am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. You can find your

Speaker 2 (00:33):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh what's going on?
Happy Sunday to you. It's not Sunday. Happy Monday to you.
I didn't go to sleep last night, Jeff. You know
I'm still sucking that.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
I don't know how. You just don't sleep.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
My body won't let me, dude. I would love to
go to sleep like a normal human being, but I'm
a vampire. I don't know what it is with the
early morning hours where you know, it's around midnight. The
show starts at three am West Coast time, and I'd
love to get a couple hours. My body's just like, no, no,
you don't go to bed this early. What are you doing?

(01:11):
And then Oreo wanted in the neighborhood cat. So I
gotta let Oreo in. We just hung out for a.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Little while, you know, after this though.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, I'll sleep for you know, yeah, I'll sleep for
hours after this show. But yeah, I don't know. I
just can't. I can't get it done, can't do it.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
You're here, though, I'm here.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, I'm fired up to be here too. So I
love this drop. We were just talking about movies off
the year for a second. For some reason, I saw
a Matt Damon commercial, you know, the Matt Damon commercials
with what's the soccer player dude's name? I know he's
way more famous than Matt.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
David.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Who's the guy.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
On the Guys?

Speaker 2 (01:52):
No? No, it's uh Beckham, It's Beckham. Yeah, my gosh, wow,
yeah David Beckham.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
But I was just asking Lee Robert de Lap, the
fourth our trusted producer here, what his favorite Matt Damon
movie was, and so we were talking about that. So, uh,
while we're talking movies here, this is the famous U
drop from one of the Soft ranchise movies.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I want to play a game.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
I want to play a game. How about we play
a game right here, Jeff. So this is the way
it's gonna work, all right, very simple concept. I'll throw
out a couple of quarterbacks and you tell me if
it's a mistake or if it makes sense that they
got zero playing time in week one of the preseason. Okay,

(02:36):
all right, very simple concept here, and shout out to
about my grade school football coach, coach Ray Garza. Jeff,
he was known for this. Shout out to coach Garza.
If we messed up, he would just yell, like, mistake
and then we'd have to do grassers at the end
of practice. You know, a mistake equaled five updowns if
you will so you can you can channel your inner

(02:58):
Ray Garza if you would like, and really a mistake, Yeah,
just yell it, get into it. Is it a mistake
or does it make sense that Bear's quarterback case?

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Mistake?

Speaker 4 (03:09):
There?

Speaker 3 (03:10):
I when when? When? When they when they ran out yesterday?
The starters ran out yesterday and he was not starting
quarterback and it was Badget. I couldn't believe it. I
do not understand.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
Yeah, the the the positives of him playing outweigh the
negatives by one hundred points, Like, it's not even close.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
What are the negatives? He gets hurt? No, one gets
taken back. Very rarely do quarterbacks get hurt. You can't
say no one else because I'm very fantasy. Romo got
hurt nine years ago in the preseason. No one gets
hurt in the preseason. There there there was an entire
week of preseason football. How many starters in the National
Football League got hurt playing in a game?

Speaker 2 (03:56):
I don't I don't think any of them.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Zero pay zero. So I didn't get it. Man, I'm
a little concerned about Chicago. I'm not gonna lie. I'm
a little concerned about it.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Oh, it's an absolute mistake, mistake. As coach Garza would say, Jeff,
just run down the list of reasons why. He's got
a new offensive line in front of him, at least
the interior offensive line completely new. He's got a brand
new head coach, a different concepts, like different playbook. All

(04:30):
of it is different. He's got some different playmakers around
him as well. Why wouldn't you get him on the
field and get him some reps. Then look at Week one,
he's facing Brian Flores Vikings defense with all this complex stuff,
Tua Plade who's banged up all the time, and Caleb
Williams is in street clothes. What are you doing? Bears?

(04:51):
That was a hideous call on their part.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Now, I will say that if you play your starting quarterback,
you have to play most of your starting offensive line
as well. Yeah, but like Joe Toney probably doesn't need
to play the preseason, so you would play everyone but
Joe too. It's still funny you can't play your starting
quarterback and the backup offensive line. Right, but are you
telling me that like darn Ald Wright couldn't used some
reps right Like? It's yeah, it's it blows my mind.

(05:18):
A day the day went in that direction and and
just decided not to play him. I I just it
concerns me about Ben Johnson.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
I know it. And he's a second year guy. I
get it. If he's a veteran, been around a long time.
He had a shaky rookie season and I don't know, man,
I would get him a couple of drives and get him,
get his feet wet, you know, get him some game
like situations prepared. I just think there's far more good
than bad. Again, the bad is he gets hurt, Well

(05:50):
what else, They're a lot more good realistically to come
from it. Okay, let's go with another quarterback here, mistake
or makes sense. Aaron Rodgers no playing time for the Steelers.
What do you think?

Speaker 3 (06:05):
I I I think it's probably fine. He's playing a
football in his life, and I could see, like if
he plays Game two, which I don't. I haven't seen
the announcement of starters for game two. I think it's
I think it's okay for him not to play in
the first game if he plays in the second game.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Yeah, I think you're right. I'm gonna go a little
bit different. I'm gonna go small mistake. This is not
a Caleb Williams Bears like mistake, but I think small mistake. Again,
when you have brand new teammates, get out there, get
at least a drive. I think it. I think there's
some some benefits for doing that. But again, a small mistake.

(06:43):
He's been around for so long. It's not as if
he's going to be like way behind not getting him
out there. How about this. I think probably be on
the same page on this one. Joe Flacco makes sense
or a mistake that he didn't get out there with
the with the Browns.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Oh he didn't have to play.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Yeah, No, it makes sense to not get out there.
You're just trying to get him healthy. You're trying to
get him the week one.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
You have to just get there for then Santas will
take over like in a week five, so it didn't
matter anyways.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Do you think that will happen?

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Yeah, I think I think so. I think Sanders will
play sooner or later, and he'll he'll will pass doing Gabriel,
which I thought this was all wrong. It's nothing new,
But I think Sanders will get the backup job. And
Flacco did not play well last season. No, I think
that we look at this and he didn't play well
last year. He's not. He's forty one. He can't move, don't.
I don't. The Browns offensive line is getting older, and

(07:36):
wide receivers aren't great. I don't know why people think
he's gonna play well.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
I cashed a couple of Flacco interception bets last year
that worked out pretty well. When he's with the cold,
I remember, yeah, and listen, man, that just shows you
how bad Anthony Richardson is at football. I mean really,
that's the thing, because when Flacco initially took over for Richardson,
You're like, wow, look at this, he's completing passes, they're

(08:02):
moving the ball, they're scoring some points, and then you
gave it a few more weeks and you're like, all right,
the magic has worn off. But initially it's just like, man,
how do we play Anthony Richardson when we've got this
Joe Flacco guy who's more productive. It's just it's embarrassing
what's happened with Anthony Richardson and the colts man. But
that's where they are. I was also thinking this, Jeff,

(08:25):
you tell me if this makes any sense or not,
because I was thinking about how it's been thrown out
there where there's this trendy quarterback comparison, and there are
a lot of people that will say, well, hey, c J. Stroud,
the Texans quarterback, he took a step back in his
second season, right, So is that gonna happen with Jaden Daniels?

(08:45):
Is he gonna take a step back to sophomore slump?
You and I are on the same page where we
don't think that's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Right.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Daniels special talent, different player, uses his legs quite a bit,
different teammates around. I just don't see him falling off
the sea way that CJ. Stroud fell off. How about
this for a different comparison. Could you see remember how
Bryce Young started out? He was really rough, and then
last year he played a lot better. Could you see

(09:16):
a step forward? Caleb Williams wasn't as bad his rookie year.
That's not the comparison. But could you see a big
step forward from Caleb Williams the Bears quarterback? You know,
new head coach? Yeah, supporting cast a better offensive line.
I could see at least at the end of the
season us saying wow, a lot better than his rookie season. Right,

(09:37):
Maybe that's the comparison to make.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
I mean, I think we're gonna see just structurally that
the offense the Chicago runs will help Caleb Willmans be better. Yeah,
And so it was so dysfunctional last year. I think
now I don't know if he will be as good
as we thought he could be. I just I get
some concerns. Here's the concern. So, like, when these quarterbacks

(10:03):
are at practice and mistakes are fine in practice, I
think we overanalyze practice reps and interceptions and whatnot, and
mistakes are made. But with a lot of these these guys,
the reports of the good quarterbacks are just like, you know,
mom's had a good day. I don't have a good day.
Do an interception or two, but you know, a good day.
And maybe Caleb Woman's being judged on an unfair curve,

(10:26):
but because there's so much attention to him, but I'm
not we're not getting that from Williams. From Bear's camp.
It's oh boy, another even day for Kayleb Williams. Oh
didn't look great here. Guy can't hit the net when
he throws the ball into the hole.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
That's crazy.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
And so like those, we're just not getting the typical
training camp fluff reports that we get when it comes
to you know, these sort of you know they they want,
you know, they want hunt. You want to be positive
in training camp, right, you want to get your fan
base excited if you cover the team. It just feels

(11:07):
like people are like, I don't know, I don't know
about Williams, like we haven't seen it sort of quite yet.
He's obviously very talented. I think Ben Johnson will get
the most he can out of him, so it'd be
better than last season. But I don't expect I really
don't to be some great Bears revival this year.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Okay, listen. I'm not saying he goes crazy and goes
nuts this year. I think that he could take a
noticeable step forward. I just think the thing with Caleb
Williams two things. The first thing is, unless you're certified,
you know, like you've put up numbers for a while,
and we know, okay, Josh Allen is a top guy.
Mahomes top guy, Like you're certified, you've been knighted. Unless

(11:48):
you've been knighted, when you have a rough day in
training camp, it's like, uh oh, where do things stand exactly?
We don't think that with the top guys. You know,
if Justin Fields goes out and stinks it up in
training camp with the Jets, it's like, uh oh uh,
here we go again.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
You know.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
So until he gets to that status, like we're going
to freak out about what he does in training camp.
And I think that's all tied to the expectations initially
number one overall, pick all this talent, what we thought
he would be, what he's expected to be, and he
didn't live up to expectations in year one. So I
think people are just freaking out. That might be a

(12:26):
common trend.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
It's certainly fair to view those reports with that lens,
because I mean, look, the way you judge someone's career
right or wrong, is off their draft slot. Right, I
was seventh round pick. My career always gets judged as
a seventh round pick, where if your first round pick,
first pick overall, you always get judged off of that,
and then you get compared to your peers when you're

(12:49):
when you're drafted that high, I don't get compared to
any seventh round They're not like, oh, Shorts played eight years,
but this guy played nine. No one cares when your
seventh round pick, but they do care when you're Then
we'll picking the and Jaane Daniels plays so well as
rookie season, so everything that Williams does is now going
to be tied to Jadon Daniels' success, and so that's
where there's a lot of pressure on him. Even more

(13:11):
is because he's got a basically play well because Jane
Daniels has played well and look, to be fair, william
can still have a good career. But it's very rare
to have a situation where two quarterbacks in the same
draft class are like world class players. It's a rarity. Obviously,
nineteen eighty three very rare even like four, and then

(13:33):
and then the two like the Burrow Burrow Herbert to
I mean Borrough Herbert, Like that's one of that's a
rare year. But again, like those are like every twenty
years one year that it has multiple franchise type changing quarterbacks,
and so it would be a rarity for that to

(13:56):
be the case here as well. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Yeah, I also think last thing I'll say is I
think Caleb Williams is the most scrutinized player in the
NFL right now. I don't know who's even that close
to Caleb Williams when we're breaking down him missing a
net in training camp, but like Coward's freaking out. Coward's
one of the smartest dudes in sports radio ever, and

(14:20):
he's freaking out like he took it down off the
Bear's website. It's not a good look. It's like he
doesn't matter at all. He drained multiple shots right after that.
No one cares. It's just he's the most scrutinized guy
right now. Number one. Pick all the opinions he generated
from people when he was at college just translated to

(14:40):
the NFL. No one is under the microscope more than
Caleb Williams is right. Now, we're not breaking down anybody
else's training training camp net throws than Caleb Williams. It's crazy.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Well, I think it's just because it was so bad,
like that's it. You don't breaking it down because most
of the time the quarterback gets the ball into the net.
Now again, the one thing that I always try to
tell everyone about training camp, about these reps is you
don't know what they're working on. So they might be

(15:14):
working killbillys that drove might have been like catch the ball,
throw as fast as you can, like are working on
on r PO type stuff or working on getting rid
of the ball quickly, and so you know that that's
why the throws might be inaccurate. You know when when
they talk about interceptions in a day no interceptions, he
had five. Maybe that that that you know that install
for the day is deep is deep throws, and they

(15:35):
just want you to throw the ball deep every time
in that way, and you thought you're a couple of interceptions.
That's why I think some of this is and actually
think that when you throw no interceptions, that's almost worse.
Like I kind of judge you. I'm like, oh, you know,
no interceptions. Are you trying to throw a ball down
the field? So, uh, that's that's we have to take

(15:56):
into consideration those those things we talked about. These cord
you can't. But again, it wasn't a great look for
Williams to not be able to hit the net in
that sequence.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
And then the reaction and then he was upset about
oh my gosh, it's like, shut up, this means nothing.
We're not gonna revert back, you know, after week five
and be like, well, remember the throwing that video. This
shouldn't be a surprise that he stops.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
You upset about it? You want to be accurate.

Speaker 2 (16:23):

Before we get to more quarterback madness over here, Jeff
Our trusted producer Lee Robert de lap the fourth. He
asked me an interesting question. We're talking music. We talked movies, music,
all this random stuff, you know, when we're off the year.
He said, you have an eight hour car ride. What

(18:37):
artist are you choosing to listen to the whole time
banned artist? What have you? And I was like, I
could go Sleigher, I could go Pantera, I could go
you know, Lamb of God. No problem. You know, I'm
I'm assuming you would not want to be in that
car ride with me, Jeff, But what would you be
going with. I know you're an ed M guy.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
I'm sorry you did said just eight hours.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Absolutely, he's a very tall woman. It's very tall, very tall. Yeah,
it's it's like skying five ft eighth.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
Ye.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
Yeah, price it doesn't start in the w n B
A at Center.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
I've forgotten that. Yeah, super tall. How can I forget that? Yeah, oh,
I would just I would just choose Tupac. Done with it.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
You'd go Tupacy.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
I have enough music for eight hours, it's not a problem.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Yeah, okay, go with Pac.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
Yeah's wrong with that? Easy answer for me?

Speaker 2 (19:33):
Yeah, solid choice.

Speaker 3 (19:34):
Who If you said you who you go with?

Speaker 7 (19:37):
I'd go Jimmy Buffett. I've actually probably done eight hours
of Jimmy Buffett with the car ride with a buddy
of mine. But I think, you know, I think a
lot of people would fall back on the Beatles, Rolling Stones,
led Zeppelin.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
Okay, do you see? But I feel like I guess
artists probably have enough for eight hours right of in
a row like like.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Oh yeah, yeah, you'd have to you'd have to go
with some duplicates for sure, Like you know.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
You don't have of God for eight hours?

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Absolutely easily easily. Yes, yeah, I have.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
To question some of your life decisions, now, Okay.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
So well he brought up the w n B a
you know, dua lipa center in the W. But uh,
this quarterback is going to have to do a lot
better than some of the players in the W. Do listen.
This is one of our pet Peeves, Jeff. Not everybody
misses layups, obviously in the w n B A, but

(20:39):
just watch games, there are a lot of missed layups.
And we bring this up because of a quarterback. If
you look at JJ McCarthy, Vikings, first year starter, right
missed his entire rookie season, will be a first year
starter this year. We saw him in preseason action against
the Houston Texans and he had a couple of nice throws,

(20:59):
a couple of nice throw to Jordan Addison, but there
was one throw in particular where a receiver was wide
open across the middle, Lucky Jackson, third and four, and
he just airmailed it. That is a layup throw, Jeff.
And that's one thing you have got to be able
to get done. If you're JJ McCarthy this season, that
should be expected. Maybe you're not, you know, up to

(21:21):
speed as if you played your entire rookie season and
now you're starting to really put it all together. I
mean he's gonna be behind the curve a little bit,
there's no doubt about that. But the layup throws, he
should be absolutely expected to make those routinely. He should
not be missing those throws.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
In this offense with O'Connell, he's gonna have the opportunity
to have a lot of layup throws. Yeah, and to
your point, like, those are the ones that are inexcusable.
He has to make those throws because that well, that
will do a couple of things. One, obviously it was
give him confidence, right, we'll give him confidence he can
make the throws. But two, like, you know, give yourself

(22:00):
a free seven eight yards. Now it's second and two, right, yeah,
Now it's now in second and four. Now it's first down.
Now that makes third down much more manageable if it's
you know, second and ten, Like, just take the six yards.
It's those are just such such important throws to overall
game plan in the sense of a game. But your point,
he can't miss those now, I thought for him back

(22:22):
to my standard, doesn't look like it should. I thought
it did for quarterback who I pushed back on this
year second year guy. Yeah, yeah, he's in the second year.
He didn't play last year though, and not only that, Brian,
he didn't practice last year because he was hurt. So
he's the second year guy like only a name only
like he did like most second year guys practiced a
little bit. The year before he didn't he didn't practice,

(22:45):
he was hurt all year, so I thought that it
was a good start for him. A lot to work on,
But you're right, just just make your layups, man, If
you make your layups, everything else will be fine. And
if you can do that, the Vikings, dude, have a
chance to be really good. It's a very good football team.
They just have to get McCarthy up to speed as

(23:05):
quick as possible, and if he can do that, they
have a chance to be near the top of the league. Again.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Yeah, I'm so interested to see how the Vikings play
and how McCarthy plays, because you're right, they've got a
stacked roster and if he's producing right away, they could
have a special year. But absolutely, he's a first year starter.
Like you said, he got a couple of you know,
he got training camp reps last year and then preseason

(23:35):
reps until he got hurt.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
You know, that's it, that's.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
It on the shelf the whole year. So that's the
gift in the curse.

Speaker 4 (23:43):
You know.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
I know you went Tupac, but we could go jay
Z with the gift of the curse right there, you go, right,
But it's he's got a great supporting cast. That helps.
But the curse of that is the expectations are high.
Like I laugh every time I read or hear someone say,
you know, we got to have patience, We got to
have some grace with JJ McCarthy here, and it's like, Okay,

(24:05):
come talk to me in week four. If he's stunk
it up for a few games in a row and
you're just giving him grace, that's not gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
Well. The reason why the timeline is so sped up
is because of last season, right, because they played so
well last season, that's right, And so because of that,
now this year his timeline is way sped up where
it would have been if they just had a decent
year last year. Because of the talent on defense, on offense,
we know kose can coach, and the suys darn had

(24:33):
last season, he's expected to perform immediately this year. So
there's a lot of pressure. I thought, you know, there's
a lot of time about his his arm strength, and
I thought that the armstrang was on good display there.
I throw the ball perfectly fine, It's to your point, though,
it needs to be accurate when those layups are available
to him, and this offense are going to be a

(24:55):
lot of them. And you know, back to WNBA, like
the best teams WWA, they make their life. That's that
don't are terrible.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
So they just routinely blowing layups.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Man, it is, I don't know why we watch a
bunch of this league. Brian is infuriated and what we
just can't enough of it?

Speaker 2 (25:15):
You know what it is? It's something about trying to
figure something out. I don't know what that. Maybe it's
a guy thing. I don't know. I'm sure women try
to figure things out too, but I don't I think it.
You know, we're maniacs sometimes and when we're like, all right,
let me try to figure out what's going to happen
in this game, and then something weird happens, you don't

(25:38):
just chalk it up to man, hey, weird stuff happens.
It's like I needed to see that coming somehow, some way.
If you are trying to figure something out. The W
is the Rubik's Cube of the sports world where it's
just it defies logic time and time again.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
It makes no sense. Yeah, it's it's not like women's
college basketball on Yeah, it's not like's college basketball. It's
not like the NBA. There's nothing. There's nothing like this ever,
Like it wouldn't be like like like Yukon for example.
It's a bad example because Yukon is good, but like
a top twenty women's college basketball, if you watch them play,

(26:16):
they won't they won't score twenty five points in one
quarter and seven.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
The next hard right, yeah yeah, But.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
In the WNBA it happens all man the time. How
do you I cannot explain when teams that are good.
I'm not talking about like you know, Connecticut, which actually
scores a decent amount of points, it's about like just
like and like, they just don't score. I I can't.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
It's strange because that's the thing with if you're talking
about from a sports betting perspective, it's you have to
do the opposite a lot of times. It's the zigzag thing.
But the teams lie to you so much every now
and then they they you know, they stay consistent, they
score a bunch every core all game long. That will happen.

(27:02):
But there are plenty of times where a team comes
out red hot and in that moment you're thinking, man,
they're probably gonna go for one hundred tonight. No, in
that moment, you're supposed to bet under twenty one and
a half points in the second quarter. They're not gonna
come anywhere close to going over that. But it's like
they're firing at all cylinders. You're like, I think they're good,

(27:23):
and it's in the second quarter begins and you're like,
they cannot put the ball in the hoop at all.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
It just it defies logic. It does. The other thing
that defies logic in the league is just the players
to the same degree will just stop getting the stat
they were getting, like for the right, right, Okay, I
bet a lot on the NBA, So you this does
not happen in the NBA where someone has a number.

(27:48):
Let's just say it's it's it's eight rebounds, right, and
they get seven the first half and don't get won
the entire second halpen It happens all the time. It does.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
It is insane.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
It does not happen in the NBA because that been
in college basketball and I can't explain it.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
I can't either. It's the weirdest thing, but it does.
It happens a lot. You're not going to see. I
don't know, just Jalen Brunson just popped into my head.
You're not going to see him go off for twenty
in the first half and then just score like four
the second eight. It won't happen.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
Well, okay, think about so last night. You know, Alysta Thomas,
who plays for the Mercury, had three straight triple doubles.
She's incredible, and her rebound prop was eight and a
half yesterday. I didn't play yesterday, but I was looking
at some numbers and I was like, okay, so eight
and a half. Now, she's one of the better players
in LA. I think she's second right now in an
MVP voting. I don't even know what her NBA equivalent

(28:42):
would be exactly, but she had seven rebounds in the
first half. Again, her prop was eight and a half.
I actually looked at halftime it was eleven and a half.
I almost bet it. I was like, I was like,
I was like, you know what, we get to so
get another another five? She had won the entire second.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Sits insane, man, It's just crazy.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
Like what's the what's it was the NBA equivalent of
a list of Thomas like Russell Westbrook, Essentially.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
Like no, she'd be because she's more of a She's
just more of like a fout forward. So yeah, I
don't know it would be a good comfort, but you would.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
But if the NBA player at seven rounds the first
half of her caliber.

Speaker 2 (29:17):
Right right, no, ended up with yeh was seventeen, well
at least over eight and a half for sure. By
the way, let me get you two NFL things. So
going back to McCarthy real fast, this is something interesting.
We mentioned it on countdown yesterday, but for the two
pros audience, I thought this was really interesting. So a
lot of people think that JJ McCarthy going up against

(29:40):
Brian Flora's defense every day in practice is a good thing,
you know, like iron sharpens iron, that sort of thing,
And largely I agree with that, Jeff. But something that
McCarthy said after the preseason game I thought was really interesting.
So we're he was talking about missing Lucky Jackson, the
wide receiver who was wide open across the middle, and

(30:01):
he said, when you go against Flow's defense, your timing
is always like one hitch and it's got to be out.
And I feel like there was a couple of occasions.
There were a couple of occasions Saturday where I could
have sat in there and trusted the pocket and made
a better decision in that time frame, the one to
Lucky across the middle. If I would have just waited

(30:23):
a click longer, I would have found him in that window.
I thought that was really interesting. Where Yeah, sometimes going
up against a top defense and a top defensive coordinator,
you would think that only makes things easier. When you
go up against a lesser defense or a lesser DC,
that's not always the case. Sometimes you're sped up to

(30:44):
a fault, and as a guy who's learning, right, like
his first year starter, he's got to make that adjustment
when he's out on the field for real against a
different defense. That was that's pretty interesting to me.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
I thought it was very interesting. So now I go
to Okay, in game two, your next persons in the game,
are you things slowed down for you? Because if it's
sped up, that's fine. I mean, that's that's Baald, that happens. Okay,
I'm admitting that, and it's great then to put that
out there that, hey, you know, not to his defense
right like my defense is makes it difficult for me

(31:18):
in practice. Okay, sure, that's great. It's supposed to be
hard in practice, right, Practice supposed to be hard, it's
not supposed to be easy. Now in game two, we
got to slow it down, right, like we can't. That's
not excuse anymore like game one. You get it good now.
Also to he's going to have practice moving forward that's

(31:42):
not as often against Brian Flores's defense. Right, They'll start
doing some scout team stuff, so he'll have a chance
to slow things down in practice just without having to
play against his defense, which will be I think obviously
very good for him. But it was interesting he said
that out loud and sort of admitted that because I
don't know if many quarterbacks would would do that. It's

(32:03):
a valid point. It makes sense what he's saying. Sure,
but now we gotta see that. To me, now you
want to I need to see the improvement in that
into game two.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Absolutely. And one other preseason thing to mention, how about
this Lions Falcons game that was suspended. I don't know
the right terminology because to me, suspended. You hear this
all the time in baseball, the game suspended, we'll pick
it back up, you know what I mean? Like or
it's it's suspended, we'll make the game up. A month
from now. This game is done like over, you know,

(32:33):
ended early. But there was a scary injury the very
beginning of the fourth quarter. Maurice Norris. He went in
for a tackle as a defensive back, he's a safety,
and his neck snapped back, you know, he collided with
the ballcarrier's leg. He was on the field for a while,
twenty minutes, and they took him off in an ambulance.
They agreed to end the game. But the weird thing, Jeff,

(32:57):
was they didn't agree right then, like the beginning of
the fourth quarter. They snapped the ball and just let
the clock run for minutes. You know, we're talking all
the way down to like six and a half minutes,
and then New York and the NFL got involved and said,
all right, the game's over with here. It was just
strange that they took that scenic route toward calling the

(33:18):
game early. It was just strange how it played out.
And luckily that he's fine. He tweeted on social media
that he's all good. So that's great news.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
Yes, So a couple of things here. I think that
the DeMar Hamlin situation has led to an increased awareness
to player injuries, right so in this situation, he went
to make a tackle, he actually didn't even hit the

(33:50):
player like crown of the helmet, Like he actually could
use good form if you were to for where he
was trying to tackle. He is headed was up like
he got hit. He got kicked in the face, essentially
kicked in the head, knocked out. I think they said
he had maybe had a seizure. I don't know. And dude,
the amount of medical personnel on that field was way

(34:13):
more than usual for concussion.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Yeah, to your point, this is like the post Hamlin
world we're in, right, Yeah, sure.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
They had the ambulance, two carts and like fifty medical
personnel for again, like not a run of milk concussion,
but like a typical usc unfortunately once a week, Right,
Like a guy gets in the head. It looks terrible,
the to it right, the fencing pose like, it just
looks it looks terrible. I'm not I'm not diminishing the

(34:41):
actual injury, but it's one. The DeMar Hamlet situation I
think has everyone high a lert, as they should be.
It's a true job. But two also, the teams practiced
these emergency situations all the time, and I bet you.
They had just done that before preseason game one, and
it was like their moment to do the thing. They

(35:03):
just practiced, and they've gone the radio, they called everyone in,
and they made it happen. I was stunned to see
the game end. Now. The reasoning was, we had joint
practices already. This is a very emotional moment. We've done
enough work against each other. We're done for the day.
My only pushback on that besides my line's wager not catching,

(35:25):
but that's obviously unimportant in this situation. Yeah, is that
you know, for me, I was a seventh round pick.
That quarter was when I would have played in a
peason games. Sure, and you're taking away that opportunity from
players who might need that time on the field, not
for the Lions or Falcons, but for the rest of
the NFL to have that film. They've taken that quarter

(35:47):
of film away from those guys. And again, it's a
dunk situation. You know. Did the guys want to play
or not? I don't know, but I was surprised to
see that situation happen.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
Yeah, and thankfully he's fine. That's what matters most. I
just thought, like the scenic route toward calling the game
early was strange. This doesn't seem like the National Football League,
you know what I mean. It didn't seem like it
would happen there where this guy gets hurt at the
beginning of the fourth quarter, like first play of the
fourth quarter, and they just run the clock all the

(36:20):
way down to six and a half. They're just standing
there for like nine minutes as the clock is sticking down,
and then they called the game early. It was just strange, like,
why wouldn't you just call it immediately if that's the case.
I don't know, it's just odd. It didn't seem like
it was, you know, incredibly buttoned up. But he's fine.
That's all that really matters. Hey, speaking of fine, Right

(36:41):
around the corner, we have the FSR IR right. Little

you know, speed through that that road trip right there.
All right, we got a bit to do. Let's do this.

Speaker 4 (37:53):
After your sports week at happens. So it's time to
get the FSR IR report.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
That is right, the IR report. You know Lee Robert
de lapped the fourth Uh, you know, any knicks, any bruises,
any scrapes, anything going on with you over the weekend.

Speaker 7 (38:13):
I do have a bruise on my belly that I
don't know where it came. From got pointed out to me.
I didn't see it, and it sounds like you got
a bruise there, buddy, And uh, yeah, sure enough it is.
So I don't know where that's from. And then another
mishap this weekend actually happens to involve Larena. We uh
we met up for some wings and drinks one night

(38:35):
and with your with your cousin, and I guess I
packed your food to go wrong.

Speaker 8 (38:40):
Yeah, So we took our chicken strips home and I
have a brand new car, right, and I have my
cousin hold the box. I'm like, make sure you hold the.

Speaker 7 (38:48):
Chicken strip so they don't fall.

Speaker 8 (38:50):
I did not know that Lee put an open container
of buffalo sauce inside of that chicken strips box. So
I So, so I get home and I noticed the
orange out the side. I'm like, what is that? And
my cousin opens it she goes, oh, my gosh.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
And I was like, oh, it doesn't look like it's
spilled out.

Speaker 8 (39:12):
And then my aunt got in the car the next
day and she goes, what is that orange stuff down
the side of your car?

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (39:21):
Yeah, the new ride, the brand new whip.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Lee.

Speaker 8 (39:26):
When it's time for my next servicing detail, I will.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
Be hitting you up.

Speaker 7 (39:31):
I I guess I deserve that.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Maybe driving then how about you, Jeff, you got any
any ailments over the weekend? Over there?

Speaker 3 (39:39):
I was retally healthy. I did have a medical procedure
last week in where I did not fit in the
table and as we were adjusting the table, I fell.
The table fell, it was it was into a chair.
It was from table to chair and as we were
moving from table to chair, I got ejected backwards, like

(40:00):
the chair went backwards. I fell backwards off the chair
behind And so the procedure, I'm fine, it was nothing.
And actually I hurt more, like my back hurts more
from falling on my back and my shoulder than the
actual thing that had done to me. So how nursing
from the weekend. Yeah, if I wasn't, if I was
a meaner person that the medical they would owe me

(40:23):
some money. But I'm not, And it wasn't their fault.
It is what it is. But yeah, that was my
that happened on Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (40:31):
Could you see the panic in their eyes, like this
could be a lot of money we're on the hook for.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Yeah, they were not. They were not. Yeah, there was
some but I'm not the type of person and I
don't need their money. I just get it. Get get
a chair better suited for people like me, That's all
I ask. Now.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
Wow, yeah, man, I had got nothing that compares to
you guys. I got no buffalo sauce. No. I do
have a mental pain, which would go back to our
show yesterday, Jeff. At the end of the show Countdown
on FSR, I gave out Marlin's braves over eight and
a half runs, and the starting pitchers not great, and

(41:12):
the first female to umpire an MLB game behind the plate.
I thought she was gonna have a tight strike zone.
The opposite occurred, did not work out, and it didn't
work out. So mental pain for me is basically what happened,
all right? Coming up next, a popular opinion looks terrible.
