(01:00):
morning to you. Jeff Schwartz, huh tag teaming it up
on a Thanksgiving Thursday. How are things with you?
Speaker 4 (01:07):
Fantastic? I was thinking last night as there was no
football on, which was very unfortunate. First time in like
a month, Brian, no Max, just nothing about how I'm
looking forward to frying my turkey today. I also throw
in some extra legs and wings, and just eating turkey
for multiple days in a row. I like turkey. I
know people think like Thanksgiving is you know, Turkey's mad. Whatever.
(01:29):
I fry my Turkey's delicious. I eat it for sandwiches
for days to come. And just watching ball uninterrupted for
hours on end Man and Thursday through basically Monday night.
And how excited and how prepared my body is for
that experience.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Well, first off, I love that you are pro Turkey
because the anti Turkey crowd has just been gaining momentum.
We talk about steam in the betting world, you know, like,
let's tick last Monday night, right, Like the total in
Ravens V chargers open at about forty seven and it's
(02:08):
steamed up to fifty one. It's a lot of steam
on the over. There's been a lot of steam on
being anti Turkey, and I'm not down for it. Just
not me at all.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Not me.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Yeah, Nope, you're not gonna happen. I love it, dude.
I know. Maybe because people don't know how to make turkey.
It's also possible that's it. There's there's a problem with
people that are that are not good around you know,
around the turkey. But I fry my turkey. I just
I checked this morning before I came upstairs to my office.
I have do a cold brine overnights. I do it
in the I injected with a creole butter last night,
(02:44):
and then I salt the skin and with I put
a little obviously some kosher sea salt, and then I
put some larris on there too. You lit a little
flavor on it. And the skin's fried. I mean, it's
gonna be fine no matter what. It's fried of peanut oil,
neat salt. But the salt pulls the water obviously out
of the bird a little bit. So I have to
(03:04):
drain a little bit of the pad. I mean, like
you just have to. You have to prepare correctly. And
I also go I do I do lunch Thanksgiving, So
I do so that that that knocks the meals out
for the rest of the day. I do the first
meal at lunch, and then the rest of the day.
I don't have to make dinner. Don't they make lunch tomorrow,
don't make lunch on Saturday. It's just it's a great
system we have here in this Shorts household.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
You got it. You got it set up correctly right there.
That's nice, and that's true. Anybody who's it we've all had.
I would assume some dry turkey not prepared correctly. And
if that's the only thing you've ever had, I get
why someone would Ah No, not me. It's stright. No,
you just haven't had it prepared correctly. That's what it
really comes down to. But what I want to know
(03:48):
is how many hours of football between today on Thanksgiving
and when the Monday night game wraps up. We're talking
Thursday Friday. There are a ton college games on Friday,
the full slate Saturday, full NFL Sunday. How many hours
would you estimate you're gonna watch of the ball buffet here,
(04:10):
all of it.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
I mean, I'm going to take so my parents are
in town. One actually go out of town tomorrow night
to visit a friend in California. So it's gonna be
my parents and my kids and today obviously ball buffet.
Tomorrow I have radio three separate times, so I'll be
watching that. That that allows me to isolate myself in
(04:33):
my office. And what I can do is one of
the shows that I do. We do our wonderful show
on Sundays, and then I do a show afterwards where
we're watching football. So I have a setup in my
in my office where I have a TV like a
regular TV with corrective direct TV that I have basically
just like a cheaper TV like aw hundred dollars TV.
(04:56):
It just has like the YouTube TV on it right,
and it's right above my computers. It's I just look
right above in four bocks. Any football right I want
above my computer. So I kind of the setup go
where I can watch ball in many different ways, Brian,
And so I will spend tomorrow, especially now in the
morning obviously no, but starting at noon tomorrow we have
very important college football games. Ye, Boise State plays new tomorrow,
(05:19):
Colorado plays at noon tomorrow, and then the Chiefs play
at three o'clock tomorrow, and then I got postgame radio,
and so I'm just I'm just gonna live the dream.
And Saturday morning we're gonna see Wicked. Okay, kids want
to see Wicketed. It's a little bit long. I looked
at tune out. It's like two forty I don't like.
And then I'll be home in time to watch Michigan
Ohio State, and the buffet continues all the way through
the night. Oregon plays at seven thirty on Saturday night.
(05:42):
So I'm spiritually prepared for this. It's it's a mental
it's a little tax and watch this much football. But
I also thinking about how we're not going to have this, Brian,
after this weekend for college football? This is it. It's
the last regular seas the weekend for college football.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
It's here ready, Yeah, it's the last full weekend the
regular season. That's crazy. How does this happen every single year?
I look up and I'm like, it's nearing its end?
How how is it nearing its end?
Speaker 4 (06:10):
Like?
Speaker 3 (06:11):
But we're here, man, this last Saturday of a full
slate to college ball.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
Man undefeated, Brian, I know, I know that's Organ. By
the way, for those who don't know, Organ is undefeated,
My alma mater, Organ undefeated.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
What happens if you know between us, is our friendship
going to be on you know, on thin ice sufficient.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Washington plus the points. I don't I don't disagree.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
I'm just saying if it's Ducks Irish in the layoffs here, yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
That would be something weird would have to happen, right,
because we would not where when will we meet?
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Well, well, that's true, right, Like.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
By weird, I mean you would have to win a
lot of games.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Well, can I get on my soapbox for a second
on do you want to hear this?
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Now?
Speaker 3 (06:59):
This i'm's from South Bend. For everybody out there that
might not know this, Okay, full disclosure, I'm from the
same town that Notre Dame is located in. I've been
a Notre Dame huge football fan my entire life. So
just make sure you understand that I need to preface it,
but I really do think this. This isn't just my
(07:20):
Notre Dame fandom, Jeff. It's garbage that Notre Dame is
not eligible for a first round by It's ridiculous. And
here's the reason why. When it was a four team
college football playoff, Notre Dame made it twice. There was
no issue then that they weren't in a conference that
didn't play a conference championship game. If they were one
(07:41):
of the top four teams, they were in the college
football Playoff. Now it's expanded to twelve teams, and now
it's an issue. Where's oh, you don't play a conference
championship game. You're not in a conference, therefore you can't
have a first round by. It's bs. If you are
one of the top ranked teams, why shouldn't you have
(08:01):
a first round by? That makes no sense to me
at all.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Okay, so this was obviously a push you get no
name to join a conference, right, that was part of
the of the push for this to write to make
this way. But this goes to a larger discussion that
we we certainly have Now, I'm automatic qualifiers. Are we
sure that automatic qualifiers? Basically saying that obviously you win
your conference, you're in, and obviously you get a playoff
(08:27):
a bye. Are we cern that this is the best system, Brian,
because I don't know if it is. And look, this
is look, I'm gonna come on, I know I'm a
I'm now an elitist snob. It's a big ten school,
the organ is. But a system that has Boise State
(08:48):
having a buye is probably not the best playoff system.
It's not right like and and I understand Boise State.
You guys have won year games. I think you're gonna
win tomorrow. I think you might cover tomorrow. I might
that in my in my in my account, right now,
but that's not the same as Notre Dame schedule. It's
(09:08):
not the same for to be fair of the Georgia's
schedule that they have two losses and you can reward
them with the playoff spot. I'm not against that idea,
like I think they're won the twelve best especially in
this given season, well the twelve best seams the country.
But a playoff by I mean if they were to
play right now, you know they would host, they would
(09:28):
host the five host would be a neutral site, but
they would play the five seed right in the in
their in their first game, which would be a quarterfinal.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Year.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
If the five seed beats essentially the Big twelve champion, well,
right now, the five seed is going to be either
organ of Ohio State. I feel pretty confident saying that,
right Brian, Like the loser of the big to them
chalmpgons OFIP game is probably the five seed. The winner
is number one in the country. Well, the number five
seed would then get the Big twelve champion. Right now,
it's Ohio States right in the rankings. They'd be twenty
one point favorites over Arizona State in the first game,
(09:57):
and then the second game they'd be twenty one point
favorites against the Boise States. I feel like the best
system right that the five seed is twenty one point
favorites over the four seed. Oh no, they feel like
the best system now in this year, and I'm I
have mostly been anti I could playoff expansion because I
(10:18):
don't think it matters. Like I don't think it's funny
we went we entered this season. Brian entered this season
with basically a playoff bubble of teams that could win
the championship in my opinion, obvious this has changed for everyone,
but it was Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon in Texas. For me,
those are the four teams. Guess who are the three
teams now? They could win a championship in my opinion, Georgia,
Ohio State, organ It hasn't changed, it's entire season. Yeah,
(10:42):
could Bama win if they're not bipolar in a given week, sure, Brian,
could Texas do it? I guess I don't trust their offense.
Don't think they're gon win this weekend? You know, can
can Old miss doo it? Yeah? They might not be
a playoff team though, so they might It might not
matter Notre Dame. Look uh, are they better than I think?
They play against Northern Illinois that one loss. Absolutely, are
(11:03):
they winning a championship? I don't know, Brian, maybe you
feel differently, but like they're part of that bubble. I
guess there'll be a playoff team that's like it. No
one else winning the championship. It's the same three teams
that I thought would be the same three teams to
start the season.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
I'll say this, it's it's more open than it normally,
is right. I don't think though, Yeah, it is. It's
a little more open than normal because I mean, look
at a team like Georgia. Georgia has been towering above
the rest for a few years now, and they're in
the middle of the pack right now. Of these playoff teams,
(11:41):
you know, they might be on the lower end right
now if we're talking about it, I hear you. But
look at the top. Look at the top three teams.
You know, Oregon, I hate to bring us up, but
they just survived against Wisconsin. I know a lot of travel,
they were worn out, that sort of thing. But Texas,
Texas is a world beaters. You know, Miami is the
(12:02):
three seed right now, They've played nobody. You know, so
is it a recipe for some upsets and for a
lower ranked team or lower seeded team to have a
deep run and challenge for a championship. Absolutely compared to
other years. Other years it was Bama, Georgia, Ohio State,
wake me up when they're in the final four. You know,
(12:23):
that's all it was. And this year it's it's a
lot different than it has been, I'll say that much.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
So there is the difference I think this year, Brian,
is there is no elite team, right, there are teams
like I think we agree like Oregon is a team
that that when everything's clicking, can win a championships. With
Ohio State, I'm very curious obviously sort of see organ
this weekend with a full weekend of rest, right, a
(12:49):
full week of rest, they really late by, see how
they played to aliviate some of those questions about whether
or not you know, it's a little you know, the
Wisconsin game was a flute. But then look we go
from those concert game was was two weeks ago. Right,
then you go last weekend, Brian, and look how many
teams struggled to win road games. They all lost except
(13:09):
Penn State. So I don't put much into again the
idea that like winning road games the end of the
college hoble season is hard winning road conference games. It
just always is. It's always a problem, even you're Irish.
This weekend, I think they're gonna beat usc and I
think they're gonna beat them quite handily. But it won't
surprise me if it was a tough matchup. I mean,
they're seven half away favorites, but usc Is is feisty enough.
(13:33):
It's a rivalry game. It's on the road for No.
Dame and another road game but us he's been a
home for a week. Its like this sets up for
well for this game to be much harder I think
than No Nay fans would like. It doesn't mean that
it's gonna they're gonna lose, but that's college football. I
I if you, if you do it multiple weeks in
a row, then I think I look at you and say, Okay,
(13:54):
that's a little bit of a problem. You know you.
But Oregon, that wasn't the case. For organ it wasn't.
These are other teams that Penn State didn't have that problem.
So that's that's where I go with this.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
Yeah, well that's where I think the path that's what's
really difficult. Could I see a lot of these teams
winning one, maybe two games, yeses, But to win three
or four if you don't have a first round by,
you got to win four games against the best teams
in college football. That's really difficult. So that's where I
look at again my Irish not being eligible for a
(14:28):
first round by, and it's like, that's a huge difference
between winning three games to win a title in four
games to win a title. That's just a lot of attrition.
You get tired, that's the whole thing.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
No, you're not wrong on that. It makes it a
lot more difficult, absolutely right. But you know this isn't
they agree to. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Yeah, that's sort of the way.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
I mean, it's not their fault, per se, but this
is the system, and they try to use their leverse
get no name to join a conference. And I do
wonder after this year if there's going to be talk
immediate talk about a different system, especially if and what's
interesting is a fourteen playoff would have left SEC champion
maybe out this year, which would have changed all these
things anyway. Man, But I am curious to see sort
(15:12):
of the difference in how we approach this moving forward.
If those SEC and Big ten powers aren't happy with
how this turns out for.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Them, yeah, we can revisit this because it's very similar
with the NFL. If you win your trash division, I'm
for you getting a playoff berth, but I'm not for
you getting a home playoff game on top of that.
That's never made sense to me. And it's similar to
what we have in college football where I'm not against
(15:40):
Boise State being in the College football Playoff, but I'm
against them having a first round by if there are
teams ranked higher than they are. So I think it's
very similar to the NFL. I haven't gotten the home
playoff game. You can't be four wins. Worse right, you're
a division champion, you know, quote unquote there have been
(16:02):
division champions that were eight and eight. They're hosting twelve
and four teams back when we played sixteen games. That
should never be the case.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
No, that I that I think I'm moving to a
more agreement even though the NFL. It's it's funny, man.
The NFL and college are obviously two different games, but
they're sort of becoming the same playoff structure and a
little bit of the parody because of the Nils turning
them into you know, there's just there's more parody, right,
(16:31):
There's more, there's more losses, there's more question about who's
gonna win. It sort of feels like the NFL a
lot more than than we've seen in recent years. Obviously.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Yeah, no, I agree with that. I think NIL has
a lot to do with that, for sure. It's it's
much different, and I think that's good. That's been the
secret sauce of the NFL for so long, parody, and
we're saying at least more of it in college football
than we're used to think.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Agreed, And that actually is makes it I think more
fun because you, as we mentioned, there's not there's not
a team right now who we think is an elite
like going to win the championship. I think there's teams again,
they're in that bubble for me, but I like, again
where a couple of these teams are at. But this weekend,
(17:20):
next weekend, the weekend after man, some of these playoff
games are gonna be fun because the spreads are going
to be seven points or less. That's you know, that
that's in college football. That's gond of Prime upset territory.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
No, it's gonna be a lot of fun, all right,
football front and center, you know, the ball buffet. We
got a lot to talk about. That's not the only thing.
I know. You're all over this NBA cup, Jeff, you
got some some hot takes. You want to get out there?
Speaker 4 (17:44):
I can't. I can't deal with the floors. What do
we say? Look, I am an organ guy. I understand
our basketball court. Yeah, yeah, frustrated. We've actually changed it
this year though, looks a little better this year. But
but Brian, it's too much. It's a little man.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
It is it's it is aggressive, there's no doubt. But
we'll have some a few non football things to say.
I'd say a strong like seven percent of the show, maybe, Jeff,
non football. Maybe, I don't know, maybe maybe five percent
of that is Thanksgiving.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Really there's a little bit aggressive.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
But let's let's see.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
Is there is there is there NBA today.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
On the on the rundown here?
Speaker 4 (18:28):
No? No, not is there NBA like in like today,
like in in uh in on the schedule on the.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Football Oh okay, just like just games on the on
the calendar on a Friday or on a Thursday. No,
there's nothing on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
There is some day today.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Yeah, you get some black friends. It's the NFL has
just moved in, like will take this, and Thanksgiving will
take that.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
Christmas Day day is even the Cultura will playoff, put
themselves up. It's a Chiefs game. Yeah. It just seems
like in crazy because the NFL can start doing Saturdays
next week and the NFL just just rules all you
have no NBA today. I'm surprised they don't put like
the Lakers and Celtics today, like right at four thirty
(19:16):
pm Eastern.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Yeah. Now the Commissioner Silver is like, yeah, we'll sit
this one out. We'll eat turkey at home and watch
the NFL because that's that's what the most of the
public's gonna be doing as well. All Right, we've got
a lot to do here. Jeff coming up next. The
conversation about this team is about as different as it
possibly could be. We'll lay that out for you. I'm
(19:38):
Brian now, he's Jeff Schwartz. We're in for Two Pros
and a Cup of Joe right here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Arrington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
It is Fox Sports Radio. Ryan know he's Jeff Schwartz.
Weren't for two Pros and a Cup of Joe Live
from the Tyraq dot Com Studios. I know you get
fired up for a little all nightmare long from Metallica
every time it comes on the airwaves here, Joe, that's
right because I know you right like done radio for
(20:18):
a while here. I saw you play offensive line. You
can't tell me you don't have any metal on your playlist, Like, no,
I don't. But that just doesn't seem right, you know,
because you played with some edge out there.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
You know that was like it was it was an
electric dancing music. Man, it gets a you know, I.
Speaker 3 (20:38):
Don't know it was. There's a different edge on the
football field, you know what I mean? Like when I
watched him, Like, that's not R and B edge, that's
not edge, that's metal edge right there. I guess I
was wrong all these years, all these.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Years, you were wrong about about the edge I got
from listening to not listen to metal. Now it's just
never It's never been my thing, man, Yeah, never been
my thing.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Maybe you just haven't been pointed in the right direction.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
I don't know, Lama goddess direction store right now to
go pick it up for Black Friday deal man.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
That brings back memories. I don't know if you ever
had this as a kid. So back in Indiana, South Bend, Indiana,
there was a record store. It was named Orbit Music,
and they would do Midnight Madness. So the new albums
they would come out at midnight on Monday. They'd basically
be released on Tuesday morning, and so you could go
(21:35):
there at midnight and pick up the latest album, you know, CD, whatever,
and it was just a fun thing to do. It
was like, yeah, let's go out midnight Madness, the new
Pantera album comes out whatever, and we'd go do it.
Would you do anything like that music wise?
Speaker 4 (21:51):
Uh no, I don't think so. I was not big
until like getting albums essentially. But my comment on the
Black Friday thing is can we go back to when
it was actually just on Friday? Like now I feel
like we've lost all the lore of it because it
basically starts a tek s goo with Black Friday deals.
(22:13):
I've been going on Amazon and looking at Black Friday
like ads for weeks now. I don't need anything either,
Like I have nothing I need. I will probably buy
stuff just because it might be on sale.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
So you are anti two week sales. You just want
one day you got.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
It's it's just aggressive. It's just aggressive in my mind.
It's a little aggressive. It is what it is. I mean,
you know, it's such as life. It's just a little aggressive.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
See I'm detecting a theme here. You know. It's a
little aggressive with Black Friday deals, like the prolonged deals.
It's a little aggressive with metal music, right, Like I'm
sensing a theme.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
I mean. I was the Panthers game this past weekend,
Panthers Chiefs, and there was some loud they played it
like a metal song. One time I turned to Alex
I was like, this is this aggressive, isn't it? But
He's like, yeah, Dad, it's a little loud. I'm I'm
equo opportunity. It doesn't matter where I'm at. It's you know,
it's I don't do loud noises very well. Isn't great
as a parent. It's one of those things where it's
(23:12):
sort of like guys, me crazy, like something like something
like I don't want non loud music, but sometimes that
they like the raw. It's just kind of like it
kind of makes me, you know, tick a little bit. Man.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
I wonder what song it was, because listen, they're not
playing anything too crazy at an NFL game. You know
they might. They've got Metallica left and right on the playlist,
and there are some good songs. But man, all I'm
saying is there's stuff way more aggressive than you know
what I'm saying, right, like if that's aggressive on the
(23:45):
on the Schwartz media.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
It was just very it was really loud. I turned
on some of the guy next to her, was like,
is this kind of loud? He's like yeah, it's kind
of like them like like it was. It wasn't great.
I think I teased. I didn't teach you guys. I
think I told you I was gonna be in the
sideline for that game. And uh I saw that passed
got revoked to night before. It was kind kind of
a bummer. Yeah, really yeah, it was kind of bummer.
(24:06):
Just didn't it just didn't. It just didn't happen. My
son was great with it, though. He rolled with the
punches but we did. We had agreed time listen to
you guys in the radio. Took me. It took me,
like he saw me text my way through. It took
me many minutes to find the station to Charlotte, but
I got it. It was nice to hear you guys
who foot it was Richard Jared was filling in.
Speaker 3 (24:23):
It was just me and Crack, just you and oh yeah, he.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
Was okay, nice, it's good. It's good to hear your voices.
And I did. I wanted the Crack Challenge again this week,
so uh, humble brag man. Yeah, yeah, I think I
don't know. I don't know what your pick, so I
don know what my picks were.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
You were three, one and one. I was three and two.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
I got hooked on the the Bears. I got plus
three point five all week and then come, you know,
come obviously when it's time to make it, to make
your pick, it's three.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
At least you got hooked with a tie. Yes, I
got hooked with the loss earlier in the year. That
was disgusting. If I can whine for a second, it
was I'll never forget it. It was Jacksonville. They were
hosting Indianapolis. It's a house of horrors for Indy. They
go to Jacksonville and just lose and lose and lose.
They cannot get out of their own way in Jacksonville.
(25:11):
And so I like Jacksonville all week and then right
before we had to make our picks and the crack
challenge for those that don't know, we make our picks
ten minutes before the early games kickoff, and that's when
the lines are the most efficient. It's the worst time
to be picking games. And that's why the challenge is
so challenging. And so it ticked up to Jacksonville minus
(25:32):
three and a half, and I'm like, screw it. I've
liked it all week. Fine, I'll lay the three and
a half. They were up by fourteen. Jacksonville had a
fourteen point lead.
Speaker 4 (25:43):
Remember that game.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Yeah, like late in the fourth quarter and Joe Flaco
just as like, let's go on seventy seventy yard drives
and score two touchdowns and Jacksonville wins by three and
I get hooked. I lost that game because I got hooked.
So at least you get hooked. It was a late
you know, line movement that cost you, but you got
(26:05):
the tie. It's better for you there. Hey, let me
throw an NFL yeah question at you. Okay, It's funny
thinking about the Lions. They're playing on Thanksgiving. They get
everything started against the Bears, and how many years Jeff
was the conversation, do we have to keep watching the
(26:26):
Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day? And now the question is
who's beating the Lions? Think how dramatically that has changed,
and what Dan Campbell has done with that franchise. It
wasn't that long ago that all you heard was get
the Lions off of my TV set on Thanksgiving. I'm
(26:49):
trying to enjoy the day. And now it's like, who's
stopping this machine. It's crazy how much it's changed.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
I love the fact that the Wise has been playing
on Giving. This is nineteen thirty four, nineteen thirty four,
and it's because their owner wanted more fans come to
the crowd, I come to the crowd, more fans to
be in the crowd for their games. He thought that
was like the way to do it. And they sold
off the stadium the first time, and they had turned
(27:18):
people away at the gates, and so they played every
Thanksgiving since then nineteen seventy eight. The lines of Cowboys
apposed the game with Thanksgiving. Every year, Detroit plays the
early game, followed by Dallas in late afternoon, and then
obviously the primetime matchup. Now is a thing that's been
about ten years old, and the ones I have not
been done on Thanksgiving until recent memory. Even last year.
(27:42):
I think they had a tough loss to the Packers.
They've actually, wow, they've lost seven straight. Yeah, yeah, Spikings
Bears twice, Texans Bears, Buffalo, and green Bay. Look. I
spent a couple months in Detroit before Dan Campbell's twenty
six with with Caldwell, and I experienced sort of what
(28:05):
I call, for lack of a better term, like the
stench of losing of a losing franchise. I just come
from the Giants. Now, we did it winning when I
was with New York. But you walk in that building, Brian,
and there are four Lombardi trophies that sit in the
front room of that building, Okay, And you get to
Detroit and you could sort of sense like this is
(28:26):
not the same as the Giants, right. And we had
we had a a preseason game where we had a
three and out to start to start the start the game,
and we got booed by the fans. Okay, booed in
a precosson game. That doesn't happen in New York, right,
that happened in Kansas City, you know. But the Lions
(28:47):
fans and that's that's who they are and that's what
they'd been. But like that's the cential losing, all right. Yeah,
And it takes a force, extreme force to break your
franchise of that. Dan Campbell that extreme force he forced
that out of this franchise. And you get to a
point now where we talk about them, to your point
(29:08):
about them like being the super Bowl favorite, I can't
imagine in the history of that franchis the Edmond super
Bowl favorite heading the Thanksgiving and the point where they
are favored by ten points in this game and I
get it to public play. I have laid the ten points, Brian. Yeah,
I'm tired of betting against them every week, which I
(29:28):
do every single week, and they can continue to cover.
I mean, they are playing such good football right now,
and they are a team that we look at as
a as a legitimate, legitimate chance to win a super
Bowl this season, which even just you know, two years ago,
you wouldn't even have considered that.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Yeah, it is crazy how how much it has changed.
And you think about just Dan Campbell's first year. So
let's rewind with the Matt Patricia era. Okay, so this
is twenty eighteen. Just year by year their record, So
six and ten in twenty eighteen, followed by three, twelve
and one, five and eleven. That was with Patricia. He
(30:10):
got fired, Darryl Bevel took over, he was the interim
head coach. Then you get Dan Campbell. Dan Campbell took
over in twenty twenty one. So first year was a wreck.
They were three thirteen and one. Very next year nine
to eight, and ever since then they've been cooking with grease.
Twelve and five, made it to the NFC Championship Game
last season against the Niners. This season ten and one.
(30:33):
Think about that. Patricia eras six and ten, three twelve
and one, five and eleven, and now they are where
they are. It is it's crazy how much it's turned around.
And some of these numbers. You could just play games
with these numbers with the current players, and Jared Goff
is one of them. The last three home games Jeff
(30:54):
for Jared Goff nine touchdown passes, eight incomplete pass He's
got more touchdown passes than incomplete incomplete passes in the
last three games, no interceptions either. And you could do
that with Jamiir Gibbs and David Montgomery and I'm and
Ross Saint Brown and the list goes on and on.
So I guess the question becomes, who's the best candidate
(31:18):
to trip them up? And what's their achilles heel that
could do them in? Do you see one?
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Well, the best candidate to trip them up is probably
Buffalo a couple of weeks. But in the NFC, it's
the Eagles, right, I mean, I think the NFC feels,
for lack of a better way to say it, like settled,
Like it's Lions Eagles, that's it. Like there's no one
else the NFC right now. I don't think anyone's gonna
get there. When you look at the whether the Niners
are falling off, you look at the rest of the
(31:46):
NFC West, you look at you know, the Commanders, and
what's happened to them in the South. I mean, I
think I think Tap actually is a pretty feisty team, Brian,
but they're not winning. They're not winning that the NFC,
it's those two teams coming for a clash and NFC
Championship week end in Detroit. It feels like right where
they're gonna meet up. And they both got good offensive
defensive lines. They got good quarterbacks and good weapons, and
(32:09):
I think that the Eagles defense is vastly underrated. They're
playing good football right now, and they're healthier. They're much healthier,
which is an important factors we get to the stretch,
especially on defensively. So I know Brandon Graham just got hurt,
but they're pretty whole otherwise. So I think those two
are in a closure course to play. And then they
look in any playoff game, Man, anything could happen, right, Brian,
(32:31):
So that that feels like the spot where they would
get tripped down there. They might lose a game obviously
heading into you know, in the postseason, but it does
fuck Buffalo next weekend and then the Eagles in the
answer Chaship game.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
Yeah, it does seem like that. I'm just looking at
the pass rush, right, No, Aiden Hutchinson. That hurts. They
did pick up Zadarias Smith, but that's not Hutchinson, right,
So you're thinking about team how about green Bay?
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Right?
Speaker 3 (33:02):
Like the divisional opponent, but they protect the quarterback really well.
They allow the fewest sacks in the NFL. And if yeah,
I'm saying like the Packers could give the Lions a
tough test in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
Yeah, they played in Green Bay a few weeks when
the Life dominated that game.
Speaker 3 (33:20):
Ryan, I know, I know, I'm just thinking about the
ingredients of an upsit though. It's like, if you can
protect the quarterback and the Lions they don't have as
good of a pass rush as they would with Hutchinson.
Speaker 4 (33:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Yeah, if Jordan Love could just stop turning the football over,
that's what did him in in that game. That's a
low scoring game, but you had to pick six, right
like that?
Speaker 4 (33:40):
I like. I like the Packers by the way, tonight too.
If we did a hey, we actually should probably we
should probably text Crack and include games this weekend. I mean,
like today, right, Are we not doing that? Just only
games on Sunday? No?
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Yeah, the Crack challenges ten minutes before the early games kick.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
I know.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
I guess you're right because I like the Packers and
Lions are they're my conc test this week and them
have to choose to other games come only. But if
they win all include them. I'll tell Crack I won those, right,
I'll be a purf. I'll be I'll be like like
anyone on the internet, who who who goes out picks
and uh and so look the Lions, man, it's it.
(34:20):
They They've built their team inside out right, offensive line,
defensive line, linebacker, safety, running back, which again, to me,
you have the running back only if you sort of
have everyone else set up. They have wide receivers. Yes,
the injuries on defense are not great, and they could
hamper them at some point, but when their offense scores
so many freaking points, Brian, it does not matter. Right.
(34:42):
But if you find a team that can keep up
with you, like like the Eagles can't, like Buffalo can,
a couple of weeks that obviously can can maybe hamper
their ability to to to win at the level they
win at. So yeah, I think that there's not much
to worry about with them and the Jared off thing outside.
(35:02):
I mean, he won in Green Bay a few weeks ago,
outside at night in cold weather. Last year they went
to San Francisco and ancy champions ghame. It's not why
they lost, was the weather? Right? I mean er, So
like I feel like this sort of theme is over,
which I will say for tonight's game, the whole TUA
doesn't play well in cold weather. That STORYLFE was a
little overblown because they scored thirty five points in the
(35:25):
snow last year in Buffalo. Like I feel like we're
making that a little bit, a little bit too much
of the storyline at times for some of these quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Interesting. All right, all right, Well, we have a lot

see this show posted right after we get off the year. Okay,
so my Miami dolphin's over here, Jeff, you are circling
the Green Bay Packers in this game, and you alluded
to this just a couple of minutes ago. But the
Fins have not fared well in the cold. No, okay,
(36:48):
so it's up to you to determine how big of
a factor this is in the upcoming game. So they
have lost eleven consecutive games when the ten temperature is
below forty degrees, eleven in a row. So it's going
to be twenty eight degrees. That's the expected forecast for
(37:09):
this game in Lembo Field, right, So twenty eight degrees.
The wind chill is going to make it feel like nineteen.
And I don't know if you're like me, but I'm like,
oh no, nineteen, oh gosh. But they haven't won a
game eleven straight losses in sub forty degree weather.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Jeff, Well, you grew up in the cold, so you
know how it feels. I'm not sorry to mock it
as you did, ohete. I mean for a lot of us,
nineteen degrees is kind of chilly. I'm trying, Okay. So
the reason why I want to handicap this game with
out the cold is because I think it's a little overblown, right, Like, yes,
they lost those games, but they lost was it thirty
eight thirty five in the snow last year two years
ago in Buffalo, Like, it's not two his fault. We
(37:50):
all look at what happened last year, right, and.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
That was Remember that was Skyler Thompson. Remember the backup
tool was out he had the concussion issues.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
Yeah, so look, I stand the last time we saw
them playing the cold cold it was the Kansas City.
Now that that game last year was historically cold, right,
It wasn't just cold for it was it was the
coldest that I had been ever, right, Like it was
one of those games where it was it was completely cold.
So I understand looking at that game and maybe making
you know, an unfortunate conclusion about you know what what
(38:23):
what this might be. I think though, that the Packers
are one of the most underrated teams in the sport
right now, and that's why I like them in this game. Brian,
they they are eight and three. I think I think
we've forgotten that, and I understand that at times. I
get it. At times they've won some close games, well
(38:44):
that's part of the NFL. I've also lost close games too.
The lost game by five, lost game by by two,
like that's that's that's the NFL. They run the ball
really well, they played really good defense this year compared
to previous Packers teams, and I think on a short
week at home, the way their ability to run the football,
and I think pressure the Dolphins dephensive line and Tua
is the reason why I like them tonight more than
(39:06):
just oh they're playing the cold and that's why. No, no, no,
no no. So that's that's my take on this one,
is that I like them for that reason.
Speaker 3 (39:15):
Yeah. I think, listen, if you're handicapping this game, I
don't think the Dolphins track record in the cold should
be the main thing you look at. Maybe someone would
disagree with me there, but I think the way you're
looking at it makes sense to me. The cold like
it's nineteen degrees. It's not the Kansas City game right
(39:36):
where it's historically cold. It's gonna feel like nineteen degrees.
It's actually twenty eight degrees out. So I think that's
more like the cherry on top of the handicap. If
you are like, hey, I really think this Packers team
is just better. It's a tougher spot that Miami is in.
And oh, by the way, Miami hasn't fared well in
(39:56):
sub forty degree weather. I think that's the old the
way instead of oh, dolphins in the cold, yeah, definitely
fade them. I wouldn't look at it that way.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
I wouldn't either. The problem is, like all the publics
are looking at that way. It's going to ruin my
wager because I'm gonna be on the on the public
side here.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
You don't like that, huh? Like our guy Bill Krackenberger,
he's turned you away from the public side.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
You know, I will admit that.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
What's that It's not always it's not always the wrong
Oh no, no, no, sometimes it is the right side.
It still feels kind of funky, though, doesn't it. You know,
it's still you won, but you still feel a little square. Yes, yeah,
exactly all right? Coming up next, would this be the
best team accomplishment of all time
