Speaker 1 (00:02):
Is the best of two pros and a couple Joe
with Lamar Airings rating Win and Jonas Knox on radio.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
And now we get to find out how the rest
of the big birthday bash went for the one and
only Leaverrington.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
I'm tired, that's all I love to tell you. But
I'm here here, and let's do it. Yeah, let's let's
give the people a show. Yeah, we'll do the best
we can.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah, we we will definitely try because thankfully, uh, the
NFL decided, you know what, We're gonna throw you guys
at bone. I know we're gonna go ahead. We're still
waiting to find out exactly what the full details are
on Malik Beasley and whether or not he's just a degenerate,
flunky gambler who pissed away his entire career because he's

(00:58):
betting props on his own point total, rebounds or assists.
But nonetheless the end NFL decided to step up and say,
you know what, here we go. Here's a little something
for you, and that little something is a big one.
We've got a trade. The Dolphins traded cornerback Jalen Ramsey

(01:19):
Titan end John Newsmith to the Pittsburgh Steelers for safety
Minka Fitzpatrick and a pick swap. Yeah, I got news
for you. The Dolphins this year ain't gonna sound nothing
like that. No, they will not. There would be no
no Dolphins sounds this year. The answer would would insult Peta.

(01:43):
But I look at this and I go. We've heard
speculation about whether or not the Steeler or the Dolphins
were going to trade Jalen Ramsey. That's been rumored about,
It's been whispered about. There's been discussions about it. You know,
Chris Greer, their GM talked about it. A clearly had
run its course there for whatever reason, and so now

(02:04):
he ends up in Pittsburgh. There is some speculation that
he might even switch to safety. And I don't know
about you, but if you add that along with John
new Smith, who's coming off the best season of his
career and for some reason they couldn't get a restructuring
done on his deal, all of a sudden, the Steelers
add a couple of new pieces, and the feeling on

(02:25):
Mika Fitzpatrick was he was starting to slip a little
bit in his play. So if you can add Jalen
Ramsey and John hu Smith to this offseason and what
the Steelers have already done. I love this for Pittsburgh.
I think it's a great move.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
So you feel as though it's justifiable to just throw
it out there that Menca Fitzpatrick's play has been slipping.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
There's been some speculation about that speculation.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
I mean, I don't know, man if if almost getting
a hunt, your at tackles and in the season as
a safety in the Pittsburgh Steelers defense is slipping when
I mean in twenty one he had one hundred and
twenty twenty one, he had one hundred and twenty four.

(03:15):
Combined that tackles and his stats, it was statistically speaking,
it was his best his best season, but it's not
far off. It's not far off from what his stats
were this past year. And listen, if we're talking, first
of all, it's not apples to apples in terms of

(03:36):
a comparison because you're talking about a corner and you're
talking about a safety. Now, if you think that and
I heard you mentioned Jayalen Ramsey may move the safety,
and that has happened. We've seen We've seen Cornell Lake
moved to safety. We've seen Rob Woodson moved to safety.
We Charles Woodson moved to safety, like we've seen some

(03:59):
really really find football players go from playing corner to
moving to safety. Is Jalen Ramsey, is he in a
space in time for him we're moving making a move
to safety? Is at that time? First of all, meaning

(04:19):
has he has his ability to cover as a corner
maybe gotten to the point of where he should think
about being a safety and covering more space and not
having to cover corner or excuse me, receivers man and man.
Now now his responsibilities and his duties would be more

(04:42):
specified to covering tight ends like bigger guys, you know,
not not not so much the smaller guys, but play
over top defense. But he's also someone that you would
need in the run. And that's that's why the amount
of tackles is so important in terms of what they
bring to the table. Now, I mean his stats are

(05:04):
are somewhat comparable in terms of tackles sixty tackles, twenty
one assists on one sack, two interceptions. Listen, that's not
a bad bad year statistically for a corner either depending
on how often he's playing and depending on how many

(05:28):
times they throw the ball his way. Two interceptions is
not something that you would say is a great year
by any stretch of the imagination. So, but that's right
around what he's pretty much averaged his entire career. Like,
I think the most he's he's had is four in

(05:48):
a year, four interceptions. So I would be interested to
see what his past breakups are, his past defenses are.
I'm not I'm not going to say it's a horrible
move or it's a bad move by either team. I
don't I did. I do not think that Minka Fitzpatrick
is slipping. I don't. I think he's still a fine

(06:09):
football player and has some some fine football left in him.
And and so I think that's a positive addition for
for Miami, especially because I mean, this is a team
that has a lot of talent, and you lose a
Jalen Ramsey. You were going to lose him, it sounds

(06:30):
like anyway, So to lose Jalen Ramsey, but to be
able to replace it with a Minka Fitzpatrick, I think
that I think that that's a win for Miami. Now
you have a young player and Joey Porter Junior that
plays cornerback, and and he has continued to improve and

(06:50):
improve and improve. If you're playing Jalen Ramsey as another corner,
then I'm I'm interested to see how much he has
left because that could make the defensive secondary pretty formidable.
If he still has something left in the tank. I
don't know. That's a big question mark. If if he

(07:10):
can play, make the switch in be a good safety,
I don't. I don't. There's no comp on knowing if
he can be a good safety. But the look of it,
and even getting the tight end, the looks of it,
it did not hurt the Steelers. I don't believe it.
I could be wrong.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
I think it helped them.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
I could be wrong. I don't know yet if it
helped them. I know that gives them depth at the
tight ends position. But what will Jalen Ramsey be as
a Pittsburgh Steeler. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. So
while I'll say I don't believe they hurt themselves, I
don't know if they helped themselves. But again, I think

(07:51):
it raises it continues to raise the stakes for decisions
that they've made, getting rid of a beloved player, leader,
a playmaker for their team and bringing in a guy
that could potentially be a lightning Rod in terms of
how he handles things. It's a it's a wait and

(08:13):
see situation.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
I would say, I look at it and I go,
they got rid of Mika Fitzpatrick and they added Jalen
Ramsey and John new Smith to me in just a
two for one. From that standpoint, I like the move
for Pittsburgh, and I also would trust that they would
figure out a way to make sure they're getting the
most out of Jalen Ramsey whatever, you know, whatever, that

(08:36):
version of him looks like this at this point in
his career, whether he's playing cornerback, whether he's transitions to safety, whatever.
And then with John new Smith, you know you're you're
getting him back. With Arthur Smith, you know there's there's
that relationship that's there and those guys that go back
to Tennessee days together. I look at this and I go,

(08:56):
if you're Pittsburgh, if you're a Steelers fan, and you've
been wondering whether or not they would get aggressive in
any of these off seasons over the past number of years,
they've gotten aggressive. They've made a ton of moves, which
tells me everybody there is starting to feel the heat.
Because you don't normally see Pittsburgh go out and spend
big money and go after a guy like DK Metcalf

(09:17):
and DK Metcalf. They added Darius Slay, they add John Newsmith,
they add Jalen Ramsey. They go out, they get Rogers.
This is a completely different looking Steelers. It's a completely
different approach to the Steelers, and one that Jalen Ramsey
himself yesterday on social media out He sent out a
little something via his social media account talking about his

(09:40):
excitement when it comes to the well, we'll get that
at some point later on, we'll effort that at some
point here. But nonetheless, Jalen Ramsey was excited about being
a Pittsburgh Steeler, so much so that he took to
social media.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
In Pittsburgh, toughness isn't a trait, it's a tradition, and
this city's always had a thing for defense with an edge.
Now there's a new name stepping into the black and boase,
shut down corner, relentless competitor, a walking chip on his
shoulder with four wheels and no brakes.

Speaker 5 (10:26):
He talks loud, he hits harder. He didn't come to
change what Pittsburgh stands for. He came to show he
belongs on steel, sharpened steel, and the Steelers just about sharper.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
You think about that far? What do you think about that?

Speaker 3 (10:44):
I mean, that was nice, sounded.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Good representing you're Steelers. You're not more excited about this?
Come on, bar, Steelers are back.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
I'm skeptical, man, I'm just skeptical. That's all skeptical looks
of it. Minka had four past defenses, while I believe
Jalen Ramsey had seven. No, no, not seven past defenses.

(11:17):
He had eleven. So, I mean, it's not bad. It's
not bad. It's not bad. I mean, it's it could
turn out to be a really good pick. I mean,
it's still a name that says elite corner, but it
doesn't come without wondering is he still an elite corner?

(11:41):
Does that make sense? He's still it's a name that
says elite corner, but does he still have elite cornerback
game left in him? That's I mean, that's the first
question that comes to mind for me. But again, the
Pittsburgh's defense, the Steeler defense, they they could have used,
they could have been a little better. They could have

(12:03):
been a little better last year. Uh and and just
knowing that it's coverage. It's all about coverage. It's all
about the way you're able to defend against the past
these days. Are you able to get to the quarterback?
Are you able to cover the quarterback? And the Pittsburgh
Steelers strong unit, you know, they they I mean they

(12:27):
were high. They were they were ranked time in some
pretty pretty good, you know categories. They were good against
the past with in terms of past rush with TJ. Watt,
they're pre decent against the run. But they could have
been better. I mean they they definitely could have been better,
and this team overall could have been better. I just

(12:50):
I think there's a lot of pressure. I think there's
a lot of pressure on Pittsburgh Steelers UH to be
able to create a better, a better scenario, better outcomes
for their team this year. And we'll see. I mean,
they're certainly not going to get criticized for not making
an assertive effort during this offseason. Yeah, to be a

(13:12):
better team. I mean, they certainly won't get the blame
on that well.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
And I think that's to me, that's what stands out
the most about this move. With the other moves they've
made in the off season, clearly they looked around and
realize we got work to do, because if not for
the Cleveland Browns, that team's the worst team in that division.
And Cincinnati feels like, you know, I know, they've got

(13:37):
to get the Trey Hendrickson stuff figured out, but Cincinnati
feels like they're ascending. That's a dangerous team. Pittsburgh's been
kind of caught in the middle a little bit. And
I do think that at least, at the very least,
you're gonna walk away from this year going hey, at
least we may we gave it a run. We didn't
just accept the same old, same old every single offseason.

(13:57):
At least we made some moves. At least we got aggressive.
Roll the dice, see if Jalen Ramsey has a little
something left, see if Rogers has a little something that left.
Reunite John hu Smith, bringing DK Metcalf all of a sudden,
it's a new look, and for me, it makes this
team that much more intriguing going into the season and
going into the training camp.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
Yeah, man, definitely intriguing, and it'll be definitely interesting to
see if this because the biggest question still remains, did
these moves make you competitive against Baltimore and Cincinnati. That's
that's gonna be the biggest question. And listen, Cincinnati has
been known to play down or play like Cincinnati Bengals,

(14:41):
you know, and they've they've been good, They've they've they've
got a lot of talent and they got probably I mean,
you could debate if he's the best quarterback in in
the AFC, nor if you could debate if he's a
top top you know three top five quarterback in in
the league, so and Joe Burrow. But they have not

(15:04):
always played up to their potential, and so that'll be
interesting to see. How will Cincinnati play. They still have
some some outstanding issues they need to tie up and
take care of. Baltimore has seemingly become kind of it's
their division, So how are they going to look this year?

(15:25):
Are they going to be that? I think we look
at Baltimore and say, how much better are they going
to be than what they were the year before? Because
they continue to improve. And so to me, it's like
you could do a great job on your off season,
but how much better have you have you made your
team good enough to be able to compete against Baltimore
and Cincinnati. I mean, that's Some would say yes, yea,

(15:51):
some would say yes.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
That's the uh. And and look, it's not like we
haven't seen teams go out and make a bunch of moves.
The Eagles back in twenty eleven that went out and
signed Nomdia, some one, all those guys, and then it
turned out there were a five hundred team of the
regular season. So it could end up being like that.
But I just it would give me if I were
a Steelers fan, it would give me a little bit
more hope going into next year knowing well, at least

(16:13):
we got aggressive and if it all fails miserably, then
heads are probably gonna roll after the year, and then
you just pick up the pieces moving forward.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
All right, So I got to know training camps right
around the corner. Fourth of July is this friday for
NFL players? This really is the last week that you
can get it in? Is that correct?

Speaker 3 (17:25):
My son came home, he came home for the week,
but he ain't gonna get it in. I'm gonna get
it out of him. I'll tell you that, because we're
gonna get some work in today. He got lucky. Yesterday
was my birthday, but he came in for that. He
came in for my birthday. So that was cool. But yeah,
you know, he's uh, you know, he's he's here, and

(17:47):
and yes, the answer is yes, this is that this
is that one last moment where you get the opportunity
to kind of, you know, get whatever it is you
got in inside of your out of you. And so
that you can lock in on on the grind of
the season. You gotta get through training camp, get through

(18:09):
training camp, get the regular season. Next thing, you know,
it's like, this is it. This is this is that
last moment before you start the journey to the other
side of the basically the year. You know you're gonna
close the year out if you're playing well, or to
Thanksgiving somewhere in there and around there. So yeah, this

(18:32):
is this is that one moment in time to you know,
have your last whatever's going to be. Go jump in
the pool, go jump in the ocean, you know, just
be at home, whatever it may be. But this is
that last moment for.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Sure, because when you mentioned it, you know, like before
you get back to the grind basically the NFL, Like
just from the NFL standpoint, if everything goes well, if
your team ends up playing well enough after this week,
you belong to them for seven months. That's right, that's

(19:07):
wild to think about, Like you belong to them for
seven months. You'll get a bye week, but who knows
of any if you're banged up or a rehabbing part
of that, But for seven months you belong to them.
And I do wonder if that's something too when we
see these issues of player arrests or off field incidents
or things like that, especially around the Fourth of July holiday,

(19:28):
is because they feel what you're mentioning, do it after this,
we got nothing but grind, So let's just let it
all loose. And some can do it within the parameters
of the legal system or the you know, the illegal
fireworks system, and some can't. And those are just the repercussions.

(19:48):
But it is interesting to think because I think for
most people, you just get into this typical Monday through
Friday ish type of nine to five grind. We're in
the NFL, You've got all this free time, and then
all of a sudden, you just don't that's over. Like
you belong to them for a significant amount of time
throughout the course of the year, and so you just wonder,

(20:09):
all right, so who's going to be the first one
to make a mistake, Who's going to get in trouble?
How's this whole thing in a play out? Because this
and the fact that fourth July is on a Friday,
you know, mixed in with a whole weekend afterwards, I
feel like probably going to be an incident or two.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
This week.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
Not trying to be negative, but I feel like we'll
be reporting on some sort of an off field issue
in the NFL this week at some point. What do
you think about that you want to place that wager? No,
a little police blodder wager. Not interested.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
You think somebody's going to get in trouble.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
What's the wildest before training camp party that you can
remember that you can tell? Not giving names, but like
what's the scene? Like how many people?

Speaker 3 (20:58):
I don't feel like there's a wow, pardy before you
go to training camp. I will say I threw a
wild party Fourth of July slash my birthday every year,
and that was pretty wild. And if you're from DC

(21:19):
and you're around my age or a little older, you
probably attended it. I mean it's pretty wild. One year
there was a shooting. I mean it was you know,
people's emotions was turned up.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
Wait a second, was this open was open to the public?

Speaker 3 (21:37):
It was kind of open to the public. It was.
It was at one the one year we did it
at a we you know me, Julian Peterson, we started it.
We did it. We would do charity so we'd help
help the kids do do a football camp, go to
the children's hospital, visit the kit it's donations, stuff like that,

(22:03):
and then we would have a rap party like basically
wrapping up the festivities that took place because we did
a bowling. We did bowling too, and and so we
would do a rap party at at a mansion. One
year we even did it at my house and it

(22:24):
would be a really really good time. It is all
I can tell you. That's it. That's all I'm going
to give you because that it was a really but
one year, one year, dude this do so I'll tell
you how it ended up leading to a shooting. It
was a ur tyro Gotti and Floyd Mayweather were fighting.
You remember that one.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Oh love ur turo Gotti. By the way, Netflix, you
want to do a documentary find out how he really died.
That's what I want to know. Love our turro got
I'm sorry, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
No worse. So it was, you know, it was kind
of like a party, cookout party, pool party. But there
was nice, like a super nice theater room in this house,
so we had usage of the house. We're in the
theater room and there was these two dudes and this
one dude in particularly you know how it is when

(23:13):
there's a lot of pretty women around and you've been
drinking or you've been smoking whatever it is, and you know,
dark liquor just sometimes just isn't the right move, and
you just got to know what your kryptonite is. And
this one dude was just he was just talking so
crazy and this, that and the other, and he was
starting to scare people in the room. So the security

(23:35):
removed him. You know, they gave him a warning. He
got a warning, he kept on going because you know,
some dudes got this weird thing that they think that
they're impressing women by talking crazy. It's it's something that
I've never understood. And if a woman is turned on
by you acting in a belligerent, violent way, then you know,

(24:01):
I guess nature ran its course. If y'all ended up
together and it was because of her liking that, I mean,
that's some weirdest to me. But some dudes, nonetheless think
that girls like that that type of stuff. Anyway, he
ends up getting removed from the room. Fight is over.
Everybody's like dispersing to go back to the party, and
I'm walking and I hear like this commotion and I'm

(24:24):
walking and as I'm walking, by I see the commotion,
and he said, I don't give it up about LeVar Arrington,
Da da da, Who theff does he think he is?
And I looked at him and he looked at me,
and it was like that moment in time where you
had to decide, like do I stay with what I
was saying or do I like be like, you know,
say something different. I don't know, but it was like

(24:45):
we met eyes. I saw him, he saw me, or
I saw him, you know, and he saw me. We
saw each other or whatever. And he took a pause
and then he just turned right on back up. And
then the security just they you know, they removed him
from the house. Now, what happened after that, They they
walked him as gentlemen. They walked him to his car

(25:08):
to make sure him and his boys got into the
car and got off the property, so that, you know,
the party could continue on what happened at the car,
you know, I don't know, man, there's different accounts. There's
different accounts of what happened and how it happened. All
I know was we heard. We heard. That's so that's
all I heard. You know, we heard it, and God,

(25:32):
needless to say, the party was over. But I used
to do them. I used to do them. The first
one I ever did, I did in Fairfax and Chef
Ad my boy shouts out to Chef Ad. He was
grilling and it was only supposed to be like a
handful of us like that was there, just you know,
that was It's funny. Julius Peppers and Ryan Simms, they

(25:56):
played together at uh at at U n C. I
had them. They were in town, they were we were
all hanging out. They were at the party and we
were just hanging out and it turned into a real party.
Like the cops came everything, like, you know, the music
is reaching the road, you know what I mean, Like

(26:18):
you got to you got to turn your music down
because the neighbors are complaining about it. I was like,
I'm so sorry. I mean we're on you know, some
acres here. I ain't realize that it was that loud,
so we turned the music down. But that was the
first one we ever did, and that one was pretty
That one was pretty intense because I didn't expect anybody,
like we were expecting like ten fifteen people and we

(26:40):
were watching the NBA Finals and ended up being like,
I don't even know the number I couldn't even count.
It was just it was just my house was full
of people. And which, by the way, if you were there,
fu because after the party was over, when all the
smoke cleared, like all my DVD my DVD collection was

(27:00):
all gone ransacked. They yeah, they was taking my sneakers
was missing, like I had some stuff missing.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
By the way. That was the thing. I remember that
back going to parties in high school where people thought
that was cool. You'd go to somebody would have a
party at their parents' house, and then somebody would steal
stuff from the party. Why, Like do you know, like
they're they're walking the plank trying to make sure that
their parents don't find out about this party. And even
if they do a great job cleaning up, the dad's

(27:29):
gonna come home and go what happened to all the DVDs?
What happened to this?

Speaker 3 (27:34):
Like how?

Speaker 2 (27:34):
And that's just a thing, Like you've got these petty
criminals and them.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
Joys was like twenty dollars each, twenty thirty dollars, twenty
five dollars? What was it for DVDs? Black? Back then
I had Blu rays I had like they took them.
They took them. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
If you look at a solid DVD collection from back
in the day, thousands of dollars spent, but you don't
think about it because you're doing it one at a time,
and then you look at it as you have amassed
this collection, you've got thousands of dollars. Like CDs back
in the day, if you got a whole booklet of CDs,
you go back through there. Man, CDs are like fourteen
to fifteen bucks apiece for an album.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
So so do that math. Yeah, but it was cool.
You know, you blow the steam off, You blow that
steam off, and then you get you get the work. Yep,
you know it's time to get you check it, you
get your mind right to check in and then you
check in for cat and then it starts. Yeah, so

(28:34):
there you go.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
We'll be safe out there, everybody.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Yeah, don't party too hard man, one last ride.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
We did get a little piece of news yesterday out
of the NFL. A congratulations to Rodney Harrison. He will
go into the Chargers Hall of Fame. That was information
was given to him as he was waiting in the
parking lot outside his daughter's volleyball tournament. He got a

(29:13):
FaceTime from Jim Harbaugh, the coach of the Chargers, to
let him know that he was going into the Chargers
Hall of Fame, along the with greats like Ladanian, Tomlinson,
Antonio Gates, Junior seou So, Rodney, Harrison well deserved goes
into the Chargers Hall of Fame. And I don't know
that there's a lot of people, by the way, speaking

(29:34):
of a guy who not yeah, not built for today's game.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
He crashed out on me.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
Did he really?

Speaker 3 (29:43):
Yes? He did.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
What happened.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
There was a play, Doug Flutey did something I don't know.
I felt like somebody moved. I went through the line
of scrimmage and I hit Doug flute In knocked him
on his back, and Harrison Rodney just crashed out, man like.
He was like hollering at me, Da, da da this day,

(30:10):
I'll f you up? Did that that? That? This? That? So?
He ain't afraid I'll tell you that.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Because he's a leather neck Western Illinois baby.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
It's one afraid, bro. I told him, I'll beat your
ass on this field, off this field, wherever you like it.
I'll beat the I'll beat the f out of you.
Brouh you ever talked to me that way? We was talking.
We was talking greasy to one another. I mean, he
picked the right one to talk to that way. We definitely,

(30:42):
we definitely, you know, exchanged some some very very non
pleasant pleasantries to one another during the course of that exchange.
But I respected it. And and you know, the one
thing about it is is if if somebody would, if say,
I would have hit our quarterback and was called for
an offside and then a personal foul, I would have

(31:03):
been telling as much as I loved Jay Junior, I
would have been telling him the same thing. I would
have been saying the same thing. If it was Ronnie Harrison,
I would have been saying the same thing. So he's
one of those type guys you hate him as an opponent,
you love him as your teammate type dudes, you know,
and he's well deserving of it. I mean, I don't
know his let me look him up. I felt like

(31:24):
he had a Hall of Fame career, man, I mean,
I really do he was one of them special they
they always talk about certain safeties, like and it always
starts with Paulamalu, you know, which it should start with
Ronnie Lott, by the way. But you know a lot
of people bring up you know, Polamalu and Ed Reed

(31:47):
and then it's kind of like they stop or they
bring in Sean Taylor, you know, and they talk about
those guys and deservingly so not not saying not deservingly,
but but there have been some guys that had really
played this game at a at a very very high level.
And Rodney Harrison was definitely, you know, he was definitely

(32:11):
one of them.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
First team All Pro twice, second team All Pro, was
fourth and Player of the Year, a Defensive Player of
the Year voting one year, won a couple of Super
Bowls in New England, obviously Pro Bowls. I mean, the
fact that he's not in the Pro Football Hall of
Fame is a little bit surprising. And I don't know

(32:33):
that you put him, you know on obviously, you know,
maybe not the Ed Reed level and all that, but
he was still a great player and I wonder he's
got It's kind of interesting because he played nine years
with the Chargers, and I wonder if nationally there's more
people that remember his time with the Patriots because of

(32:53):
those big games.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
That he played it, which is crazy because he was
a way, way, way way younger, more spry player in
San Diego.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
And it's not like he didn't play in the Super
Bowl with San Diego. Remember they they got blown out
by the Niners.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
But he did beat They beat my Steelers to get there.
You know what's crazy is him. It was him and
Junior that's it. Like you might look at Natron Means
and you know a couple other people that you know,
Curtis Conway I believe was a guy Stan Humphrees, Like
there have been some guys like who was the dude

(33:29):
that had the light the light visor that was the
defensive end for them? Now, I mean they had they
had some guys, you know what I'm talking about. They
had some guys on on their team. And the two
that always stood out the most until LT and Sean

(33:49):
Merriman got there, and you know, Sean Phillips and Thosing Gates.
You know, until that era of time, the pre era
to that, it was all Rodney Hairrrison and Junior Sayau
all all like literally all them. I mean you could
throw Edwards in there too. The linebacker at Donnie Edwards

(34:10):
was was was dope as hell for the Chargers as well.
But man, it was junior in Rodney. Man, it was
the Junior and Rodney show for sure.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Yeah, they were. And it's just you know, and then
he's still waiting around. I also would say this from abroad.
I've loved Rodney Harrison as a broadcaster because he's one
of those guys that is, Look, I know I'm a
former player. I'm not going to be a kiss ass
to former players.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
I don't care.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
I'm going to tell it how it is. This, this
is my thoughts on it. There's some people that push
back on it and say, well, who are you to
talk like? You're not one to talk considering your reputation
as a player, whether it's dirty hits, people forget it
sort of sparked the Kurt Warner running Saint Louis because

(34:59):
it was Rodney Harrison who went low against Trent Green.
There's been other incidents that have popped up when it
comes to Rodney Harrison. He was fined a significant amount
of money throughout the course of his career, but that
dude was a great player. And I think that people
look more at his run with the Patriots than they

(35:23):
do his run with the Chargers. And he was in
San Diego way longer, and I don't know if that's
because it was San Diego. And this is not to
be insulting or offensive to San Diego Charger fans or
people listening in San Diego, but look, the team left
for a reason. I mean, they're clearly the market, the

(35:43):
visibility wasn't the same as it was in New England.
So when he went to New England and was able
to win Super Bowls there, I think it put his
career on another level. And the fact that he's still
waiting around for a Hall of Fame bid is kind
of strange. That's kind of odd to me. I guess,
you know, there's a few of them out there. I
guess he's one of those names to add, you know,

(36:04):
Darren Woodson, he's a name to add. He continues to
wait on getting getting a NOD and getting into the
Pro Football.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
Hall of Fame. You know, there's a lot of them
out there, but Rodney Harrison definitely is was a generational
player and definitely was a special football player. I think
he does an excellent job as well. The one thing
I love about Rodnie is that he just don't give
an f at all, Like you can say what you
want about him, you know. And I tend to try

(36:36):
to pattern myself after guys like that, you know, growing
up watching them, even now being in this type of
environment where I do media, I try to do it
the same exact way. I could care less what people say.
You know, you could say I stink, you could say this,
that and the other. I'm gonna have a good time
with it because at the end of the day, I'm

(36:57):
getting paid to do the job. You get zero for
saying damn you know what I mean. So it's like
I get behind the microphone. I know what I know,
I've experienced what I've experienced, and and continue to learn.
Continue to talk to people you know that are within
the game, whether it be you know, top top tier guys,
top top level you know, corporate, or if it's the

(37:20):
players themselves. I try to stay connected to it as
much as I possibly can and and give give my perspective,
you know, because that's what this is. When you do
talk radio, you're you're here to give perspective for him,
he's he's an analyst, a studio guy, and he's brought
in to give his opinions and his perspective, which is

(37:43):
based upon your experiences and how you see them. So
if you tell me my my my perspective is some s,
then that's fine, but I'm nonetheless still giving you genuine,
authentic perspective and that will never And that's one thing
as a player that I always respected about Rodney Harrison,

(38:05):
but I also respected from him as as a media
personality too.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
He could crack man.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
Oh, he brought that hat. Bro was brought that hat.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
He was one of those big shoulder pad safety guys.

Speaker 3 (38:18):
So that would just lay the lumber like and he
didn't care if he knocked himself out. That's the thing
about it. He'll knock you out and he might knock
himself out, but it didn't matter. He's still he's going
to bring. He was what you He was a dude
that brought the noise. You're gonna get them woodled.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
The name that we were looking for was Leslie O'Neill.

Speaker 3 (38:37):
Leslie O'Neill, there you go.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Great player. Chris Mimmes was on that team.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
Chris that's a good one, and.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
Chargers had something. But that I want to show you
how good that forty nine Ers team was because that
wasn't close. That was a complete wipe out. And I
still remember this watching that Chargers Steelers AFC championship game,
and I remember it was a play at the goal
line and my nephew was a die hard Steelers fan,

(39:04):
and I just remember the ball was batted down at
the goal line. The Chargers win in three rivers. It
was an upset and I remember him running out of
the room crying, and I'm looking at it, going how
did San Diego win that game? Because everyone thought the
Steelers are going to the Super Bowl and that was
one of those.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
It been a much better game, I'll tell you that.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Oh yeah. And it was also that was people forget
that there was a real discussion that was being had.
Man is Bill Cower ever going to get this team
over the hump? Like, is Bill Cower ever going to
get this team to a super Bowl? And eventually they
got there, but they lost that Super Bowl either the
next year or the year after to Dallas in you know,

(39:45):
in Arizona, and then ultimately they ended up winning it,
and that was, you know, Bill Cower's final game. But yeah,
Rodney Harrison going to be a Hall of Famer, going
into the Chargers Hall of Fame, well deserved, and maybe
one day it'll eventually lead and do it. A Pro
Football Hall of Fame nod for him. But there's a
great Chargers team, and go back to them. By the way,
enough with the powder blue crap. Go back to those

(40:07):
Chargers jerseys, those unis. I don't want to hear about
the powder blue stuff. Like, go back, dark blue, thick,
lightning bolt across the helmet and let's ride with that here.
I don't care. They're not in San Diego anymore. Make
that happen
