Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to sports.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Oh what is going on?

Speaker 3 (00:05):
Happy Thanksgiving to everybody out there early Thursday morning, getting
you set for some Thanksgiving ball over here. I'm sure
you're gonna have a feast. J Martin, you get into
the Thanksgiving festivities, I mean, happy day for you, I
would imagine, so right, yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
Yeah, I mean the family's grown. Obviously.

Speaker 5 (00:24):
We now have two daughters, and you know, we can
see one of the sets of grandparents. My dad passed
last year and my mom's we don't we're not able
to see her the way that we once were. But yeah,
it's gonna be fun, and obviously we have a big
meal and celebrate a lot of a lot of things
that we have to be thankful for in this world.
And one of them, it looks like on this Thursday,

(00:46):
Brian is really good football. A lot of times these
games haven't been great, but there's some matchups in this one,
and there's some intriguing storylines as well. So I'm excited.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
I'm excited for all three of these NFL games, and
I kind of feel sad for what do we have?

Speaker 2 (01:02):
What's the college game? We've got? Uh, We've got Navy and.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Memphis, which is an okay game, but sandwiched in between
all this NFL stuff, that's uh, it's not gonna be
highly rated.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
You know you're doing the commercial breaks, Yeah you could.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
I'll absolutely have it going, you know, I'll have it
on like a side screen or a whatever, like a
tablet or something like that.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
But uh, yeah, it's gonna be.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
The return of Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson and everybody
else you know involved in this Bengals Ravens game tonight.
For me, that's gonna be the the center stage. You know,
I'm you know me, j Mart. We've done plenty of
shows together. And I love football. I am a ball addict.
I think I even put that on my ex bio

(01:46):
ball addict, and uh I didn't realize.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Careful, be careful, I don't. Yeah, but I put it.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
In all caps, so I think everybody out he means football, right,
there's no uh, you know, there's no misconstruing that.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
But that we're talking about here, that's right, that's right.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah, I know it.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Man.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Wow, that was crazy.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
But I didn't know how much I was in football
mode until yesterday.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
It's a true story.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I was watching the the Pistons and the Celtics and
Asar Thompson went up for a point blank shot and
he got bumped, and I said, out loud but sort
of to myself. I'm like, where's the flag? I go,
where's the flag? I met, where's the foul? But I'm
so in football mode. I literally said, during a basketball game,

(02:34):
where's the flag? Like, oh my gosh, I'm not in
basketball mode yet at all. I love hoops, but man,
I am in football mode right now.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
J Mart, Yeah, dude, up with you, Like, I mean,
I'm a thunder fence. I'm pretty excited right now. But
at the same time, I'm not there yet. Like the
NBA Cup God bless it, but just I can't get
there yet. Like there's been some really nice college matchups
and it's not like I've seen none of this stuff,
but yeah, the brain is college and pro football oriented

(03:06):
right now. To say the least, it has my attention.
And we're getting down to the NDF one season, so
I've been obviously really watching that pretty hard as well.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
But like there's just this NBA season's got a long long.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Way to go.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
It's just there's so much basketball that's still going to
be left to watch after all the football was done,
it's just hard to get my attention on any given
matchup right now. In college the problem is all the
good matchups, all those teams are gonna end up playing
each other again, or they're going to have an opportunity
to make the tournament in March because of how many
teams get in. And then on the flip side, in
the NBA, most those teams see each other four times

(03:42):
a year anyway, So what are you going to read
into what those teams are going to be in April
because of a Rocket's Warriors tilt on Thanksgiving Eve?

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Right, Yeah, it's true. It's one of those deals.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
I never really thought of it like that, and it
really is obvious where to go from foot fotball season
and transition to basketball season.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Just think of it as.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
A sports fan, just in terms of sense of urgency. Right,
if you look at college football, still a great sense
of urgency to win games right away. You maybe get
two mulligans, depending on your schedule, what conference you're in,
that sort of thing, maybe you get two losses and
that's pretty much it. That's all you could really hope

(04:26):
for and still be able to be a playoff team.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
So it's go time.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Man.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
You get a little bit more wiggle room with the NFL,
but these games matter. We're talking seeding, we're talking who
wins the division, who's a wildcard team. All that stuff
is very important. And I love hoops, but to go
from the sense of urgency that you have on a
game to game basis in football college in the NFL
to like either college or especially the NBA with eighty

(04:52):
two games, it's just not even remotely close. You can't
watch these games like, come on, let's go. It's not
like that.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Man, you have so much more wig.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Yeah you do.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
And I mean it's even worse for baseball, right because yeah,
you have one hundred and sixty two games there. Even
what's funny about it is, I'm making this argument, and
you're agreeing with this argument, but it always comes down
to like the last few games to see who's gonna
get the last spot. But my argument against that is
it's just like, yeah, but those aren't the teams that
are likely to win the championship anyway. Like at that point,

(05:23):
you're kind of just watching the almost watching. You're watching
the NCAA bubble, which has grown less and less interesting
as the years have passed, but like to your point,
the NFL in college football, every game feels massive because
every game has such a seismic opportunity to shift what's
gonna happen in your division much less you know what

(05:45):
you're gonna be able to do and where you're gonna
see it in the playoffs and all this. So I
think that's probably the biggest thing is that each football
game feels so monumentally important because there are so many
less of.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Them, absolutely no doubt about that. Well, you know, as
we look at the three NFL games here on Thanksgiving
and that we'll zero in on them a little bit
more as we go on throughout the show today, but
just a broad view if you look at all three,
you know, really at the same time Packers Lions, followed
by Chiefs Cowboys, and then the nightcap is Bengals Ravens

(06:20):
and Joe Burrow's return. Just in terms of like, you
got family stuff going on, and you know, like you
might not be able to sit there for nine plus
hours and watch every minute, but what's the game where
you're like, I gotta have some time to see this game?
In particular, is there one that you have out of
these three that interests you the most.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
Well, man, I mean, they all have really intriguing storylines.
One of the things that I want to talk about
an hour or two is things that we've been dead
wrong about in the NFL so far this season. Yeah,
and I think that each of these games potentially has
a qualifier, so I don't want to go there.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
The only thing that.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
I would say, of just of the three games, the
one that pro probably has my attention to most is
Bengals Ravens. Okay, interesting that that'd be in the divisional matchup.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Obviously, so is the opener of the day.

Speaker 5 (07:11):
But I want to see what Joe Burrow looks like
coming back, because I did not feel like this was
something we were going to see, Like three four weeks ago.
I wasn't looking at Joe Burrow being back on Thanksgiving.
I thought this was probably gonna take a little bit longer.
And I wasn't sure by the time he came back,
was there going to be any chance for his team

(07:31):
to be able to do anything as well.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
So, and I don't know that it is. But then
you look at the.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
Flip side with Baltimore. Baltimore doesn't have much room to
mess around either. Yeah, and the thing that's really intriguing
about then is, yes, they won their last game, but
how impressive did they look doing it? Like Almost nothing
I've seen from the Baltimore Ravens during the course of
this season has left me feeling comfortable about what's happening

(07:58):
there this season. I feel like I'm watching a lost season.
But at the same time, they can easily get where
they need to go and win it all because they
have the talent on the team to do it. But
it's just kind of baffling to me how this thing
has played out for them so far this year.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Yeah, no, it's true.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
And that's the thing with the Ravens where you would
think after the slow, slow start where they go one
in five and Lamar missed a couple of games, and
for them to win five straight, you know, just on paper,
if someone wasn't paying close attention, Let's say they were
backpacking in Europe or something. They're an NFL fan, but

(08:36):
they haven't been plugged in this year and they're just
playing ketchup. If they looked and said, wow, Ravens are
six and five man after a horrible start, you would think, wow,
they got a lot of momentum. They're really kicking it
into gear. And this five game winning streak has been
very shoulder shruggy, if you will, right, it's been very,
very ordinary, And Lamar doesn't look to be the superstar

(08:59):
that he is. He's a two time MVP. Some would
argue he should be a three time MVP. He doesn't
look like that. He looks like an unhealthy guy that's
just trying to get through games right now. So you
have to wonder if they're gonna be able to kick
it into gear and be anything close to a dynamic
team as we inch closer to playoff time, because they
don't look like it right now at all.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
No, they don't.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
And then here's the reason why I'm so interested about
the Cincinnati side. Like, we know how good Joe Burrow
is as a player when he's healthy, one, how healthy
is he? But this is a three and eight football team,
right like, I mean, you look at their record right now,
I mean they basically have to run the table to
have any shot, and I don't honestly see that happening.

(09:40):
And the biggest reason is because in his absence, it's
not as if Cincinnati hasn't been able to score points.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
Yeah, it's not.

Speaker 5 (09:48):
Like their offense has been you know, managed by I
don't know. I was gonna try to find a really
bad Cleo Lemon. I was gonna try to find like
a really bad Dolphins quarterback. Since I know you're a
Miami fan. Okay, yeah, yeah, that's going to hit right
close to home to you.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Sure.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
But the problem is the defense hasn't been good and
that doesn't change with Joe Burrow coming back, Like he
can come out there and ball out and they can
still lose because that's what they were doing a lot
last year with him playing almost MVP level football week
after week. The defense has been the biggest issue. And
they get rid of lu Narumo, who I don't think

(10:24):
he was the problem in the first place. He goes
to Indianapolis and their defense is almost instantly better, almost
instantly more aggressive. And then you look at Cincinnati and
the same problems are there, which tells me it was
the personnel. It wasn't the person on the sideline.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Absolutely. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
There are many ex coordinators, ex head coaches that if
they didn't take the professional route and they just went
straight to X and would you look at that? I
guess It wasn't me imagine that, Like, you know, I'm
sure he feels that way. He has to to some degree.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Yeah, and you're right.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
It's not like the Bengals have been losing seven team
to thirteen or something like that consistently, and now you're like,
now they finally get some offense, They've got a shot.
They've been scoring points left and right. It's the defense.
It's been brutal. I can't wait for the Chiefs and Cowboys.
Oh yeah, I mean the Cowboys last week. That was
amazing to come back from a three touchdown deficit and

(11:19):
beat the defending champs. But man, you talk about a
mirage going forward, j Mart that there's all this talk
look out for the Cowboys. Look, don't let them get hot.
You don't want to face them come playoff time. It's like, bro,
bring them on with that sucky defense. Are you kidding me?
I think Mahomes, he's not gonna need to eat a
Thanksgiving meal. He is just gonna feast on the Dallas

(11:42):
Cowboys in a handful of hours here. I think the
Chiefs put it on them. I don't think that it's
a sweat at all. I think that what they that
was such a it's a phony win. Going forward. I
take nothing away from the win last week. It's gonna
sound a little bit weird. The win last week was fine.
You battle back from a three touchdown deficit as a great,

(12:04):
great win. But going forward, do you think the Cowboys
are that team going forward?

Speaker 1 (12:11):
They are not.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
But I can't wait to see them face the Chiefs
and see if the Chiefs can start stacking wins right now.
We've been waiting for this all season long, and now
they finally save their season against the Colts. Can they
start to build on that and gain some momentum?

Speaker 5 (12:26):
And look, that's right. I think save the season is
the way to phrase that, because they had an opportunity
to end this week being under five hundred, and that's
not how this is going to play out. At best,
they're going to be five hundred. If they were lose today,
they'll still be six and six. Them coming back and
beating the Colts was huge for their entire season. And
in terms of Dallas, Dak's been exceptional much of the season.

(12:50):
He's played great. I feel like in general, Dallas has
been better than many of us anticipated them being. Maybe
that's a little allusion to our topic and now too
about what we've been wrong about so far this season.
But I do think that it's a bit of fool's
gold here. Yeah, I think that Dallas is a pretty
good football team. It's gonna put up a good fight

(13:11):
because they can score points. But it's the same problem
the Bengals have. That's exactly the exact same problem. Like
they have a great tandem with Ceedee Lamb and George Pickens,
and then you see the same thing in Cincinnati with
their tandemare receivers. There's a lot of talent there, but
then on the defensive side of the ball, who do
you trust? Obviously you don't have Michael Parsons there. They
tried to make a couple of moves at the deadline,

(13:32):
and I do think that they helped themselves, but to
what degree. And the other thing about the win and
the comeback, Philadelphia is champion in name only right now,
like they just there's there's something absent there.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Maybe there's a.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
Larger topic to have in the next couple of days
about Philadelphia. Not that everybody else in sports radio hasn't
done that, at least at some point during the course
of the season.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
US included, but I don't.

Speaker 5 (13:58):
I just I don't feel like the win over the
Eagles is as big a deal as it should be
because I don't think that the Eagles have been as
advertised throughout much of this season.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
Today's gonna tell you.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
A lot, I think, because I'm not as sure as
you are when it comes to Casey just rolling them
in this game. You could definitely be right, and the
way you laid it out makes a lot of sense.
But at the same time, I just I'm to the
point when it comes to the Chiefs where from week
to week I expect whatever happens to happen because there's

(14:29):
not really a reason to predict it because from one
week to the next, it doesn't feel like there's any
kind of progression where it makes any kind of sense.
It's just like one week they show up and they
look like the best team in the league. Next week
they show up and look like they're going to miss
the playoffs. Like they're all over the map. So the
question is which version of the Chiefs shows up. We
generally know which version of Patrick Mahomes is going to

(14:50):
show up, but some of the other guys less.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
So, yeah, they've been It's been a weird year for
the Chiefs. Like normally they don't commit these mistakes that
hurt them themselves. They just capitalize on their opponent's mistakes.
But man, they've hurt themselves time and time again this season.
It's crazy. And as far as the Cowboys like this,
this is like welcome to the NFL. How do you
explain this where they came back and beat the defending

(15:15):
champion Eagles when they're trailing by twenty one points and
yet that's the same Cowboys team that lost to the
Panthers and to the Arizona Cardinals, Like that's that's But
I think that's the larger point is I think that
Dak is this year's Burrow. Burrow had a sensational MVP
type season last year, and because they're an average team,

(15:38):
because their defense was brutal, he didn't win MVP and
they didn't make the playoffs. And I think that's the
exact same track that the Cowboys are on. And so
I think it's gonna be a wasted season for Dak.
He's putting up numbers that are just ridiculous right now,
and I think it's just gonna be an average record
at the end of the day, and how do you

(15:58):
get to an average record? You lose a game like
today against the Chiefs, and that's what I'm expecting. But hey,
we're off and running. He's Jason Martin, I'm Brian. No,
We're in for two pros and a cup of Joe here. Hey,

how pros get more done?

Speaker 2 (16:26):
All right? Coming up next?

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Now, Normally when I do a tease, I try to
be a little bit mysterious, you know, I want people
to be like, I wonder what they're going to talk
about next, I'm not really sure. Not this time, I'm
going to tell you exactly what we're talking about, because
I'm going to give you time to prepare. If I
gave you two chances to guess who the eventual college
football national champion is going to be this season, which

(16:47):
team is your top pick, and which team is your
backup plan? Get two guesses, who are you going with?
We'll compare notes. Coming up next, It is two Pros

Explore everywhere, all right, j Mart So, uh, you know,
this might be the first time in my radio career
I just laid out exactly what the heck.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
Iver talks you do that.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
It's always something cryptic.

Speaker 4 (18:27):
Yeah, it's always like I'm in the I'm in.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
The commercial break because we famously don't exactly tell each
other exactly where we're headed, so that's a little more organic.
But at the same time, like I'm always just like
in the break. Okay, what was the teas? Yeah, there
might he have been going could have been going here,
but we might also be in cricket, So let's go
back over here and figure it out. Like it turns
into a real beautiful mind kind of problem with.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
You there you go.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
Yeah, it's kind of like one of my teases would
be just like, uh, you know, a Walrus light socket
and the Ravens.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
What do they all have in common?

Speaker 4 (19:00):
That's Ben Mallard.

Speaker 1 (19:01):
Yea right, yea right, y'are right.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
That's true. But no, I laid it out so if.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
I gave you two chances to guess who the eventual
national champion is going to be in college football this season?
Who are you going with? Who's your first guest? Let's say, like,
if you get your first guess right, you get ten points.
If you get your second guess right, you get five points,
and if you get none of them right, obviously get
no points.

Speaker 4 (19:27):
Right.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
So you want to get your first guess right? Who
would you guess to win it all with your first
stab at it?

Speaker 5 (19:33):
Man, this is really really hard. And I was looking
during the break and trying to feel trying to feel
these teams out where I kind of stack them right now?
I think I think my first pick would be Georgia
and my backup would be Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
And the reason why is because I have made this
point probably two three weeks in a row on my
show with Aaron Torres on Saturday nights, that I am
the only thing that concerns me at all about Ohio
State is that I have not seen them play anybody
particularly good. That's all season long, and even Michigan. I

(20:11):
think they're gonna roll Michigan personally, because I don't think
I think Michigan is I think Michigan is better than
maybe they have any right to be at this stage
this season, but they're a future team. I don't feel
like they're a present team. This Ohio State team is
going to enter well. I mean, obviously they're gonna see
somebody in the title game, but like when you get
to the playoffs, somebody, some time is gonna punch them

(20:35):
in the mouth. And they haven't had to answer that yet.
And so I want to see what happens when they
run into some kind of adversity. And maybe they don't right,
maybe they're just gonna absolutely crush everybody. But I find
it hard to believe that they're not going to run
into some kind of drama at some point in the
college football postseason.

Speaker 4 (20:53):
And that's where we're going to find out how good.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Ohio State is. That's why they have them.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
I have them as to back up, and I have
Georgia in.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
The reason for that is because look, they went two
Knoxville and beat Tennessee when Tennessee was rolling. Their only
loss was a field goal loss to Alabama. Then they've
beaten an Ole Miss team that's really good. They crushed
the soul of a Texas team. Yeah, and then of
course they're going to see Georgia Tech this weekend. But
they've been in some close matchups, they've come back, and

(21:22):
I just feel like they have the best coach in
the sport.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
There's a couple of other guys that I would.

Speaker 5 (21:27):
Throw in that mix, but after watching Kirby Smart and
some of just the decisions that he has made, the
on side kicks, the just the things that have completely
turned football games around, I feel like he's the coach
that you need to make the choice in a close
football game between teams that have very similar talent to

(21:47):
get the job done. So it feels like chalk because
I looked at it and I said, well, you know,
you want.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
To take Texas A and M. They're undefeated.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
A and M hasn't played a particularly impressive schedule. By
my estimation. Notre Dames look great over the last couple
of months, and I really like what they're doing and
my goodness, can they score points. But you know, you
still look at their schedule and what they've had to
do since the opening two games.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
I mean, obviously they did what they did against USC.

Speaker 5 (22:12):
But they're beating up on a lot of second tier
programs and I think that you can kind of poke
holes in a lot of arguments with that.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
Even Indiana same way.

Speaker 5 (22:20):
I mean, yes, they beat Oregon, but how many really
impressive wins have they had to this point. I think
you can make an argument that any of those teams
are good enough to potentially win it all. But if
I'm just basing it on the evidence and the lack
of blemish and the battle testing, that's why I have
to give Georgia the nod. And it sounds like chalk
to say Georgia and Ohio State, but I just kind

(22:42):
of look at it, and when I look at the
schedules and what they've done during the course of the year,
that's where I come out.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Yeah, no, it makes sense. I would go. I would
agree with you on Georgia.

Speaker 3 (22:53):
That would be my first choice, and my second choice
might require some explaining and you might, you know, call
me a Homer, but I'd go Notre Dame.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
I go Notre Dame.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
But the first the first choice, and the reason why
I'd go with Georgia. They are just battle tested, man,
and you laid it out very well. Their only loss
is a three point loss to Alabama. That's not the
worst thing ever. You play a big boy schedule. They've
had these really impressive fourth quarters. It is alarming that
they've consistently gotten off to slow starts. Yes, but I'd

(23:25):
rather get off to slow starts and have strong finishes,
you know what I mean, like their money in the
fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
And this is my movie's not.

Speaker 5 (23:31):
Great at the beginning. That's all right, as long as
it lands, that's right, because yeah, they remember the end. Yeah,
my movie is terrible in the end. People are going
to remember my movie as being bad. That's exactly right.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
This is my favorite quote of the college football season,
and one of my favorite quotes ever from Kirby Smart.
This is the short version of him describing his own
football team.

Speaker 4 (23:53):
The one thing we are, we're hard to kill.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
That was after the Old Miss comeback this with seventeen points.
They outscored All Miss seventeen to nothing in the fourth
quarter and just blew the doors off of them.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
And that's what they are, man. They just keep battling.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
That Tennessee game on the road early in the season,
that was one of those deals. They're down by eight,
you know, they had a touchdown. The touchdown pass like
in the corner of the end zone over the shoulder.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
It was a thing of beauty. But they just keep battling.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
Man.

Speaker 3 (24:27):
They don't have this this thought process of it's probably
just not in the cards today. They don't think like
that at all. They're like, we're just we're balling, man,
We're playing ball here. We're gonna try to put it
drive together, you know, a gain a first down, get
a stop, and see where we are. And they are.
They're very, very hard to kill. And that's the thing
I love most about Georgia. And you need a team

(24:49):
that's battle tested come playoff time. It's not gonna be
an easy road to a championship no matter where you're seated.
So I like Georgia the most, and my second choice
would be the Irish. You look at the first two
games of the season. Those are the first two college
starts of CJ. Carr's career, you know what I mean.
And he wasn't bad in either of those though he

(25:11):
was not, But with as much seasoning as he has
right now, you're seeing a really good quarterback put up
big numbers with a lethal running game and a defense
that has vastly improved improved. And you made a great
point about the schedule because you could look at that
and be like struggling to see the really impressive wins.

(25:33):
It's one thing to play Miami tough, play Texas A
and m tough, but you got to win these games
at some point. That's totally fair. You wouldn't build this
argument based on the resume in terms of who they've beaten.
It's more so the talent that they have, the problems
that they present. And also when you've had the first
two games of CJ. Carr's career, I mean, if those

(25:56):
if Miami and Texas A and m are games like
ten and eleven instead of games one and two, they
might have won both of those games. So yeah, I
like the Irish, And you know, the gambling side of
me too is when you get the Irish at nine
to one, that's a little more appealing than like I
you at five to one, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
So that comes into the equation as well.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
So what's your feeling about Ohio State then?

Speaker 5 (26:18):
Because you didn't really mention them at all, I mean,
are you kind of on the same wavelength to me?

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Where obviously they have.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
Just insane amounts of Sunday talent. They've done that team,
they're they're the defending champions and say it has like
a one hundred percent completion percentage on the season. Right,
But who had they like the best real opponent they've
seen as a Penn State team that had already basically
packed it in for the season.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Yeah, I'm not. I'm not. I'm with you halfway.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
Okay, I'll meet you halfway and then I'll take a
sharp left turn in another direction. Right, all right, You're
completely right about the talent. They have talent all over
this roster, like high end talent, you know, like you
said Sunday talent, I like that got NFL dudes all
over the place. So no one can question the talent
that they have on the roster. What I would question

(27:09):
is just the resume. Like they're the opposite of Georgia
in terms of being battle tested. Their resume is they
beat Texas in the first game of the season, fourteen
to seven at home. Right, that's the beginning and the
end of their impressive resume. They've played nobody. They've haven't

(27:31):
played anybody, right, So that's where when you're getting into
they're gonna have a bye, But you got to win
three games.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
To win a championship.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
I just don't see it from this team, and I
think that I think they're overrated because I'm not saying
they stink at all, that would be ridiculous. But people
struggle with the overrated j Mart. It doesn't mean they stink.
It just means that the reputation is greater than the reality.
The reputation for Ohio State is like.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Oh my gosh, Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
Like this team, what a machine. Look at that defense.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
It's always just roses thrown at their bouquets just hurled
in the air at the and their general direction, you
know what I mean. And it's like, I don't think
their resume warrants that at all. Their resume sucks. They
don't played anybody except Texas, a team that we clown
all the time, and everybody loves to talk trash about Arch.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
You know, that's the only team they barely be.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
I don't have to go into that, but yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
They beat them fourteen to seven. I just I don't
buy it.

Speaker 4 (28:35):
You know, Week one is week one.

Speaker 5 (28:36):
I mean not there name lost in week one too,
Like I mean, there's there's a lot of different ways
to go there. But you're not wrong, like I think that,
And the most important point you made.

Speaker 4 (28:44):
There was the one.

Speaker 5 (28:44):
About being overrated, Like I always say when someone is,
unless you're really being disrespectful when you say a team
is overrated, it doesn't.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
Mean they shouldn't be rated.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
It just means that the car looks a lot better
in the showroom sometimes because of the lighting that's on
it than it does when you have an on the highway.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
It's exactly right, Yeah, the perfect way to say it. Yeah,
it's not to say that they're no good, it's just
like they're talked about in like oh Ohio. I talked
to my dad this week and he was like, what
do you think about Ohio State? And I'm like, I
think they're overrated And he was like what And I
explained it. He was like, I mean, I get it.

(29:21):
I get what you're saying right there. You know, it's
that's what I think, man. I just, uh, I think
you got to be battle tested to a greater degree
for me to really buy into you winning a championship,
and especially when you're the defending champs. You're the team
that it's marked, you know what I mean? And I
think if you really if you look into that too,

(29:43):
like why is Ohio State talked about so glowingly this year.
It's because they want it all last year. That's really why.
And I take nothing away from their championship season, nothing away,
But if we're gonna use that and kind of gauge
where they are this season and make no mistake, that's
what's being done. We could look back and kind of look,

(30:05):
you know, kind of investigate this where you know, you
lost to or again on the road. Okay, you lost
as a three touchdown favorite at home to Michigan, and
then you got hot at the right time. You blew
the doors off a flawed Tennessee team at home, you
crushed Oregon.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
That was very impressive. I take nothing away from that.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
Then you survived against quinn Ewers in Texas, and then
you survived and held on for dear life against Notre
Dame in the title game. Again, take nothing away from
last season. But that's why their name is as big
as it is this season because they're the defending champs.
They haven't done anything resume wise this year to get
any of those accolades. They haven't played anybody, so it's

(30:49):
like we're we're just throwing roses at their feet because
they barely beat Quinn Ewers and held on against Notre Dame.
Like really, I just don't buy it, man tight Ryan Day.
I just don't see them repeating.

Speaker 5 (31:03):
Does anything they do against Michigan, Let's say they go
beat Michigan by fifty, Does that change your opinion at all?

Speaker 3 (31:10):
No, it doesn't, because you know Michigan, Michigan's just I
don't I don't very highly at all. Yeah, it's just
a completely average team. And I think that it would
impress a lot of people just because Ohio State has
lost four straight and it'd be like, well, now they
really mean business. That's like, no, they just beat sort
of an average, maybe sort of sucky Michigan team. You know,

(31:32):
like it wouldn't really do much for me, but I
think it would do a decent amount for people who
are easily impressed by Ohio State.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
So what do you think? Who do you think just
got disrespected most in this segment? Quickly before we get
a break, obviously.

Speaker 3 (31:48):
But.

Speaker 5 (31:51):
Let's throw them out since we just gave them five minutes.
Who that we didn't just talk about at all? Like
there were teams we didn't even mention.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
No, you know, like I you fans A and M fans,
So like, Hello, we're undefeated. You want to go with
Notre Dame? Okay, cool, Yeah, that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
I'm sure.

Speaker 5 (32:06):
Yeah, some of those fan bases would think trying to
figure out how A and M is undefeated after that
South Carolina game?

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Wow? How how does.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
Trying to figure out how Shane Biemer is still there?

Speaker 2 (32:17):
How do they blow a game like that with that
big of a lead? Crazy?

Speaker 3 (32:22):
We got to get into Bama also, because I'm curious
what your thoughts are on Bama. You know, the Saturday
show I do, man, I got a couple of co
hosts willing to, you know, do bodily harm to me
based on how I feel about Alabama. You know, it
is getting crazy over here in these streets, j Mart.
But you know, hey, whatever I thought it was a

(32:44):
thoughts on Alabama. Okay, good, good, I've come to the
right place. Very nice.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
Hey.

Speaker 2 (33:06):

Speaker 3 (33:07):
There is a very popular argument in favor of one
of my favorite teams. But it's a horrible argument. We'll
tell you about that next. He's Jason Martin. I'm Brian No.
We're in for two pros and a cup of Joe

It is Fox Sports Radio. He's Jason Martin. I'm Brian Know.
We're in for two pros and a cup of Joe
here on Fox Sports Radio, and we are live from
the Fox Sports Radio studios. I don't know if we'll
have time for it during the show, j mart but
I'll tell you what. Our guy, Patty sweeka crushing it
as our producer today. His impression of Steven A. Smith

(33:57):
is so good, and his impression of Colin and Cowherd
is the worst impression in the history of impressions.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
I've never heard either one of them.

Speaker 8 (34:06):
Oh my gosh, boy, are you in at some point
in Yeah, we're definitely getting in the in the show
today because I don't understand how one is so good
and the other is so bad.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
But like the cow herd is so bad. It's hilarious
to me.

Speaker 5 (34:22):
Man, I look like Indiana and Purdue and football kinda
yeah right, yeah, exactly, Yeah, Indiana's crushing it, Purdue not
so much.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
Yeah, that's kind of Patty Sweeka doing impressions of various
talk show hosts, you know, but very funny stuff. We'll
get that in in the third hour. We'll definitely get
that in.

Speaker 4 (34:41):
Today.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
There is a very popular argument in favor of my
absolute favorite team in the history of teams, Jason Martin,
and I actually hate this argument. I think it's a
horrible argument. Now it is the Notre Dame fighting Irish.
I'm talking indie football right here from South Bend. Love
Notre Dame football. But you know, this knockdown drag out

(35:05):
between Notre Dame and Miami, who should be in, who
should be out? Back and forth type thing, the head
to head Miami won it. I think that should be
factored in a lot more heavily than the committee is
factoring it in. But the argument I will hear in
favor of Notre Dame is, well, if they met on

(35:25):
a neutral field, now Notre Dame would win, And it's like,
how do we know that exactly? How is that just
sett in stone for sure, no doubt about it? Like
I thought I thought Ohio State was gonna crush Michigan
last year.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
They're favored by three touchdowns. They lost. Like this idea
that oh.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Neutral field, Oh yeah, Notre Dame would win. Notre Dame's
just better. Now, it's like, the better team doesn't always
win a game. So you get this straight. We're putting
a team into the playoff just because we think they
would win on a neutral field. Now, like, really, that
is the body we play the original game, right? Why
don't we go by actual results instead of hypotheticals like

(36:11):
this idea that it's for sure going to happen just
as we see it.

Speaker 2 (36:16):
We've watched enough football to know better than that.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
We can't rank teams higher than the other just because
we think of what would happen.

Speaker 2 (36:24):
Now, that is so bad, man.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
But I hear that all the time right now, and
it's in favor of my Irish, But I think it's
a horribly flawed and awful argument.

Speaker 5 (36:34):
Yeah, Like you can have fun and hypotheticals, but you
can't live in hypotheticals. Like, yeah, there was a game
that was actually played between those two teams.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
That has to matter. It has to factor.

Speaker 5 (36:46):
In in some way, shape or form, or else it
shouldn't have been played in the first place. It makes
no sense to say, well if they played now, Dude,
there's no trade deadline in college football. Josh Allen was
not acquired before the deadline to become played quarterback at
Notre Dame.

Speaker 4 (37:01):
And that's not even throwing shade on their current quarterback.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
But nothing changed about the roster.

Speaker 5 (37:06):
Nothing changed except that Notre Dame has been crushing teams
ever since that point in Miami has shown some flaws.
Do I think that Notre Dame could beat Miami today, Yes,
But I also thought they could beat them in Week one.
That's right, Like it's it's the same exact deal, but
they didn't like that. That's the deal. Like, maybe they
get another opportunity to see each other in the playoff.

Speaker 4 (37:28):
I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
But unfortunately that's the way it played out. I mean,
Alabama would beat Florida State, but they lost to Florida State,
right exactly the first game is that's just that's the
way the game is played. That's how it played out.
I still think Alabama is better than Oklahoma, but they
lost to Oklahoma. That's just that's just kind of the
way it went.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
Again.

Speaker 5 (37:47):
I think Tennessee should have beaten Georgia earlier this season,
but Georgia won that game forty four to forty one, and.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
That's the result. That's that's that's it.

Speaker 5 (37:55):
That's the only metric that we have that is at
least semi objective, is that was a game actually played.
I can't live in a world of hypotheticals where it's, well,
since this should have happened, or since this would happen today.
We need to basically throw out everything that happened prior
and base this on paper, Like how many times is

(38:15):
the old cliche? The games are not played on paper.
This is why they play the games. And now you're
making an argument to the exact opposite effect.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
That's right, it's a great argument laid out very well
by you.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Listen.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
I think that it can make sense to consider more
than just head to head. Okay, if we're just talking fundamentally,
and if we're talking specifically about Notre Dame versus Miami,
the committee wants to consider more than just.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
Head to head.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Okay, you haven't lost me completely yet. If you want
to talk about, hey, Notre Dame has better losses than
Miami does.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
Okay, I'm listening. But it's not like it's night and day.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
When the Committee says, we're not even really comparing these too,
because we don't even view them as equals right now,
It's like, wait a minute, Notre Dame has not played
and beaten murderer's row while Miami hasn't played a soul.
Let's not make it sound like that. That's ridiculous to me.
I don't think Notre Dame has just separated themselves from

(39:19):
Miami in terms of the quality teams they've beaten. You
can make an argument they've lost to better teams, but
at some point head to head has to factor in
more than it has. I just don't think the committee
is factored than in the most and I think this too,
Jay mart like I think Notre Dame fans they gotta
take the Homer test here because I always say this,

(39:41):
if your emotions are invested, you have to flip the
scenario completely around and see if you still have the
same stance. Do you still have the same opinion, because
if you don't it shows that you're being a homer.
Am I to believe that Notre Dame fans if it
was Notre Dame with the head to head win right

(40:02):
against Miami, Miami had better losses, but they hadn't beaten
a ton of great teams. Should I believe that Notre
Dame fans would be saying, oh, yeah, it makes sense
even though we beat Miami, Miami should be ranked ahead
of us.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
There's no way they would be saying that.

Speaker 3 (40:18):
I think a bunch of Notre Dame fans are just
not being honest with themselves in this whole scenario here.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
It pains me to say that, but I think that's
the truth.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
So you have to be very careful that what you
are applying to someone else you would apply to yourself
is basically what you're saying right there. Yeah, and that's
a perfect bridge to what we're going to hit to
open hour two, And that is what if you were
Lane Kiffin, because he's getting a very interesting kind of
mix of critique in the media and then the public

(40:48):
eye and his decisions just a couple of days away.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (40:53):
All right, let's get on board the Lane train. Where
is it headed or is it saying put
