Speaker 3 (00:30):
R give this you're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I mentioned this in the last hour.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
I'm not sure if you've watched the HBO Hard Knocks
the offseason with the New York Giants, but I think
we all had questions about whether this would be entertaining
or it would be something that there would be a
desire for, And honestly, after watching these episode so far
and the highlights that have come out as well, I
(01:03):
would say that I'm much more interested and seeing team
by team how the front office operates, more so than
probably anything else I've seen from Hard Knocks, at least
in a while now that they've kind of softened a
lot of what has been the hard knocks that we
typically see during training camp, and I think because it's
(01:24):
been so much of a mystery in the past, the
offseason has become extremely entertaining. It's become one of the
reasons why the NFL is a three hundred and sixty
five day a year sport because free agency, the draft,
the combine everything that goes into it.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Has become such a big deal.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
And we've gotten some sound bites we're going to take
from Joe Shane, the general manager with the New York Giants.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
But it goes to show you we've kind of said
this for a while now.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
You really can't believe a lot of the things that
you hear when these general managers are.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
At the podium. Just this take and talked about the
Saquon Barkley situation.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
I'm going to say, I know shefter report of that,
So I'm just taking come on, like all options are
on the table, still a saque. We're going to talk
to these people, and but I'm not going to say
we were not going to franchise them.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
We take one.
Speaker 6 (02:15):
I'm just wondering the franchise tag being along to the table.
I wouldn't say the franchise tag is off the table, No,
I mean it's I think the new number if we're
going to franchise somebody for the first time at that position,
is like eleven to nine, and his number is not
much more than that. So salary cap changes your philosophy
and how you're going to attack them. So that's not
off the table.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
And those are the words from Joe Shannon talking about
this past offseason the negotiations with Saquon Barkley, which for
anyone who watched and obviously Saques now with the Philadelphia Eagles,
you were able to ascertain the fact that it was
off the table. In fact, they had made that decision
back during the NFL combine that they weren't going to
use the franchise tag.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
However, that was not the copy line they wanted to
put out there.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
That was not how they want to do display things publicly.
And so it leads you to go down the road
of what else have they maybe lied about, not specifically
the New York Giants, but just any organization.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
You know, it's one thing that's said.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
To the public eye from messaging standpoint, and I think
from keeping it away from a lot of the narratives
that get spun, but also from the standpoint of you
know what other teams have been out there as far
as what they've said publicly have not been what they've
been saying behind closed doors. I think your mind could
wander and go a bunch of different places. But this
is just one example of many.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
In my mind.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Well, I think that one of the interesting things is
the relationship between fans and franchise and fans and players Q.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
That's been an age old.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Deal and there are certain times when the dichotomy between
the two clash. And one of these is when it's
time for a player and a franchise to move on
from a player.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Playing time. You know, if they're starting, if they're not starting.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
There are a few things that I can I mean,
those are a few that men think of that play
a part.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
In fans having to choose.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
And when you have a beloved player and a productive player,
someone who gives you hope, because that's what all of
this is is selling hope. Really, in the end, you're
selling hope that you're the team you cheer for, that
you buy apparel for, that you buy tickets for and
travel to see and take your vacation from real life
(04:44):
to enjoy seeing your favorite team and favorite players play,
you know when you disrupt that you have to do
damage control. So if you know that somebody is filming
you or your doing an interview and you know that
that's gonna get out there and be used in terms
(05:05):
of how things went, you gotta put you gotta put
a plan in place as to how you're going to
handle discussing those types of topics that can't be popular
even now today, that you allowed Saquon Barkley to leave,
to leave New York and and basing it because later on,
(05:25):
I don't know if he was the same voice that
that talked about we're not paying twelve to fourteen million
dollars to Saquon a running back to have pay what
we're paying to our quarterback, like we're not doing that.
It's just that to me, that was that was a
that was a bad move, That that was a bad
(05:46):
that was a bad play on their part. But I
think that that's ultimately what players and franchises organizations, in
a lot of ways they have to take into consideration
as it applies to the relationship. Because one thing we
do know, Q, the relationship will eventually end. Now doesn't
(06:06):
end in terms of you retiring with that team, and
the relationship continues on in the post career or doesn't
end with you going to another team. And generally when
you go to another team, once you've been with a
team that you've built a relationship where you're actually significant
enough and important enough for this to even be a conversation,
(06:30):
they generally don't end well, they just generally don't end
on great terms.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
That's just that's.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
The And then now fans are forced to choose a
side for a time before they actually maybe possibly you know,
healed from from the from the pain of it and
begin to cheer for their team again and find a
new player.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
That they like.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
Yeah, and I want to go back and reference the
fact that you know, we initially heard Joe Shane talking
to the public or the media about their plans for
Saquon Barkley and saying that all options are on the table.
Let's go back with a little bit of sound that
we have of a conversation between Joe Shane and Saquon
Barkley where the narrative changes a little bit.
Speaker 7 (07:15):
Yeah you doing all right?
Speaker 8 (07:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Changed?
Speaker 1 (07:18):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (07:19):
You in Jersey right now?
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Yeah? Yeah, how's the off season? Ben you've been you
doing anything good?
Speaker 1 (07:26):
I'm good traveling, starting to get back into the.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Changes.
Speaker 7 (07:32):
Yeah, all right, So I just I just talked to
Ed Barry, and I think just rolling over this, the
right thing to do is let you test the market
and see what your value is. I don't want to
do the franchise thing or all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Again. I don't want to go through that.
Speaker 7 (07:49):
We've we've both been through that. You know, if if
you really want to be a giant for life and
you're interested in staying here and coming back, just see
what your market is and then have Ed come back
to us and we'll see if we can we can
come to an agreement. All right, does that sound good?
Can you give me your word on that? Or you
you you're not going to give us a chance?
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Wait?
Speaker 7 (08:16):
Okay, all right, well let's do that. We'll go out
and see what the see what the market says. I
think it's the right thing to do. I love you, man,
I appreciate everything you did for the organization, you know,
the two years I was here. And I'm not saying
we're not going to get something done, but I think
it's right if if for some reason it doesn't work out,
that you know that the organization thinks the world will
you and everything you've done, but hopefully you know, you
(08:38):
go out there, you see the market and you say,
you know what, I want to be here, and you
give us a shout back.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
I appreciate it, all right, I'll talk to you all right.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
And so what I love about this is it gives
you a sneak peek into kind of just how it
all works behind the scenes, where again publicly they're saying
one thing, all options are on the table.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
We knew right then and there.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
And that was again back around the combine. I believe
that that period of time before the start of the
new league year where they had this conversation.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
But more so than.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
That, aside from the fact that what was put out
there public it was different than what was told to
Saquon behind closed doors, it's it's also just so people
hear the conversations that are had with a player that,
you know, for everything Saquon did with the New York Giants,
there are way you go a handle like well and
and look, obviously that was a you know, amicable Uh,
(09:32):
it was fine.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
It wasn't you know, contentious in any way.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
They weren't going back and forth in any way, but
that is speak for like, we're gonna let you go
see what your value is. I mean, let's just look
at this like any relationship that you've been in your life, right.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Things aren't going well. You're trying to figure out if.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
We're gonna have a long term commitment, and you look
at them and say, yeah, yeah, go see what's out there.
Go feel like you're you is then come back like
you are basically allowing that person to say bye bye,
and you're okay with it because it's your choice. Right,
It's the whole Seinfeld reference it's not you, it's me
(10:11):
kind of thing. Well, really, you just want to get
out of the relationship. Like they knew they weren't going
to get him back. So you know, like even though
there's cameras behind closed doors and the editing and everything
else that goes on with all this, they understood that.
You know, they put on a face like we want
your back and your promise, they know they're not getting
him back.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
And he knew it. He could.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
You could hear it in say Quan's voice that he
was over it, like it was so it was such
a disingenuous call. He could have he could have sent
the email. You know, for what that was worth. It
was there. Then you have the nerve to say I
love you at the end of the call. You don't
love him, Get out of here with that. You don't
(10:52):
love him, give him that's say do you promise? Do
you promise? You know what that was? You know what
that was, Q. That was as a breakup and you
wanted him to go find someone else. You wanted you
wanted it to end because you knew the value of
what he is and what he represents isn't what you're
(11:13):
willing to pay. So I'm trying to break up with you,
but I want to break up with you in a
way where you don't hate me, like like just just
be like I respect when people are are, just how
they are and who they are.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Don't be fake.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Just be who you are, like you were nervous to
be who you were with Saquon in that moment in time.
Just be who you are. We're not bringing you back, right.
I hope you find I hope you land somewhere else.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
But well, that's the best part of the conversation is
when you kind of go where you're at right now
in New Jersey?
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Okay, what do Yeah, I'm hanging on the fan, okay,
Like you have.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
This small talk before a life altering decision, right, Like
I mean, just having been a part of those conversations,
it's like, dude, rip the bandit off, Like I don't
even have broker coded.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
I don't even ask me how I'm doing.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
It's like no one cares how either of us are
doing right now right And there's probably people out there
who are like, you got you sound like an a hole.
Speaker 2 (12:10):
I'm like, no, that that's like the reality.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Of it is when when it comes down to those
kind of pressure pack, huge life moments and conversations, it's
just like, let me hear what's your decision. There's no
reason to sugarcoat and go through the the you know,
theatrics of hey man, we love you, you know we you know.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
We really want There's there's no point. Yeah, and come
back from Saquon. You didn't hear Saquon like where are
you at?
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Bro Like we're catching a bear later on, like how's
the wife, how's the kids? Like how's everything going? Like
Saquon didn't even want to be on the phone with him, But.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
How are we moving on the phone, which hopefully allows
fans who are Giants fans or Saquon fans to understand
why maybe Philly does look more attractive.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
You know, it's a divisional opponent.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
And then you know, being drafted to a team like
the Giants, you are taught to have.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Some hatred towards your visional rivals.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
And yet when something like this happens where you have
an injury, you overcome that injury.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
You become a.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Huge piece of that team. And it's stability to a
degree on offense, and you go through adversity, and you
go through coaching change, you go through all these things. Yeah,
you're the one constant. It does feel like there's a
lack of appreciation for what you've done when you've done
everything on your end of things that you should do
and then a division rival values you more than your
(13:30):
own team does that drafted you.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
So, which is brilliant on Philly's part.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Because he is an eastern side of the state of Pennsylvania. Kid,
he already has a tremendously built in fan base in Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
So he's a Big Ten champion.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
That's the last Big Ten championship we won was when
Sakwan was there, So I mean it goes without saying, like,
for Philly, that a tremendous win, not just because you're
getting an amazing football player that still has tread on
the tires, but he's a penn State he's a former
Penn State superstar, a legend, an icon of the school,
(14:14):
and you're bringing him back to Pennsylvania. I mean there's
something to that's it's just a poorly played It was
a poorly played round of poker by the New York Giants.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Yeah, if you even want to call it that. I
think the other thing that it highlights is, you know
when you make.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Excuses for we're paying our quarterback forty million, We're not
gonna pay our running back fourteen or you know, fourteen,
twelve million, whatever the number is in that ballpark, it's like, well,
why not? You know, other teams are paying their quarterbacks
north of fifty average annual value per year. You are
obviously getting your player at a discount, but maybe for
(14:53):
a reason.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
I mean, this is a make or break year for
Daniel Jones.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
And there's a lot of people who aren't optimistic about
his bill to carry this offense throwing the football, especially
now Saquan's not.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
There, and that's a problem.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
So if you really go back on it, you know,
if I was sitting in that room, I'd be saying
to Joe Shane or whoever made the comment that we
don't pay our quarterback forty million, you know, to hand
off the football, or you were paying forty million.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
For this reason.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
It's like, well, yeah, we do, but we're also paying
the forty million. We're not paying fifty million. Dak Prescott's
trying to go for sixty million in his next contract
average annual value that has the report that is out,
So you're you're paying your guy, all right, you're in
the division of that team what they may be paying
their guy, and Dak statistically being one of the better,
more productive quarterbacks, blows away anything Daniel Jones has done
(15:44):
in his career thus far from a passing standpoint, and
you're paying your guy two thirds of that, don't you
think maybe there's a reason, then, Like, don't you think
maybe there's a reason why you could have saved some
cap space for Saquon Barkley because he is that influential
in your offense running and catching the football. I mean,
that's what doesn't make sense to me is when you
start talking about how teams are structuring their cap where
(16:06):
they're spending their money.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
I mean, you just spent a.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Sixth overall pick on a wide receiver. You got him
as rookie deal, so hopefully he turns out to be
what you want. But combine him and take some pressure
off him with a running back and a running game,
and look, maybe they'll be able to with more of
a running back by committee approach with what they did
in the offseason. But that's what surprises me too, is
if your justifications, well, we're paying our quarterback forty million, okay,
(16:32):
like you still need pieces around him, and especially a
guy that has been proven that.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
He needs pieces around him.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
It's not Patrick Mahomes who's proven that when Tyreek Hill
left he can still go win a Super Bowl. Not
the same deal here, So I found it. Look again,
I am a huge fan of the HBO hard knocks
the off season. I hope they continue to do this.
I think this is way more appealing, and especially during
this time of year where there's really not any football
(16:59):
going on outside of some of these continued negotiations that
are coming up as training Camp, you know, heads our way.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
I hope they continue to do this series.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
I think this is one of the more interesting that
they've done now that the hard knocks in.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Training camp that you and I remember has kind of
been more watered down. So we got to take a break.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
On the other side, though, we'll talk about some of
the various topics that are going around the college football
world and who is the number one rated quarterback in
the new EA Sports College Football Game.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Here on the other side, be sure to catch live
editions of Two Pros and a Cup of Joe with
Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and Jonas Knox weekdays at six
am Eastern, three am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and
the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Just plug it along here on a Thursday on Two
Pros and a Cup of Joe on Brady Quinn. That's
LeVar Arrington, the legend Stick City himself.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Hey, no Jonas Knox today taking off today tomorrow. But
we mentioned that.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Last segment, there's a number one player, a top of
the EA Sports College Football Game that's coming back out.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Finally, did you used to play it back in the day, LeVar?
I did? Did you? I used to use myself in
the game. Yeah, yeah, so you played with yourself play
I was playing with myself. I bet you do. I
bet you were, Bud. I was really good at it too.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Which I was was called out by Shadora Sanders because
he said, oh, you don't know the game that if
he didn't play a mascot mode, which I was like,
wait a second. I was like, first off, I'm I'm
not really a I was not really a gamer anyway.
I didn't grow up with video games. That's a whole
nother separate story. But he like, is this true, Like did.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
You play with mascot mode because it must be like.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
A younger I don't recall that. Yeah, that might have
been later on. It definitely was a late one.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
But he made it like a this is what you
had to do, and I'm like, well, that's fine, but
I would rather play with like teams that I recall
from back in the day. I grew up, you know,
watching and was like out in the backyard throwing the
football acting like I was like, you know, I was
that player. Cordell Stewart to Michael Westbrook the Hail Marytt.
(19:23):
I thought he was talking to Rick George about that
yesterday just about how influential that specific play was to
me and my childhood and watching Colorado football. But I digress.
The Cats out of the bag. The number one rated
quarterback is Shude or Sanders heading into the EA Sports
(19:43):
College Football game release. There's some other players up there.
Travis Hunter Junior, his teammate, the outstanding wide receiver cornerback,
also has one of the highest ratings where I think
might be the highest rated player in the game.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
But either way, it's cool to have it back as
part of it.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
There's even players like Archie Manning, who there was a
report he wasn't going to be a part of He
wasn't gonna be a part of the game.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Now he is going to be a part of the game.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
Either way, I think it's a good sign for college
football continue to build the national brand that's more becoming.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
When I looked at the list and looked at the ratings,
I mean they did a top one hundred.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Obviously, you know.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
They don't have Shador in the top top ten top
ten players though, right if I if I saw it correctly,
like it's Travis Hunter is in there, but I don't
think Shador is in there.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
As a top ten player? Am I wrong on that?
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Am I on my kind of like what I looked up?
Speaker 4 (20:46):
But I don't know exactly the overall ratings. I just
know he's the number one ready quarterback in Okay. Which
there's some Georgia fans who might say, hey, we've got
a kid that's a pretty dark target target player in
Carson Beck that maybe should be up there. Maybe there's
some other folks out there feel like there's there's other
quarterbacks who could be in the mix. Cam Ward obviously
was heavily sought after a transfer portal player now at
(21:08):
the at the U, maybe some people feel like he's
a dynamic special player. But whatever the case may be,
he is the top rated quarterback for what's top rated? Yeah,
because I think Will Johnson the key. He's the top
overall player, top overall player.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
And then you got guys like they have two Georgia
guys in the top ten James Pierce, who I love
his game. He's an edge out of Tennessee. I mean
I think that it's very competitive. I know that Penn
State had Nick Singleton and Abdul Carter and Kevin Winston
(21:44):
as ninety one rated players. I know Abdull posted like shade,
you know, he felt like it was wrong that they
had him rated at ninety one and not higher. I
think feel like everybody's going to have their their opinion
and their idea of what their ratings should have been.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
What did you care back then? I cared? I cared, yeah,
but but it was like thought about you and like,
what did you need to put it on you in
a game?
Speaker 1 (22:11):
I didn't even think of it that way back then though.
I wasn't aware enough to know that it was a
bunch of nerds doing it. But I know it's a
meat headed comment. Yeah I really mean that, but that's
all good. But I did care, And I think it's
interesting because in a way, Q, you're kind of you're
kind of setting the stage for what you may possibly
(22:35):
see going into post college season, into the Combine, and
into the draft, depending on how these players perform. It
kind of gives you like a precursor for one for
two for the players. I think it's interesting because if
you do care, well, you know what, do something about it,
So it adds a little bit of extra motivation. If
(22:58):
I'm sure Door Sanders I want to stay a highly
rated guy. If I'm a guy that didn't get as
highly rated as I wanted to get or you know,
it didn't feel I felt slighted.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Then go out there improve it, you know, go out
there improve it.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
So I think there's some interesting, interesting things that could
play out from the return of EA, you know, college sports,
college football.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
It'll be interesting to see social media.
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Wise, how the players are reacting as the season you know,
starts and continues on.
Speaker 4 (23:35):
Well, there's there's a reaction from players, there's a reaction
from the media too. And there's an interesting article that
came out at CBS sports dot com by Dennis Dodd
in ranking the hot seat.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
It's the hot seat rankings.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
I guess your annual coverage of which college football coaches
make it canned. Never an easy conversation to talk about,
and I'm not trying to make light of it, given
the impact that it has on the coach, their family,
other assistant coaches that are on those staffs. However, they
are compensated very nice, very well for their services sometimes
(24:06):
to not coach, so you can't.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Feel that bad.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
But looking at this list at the top of the
list for teams that it's maybe now or never. Guys
like Sam Pittman, the head coach at Arkansas, it feels
like after a promising start, they've really kind of started
to fall off and lost the identity they once built.
It's only gonna get more difficult. Texas and Oklahoma up
the entering the conference. Billy Napier, who hasn't been at
(24:30):
Florida that long, but in looking at what he's done
since he's gotten there and the struggles they've had in
the past couple of seasons, you just get a sense
and feel that with this schedule they have this year,
arguably the toughest in college football, it's gonna be hard
for him to be able to make it through unscathed
and be able to still have his job in Gainesville.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
On the other side of it, that's just.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
Two of the coaches that it seems like they've got
their work cut out for him, two of the bigger
names at two of the bigger program.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
And I'm curious because your thoughts on.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
Crystal Ryan Day, who in this article is you know,
they don't put his seat is hot. They would describe
it as getting warmer, and I would challenge that assessment
only because of the success he's had outside of against
the rival that team up north, because if you're purely
basing it.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
On that, this season could literally just come down.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
To that singular game and if they don't beat Michigan
it you'd be hard pressed to go through the history
of the over Ohio State versus Michigan and how many
coaches were able to survive losing that many times. I mean,
John Cooper falls in that category. But ultimately he lost
his job for not.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
Beating Michigan enough. Yeah he did. I was there, I
watched it. I'll say I mean I was gone by
the time that happened.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
But you're right.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
I made this point during the season this past season.
That's the premise of letting Ryan Day go, that he
doesn't beat Michigan enough, because now it's been two times
that he's lost to Michigan.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
I just I would just say then it.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
You know, if he loses again for a third time,
nature has run its course and Ryan Day will go
to another program and he will most likely have success
out another program because he's a fine coach. He just
hasn't been fine enough to beat Michigan. And I just
(26:38):
I made this conversation as it applied to I don't
want to bring Frank into it too much because he's
not on the list, so thank goodness, I don't want
him on the list. But how do you find yourself wanting,
wanting to replace and fire a coach.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
That all he does is win?
Speaker 1 (27:01):
All Ryan Day has done since taking over a daunting task.
By the way, who's going to just step in right
after urban Meyer and continue to win at the rapid
clip that that Ryan Day did?
Speaker 2 (27:18):
It was Ryan Day.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
And because he loses two years straight to Michigan, you
want him out, Like, okay, you might bring in another coach.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
What if that coach starts using three years three years straight.
Speaker 1 (27:35):
Okay, you bring in another coach and he starts losing
more games, what are you going to do?
Speaker 2 (27:42):
They're bringing in new teams. There's going to be a team.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
If you if you remember who was the team when
Ohio State was highly rated and had a lot of
national championship expectations on them, what was the team that
came into the horseshoe and beat them?
Speaker 4 (28:03):
I guess At Penn State, it was Oregon, it was
Orgon and now they're in the Big Ten.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Now Washington is in the Big Ten. Ye these types
of schools, they're going to come in and somebody is
going to get clipped by one of these new teams.
And to me, you're you're we're looking at these hot
(28:33):
seats for guys like Ryan Day who have had what
his only loss last year, well he had two love
he had a loss in the I don't count the
bowl game, but his only loss during the season was
to Michigan.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
That was it.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Like, that was it, and you want him out that
just as big as the rivalry is.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
But it will never sensibly make sense to me that
a man lost one game and you want him.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Out, and it never makes sense. So if he only
went that doesn't I know it doesn't.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
But being from CLUBUS Ohio, understanding the expectations for Ohio State,
understanding the perspective of Ohio State fans and how they
view Michigan and vice versa, you know, I've got Michigan alums.
I understand, my family O House State alum and my
family understand. I completely get it because that's the measuring stick.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
They all need help, all et help, that's true, but
I need the different That's that's the measuring stick, and
that's where like you can apply this to could they
lose every other game and as long as they beat
he beats Michigan, and he's okay.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
Is he saying that there will be elements of that?
But I think we both know that's a hypothetical that's
probably not ever going to happen. That being said, like
you could apply that same thing to anything in the
business world. You know, when you're in competition with another
TV network, you're in competition other business, you're measured against
your competition. You're measured against your greatest competitor arrival. Sure,
(30:08):
and that is ultimately what ends up writing the legacy.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
And the story. And that's the unfortunate part for Ryan
da has been one of.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
The best college football coaches that it's just been that
game that's been elusive for them.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
And I do think this year will be the turning
of the tide.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
You know, it's nothing against Michigan, but they've lost a
ton transition year for Sharon moren Out taking over his
full time head coach, and this is a very talented
Ohio State team that should be able to take care
of business hosting that game in clubs frount Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
I do want to get to one more name that's
on this list as Mario Christoval, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Who hasn't been at Miami very long. You know, he's
been there now a couple of seasons. However, to twelve
and thirteen overall record in that span, and remember he
was paid a ten year, eighty million dollars contract and
they've hit the transfer portal big, spending tons of money.
Cam Ward, their quarterback who they'd taken from Washington State,
(31:02):
is one of those guys to remind you. And I
also think it's tough to be able to watch the
mediocrity that's taken place when there was initially so much
excitement for Mario christaball who returned to South Florida.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
But also the fact you've had Florida State, which is
won the ACC.
Speaker 4 (31:19):
In that span, and you see if another in state
school that's making headway and improving under gust Blazon in
the Big twelve, and so it only makes the lack
of production in the ACC seem even that much more disappointing.
I think for a lot of Miami fans who had
big expectations. So that is a team that is a
(31:40):
school that even with the gigantic buyout, that it would
be to move on from Mario Cristobal.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
They've got a booster write that check.
Speaker 4 (31:48):
John Ruiz has ponied up to try to win it,
conten for a playoff spot, and I do think this
year will be the year that they do it. But
if they don't keep an eye on that one, because
that could be one that could get a little bit contentious,
a little bit crazy.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Thank you're right.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
Coming up next here on Two Pros and a Cup

the leader when it's.

All said and done.
Speaker 4 (32:54):

Now it's time for the Express pros Pro of the
(33:16):
Week and the Pro of the Week Ghost too.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Nice step to the penetration.
Speaker 3 (33:22):
Bronni got the reverse good passed by Dalton Connect.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Yes, none other than Bronnie James congrated Bronni for being
our Express pros Pro of the Week back from his
summer league debut, filling out that box score. As one
of my buddies described to me last night, in his performance,
I'm not sure if you got to see the stat line,
but again, you know, he's kind of an all around player.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
I guess that's how you put it, LaVar.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Sure, that's all doctor, that's all I got. That's all
that's the that's the player, that's the player in the week.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Huh yeah, I actually had said over to it. Clip
that was going viral, you know, round of applause for Look,
we're not trying to make fun of it, it's just
it is what it is. There was a clip that
went viral though, talking about the or she's not talking
about showcasing after a dead whistle, Bronnie taking a shot
(34:22):
at the hoop and missing everything from about ten feet away.
So there was that, But it's it's yeah, it's been
a bit of a uh, it's been a slow start,
but look, he's a young player.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
He's got a ton of development.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
That's the thing that I think a lot of people
who are Ronnie James fans, legacy fans, should focus on.
That being said, if it's any indication of where the
season is going for the Lakers, they have started off
zero to three in the summer League. Not that that
is the best indicator of anything, but if it is,
it's not looking good for.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
The Lakers so far.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Can I just ask a question, go ahead, who picked
the player?
Speaker 2 (34:59):
A that would be Lee? Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 9 (35:04):
I'll jump on that grenade.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Yeah, do you want to explain yourself? By the way,
is I actually was looking for Paul Skans.
Speaker 4 (35:09):
Which we couldn't figure out a way of getting Paul
Skians sound bites.
Speaker 8 (35:13):
You know, I was trying to pull up some Paul
Skiings highlights. Unfortunately, you know, Pitcher highlights are a little
hard to come by sometimes, But Paul Skins, I would
say this is definitely worthy of Express pros Pro the Week.
Otherwise we could have gone, you know, UEFA could have gone.
Uh copa America, Lee.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
Why are you saying the things we could have gone
when you specifically told me we couldn't because we didn't
have sound of different things that would have did that.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Like, you're only out of yourself here, Bud.
Speaker 9 (35:42):
Would you have been happier if we talked that, I mean.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
We would not have been happier. I'll say this.
Speaker 9 (35:48):
Team USA versus a team Canada.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Yesterday I got unhappy. He's the pro of the week?
Is he not? Is he not? The Let me give
you his full box score from last night. He had
three points on one of three shooting.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
Line, five rebounds, three assists, two steals, three blocks. I
mean that's a pretty solid all around performance. You know,
he was plus eight and plus minus, so he was
adding value when he was on the floor.
Speaker 9 (36:17):
I had a good Anthony Edwards buzzer beating three.
Speaker 4 (36:24):
On live radio when you spend the entire segment just
bombarding my email and not texting like I asked you to,
with all things that we could even use.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
So I'm not sure why this matters nowly well, our
credibility is in question right now.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
Bro, If you could only understand the behind the scenes,
sometimes it is amazing.
Speaker 9 (36:43):
Yes, exactly. I was very happy to get my email
back up and running.
Speaker 4 (36:46):
So there, Oh did you you got your your I
couldn't even tell which one you're setting. You're sending so
many at this point.
Speaker 9 (36:51):
That's why I'm so happy.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Okay, I'm glad you're happily.
Speaker 4 (36:55):
That's that's all that really mattered is stick with us
here on two pros and a couple you on the
other side.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
More happiness from lead A Lap
