You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Ah, good morning ever, Buddy Well, Happy Aby, Aby Aby
Tuesday to Al. I'm Anthony guard Gatto for Jonas and
my man. I'm so pumped up. I love them.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
Brady Quinn, Good morning, Brady.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Good morning Anthony. How you doing, brother my man? I
was looking forward to this. I love your work. Buddy Well.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
I appreciate that, and you know, they gave me an
opportunity to work with some folks. You were the first
name that came to mind. Obviously I've been able to
see a little bit of you as well, but with
everything going on, knowing what a big Philly fan you are,
some of the recent events and things that have come
out in the college football AP pole. I think you're

(01:31):
probably signing more of a Penn State fan than anything else.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
But at least if you're in PA, if you're in pass.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Yeah. But when I was sitting there think about I
was like, there'd be no one better to work with
for the next couple of days than you, my friend.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
Well, I appreciate it, brother, you are the man.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
This is the.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
One of those great weeks where we're getting ready for
college football. The AP pole is out and I got
to pick your brain, all right, because we're gonna play game.
I'm going to give you is it Are they too high?
Are they too low? Is it just right? And uh,
we'll get you kind of into a home depot. By
the way, let's talk about it. Everyone knows first impressions

(02:12):
start with the first coat. That's why you could trust
Kills Primers for a smooth a professional fitis Kills Primers
now available exclusively at the home depot. If you're a pro,
you know, sponsored by the home Depot. All right, my brother,
let's get started right away, because Texas gets the top
spot arch and uh huopem horns.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, and look, I think they're ranked appropriately. Look in
both the ap pole and the College pole. They're sitting
at number one. A lot of it has to do
with arch Man and you talked about the anticipation of
him being the quarterback that I think everyone thinks he's
going to be. You know, his his the lineage of
greatness you've seen from paydon Eli, even if it's dad

(02:57):
arch which you know, I've always seen high lights of
arch I wasn't that old Anthony to be able to
watch to see our Archie Manning, you know, playing for
the Saints. But from all accounts, and you talk to
a lot of people, arch is probably closest to his
grandfather in the sense of his athleticism and what he
brings to the game. Is that fair to say? Yeah,

(03:18):
he could move. You know what's funny.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
When I had my son, I have two boys, fifteen
and twelve, and so I had my oldest Anthony. I
wrote a story for Esquire magazine. He was a Q
and A and it was with Archie Manning because I
wanted tips for fatherhood, and so I figured I got
to go to the master. So I went to Archie

(03:42):
and I go, all right, listen, I need tips, and
he said the number one tip was he had a
belt and it was a big old buckle on this
belt the number eight. And he said he used to
hang the belt in his room, in his bedroom so
they could see it, and anytime the boys out of hand,
he brought out that number right just to scare him.

(04:04):
He said, I only had to use it one time
when they they ransacked a Little League concession stand and
ate all the food.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
And that, which I mean, I'm sure there's more of that,
you know than just that story. You know, like seeing
those two interact. Now, there's no chance that was that
was That was the extent of what Peyton and Cooper
and Eli did and when they were young. It seems
like there's a lot more there. But I I digress.

(04:34):
That was smart. I mean you go you go to
the one of the masters and and how he managed
it obviously from a young age to getting older. But
I mean, look that that has a lot to do
with I think why Texas is where they are. They're
they're talented, they've recruited well, they've developed well. They've also
you know, subtly kind of hit the transfer portal where
they do have a number of you know, stars studded

(04:55):
players that I feel like they can lean on in
particular on defense to last years couple of years that's
probably been in the side of the football that hasn't
been talked about as much is how much more consistent
and how much better their defense has been at times,
Like I would have said two years ago, probably the
better side of the ball. You know, people look at
a Steve Sarkisian coach team because he's an offensive mine

(05:15):
and say, this guy's just gonna dial up plays. There
could be a high they're gonna win a fifty four
forty eight type shootout of a game that wasn't so
much the case. So I think there's a lot of
hype and anticipation. It's funny Anthony used to ask ourselves
is Texas back because everyone kept trying to pro clb
to be back right every year. Yeah, And I still

(05:39):
feel like though for me personally, I'm still asking the question.
I mean, their run last year was great, you know,
to watch what they're able to do their first year
in the SEC, but I do feel like I need
to see it in order to believe it, because there's
just something holding me back from wanting to put all

(05:59):
my eggs in that basket. Even though the ap pole,
the coach's pole has.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
So far, well, that's fascinating. You know, part of me
he's given Arch like the benefit of the dab. I
guess I liked what I saw. I'm curious if you
did too. But part of me just extrapolates that he's
going to be that great player, even though it probably
should take a little bit more time.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
No, I think you're right. The thing that stood out
to me the most though, was early on, and this
is just in comparison to who he was there with.
I remember going to see him practice and this is
back during a period of time when he just got
there as a freshman at Texas and quinn Ewers was hurt.
So Malik Murphy, who was a really big, strong arm
you know, still still playing college ball. That actually a

(06:43):
really good year last year at Duke, but transferred. You know,
he had a howitzer for an arm, big, you know,
a tall athlet, a kid, and Arch he was a
freshman like, yes, he looks small in comparison, but honestly,
quinn Ewers was the one that looked tiny like compared
to both of them, yours going and he was talking
about me being a first round pick I go. If

(07:04):
teams come watch and look at these three guys, they're
not gonna feel that way about it after they leave.
And you know, Arch kind of held his own. He
watched his ball. He's got a lot of a popper
zip on it. As they would say, he's a better
athlete than I think people realize. You saw I used to,
you know, see when he was being recruited some of
the highlights from high school. You're like, oh, okay, Like,

(07:25):
how good of an athlete is he? He can he
can get it done. I mean so much. So they're
putting in like a dual threat quarterback package for him,
even when Quinn Yewrs Is in there, just to get
him on the field. So I think he's got all
the tools, all the intangils from all accounts talking to
Steve Sarkisian, the work ethic, the mind behind the game,

(07:45):
which you'd expect because he's a manning but also how
he's approached college football at this day and age. So
I think that's one of the reasons, like and why
people like me are like, well, if he does what
he we think he's going to do, and he wants
to come out after this next year, he probably will
be the first overall pick because most people feel like
the apple didn't fall too far from the tree. Sure,

(08:07):
and if the film matches it combined with upside and
that's going. The last thing is people would be like, oh,
you went like a couple of years or whatever else
not the NFL. The NFL always looks at guys like
that and says, think about what I could do with
him if that's what he's already done after a year
of college football. They look at guys and think about potential.

(08:28):
That's what everyone gets drafted off of. A lot of
people confuse that for like the resume and what they've
already done at the college level. No, no, no, no, they
get drafted high because some team sees extraordinary talents and
ability in that player and they can take them even higher,
make them even better. All the college coaches think the
guys or excuse me, the NFL coaches think the guys

(08:50):
at the college level don't know what they're doing.

Speaker 5 (08:52):
So that's the reality of it, Like that's the truth.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Yeah, you're although all that said, I wish Arts was
in the field in that one play last year. You're
at in the shadows of the goal line. I thought,
Soark should have had arts on the field. Then yeah,
that's what spot you know. I know it's tough though,
when you.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Know, when you're putting a younger player in that spot too,
what do you say to Quinn? You weres and kid,
he's kind of been there through a lot of big games.
He's played well in those big games. You know, there's
there's a number of things like do you take the
ball out of his hand?

Speaker 3 (09:27):
Too?

Speaker 1 (09:28):
It's not an easy decision, as totally fair.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
I just when you're in the shadows of the goal
line and you have that athlete, you know, bigger, you know,
instead of running that play horizontal, you got arts to
run forward.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
I mean that was my only thing.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
But listen, I think the play call in general is
probably what you could pick at the most. Yeah. Yeah,
all right.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
Number two, let's get to it. You tease it.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Penn State is number two in the country, and everyone
ye out east in Pennsylvania is excited because both running
backs are back. Drew Aller is back. They went to
the portal. They got three good receivers.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
And the schedule dictates where it's Ohio State and Nebraska
and it's standing in the way of a perfect season.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
This is the team that I think, and I would
just I'll simply say this, If not now, then when
for Penn State. Yeah, because outside of that trip to Columbus,
which they get a bye before, and mind you, by
the way, I think their second toughest game on their
entire schedule is.

Speaker 5 (10:42):
Oregon at home. Yes, they get a bye before them.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
You know, you get three layups with Nevada, FIU, Villanova,
then a bye before you you face arguably your second
toughest opponent. So the schedule sets up extremely well for
Penn State to be prepared to beat their toughest opponents
and I think even get over that hump. So the

(11:05):
schedule's there for you. You look at the roster, Drew
allers back. He has the potential to be that number
one overall quarterback if he plays the way I think
he's capable of playing. They hit the portal hard. The
transfer portal was the one spot where they needed to
address the wide receiver position, and they did it in
a big way. You know, the Paynya kid. They've got

(11:28):
trebor Or Payana, the kid from Syracuse was highly productive.

Speaker 5 (11:31):
He was going for a lot in the transfer portal.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
I know that for a fact he's going to add
a huge element to this offense. You know, Kyron Hudson,
a talented player transfer from Southern cal You don't see
that very often. He's going to Penn State because again
a kid who showcased ability to impact the team, He's
going to be able to do that. And the last
one was Devonte Ross, to kid out of Troy, you
know he's going to be able to also make his

(11:55):
impact felt as well. So all three of those guys
I would suspect they got in the portal ad wide
receiver will impact them, help out Drew Aller and make
a big difference. And then at the tight end spot,
you know I played with Darnell with Dinkins, which is
Clil Dinkins down, so excited to excited to see him.
He's gonna be really good. Luke Reynolds is more of

(12:16):
that pass catching tight end They've got uh that you'll
see come out of there. Kind of replaced Tyler Ward
and not do as much. But offensively they should be
in any Kodal Nikki's second year their offensive coordinator, they
should be hitting on all cylinders. I mean again, you
pray everyone stays healthy, but there's nothing that should really
keeping them back.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
And defensively, again, a lot of guys returning.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Yeah, that you lose Abdual Carter, but you know they
had guys who've been stepping up kind of find their
way in their return and Livemacker has always been a
strong point, you know, the second theary that was somewhat
youthful last year gets guys back. So I just I
look at this team and I say, if not now,
then when, like the stars have a line for this
team to have every shot, every opportunity that they they

(13:00):
should be able to make it past, make it back
to the semi finals and back to a nation and
back to the championship game to win it all. That's
the team I would say. Now again, you go back
to the question I kind of through out there about
Texas something I'm feeling right, A lot of people probably
feel that way about James Franklin. Hey can't beat Ohio State,
can't win the big game all at well, they can't

(13:23):
until they do. And I think this is the year
where if you're a Penn State fan, you should feel
really good about this team's chance of winning it all.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
Well and that's here is always the question about Franklin.
They say, well, great recruiter, can build the program, but
can he be a winning coach? Can he win that
big game? Like that's what follows him around here? I mean, truthfully,
if I have one quibble, it's you gotta be able

(13:52):
to trust Aller and be a more aggressive offense.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
I mean that kind of out.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
They didn't even have the why that's last year all
you had was Warren is your big weapon and your
backs out of the backfield. But now there's no excuse,
Like you have to be able to give Alar a shot.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
And I think they will, you know, I think they
do have the bodies to do it. One of the
things we used to joke about Anthony was you be
put on film and it'd be like Velcrow coverage we
call it. You're looking out there like is anyone getting open? Nope,
every dB looks like they're stuck on that wide receiver
like Velcrow. And it felt like that at times watching
Penn State, like they couldn't separate, They couldn't seem to

(14:33):
find guys who would get open vertically. And maybe they'll
create some meshes or some rubs to be able to
get guys underneath, you know, free or or running in space.
But again, that doesn't really threaten a defense. You gotta
be able to threaten them down the field. Hudson for sure,
Pania for sure. Those those two will be able to
help out kind of loosening up the defense a bit.
But I also think you look at the fact you're

(14:55):
able to go in and you get to Ohio State's
old defensive coordinator. How that kind of worked out. There's
there's a lot more that plays into I think that
the big game as well versus Ohio State and Columbus
asked to just some of the strategicy behind it, if
you will. So I love everything they've done, uh this year.

(15:17):
I do think they're gonna put him themselves in a
great position to get back to what really was like
a bad you know, a few minutes at the end
of the Orange Bowl. I mean, they have someone notre
of fans. So I'll be the first to tell you
it worked out in our favor. But at the end,
just some of the decision making, it felt like Penn
State got a little tight and Marcus Freeman and the
fight and iris had been there all year at times,

(15:37):
you know, at least like kind of playing out some
tight games and making some decisions that ultimately won in
the game. It felt like, you know, that's one of
the things I think, if you're gonna be critical James
Franklin is in some of those tight games, is he
making the right decision? Because to your point about the offense,
there was times where like, you know, we were there
for Ohio State Penn State game and it felt like
he wasn't going for it when he should be. Yeah,

(15:58):
it's like, dude, you've got to be aggressive like this.
You're you got to take those shots, take those moments
because it's too good defensive teams. So when you get there,
you got to go for a fourth.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Down, have to And that's and that's it. That's why
it's all about this year. So you say, Penn stated
to you're good, Yeah, I actually would put them at one.
You know, I think, yeah, I think coming coming into
the season. I'm just saying, if you if you look
at what this team looks like, what they have coming back,

(16:29):
you can justify that. Now.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Now, one of the things I'll say is it's a
little different from the coaches poll. Coach Pole has them
my three you know eight po Pole has them at two.
The Coaches Poll always does. And this is this is
what's great about the Coach's Pool and you see it
come out, is they're basically telling you, hey, man, we
tried to get a bunch of those guys that are
on that team. We think they're really talented. That's what
the Coaches Poll is. They either recruited them in the
transfer portal or they recruited them out of high school.

(16:54):
And they're just going, yeah, based on the recruiting, based
on what I see, man, and I think that's a
pretty good staff, Like those guys should be really good.
And then the AP polls more of just kind of
a wide thought and you know, some of it's involved
around recruiting, some of it's just you know, their kind
of opinion or what they saw him do last year,
like a lot of these other factors. The Coach's Poll
was always simple. If you look at one to twenty five,

(17:17):
they're saying to you, like, that team's a talented team.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
That's why they're ranked where they're ranked.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
All right, we'll go to go through. I promise we'll
go a little quicker.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
I mean, I could I could do this all day
with it all day, go through every team.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
We'll go a little bit quicker.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
I gotta get your thoughts on preseason stuff that's happening.
Should doure big week joint practice with the Eagles in
Philly before the game on Saturday, we'll discuss that Eagles,
by the way, dodge in a big bullet. We'll tell
you about that as well. This is Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe. Brady Quinn, I'm Anthony Gargana went

(17:53):
for the guys.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, leve Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern, three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
Welcome back, Two Pros and a Cup of Joe.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
Brady Quinn, I'm Anthony Gargana went for the fellas as
we hang out.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
All right, my.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Brother, We're gonna go all day, but let's go quickly
to the other at least finish up the top five,
all right, and then a little bit later on we'll
finish the entire top twenty five.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
We're in the middle of it, are they right? So?

Speaker 1 (18:39):
Is it? Are they up down, just right? Where do
you like it?

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Ohio State comes in at three, and obviously it's all
about the question at quarterback and Jeremiah Smith's ridiculous. They
have all kinds of talent on defense. So number three,
do you like it?

Speaker 1 (18:59):
I do? I think for the points you kind of
made in regards to the talent, it's like a lot
of these big programs now, especially during this era of
nil and the transfer portal, they really don't have to rebuild.
They've got those guys waiting, and if they don't have
those guys, they'll go find them in the portal and
bring them in. But some of the top teams they
don't have an issue doing that because they've got that

(19:19):
next group. You know who's going to be coming through.
I mean, Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tay brendan Enis those three
are your best wide receivers. That's your best wide receiver room,
you know in college football, and I you know, whether
it's Jewel and Saying or Lincoln kne Holes, it doesn't matter.
You know, they're both very capable of the offense. Is
probably gonna look different if Saying's in there. In regards

(19:40):
to a lot of the quarterback run game versus Lincoln.
But regardless, they're throwing to the three of the best
receivers in college football. Defensively, there's some questions with Matt
Patricia taken over, and yes, some guys moved on. They
a lot of experience, but they're they're ridiculously talented. So
to me, when I look at the top five, at
least in the eight people Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia,

(20:02):
I don't have an issue with any of them.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
Like I think they're just ranked just about right.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
Clemson had, you know, is one of those years that
I think they're ready to kind of explode and get
back to that national stage where we're talking about them
competing for a national championship. I mean they really do.
They do. I mean they're and they're they're stacked again defensively,
that was always something that kind of carried them in
the past. And then Kate club Nick at quarterback. He'll
be a part of that conversation next spring when we

(20:28):
start talking about which guys you in the first round.
He'll be one of those guys. So they just they're
a team that, again very similar to some of the
others we talked about they're stacked with potential and talent.
And then and the difference though to me is they've
got the quarterback and Kate club Nick. So it just
comes down to their schedule, which is somewhat weaker playing
in the ACC, but they should be able to you know,

(20:51):
kind of make it through unscathed, to find themselves in
a really good position in the playoff.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
They think a club Nick, because I had an NFL guy,
personal guy tell me that better college player. I mean,
obviously a prospect, but more elite of of a college
player than the pro prospect, even though he's you know,
I mean obviously it hasn't been written.

Speaker 5 (21:13):
On right no.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
So so this is why I think pro guys will
say that about a guy like club Nick is when
we're talking about the other as the extraordinary piece or
talent that he's got. Y. You know, so if you
look at the quarterback class that's going to be coming
in next year's class, like Drew Aller's arm strong as
arm in the class, that's extraordinary, right, Lenora Sellers something

(21:35):
he's got extreme you know, dynamic, you know, ability to
run the football if he needs to. Uh So that's
more of his extraordinary talent. You can kind of go
through a lot of those guys. You know arch Manning
is you'd probably say, you know a number of things,
but when it comes to Clubnick, he kind of does
everything really really well.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
But there's there's.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
Not one thing that you look at and say, okay,
is does he have the strong asarm now? Is the
most athletic No. You know, you kind of go through
that list of things in comparison to other guys he's with,
and you could see how, like a pro guy would
say that because that's what they look at. You know,
at that level, you have to have the ability, You
have to have the ability just to be that much
more talented than the other guys you're going up against.

(22:16):
Otherwise it makes the coaching jobs a lot harder because
they have to scheme things up and look, at the
NFL level, talent is as equated as it gets, but
there's still those extraordinary talents. And that's kind of what
he's alluding to is in comparison to some of the
guys within his class, you know, he doesn't possess those
as much. Now. I think he'll be a really good

(22:38):
player at the next level because I think that's where
scouts get it wrong. They don't realize that there's a
lot of intangibles that you know, maybe they're not saying
on film that if they met with them, they were around.

Speaker 5 (22:47):
The kid, they'd see he's got all those things.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
And that he's going to give that team, you know,
whatever team that is a better chance than another guy
who might have an extraordinary ability with a strong arm,
but isn't as accurate, doesn't really know when to throw,
where to throw, the decision making portion.

Speaker 5 (23:02):
There's all those things that play a factor. So I
trust me. I've heard a lot of you know, a
lot of pro guys will.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Say things like this, and and here's the problem is
they usually don't put their name on it.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
And that's why it is, you know, listen, I mean
this was we were just talking about the class. And
he loves No Smyer right like obviously you know father
the whole thing.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
I mean, yeah, you know, he makes all the throws.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
He's not afraid, I mean, bit of a gun slinger,
you know, but he's because he's in love of them.
Like No Smire, he like assuming Art stays. He thinks
No Smier would be the top pick.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
I think if Alor has the year he's gonna have,
he'll be he'll he'll he'll be the top pick. And
it's hard to not to look at him that way
because he's he's just he's like your big typical yeah,
six foot five yeah. And and just his arm strength,
the way it pops so much more like those are
things that when when guys are still learning to throw
at anticipation, what's what's not a ton of guys Nessmeyer does.

(24:01):
He's much more nfl ready because of his dad and
because of his coaching, But when they get to that level,
there's still a learning curve. There's still a sense of
like timing, they've got to get down. The guys with
the stronger arms always are able to adapt a little
quicker because they can always make up for with their
arm strength. Sure, you know, so they can be a
little late and they'll still hit that window because the

(24:22):
windows open and close so much.

Speaker 5 (24:24):
Faster that level. You know, Nesmar's got.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
A good arm, is one of the stronger arms, but
it's not you know, he can do more special things
with his throws, and he can kind of make some
of those tighter window throws, but it's not as as
strong as what i'd say with aler by any means.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
So well, Ali, Yeah, you're right, man, dude, I've been
waiting for This is the perfect year for him to
really showcase it. He wasn't ready two years ago when
he had receivers. Last year we talked about it. So
your point is spot all, like, this is the year
for him to really shine, to really show off that arm.

Speaker 5 (24:57):
I think he has to.

Speaker 1 (24:58):
You know, it's like when you look at what he
could be, you know, going out in the draft against
I've probably named four of the guys right now. Yeah,
you know, between a guy like Leonora Steller's, you got
Gary muss Meyer, who you've mentioned, You've always had Kid
Club Nick, You've got the potential of Arch Manning. Like,
all those guys are going to be thrown in that
conversation of like could they potentially be you know, first

(25:20):
round picks, And that doesn't include a you know, a
huge you know, a bunch of others. Carson Beck, the
Miami quarterback, he didn't he didn't play great last year, right,
so he transfers to Miami, then he's But if you'll
get his take, two years ago, you would have said
he's on trajectory to be a top ten pick, like,
that's what it looks like, that's what how it feels
the ball coming out of his hands. So you know

(25:41):
there will be a lot of guys to talk about
that time. But I would say, for the sake of
the discussion about the ap pool, where they're at, like
top five, you might want to switch up the order,
but they all should be where they're at, and I
would throw Notre Dame in there at six. I think
the biggest concern there is obviously two things. Their quarterback
you know who's going to be the starter, and the

(26:02):
inexperience there. So well, there'll be a learning curve, especially
when you start the season on the road versus Miami,
who should be really good, and then you've got Texas
A and m at home, like you're for two toughest
games or at the start of the schedule, and then
how does your defense adapt to a new defensive coordinator
Chris ash comes in for Al Golden who's now the
defensive coordinator at the Bengals, And so I think you

(26:23):
can understand why they're where they are. But to me,
there's when I look at the top ten, like I
really don't see too many teams. I'm like, I don't
know if they should be in there, you know all that.
You know, the first team that I looked at and
I kind of actually two teams I look at and say, ah,
that gouda be a little overrated. There is Arizona State.
Just knowing what Cam Skataboo meant to that team, yes,

(26:45):
and like understanding like all right, like he was kind
of the engine at times. And I know Sam Levin
comes back, you know, spoke to him, spoke to Kenny Dillingham.

Speaker 5 (26:52):
I'm more curious to see.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
What they'll able, what they're going to be able to be,
you know, this year, and then Illinois right behind them
at eight.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
People at twelve.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Everybody's Illinois. Everyone's in love with them. And if you
go back and kind of watch some of those those
one score games, what was that Rutgers or you know, uh,
you go back through, uh that overtime game with Perdue. Yeah,
I mean Perdue was awful last year. You know, you
go into that. You know, Nebraska and Kansas they were
able to win those games. You know they beat Perdue,

(27:23):
but you go into some of those games just going, yeah,
I don't know, you know, sometimes those one score games
instead of winning, you know, going four and one or
you know, however you want to you know, look look
at it and going you know, five and you know
one one, and it usually it reverts back to the
mean where you're like splitting those games and you may
be going three and two, two and three. That's the
team that I'm really curious to see if they'll be

(27:44):
able to stay really in that conversation for a playoff spot,
because I think Michigan's gonna be much improved. I think
South Carolina's gonna be a handful for a lot of teams.
I think A and M is gonna be better than
you know, people think that's one of the first years
where I don't look at them as overrated old. This
is always gonna be a challenge in there.

Speaker 5 (28:01):
Texas Tech's got a ton of talent.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
Tennessee as well. Florida's gonna be better. I mean, I
just named what five six teams like all those teams,
and I think that I'm with you because listen, you
got to get the quarterbacks some time, but they got
a lot. Their class was ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
They got a lot to build on and if it
comes together quicker, watch out because they they could be
really good. And I just think everybody's looking at Illinois going, well,
they're Indiana this year.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
Yeah, and it's funny, like Indiana came out of nowhere, right.
I mean, Indiana was a team that went on what
a Nino story whatever it was, to start the season,
and they did it with a bunch of James Madison transfers.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
Curtis Rock came.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
In, you know, Kirk Scnetti put his stamp on everything
how they were going to do it, and their schedules
set up for them to get to that point where
basically until they played Ohio State, you know you were
you were like, all right, this team's could be one
of the best in college football, like a Cinderell story.
And again, maybe they'll be in that conversation too this year.
But I kind of looked at illinoiss like, they won

(29:06):
ten games. Can they get past that and get better
than that? I don't know.

Speaker 5 (29:11):
I mean, all Meer's back at quarterback.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
I like him. I like what I see from him,
and they've got some pieces obviously defensively. I mean, it's
just it's a team that I think a lot of
things went their way in twenty twenty four. I'm not
so sure that's going to happen this year. I'm not
so sure everything's going to work out the way they're
hoping for. They've got some like like a mini test.
They've got to go to Duke week two. That's not
going to be a layup for them, right you know,

(29:33):
they're playing that IU team, you know on the road
in week four. You start looking at their schedule a
little bit and between the at Duke at Indiana USC
early and then they've got to play Ohio State right there.
I mean, you could be sitting there saying like they're
they're a team with a you know, three and you
know four or three and what you know three and
three record, And you're sitting there saying, like, all right,

(29:55):
how good are they really going to be? They still
have to go to Washington stuff to go to Wisconsin.
I just I think it's a lot harder road ahead
this year for Illinois, and so I'm not as bullish
on them. I think that's a team that I'm really
curious see Arizona State too. As I kind of mentioned,
and as you go on down through the line in
the list, Hey.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
But real quickly, I gotta ask you what about Alabama?
So ty Simpson is going to be the starter. They
named him the starter. He didn't go into the portal.
He decided to fight it out. He wins the job.
People say, looks good.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
Where's bamat You're So this is the age old question
I think for a lot of coaches with where they're
at right now, because a lot of them, if they
if they feel like if they don't get that you know,
transferred portal quarterback, he's got a lot of hype with them,
then he's because he's got experience that like, oh no,
the season's kind of up in the hands. Like ty
Simpson's a talented kid. That's why he's at Alabama. You know,

(30:49):
That's why he didn't go anywhere else. It's it's there's
a there's a number of reasons, but we all tend
to forget that. Like I could make the same case
for Kenny Minschein CJ. Carr, Like two got highly high
tied of recruits who go to South Bend and get
the another battling for the quarterback job. And by the way,
whoever wins, you know, they'll be in great hands. But
they're even in better hands because they've got a backup

(31:09):
he's formidable too. But I always look at this and
I say, it's not so much about Ty Simpson, it's
about everything else side around him. I mean, you've got
legitimate All Americans in Caden Procter at tackle. He's going
to be a first round pick. Ryan Williams is sophomore,
true sophomore. Year's probably second best receiver stud I mean,
blazing fast. You know Deontay lost in a linebacker for them,

(31:31):
lt Overton off the edge, like their defense is going
to be stacked. Ye Offensively, they'll have the pieces. It
just comes down to his ability to execute. And in
a Kaitlin de Boor offense, Like if this was Nick Saban,
would they be ranked at at number eight in the
a Peo Pole. Probably not, we know, we probably say
we probably say there'll be like six or five, Like

(31:51):
you give them the benefit of the doubt because a Saban.
I don't think Klen de Boor has gotten the benefit
of the dow yet from fans because he hasn't done it.
You know, he hasn't. He hasn't been able to get
to the top of the mountain yet. So when he does,
I think he'll start getting that. But this team I
think is fairly ranks. You know. My expectations are for
them to be again a team that's led by, you know,

(32:12):
a more dominant defense. Offensively, they'll have the big plays
to Williams, but I think it'll be a much more
balanced attack with their ground game too.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
All right, all right, all right, real quick, let's get
to it. It's the tire rack play of the day.
Last night in Texas Great Baseball, the Rangers come all
the way back on Arizona and the Diamondbacks to win
seven to six.

is over. It tooking, it is there and the Rangers win.

Sometimes you can't get to everything in the world of
sports or entertainment. Good thing the guys are here to
bring you in case you missed it.

Speaker 6 (34:42):
Good morning everybody. Good morning Anthony, Good morning Brady.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
What's up? Please?

Speaker 5 (34:48):
Hey, guys, exciting I don't think.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
I don't think Anthony knows your Shenanigans yet. So uh
he has a quick like we go, do you? Oh yeah?

Speaker 4 (34:58):
Okay, oh yeah, oh yeah, we go way back.

Speaker 6 (35:00):
But uh yeah, I've definitely fit in some Shenanigans since
last time he and uh ant Man have worked together.
But it's always a pleasure to be back with you. Well, guys,
I got some stories here for you in case you
missed this. Uh just became public that Miles Garrett, of course,
Cleveland Brown's pass rusher, was pulled over for speeding just
hours after his team's preseason win against the Panthers this weekend,

(35:20):
just shortly after landing back in Cleveland. He was cited
going one hundred and a sixty mile p hour zone.
Of course, you know he is famously he famously flipped
his Porsche a few years ago and vowed to learn
his lesson and slow down well forty miles over the
over the speed limit might just be a little contradictory,
and of course he is supposed to be a little

(35:40):
bit of a leader there for Shador who was taken
in twice this offseason for speeding.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
I mean, Anthony is the Browns like the Georgia Bulldogs
of the NFL. Is that what we're going to sign out? Man?

Speaker 3 (35:52):
I feel sorry for my big Kevin Saveyevski sometimes all
of the all everything, it's just like he can't escape it. Man,
it comes from all directions. And actually I hate to
say this, but when I heard one hundred, I was like.

Speaker 1 (36:09):
I expected faster. I mean, you're not wrong. I literally
I was like, it was only only one hundred, right, Okay,
It's like it could have been worse, which is a terrible,
a terrible thing to think off of. Obviously everything that's
like having a chador, what's already happened to him. And
it's just, you know, it's it's needless. And look, I'm

(36:30):
not gonna act like, you know, when I was younger,
when I was in Cleveland, like I had never speed,
Like there were definitely times we'd speed, or you had
guys who had a nice car and they would you know,
they'd be like, hey, it's race that sort of thing.
But you know, it's just at this point his in
his career, in the stage of you know, his life.
You would have thought that with everything that's transpired, he'd

(36:51):
be further past all that it's not worth it. It's just it's.

Speaker 5 (36:54):
Just really not worth it.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
So it's unfortunate, and you know, you hope this stuff
will come to an end. But I mean, look, maybe
they just maybe they need to start patrolling better and
catching these guys left and right, and then there'll be
left with nothing else else to do. Then hire a driver,
you know, right, Maybe maybe maybe that's the move. Just
hire a driver, man, Dude, I don't know why you
don't deal it.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
Man, Just first, I hate ride.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
If you could take me, if I could be a
passenger in the back and sleep or get work done,
I'm in yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
Now do you guys?

Speaker 6 (37:24):
Would would you see players getting picked up from the
airport and getting drivers often liked Is there a good
percentage of them that do that or is their cars
just sitting there waiting ready to.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
Go when you come back from the game. You have
a It depends on how the team does it. So
how Cleveland used to do it, because they used to
fly into a hangar at Cleveland's airport and we'd get
on a bus, we'd bust from there. Over to Bria,
which was not far. It's like right across the way.
So most guys would you know, then get out and

(37:54):
go from the team practice facility. Then they'd go home.
Some some places they let you park at the airport.
They have like a separate hanger you do it at.
I was never on a team that did that, so
there's not there's something that, you know, they might have
a driver someone picked them up from the airport, taking
like leave from there. But for the most part, you'll
end up like getting on a bus, you know, loading

(38:15):
up all the equipment you add back to the facility.
It's a very long process. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
Yeah, Eagles did the same thing where you'd park at
the facility and then the bus would take you back.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
It's it's twenty minutes from the.

Speaker 5 (38:25):
Airport, guys.

Speaker 6 (38:27):
In case you missed this, I wouldn't normally bring up
a thirty year old running back who's looking for a team,
but hey, he's the Giant Killer Boston. Scott's looking for
a new team, reportedly in terrific shape, but he's working
out for maybe an old rival, the Commander's. Reportedly he
was working out for this weekend along with the Ravens
you think the kick return specialist running back Bus and

(38:47):
Scott's got a chance to land on either of those
two teams.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
That's always tough.

Speaker 4 (38:51):
Yeah, right, what do you think?

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Right? He's tiny, right, it was like five six. Yeah,
he's a little bowling ball.

Speaker 4 (39:00):
Yeah, he's like sprolls light.

Speaker 1 (39:02):
That's right. There you go like the other version. Yeah,
there's always a shot I could land on social With
injuries to running backs, I mean that there's always the
potential that you're looking for experience back, a guy who's
whether it's in the return game or you know what,
usually on third down. If you don't have a team
that hasn't had a guy who understands past protection, that's
always the way in like an older veteran running back

(39:23):
who have to solidified himself, he's got it. They got
to have someone who knows a am I getting a nickel?

Speaker 3 (39:29):
Here?

Speaker 1 (39:29):
Do I have the linebacker off this side? Like if
they know how to block and pass pro you can
make a roster if you're pitching. He actually could do that,
so I mean he would have a shot. He should
have a shot, guys.

Speaker 6 (39:41):
In case you missed it, it was teased yesterday that
Tomorrow's new Heights podcast, of course, hosted by Travis and
Jason Kelsey, will feature Travis's girlfriend Taylor Swift. She'll also
be debuting or teasing her new album twelve on twelve
or something like that. So that's gonna be a big
it's gonna be pulling some big numbers there for Taylor's
Anthony gonna listen to this.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
I got I love Kelsey, so I love Jason. So
he's a buddy. I have to uh, I got, I gotta,
I gotta say.

Speaker 3 (40:09):
I I can't believe how he how big he's gotten.
It's awesome, it really is. I give a lot of
I'm proud of him for us, We'll come right back
