(00:26):
It is decision time in the National Football League for
teams that are trying to figure out who they're starting
quarterback is going to be. The preseason is over. It
is a rap and so now we must know who's
going to be the starter and we get things started
in New England. When it comes to the Patriots and
head coach Bill Belichick, always so warm and welcoming to

(00:47):
the media, always excited to talk to the media and
reveal his secrets. He spoke about decisions at the quarterback
position and whether or not they've been made yet we're
gonna hit to regular season games. Have you made a
decision PND, we will start at quarterback in the regular
season over? Yeah? No, we we still have a lot
of decisions and like, what are you hoping to see
the next weeks of practice build before that first game

(01:09):
from the quarterback position to help you make that decision.
Whenever the Tom calls him, Well, we'll be focused on
preparing for Miami. So that's what we'll do. Good stuff
there from Bill Belichick. Answered a lot of questions there,
and we gotta answer folks. There's answered the questions. I
love him so much. Look, um, this is Cam Newton's gig, right.

(01:31):
I mean, I know that there's been a push because
of the COVID violation or whatever you want to talk about,
that crab, whatever it is. I know there's been this
push for Mac Jones. Like, I just still find it
hard to believe, Brady, that that Cam Newton is not
going to be the guy come Week one. I just
find it hard to believe. I think he's gonna be
the guy week one. I think part of what Bill

(01:51):
Belichick and a lot of coaches do this, especially defensive
minded and LaVar you can speak to this. I'm sure
he wants to make it seem like maybe Max got
a shot because Max skill set is very different than Cams,
especially in the red zone. Right If like you're preparing situationally,
you have to be worried about shortyardage, red zone, quarterback

(02:13):
run game with Cam not so much the case with Max.
I think it's that competitive advantage. We've still got a
couple of weeks. But before that happens, before that that
matchup takes place, right So, um, I don't think they
feel the need to display anything Mac Jones. That being said,
mac Jones played phenomenal in the preseason. You can make

(02:34):
the case he played the best of any of the rookies.
He looks like he's already ready now. He did have
great protection. He was at times playing against backups. But
I do think that if and when his number gets called,
he's gonna go in and play well man like he's
just gonna he's gonna he's gonna go in there and
do what he does. But I still think it's Cam

(02:55):
Newton's deal. Yeah, but I still think it depends on
what the team is going to do as well. Listen,
we get caught up into talking about these quarterback competitions.
Where is New England as a team right now? I
think they're a playoffs him. I think, well, I think
we gotta see how good they're going to be. I mean,
I think they had a productive offseason. Obviously, they they

(03:17):
got aggressive. They were aggressive not only in free agency,
but they were aggressive in the draft, so to me,
and you know, you get guys that were opt outs back.
You're so you should have improved on both sides of
the ball personnel why speaking. But I do also think
that it does come down to what they're going to
be as a team, uh, as a whole. That's going

(03:40):
to play out. That's that's going to tell the story
as to how we should look at what's going to
take place at the quarterbacks position. If this team is
playing at a high level and Cam Newton is not,
which I believe Cam is going to be the starter.
If he's not playing at a high level, then now
I think that the whole idea of what Matt Jones
is represented in the in the preseason now becomes more

(04:04):
of a relevant conversation in terms of him being able
to go in and play. If they're playing well and
Cam is playing well, then Mac is going to sit
and he's going to learn, and he's going to be
a part of learning those nuances of how the plays
are called, how what you're looking for within the schematics
of defenses now preparing for their offenses. So to me,

(04:26):
I think that Cam would have to lay an egg
honestly for Mac Jones to to be in the mix
to take take the starting role at this point in time,
or get hurt or get hurt or get hurt or
get or get COVID or get COVID right or something
related to COVID, we just go leave to in a

(04:47):
team approved medical facility. Which I'm still trying to figure
that whole situation out, but it's a good one. If
I'm Josh McDaniels, I gotta feel so good about my
quarterback situation to the point where like I'm gonna run
Cam like I'm gonna utilize that skill set, that size.
I know he's he's been banged up in the year

(05:08):
through the years, and he's taking a bunch of hits.
But if I feel good about what I got coming
in off the bench, and I think they do, like
I'm gonna pull out all the stops, Like I'm not
gonna be hesitant to run him just because he's had
some injuries or he's had some issues. Like I'm gonna say, look,
this is your advantage, this is our schematic advantage with

(05:29):
you and a quarterback. So I'm gonna do that, like
if it helps the running game, helps all those things,
I'm gonna do that. So bottom bottom line is, if
I'm if I'm the New England Patriots, if I'm Josh
mc daniels, I should feel kind of dangerous because I
could do a lot of creative, unique things with Cam
Newton running the football, and if he gets banged up,
I got a guy coming in off the bench who's confident,

(05:51):
who looks red hot right now. He's got a good,
a good strong grasp of the system. And I think
from what you hear from the players too, they like him,
like they like Mac and the swag and all that stuff.
He's kind of brought in there. So I think they're
a really good position that Jonas is pointed to be
in the playoffs. If Buffalo is the team in that division.
By the way, Buffalo looked awesome over the weekend. If

(06:11):
Buffalo is the team in that division, then I guess
it comes down to a two horse race to who's
gonna be second and vuying for a wild card spot.
And you would you would imagine that's gonna be Miami
in New England, just based on Miami makes you feel
with all of these speculative speculations, they're not they're not convinced.
I'm more. I'm more, I'm more convinced and confident in

(06:34):
the quarterback situation in New England and they're having a
full blown competition right now. I'm more confident in that
situation than I am Miami going into the season because
because the Miami's displayed multiple times over, they're not sure
about two multiple times over. And if they're not sure
about him, I don't know how you can feel confident
going into the year that Miami's that next team after Buffalo.

(06:57):
I think New England's the second best team in that
division right now, but talent wise and roster wise, personnel wise,
Miami is stacked up. Man, It's almost like if you
don't trust to at least trust him to manage the
game for you, Like, I don't understand why why it
has to be so seemingly disruptive as to what his

(07:19):
abilities are. So it says to me, if that is
the case, then you got to believe that there is
something that just is missing from to his game. I mean,
wouldn't you assume that, Brady? Is that the conclusion you
would come to? Yeah, I don't know what other conclusion
you can I mean last year. Look, he admittedly said
he didn't have a strong grasp of the offense. So

(07:41):
in a two minute scenario, like when things move fast,
you you have to understand, you know, what you're trying
to do in a very, very quicker manner than what
you're accustomed to during the course of the game. Okay,
maybe that justifies throwing in Ryan Fitzpatrick from time to
time like they did, but now he's not that. You
don't have that option necessarily unless they want to go

(08:02):
with Jacoby Brissette, who's a season vet, but he just
got there. I just I'm not sure what to make
of it, honestly, Like if if they're hesitant about part
of his game and they're snooping around for Deshaun Watson, which, look,
I guess if if you feel like you're unsure of
the quarterback you have and you have the shot at
getting Deshaun Watson services, it's probably worth taking that shot.

(08:26):
But you did draft the guy in the first round.
You didn't take him the top ten, like you you
should be able to give him a little bit of
leeway and let the you know, let him go and
let him see what he's capable of doing. For a
year before you just give up on him, and before
you make a trade for a guy like Deshaun Watson.
That that's the thing that I don't really understanding this
whole equation, is how they could give up so soon

(08:48):
on him, not really having seen him be able to
play even a full season yet. Yeah, it's it's just
the whole handling last year. It was bizarre the whole
they did this whole Deshaun Watson trade rumor and and
if you're just joining us, uh, the rumors taking place
over the course of the weekend that Deshaun Watson, that
a trade maybe imminent, that the Houston Texans are trying

(09:09):
to figure something out, and one of the teams that
is considered the favorite to land Deshaun Watson is the
Miami Dolphins. I just like, if if the trade gets done,
Deshaun Watson's he's not playing the entire year, right or
are we still in a spot to where unless the
NFL steps up and says something, they could make a

(09:30):
deal for Deshaun Watson And next thing, you know, like
if they get a deal done now, Deshaun Watson could
be what starting in my week two, week three, depending
on how Cotopy gets in the offense. I mean like yeah,
I mean you could have a pair down playbook and
I don't you know, I'll say this much about the
offense if you trace back and it greanted, it depends

(09:52):
upon what George GOTTSI is the OC now there with
Eric Studisville. It depends on what terminology they've implemented. My
guess as though, especially with Brian Flores coming from New England,
George Godzi previously being in New England. Eric Studisville was
with Josh McDaniels, who came from New England back in
Denver when I was there with him, So the terminology

(10:12):
could be similar to what he had with Bill O'Brien,
who obviously stemmed and came from New England's same system.
So that system is prevalent enough where maybe there's enough
terminology and he could get up the speed rather quickly.
But you got to wonder, too, like with everything that's
on the outside looming over the NFL, would the NFL

(10:33):
be then more apt to put him on the exemples
or are they just gonna wait for the legal process
to take its course, which literally could be up to
a year, if not long, If I'm Miami, and the
NFL waits until we do a deal to put him
on the exemp list. I'm piste off. You had months
to figure this out. Nothing has changed. All that happened
was he got he got traded. Like if if they

(10:53):
if the NFL is waiting on a deal for them
to put him on the exemp list, whoever acquires him,
I'd be piste, I'd be furious because the NFL has
been dragging their feet this entire time, trying to make
a decision on this. So is it is it? But
they're not dragging their feet. They're they're waiting on the
criminal side of the legal process to play out. If

(11:13):
there I don't think they can intervene, right, that's not yeah,
And that's that's in that's in the rule book. They
they're they're going to wait until there if there is
a criminal if there is a criminal act A, criminals
take criminal complaints. Now, it's just none of them have
none of them are right right? Right, So once he
if he if he has charged, like if this thing

(11:35):
goes to a trial, he's getting put on the commissioners
exemple lists until there is a definitive action taken against him,
even on the civil side of it, that's not going
to impact him. Let me ask you this right again,
this is total hypothetical. Say a deal gets done in
the next four but what's a save Miami trades for

(11:58):
Deshaun Watson the next hours. What are the chances he
starts Week one against New England? I swear my god,
remember when they yes, you gotta think okay, because when
the when the Niners traded Garoppolo or traded for Garoppolo,

(12:19):
didn't he sit for like five weeks? Brady? I think
he sat for a few games before they put him in.
He sat for a little while. But this is a
different that's a different You got a tiger by the
tail if you're getting Deshaun Watson into your your organization.
So there, there's That's what I'm wondering. I mean, you've
got a couple of weeks, like, I mean, what do
he what do he? What would you need to get

(12:39):
to get prepared and ready enough to start week one? Brady,
if you're Deshaun Watson, what would you act like like
bare minimum? What would you need to take you know,
be under center week one? If you're Deshaun Watson from
the Dolphins, just a pair Downlook like I'd literally go
in there and say, okay, and honestly, like what may
be easiest to do. And I always said this, like

(13:00):
when a guy comes in during the season, it's easier
than if he gets there in training camp because in
training camp, and I've argue you to speak to this,
like you got all these installs. Well, if you only
have to learn a game plan, you only have to
learn situations and what's specific to that team, their personally
what you're doing, So it might not be as difficult
as you think. And you're not gonna be harping on

(13:21):
like in the run game, you know what his footwork
looks like, like, look, you're just trying to make sure
you get the snap and get the hand off or
get the shock, you know, saying, so it's not gonna
be that difficult. It's the passing game progressions. It's really
understanding the protections and then getting a sense of timing
and chemistry with the guys you're throwing to. But the

(13:42):
good thing for them is, look, one of his receivers
is there. Will Fuller came from Houston to to Miami,
so he's got one of his receivers already there. It
just comes down to getting a rapport and developing that
with everyone else. Does Houston ask for two in return? That? Yeah,
you have to, because unless you're so worried about the

(14:03):
situation they're I think they're looking for draft picks. I
think they're looking for draft picks because they're going to
go for all kinds. Number one. Okay, so Tyrod Taylor,
Davis Mills, and who else is in Houston right now?
I'm forgetting one. But but that's their quarterback situation. I mean,
if two is there, and if you you think he
got something in him, like, I mean, why wouldn't you

(14:25):
ask for two in return? I mean, if if you're
looking for a quarterback, if you're looking to start over,
it's sensible. I just man, this sensible thing is wild.
I mean, because why I keep two? At that point,
You've ruined them, You've ruined the relationship. Absolutely done, Absolutely done.
Uh And it's a Jeff Driscoll is the other quarterback

(14:46):
in in Houston, So hopefully too it could beat out
one of those guys maybe, but we will monitor that.
This is a just gonna be a very busy eight
hours there in the NFL with cuts and potential trades
and movement and all that stuff. All right, Brady Quinn,
Jonas Knox, LaVar Rington out kick the coverage here Fox
Sports Radio. You can hang out with us. Is always
on the I Heart Radio app. Coming up next though,

(15:07):
we have another major situation in the NFL, a decision
that has not been made yet or has it. We'll
have all that for you next year. It's I'll kick
the coverage Fox Sports Radio. This This is I'll kick
the coverage coming up in less than ten minutes from now. Uh,
you will hear just a glorious response to a fan base.

(15:32):
I absolutely love this story. It is a wonderful feel
good moment here and the world of sports on a Monday.
We'll have that for here less than ten minutes from
now on Fox Sports Radio. So we talked about the
situation in New England, whether it be Cam Newton or
Mac Jones. Uh, you know, the decision to be made,
Bill Belichick and them still sorting through this is is

(15:54):
this forty Niners quarterback situation gonna be They're they're really
going to platoon these guys like it's gonna be a
Trey Lancer is gonna get a lot more opportunities or
is this just all posturing and they're gonna go ahead,
Brady and uh and make the decision that Jimmy g
is going to be the starter week one and then
we move forward. I honestly don't know, you know, I
honestly feel like at this point it makes the most

(16:16):
sense before week one to say that, to showcase that
and make everyone have to prepare for it, like and
and that's one of the things that you know when
you're the starter, you know, and you gotta prepare for
all these exotic blitz is. You always kind of think, well,
they're not gonna run that against us, because we have
an answer for that. But they're gonna run something that

(16:36):
we struggled with last week or two weeks ago that
we didn't address. They're gonna run that, you better believe it.
And then when you're the scout team quarterback, you'll be
running place sometimes and you're like, man, they're they're just
preparing for anything. Like you can tell when a defensive
staff is hot and bothered by who they're playing based
on the options that they have a quarterback or the

(16:58):
variety of things they can do. Because then you, then
you're running like different quarterback run game things that are
going on, you running trick plays, all these different things.
And that's the predicament that Kyle Shanahan is putting their
opponents in, at least early on this season when saying, like, hey,
we've got two options. That's always gonna be in the
game plan. You your staff has to waste time every

(17:19):
week going over quarterback run game, going over like option plays.
Like when you're in college football and you play an
option team just once, if you play Navy just once
during the season, you start preparing for them in the spring,
not the week before, like you're preparing in spring training
camp all that. So, like what Kyle Shanahan is doing

(17:41):
right now is basically proverbial giving a middle finger to
all the defensive coordinators that they get to go up
against and saying, yeah, this is always an option, So
go prepare for this. Walk through this every single week
because we may only bring it out once or twice,
or maybe we bring it out twenty times in the game,
but either way, you're gonna be all night every week

(18:01):
you come play playoffs, because we're making you prepare for
both guys and completely different schemes. Yeah. My my take
on it is that he's done it. But I mean
it's been done with Alex Smith and Kaepernick. Um it
can work to to have special packages, and he's may
mention that he's going to do situational special packages with

(18:24):
with Trade Lance, So I don't I think it may
be overblown or overstated to say platoon. I don't think
he's going to platoon them, but I do think that
in situations that use Trade Lances skill sets that make
it very simple and playing for him to be able
to have successful reps, he'll get in. And I wonder

(18:47):
when it comes to Kyle Shanahan, has he ever had
a quarterback that does what Trade Lance does Because one
of the like, think about Matt Ryan, he wasn't really okay. Yeah,
so r G three would be the guy. And other
than that, I just r G three was probably better
than Trey Lance his rookie year. He was awesome. RG

(19:07):
three was legit le He was so much fun to watch.
It was legit. He had the city on fire. I
was gonna say, how crazy was that city he was?
I was covering that he had the city on fire.
If I would have told you, hey, man, r G
three is pretty good. Uh, you know, Kirk Cousins is
going to be the quarterback of the future, right if

(19:28):
I would Well, here's what's interesting, all right. That was
always a topic of conversation because everybody thought that Kirk
Cousins was a really good quarterback that just slipped and
fell into where he fell in the draft. Now the
conversations began to rise that the owner wanted r G

(19:52):
three the Shanahans, one of Kirk Cousins, So they both
ended up getting what they wanted. But because RG three
proved to be legit in his first year, and if
he had really understood that there are grizzly bears that
can run just as fast as you in the National
Football League, he wouldn't have got his knee dislocated and

(20:15):
knocked off of his body by Hello Ti Nada and
totally changing the trajectory of his career. But the other
outside of that, I mean, you'd have to assume that
RG three would would still be there. Would there would
be a very different scenario playing out right now. Had
RG three understood to just not get hit, do not

(20:39):
get hit like, don't take the physical challenge of getting
hit like it's okay to get out there and run
the way that you're running. You're you're as fast as
anybody else. I mean, his runs were amazing, But you
just can't. You can't be a finisher. You just gotta
you gotta get down, you gotta get out of bounce.
Don't try to get that extra yard. And he just

(21:01):
he couldn't convince himself to do it. And so the
point I'm making here is is that you look at
a guy like Trey Lance. Trey Lance isn't gonna come
into the game and run like RG three Rand when
he was coming out, but he can run very well.
He can he can do a lot of things athletically
that will, again, like Brady said, put a defense in

(21:22):
in position where they have to prepare for the athleticism
that comes into play when dealing with packages with Trey
Lance on different scheme. I mean, I'm sure you went
up against it at times. When you got to play
against an athletic quarterback like that, it changes how you rush,
It changes you know, your responsibilities in past coverage because
past plays become running plays. When you got a guy

(21:44):
who can take off and run like Trey can, I mean,
it changes everything for you, right, It's I mean, if
I got to prepare in a game where I'm playing
against uh Tom Brady, and then they bring in a
Mike Vick, it's it's it's you almost have to play
Mike like it's a punt. I mean. And that's the

(22:05):
terminology that you use. Everybody, Get up filled and stay
in your lane, because if you get out of your lanes,
he's going to see the lane that opens up, and
he's going to he's going to make you pay. And
if he gets behind you, you're not going to catch him.
And and that's how you know, I don't I don't
know that, that's how you're looking at a trade lance.

(22:27):
But he certainly will gash you. And and when you
have a gashing quarterback, um, you certainly have to be
prepared to deal with their athleticism in their mobility. He's
out La Barrington Jonas knocks Brady Quinn. It's how kicked
the coverage here on a Fox Sports Radio coming up next.
This is just a heartwarming, feel good story about a

(22:47):
player at a fan base who will have that for
you here on Fox Sports Radio. But for all the
latest from around the world of sports. A man who
sat and sweat his balls off at the Fresno State
game like a loyal Fresco State alum. Yeah, the great
Eddie Garcia. Yeah, metal bleachers, Uh oh no, yeah, triple

(23:09):
the nment. It's better for the environment. It wasn't better
for my environment. It could have been a Yukon fan
and lost nothing and slated my balls off. So I'm
all right, they should have just quit playing for two
years in a row. What's the point I think they? Wow,

(23:29):
you're right, Let's get to baseball games of note. Sunday night,
we had the A's beating the Eighties three to one.
Oakland now five and a half back of Houston in
the Al West. Astros lost to the Rangers two. New
York is now six back of Tampa Bay in the
at least Raised beat the Orioles twelve d eight. New
York also two up on Boston for that first wild
card spot in the American leading. The Red Sox lost
to the Indian seven to five. Boston's lead for that

(23:50):
final wild card spot is at two and a half
on Oakland. Battle of division leaders in Atlanta with a
Brave shut off the Giants nine nothing, Atlanta still four
and a half up on Philadelphia and the n At
least Philly beat the Diamondbacks seven to four. San Francisco
still has that two and a half game lead on
l A and the NLS. The Dodgers were shot out
by the Rockies five to nothing. Reds loose to the
Marlins two to one, since they's lead is at a
game and a half on IDOL San Diego for that

(24:12):
final wild card spot in the Nationale, also three and
a half up on St. Louis. Cardinals lost the Pirates
four to three, and the Mariners beat the Orioles four
to three. Seattles four and a half out in that
a L wild card race. NFL preseason Jaguars beat the
Cowboys thirty fourteen. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence for Jacksonville was eleven
of twelve passing hundred and thirty nine yards, two touchdowns,
no interceptions. For the forty Niners, they beat the Raiders

(24:34):
thirty four to ten. In that San Francisco quarterback battle,
Jimmy Garoppolo four of seven passing sixty four yards, no touchdowns,
uh passing, but he did have a rushing score, and
Trey Lance was six of thirteen passing forty six yards,
also no touchdown passes, but he had a rushing score
as well. Patriots beat the Giants twenty two to twenty.
In that New England quarterback battle, you had Cam Newton
two of five passing for ten yards with an interception.

(24:57):
Mac Jones was ten of fourteen passing hundred fifties of
yards with a touchdown pass. The Dolphins beat the Bengals six.
Joe Burrow did see his first preseason action for Cincinnati,
but just one series and only one pass attempt. It
was incomplete and the Brown's meat the Falcons nineteen to ten.
Josh Rosen trying to catch on with Atlanta nine of
eighteen passing hundred eighteen yards with a touchdown pass. Now

(25:18):
back to Jonah Stocks, Brady Quinn, and LaVar Arrington in
the out kick the coverage to you, Thank you, Eddie
is out kick the coverage here Fox Sports Radio coming
up fifteen minutes from now here on fs ARE. A
Super Bowl champion quarterback is in some hot water. He
is getting a lot of heat for something that took
place over the weekend. We will have that for year
fifteen minutes from now on fs ARE. Right now, though

(25:40):
it's time for something we do on the show called
this How could you not get to? These stories are
the scraps? And for that we turn it over to
our executive producer, Danny g to find out what the
hell we've missed so far on the show. Deep All right,
Brady LaVar, did either of you celebrate a touchdown on

(26:00):
or a big play by booing at your own fans?
I can't remember that. Ever since his trade to the
Mets at the trade deadline, Hobby Bias has been loving
his time in New York unless he hasn't been. The
headline reads, Javier Bias among New York Mets to jab
at booing fans with thumbs down celebration. He hit a

(26:24):
four hundred and forty four foot blast at City Field,
and as he rounded the bases, he gave the fans
some of their own medicine by celebrating with the thumbs
down gesture. After the game, he explained why he did it,
Not much, Chane. We're gonna struggle. You know, we're gonna
we're gonna we're gonna struggle seven times out of out
of ten, and and you know it just it just

(26:45):
feels bad when when when we stried when I stried
gout and I get boo. You know, it doesn't really
get to me, but like I want to, I want
to let them know that when we says we're gonna
do the same thing, to to know how to let
them know how how he feels, you know, because if
we went together, then we got loose together. You know,
and and and defense are really big part of it.
So um, in my case, they gotta be better. You know,

(27:06):
I'll played for defense, and I love defense, but you know,
if if they're going to do that, they just putting
more pressures on the team. And and that's not that's
not what we want. Good. He's got to be better
than winning seven times out of losing seven times. Well,
by the way, you think he's rounding up there, if
it's bias, it's he's striking out eight and a half times.

(27:27):
That's way too many times. I don't mind him doing this,
I mean, and the only reason I'm saying that is
because it's only going to make it more of a
storyline and something to talk about, so it gives us
something to talk I don't really care if from that
sort of relationship with the fan base whatever, But I mean,
you're not. You guys are playing well. I mean it's

(27:48):
pretty simple, Like I think we know what the solution
is the entire situation. Look, I love how soft New
York fans are. Like they can bury anybody, and they
can talk tough, and it can trash any player and
organization and and and talk as much as they want.
Hobby bias. It's a four forty ft bomb goes to

(28:10):
step on home plate, puts his thumbs down, and everybody's
offended by it. You're soft. You can dish it, but
you can't take it. Come on, man, I still say
if you're losing seven times, if you're losing seven times
out of ten, you're going to get seven more times
to his three thumbs down to give him the business.

(28:30):
It is the sport, right, It is kind of sport.
How it works. Uh, one last thing, New York pizza.
It's pretty good, all right. You can get good pizza anywhere.
I'm gonna go out and say you can get good
pizza anywhere. Yeah, listen, sorry, fan base. If you're wondering,
he's hit two oh seven with three homers and five

(28:50):
rb i s in sixteen games. This next headline Jonas
and I we we were looking through the internet because
every single headline as fake high school, fake high school,
and I'm like, how is this possible? A possibly fake
high school apparently duped its way into playing on ESPN.

(29:11):
An online prep school got on the air Sunday after
playing on Friday, So the ESPN family of networks were
jam packed with high school football this weekend, the first
time in two years. The weekend was concluded Sunday with
the Grand Finale at the Hall of Fame Classic at
Canton's Hall of Fame Stadium. Defending national champion I AMG. Academy,

(29:34):
who we've all heard of, went up against Do you
know the school Bishop Sycamore. No, you don't, because the
ESPN announcers were confused and they had to vamp their
way through the game. They didn't know who this school
was either. The school claims to be from Columbus, Ohio.
They went oh and sixth last season, the program second

(29:57):
in existence. I AMG. Claubert s Comore by a score
fifties six to six. Sycamore got in Sunday Showcase because,
according to ESPN, the school acquired a number of FBS
prospects to its roster, except as a Niche Shrof of
ESPN explains that turned out not to be true. He says,
Bishop Sycamore told us that they had a number of

(30:19):
Division one prospects on their roster, but to be frank,
we couldn't verify any of it, and he tweeted out sorry,
they had no business being in that game today none.
I feel bad for the kids. Player health and safety
was at risk today. It was uncomfortable for anyone who
watched in In In case you're wondering, people have been trying
to do research on this school. There's little to no

(30:41):
information on Sycamore on the internet. What appears to be
the school's website, Bishop Sycamore dot org is a blog.
It's most recent post is May twenty one, and it
explains how to catch a college recruiters attention on social media.
The websites about us section is blank. Yeah, let let

(31:03):
me tell you what happened. Okay, let me just give
you the digs on what happened. I AMG. Academy is
viewed as the bad boys of high school football because
no one wants to play because they're the top players
usually for the most part, around the country. And here's
the problem is when they come up to your town,
they're recruiting your top guys. It's like going to college

(31:25):
a year or two early and getting a scholarship to
go down to Bradenton, Florida and be at that complex
and basically prepare for college football. And so that's a
problem and most most states, most high schools, they don't
like it. You know, they don't want them pluck in
their best players from their local towns and communities. So
that's part of the issues. I think they had a
hard time finding someone to play IMG, but they knew

(31:49):
i MG would get some buzz. And so this is
a team that if I'm not mistaken, Danny, I think
they played Friday and got drums and then played Sunday
two days later, which one isn't say, but two goes
to show you. I think someone said, hey, you want
to I want to come bring your guys to play
on national television. We don't know what you are, but
we got i AMG Academy, so you get some exposure

(32:10):
and they probably signed up for it, unfortunately. I mean,
so it's so it's it's basically a fake high school.
It's really what this is. Yeah, but there's other places
that have done this where they have a strictly online
curriculum so kids can then go kind of play wherever
they want. This. I've never heard of it. I'm from Colomas.
I've never heard of Bishop Sycamore. You know, uh, you
know he's an assistant coach on this fake high school.

(32:30):
H Jesse Jesse, I see she's she's on the cheerleading squad,
that fake that fake corps that I was dating, that
fake dead body man's shoot or shoot. I don't have

(32:52):
to tell you. You know their mascot is. Are they
all together? Are they they're all offended? Are they together today?
Mantai and that dead body someone, Yeah, he's I think
I think he's married. Yeah he's yeah. No, no, he
stayed out of the morgue. People that don't exist dot com,

(33:14):
hold on, hold on, hold on Jonas, But Jonas actually
facts facts, searched this, and I think he found he
was like okay, okay, he came around strong. Just yeah.
But they just a wonderful story. Off for everybody involved
and good for hobby bias. Give it to those soft fans.
I don't know. By the way, quickly, Brady, you mentioned it.

(33:37):
New York Pizza Chicago style pizza. Where are we going
on this? Well, I mean, look, most people would say
Chicago style pizza is not like a style. I'm just
saying you can get good pizza anywhere that If that's
where really where you hang your hat, it's like get
out of here with that, right, I agree with that. Yeah,
there's probably a pizzeria in in Ohio, certainly in Pittsburgh.

(33:58):
Manicello's where I'm from there. I mean, They're pizza is phenomenal.
I take her for anybody. Well you now you have, yeah,
you have when we go man, when we go to Pittsburgh,
we're going, bro, when that will be We're going on
and they have buffalo Buffalo French fries, Buffalo French fries. Bro,

(34:21):
It's like, I don't know what it is. Yeah, they're
the French fries with like but they're done like buffalo
wings to They got like if you're into like blue
cheese crumbles and stuff like that, it's it's so much better,
pretty pretty amazing. That's so much better in ranch. You know.
It's funny because people are really into blue cheese Pittsburgh.

(34:42):
They judge you if you use ranch. Ye, I'm a
ranch guy. I'm like Ranch, nobody's perfect, but I represent
the bird. I don't want to babies perfect. And it's
all right, all right, I'll kick to coverage Sports Radios.
Brady quit with the heir. I'll coming up next that
a Super Bowl winning quarterback is in some hot water.
We've got the details for you here on fs ARE.

I'll kick the coverage here Fox Sports Radio. Jonas Knox, Brady,

(35:49):
Quinn LaVar Arrington. We will be back on the air tomorrow,
same time, same place, six am Eastern time, three o'clock
Pacific here on Fox Sports Radio. UM. Now we've talked about,
you know, this high school football season and uh, you
know LaVar Arrington drawn up plays, Uh, getting ready for

(36:10):
for another week of high school football. I don't know
if if you guys have ever taken this approach. I know, Brady,
you've filled in and done some high school coaching not
long ago. Um. Trent Dilfer uh and a little bit
of a and some hot water. Uh, the former NFL
Quarterbacks Super Bowl champion. He's a head coach at a
high school in Tennessee, and a video surfaced of him

(36:34):
getting into the face of one of his players demanding
he sit down really really aggressively kind of pushing him back. Uh.
Some people are outraged by it and the behavior of
Trent Dilfer. He has since released a statement, uh, you know,
apologizing for it. He should have handled it a little
bit better, but trying to explain his reason for wanting

(36:56):
to uh you know, uh just sort of set a
tone there, I guess, or make sure that there were
no no issues and trying to create some discipline with
this team in a moment in which they needed. But nonetheless,
Trent Dilfer in a little bit of hot water here
when it comes to this stuff so interesting. I mean,
before you're you're you're coaching with young men right now, well,
and I'm taking the year off, but okay, but yeah,

(37:20):
I have you have been for the last five years.
I have, And so I assume you saw the video
I did. And I'm more curious to get your thoughts
on this, only because you've been closer to it of late,
and because I feel like when you and I grew up,
I don't know, that's easy. You already know, yeah, it's easy,
like that's that's a part of it. In fact, in fact,

(37:41):
you might get a whole bunch of profane language that
accompanies to sit down. It isn't just you sit down,
you sit down. It's in fact, in some places still
today it's still sit the bleep the bleep the bleep down,
you bleep it and and you know what, And it's

(38:05):
just it just depends on you have to know your environment.
At Long Beach, Polly, you could get away with being
hard nosed at at the school I just left, you can't.
Like I, I was called in and I had to
do interviews with the head of school because I was
getting accused of being bully, a bully to my players.

(38:28):
When I was screaming the plays, Brady, I was screaming
the play. I'm screaming at them, get outside, get outside.
It's a power tossed, power tossed. And they said I
was bullying them, right, So it's just I think it
all comes down to what the expectation of the environment
that you're in, the school that you're at, and and

(38:51):
what they want from their employees and how they want
their children to be service if you're out of football school,
this is this is a non This is a non conversation, right,
And the interesting thing about this particular scenario is this
Bo Dawson was the player. His dad, Phil Dawson, former
teammate of mine. He's a special team's cordin. It was

(39:12):
his son, and so this leads me to wonder, like
what happened beforehand, Like knowing Trent a little bit, It's
not like his fuse just blows and he's gonna act
like that. I'm curious what happened beforehand. I don't know
if it was something to his dad's im into another
player or whatever the case may be, but it feels
like there was a line that was crossed. And obviously

(39:33):
I'm most curious to see what Phil thinks about this,
And and that's where I wonder, like, you know, again,
what you know, how he's gonna justified. I know he's
apologized since, but there comes a time in a place
to where we don't know what led to this, and
I'm more curious to see what the player did and
led to this. And I'm not gonna assure you from

(39:54):
knowing Phil, how his son reacted, I don't think would
be the way in which he would want him to
react to a coach who's trying to talk to him. You,
even no matter how Trent was viewed, even in that instance,
I don't think that's how he'd want his son to
be acting, throwing his helmet, all that stuff. So look,
I think there's obviously more to the story. I hate
to watch one clip of a video and then build

(40:15):
a pass judgment. But that's the thing we don't know
about this is he's getting a lot of flak for
there's people chiming in who have no clue how this
whole thing got started. Yeah, it's all about context, because
to me, very few guys are in this profession for
the money. They're in it for the love. They're in
it for the care of the kids, and if he's

(40:35):
trying to give him hard love, and then that's that
that one gets a little bit Harry. You know, guys
need to be able to be coachable and and sometimes
you know, it just it gets taken out of context
and then people are soft these days and so are
their kids. We live in a woods. The shots fired
in the show, You're soft. According to
