Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the best of two pros and a couple
of Joe with Lamar Erings and Brady Quinn and Jonas
Knox on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Two Pros and a cup of Joe. Fox Sports Radio,
Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with you here. Coming up in
we'll call it a little over twenty minutes from now.
Somebody had a really good idea that went horribly wrong.
We'll get into the details on that for you again
coming up here a little over twenty minutes from now,
before we get to somebody who's not pleased about the
situation they were placed in in the world of football.

(00:35):
It is time right now for the tire rack play
of the day.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
I'm the wind up fan.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
The one two to Julio swing and a well hit
ball deep the right field, down the line. This one
is going and going, and goodbye baseball.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Buying should be so.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
James Franklin, the head coach of Penn State, was speaking
at Big Ten Media Days in Las Vegas and apparently
not all that thrilled with the fact that they were
in Las Vegas for Big Ten Media Days and pointed
out just sort of, you know what those other guys
in the SEC get with their media days.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
A lot of our beat writers did not come to
this because.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
They couldn't afford to get out here.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
And the majority of our teams are near Chicago, where
this used to always be. A majority of our teams
are near Indianapolis where this used to be, and it
creates a different environment.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
I walk around the lobby, I I don't see any signage.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
I'll see anything for the Big Ten.

Speaker 4 (01:52):
I'll see people getting autographs.

Speaker 6 (01:55):
I'll see it's a different vibe and it's a different feeling.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
I think that other co when they have their their meetings,
there's essentially a press conference every single day.

Speaker 5 (02:07):
At the end of the meetings.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
It teaps people talking about that conference at a time
of the year and makes them relevant we're not doing that.
We need to be talking about the Big Ten and
our programs and the things that we do and making
it as successful to everybody as we possibly can and
connecting with the fans, don't overs.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
I think.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
I think Vegas is a special place, and I think
they run events as well as anybody, but it's a
different feeling.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
It's it's a different feeling.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
And I've been at those other places where people are
putting up babies for you to autograph and stuff.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
It's it's different. So I think there's still some.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Things that we got to be strategic.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
And smart about that are going to put our best
that are going to put our conference in our schools
in the best position on a national level.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
In my opinion.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
All right, Brady, you were in Vegas for Big Ten
Media Days. Your thoughts. I see what Coach is talking about.

Speaker 6 (03:05):
You know, it definitely felt different than Chicago and Indianapolis
in regards to everywhere you went. It didn't feel like
you were there for the Big Ten Media Days. It
just felt like you're in Vegas for the Big ten
Media Days. And there's a number of cities that I
think can take an event and swallow it up and
not really and just spit it out where you're like,

(03:26):
all right, was that one on there? Okay, I didn't
even notice. There's just there wasn't that feel for it.
When the Big ten goes to Chicago goes to Indianapolis,
it's just a different feel the way they go about
promoting it, advertising it. I mean, I think personally Indianapolis
does the best job because everywhere you look there's something

(03:46):
that's you know, Big ten oriented or how they're highlighting it,
like you know, the entire Big.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
Tens in town. So I understand what he's saying.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
I think for them in particular, you know, they're gonna
have a heart attar I'm getting anywhere, by the way,
because it's just it's hard to get to Happy Valley.
So as much as I would side with him from
the standpoint of, you know what he saw when he
got to Las Vegas.

Speaker 5 (04:09):
You walk into the lobby and it's just the lobby.

Speaker 6 (04:11):
Of a Mendlay Bay or wherever else you're staying while
you're there, it's not again, it's not promoting that there's
people walking on.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Everywhere like oh hey, Big ten media, like.

Speaker 6 (04:22):
It's like one of the many attractions that are there
in Las Vegas, so I get a little bit of that.
But you know, I'm sure USC, UCLA or Oregon, Washington
they're looking at him going whoa second, dude, Like it's
not easy for us to get all the way into
Indianapolis either, So this is a nice bone that the
Big Ten has thrown to us. But here's what I

(04:44):
think this is actually underlying. And I'm not trying to
speak for James Franklin. I think there were a number
of growing issues for a lot of the blue bloods
and some of the top teams in each one of
these conferences. Because there are so many teams that are
part of you know, the Big Ten and the SEC
and all these different conferences, i think there's some things

(05:06):
that go on that they're getting a little bit tired of.
And you know, the conference commissioners have a tough job
because they've got to make everyone happy. But you know,
the bell cows are the ones that really are holding
together your conference. The Ohio States, the Penn States, the Michigans.
Those are like the big blue blood programs that are
really carrying the conference, and you try not to give

(05:28):
them favoritism. But I'm hoping Tony Pattiti listens to James
Franklin because to his point, when you compare at least
to the SEC, it's got a different feel to it,
and you know you can go to different I mean
I was down at the Big Twelve as well, and
you know they go in and when they're there at
the Star, you know, as much as it's all about

(05:49):
the Dallas Cowboys and the outside, you know, they do
a good job of highlighting a lot of the programs
that are there, and it's all about ball. It's all
about football. It's about the Big Twelve. And you feel
that while you're there, even in that small little vicinity.
So I can see his frustration by it. You know,
I didn't sense that just from talking to him when
he was there, but it's a good point to bring up,

(06:09):
I think in particular when this is, you know, quite
possibly the biggest year in James Franklin's career, that's how
good this team is that he has. They were really
good last year. They should be a team that competes
for a national championship this year.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
So from my understanding, this is the first year they've
done it outside of say Chicago in Indianapolis, that this
is the first year they've done it, and in looking up,
they're going back there next year.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
Correct, I don't think so. I thought they were. They
were looking at moving to Indianapolis next year.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
So because I had seen that, you know, they were
the talk was maybe next year July twenty first through
the twenty third, twenty twenty six, they're looking at Mandalay
Bay again in Vegas. And to his point when it
comes to the SEC, for years, the SEC did their
media days in who Alabama, and then they've bounced around Atlanta, Nashville, Dallas,

(07:05):
et cetera. You wouldn't catch the SEC dead at Mandalay
Bay in Vegas. Like there was no there's no shot.
And I had no idea how big of a deal
SEC media days were until being out there in South
Carolina and people talking about, Oh, yeah, this is what
the scene is, this is what the setup is, this

(07:25):
is what the coverage is. Like, I had no idea,
and it does feel like it is presented differently. I look,
I think our show should be a big ten media
days with your involvement with Big Noon kickoff with LeVar
and the Penn State ties, like, I think we should
be there.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
Well, well, here's my question to you, would are you
saying that just because it's Vegas, Like, are you all in?

Speaker 5 (07:47):
I know you're in for a trip to Chicago.

Speaker 6 (07:49):
I get that, but Indianapolis because it's harder to get
to Indianapolis.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
For you, I would rather go to Indianapolis in Chicago
than Vegas. Okay, Like I've done the whole Vegas thing,
like it's and all. But to James Franklin's point, it
does feel like. Look, they do put on great events,
and logistically it makes all the sense in the world.
Everything's in close proximity, you can get to the airport
pretty easy. Like all of that is fair and true.

(08:15):
But if it's big ten media days, you'd like it
to feel like big ten media days. I would assume, like,
just like the SEC, it feels like, you know, SEC
media days. And I just I totally see what he's saying,
Like I get his point, but maybe this I don't
know if it's a cost thing. I don't know if
just financially it makes more sense to happen there.

Speaker 6 (08:34):
But it's the genesis behind it is they're trying to
make good on this, you know, Coast to Coast conference.
Now as they talk about I was walking down the
elevator and there's a couple who was on and they
looked at me and they go, oh, you're a big
time media day.

Speaker 5 (08:49):
How I go, yeah, I am. And the husband looked
at the wife and he's like, yeah, he's like, you're up.

Speaker 6 (08:53):
My mother's in the Big Ten now she was she
went to UCLA and yeah, I go yeah.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
No one.

Speaker 6 (08:58):
I was like, yeah, we look at those l beaches.
Now is Big ten country. And they just kind of like,
you know, looked over and smirked. But in all seriousness,
that's what this is. That this is a bit of
a you know, bone being thrown to the four teams
that you know, left the Pac twelve and decided to
come to the Big Ten. And so it's not behind
the scenes, it's not just this for the Big Ten

(09:19):
media days. The spring meetings that we had, they were
all the way out in La. You had all these
you know, teams and they're athletic directors and their coaches.
They all flew out to La to go stay at
Taranna down there in Palace Verdes, right next to the
home there of one Petros Papadekas, and they were all
there kind of meeting and going over things for the conference.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
So it's not just the Big Ten Media Days, it's things.

Speaker 6 (09:43):
That in the future, you know, I don't know in
the spring time if they're going to move that anywhere
else or if that's always.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Going to be a tarran aa. You know.

Speaker 6 (09:50):
For the Big Ten Media Days, a lot of the
talk that I was there was that it was going
back to Indianapolis, and that was not even coming from
that was coming from people who were with a Big
ten going back to Indianapolis next year, you know, So
it can maybe it like it goes back and forth,
but I think most people agreed, like, man, the convention
Center's find the setups good once you get there. It's

(10:11):
just not easy to get there for a lot of
those teams that are basically coming from the Midwest or
the East.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Coast, and then you get to sit on a Southwest
flight like you do and deal with weirdos with masks
on that are that are just trying to you know,
like play video games and do coding, you know, with
a whole bunch of empty seats around him, Like it's
a pain in the ass. I get it, James Franklin,
I get it. He's one hundred percent correct, Like, go
back to Indianapolis, go back to Chicago, make it a

(10:36):
home game for you. Why should they cater to the
new guys? Like, no, you come meet us, you will.
Orgon did win the conference last year. Yeah, but still
like this is all about how long you been there? Like,
we're the elder statesman in this conference. You should come
to us, all right, you're the one who wanted to
be a part of this so you could make more money.

(10:57):
Because the PAC twelve was a disaster. You should come
to us. It shouldn't be Hey, let's make them feel
comfortable and fly all the way out there so we
can be a part of their media days, Like come on,
like it. It feels a bit ridiculous. But I do
think our show should be there. I think our show
one should be there. I think the big noon show
should be there.

Speaker 6 (11:13):
Oh yeah, yeah probably, I mean that's that's you know.
Get I would have thought a lot more guys from
the big new show would be there, but it didn't
really work out that way.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
What do you mean? I mean it was Vegas.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
I thought, like LIKERI and Lorena, that would have been like,
oh Vegas, y'all take a free trip out to Vegas
to go quote unquote work.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
I mean Rob Stone lives out here, correct, like he
lives in southern California. I'm assuming, like, yeah, that's that's
a quick flight.

Speaker 5 (11:37):
Stoner could have been busy and I don't know what
he's doing.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
I mean, that's that's a quick flight. Feels like it's
a quick flight for Liner. There's you know, feels like
it's a quick flight for most of those guys. Like
why not you know, get out there and be a
part of it all, promote, promote the hell.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
Out of lot Liner was out there. He was there
for a couple of hours. He was doing he was
working with a sponsor or something. He's always trying to
tap into a social media so there's there's something going
on there. But but he wasn't there meeting with teams
of coaches. He was like in a separate little conference room.
I'm like, why do they fly you here to do this?
He's a guy I don't know. I was like, Okay, well.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Now are you gonna bust their balls for not being
a part of it? Like, will you figure out a
way to work in.

Speaker 5 (12:14):
It's always like this.

Speaker 6 (12:14):
I always go there and log content for our season.
So a lot of the interviews you'll see that I'm
doing with the coaches and players, it actually happens in
the spring or excuse me, and then the summer like
media days. So even for the Big twelve, Big Ten,
you're hoping that all that content makes it to the season.
You know, you hope guys stay healthy some of the
players that you sit down in and interview. By the way,

(12:37):
going back to yesterday, for that player that I interviewed,
asked one question and he just talked. I've got the
actual length of how long he talked uninterrupted.

Speaker 5 (12:49):
Do you want to guess how long? It's?

Speaker 3 (12:50):
Oh jeez, all right. So this was a player who,
for people that weren't listening, talked for so long on
one answer that even the guy holding the boom my
arms got tired because he was he was trying to
catch a break.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
What was this?

Speaker 5 (13:04):
It was a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
So I'm gonna five minutes, five minutes, thirty five seconds
on one question, just off one question.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Tell you something. That's a lazy sports talk radio host dream.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
If if you're looking to book a guest and you
know it's somebody long winded, you're like, oh, that segment's good,
Like I just be adding two or three questions and
I'm set.

Speaker 6 (13:32):
Here's my question. And this is also to Lorena and
then Brie, because Bri, you've worked on the show enough
and now at this point. But it's it's definitely a
jonas as well. Has LeVar talked uninterrupted for that long
before on the show?

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Yes or no, I'm gonna plead the fifth. I do
listen every day, but I'll plead the fifth.

Speaker 7 (13:56):
I think we've got upwards of like four and a half.

Speaker 5 (13:59):
Yeah, I don't know the he's gone that long.

Speaker 7 (14:00):
Well, like we're like waiting to go to break. You
are just as guilty.

Speaker 6 (14:05):
Who me, Yes, I've never gotten that long. You can
go get whatever AI software you want.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
I've that long? Yeah, yeah, Grock that who's more long winded? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Grock that LaVar one hundred Lvar one hundred percent. Like
if you told Labar, hey, five and a half minutes.
Oh that's easy. I got that beat. Yeah, It's like
I got that beat. Yeah, come on, that's.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (14:33):
It was one of the craziest things I've ever been
a part of. I've just I mean, I'll put it
this way.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
You guys talked to people before.

Speaker 6 (14:40):
Have you ever just talked to someone without them at
like dead in person, without them ever sing anything back
for five and a half minutes.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
No, I would feel I would feel awkward. Don't don't
air him out on the air, Breed like you did
that in your ear?

Speaker 6 (14:54):
Thank you?

Speaker 3 (14:55):
All right?

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Yeah, please, so we don't. We're not trying to air
anybody else out here at the network. I would feel
awkward talking for that long. If I talked for that
long to somebody like one on one, unless it's like
a solo show where you have to, Like if I
talk to somebody one on one, I would feel uncomfortable
about that.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
Like if you ask me, that's why, like you do
a solo show, I could never do that. I mean,
Loraina is.

Speaker 6 (15:17):
Like saying this, but I'm like, I could never do that,
Like LaVar's had to do stuff like that before. You
obviously do a solo show. So I don't know how
you talk on a solo show for that long.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Well, it's like you told me, you know, hashtag built different,
you know.

Speaker 6 (15:29):
I mean, I don't think I've ever told you that
somebody mean, yeah, but with your your crossover toes.

Speaker 5 (15:32):
Now I guess that's true.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
By the way, Larna Lareda had to come in to
get a peek at the toes and then proceeds to
tell me that she has a dirty tactic where she
takes pictures of people's feet.

Speaker 7 (15:45):
Wow, don't air me out.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
Well, you didn't take pictures of mine? What do I care?

Speaker 6 (15:50):
Ye?

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Damn Well, listen, James Franklin. We'll see at Mandalay Bay
next year. So and enjoy the flight over to a
lost Vegas. If that's I'm I'm pretty.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
Sure first to try to move back to Indy, but
we'll see.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
It is Two Pros and a Cup of Joe here
on Fox Sports Radio, Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox of the air.
Coming up next in another edition of In Case you
missed it, Though, we are going to tell you about
somebody who had a really good idea and.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
It went horribly wrong in the world of sports. That's
yours here on FSR.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
But here's the thing. We never have enough time to
get to everything we want to get.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
To and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy, he'll be over promising things we never
have time for.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Yeah, you blubber list lame and me. Well, you know
what it's called over promise. You should be good at
it because you've been over promising in for years.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also going to
talk life and relationships. And if Rich and I are
arguing about something or we didn't have enough time, it
will continue on our after show called over Promised. Well,
if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure
you check out over Promised and also Uncensored, by the way,
so maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.

(17:22):
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.
There you go, over promising, Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen to over Promised with Cavino
and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever
you get your podcasts.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Yeah, so great?

Speaker 5 (17:38):
Is uh LeVar just gonna strip up songs the rest
of the time? Is that what the plan is?

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Probably?

Speaker 6 (17:44):
I mean, I know people like it, so it kind
of makes sense, I guess. I mean, I know Lloyd
how would like it.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
It's a great point. I don't think he listened to
our show, but.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
I don't think he's listening to much now these days,
probably staying.

Speaker 5 (17:59):
I mean, he's got.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
It is two pros and a cup of Joe. Fox
Sports Radio, Brady Quinn, Jonas Knox with you here. You
can find us on the iHeartRadio app. You can find
us on hundreds of affiliates all across the country. Wherever
you are making us a part of your Friday morning
on this football Friday, we appreciate it, and we're going
to take you all the way up until nine am
Eastern time, six o'clock Pacific here. And we do have

(18:23):
some NFLPA news because somebody is trying to seek the
help of the NFLPA and they could really, really use
it at this point because they lost out on a
whole bunch of cash. Christian Wilkins, who signed a big
money contract last offseason via free agency with the Las
Vegas Raiders. The Raiders released him on Thursday with a

(18:45):
designation of quote terminated vested veteran. Reportedly they were not
happy with how he handled his rehab from a Jones
fracture he suffered in his foot last season. Thus they
are avoiding the remaining thirty five point two million dollars
of guaranteed money left on his contract. But don't worry,

(19:06):
he has found somebody to help. He has filed a
grievance with the NFLPA, so I'm sure that's gonna get
taken care of and that'll go smoothly based on their
track record. So Christian Wilkins is out of a lot
of money.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
And I don't know when I've last time I've heard
of something like this, but that feels like a significant
amount of cash to be out of because you didn't
rehab the way the team liked it.

Speaker 6 (19:31):
I mean, look, this is becoming more standardized language within
a lot of the contracts. We saw this with Trayvon Diggs,
right he got what a de escalator and his contract
for not rehabbing with the team. Yeah, so different team, However,
you're seeing still a loss of money in some way.
It leads you back to the whole idea of collusion

(19:52):
with the NFLPA finding this out during Lloyd How's tenure
there and JC Tretter being a part of it since
they're both gone. But you know, no one's really kind
of blown the whistle, are throwing a flag on this
for what's happening. You know, when you start seeing that
all these teams are putting more standardized language within their contracts,

(20:13):
you have to wonder even a situation like the Cincinnati
Bengals and why they're taking so long via Shamar Stewart's side,
Is this going to be more standardized language if the
Bengals can do it with Shamar Stewart, for every other
team with their rookies moving forward, Like, is every single
agent gonna have to deal with this come to twenty
twenty sixth draft just because the Bengals were able to
get it with one guy. Now it sets a precedent

(20:35):
and every one of these owners meetings they're looking at
you know, Mike Brown going all right and I say
what you're able.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
To get done there? Yea, And they're like, oh, it
looks pretty good, Mike, great job. Yeah, we're gonna try
to do the same thing.

Speaker 6 (20:44):
I mean, they're all buddies and they're all they're all
talking about the different changes they're trying to make to
protect their dollars.

Speaker 5 (20:52):
So that's what it's about.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
So what is the Is the NFLPA in any shape
to put up a fight, like to try and get
him his money then e.

Speaker 6 (21:00):
Acutive director right now? So I would say no. I
mean that the face of the face of you know,
your organization isn't present. So at the current moment, no,
They'll find someone and hopefully it can be someone who
can stand up and go to t it's oh, you
know with Roger Goodell, you know who represents the.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
Owners and they go from there.

Speaker 6 (21:21):
But the dynamics of the union and the NFL owners
is always what it's going to be. It's it's the
biggest union in regards to professional players, which makes it
really hard for the players to all ban together. And
it's you know, the NFL is the poorest of the
professional sports because the you know, lifetime of the athlete
is short. And it's there's a least amount of guaranteed

(21:45):
money and a lot of the guys that you're actually
creating policy for are not even in the.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
NFL yet, they're in college football. I mean that set
all along.

Speaker 6 (21:52):
If the NFLPA was smart, they would try to go
down to the college level and create another you know you,
or try to at least partner with whatever union ends
up coming from all the college football stuff that's changes
that are taking place, and that way they would at
least have a group of young men who understand exactly
what they're getting into once they get to the NFL

(22:13):
level with a lot of what they were trying to
negotiate and argue for at the college level. Because that
day is rapidly approaching. It's just a matter of when
not if.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
I mean thirty five million dollars like he's out of
because they didn't like and Florio had something on it
where he said, you know, it either could be because
of the rehab or conduct detrimental, because I think that
they wanted One of the reports I saw yesterday was
that they wanted him to get another surgery, and he
balked at it, and I think wanted to take the

(22:44):
rehab approach. They didn't like that, and that's why they
informed him earlier this week that he was being released.

Speaker 6 (22:50):
And now he's mean, I haven't read his contract. I mean,
I know, I think I've said this to you. My
eighth year, when I was going to training camp with
the Dolphins, I had had back surgery and you know,
I was having complications and issues with drop foot and
things from the surgery. And basically when I signed that
deal to go to training camp with the Dolphins, you know,

(23:11):
my agency was like, we can't recommend you sign this contract,
like this is not a contract that we would sign
up for us, Like, well, I want to get back
in there and have a chance to play. And they
sent me a separate letter basically saying like that, stating
that they had not advised me to sign this in
case that I had any you know issues moving forward

(23:31):
playing under that contract, like they would be liable for
in essence, and the contract stated that basically if I
had any injury that was a result of my back,
which is yeah, after breaking my back, that any injury
that I had as a result of that, you know,
you would not get any sort of payment. They're only

(23:52):
paying for rehab. If you did it with the team facilities,
you only get you know, surgery all the minute. If
it was with their medical staff, I mean, it was
as grimy of a deal as you could sign. And
I remember like contemplating a sitting in their players lounge
going like this stinks, Like I don't feel comfortable with
doing this because I don't feel protected by any means.
But if this is what I have to do to

(24:14):
you know, try to have a chance to keep you know,
continue to keep playing, this is what I'm going to do.
So now Christian Wilkins is an entirely different position. But
because the monies are so big, I'm sure there was
you know, language within the contract that probably, in the
event of an injury, forced him to go rehab or
maybe get looked at by you know, at least their doctors.
You always have a chance for a third party opinion.

(24:36):
But you know, there might have been stuff within the
within the contract that stated there who.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
Knows, So your agency made you sign a separate deal
saying that they recommended you not sign the other deal.

Speaker 6 (24:47):
Yes, yeah, it would be like you know, for the
parents out there, if if your kid's like, no, I'm.

Speaker 5 (24:52):
Going to this party.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
Dad.

Speaker 6 (24:53):
He's like, okay, all right, all right, you want to
do that?

Speaker 5 (24:55):
All right?

Speaker 6 (24:55):
Here, sign this all right, and if anything happens from this, no,
I'm taking your car. You're not gonna have any privileges.
You're pretty much gonna be grounded from the rest aside.
You're signing this now, going into it knowing exactly what
you're signing up for. I mean, and everyone would sign
up for as a sixteen years.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
And yeah, that is I think that's that's part of
the That's what I think about because I know that
you've talked about it before, but I always think about
and yeah, Christian Wilkins is in a different spot, but
in your situation, you were trying to find a way
to get back into the league. And if you do
become one of those players that's you know, navigating the
waters or you know, there's a lot of well known,

(25:37):
successful free agents that are still available, like guys out
there that are looking for deals, and we're already at
training camp and the options are there, and they're going
to be so limited and the contracts are probably going
to be so unappealing that it's like you're just gonna
have to take it roll the dice and bet on
yourself and hope you get enough reps to be able
to get something better next year. It's just it's wild

(25:59):
that I don't think a lot of people think about
just sort of the concessions you have to make just
to continue to pursue your career. And look, if it's
bad enough to where they're like, you need a second surgery,
maybe this is the end of the road for him too,
Who knows. I don't know what the hell a Jones
fracture is you're talking about Liz Frank.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
I don't know what Liz.

Speaker 6 (26:19):
Jones fracture is on the outside of the foot. It's
like one of the small metatarsals or whatever, and it's problematic,
like for me, like I had the Liz Frank, which
usually impacts like that first metatarsal on your big toe.
And I know it's hard for you to see it
because you have that crossover toe thing, so your toes
are like overlapped and all that.

Speaker 5 (26:39):
But usually when you have a a.

Speaker 6 (26:41):
Liz Frank, then you start naturally commensating putting weight on
the outside of your foot, so the next thing.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
That comes is a Jones fracture.

Speaker 6 (26:48):
So that's why I like when you hear about players
who get like a Liz Frank injury or a Jones fracture,
it's not good because there ends up being a lot
of other issues that come from it on either that
same foot or even like the other side with how
they go about compensating. And these owners and the medical
staffs are tied to them. They all know it, and
they'll play the percentages up even more so whatever, whether

(27:08):
it's within the contract or even when they start looking
at these players when they get to the age of thirty,
they're like, oh no, the body's going to break down.
They're more susceptible all these things. This is why we're
not going to offer you know, a guy as much money.
So that is like Trey Hendrickson a productive player without
a doubt, But are they concerned about him being able
to stay healthy and are they concerned about him keeping
his productivity up because of you know, you know, having

(27:30):
a hard time you'll stay healthy of course like that.
It's it's the ripe old age. And that's why every
time you see a player turned thirty, you hear all
of us you know, pundits or whatever you want to
call us, talk about it. Because it's real and it
happens within the negotiations.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
All right, So you're gonna feel like a bit of
a horse's ass here because you're more of a Gemini
guy when it comes to AI searching like and and
that's fine, I mean, no judging here.

Speaker 6 (27:53):
But wait, are you just really going to try to
correct wrong information?

Speaker 3 (27:57):
You go, they blame you. I really blame Gemini. I did.

Speaker 6 (28:03):
Anyway, Why are you bringing this up because you feel
like the need to correct it?

Speaker 4 (28:06):
No?

Speaker 2 (28:06):
No, no, So I went ahead and I went to
Grock and I typed in, can crossover toe lead to
a Jones fracture? For people that weren't listening? An hour one,
I admitted that I have crossover toe and it led
to Lorraina snapping her toes together on on air and
and people with foot fetishes.

Speaker 5 (28:25):
Throw out your ig handle real quick. Some people don't
want to see that on thissterday.

Speaker 7 (28:28):
Go ahead, Lorena, come on Radiomouth dot ray yeah r E,
I right, yeah, yeah. By the time you get through
radio Mouth, it's just there.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
So can crossover toe lead to a Jones fracture? From Grock? Yes,
a crossover dow can potentially contribute to a Jones fracture,
though it's not a direct cause. A crossover toe where
one toe off in the second crosses over the adjacent
toe due to deformity, Jesus or instability can alter or

(29:00):
foot mechanics and weight distribution. So I'm susceptible to the
Jones fracture as well too. So put that in your
foot fracture pipe and smoke a pal.

Speaker 6 (29:09):
Who know a radio host can have such a tough life.
Did you put that in your contract with Scotti?

Speaker 5 (29:17):
Scott? Hey, Scott, I need some injury protection.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
Across over and and I'll go to the to the
f s r p A if I have to to
try and get something done.

Speaker 6 (29:25):
Like you're talking about that president, I'm voting Ben Mallard
to the president.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Yeah, it's Ben the Ben's the president of the f
s r p A.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
That's where my vote is.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
He's the one we want representing us. This could not
come It at a worse time for for Christian Wilkins, correct, Like.

Speaker 5 (29:44):
Yeah, this is.

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Who's he running up to the latter too, Like Who's
who's he taking this dude to be? Like, hey, can
I get some of my money back? Like okay, buddy,
Like good luck with that.

Speaker 5 (29:55):
Well, hell, have a.

Speaker 6 (29:56):
Separate you know, set of teams and and uh you
know lawyer that it's going to take care.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
Of it, so he'll be fine.

Speaker 6 (30:02):
I mean it, that's I mean again, I don't want
to get down a long winded path here talking about this,
but that's one that's one of the things is like
that the PA is there to protect you, you know,
from a union standpoint, for all players, but you know,
individually you're still going to be able to file and
have an attorney help you out. So it's not as
big of a deal that there's not you know, executive

(30:23):
director yet, but it would it would be helpful.

Speaker 5 (30:25):
I mean, this is a big deal. You'd like to
draw a little attention to this.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
And now when you say you don't want to go
down a long winded path to get there, was that
a shot at LeVar or was that just.

Speaker 5 (30:34):
No no no no no no no.

Speaker 6 (30:35):
Well, Lorna thinks I talked as long as LeVar, which
is it can't be possible. Yeah, but no, really, it's
it's more about like I'm not a union guy like
you pay you know, ten fifteen, twenty thousand. I don't
know what the number is now every single player of
the league pays that and it goes in for your

(30:55):
union dues, and it pays for all the operations of
the union. And like, I'm not a guy who is
gonna use a lot of those benefits outside of like
what happens posts or et cetera. A lot of that
stuff you can set up for yourself, you know, a
lot of that stuff that you get, like you can
set up within your own you know, to have for
your you know, after retirement. Now some of the stuff

(31:17):
you can't. And so it's their good benefits, but most
like a lot of it you can. And also like
I'm you know, giving away fifteen twenty thousand and four,
you know, legal protections or things that you know, oftentimes
through a union, I'm not really gonna use. So and
I also like there's a group licensing deals, so you know,
you're sharing some of that revenue as well, which is
nice because if you're not that guy, you get some

(31:38):
of it, but if you are that guy, you're not gonna.

Speaker 5 (31:40):
Get as much as you could in some ways.

Speaker 6 (31:42):
So again it's a long winded conversation, but I've never
been a huge like union guy.

Speaker 3 (31:48):
Well, I do know this.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Uh, you're gonna get that work come up here soon
because we do something on this show.

Speaker 3 (31:53):
I think it was oh was it happening? Why actually
doing this?

Speaker 2 (31:56):
So I think that it was exactly a year ago today,
which is kind of strange, but exactly a year ago
today that we did the last edition of Headliner Lye.
All right, for those of you that listened to Brady
Quinn and I when we were dominating Sunday Nights here
on FSR, we had a segment called Headliner Lye put
together headlines and it was either an actual headline or

(32:18):
it was completely made up. Thus Headliner lie and we
would go to the calls and we'd have two participants
who would team up with either me or Brady and
we would try and stump the other guy's partner on
the air. What was great about Sunday Nights is majority
of the time everybody was half in the bag, I mean, butchered.

Speaker 3 (32:37):
We had people calling.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Remember the guy from Australia who called We're pretty sure,
We're pretty sure this guy ran over a wombat while
he was on the phone with us.

Speaker 6 (32:46):
We also asked him like way to make questions about
Foster's beer.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
Which he did not co sign that. Yeah, we don't
drink fastest. We hate falest.

Speaker 6 (32:56):
Oh no, no, it drinks kracky.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
So so we did this on this I mean, we
had guys call on Easter. One night, there was a
couple of guys from Ohio called on an Easter and
one guy this was in the middle of the pandemic
and one guy had no idea who Anthony Fauci was,
and upon further review, he was on the right side
of all that. So so it's uh. I think he

(33:21):
was quoted as saying, I'm not really sure who this
Fauci character is.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
You're referring to ever heard of them? And then the
other guy that was on the phone from Ohio opened
up his phone call and said he is.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Risen and he had been drinking all day. So it
was quite the wild time on Sunday nights. Now, people,
we are driving to work, so we don't expect you
to be hammered unless I.

Speaker 6 (33:47):
Mean, it's not the worst thing in the world if
you took today off it is Friday, yeah, but if
you do find yourself in the back of an uber
trying to get to work because you licked the liddle little.
