast. It'll
make sense, right, all right? So next up here for
Lee to lap Lee, who is trailing one nothing here
in this edition of Horse Name or Horse Crap? As
we get you set for the Preakness at Pimlico, Lee
to lap Horse Name or Horse Crap Grave Chappelle.
Speaker 5 (40:55):
Oh, that's a good one. That's a good one.
Speaker 2 (40:58):
And leading to all the deaths. Yes, I'm going to
say horse crap on that one, jonas Lea, that is correct.
Let us correct grade Chappelle.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
That sound.
Speaker 2 (41:13):
It definitely does what happens when we got it right?
Speaker 6 (41:16):
All right?
Speaker 2 (41:17):
So here we go, next up, as we Berto is
gonna like this one. Next up over to Brady Quinn.
Brady Quinn, horse name or horse crap? Virgara?
Speaker 6 (41:27):
Virgara? See that's it?
Speaker 9 (41:31):
Is this a Spanish word? See how you say it?
Gotta vigata.
Speaker 4 (41:42):
You just said it very differently than Berto.
Speaker 5 (41:45):
Yeah, sing in Berto it the right way then, Gotta.
Speaker 6 (41:49):
I mean I feel like it. Are you gonna? Can
you tell me what it means?
Speaker 2 (41:52):
Berto means Sophia never last name?
Speaker 6 (41:58):
Oh is that?
Speaker 4 (41:58):
Okay? I just got onto that so stupid?
Speaker 10 (42:07):
That is that what it is? Do play with me, honestly,
say what it means. Why are you not saying what
it means?
Speaker 2 (42:18):
You gotta answer it first, Brady, Oh.
Speaker 6 (42:21):
Because I'm the lonely doesn't know.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (42:25):
I'm gonna say it's horse crap.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
That's an actual name. That is an actual name.
Speaker 4 (42:32):
Yeah, y'all have flustered. We were all, you know, what
a cute I'm throwing this one out the window because
they have totally flustered you. You generally have your focus
on and.
Speaker 5 (42:43):
You're just trying to figure out what the hell is
happening behind the scenes, right you're digging.
Speaker 9 (42:49):
It's it's a different word in which we can't say
on the air, Yes exactly.
Speaker 2 (42:53):
Would you say, uh, yeah, yeah, penis, Yes, what as
opposed to we say that, yeah?
Speaker 4 (43:00):
Yeah, sure, okay, all right, but you can't say the
other thing.
Speaker 6 (43:04):
We know.
Speaker 4 (43:06):
You can't say Gina on on on air? No you cannot, Okay, yeah,
Virginia Gina.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
No, definitely can't. All right, so we transition quickly over
to uh Virginia. The next name here for Lee to Lap,
who finds himself in a one to one tie here
on this smooth edition of Horse Name or Horse Crap, Lee,
the name for you is beer can Man.
Speaker 4 (43:33):
I wish that was real?
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Hold on, beer can Man? I think that can be.
I'm gonna go on a limb here, I'm gonna say
horse name.
Speaker 6 (43:47):
Oh wow wow.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
All right, So back over to Brady Quinn here on
this edition of Horse Name or horse crap. So Brady Quinn,
how about this one? Straight no chaser.
Speaker 6 (44:02):
It's a good acapella band and it could be a horse. Gosh,
this is tough.
Speaker 4 (44:12):
That is.
Speaker 6 (44:14):
That's not.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
That is all right? So the drink names applying to
horse names at the Preakness continue here for Lee to lap.
Who's next up here? Lee? What about Morgarita.
Speaker 4 (44:37):
That's such an easy one. Wha man, I see that
was a Brady Quinn one right there. Okay, but went
to you, LeVar, No, it went to Lee.
Speaker 6 (44:48):
Go on to me.
Speaker 4 (44:49):
This was made for Lee. This, this was this was
Taylor made for Lee.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
What.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
First off, I gotta say positive vibes out to Jimmy Buffett,
who's in the hospital right now, has the camp part
of his show. But he's not in the Morgue. He's
in the hospital. He's doing well.
Speaker 8 (45:03):
So that's why I'm gonna say horse crap to Morganville.
Speaker 2 (45:12):
I mean, it really had nothing to do with Jimmy
Jimmy Buffett. I was just gonna call him Jimmy Butler.
It had everything to do with the fact that horses
are dying left and right. So that's really what that is,
all right. So lead the laps, got a three to
two lead over Brady Quinn here on this edition of
Horse Name or Horse Crap as we get yourself for
the Preakness at Pimlico. All right, So, Brady Quinn, what
about Ron Dwarfski.
Speaker 4 (45:39):
I'm gonna.
Speaker 6 (45:41):
I'm gonna say horse crap.
Speaker 5 (45:42):
I don't know this one could be tricky because it's start.
Speaker 2 (45:52):
I'm not I was talking about the uh, the individuals
that ride those horses. All right, so we uh we
move quick over to lead to lap. Who's next up
here on this edition of Horse Name or Horse Crap?
In the late stages, we're all tied up at three apiece,
so lead to lap. Next up for you is Frosty o'tool.
Speaker 4 (46:15):
I'm gonna go.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
Horse crap on that one. Jonas, that is incorrect a
massive air by Lee to Lap late in the game
here on this edition of Horse Name or Horse Crap.
All right, So, uh so we quickly will now transition
over to Brady Quinn, who's got an opportunity to win
(46:37):
the game here on this edition of Horse Name or
Horse Crap. So, Brady Quinn, the name for you is
plausible deniability, Force Name or horse.
Speaker 5 (46:51):
Craft one, it's too long of a name the right, LeVar?
Speaker 6 (46:55):
Can I vote a friend? Can I ask LeVar for
help on this one?
Speaker 4 (47:01):
Jonas answer?
Speaker 6 (47:03):
Can I ask them? What do you think?
Speaker 4 (47:06):
I think it's I think it's a go.
Speaker 6 (47:08):
You think it's a horse dam I do? All right,
I'm phoning my friend LeVar. He thinks it's a horse name.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
Wait wait, wait, wait wait, hold on, hold on, hold on,
hold on, cue, hold on, hold on. Because I said
plausible deniability yesterday. I feel like he might have took
my stick and he's using it against us. Oh no,
I've changed my mind. I'm telling you you're saying it's
horse crap. Do you think it's horse crap? Yes? So
(47:35):
you think he's making a dig at you. He took
that from me.
Speaker 5 (47:39):
Okay, I'm gonna go with LaVar here, folks, I'm gonna
say horse crap.
Speaker 2 (47:44):
That is correct, brain I went from and the little
Easter egg that was thrown in there, So yes, that
is correct.
Speaker 6 (47:57):
Hold on, Why why are you taking a dig at
Lvar with us? I'm not.
Speaker 2 (48:00):
It was just a name that I heard. It was
a term that I heard, and I thought that would
sound like a horse name. It does sound like.
Speaker 4 (48:05):
A horse name deniability yesterday.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
Plausible deniability. Yeah, it sounds like a horse name.
Speaker 4 (48:11):
It does it kind of? Does?
Speaker 6 (48:13):
You know? It's too long though.
Speaker 5 (48:15):
I think when people think of horse names and think
of like as it's coming down the stretch, you know
what you're gonna say.
Speaker 6 (48:20):
I'm surprised, like, oh mama, like the how's that?
Speaker 4 (48:22):
Not a horse? Here comes plausible deniability, way too plausibly
denying anyway.

Yeah, straight, No Chaser that didn't like what was.
Speaker 6 (48:33):

Speaker 4 (48:36):

Speaker 6 (48:39):
I think we should have one name stick City agree.
I mean that would make it the eleven great point.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
You're not a great position necessarily, but that's all right,
