Speaker 1 (00:01):
Don't listening to sports. Oh what's going on everybody? Hope
you're enjoying your Monday morning. Here. Lots to get into.
Lots of ball. When I say ball, I mean football.
Also All Star weekend in the NBA. Lot of fun.
Tiger Woods maybe making appearance or two in this shows.
We'll have a lot of fun. We're broadcasting live from
(00:22):
the tirect dot com studios. Tirect dot com will help
get you there an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free
road hazard protection, and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tirect
dot com the way tire buying should be. So we
dived straight in with our guy Jeff Schwartz over here.
I tell you what. This isn't quite heavy metal music
(00:45):
in the background, but it's it's close. It's the kissing
cousin and one man that I think of that has
a funness in his heart for heavy metal, Jeff Schwartz.
How you doing today, Bud? Hey man, I'm just happy
the overhit last night. I was looking at it. I
was like, it was like three twenty nine in the length.
I was like, you guys, like these guys don't play
defense in this game. Come on, give me the over
(01:06):
in it. Um, so you know, still lack of defense
lest night happens, but glad to be here with you, buddy.
Uh miss talking talking football with you yesterday. It's a
weird transition, right, You go right from lots and lots
of football for weeks and weeks and weeks to like
booom basketball and then now basketball is off for like
four days. So um, the tradition HiT's you pretty hard,
(01:28):
you know what. That is a great point right there
where I never quite thought about how stupid the timeline
is for the NBA. Why on earth would you have
your All Star break right after the NFL season ends.
What are you doing? I mean, that's your time to shine.
This that's the weekend where guys like you and me Jeffrey,
(01:50):
like what do I do? Remember like Tom Brady had
that meme what do I do with my hands? Like
that's how we felt this weekend and there was no
real NBA. I mean, it's the same reason they start
on on Halloween. It's the same reason they had four
primetime game marquee games on Christmas when the NFL played
like the Packers, Cowboys and Giants on Christmas. Like it's
(02:13):
it's the same reason they never do anything. It feels
like for the fans, right, I mean, yeah, like, would
it be great to have to have had basketball Friday?
And it was obviously there was a SKO position Saturday
that was more entertaining than I think we've had in
the past, especially with the dunk contest. And then you
know the game last night, if you want to call
a game, sure, um, you know it was as Jalen
(02:34):
Brown sad a glorified layup line. Um. And yeah, and
then they're off I think until Thursday or Fridays when
they start playing basketball again, and we're sitting here sports
fans like, oh, okay, well, I guess I'll dive deep
into college basketball for the next four days. It's it's
a missed by the NBA not playing the next you know,
the next week basically yeah, yeah, And how about the
(02:57):
rock and the XFL is like all right, cool, Oh,
I guess maybe some sports fans that are looking for
something to watch watch our product for a little bit.
You know, it's not a bad weekend to launch. That's
all I'm saying. I don't think that you adjusted your
plans to watch XFL Action. I'm just saying, if you
found yourself in front of your TV and there wasn't
(03:17):
a college game to your liking. Maybe you watched football
for a couple of minutes. I'll tell you what I
had it on. Um I well can I I'll give
you a quick a quick brag for a second. I
don't often talk to my son very much about like
my playing career. He was I retired, he was two,
and this doesn't come up very much, Like I mean,
I played football, but explained to him why I was
(03:38):
too good to play in the XFL was pretty fun.
It was what did that conversation sound like? He was like,
He's like, well, Daddy, why like why That's like he's like,
why can't you play in the XFL. I'm like, I'm like, well,
you know, I was like a legitimate starter in the
NFL sign I was like It's like I was like, yeah,
(03:58):
I just so so you were you were too good
for the XFL? Bad? Is that what it basfull? He's
like He's like you were I was like yeah, yeah.
Um It's like it's like he just was like I
was like, yeah, I was, Yeah, I was. Son. I
was He's like, well, who plays the name if? I
(04:18):
was like, it's you know, it's it's it's it's players
that were in the NFL. They're looking to get back in.
And you know some college players that haven't made the
NFL yet and I'm looking for their you know, their
their their their chance and so this opportunity for them
to still play football and still chase their their dreams
and blahlah blah, and um it was. It was a
fun conversation. It was like the one time in like
(04:39):
eight years, he's eight and a half now I was
able to like brag him out my career in front
of him. I don't do a lot of that. I
don't I just don't need. And it was week four,
so I was pulling against the kids City Chiefs. It
was a glorious blood. Yeah, it's like this, it's like
no portant. Yeah, I just pancake block week seven. Um
(05:03):
so like yeah, there's just no point too. So it
was pretty funny to explain, like the genesis of the XFL,
the the the USFL will start up in a couple
of weeks. But yeah, I try to put on some XFL.
I mean the scoring rules and the kickoffs and stuff
are different. Um, but like the highlights right now on
Sports Center for the All Star Game last night. There's
(05:24):
like four of them. There's nothing even to highlight. It
wasn't even like a thing like they just they just
ran around the court and shot the ball like yeah yeah.
And we didn't get the cool ending either, because the
last couple of years with the LAM ending where they
have the target score, they don't play a normal fourth quarter.
It has been pretty exciting. It was just out of reach.
(05:45):
Team you honest came to play last night, but you're right,
it was just I do like I'm gonna sound super
old right now, but don't get me wrong on this one.
I do like how the old school All Star Game,
it was like a legitimate game. Those guys went at it.
It was legitimate company titian and over the years it's
just turned into hell, let's goof around, and some of
that is fun. I did love where Jalen Brown and
(06:07):
Jason Tatum, the Celtics teammates, at the end of the
third quarter, they're just going one on one. That was awesome.
That was the highlight of the game in my opinion.
But yeah, not a whole lot to take away. Damian Lillard,
how he shoots from half court like He's shooting a
fifteen foot mid range shot is insane. So there's some
fun moments. But what do you think about All Star
(06:27):
Saturday with the three point contest. Damian Lillard won that
and Mac McClung the legend of Mac McClung coming from
the G League signing with the Sixers basically so we
could wear a Sixers uniform during the dunk contest and
he goes ballistic. He had three perfect fifties. It was awesome.
Mac mcclun. What definitely won the weekend? Right, I mean
(06:49):
his dunks were incredible, you know, you you wonder like,
can there you know, can we keep you know, keep
seeing new dunks? Right? Like how much new can there be?
And then he brings out I mean they call it
a five forty, sure, um, but you know three sixty essentially, right,
he jumps over two dudes told him the ball like
(07:09):
it was incredible. He he brought the best dunks we've
seen in a long time, and um, it was fun,
it was entertaining, and you know you can always tell
in those moments, you know, when when his team, when
when his peers right, the other players in the league,
like how fired up they are about it, right, and
that kind of gives you a sense of of how
(07:30):
much they appreciate it, which makes me appreciate it almost more,
if that makes sense. Right. Like, so, I thought it
was great. It was great entertainment and I hope, you know,
and the Sixers signed him just for this. I don't
know if he's actually gonna play for them. I hope
he does. Would pretty awesome if he does. Um, So
it was that was a fun moment, you know, Damian
Lillard in his in his we we were state uniform
(07:51):
getting it done for the three point shooting contest. Um.
You know, it's it's interesting I had this take upout
All Star weekend for UM baseball and for basketball for
the most part, because you know, the Pro Bowl is
the Pro Bow because it is the same same way essentially.
But I just watched so much football that I never
really pay attention to the Pro Bowl. Is that, you know,
(08:13):
when we were kids and there wasn't such access to
every game all the time, that All Star weekend for baseball,
especially for baseball when I was you know, more of
a baseball fan as the basketball fan as a kid,
and basketball All Star Game, it was the first time
you saw some players actually play because of TV, right,
(08:35):
like you got. I grew up in Los Angeles, Like
I was watching the Lakers as a kid, but in
the Clippers. But that's like all I got, right, So yeah,
I would see Lakers play the Bulls when they played
in Jordan's but and then on the weekends, maybe get
a game or two of the Bulls every now and then.
But it wasn't like you got a ton of watching
Michael Jordan will All Star Weekend was at the time,
watched Jordan play, right, Like it was time to watch
a bunch of players play that you typically didn't get
(08:58):
to see play. Like in baseball time, I got to
watch Ken Griffey Jr. The Home Run Derby, right, to
see Ken Junior play ever, And now you know, you
got turned on the TV and go on social media
and see all these guys playing, like for me, the
home Run Derby, All Star Weekend, Baseball Weekend, like some
of these things, like it's not as exciting for me
at least because I watch all the highlights of everyone
(09:20):
every night play and I don't feel it's as special
to watch them play together in this environment because again,
I just watched a bunch of NBA this past week.
I just watch these guys all play all week. So
maybe that's just me, I know, my own mind thinking
about those things. I don't. I don't feel the same
way about these weekends as I used to for those reasons. No,
(09:41):
I hear you. It's a good take, and I never
really thought about it that way. But it makes all
the sense in the world. It makes me think of
when I was a kid. I'll never forget, Jeff, my
dad took me out to grab some food, like grab
some pizza. My uncle was in town from Tennessee, and
we went out when the MLB All Star Game was
gonna be on, and I'll never forget. I don't know
(10:01):
how young. I was pretty young, and we're driving to
the place and I was stunned, literally stunned that cars
were driving on the road. I'm like, what are these
people do? And don't they know the MLB All Star
Game is on right now? And but it was like
that because the lack of access. It's a little a
little bit like a peek in the past with Mac
(10:24):
McClung in the dunk contest, because he had played two
NBA games in his entire career, and so there was
no pizzas heading in. You're like mc McClung. They got
to use a G league guy? What is going on
out here? But after he made his first dunk, and
it was like who is this guy? Right? It was
kind of cool not being familiar with him exactly, and
(10:46):
even if you were, I mean there were like tapes
flowing around, of the tapes that that's old. Now there
was your video of him floating around, of your mixtapes
of whatnot of him dunking in high school whatnot. But again,
like you have to kind of be in the extreme
no to see have seen those. I've never seen those before.
And so yeah, the excitement of like, oh this new
kid here right like the first time see that? That's
(11:07):
fun right? Like again for a three point contest, Yeah, yeah,
I see demon a little shoot every night, Like I
know you can shoot it ready, Yeah, that doesn't excite
me like like it used to win. Again, there were
players that you know when also when like Larry Bird
was in the third point contest, that's right, Yeah, it
was like me for Mac it was wasn't this guy
(11:28):
on the Lakers summer league team with Reeves And it
was like, yeah, he was. There was an article I
read he he played on like thirty teams, like a
hundred fifty teammates over like a year and a half,
like some insane number over two years. I just amount
of the sorry, thirty cities, thirty cities and like a
hundred fifty teammates he's been in the last like two years,
(11:49):
whether G League, whether you know camp invites, whether it
was you know, NBA teams, ten day contracts. During the
COVID year, he had a bunch of bouncing bouncing around
on ten day deals. Um, and he's just kind of,
you know, kind of slowly trying to find one place
that'll give him an opportunity. I'm not sure this will help.
(12:09):
I don't know how much the dunk contest will help
as far as you actually contributing to a team. But
obviously getting your name out there never hurt, and you
know you're you know, getting national attention can never hurt.
So I'm curious that this kind of jump starts a
career for him in the NBA. That was the running
joke yesterday that I was telling with Kevin Love. He
(12:30):
got bought out by the Calves and the two teams
that he was rumored to go to was either the
seventies Sixers or the Miami Heat, and it was like, well,
Philly doesn't have room for Kevin Love. They got mc McClung. Now,
is like, but what a thrill from mc McClung because
two games in his NBA career and he was on
(12:51):
center freaking stage. He's dunking in the Dunk Contest and
all these stars are courts Like Janice is like taking
video of mc McClung. You've got Donovan, Mitchell and Shack
You're getting presented the trophy by Dr Jay, Like, what
a thrill that had to be. That's awesome. That was
really cool. This week I had no interest what so
(13:13):
I'm like, what is going on? No stars are in
the dunk Contest? We got a resort to mc mcluck
and it was one of the best things for the
Dunk Contest ever. This is this is why we like sports, right, Like,
this is like, this is why this is this is
the story that we love about sports. Right. A kid
just kind of grinding his way through the system, right,
trying to find a place as a pro, a little undersized, right,
(13:36):
just like kind of trying to find you know, he's
grinding it out, sleeping in uh, you know, in couches
and whatnot, and try and make it work. And all
of a sudden he is this one moment and it
might not lead to too much in the end, but
he has this one moment where the entire NBA world,
all of us are watching him with a dunk contest
when a lot of us didn't know who he was beforehand. Again,
(13:56):
I mean, he had you know, his name has been
had been circling in. You know, if you if you
are die hard you know NBA fan, you you've probably
seen his high school videos and whatnot. I I'm not
not all of us pay attention quite like that. And
that's what we love about sports, right, that kind of
comes out of nowhere like that, and it's pretty cool. Yeah,
it was. It was really cool. Hey, still over paying
(14:17):
for a razor and this economy gross. With Dollar Shave Club,
you can get a top shelf shave at a regular
shelf price. Dollar Shave Club is available at a store
near you and the Men's Razors Razor Aisle. That's it.
That's the ad, all right. We got a lot to
get to Jeff Schwartz. We got ball on the horizon.
We got a little tiger stuff coming up next. Man,
(14:38):
there is a man in the sports world that I
think if Jeff you could get rid of him, you would.
We're gonna compare notes. If you could get rid of
anybody in the sports world, not like you know, like
they're they're dead, or any like they just removed from
the sports world, who would you choose? I think I
(14:59):
might know who's on your list, but we'll compare notes.
Right around the corner, I'm Brian Noo, He's Jeff Schwartz.
We're in for two pros and a cup of Joe
right here on Fox Sports Radio. Polly Foustco here with
Tony Fusco. As you all know, we're the host of
the number one rated show in all of sports talk,

(15:21):
They want to hear us talk sports, not idiot guests
who think they know more about sports than we don't.
He listened to the dummies. You don't know crap about
This is the worst thing. He's still on the shop.
You don't know if you want to hear how sports
talk should be done. Listen to the Folly and Tony
Fusco Show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple podcast

I'm Brian, No, he's Jeff Schwartz here on Fox Sports Radio.

two pros, Terms and conditions apply. You know, I knew
we were gonna talk about Aaron Rodgers here today, Jeff,
your best buddy in the whole wide world and just
over it man and I get it. Um and you
(16:25):
wanted to talk about how he can be an attention horror,
which he is the definition. Yeah. Absolutely. Uh just wanted
to chronicle going into darkness. Didn't just do it, just
chronicled the whole thing. Wanted some shine for it, the
whole thing. And I started thinking, I'm like, if you
could just get rid of like snap your fingers and
(16:46):
this quarterback, this um power forward this Uh, you know,
clean up hitter in baseball. There's they're gone from the
sports world. They're just not in the sports world whatsoever.
They are retired, they go often do whatever they do,
and you don't hear from them again. Who would be
on your list if you could get rid of anybody
in the sports world, would you choose Aaron Rodgers? Oh?
(17:10):
Good question. Um, well, I mean, I mean, I mean
basically a vow and never talked about him on social
media anymore. So like maybe so maybe I've already done that,
so I'm not gonna do it. Like I'm just not
gonna do it. He was. It's just it's it's just
it's not a compelling storyline to me. Um, there's so
(17:31):
much good in the NFL right now at the quarterback position,
whether it's obviously Mahomes or Jalen Hurts or Joe Burrow
and and Herbert Lawrence. You know, the Lamar contract situation
in Baltimore is fascinating to me. I'm sure I've missed
a bunch of young you know, Josh Allen, there's like
so many good young quarterbacks. And then there's just Aaron Rodgers,
(17:53):
who is always looking for attention. Who who may or
may not have clarity after spending four days in the
darkness that he may or may not have film with
a light switch that's actually in there. Like, I just,
you know, I for a guy who who doesn't like
attention but then goes on a radio show every Tuesday
(18:14):
to get attention and just some time over it. Man,
Like I, I just don't care. And he goes to
the Jets. Okay, does that make me think the Jets
that wins to Bowl? Now? No? Oh, he goes to
the Raiders. Okay, well your third in your division, congratulations.
I just it doesn't interest me anymore. Like this storyline
does not make me feel any sort of way about
(18:36):
uh about whatever team he goes to. Um. I I
just want to focus my attention on the other quarterbacks
that are winning in and don't feel like they need
all the attention every time we talk about them. Yeah,
you know what, it's It's a good way to frame it.
It's almost like Aaron Rodgers is becoming like the NFL
Pro Bowl discussion used to be. Remember how people got
(18:59):
so bent out of shape. This is just a couple
of years ago. What they need to do this and
they should make this change. And but they sounded really invested,
and it was like, why do you sound like this?
It's the Pro Bowl at the end of the day,
you know. And I think some of those people probably
came to the realization of why do I care? Why
(19:20):
do I sound like this? And with Aaron Rodgers, the
way you framed everything, Yeah, I think we've had a
lot of strong stances and a lot of opinions and
a lot of you know, kind of like banging the table,
and then you reach a point where you're like, there's
so much else out there to care more about. Why
would I be this invested on this guy? And yeah,
(19:42):
I think that's a good way to frame the whole thing,
because I believe a lot of people have gotten to
that conclusion lately. Here. I think Packers fans are there too.
I think the Packers are there as well, like they
want like they want to move on, Packers fans want
to move on. Look this this sort of like a
engine thing. It's fine when you're winning, right, and it's
(20:05):
fine with things. And again, Aaron Rodgers first ballot Hall
of Famer. When the best quarterbacks ever play football, like
that's I'm just undisputed. I'm not disputing that at all. Like,
I'm on board with that. If I had a Hall
of Fame vote, I vote him first ballot. And all
those things are absolutely true when the best quarterbacks ever
played football. But he didn't make the playoffs last year, right,
and he didn't play as well as he had in
the past. Now, you could blame the thumb, you could.
(20:27):
There's other reasons for that, you know, physical limitations starting
to show herself a little bit. But you know he's
not sometimes logs on wide receivers, doesn't throw guys open
as well as he has in the past, and throw
to the open guys so much anymore, doesn't run the
offense as great as he used to in the past.
Was diminishing just a little bit. Right, Um, But like
(20:47):
when when you win, people forgive the quirkiness, right, they
forgive the the the off season spent. Oh, I don't
know if I'm gonna play, I'm they forget it that
that hemming and hang in the off season. But the
first time you don't make the playoffs, people are like, okay, fine,
we're done with it now, right, We're moving along. Like
let's say, you know, we got to Jordan's love, Let's
(21:10):
get him let's get him on the field. Let's let
him play a season before I decide what to do
with them, and let's move it along. And it happens
that quickly because you put up with it for so
many years and you're waiting for the out, and the
out is now is now? Right? It's what he's in,
this darkness, retreating. He's gonna he's gonna come out of it,
not even knowing if he actually wants to go or
(21:32):
stay yet, right, I just the Packers need to move on.
But I don't know if any has no trade closet,
probably look up before talk about it. But if he doesn't,
just get rid of him, Like, call the Jets, what
do you what do you guys want? Call the Raiders?
What do you want? Okay? Here it is boom, goodbye,
moving along, Get ready for life without Aaron Rodgers. Play
(21:55):
Jordan's Love plays a year, plays good, plays poorly, plays average,
whatever you want to do, and the next year you
obviously can decide if Jordan loves your guy or you
can figure it out on the fly. But it's time,
like it's it's it's time to cut times with Rogers
and move it along. Yeah, it's uh, it's kind of
turned into you know, this happens in basketball a lot.
(22:18):
It's kind of like wearing the eclectic outfit. Remember when
Kyle Kuzma, he's done this a few times with the
Washington Wizards. He's walked in with the oversized pink sweater
and it's just a conversation piece or it's kind of
like the inflatable I don't know, like shirt thing going on.
He had that within the last couple of weeks. That's
cool if you're walking in and you want people to
(22:40):
talk about you find but if you wear that to
the postgame press conference following a loss, it's just like,
this is weird. What what are you doing? Why would
you be wearing that? That's a little bit what Aaron
Rodgers has turned into. It's one thing for after he's
the m v P, the will I return Will I Know?
It's like, is he coming back now after last season
(23:03):
where they didn't even make the playoffs and statistically it
was a down year for him and his standards and
all this stuff. It's just kind of like, dude, you're
wearing the weird, kind of goofy postgame outfit after you lost,
Like what, why would you do that, like it just
it's it doesn't seem like it fits, is really all.
(23:25):
It doesn't look look NFL teams and we're talking about
like distractions all the time, right, Like it's true. NFL
teams don't like distractions, and they you know, they put
up with distractions because you know, a lot of times
those players are very talented and you went a lot
of football games to deal with it. But the Packers,
like they can't build a roster. The time spent from
(23:50):
the end of the season until obviously the draft is
building your roster, right, it's it's getting ready to play
next season. You you use that time to stout right
to figure out your salary cap situation and to kind
of set everything up for when Frasie opens up, which
Frasie starts very soon, right March eighth, something like that, right, yeah,
(24:12):
tampering period, Yeah yeah, yeah, of course they never actually
talked before that, and and like so, um, actually it's
a tad bit later this year because the combine is uh,
um is uh a little later than usual this year,
just when the calendar um works out, so uh free
(24:32):
agency starts, um, what does it? Well? Because the new
league year, I want to say around yeah, so it's
a few days before that. So um, so, like the
Packers are trying to set up set up kind of
how they're gonna go about March with teeth. They really,
we know the Packers never really go hard on March
with teeth. But they need an answer, right, They need
(24:52):
Roger to tell them what he wants to do so
they can they can move on with life. And the
longer he holds this out, the longer it makes the
Packers kind of sit on the sideline and not be
able to set up their salary cap the roster make
hard tough decisions on what they need to do with
their team. Because you can make the argument that if
you get rid of Rogers, okay, are we now resetting, right?
Are we resetting for a year? Now? You can reset
(25:15):
and also win. We've seen that happen plenty of He's
just how the chief sort of tiny bit reset wide
receiver right and continue to win. You can do that, right,
or do we say, okay, well let's shed some contracts
and we're gonna babe stink for half, you know, for
for a year and kind of go back hard like.
But you can't do any of that until Rogers is
off your roster, and you can't really do that until
(25:36):
Rogers tells you whether or not he wants to leave,
which again may or may not happen after he spends
four days in the darkness. I know it's And the
funny thing is after they lost to the Lions in
Week eighteen to not make the playoffs, in the postgame
press conference, that's the way he framed it. He's like,
I'm not gonna take that long, you know, I know
these guys want me to make up my mind. He
(25:57):
framed it where he's not gonna take that long and
where we are, I'm taking a long and going into
the darkness. And so he doesn't have a no trade class.
Packers just traded his ass, right, just like just just
just get them, just trade you know, um, the person
in the sports world who I would choose to, uh,
you know, eliminate. You know that they're gonna be retired
(26:18):
and they're gonna be in great health and all that stuff.
They're not in the sports world anymore. I started thinking
about this, Jeff, and I'm like, there's that too many
that I would want to get rid of. But there's
a guy that came to mind a duck. Dylan Brooks,
I don't know what it is with the Memphis Grizzlies. No, no,
it says I cannot win bets with the freaking Memphis Grizzlies.
(26:41):
Do you realize how much money these guys have cost
me over the years. If I bet on them, they suck.
If I bet against them, they somehow screw me. And
Dylan Brooks has been at the center of that. This
is the Atlanta Falcons for everyone in the NFL. You
just can never bet on the Lanta Falcons. You never
do it. That's your kryptonite over there. Yeah, the focts. Yeah,
(27:01):
um well, Dylon Brooks, I mean I want to hear
my my Organ Ducks right now. They're playing terribly too.
Um wait, so so you just like you're you're out
on your out on Dillon Brooks. I'm out. I'm out.
And it's just strictly tied to gambling really nothing else.
How many how many? How many? How much actually putting
down on on NBA? Like how many many games at night? Oh?
(27:22):
I don't know, Uh, it really varies some nights. I'll
have some of my degenerate quarter bets and maybe a
player prop here or there. But it's nothing to like, whoa, no,
this is this is kidding out of hand over here,
Bud even nothing like that. But man, it goes back
to the playoffs last year against the Warriors. I had
(27:43):
the Warriors minus five and a half an in game line, Jeff,
and uh, they fouled Wiggins at the end, he shoots
a free throw to give the Warriors a six point lead.
I'm like, oh my gosh, I thought I was gonna lose.
Now all of a sudden, we're in the driver's seat.
What do they do? Wiggins misses the second free to
Row and they give the ball to Dylan Brooks just
(28:03):
after the half court line. He just jacks up a
shot Banks in the three at the buzzer, and the
Warriors win by three and don't cover the five and
a half. And it was so disgusting. I didn't even
get mad. It was just like, oh my gosh, Dylan
Brooks just took all my money and didn't even know
it right there. So yeah, I would eliminate Dylon Brooks
(28:25):
from the sports world. You guys bet on him. Man. Yeah,
I've started to realize that I've started to move on
from the Grizz. We're gonna move off the Grizz and
move it to Eddie Garcia right now. Who's with the
with us this morning? Eddie Garcia? Howard things man? Everything good? Yeah,
doing well, doing well. It's uh, it's rare. I work
(28:45):
on a company holiday, but I'm happy to be here.
You sound like Jeff I was too good for the
xfl SO holiday. Yeah. Yeah. To be fair though, I
swapped it out for another day, and they let us
do that if we work on a company holiday and
want a different day off. So that's what's going on.
(29:06):
Also going on the NBA All Star Game with Team
Janni's outscoring Team Lebron one four to one seventy five.
Jason Tatum of the Celtics scored fifty five points, it's
an All Star Game record, and was named the m

half due to suffering a finger injury. Says that he
sat out as a precaution, will be ready to go
for the second half the season. And Yannis done the
Kompoh the other captain. He played twenty seconds before leaving
(29:29):
the game with a risk injury that he suffered last Thursday.
Reportedly gonna travel to New York today for further testing.
College basketball, we had the number two and number three

The tire rack dot Com. Fox Sports Radio Studios takes
any good stuff. But yeah, did you watch any any
any of Daytona yesterday? I'm glad you said that you
went right where I was going. Yeah, I watched a
decent amount. Definitely saw the end. It's weird because they're
just they do the green white checker if there's a rack,
(30:56):
and there there were a couple of wrecks at the end,
so they're just uncut. They're just running laps, running laps,
running that don't actually count. Towards the end, it was weird.
So I am, I'm my where my kids are facetiming.
We're FaceTime my my my parents, so they're grandparents, right,
it's my dad. My daughter ran off and so it
was my dad, my son and me and I think
(31:20):
at that moment, like there was kind of nothing on.
So we put on NASCAR. Okay, we put it on
and my dad was watching too, and I was like, okay,
what's happening. Daddy goes there and overtime. I said, that's
excuse me there during what I was like, yeah, then overtime,
I go, okay, whatever you say, buddy, And he was
explaining me what overtime was, and I fringe. I mean,
I I've been to a couple of races here in Charlotte.
(31:42):
I don't really watch every now. I watched a little
bit earlier in the day. I didn't know overtime was
a thing. Knowing you even have it took. I watched
for thirty minutes. I saw two and a half laps,
that's all be It was like green, green accident, Okay,
ten it's a caution, green accident. Ten minutes of call,
and then the ending where I'm fairly certain the yellow
(32:04):
car Logano was ahead at the time of the caution.
I don't know, like it just was like told. And
by the way, the best part was I had this
on mute the entire time because I was facetiming, so
I didn't even I couldn't even hear what was said,
I was just going off, and my dad was telling me,
like I watched. I watched for thirty minutes and saw
no racing whatsoever and saw four accidents I saw like
(32:26):
explains again to my son, like what was happening, and
then like it just was. The questions asked by an
eight and a half year old about NASCAR are just
so intense. Where's the door at, where's the window at?
What's to doing with that thing he's moving? I'm like
this stick shift, you know what? What's like? What what
happens when they like when they collide? Just the questions,
(32:47):
and I'm like, dude, I'll just take you okay when
they come here and may we'll go take you two.
We'll go to the up to Sharltt Motor Speedway. We'll
you'll see everything in person. Um and uh, it just
was like, but yeah, they just didn't raced, crazy green yellow, yellow, green,
white checker thing. Yeah. The first time, it's like, oh cool,
(33:10):
they're actually gonna race instead of it ending on caution
and that they just kept wrecking and You're like, okay,
this is a little bit much. You know, it wasn't
Logano ahead when it looked like it that's the thing
because their side by side, Logano looked like he's ahead
when the wreck started. But it's sort of like I
don't know, like a a foul in basketball at the
(33:32):
very end, it's like did the foul occur while there
was still time on the clock or not. So it
really depends on when they exactly called the foul. So
it's like when it went to yellow, like in that
exact moment, Stenhouse Jr. Was ahead, but you're right, like
it was a fraction of a second where Legano was
ahead when the rex started. So because the Legano after
(33:56):
the race and he was smiling like, yeah, you know,
I wish that would have wont but second place. Yeah,
because I think I think I think it's check still cleared.
I think that's fun. He really married him so much.
I mean, I explain to my son too again, like
he's like, why are they crashing much of my buddy?
I don't know. I'll tell you, man, I'm like, they're
(34:17):
going I don't know, I don't strict plate racing. They're
all going about the same, you know, spec roughly. It's
way too It's like I'm like, son, they're going to
miles an hour. He's like, don't look, they don't they're
going that fast. But no, I promise you they're going
that very very fast. But I guess I guess in
those superspeedways they just crashed a bunch, right, That's like
(34:37):
they do on those restrictor plate racing. Man, it's just
you know you're drafting. Is that just it's just so
fast to any sort of movement ends to get loose,
Jef Schwartz, to get loose, you know, yeah, you're you're
you're kind of in a turn and someone's right behind you,
and it gets the back end. Lucy ever drive in
the in like the snow or something in the back
(34:59):
end gets When the back end gets loose, could be
all sorts of bad right there. He might have someone
like a foot from you on your right side. You
get loose and you turn into them accidentally, and then
you get the big one. You get the big cars
get rapped at what's a little rasing yesterday. So I
guess I'm gonna take my son this year to to
the race here in Charlotte. There you go, man, that
(35:20):
could be fun. Still overplay overpaying for a razor in
this economy, gross with Dollar Shave Club. You can get
a top shelf shave at a regular shelf price. Dollar
Shave Club is available at a store near you in
the men's razor aisle. That's it. That's the ad alright,

thing you love talking the most about, which is Aaron Rodgers.
(36:25):
But the only reason I bring up his name is
because of this the New York Jets. They've visited with
Derek Carr, the former Raiders quarterback, this weekend. And if
you ask yourself this Jeff Um, which would be the
better get for the Jets, would it be Aaron Rodgers
or would it be Derek Carr. And believe it or not,
it's Derek Carr because for a few reasons, you'd have
(36:47):
to trade for Aaron Rodgers, and Derek Carr is a
free agent, so you don't have to actually give up
any assets, no draft picks, no nothing. We all know
Aaron Rodgers is the better quarterback. But I would argue
right now, not by leaps and bounds. And how many
years are you gonna have Aaron Rodgers for. You might
have them for one year, maybe two years. You could
(37:08):
have Derek Carr for the next five, six years, something
like that. So I think Derek Carr is actually the
better signing for the Jets. And I'm not saying they're
gonna be Super Bowl favorites if they get Derek Carr.
But Derek Carr is gonna be in the league a
lot longer than Aaron Rodgers will be. I you just
hit all the reasons why car Is is the better
(37:29):
option right now, right, because look, yeah you might you
might get yourself closer to a super Bowl with Aaron
Rodgers in one year, right with Aaron Rodgers. But then,
but then what happens, right? What if it goes to
New York is not happy? Then you have to restart
after one season, right, and you have to deal with
the drama of Aaron Rodgers for an entire season. I
think if you're a Jets fan, um, your goal right
(37:54):
now is just being competitive. Right. If the Sacramento Kings
make the playoffs in the NBA, the longest playoff drought
in sports will belong to the New York Jets. The
Mariners have made the playoffs, they made the playoffs this year,
then it will be the Then it will be the
New York Jets. Um. If the if the two of
(38:15):
the Kings and the Kings right now the third or
the three seed, they'll probably make the playoffs. Um, so
it would be the Jets. The You just want competence
at quarterback, right, Like you have the defense, You have
young skill position players. You hope Briece Hall comes back
healthy and ready to go. You have an offensive line
if they're healthy, right, you know Mackay Beckton and Elijah
(38:36):
Vera Tucker like you have dudes, and you just want
a competent quarterback, a competent quarterback like just someone that
you will that you can rely on. Is Derek Carr.
I'm gonna lead you the super Bowl? No he's not,
but he's gonna get to the playoffs. Is gonna make
you each week competitive? Is gonna give you hope as
(38:58):
a fan? Yes? Is he gonna? You know? And then
all you gotta do. You know, it's not always as simple,
but if you get into the playoffs, if you get in,
you always have a chance. You always have a chance.
Now again it's not it doesn't mean you're gonna win,
but you have a chance if you get in. And
(39:18):
that is with Derek Carr, and you have that chance
over multiple years. And if you get car and able
to land him, you have the opportunity to build your
roster around him for many years. Aaron Rodgers a one
or two year rental. Look you know, look, look now,
obviously it paid off a Tampa with a championship, but
now they're kind of in a spot where they're gonna
tank for a year and get Kay Williams right like
(39:39):
they're gonna stink this season. If you are the Jets,
do you want to Are you all in for Aaron
Rodgers for what? Are you gonna go as the Jets?
Are you gonna go to Kansas City next January and
beat the Chiefs in the playoff games? You go to the
the Super Bowl? Are you gonna go to Cincinnati or
to Buffalo and and be both of them or one
(40:01):
of them and then go to Kansas City? Right? Like,
you have to think about your path with Aaron Rodgers
for a single season or for two years or Derek Carr.
You might get the same result with Derek Carr. Right,
It was cheaper less assets to give up, and you're
happy with Derek Carr your quarterback for sixty eight years.
So to me, it's Derek Carr. The problem is, I
think you have a lot of stuitors for Derek car
Cooting the team where I live, the Carolina Panthers, who
(40:23):
are really gonna want Derek Carr? I think for the
same reason I just I just mentioned stability of the
quarterback position, and you get that with Derek Carr. You look,
is he winn in Super Bowl for you? I don't know,
but need stability. You get stability of that position, which
is so important for a lot of teams. Yeah, and
you couple him with a real defense and uh, he's
gotta you've got a shot to be better and you've
(40:45):
just been a grease fire at quarterback and he represents
some stability. I do like it's refreshing because the perspective
has changed just how Derek Carr is viewed. Where we've
looked at him the whole time compared to Mahomes and
quarterbacks that are better than him, and we look at
everything Derek Carr doesn't do well. Now when it's the
possibility of him being the quarterback of the Jets and
(41:07):
you have someone who's actually like functional back there instead
of Zack Wilson, we're looking at what Derek Carr actually
brings to the table. But with that being said, there's
still a limit. You know. It's not the sky is
the limit. It's you know, or what you can get
you up some trees over here, just not the sky. Yeah.
I just think you're seeing like the high level quarterback
play it would take to win the a f C Conference,
(41:29):
and ye're just comparing that to, you know, to what
Derek Carr is and that's that's all. You know, that's
is hard to do right now, you know it is
all right coming up next it's a promotion, but man,
it sure doesn't feel like it
