Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is the best of two pros and a couple of
Joe with Lamar Areas, Rady Quinn and Jonas Knocks on radio. Guys,
it's back. It's here's back the NFL. It's back. Yes, yes, yes,

(00:28):
do it build it up? Yeah, go that damn time. Man.
Just think about all the crap we had to cover
over the past several months just to get to this moment,
and now football's here, the NFL season is here. I'm
jacked up about it. One final question before we actually

(00:50):
get to football. Yeah, was this the most like jam
pack crazy offseason NFL history? Yeah? Off field quarterback especially
how today? So think about all this stuff. Just think
about all the stuff. You had Tom Brady retire and unretired,
which was like that was this offseason. It felt like

(01:11):
it was two off seasons ago. You had Roger's decided
to come back, which that gets glossed over. Um, you
had Deshaun Watson moving on, who, as we've most recently
found out, clearly it would looked like he was going
to the Atlanta Falcons. That's at least that's what the
Atlanta Falcons stopped. And then now we find themselves suspended,

(01:32):
which they finally got a verdict on that. But in
in Cleveland and you Matt Ryan who then moves to
the Appolis Colts. You have Carson Wentz who then moves
to the Washington Commandos. I mean Jos takes Russell Wilson
goes to Denver. You get, you get the different head
coaching hires and and all that carousel of what happened.

(01:52):
I mean, it has been the craziest off season I
think that I can recall, at least in my lifetime.
In the end, I felt with all, where where are
you at on this? I mean, it's hard to disagree,
you know. And you gotta add to the Aaron Rodgers
fact that he came back to Green Bay. Not only
did he come back, but he ended up in green

(02:13):
He ended up back. He was looking at retirement to
not only retirement or not coming back, not being in
Green Bay at all. So yeah, I mean the amount
of money, obviously, it's set financial records um for for
off season spending. And I agree with you also, Jonas
that this was a very very quarterback heavy um off season,

(02:37):
just very quarterback heavy. And you know what, it was
a great offseason for receivers too, Like they reset the
market is as well. There was a lot of big
contracts done, um and some interesting like you guys, some
just some interesting moves. So I mean, I'll tell you
that we Entertainment, Von Miller and Buffalo got Aaron Donald
who came out of retirement to sign back with shot

(02:59):
m VAFT winning the Super Looking Out potentially TV contracts.
I mean with Clio mac is now Los Angeles charges
Chandler Jones is in Las Vegas, like, I mean, we
had so much movement and so many like star players
finding homes elsewhere. Davantae Adams with the Raiders. I mean
it's just I sit back in Arkansas, I mean, is true? Yeah,

(03:25):
little little rocks accumulating their team, right, and think about this.
You had an owner hiding on a yacht just so
he didn't have to be like which that got married?
That was like whatever. Which, by the way, they're going
to interview Bruce Allen soon, which is I think they
already did Tuesday? Did it did it already happen? I

(03:48):
think it already happened with the Oversight committee on Tuesday.
I'm surprised. I mean I haven't heard anything about it,
but that now, that is a doozy of an interview.
I will tell you that you think he knows we're
a couple of things. Hey, a LaVar, you'd tell me.
My impression of Bruce Allen is that dude's putting on
a life vest. He is not going to go down

(04:09):
with the ship. He is gonna put on that life
vest and look for a floating cabinet somewhere like a Titanic.
You got that thing you gotta think about. They kicked
him overboard, That's what I'm saying. They didn't. Yeah, they
didn't even keep him on the plane, on on the boat.
It wasn't even going down. They kicked him off. So
I'm certain he probably doesn't have a you know, ah

(04:32):
emotional tie to to protect the interest of the team
and a dance. Snyder, are you saying that Bruce Allen
wouldn't be like your dad Chopper jumping in the lake
to go get the golf clubs out of the water
when a j hawk driven into the pond. You're butchering
the story. It wasn't my dad who jumped in. It
was Oz, who was a character in and of himself

(04:53):
with this entire story. All Right, the Oz great name,
the crazy one that is oz Steve and was born
full name, but we all call him oz or Oh
to the sea man. You don't come on now, you don't,
don't mix up the story. Okay, that's part of the
legend of Oz. It just that just goes underwater. No
snorkele to get a pack of parliaments out of the

(05:14):
bottom of the sea. If you guys could have seen
our eyes, I swear, I mean they looked bread and
bloodshot from just that water, that murky whatever the hell
was in the water. Um. It is weird though when
you name because there's always movement in the off season,
when it comes to free agency and you get you
get some trades. Pause for a second. Can we talk
about the TV movement? That's part of it, Like even

(05:37):
even how it's presented. We had we had a Fox
crew moved to Monday night football. We have Kirk kerk
Street who we've seen on Saturdays now moved to Thursday
night football. Like there has been a ton of movement,
you know, Greg Olsen, Kevin Burkhard, those guys are taking over.
And then the news of Tom Brady. Yet I don't
know what the hell is gonna happen. Now it's like

(05:58):
if you're traveling and worry this huch about tomp right
doing the football schedule, TV is not a whole lot
different um and so I'm not sure if that deal
ever comes to fruition. But it's also we're talking these
are not just you know, run of the mill. Well
they got to free agency, or they moved on because
their current team wanted to go in a different direction.
Like these are Hall of Fame type players that have

(06:18):
moved around. Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, Like these are Hall
of Fame players potentially at the quarterback position, Russell Wilson,
all these guys that are now just in different different
places now, just in one offseason, all of this went down.
And I don't know if this is going to be
par for the course or if this was just a
weird circumstances dictated why these guys were moving around the

(06:40):
way that they were, The market dictated it. And yet
here we are and it's it's wild just to think
about all these big names and there another spots. Now,
It's crazy, man, the NFL what a fun off season.
I mean, it gave us plenty to talk about. I mean,
why couldn't they give a sister in the pandemic. You know,
during the pandemic, we have guys could have moved around
like this. It really would have helped our cause, but
unfortunately blames algae. Yeah, that's that's I mean that he

(07:03):
didn't want us to have any fun. Hard to go
wrong with that one, you know, that's if you're looking
for the scapegoat. Uh. Now with that being said, can
I can can I ask you guys a a nerdy
you played the game? We didn't play the game question?
Because I always wondered about this, Did you guys ever
feel ready week one? Like, did you ever feel right

(07:23):
at kickoff? I'm ready to go, let's go? Or did
you need to get cracked a couple of times to go? Okay,
here we are now, I feel like I'm finally in
the full swing of things. How long did it take
before you felt fully ready week one of the NFL season?
Game one? Um? Until I felt fully ready for a week? Yeah?
Just just game one? Probably not so you got out there.

(07:44):
I mean that's how I felt. I remember that whole
I told you as the whole star Caps case. With
Kevin and Pat Williams for the Minnesota Vikings, we thought
they were going to be suspended for the game. Lo
and behold, we found out they actually won their appeal.
So next thing, I, oh, I've got this monster at
the one technique or knows. Then we got a ridiculous

(08:04):
player and Kevin Williams at the three technique and uh
and that was Brett Farve. Like that entire opening game
Minnesota Vikings deal. It was. It was like Brett Farve,
you know, coming back first game Minnesota. Was that his
first game Minnesota and Adrian Peterson went off that day,
which actually stole all the stories. I took a hit,

(08:24):
I want to say, like the second series where I
literally my my soul was removed from my body like Kevin.
Kevin Williams made like an inside swim move on our
right guard, and I was like, by my third step
on a five step drop, I felt a presence and
literally I just remember by getting like four or five,

(08:46):
I was all of a sudden like flat like horizontal
the ground, and I had this three or pound man
laying on top of me and I damned near fumbled
by in the ball against my body and I was
just like WHOA, that was quick. Okay, we're gonna have
to have a little quicker turtle clock today like it was.
I mean that was when I was like, okay, now
now you're ready, Like you thought you had a good
game plan going into it. Now with these guys playing,

(09:08):
it kind of changes up the whole demeter of how
this game is gonna go. You were sacked five times
in that game. Yeah, I know, those guys are good.
I mean that's and that's I believe that Jared Allen
then they had all I mean, that was a good,
good defense. I remember Chad Green, what was like calling
out all our plays. He was like, man, you guys
are running the same thing you all run in a preseason.
I was like, Chad, it's it's a new offense. But
you want to Chad, Yeah, I'm looking over the just

(09:32):
some of the stats here. Look at look at you
a two rushing attempts twenty one yards. I mean, it's
running from my life, that's all right, banging out ten
yards a clip. Every time you got the football on
the ground, you were picking up. The most frustrating thing
about that game was we practiced this like spread, no
huddle offense and we didn't run it to the very
last series. And if you look at the very last series,

(09:53):
I had Robert Royal for a touchdown. We moved the
ro right down the field. That was our best chance
of doing it. But our play caller at the time
didn't want to do it. He wanted to try to
find a rhythm. He wasn't sure how our old line
would handle, you know, both Whim's brothers being in the game,
and and and that was like, well, like can we
do this going into it any of these games at
some point? So anyway, it just feels like it comes

(10:15):
up so fast the season and when you're you know,
not really playing that much in the preseason. I've always wondered,
right at kick off, does anybody feel totally ready to go,
like totally ready to go fully? What does that mean though,
because I'm never fully ready to play until I get
my first play, Like I'm fully prepared, I'm ready to

(10:38):
go emotionally, I'm ready to go mentally, um by the
first game. You gotta keep in mind we played in
preseason back in the day, so we would do a
few few reps on game one. By Game three, we
were playing all the way into the third quarter, and
your body was now acclimated to being able to make

(10:58):
it through through a game. So you didn't have to
go through like game one, jitters or anything like that.
You were already playing games. You were already in in
the mix of like okay, I'm I'm done with preseason,
it's time to play. You know, it's time to get
into it. But in terms of the game itself, like

(11:19):
all right, here we are, the game is up, the
game is on. Always this was a weird thing for me.
I mean, in in high school. Now I went both ways,
so it didn't kind of apply. But I was always
nervous as hell. Yeah, so anyway, um, yeah, I was

(11:42):
always nervous as uh, nervous about playing the game until
I played my first play left then righty, al right,
here we go. But it was a fair question, you know,
like qu it's the come on now, it's the listen

(12:07):
it's in North Hills Hammer, you know, I mean, it
took all new meaning and this and this obviously in
this I was I heard the statement I was just
falling up on it. That's certainly did It was like
that what the media should have done for Aaron Rodgers
immunized immunized, Well, I mean, and I enjoyed it. You know,
I really enjoyed going both ways. I mean, there's probably

(12:30):
very few who enjoyed it as much as I did.
We get that in the back that I just want
to make sure we're all cleared in the back that
we got that, we got that captured so we can
use that out of context at some point during this time.
But hey, listen, Football's back is back. So we are
fired up about it. We're gonna make our season predictions.

(12:55):
And I throw this out there to you guys, and
this is why I am scared out of my mind
for betting the this week. So of the sixteen games,
do you know we have ten home underdogs, I will
take all ten and never look back. Give me all.
So that's the thing. That's a strategy. And I know
that's like, yes, what you're supposed to do, because you're

(13:15):
probably gonna hit on more than most people think. But
it's ridiculous, like I don't know that we've ever seen
this many home underdogs to start a season. Well, and
it's also I think the bet would be if you
have a significant underdog at home, like they may cover
this week, hammer them, hammer against them next week. That's
that's where that's where everything's gonna start to slay out

(13:35):
law of Averages and bad teams become bad teams. But yeah, listen,
we got we're gonna make our Super Bowl picks coming
up later on. Alright, we got we got over unders,
we got Albert Brier stopping by, we got the b
Q News, I mean, you name it. Everything is covered
here on this three hour extravaganza because the NFL is back.
We are here, all right. We've got We've got the

(13:56):
Dublin Destroyer, the North Hills Hammer. Everybody's fired up for
a foot ball season kicking off later on tonight. How
bad it? Huh? Bill does Rams? Who knows? I mean, yeah,
you know those those two way guys, I mean like that,
you know you gotta appreciate them. Yeah, in a different way.
Who hasn't seen pull fictions? All right? Uh so is

(14:22):
your eighties nineties movie reference? Like you do it all
the time. I do not. Um so many guys, Thank you, Phillip.
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LaVar Arrington and
Jonas Knocks week days at six am Eastern three am

(14:44):
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart Radio app.
You know, it's about that time that we make our
season predictions. Now, we previewed each division, we went team
by team about a month ago. But we've got to
make our official picks, our official predictions on the NFL season,
which means our division winners are wild cards, are super
Bowl picks. So we have the live studio band, the

(15:08):
NFL on Fox band was kind enough to join us
here this early in the morning. I mean, everybody's socially distance.
I mean they sound great. It sounds just like a recording.
Sometimes you go see a band, they don't sound like
they do on the recording when they do live. I mean,
this band here sounds just like they do on the recording.
So here we go. Who wants to go first? Who

(15:28):
wants to give out their picks division wild card in
the a f C and then give out their a
f C champion? Who wants to go first? All right,
I can do this. I canna throw, I can throw
my hat in the room. I'm ready to gonna start
off with the a f C because I think the
a f C is gonna be the most exciting the season.
A lot of great young talented quarterbacks being the number

(15:50):
one overall seed. It sounds a little shocky, but I
have a hard sign believe it's not gonna be the case.
The Buffalo Bills. They have a deep, talented roster, a
defense that, yes, it may have let them down and
allowed you know, Kansas City to come back in the
game at times, but you know, bottom line, as doesn't matter.
New season, new Buffalo Bills, they get the bott number
one overall seed. I at the Baltimore Ravens win the

(16:12):
a f C North, a hot contested battle with the
Cincinnati Bengals who won the a f C Championship a
year ago. But Lamar Jackson the Ravens, they don't have
any problems winning the regular season. It's just been the postseason. Uh.
Following that up, I got Kansas City winning the a
f C West. I know a lot of people are
hot on the l A Chargers. Some people think maybe
it's the Raiders who will be able to climb up

(16:33):
and win the division. I still think it's the Chiefs.
I've got to see them not do it to believe otherwise.
And then at the Colts winning the a f C
South of the addition of Matt Ryan potentially an m
VP candidate in Jonathan Taylor and really stingy defense. And
to fill out the wild card Cincinnati at the five seed.
I got Denver representing the f C West, and then

(16:54):
put my last bot in then f C the l
A Chargers, So three teams from the a f C
West kids. I do have a bullet prediction, but I'll
get to that later. In the NFC and my won
number one overall seats the Green Bay Packers, I got
them taken over obviously. The NFC North. At number two,
I got the Tampa Bay Bucks. A lot of people
are fading them, expecting the fall apart. I don't see

(17:16):
that happening. I got the l H excuse me, l
A Rams winning the NFC West, which you know that's
gonna be another very competitive division. It's hard sometimes for
this super winning teams not to get that Super Bowl hangover.
I think they'll be just fine. I got the Dallas
Cowboys winning the NFC East, Minnesota as my first wild
card team, followed by Arizona and finally the New Orleans

(17:39):
Saints to round out my playoff picture. How about that?
All right? Sticks, you ready to go? You want me
to fire off? I'm not doing all that. What do
you mean, you just like a whole lot. You just hey,
just give out a division winner, three wild cards, and
a super Bowl pick. I'm talking a lot. I don't
want to give all that analysis. I'm just gonna give
you about picks. Okay, the picks the Ravens. The Ravens

(18:01):
are going that's my team to go to the Super Bowl.
How today, I think they're going to win the a
f C North back to back years. For you, if
I'm not mistaken, I'm doubling down. I'm doubling down. You
know why they were snaked then, and I thought that
it was going to be their year to take a
step forward. Um, they got the kid out of out
of Notre Dame at the at the safety's position. I

(18:25):
think that's how hampled it. He's I think he's going
to be a fine um, a fine addition to that team.
It's the perfect team for him to have gone to.
You know. So anyway, I like, I like the Ravens
this year, Um to go. I think they're gonna win
the North. Um, I do believe that. That my wild card,

(18:45):
and I know it sounds crazy, but I think the
wild card is going to be uh the Pittsburgh Steelers
in the a f C. UM it's two wild cards, right,
three three rome cards, So I'm gonna go with the
lay Chargers on on three or number two, and that

(19:06):
I'm thinking it might be the Las Vegas Raiders that
are the third wild card. UM. I do believe that
the Kansas City Chiefs win the a f C West. UH,
but I don't. I just don't think they're the same
team that they've been in the past. So I'll be
interested to see if they're if they're is good is
advertised again, if they come on, or if if they're

(19:29):
just kind of a team that used to be the
scariest team in the National Football League. UM. As far
as with with the the a f C South, UM, yeah,
I think Tennessee is gonna win it. I think Tennessee
has the d NA. You know, they have shown that
they are the team to beat. It'll be interesting to

(19:51):
see if Malik Willis makes an appearance this year. That's
not really being discussed or talked about, and maybe it's
not something to talk about, but one way or the other,
I do think Lulie Willis is the one to take
them into the next level. Of having an opportunity to
go for being a more competitive team in the playoffs.
But I think they're gonna win that that division. I

(20:14):
think the Colts are a fine team, but I just
I'm not sold on Matt Ryan. I just got to
see him be able to do it for an entire season. Uh,
let's see the Bills. That's an easy one. That's an
easy one for mean that we can move on from that. Um.
As far as the NFC South, I'm going with I'm
I'm I'm feeling this. I've been saying. It's kind of

(20:38):
a hunch. I think New Orleans is going to get it.
I think New Orleans is gonna get the NFC South,
and in Tampa Bay will be one of those wild
card teams. So out of the NFC wild card teams
is going to be Arizona, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and

(21:01):
possibly the Minnesota Vikings. I got Green Bay winning the
NFC North. I have the Rams winning the NFC West,
and I think that's I think I think that's it.
Isn't that it? Yeah? I think that's do we need
to go? All right? So for the Super Bowl, I
think it's going to be the Ravens and a Green Bay.

(21:24):
They Ravens and Green I think the Ravens will pull
it out, and we do need your NFC East pick.
I know you're going with NFC East. I did selectively
forget about that one. It's kind of funny that everybody
is jumping off of the Dallas of bandwagon. Lay. I've
been listening to all the word we love to use,

(21:44):
all of our you know, the pundits out. I've been
telling everybody I'm not high on them, and and it's
it's definitely honestly speaking, I don't Again, I don't have
them as a wild car team. I didn't name them
as a wild car team. And they're not winning the
NFC East. I think that is going to go to
the Philadelphia Eagles. And I think that the Washington Commandos

(22:08):
will actually finished second in the NFC East. How about it?
Look at that so so basically Mike McCarthy's getting fired
according to I mean, if that's what it's going to
lead to, then then he's probably a dead man walking. Um.
So I've got uh starting in the a f C.
I got the Bills winning the East. That seems pretty easy.
I think the race for second is gonna be interesting there.

(22:28):
But I got Buffalo being the only team out of
the a f C East making the playoffs. I've got
the Chargers winning the West. I've got the Baltimore Ravens
winning the a f C North, and I've got the
Indianapolis Colts winning the a f C South. As Brady
pointed out, bold prediction on the on the Indianapolis Colts,
who are a favorite in that division, to go ahead
and take care of business there. I think Matt Ryan

(22:49):
solidifies the quarterback position and they're they're really talented. At
some point you think they would get through and at least,
you know, maybe win a playoff game here eventually. As
far as the wild card goes, I got Cincinnati, Kansas City,
and Las Vegas is my wild card teams that I mean.
I love Russell Wilson in Denver. That seems fun, but

(23:10):
something about it, I just I like what the Raiders
have done. I feel like there's a direction there that
they're heading, and I think derekr Derek Carr is gonna
have a monster year with Damante Adams. So I leaned
Raiders over Broncos. As far as picking up that final
hard spot, just spatting in they Russell Wilson. Yeah, I mean,
I'm not trying to be disrespectful here. I mean there

(23:31):
are reports that Russell Wilson is on my fantasy team.
I know you guys are asking for the show. There's
some reports about that. But in the NFC, I've got
the Dallas Cowboys winning the East. I'm come on, They're
way too much talent, way too much money invested. Figure
it out, start putting some decent games together. If you're
Dak Prescott and company, I just think they're they're the

(23:53):
most talented team in the divisions. And Philly makes it close,
but I still give the edge to Dallas there. I'm
gonna have this was winning the East. I've got the
Arizona Cardinals winning the NFC West. I think this is
a year that they make a jump. I just some
about the Rams. I don't trust some of the reports
on Stafford. There's another one that came out that we
can get into that that have popped up in the

(24:14):
Twitter feed a few moments ago. I just I don't
trust some of the reporting on this. I got the
Packers winning the NFC North. Obviously, Tampa Bay I think
is gonna win the South. There's still the best team
in that division, despite whatever Tom Brady's marital situation is,
that everybody gives a rip about. And then for my
wild card teams, I do have the Rams picking up
a wild card spot. I've also got the Saints picking

(24:36):
up a wild card spot. And maybe I'm crazy, and
maybe this shows a lot higher on the vikings than
anybody else, but I think that pairing of O'Connell and
Kirk Cousins is gonna make a lot of sense. Justin
Jefferson maybe the best yeah yeah, coach that likes him,
just trying to assault him on the sidelines. I think
so picks up the the final wild card spot there

(24:58):
in the NFC. And then my Super Bowl, I got
the Packers beating the l A Chargers. I think Justin
Herbert and company, I get all the way to the
Super Bowl, but I got green Bay winning it all
and Aaron Rodgers pissing off a lot of people. By
the way, I didn't give you my Super Bowl pick.
I've got Kansas City taken on green Bay and green
Bay winning it I think this is the green Bay's
best defense since the last time they won a Super Bowl.

(25:18):
So that's that's how I've got this whole thing playing out. Um,
but yeah, that can't wait. That would be Could you
imagine Green Bay, Kansas City and the super Bowl. It
doesn't get much better than that as far as a
rod is going for uh m v P number three.
So I've got an outside the box one. Because there's

(25:40):
some chalky picks like Josh Allen's the favorite to win it.
You could go Mahomes. I think he's gonna surprise people
this year, or Rogers, but no one's ever won it
three years in a row. I believe. I actually think
Joe Burrow. I think Joe Burrow is gonna put up
on a lot of stats this year. He's obviously gonna
be in contention for the division. I think the only
thing that worries is I've got Baltwore winning the division.

(26:02):
So could you give a guy an MVP award at
quarterback if he doesn't win the division? So stats have
to be that much better than everyone else, and I
think they will be. I'm not so sure their defense
has made the steps or strides they need to to
not put them in constant shootouts. And they've got between
Tee Higgins and Jamaar Chase and Teller Boyd. They've got
the weapons, so I I actually have a and then

(26:24):
that and his odds too are pretty favorable if you're
looking at someone outside of the Chalky three that we
all look at. By the way, Ball Washer of Green
Bay Lead the Lab was quick to point out that
Brett Farve won the MVP three years in a row
from nine seven was the three in a row and
so he was the only one then, because I was
trying to look through that, I know we've had a
lot of two in a rows. We haven't at three
in a rows. You're such a bread fave, kiss ass.

(26:46):
It's unbelievable. Hey, just you know, checking the stats, I
think he did tie one of those years though, you know,
That's what I'm saying is we haven't a winner for that.
It's so good when Lead the Lap pools it together
and gets that information out there. So by the way,
you know, he tied it with Barry Sanders, by the way,
which if you actually look at every other award that year,

(27:07):
Barry Sanders want it. There was you know, whatever else
was Sporting News or pf W a UM which the
Pro Football Writers Association it Barry Sanders wanted that year,
so no offense, I'm gonna say, I know far want
it technically, but far in the other two years he
won the m v P, won all the other awards
like Sanders did. So I'm just saying, why don't you

(27:29):
put that new cheesehead and smoke it? Huh? How does
that feel? So there it is, there's our our super
Bowl pick. So we so for the Super Bowl, we
all have green Bay. By the way, didn't far Fest
some other things to worry about right now? Hey man,
what the hell is that? But that's that's that's looking
worse and worse every week when more details come out

(27:50):
in Mississippi with the Messel state funds. Yeah, I just
felt like there's a lot of people involved. Yeah, very mean.
Now the FBI is investigating it, and I think there's
some stuff that was recorded, some some back and forth. Yeah,
it's not not looking great there, but but we do

(28:10):
all have I think, if I'm not mistake in Green Bay,
do you have green Bay winning the Super Bowl? LaVar
if Baltimore, which is my pick, makes it that far,
I just think they take that next step. Yeah. So,
so two of the three of us have green Bay
winning the Super Bowl. We we all have them going
to the Super Bowl, which means are gonna win that division.

(28:32):
No one mentioned the Miami Dolphins. I think they're a
dark horse. They're definitely a dark horse. The problem is
you're at the A s C West and I think
you're gonna have two teams maybe three in I'm eliminating
clevelandcause they're not gonna have Watson, but between Cincinnati, Baltimore,
and Pittsburgh, it's just it's stiff competition I think for

(28:54):
wild card spots. And I I guess my Bowl prediction
for the year will be this, and it is mathematically
post well. I went through this yesterday. All four teams
from the f C West make it if you If
there's a bold prediction to make, I'm gonna make that
prediction that all four teams in the a f C
West make the playoffs. Man, that would be wild yeah
and uh and there would be some rematches, I'm sure,

(29:15):
and and that would all play out, so a third
time meeting for some of those teams, So it'd be awesome.

over to Albert Breer, senior NFL reporter at the mm QB.
You can get him on Twitter at Albert Brewery's our
NFL insider, our buddy every Thursday, hangs out with us here, Albert.
What's happening? Happy opening night of football? Yeah, and they

(30:21):
thoughts and prayers to Brady for having to wear a
suit in Austin, Texas this weekend. Outside. That sounds like
no fun to me. Yeah, it's gonna be awful. I
actually I've never been a fan of these suits shorts
that have now become a popular fashion trend. I've been
lobbying our wardrobe department to let us wear suit shorts
so everything looks like normal besides Japan's which looked like shorts.

(30:45):
I don't think it's gonna work stand ups where people
would be able to tell anyway or no. Oh yeah, no, dude,
the whole first hour we're outside like doing stand ups
and all that. We're gonna be right right right at
the end of the show too, right like right before kickup,
you guys are start of standing on the field, right,
so we're down their field. I don't necessarily know if
we'll be standing or not. That all kind of pends
on it what week to week and how much room
we've got. So I'll tell you what. Things may not

(31:08):
have gone your way last week, but I think better
when Brian Kelly did. That is true, but you had
to you had to be soiling yourself at halftime, given
how that game and god was the first half. I
mean you as a buckets in all seriousness, like, ay,
our team needed to win a game like that after
the way last year went like be like, I was

(31:29):
really impressed with Marcus Freeman's composture through the game, Like
I sort of watched him on the sideline a little bit,
being in the stands. You can do that. Um, I
think you guys might have something there, Brady, Well yeah,
I mean again, we held Ryan Day to his lowest
output of his entire tenure at Ohio State. And then
on top of that, like, did you forget we're leading

(31:50):
you all at half? I mean it took a couple
of plays and we were down a few players. That
kind of impacted that game, but I didn't. We also
didn't have our best player for he got here. Here's
the thing is, you know what my theory is on
that he got knocked out. Let's be real about this.
Brandon Joseph removed his soul from Jackson Smith and Jigma's body,
and no one wants to no one wants to acknowledge

(32:11):
that because the ball spirit from dude, I mean, there
was no hamstring while he was going down. It was
the hit from Brandon Joseph that took him out of
the game. Look at halftime, you guys regrouped. You guys realized, oh,
we're in a street fight right now. We actually have
to fight back at some point and how to stay
did look give him all the credit. See, this is
why people listening on thirteen under the Zone in Austin

(32:35):
need to show up and see Brady Quinn in person,
in the flesh, because this is what you're gonna get,
all right, hard hitting football talk from Brady Quinn. He's
taking it out on you, Albert. Yeah, well, well well hey,
I mean I I'm happy for Brady and all the
moral victories. Yeah. I just hope you guys could be
Michigan because they look really good and last time I checked.

(32:55):
I mean, man, I mean they harbor last year. Here
we go, here we go. I'm just saying, I mean
it has been removed, absolutely mopped the floor. Yes, I
mean I think we got something for them too. I
mean I think that winning that game that way will
serve us well. And three months it's all says. I

(33:17):
think that didn't look the same. Man. He looked a
little after that first sack. He got hit around a
little bit, looked like he was a little, i don't know,
a little off, Albert. I wanted to ask you because obviously,
with Josh Allen and the Bills, they're the favorites to
win the Super Bowl and they're in l A taking
on the Rams tonight. You actually, and this just came
out within the last half hour or so, but you

(33:39):
did an article for Sports Illustrated talking about the moment
that Josh Allen sort of took over that it was
sort was it sort of the back to back losses
they had. They had lost in New England and then
they struggled against Tampa Bay. So what happened? Why was
that the sort of the line in the sand from
where Josh Allen went from fun loving guy to this

(34:00):
his team and his franchise moving forward. I think one
of the main reasons why. And it's really interesting because
you know a lot of those guys, um you know,
who built the Bills into what they are came from Carolina, right,
and they sort of compared it to the process that
Luke Kickley went through maybe becoming the leader of the
Panthers and and really kind of the the alpha on

(34:21):
on the team that went to the Super Bowl in
two thousand and fifteen. And you know, they had said that,
like with Luke and Carolina, it was really a process
of him becoming the leader because he didn't want to
force it and he didn't want just because he was
the middle linebacker two like, like, he didn't want it
to happen in any way that was unnatural or didn't

(34:43):
happen organically. And so as much as like the Thomas
Davis's and Charles Johnson would push him and say this
is your team now, like you go ahead, you take it,
Luke didn't want it to happen in an unnatural way.
Like he wanted to happen organically. And all those guys
you know who were in Carolina that are now in Buffalo.
So there was the same sort of thing with Josh

(35:04):
Allen where just because he was the quarterback, just because
he had the contract, um, just because he'd been to
the playoffs a couple of times early in his career,
he didn't want to force himself on the veteran players
in that team, Um, you know, the Micah Hides, the
Jordan Employers, the you know earlier in his time, the
Lorenzo Alexander's, Kyle Williams. He wanted to happen organically, and

(35:26):
you know that moment happened for him last year. They
lose that game where I mean that's insane. Wins game
on Monday night against New England didn't look very good,
and um, you know, then they come back against Tampa
and they fall behind three and Josh had his moment
at half time of that game where it wasn't just
leading by example, it was getting after guys in the

(35:48):
locker room. And then you know, their first touchdown, you know,
he has a zone read keeper where he runs it
right through the gut of the Buck's defense and like
just throws the ball as hard as he can into
the wall. And um, you know, just talking to the
guys in that locker room and that team, it was
like it was almost like the light came on. But
for Josh, it was something that happened very natural and

(36:09):
happened the way he wanted to happen. And you know,
they did lose that game to Tampa, but they came
all the way back and forced over time. Um, and
you know, you you look what happened the next two months.
They didn't lose again until that epic shootout in Kansas
City and so, um, you know it's amazing to me,
like you know, like we look at where where Josh
Allen was three years ago, and you know, you you

(36:30):
look at how far he's come and now you see
there may even be another level in him. Um, It's
it's pretty cool to watch. And you know, I know
the guys in that locker room have always loved him,
you know, because he comes off as such a normal
guy and um doesn't put himself above others or anything
like that. But to see it like sort of that
that the leadership piece of it come to life in

(36:51):
a real organic way. It was a really cool thing
and kind of drove that team down the stretch last year. Hey, Albert,
I want to ask you just about you know, some
of the more in think storylines going into Week one, Um,
we had a lot of quarterbacks playing their former teams,
lots of being made of you know, Baker Mayfield the
T shirts and taken on Cleveland who knows what to
think in regards to what's been said so far from

(37:14):
him and all that, And then Joe Flacco had taken
on the Baltimore Ravens. I guess maybe I'll start there
only because we were a little bit surprised that Zach
Wilson injury and he was like, all right, he might
start a Week one like a few days ago. Now
it's always outtill Week four, like like what do you
make of all that? I'd be at least a little concerned, Brady. Um,
you know, I but the way his knee buckled there,

(37:37):
And I'm not a doctor, so I want to preface
everything I'm saying here with that, don't worry, We're not
gonna hold you to it. And everyone else's reckless with
these sorts of regentations. I would just think, like I mean,
I think I think I was thinking when I saw
that happen, when everybody was thinking, was you see that
little jiggle in the knee is non contact and you
immediately think a c l right, And um, you know,

(37:58):
I just talked to a couple people who know about
this stuff and they were, you know, they were saying, well,
you know that that could be some level of instability
in the knee and that's something you've got to kind
of keep your eye on. And then you hear it's
a moniscus, and I mean, yeah, it was a trim
and center for a pair and a repair where to
take him out, taking him out for the season. Of
my understanding with that is that sometimes can be a

(38:19):
band aid, and so you know, you do wonder like
if they're giving him an extra three weeks. Is this
like he's going to have to be managed through the
whole year because the knee, while you know it's not
a season ending thing, is something that he doesn't have
to deal with. And then you look at his style
of play, and I think it's fair to ask those questions,
you know, like is he gonna have to adjust his

(38:40):
style of play a little bit um because of the knee.
And so, yeah, it definitely got my attention that you know,
Robert Salo was staying two days ago that it's gonna
be week one and now all of a sudden it's
week four, or it could be week one and now
all of a sudden, this week four. And you know,
I put that together with some of the things that
i've you know, just talk to people who know about
this stuff out when it comes to that particular injury.

(39:02):
And I'm not saying it's time to like, you know,
push the panic button or anything like that, but I
think it's certainly marit's watching when he comes back, both
you know, how he looks moving around and also how
they're managing it. Maybe now, when you have conversation like
this about the health of a quarterback, it takes me
into the Baltimore area and the contract negotiations with uh

(39:26):
Lamar Jackson tomorrow being apparently Lamar Jackson self imposed deadline.
How far how far apart is it? Being like, if
you have any information on that, how how far apart
are they on this? And is it is it? Um?
You know, are they Are they on the same page

(39:49):
in terms of we're not we we haven't gotten a
deal done, but there's no hard feelings or anything like
that that are are involved. I mean, I think that
this might be coming down the principle right now, to
be honest with you, UM, And I mean I can
tell you guys flat out like, I don't think the
raw money is the problem. You know, after Josh Allen
got his deal at forty three million per um last

(40:11):
year and this is I mean whatever nine months ago
now that this offer was made, um, the Ravens showed
a willingness to go to the number um that that
Josh Allen got. So I don't think rob dollars or
the issue, um, you know. And then you know, I
think you look at kind of the way that you know,
the whole issue of guaranteed contracts with quarterbacks has gone
over the last five years, Kirk Cousins gets his deal,

(40:33):
But then Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers and Jared Goff
and Carson wentz to conventional quarterback deals, and teams could
point at the Cousins deal and say that's the outlier. Um,
same thing. Now, you know what there is Shaun Watson
deal that that was done in March. Well, you know
Carr and Murray and Wilson have done deal since then.
Those are all more conventional quarterback deals. So it's easy
for teams at the point at the Watson deal and

(40:54):
say that's also an outlier. Um. These contract negotiations are
all about a player is willing us to say no.
I had a really smart executive tell me a few
years ago when he was in the quarterback negotiation, my
job isn't to pay that guy what he's worth. My
job is to find the number that he can't say
no to. And I think for the Ravens that's sort
of been the issue is these other teams have been

(41:16):
able to find this number. That all right, like, this
player is not willing to say no to this number. Um,
the Ravens haven't been able to find that number. Now,
you know, is that about the full guarantee, like I
think it absolutely could be, you know. And then you
look at Lamar's style of playing right and the way
he's been used his first four years and the pounding
he's taking, and the fact that he was off the

(41:36):
field for the first time because of injury for an
extended period of time last year, and I do think
that that complicates things. And I think, you know, Lamar
has always looked at things a little bit differently, So
it wouldn't surprise me. And I'm not climbing in it set.
It wouldn't surprise me if where some players would say
after they get hurt like that, I just need to
cash out and take what I can take, it wouldn't
surprise me if Lamar looks at that and says, well,

(42:00):
if you know I'm gonna give you guys control and
I'm going to take physical risks, then you need to
take financial risk. So if I'm gonna take the physical
risk of playing for you for the next five years,
well then you need to be responsible for all of
that financial risk on the back end. So it's a
fascinating contract negotiation from that standpoint, because I don't think
it has anything to do with the Ravens. Believing or

(42:22):
not believing in Lamar Jackson. I think, as much as
anything else, that comes down to the principle of guaranteed
contracts and what they mean. In the NFL, Albert, before
we let you go, we got about thirty seconds. You
got a Super Bowl pick for us, a f C,
NFC and who takes. Yeah, I really stuck my neck
out there and picked the Bills over the pack. Yeah,

(42:44):
I'll be honest with you. I'll be honest with you. Guys,
like they sent me the predictions grid on like the
Google sheets or whatever it is. I think it took
me about forty five seconds to fire through that thing.
I can't even remember have my other predictions, but I
do remember that I picked the Bills over the package.
I mean, only five times in the history of the
NFL is a Super Bowl favorite got on to actually

(43:05):
win the Super Bowl. So I mean, the odds are
stacked against you. It's kind of if you look at
like all like people like me, his predictions, you know,
all the different like that the pregame shows predictions, all
that different stuff. It's like, I mean, I don't know,
I can't remember the last time I saw it. Where
a team that hasn't won a Super Bowl, like was

(43:26):
so overwhelmingly picked to win the Super Bowl. So it's
a pretty unique thing. And he I know what tonight
going in they're gonna be really really good. Like I
told you guys, like I think a couple of weeks ago,
they had that look, you know what I mean, Like
the oh seven Patriots, the Seahawks before they got they
had that look and training camp when I was there.
This is gonna be a different deal for them though.

(43:46):
I mean, they're no longer the team climbing the mountain,
you know. Now they've got a target on their back
and it's gonna be interesting to see how all those
guys handle it. Get him on Twitter at Albert Brier,
Senior NFL reporter at the mm QB and a great
article up, but you can go to his Twitter at
Out of Your Bills Fan. Check it out the story
of Josh Allen how he became a leader with that team. Albert,
We appreciate it, man, We'll do it again next week. Thanks.
