Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is the best of two pros and a couple of
Joe with Lamar Areas, Rady Quinn and Jonas Knocks on
four Radio. Now we're going to get in at some
point on what happened to the Philadelphia Phillies last night.
Just not a good look to get a combined no
(00:22):
hit in a World Series game. But the good news
is is that later on tonight, the best team in
football as we stare week and nine square in the
eyes will be on center stage. The Philadelphia Eagles, your
guy the pies on passion of Nick Sirianni on full display,
and they take on the vaunted Houston Texans. So that
(00:44):
should be a fun game. What's what's the line at
right now? Are we still at fifteen? Fourteen? Fifteen? And
that in that region? Is that we're seeing on this
betting line here for the for Thursday night and a half.
If it's gotten that big, I feel a little bit
uh nervous about my pick. I picked Houston with the points,
but I think it's thirteen and a half, so in
(01:05):
in some places it's at fourteen. It opened it nine
and a half, so the fact that it swung that
high up I think it's an indication that people saw
that line and said, I'll gobble up that point spread
and a hurry on the side of Philadelphia and soil
away we go. The best football team in the NFL
on full display here. I'm looking forward to it. I'm
just trying to figure out just Houston have any shot
(01:26):
whatsoever and at least trying to make this competitive later
on tonight. I think so. I mean, look, eighty two
percent of the bets okay are on Philly, So the
public side of Philly, the sharp betters are on Houston.
At that number of thirteen and a half, I think
there's definitely a chance they cover. As far as winning,
I don't know that this NFL season has been so
(01:47):
tough to predict. I think there's one weakness about the
Eagles that kind of gets glossed over because their offense
has been so dominant. They're actually not that good against
the run if you really break it down out and
it's not that many teams said that have to have
had the chance to be able to hang with them.
Because the Eagles have been so good out the gate.
First half of games have been very good. Um, they're
(02:10):
like twenty nine in yards per tempt and stopping the run.
So if you're looking at Houston, you could say to yourself,
all right, if we can hammer away with Damian Pierce,
who's a good little rookie running back out of Florida,
there's a chance they could hang around in this game.
But I look at it and I just think there's
there's no chance the Texans can win it. It's more
about whether or not they can get any sort of
(02:32):
cover in this case, which short week, maybe Philly comes out,
Jalen Hurts doesn't play quite as well, lays an egg,
and maybe the Texans hang around for a little bit,
even though that the Eagles is gonna win. Where's Jalen
Hurts in your m v P list? As far as
we're talking, and we're later on, by the way, we're
going to get into our biggest whips at the halfway
point of the NFL season, And there's been several that
(02:53):
I am absolutely ashamed of that I had to admit
to at this point. But when it comes to the
m v P conversation, it feels lie Josh Allen had
the head start going into the season, and he would
have to have a catastrophic late season collapse. Or God
forbid an injury for anybody else to see as a
legitimate threat to Josh Allen, whether it be Jalen Hurts, Mahomes,
(03:14):
Lamar Jackson, some of the other guys that are on
that list. Yeah, I think Jalen Hurts and then and
Josh Allener are my top two. I think when you
look at like those top two teams, why they are
where they are statistically speaking, I think it's pretty fair
to compare um those two against one another. So you
thought those guys in their Patrick Mahomes in there as well.
It's kind of your typical old suspects. Derrick Henry's kind
(03:37):
of come on, you know, the way he's running football
of late. I personally put him in the conversation. I
don't think people understand how how good he is and
how we never seem to give him enough credit for
how he carries the Titans offensively. So that's kind of
the four that I'm looking at. But I don't know
Jo Smith. I mean, he should be part of the conversation.
So when he brought that up, because Gino Smith is
(03:58):
actually on this list, so it goes Josh Allen is
obviously the favorite this according to draft Kings, and then
you've got Jalen Hurt, you got my Homes, you got
Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and then you've got Justin Herbert
and Gino Smith sitting there tied at one. So am
I crazy to think Gino Smith's had a better year
or at least more consistenter than Justin Herbert. No, I
(04:21):
would definitely say. So you can even say Burrow. I
mean Burrow got off to a bad start and then
started to pick it up, and then this past Monday
night obviously struggle versus Cleveland, So um, you know I would,
I would. I would say he's played even better than
him so far. Yeah, so it's gonna be It's gonna
be fun later on tonight. Now, the good news is
for Lovey Smith, who's the head coach of the Houston Texans.
They are an atrocious football team. I mean absolutely brutal.
(04:44):
Are Are they the worst team in the NFL? Because
I'm looking at as far as worst teams in the
league right now, and it's to me it feels like
a two or three team race. Caroline is in the conversation,
but I actually think Caroline is probably better than Houston
and then you've got a couple others you could maybe
mix in there, Pittsburgh, although I think Pittsburgh's a little
bit better. So I would say Houston and Carolina are
(05:05):
the two worst teams in the NFL. So we're gonna
get the best versus the worst later on tonight. And
as you mentioned in this NFL season, if Houston, if
Houston wins this game, what the F man? I give up?
I like, I'm not gonna stop watching football, but I'll
never make another NFL bet the rest of my life.
That's that's the biggest. Yeah, And then there's been several
(05:28):
but it just feels like I don't see how this
is at all the competitive games. So this do you
think Kirk herb Street and Al Michaels realized the matchup
and go all right, we're gonna have to really go
into our bag here later in the later in the
game to try and get stuff to talk about that.
They've definitely got blow out material. I'm sure they're gonna
(05:50):
segue in some material on the Phillies and Philadelphia and
just the World Series and everything else. Trust me that
there's a lot. You know, they're even probably gonna go
into the conversation. We just said, talk about m v P,
talk about Jalen hurts Um. You know that they might
talk about some things with the Houston Texans, more on
death why they're so bad. But the thing I don't
like about you know when look, I love al Michael's call,
(06:13):
I hate the fact that he acts like he's above
Thursday Night football, like he's above this, like he just
serves to have better games. It's like, no, dude, it's
first off, I'm glad we're highlighting the NFL on Thursday Night.
I was saying this to you yesterday. We have football
every single day, I believe, if I'm not mistaken, all
(06:33):
the way through Thanksgiving. Right now, Wednday Night football, maction
on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in college ball, Thursday night football,
Friday night. Now we'll get some college games sprinkled in
Saturday Sunday. It's the greatest time of year in my opinion.
And yet we get Al Michaels, who, just because he's gotta,
you know, call some blowouts on Thursday Night, has to
(06:54):
act like he's above it. It's like, come on, why
you got to take out Al Michaels, you know, because
because here's Here's what I'd say is if the game
is not entertaining, don't be less entertaining than the game,
then did you be the entertaining pours? If it's a
blowout and you're upset about it, you don't need to
sound like a grumpy old man out there. Thank you, Al.
Al getting up this early to join the show on
(07:15):
a game day, I think it's pretty impressive on his part.
I don't know why Brady's got to air you out
like this, Al, I would just like to say this.
I feel like maybe al Michael's is a little bit
frustrated because he's not given the credit where credit is due.
Before gambling got popular, al Michael was mentioning gambling spreads
during live games before anybody and there's listen. He sounds
like the way he talks like somebody who might get
(07:37):
down on a better too. I'm not saying I don't
know al Michael's never met him, but he sounds like
a guy who might get down on a better two.
And he probably looks around and says all you newbies, like,
now you want to talk gambling. I was trying to
talk about this stuff when it wasn't cool and so
now he's gone the other way. It's like when your
favorite band becomes popular and you don't like him as
much because now everybody knows about him. I feel like
(07:57):
maybe that's where Al Michael's is a little bit frustrated.
Michaels too much credit. I know Brent Musberger was a
big one in that too. I mean, hence the reason
why he left ESPN ultimately went to UH was a visa.
I mean, you're giving out Michaels a lot of credit.
He exactly like how he would talk about it. He
talked about the fact that he would open every single
(08:20):
game that way because he wanted to give better is
a live look at the weather, and that was part
of part of the equation of how you'd go about
deciding who you wanted to bet on. Like that was
part of his strategy, was, Hey, we got to talk
about the weather, we have to talk about any potential injuries.
Like he had it all dialed up because he knew
what the betting public was looking for. I give Brent
(08:41):
Musburger a lot more credit now Michaels. Michaels is just
throwing a few you know, lines here there, and um,
you know how Michaels doesn't eat vegetables like he only
eats steak, literally, like that's his diet. Every single day
he has steak. It doesn't like no vegetables, no, not
like he was carnivore before carnival are way before it
(09:01):
became basically pretty much. And listen, has he lost his
fastball on the call? As for I haven't noticed any
dip in his foot horn, So I mean maybe that's
a testament. So for all you people out there that
when of you know, glue yourselves to a basketball court
for animal rights, turn on Thursday night football and have
(09:22):
yourself a t bone? What's the last time you steak?
Every weekend? Come on every weekend? I grew up. I
don't know about that. What are you talking about? You? Yeah,
go to the supermarket here. You don't seem like a
big red meat guy. You know what, there's an appetite
for everything at some point in life, and I like
to get down on a on a steak. You go
(09:43):
to the supermarket and get him for like you can
get a nice ribby for like seven pound. You know,
why are you telling me this? Like I don't go
to the supermarket by my own meeting well, I'm just saying,
like you you seem like more of a Mastros guy,
because I know like you have a table, like a
section kind of set aside four Lauderdale for Master. I've
never been Mastros. I'm not familiar with what they do there.
Problem I will alchem, I will out you with talking
(10:05):
about because you send me pictures when you get a
Mastross at every time that is taken for with the
with the little what do you call the last, yeah,
a little coasters, a little with the Masters logo. Well,
sit there and send photos every single time that was
a doctored photo that was taken from the internet. I'm
(10:26):
not going to be held accountable for my behavior there.
I would like to point this out though, if your
Loveing Smith, you know, it's great about being the head
coach of the Texans. After all that they've gone through,
he's never got to worry about job security for like
at least another year because there's no chance he gets
clipped at the end of the season, not even a
shot in hell that he's out as head coach of
the Houston Texans. So they can go out tonight and
(10:48):
get sought off by Philadelphia and it's not gonna matter.
Can you do that? Can you look up what it's
going to cost to go to that game? I can't imagine.
I can't imagine it's gonna cost that much. And by
the way, you've only talked about it from one side.
As far as the Phillies, you know, you know the
Phillies and Houston obviously playing the World Series. You got
(11:09):
the Houston Texas take on the Eagles, Like, there's not
a chance. Houston fans are looking at this thinking we
can get a win and we're gonna win the World Series.
They're just thinking, all right, I might go for a
little entertainment tonight, but there's no chance that Texas are
gonna win this game. By the way, I lead to
lab Our executive producers on and he said, thirty three
dollars on one ticket outlet you can get into the
(11:30):
game for which, let me tell you something. You you
walk anywhere near the stadium about fifteen minutes before the
game five five bucks, like they'll pay you twenty and
buy you a case of beer just to go and
sit in the stadium so they don't have to see
a bunch of empty seats there. Like this is there's
no shot in hell, anybody's paying full price the whole
(11:53):
way through it to get into this game. And to
your point, if you've got the World Series going on,
I'll be fascinated to know what the numbers are head
to head Philly Houston in the World Series, both in
the markets and then nationally. Like I know, I listen.
Foxes coverage is phenomenal, Joe Davis, John Smoltz, they do
a phenomenal job. But you're going up against the NFL,
(12:14):
and I'm just curious to see how this plays out
later on tonight, especially in both those markets when they
got to make tough decisions here, Like if you're a
Houston Astros fan and you're seeing what happened last night,
do you really want to sit through some halfass Houston
Texans game against the Eagles or do you want to
watch your World Series? Well, it really depends upon if
they can stream it or not. Yeah, that's that's a
(12:36):
good point. That's kind of the greater issue here. Yeah,
and will they be able to find it? Like will
they be able to sign up for Amazon? Yeah? I
think people are in the thirty day trial run is over,
so now people are just stuck with well, those ratings
have dwindled mightily, something someone blamed on the matchups, but
I think there's also been a well since people haven't
(12:56):
been signing up for it, maybe it's not as Yeah,
it's probably probably overestimated themselves over their skis. As some
people would say, if you're a resort fan, if you
go skiing, I'm not really a ski guy. Again, no masters,
no skiing for me. But if you know, that is
a terminology that some people use here. So congratulations to
Amazon Prime. You got people in to get two day
free delivery for the holidays, and now they can watch
(13:19):
some bad football, uh and with some broadcasters and maybe
don't really want to be there. So listen. I think
it's a win for everybody, all right, It is two
pros and a cup of Joe here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaking of wins, the Breeders Cup the World Championships are
coming to Iconic Keenlan tomorrow and Saturday, November four and fifth.
Don't miss the world's best thoroughbred's race for their share
(13:41):
of thirty one million dollars in purses and awards. Visit
Breeders Cup dot com to watch all the action live
On November fourth and fifth, and you can listen to
this show as Brady and I will be live track
side at Keenland getting like we're gonna be able to
see like which horses are are working out in a
certain way before the ace, Like which why why wouldn't
(14:04):
I listen? Let let me tell you something. If they're
if they're lucky enough, I might run my fingernails down
their back, you know, just to see, like, hey, I'm
right over here, you know, just to see how they respond. Listen.
There's I'll get exotic on their ass if I have to.
I'm here to win a couple of bets. I'm here
to make some people some money, and who knows, maybe
live bet Jesus will grace us with his presence at
some point before the race. So there it is. No
(14:27):
I will not repeat that on the air. Bert, Oh,
thank you though, thank We appreciate it like our jobs too.
Un that's Tijuana, right, there's something you'd find there ahead.
Phil Brady in on the UH commentary, unbelievable, Like what
it sounds like if people knew what we have to
(14:48):
go through while doing this show. It's it's like the
people behind the basket when you're shooting a free throw
late in the game, and they're trying to distract you
as it airs on a state where the guy gets
in a speedo and then comes out from the curtain.
At Arizona State, that's basically perdo except there's no speedo's.
People don't try to do that. Yeah, I thought that
was a great, great strategy, very distracting. Covid ruined it
(15:11):
for everybody. You know, it's just now everyone's terrified. You know,
you're just not quite sure depending on It's just you know,
like germs, and you know, now people are all worried
about stuff, like, you know, he's got a man hammock
on and his mask is below his nose. Can we
really trust this guy? There's just a lot going on there.
I think Michael Phelps did it at one point as
(15:31):
well too. You had like his his swim hat on
and his goggles and all that. So it's unfortunate, but
basketball seasons right around the corner, and the in college hoops,
and who knows, we will get some more speedos behind
the basket there at Arizona State. Be sure to catch
live editions of Two Pros and a Cup of Joe
with Brady Quinn LaVar Arrington and Jonas Knocks week days
(15:52):
at six am easting three am Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio. What is the this
latest story, this latest angle, this latest saga on Little
Danny Snyder and the Washington Commandos. So the story comes
out yesterday that uh, Washington, Dan, the snyders have hired
(16:16):
b of A Securities, Bank of America Securities to explore
potential transactions. They didn't say if it was for the
sale of the team or for minority investors. And then this,
of course on the same day as there's uh now
another probe from Congress that's going on about what is
it like, you know, financial improprieties or something like that,
going what the hell? What is the Is this all
(16:37):
just some some sort of troll job by Dan Snyder
saying I'm still not selling the team, but I'll make
people think I am uh And I'm not going to
specify what involvement this, you know, the new owners would
have in this or new investors would have in this.
The hell is happening with Washington, Dan Snyder in this
whole chaos? Well, the US, it's sorta in general. In
Virginia has opened a criminal investigation into the Commanders, and uh,
(17:00):
that could get dicey. I mean, when you're talking about
a criminal investigation, you're talking about clink. Yeah, that jail
cell locking and maybe going away for a period of time.
And so I think there's two things that play. I
think there's that and at this point there's either something
that's been found or he's been made aware of something
where he's had to change his tune where he at
(17:21):
one point was his adamant that he wasn't gonna sell
the team, very similar to how he was adamant he
wasn't gonna, you know, move on from changing the team
name for a while and then that changed eventually came
to the Commanders even though the XFL has the Defenders
and it sounds that much better anyway, It's just kind
of funny that they're like, oh, what do we think
(17:41):
when it's the most obvious thing in the world. He's like,
your your your owner. He needs constant legal defense, Like
why couldn't you guys just be called the Defenders. It
makes all the sense in the world. And by the way,
it makes all the sense when you factor in the
fact that over the past couple of years they've done
everything they can to build up that front. Seven. Uh,
they were you know, potential Chase Young all those guys
(18:02):
there and then maybe back this week. But yeah, and
then they go commanders. You know, feels a little bit off,
but yeah, a little off. But you know, the U. S.
Attorney General is is UH is opening a criminal investigation.
That's probably gonna motivate a lot of people. If you're
in a position where you know you're in control, you
could end up being the guy who's on the chopping block.
(18:22):
You might be saying, Okay, how do I get rid
of this? Maybe it's almost part of the less punishment.
Maybe there's not as much that the U. S. Attorney
General could do in this case. And then the other
thing is they're looking to build a new stadium, and
I think what's happening politically at least the d C area,
and I know we've joked about RFK. It looks like
(18:42):
they might be looking at that particular site though to
do the new stadium. And if they wanted to do that,
then they would need help or government funding to do so,
and it sounds like they're not going to receive any
of those funds. Tax abatements, what have you, unless Dan
Schneider sells the team. So I actually think this is
him trying to sell the team. I don't think he's
(19:03):
pushing to have them such as the minority steak. I
think it's it's actually, you know, looking at him trying
to sell the team. And if he's smart, what they
would do is then lockdown the site and make sure
everything's all set to build that new stadium, which only
adds more value to the franchise. And so if he
does have to get rid of it, at least he's
(19:23):
getting rid of it at a time where he's gonna
make the most out of it by having that site
locked down. But that's probably gonna come lockstep with him
having to step down as their owner. Have you seen
the images of RFK recently? So they did a Football
Life documentary on NFL Network and it was on Joe Thiseman,
your buddy Joe These and he was talking with Lawrence
(19:45):
Taylor obviously you know, the broken leg and all that,
and they were walking through RFK as it is in
present day. What a dumb Oh my god, I'm supposed
there's not like wild animals like you know, walking through
that It's like something you would see in like Jurassic Park,
like weeds growing everywhere, completely destroyed. So if they can
(20:07):
bring that back, and I would assume based on their
inability to you know, have you know, full capacity and
they're you know, reducing of seats in their current where
it was at FedEx Field, I would assume would be
something that would be a little bit more doable as
far as capacity to try and get people in or
who knows, maybe Dan Snyder being gone would make people
(20:27):
want to actually come at the games again, Like maybe
that would actually get people fired up because there were
well there's that, but it's just there. I'm so tired
of the Is Dan Snyder going to sell the team?
I'm just so tired of it at this point. Either
take a dump or get off the pot. Figure it out.
(20:48):
If he's gone, he's gone, Somebody make a move. I'm
just tired of hearing these stories. It's exhausting. Man, this
has been going on for years. It's exhausting. Every time
there's another story, there's something else that comes out. We
all know the guy has done some shady things. He's
probably not the best guy in the world. And when
you're hiding out on a yacht in Europe because you
don't want to You're trying to avoid a subpoena. That
(21:10):
might be an indicator that maybe there's something else going
on here. So just figure it out, move on in
another direction, and let's go. I don't know, I don't
understand what the problem is. I do. I do think
Dan Snyder does deserve a little bit of credit though,
And I know people are gonna like this right for what?
So you remember when that story came out about Dan
(21:30):
Snyder and and ESPN dropped that bombshell about you know,
Dan Snyder's got dirt and he's hired these private investigators
and he's done all this, and it came out on
a Thursday morning, and it was the Thursday morning of
their game at the Bears. Since that report came out,
they're undefeated. I blame ESPN for the Washington Commandos rallying
(21:52):
around their owner and winning three straight games against the
vaunted Bears, Packers, and Colts of the NFL. Do you
think it's that or do you think maybe those teams
are taking a die? Because Snyder has presented that this
might be a conspiracy theory. But Snyder's presented him with
all the digging around he did as he sent out
all his private investigators, all those guys with big trench
(22:15):
coats and the classes with the fake nose and mustache disguise.
I mean, I'm just saying, you know, yesepers, you know ESPN,
who thinks they've got everybody's best interest in mind. All
the time Washington was Washington was sitting at one and four,
ESPN decides to drop this big bombshell report, this manifesto
of all these bad things that have gone on in
(22:36):
d C with with Dan Snyder. And next thing you know,
the team goes out and wins three straight with their
backup quarterback. Yeah. Let me look, I'm just saying that
it's outside the realm of possibility. Maybe those teams now
know that Dan Snyder's got some dirt and they've got
to take some dives. So you think it is funny
that they beat Jimmer Santa Cults too. That is that
(22:59):
is got it funny now that we think about it,
because Jim Mercy was one of the guys who came
out strong, so always always fun to talk Danny Snyder
just somebody figured out all right, and we would think
Bezos the betting favorite to be the majority owner of
the new team. He's flush with cash. I mean, I
think that would be the easy one to point to.
You know, does he does he want to do that? Um,
(23:22):
you know who's he gonna points ultimately run it. That's
someone who's got He's so rich and they have so
many different things going on. Is he outside just showing
up at games? Does he really have any involvement? But
he would be probably one of the top of the list.
Do you think that if Bezos bought the Commanders that
instead of having like a blimp fly overhead and he'd
(23:44):
have the crank shuttle? I mean, can that get can
that thing get sideways? Would he would watch like five
seconds of the game for the crank shot as it
flies over, like like, could you have like a crank
shuttle just in neutral just sort of kind of floating there,
you know, like more like a pontoon boat. I mean,
you know, he's got the speedboat to get up into space,
but why not look more of a pontoon boat to
(24:04):
where it just kind of sits on its side and people,
can you know, kind of get a view from the
crank shuttle of the game that's taken place underneath. I
don't know why it has to be the crank Shuttle,
because that's what he does. I mean that he sends
people to space in this thing. So if you really
want to make this about your brand, I think you've
got to introduce the NFL to what it is that
you're flying people up into space, or that would be
(24:25):
interesting if that was part of the trip. Like hey,
during this crank shuttle, you know exhibition, if you will,
you will actually be flying over the team that I
own while the game is playing. He has Sunday ticket
on in case, you know, the visibility is bad that day.
They've got Sunday ticket on the crank Shuttle and they'll
be able to watch Washington play. All right, that's good, alright,
(24:45):
so congratulations. Although I do feel like if Bezos gets
it and it's a team in the DC area, I mean,
he's already got a ton of political influence, Like he
will be rolling through politicians time after time. It's basically
the beginning of him to over the world, which I
know that's already started. Yeah yeah, I mean listen to
Amazon Prime. I mean look at it. Look at what
(25:06):
he was on Primary they own Whole Foods. Yeah. I
mean they're they're owning the groceries that a lot of
people are buying. Does he own Whole food Yeah, Amazon,
Butthole Foods. Jesus, you didn't know that. Oh, he's trying
to control everything. That's why I built the crank Shuttle.
He's eventually he's gonna be taking us to space all
the time. Good God, man, it is crank Shuttle, Whole
Foods field coming to a commando fan. You look at that.

Are the Miami Dolphins and Bradley Chubb on that five
year deal? Yeah, you know it's UM. I think it's
an interesting signal for Miami to its locker room and
you know, just how in they are in the group
of players they have right now, and UM, you know
(26:35):
I I sort of like, look at where they are,
and it's it's taking advantage of the window you have
while you've got a quarterback on a rookie contract, and UM,
you know I think it's also a validation that they believe,
you know, what they've seen over the first half of
the season is very real in the times now. So UM,
imagine for guys like Tyreek kill and to a tongue
(26:57):
of Balowah, and you know, defensive side guys like Saving Houred. Um,
it's a nice jolt of energy going into week nine.
There's no doubt about it. But I guess I'll ask
you this, did you think I mean, just with everything
you had heard and talked about. UM, for the other side,
of that trade for Miami Dolphins trade, where're getting Bradley
Chubb on one side? What is that signaling with Denver?
(27:19):
Because I'm looking at him and and I think the
question was asked, you know, if there were five and three,
are they making that trade? And I think Mike Cliffs,
who follows the team out there, said said no, they're
probably not. And I'm going, all right, well there are
three and five. You're not that far out of in
the FC West right now, Like, how do you view
that that side of that trade? I mean, Brady, I
think it's well, hey, it's an acknowledgement that they probably
(27:40):
weren't getting a long term contract done. And you know,
my understanding is they didn't get very far in talks.
So that tells me that the team viewed his value
in one place and the player viewed his value in
another place. Now, this isn't like, this isn't a deal
like Nick bos is gonna get or the deal that t. J.
Watt got. You know, um, it's not that. So you know,
(28:02):
clearly Denver thought this wasn't a guy you can build
a defense around, right, So that's one piece of it.
But you're right, like the second piece of it is
definitely if you know, right now you're five and three
or six and two, you're not offloading a piece like this,
you know. And so I think it's you know, maybe
an acknowledgement going the other way, um, for for Denver
(28:25):
here and that you know, we thought we were closer
than we are. It's gonna take longer to get Russell
Wilson acclimated to what we want to do than we thought. Um,
you know, I think all of those things are sort
of in play here. Um, it hasn't looked great on offense.
That the interesting part about it is their defense has
been really good, you know, and this is sort of
taking a chunk out of that. So, UM, I think
(28:48):
it puts another challenge in the player Nathaniel Hackett and
his staff, you know, as they try to keep that
team engaged and and coming off what I think was
a pretty significant wind going into Thereby Albert Brier joining
us here on Ox Sports Radio, you can get him
on Twitter at Albert Brier, Senior NFL reporter at the MMQB.
All right, so I want to ask you this because
you were talking about Sean mcveigh's future and that it
(29:11):
may be tied into a couple of things that are
currently going on with the roster. What can you tell us? Yeah,
that thing's fun, a little out of control. To be
honest with you, I don't know if I mean, I
don't know. And I felt horrible because you know, obviously
it's a tough time first family. I I honestly like
I've been saying that for four months. Um, you know,
I did a story with him in in the summer,
(29:32):
and you know, it's been my feeling for a while
that that really like his future sort of tied to
the futures of like a small core there that they
feel like it's a really special core players and Matthew
Stafford and Cooper Cup and um, you know, and and
and Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey and like that, I
(29:52):
felt like, you know, like Sean's shelf life with Los
Angeles is um tied to the shelf life of those
four players, and once that corp has gone, he's probably
gonna be taking a break too. And I've answered that
question the same way for four months for some reason,
you know, I say it on Rich eiz and Show
yesterday and Dan Patrick's show because it came up in
(30:14):
relation to the trade deadline, like why would the Rams
make a monster offer for Brian Burns And then you know,
a couple of like the robots, Uster or whatever pick
it up and all hell breaks loose. So I mean
it's not new news. It's something I've been saying for
a while now. Um, but it did spend a little
out of control. But it I mean, look like that's
the way I see it, you know what I mean, Like,
(30:35):
that's that's sort of um, you know, just I guess
my informed opinion on on the way this is gonna go.
And um, you know, I I really do think that
you know, those five guys McVeigh and the four players
are are very much tied together, and um, one couple gone,
there's a good So I guess I'll follow up ask
(30:58):
you this, Albert, like what the shelf life? I mean,
do you think after this season, after next season he
could get burnt out and say, all right, maybe I'll
go back that TV offer. Yeah, I mean I think,
like I would say, somewhere in the next five years. Um,
I'd say, I mean it could be one or two years,
it could be five, you know. I I really think
(31:19):
like they're I mean, look like I mean, he works
his ass off and still you know what I mean,
like even with the championship and everything that's come with it,
Like he runs at a hundred miles an hour, and
I think he's worked really hard to kind of paste
himself and um and kind of pride to you know,
give himself some balance in his life. But I think
(31:41):
there's that part of him that doesn't have an off switch,
you know. And I mean, look like television for a
guy like that, I mean we're talking million dollars a year,
you know, the the chance to do that and um
and and and take your foot off the accelerator for
a couple of years and you know, maybe starting a family.
Who knows, you know, like that sort of stuff couldn't
(32:01):
could be enticing, you know. And so I think it
will come to that point where you know, he wants
to take a break and reset. And I mean, God,
can you imagine the bidding war if he took a
couple of years off and then be back. I mean,
that's the thing about it, guys, you know what I
mean like is you know he's in it, and I
know he loves that group of players that he has,
(32:22):
that that core group he loves those guys. Um, you know,
but once those guys are gone, like you can understand
where like it would be very enticing the idea of hey,
I'm gonna take a little break, I'm gonna go into TV. Um.
You know, I'm gonna like kind of focus on my wife,
my family and everything else, you know, and then a
couple of years down the line, there's gonna be an
(32:45):
absolute bidding war for my services. I'm gonna be able
to pick my spot, I'm gonna be able to pick
who comes with me, all that different stuff. You can
see why that would be very very attractive. Albert brier
with us here on Fox Sports Radio again. Get him
on Twitter at Albert brier Um. Was there a move
or I'll just ask this the move at the trade
deadline that surprised you the most that he didn't see happening? Uh,
(33:11):
I mean, Chubb, I saw Colfing. I think everybody saw
ju coming to some degree. Um. You know, I'm just
trying to think what was really like if there was
a stunner. I don't know. Calvin Ridley, Yeah, Calvin Ridley
would be the one. Calvin Ridley would be the ones
just because I do think that one. There's so many
(33:31):
conditions on that trade, and I don't know how closely
you guys looked at the comp there, but it was
a pick this year that could be a five or six,
and there's a pick next year in twenty four, I
mean four that could be a two or three or four,
and Ridley would be the one that I just I
figured they'd probably wait till the off season to move him. Um. Now,
(33:56):
I can understand why Jacksonville did this because I think
the guy he's twenty nine years old, so he's not
that young. But I think a flashed where like he
could be a number one receiver and you're giving Trevor
Lawrence like that sort of weapon. Um, you know, makes
sense to me and why you'd want to maybe get
it done now so you can come up with the
plan and hit the ground running, assuming he's reinstated after
(34:19):
the season ends. But yeah, I would say, like my
expectation was Ridley would eventually be moved and he wouldn't
be on the Falcons roster. I just I would have
thought it would have probably happened in March rather than
than October. And can let me just ask you real quick, um,
because I don't know where I saw this, but is
it true that also part of the conditional second pick
that the Jags got or that the Atlanta Falcons got,
(34:42):
would turn into a first round pick if Calvin Ridley
hit on his next seven team parlay? Is that true?
Or is that is that just part of the speculation
I saw out there? You're gonna I mean, is this
tie into some of those imaginary numbers every week? Well,
we'll get to that. I mean, look, you know how
he finished this off every week. I'm just that just
curious how this works. Yeah, yeah, I I I would
(35:03):
say that Calvin Ridley is gonna have to stay out
of those sorts of establishments for a little while. There's
not a concern of him being reinstated, right like he's
going to be reinstated after the season, it would appear. Yeah,
I Mean, it's one of those things where you where, um,
you know, I think it's similar to like a drug dispension,
you know, like where it's like you get a number
(35:25):
of games and then it's you have to complete X,
Y and Z and I'm like there there's counseling involved
in all that sort of stuff, right Like, where as
long as you complete X, Y, and Z, and you've
kept yourself away from certain things. Um, you're you're going
to be reinstated, So yes, I would say, you know,
(35:46):
it's it's very similar to a drug suspension that way,
and my, my, my feeling is that he probably he's
probably gonna be reinstated without I want to go back
to l A for a second though, only because what
the hell is happening with cam A? Thank you? I mean,
what happened? Why was there a ready disgruntled like what
is going on there? You know? I think that there's
(36:09):
a couple of things that worked there. It's well not
number one, like he hustled back from the injury last year,
and I think, by all accounts look better than anybody
thought he would early in the playoffs at least maybe
not we got later in the playoffs, but that Arizona
game looked really good. Coming back from an achilles in
season is tough. UM. I think that there was like
an issue over the summer justin maybe how he was
(36:31):
seeing it and um like how his performance um wasn't
matching his potential and I think they pushed him a
little bit, and like it just feels to me like
things got sideways a little bit there. Um. I think
one of the things that's sort of interesting about cam
Akers that plays into all this is and you never
(36:52):
you almost never hear running back her like like called raw.
But you know, if you talk to the RAMS people
and even people come when he was coming out of
four of the state um that had scottered him, they
tell you he was sort of raws and running back
because I believe he was a quarterback in high school, right,
and so like his vision had to come along and
how he saw the whole and how quickly he hit
(37:14):
the whole. He had developed that stuff even coming into
the NFL, even after playing the position at Florida State,
and you know, like I think that was still sort
of a that's still sort of been a problem with them,
and that's been something that they've coached him hard on.
And I think like some of that stuff, um, when
he's coming back off the Achilles and trying to become
(37:34):
the workhorse guy again was part of the issue. And
then you know, I think playing time comes into it
as a result of all that. Albert Brier last one
for you before we let you go here. You can
obviously get him on Twitter at Albert Brier. So I
was just you know, kind of crunching the numbers here
a little bit, and I was looking ahead to just
kind of picked a random football game through a darted
(37:56):
a board in Ohio state, you know, Ohio State. Northwestern
came up, and I was just serious, Albert, just in
your opinion is, as somebody who is in a lumb
of Ohio State, do you believe that they will be
thirty eight and a half points better than Northwestern this weekend? Well,
as you've seen, like Ryan Day is a great sportsman,
so he takes starters out later in the game. So
(38:17):
I think that that number, like they could exceed that
number like through three quarters, saying I don't know if
their imaginary numbers tied to that or even in the half. Um,
they may get over whatever imaginary number you might have
for that. There might be a little bit more because
the great sportsmanship of my university. Do you think it's that?
(38:38):
Or Albert, what about back to back weeks on the road.
And then also let's not forget it's in Evanston and
today that is a if we actually gets other other
things go on. Um, but this is eleven and am
local kick that's a pretty early start for the buck guys.
(38:58):
And that's a sleep environment there in Yield. Oh yeah,
I'm just saying it is, but it is. But you
know what, I went to Ohio State Northwestern I think
it was, Yeah, I went. I I went with a
bunch of my buddies. We did a Chicago trip, so
I want with my bunch of my buddies to that.
And I'm telling you, like Brady, it's a sleepy environment normally,
(39:22):
but when Ohio States, I mean, it was like a
home game, like literally a home game. So I would
assume that this place is going to be probably pretty
too step with the amount of people that went to
Ohio State who live in Chicago. How do you feel
about the current college football rankings. I know it's a
little outside of run, but Ohio States, I mean, I honestly,
(39:44):
I I I guess it doesn't really matter, but I think,
like the I I'm not sure, I'm not sure George
is getting enough respect guys like I don't know, they
won the national championship last year and they haven't lost yet,
and they've been impressed in spot now. I know they
haven't been perfect, but I just sometimes I wonder like
(40:07):
a school like that, or like Ohio State a few
years ago in nineteen when when Ohio State was really good,
you know, with with with Fields and Chase Young and
out and all those guys. Like sometimes I feel like
Alabama gets a certain level of respect that other schools don't.
And maybe that's not true this year, but like, doesn't
Georgia deserve a little benefit of the doubt for having
(40:30):
won the championship last year? I don't know, Am I
wrong to think that way? Well? And also the Oregon
win looks better and better each week when I mean
it's it's I mean, it just seems like these rankings
have I guess it's just like it's a recency bias
almost to like the last couple of weeks, you know
what I mean, Like, Yeah, Tennessee looked great against Kentucky,
(40:54):
But on balance, is their resume that much better than Georgia's?
I don't know, you oh, like I And and then
you know, like I, there's the whole thing, which I
think track record over the years does matter, you know,
and Georgia Georgie. I think Georgie is gonna beat Tennessee
this weekend, and it's probably because George has been good
(41:15):
longer than Tennessee. But I do think that that counts
for something, right, Like I think that there's a credibility
thing that you get from having established yourself over the years,
and I it just feels to me for some reason
like George is not getting that. Am I wrong? Brady?
You follow this stuff closer than I do, so I
don't know if I'm wrong about that or not. But no,
I mean, look, I think Tennessee has the best win
(41:35):
of the season, and that's what ultimately they're looking at saying,
you know, they went and beat Bama, who at the
time I believe was what one or two whatever they
had him ranked out of the people. But that was
the best win, and so they're giving them credit for that.
But look, at some point our show we have more time,
I'm gonna break this down a little bit of Jonas
because I think there's a conspiracy theory behind us. I'll
(41:57):
just I'll put it out there, like, yeah, who's her
number one? Um? Right now, I think I had Ohio
State and I had Tennessee it too, O God, Okay,
I mean, obviously it'll all work itself out. Like lever
One's a Big Ten is going or every one's the
SEC is going. So that's what I when I say
it doesn't matter, I mean maybe maybe it matter. Maybe
(42:21):
maybe you know what it matters. It probably matters as
far as getting a second Big ten team or a team, right,
that's probably why it matters. That's why, Yeah listen. Get
him on Twitter at Albert Brier, senior NFL reporter at
the MMQB Albert. We always appreciate it, man, Thanks so much.
We'll do it again next week. Have a good one.
