buying should be so. We have been monitoring and tracking
the free agent frenzy in the NFL. A lot of
(01:08):
deals getting done. Somebody who didn't really want a deal done,
They wanted to be sent elsewhere because they weren't happy
with the situation and wanted to play for a contender.
Was Miles Garrett. We touched on this a little bit earlier.
He reportedly wanted to have a meeting with Jimmy Haslam.
Jimmy HASLM declined that meeting that came out on Friday,
(01:28):
and the thought was, gosh, how could you LeVar and
I kind of you know, ate Jimmy has them alive
and just said, you know, I mean, at least, you know,
have a conversation with the guy. You don't know what
can happen, And all of a sudden two days later,
he gets a monster contract done with the Cleveland Browns
all as well as long as you shall out a
little bit of cash and the deal and the details
(01:51):
for Miles Garrett four years, one hundred and sixty million dollars,
one hundred and twenty three million dollars guaranteed.
Speaker 6 (01:58):
So do y'all feel like.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
That report put unnecessary pressure on Haslm? Like there had
been something behind the scenes more going on for them
to end up going from we're not talking to one
hundred and fifty million, like it doesn't work that way, right.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
No, it did.
Speaker 7 (02:18):
I mean, think about it, They're already in cap hell
because of the Deshaun Watson trade, and that was all Jimmy
Haslm's doing.
Speaker 6 (02:27):
You know.
Speaker 7 (02:27):
Meanwhile, you're watching Baker Mayfield have success with the Tampa
Bay Bucks and thinking to yourself, we could have just
kept that guy, and by the way, for a lot less,
a lot less.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
So that was on Jimmy Haslm.
Speaker 7 (02:42):
It's one of the worst I would say, like storylines
that's trying to get swept under the rug because people
want to try to draw attention away from it. But
it's been an absolute disaster for the franchise. So now
you have a guy who has been nothing but the
epitome of everything you had hoped for as the number
(03:03):
one overall pick to your franchise, and you've pushed him
so far that he's even making statements like I don't
feel like this organization's committed to winning and all stuff. Right,
So to your point, like I do think it brought
Jimmy Haslum back to the forefront. The fact that Miles
Garrett tried to meet with him and it was reported
that you know, it has them did one two, which
(03:24):
I guess it doesn't matter at that point because what
he was frustrated he had to offer him a four year,
one hundred and sixty million dollar contract. And so now
everyone looks at Jimmy haslm as saying, well, you know,
he may not try to build a franchise to go
win a Super Bowl, but he'll pay these guys really well,
Like that's the one thing you know about old, good,
old Jimmy. I mean, maybe that's more the reputation he
(03:44):
feels like he's building or the frustration behind it. It's
hard to understand exactly. I mean, you can understand why
Miles gear got the contract. He's still in that window
of time where he's one of the best, if not
the best, defensive player in the NFL. He is a
cornerstone of your defense. He's one of the most important
pieces of your team. So signing him to this contract
(04:05):
is not surprising, given how the salary cap has continued
to go up, given that Jimmy Haslam has deep pockets,
and if Miles Garrett's not there, to me, there would
be a mass exodus of guys saying I don't think
I want to be here either. Then if our best player,
one of our leaders is going to be here either,
So there's a lot of pressure on Jimmy HASLM to
(04:28):
do something and ultimately ended up being what you know,
owners with deep pockets do they just shell out more money,
you know, make Miles gear happy. I think the more
interesting part of this is was this just all about
money for Miles Garrett? Because if it was like why
are you dragging the teams with the mud like that?
Then you know, why do you make the comments initially
talking about the organization not wanting to being successful? Like yeah,
(04:52):
we get that. Like trust me, I grew up a
Brownspan Like I understand that I was drafted there. I
get it, granted different ownership, but I we can talk
about all the different things that you know, the Cleveland
Browns organization isn't compared to every other organization that I
was able to play for. But the real question comes
down to with Miles Garrett, it was just it was
just about money?
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Is that all it was? With the way this whole
thing worked out.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
That's what it kind of comes across as do big
deals like that come together or do they come together
in two days? That's I just feel like there had
to been something more going on behind the scenes versus
what was reported. You know, I just I just feel
like you can't how do you get to there from
what was being reported.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
One of the I guess the portions of the story
that came out was that Haslam told Miles Garrett, you've
got to talk to Andrew Berry, like, don't don't talk
to me, talk to Andrew Berry. And that leads me
to believe that maybe this was about getting the contract
done and they were already having conversations and already having discussions.
(05:58):
And if you're the by the way, if you're a brand,
that's why when the story came out that he wanted
to be traded and Stefanski and Andrew Berry spoke about
it at the combine and said, no, we've planned him
being here, Like, I don't know how with the how
the Deshaun Watson stuff is gone. How if you're a
Browns fan, you would have felt about the organization if oh,
and by the way, we traded away Miles.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
But that might have been the conversations that were taking
place all along, because Stefanski didn't flinch when he said it.
He said, we plan on keeping him, which means that
there's the possibility that those conversations were taking place all along.
I mean, to me, if first, let me say this,
if I'm Miles Garrett and I'm in Cleveland, yes, it's
(06:42):
all about the money.
Speaker 6 (06:43):
It's all about at this point, it's to me. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
DK Metcalf said the same thing about Pittsburgh if I'm
Miles Garrett that. If I'm Miles Garrett, I'm all about
the money in Cleveland. Well, i mean, how many times
have they won the Super Bowl?
Speaker 5 (06:58):
Oh geez?
Speaker 2 (06:59):
What all I heard was the same thing for DK Metcalf.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
Okay, but how many a while? How many super Bowls
have been while? It has been a while, but at least.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Super Bowl at least at least a while, at least
the coach in Pittsburgh is the recipient of one of
them Lombardi trophies. Sin, you've been trying to push it off. Gain,
I'm not trying to push it. Yeah, tripped out man?
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Yeah good, since we had some production at quarter back,
Why are you.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Trying to see a while? Tried that already. It didn't
work out for n That's why he ended up doing radio.
Come on, that's me. I'm just saying it was spirited.
Speaker 6 (07:43):
Yeah, lying.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
All I'm saying is how do you go from no
conversation to one fifty?
Speaker 7 (07:52):
All I know is Jimmy Hazle's you got money. Like
That's the other thing I'll take away from this. He
gets one hundred and twenty three point five million guarante
of the one hundred and forty. And you know, given
the escro rules, these owners, when you put up guaranteed moneies,
that money goes out your bank account and in escrow
man goes bye bye. And you already you already had
(08:15):
a two hundred and thirty million, fully guaranteed deal with
Deshaun Watson. That's what I'm saying, Like some of these owners,
there's there's different levels to this.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
There would have been a lot more going bye bye
had they not signed Miles Garrett.
Speaker 7 (08:29):
Well, think about this, like, let's just compare a contrast.
And I'm not look, I know people in Ohio and
now I'm a Browns fan of the Bengals and all that.
I can't help but make this comparison your organization. Right now,
if you're a Cincinnati Bengals fan is working on a
long term deal with Jamar Chase, Okay, you had to
franchise Tag t Higgins. You have to let Trey Hendrickson go,
(08:53):
which is stupid, it's crazy. And we talked about this,
like if you go back over that span of period
of time, I think, what is it, the six years
whatever it's been, the Bengals have signed with like one
player outside of Joe Burrow, over like forty million dollars
per year, like the Eagles have signed eight or something
like that. Yeah, there was some ridiculous stat we saw.
(09:14):
So every single time you hear a team say, hey,
we all have the money to do it, yes you do,
you do, Like both Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow signed
their extensions in twenty twenty three and again since then,
the Eagles have signed eight players over contracts of forty
million dollars. The Bengals have signed one one player. It's
(09:36):
it's just like this is an example of to me,
there are some issues. There's some problems going on. All right,
We've got to owner with deep pockets, which is gonna
give them that the highest average annual value for a
nine quarterback in the league. Okay, cool, I'll take that.
That'll make me feel better about things.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
I mean, Jimmy Hasla, I'm doing that with Deshaun Watson
is wow, though you make that move on on a guy.
I mean, I know he was at the height of
I guess of what you could say would lend to you.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
You just can't say that.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
But he wasn't.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
He wasn't.
Speaker 6 (10:11):
I agree, you know, I was trying. I was trying.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
No, God, I was trying, like, I don't understand why
they went on that. I can't understand why they I mean,
it's going to be forever. I don't think dang, I
don't think it's going to change them. If I'm Miles Garrett,
you got to pay me if I'm staying in Cleveland,
because I just know we're strapped having Deshaun Watson, and
(10:39):
I'm going to continue to play here. I'm going to
finish out here at least make it so that I
can put some of this money back into my community
and say, look at what what Miles Garrett is doing
for the community.
Speaker 7 (10:50):
There was a report that Garrel's at a CALVS game
or something and got booed when they put him up.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
There was not a very warm welcome, and there was
a thought that maybe.
Speaker 7 (10:59):
That happened to uh persuade him to to sign back.
I was like, yo, yeah, I'm sure that persuaded him
more than the forty million dollars per year.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
Look, I do commend him for trying to sell people
on the super Bowls the most important thing for about
you know, two three weeks.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
The super Bowl has to be the most important thing
to your organization.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
For two three weeks. That was like priority A. I'm
not going to hold him. I'm not going to hold him.
He went to New Orleans. He was like, let's play stakes.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
What's to go play super Bowl here? Anyway?
Speaker 5 (11:29):
Come on, I kind of like having my winters off.
I'm just saying, think about it. You work less, you
get paid more.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
It's great you do.
Speaker 7 (11:39):
I think what what may have happened was they probably
looked around the NFL and they're like, all right, New
England's got a bunch of money. Las Vegas guy has
a bunch of money, and there probably wasn't another team.
And this typically happens an agent pokes kind of around.
(12:00):
He was talking about different clients, so he might, you know,
sit there and say, hey, you know, I've got Miles
Garrett too. What if Miles Garrett was up to be
traded for and we're looking at an extension, like what
would those numbers look like. They probably poked around enough
to know that Cleveland was the team that could pay
him the type of deal that would satisfy him toesday.
And by the way, if you compare it to the
(12:21):
Max Crosbie deal, which I think he got what over
thirty million or whatever per year, it blows it out
of the water. So I'm not saying the Max Crosby
will kind of reset the market for edge rushers in
any way, but like this is this is a new
high and it's historic in nature for the moment. So
(12:42):
I'm sure there was a thought over that two week
period after he talked about it being about the Super Bowl,
where there's also a business side to this, And as
they went and searched around with talking to different teams,
they realized that Cleveland ultimately had the deepest pockets in
the ability to pay Miles Garrett and keep Miles Garrett
as opposed to any other that was gonna be willing
to trade for him, you know, given what they'd have
(13:02):
to give up and trade compensation. Two We talked about
that like that was probably two ones and something right
at least two first round picks for a guy who's
still in his prime, still playing at a really high level.
That was I mean, it was probably gonna take two
first in a two or so, I mean some ridiculous
amount of compensation and they're most likely was a point
(13:23):
where Miles Garrett and his agent had a tough conversation
and he's like, hey, man, I know you don't really
like it here, but they're gonna make you an offer
that's gonna be hard to refuse to make you happy,
and so can you make this work? Because the grass
isn't always greener? And the other teams were talking about
the New England Patriots. Yes, they had success back when
Tom Brady was there. That Las Vegas Raiders, huh, I
(13:44):
mean neither of those teams are.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Built to win right now. They might have a lot
of cap space.
Speaker 7 (13:49):
But that doesn't mean you're gonna go there and be
excited about chasing a Super Bowl. So here are the
teams that are chasing a super and here's why they
can't sign you to this record setting deal, Like you
can't have both, So pick one and this is ultimately
probably where he ended up.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
It's it's good for Mica though, right I mean, I'm
curious as to how that how this will play out,
because that's high.
Speaker 6 (14:11):
They went high with Miles Garrett.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Now I ain't going to just I don't know that
the Jones is just going to be like, yep, we
gotta beat that. I don't know that that happens. I
don't know, but I will say this for Miles Garrett,
if you get that type of offer, you take it
like you don't take any of those other, you know,
variables into considerable.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
For that much money I play, I play in Baghdad,
not one. Dang, oh god, see ya dang. All right, Okay,
I'm just saying about nice Crosby. Thirty five point five
million per year is what the average comes out to. Uh.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
He surpassed Nick Bosa, who signed his.
Speaker 7 (14:51):
Deal back in twenty twenty three, So forty million annually
kind of blows that out of the water, which again
you kind of expect. There's no disrespect to Max Rosby.
Garrett's so far had a better career thus far. It's
fair to say, I think even though Crosby has been fantastic,
this is an example of like Miles Garrett's been that dude,
(15:11):
He's been that guy.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Right, I mean, outside maybe t J.
Speaker 7 (15:14):
Watson, only one you could say has challenged him in
regards to defensive awards and accolades and production.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Is that fair?
Speaker 7 (15:20):
I mean Hendrick's Hendrickson's been awesome in the past two years,
but not like the entire body of work like Garrett
and TJ.
Speaker 6 (15:27):
Watt.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Is that is that fair to say?
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Yeah, that's fair. I put Michael Parsons in that conversation
though I do product well, we know, we know you do.
It is a place, but his production speaks for itself though.
I mean he's he's had a historical production. I mean
he has so, I mean he's what in the He's
in the conversation with guys like Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White.
(15:52):
For what he's done since he's come into the league,
I think he's done more than proven that he is
that guy. He's a franchise guy for team, and to me,
I think the value the value is there. But I
just I am curious. I saw the Max Crosby I
was like, yep, that's easy, Like there you go, Micah,
(16:15):
and that's easy. That better beys the Cowboys are like,
damn it better be easy for the coal. Yeah, well,
if they were saying damn, then then they better be
saying damn now, because what are you going to do?
Speaker 6 (16:31):
You already know that that his.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Representation is going to say, Okay, here is here is
your bottom, here's our floor, here's our ceiling, here's our floor,
here's our ceiling.
Speaker 6 (16:40):
What we're doing like?
Speaker 1 (16:41):
And you better be closer to the ceiling when we
start off than we are to the floor, which I
don't you know at this point, Micah has you know
he did take an injury this this past season. You
don't never want to start getting injuries and then get
further away from what your accomplishments were. I think it's
been AFFI for him to get a deal done before
(17:02):
this season.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
He's been one percent before that though. I don't think
he's missed a game before this year.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Yeah, no, no, listen, all I'm saying is that, and
there was a freak accident, you know, hurting his ankle
the way that he did, but it kept him out
for a little bit. And I mean it would be
to me a sobering moment to say, I want to
get my money because I want to go out there
and I want to play the way that I've been playing,
(17:26):
but sometimes you're forced to make business decisions when you
ain't got that contract yet. Man and plays that he
might have made, maybe he doesn't make that play.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
You think they get his deal done this offseason.
Speaker 6 (17:37):
I think that it is Dallas.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
I just think that it'll it'll probably draw into to camp.
I think they'll get it done. But I think they'll
get it done in camp because they like people to
talk about it's Dallas.
Speaker 6 (17:49):
Though.
Speaker 7 (17:49):
Man look at it like drag this thing out, that
franchise tag him like another year.
Speaker 6 (17:54):
I don't think they're going to take him out another year.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
I hope not.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
I don't think they're going to take him to another year.
I think I'll get a deal done then.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
By the way, we do have an update, levarn Your
Pittsburgh Stellers still stillers. According to Adam Schefter, the Steelers
continue talking to Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, but Aaron
Rodgers has emerged as a quarterback option in Pittsburgh. For
league sources, Rogers and the Steelers are expected to talk
(18:22):
and explore a union. The idea of Rogers playing for
Mike Tomlin is in play.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
He does love Mike Tomlin, that is that is not
a secret?
Speaker 7 (18:32):
Could go back to the Miles Garrett situation, by the way,
because it reminded me of like any relationship that probably
a lot of our listeners have been in where things
haven't gone well and you just kind of come back.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
With a really nice gift.
Speaker 6 (18:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (18:46):
Like, have you guys ever been in that situation where
you feel like you've kind of messed up and you
had to come back and be like, all right, here's
what we're doing, because that's that's that's in essence what
it was, right, You kind of bought his love back,
affection back?
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Is that fair?
Speaker 6 (19:02):
Yeah? It could be bad at that number.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Levard did you it was like something in a box?
Is that what you provided? What were you doing?
Speaker 3 (19:10):
No?
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Man, No, I don't think I've ever been faced with
that scenario before. I've heard about it, though, I've heard
about coming back and making things.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Has Lee has to have some sort of story?
Speaker 6 (19:21):
Yeah, I don't know what what would Lee be able
to do? I mean, what what would you do? Lee?
Beat box? Look, he ain't got nothing to say, No,
nothing to say.
Speaker 7 (19:35):
Yeah, he's upset with me after you know the or
there a comment?
Speaker 6 (19:41):
Never no gift, boy.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
I'm not a big gift guy.
Speaker 6 (19:51):
Those guys you're you're a d boy. Huh your d boy? Lee?
You know it?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (20:02):
Well, you know everybody needs one.
Speaker 6 (20:08):
Chris. Chris Carter told him that get to have.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
A is Ray Ray here today?
Speaker 7 (20:16):
That probably is the best person we actually should be
asking right now, is what has someone given you to
make up for their past transgressions where you're like, wow,
that was really nice and you don't have to share
all of it, but maybe some of it A.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Nice thank you or like a nice apology would suffice
you know, Oh, really like a genuine apology. Lee.
Speaker 7 (20:35):
Now I feel like she's talking to you directly. This
has gotten weird looking at him.
Speaker 8 (20:42):
God, I guess I'm just not a genuine guy because
nobody except accepts my apology.
Speaker 7 (20:48):
While you were drunk, Why would you ever trust me?
I lie all the time? You said that to my face.
I was like, damn, that's right.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
This is the most truthful we has been. And he's
drunk at a bar and he's he's actually telling me
the truth.
Speaker 6 (21:00):
Like, dang, you did say that.
Speaker 8 (21:02):
Well, then you know, get me drunk at a bar
and I'll give you a genuine apology.
Speaker 5 (21:06):
Ah.
Speaker 6 (21:08):
There you go, I'd got Lee faded though he cain't
messing with me.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
Oh, I know, yeah, I saw him for lunch that day.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
He had just blown chunks.
Speaker 5 (21:18):
Geez, eleven eleven in the morning.
Speaker 7 (21:20):
At least you would have thought LeVar stuffed Lee in
a locker with the way he reacted to that.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
He was so scared to see LeVar again. Dang, were
you scared?
Speaker 6 (21:29):
Lee? Never? Okay, pull me back in there coaching.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
We did.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
We did sit down after we did it in Vegas,
and we did it in New Orleans.
Speaker 6 (21:38):
I shut him down. Now.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
I don't usually do that, you know, I'm a good dude.
I don't really touch the bottle like that. But sometimes you,
as you mentioned, you gotta lick the lid on him sometime,
you know what I mean, show him, show him who
was bad.
Speaker 8 (21:52):
But you know, sometimes you gotta go out and uh
party like I party with.
Speaker 5 (21:55):
Some beat boxes from seven to eleven.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
Told you I got that Viking blood in me. Brouh.
I told you that it's beat box You mean D box, Yeah,
d d in the box? Yeah? Okay.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
Coming up next here for the tire rack dot Com Studio.

the NFL. Just went down a short time ago.
Speaker 6 (23:16):
Nice.
Speaker 4 (23:17):
The Patriots are trading Devon Godshow to the Saints in
exchange for a seventh round draft pick.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
Now, I don't know if that's too good about yourself.
I mean, the seventh round.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
Well, he's going back to uh Nola at least, dang,
So that's all you was worth? Is the seventh rounder.
Would you have been insulted if you were traded for
a seven?
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Trade me for what? Dang cold blooded? Y'all only view
me as a seventh rounder?
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Couldn't you just least both? Couldn't you have just at
least reported a fourth day.
Speaker 6 (23:58):
Day? How many rounds are there? Seven?
Speaker 4 (24:03):
By the way, uh Brayden, should I dust off the
bottom ten of the of my NFL mock draft this
year and running by Pete Prisco?
Speaker 6 (24:14):
What do you think about that?
Speaker 7 (24:15):
If I do the I think it's a fair plan.
Kind of weird to interject that. I was just watching
the video that LeVar Senator our group chat, you visiting
the bathroom, which my guess is most likely it was,
oh you visited, Okay.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
That's why I had you set him up? I set
him up. It was the track was set up.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
I want.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
I really wanted to see if Lee was going to react,
because you know, he probably wouldn't because he's like immune.
But but it ended up being Jonas, and I knew
there was going to be a reaction there to make
sure he didn't hear.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
Me, but Lee said a stuff he knows.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
For a while, you promised you didn't see me creeping
on you like I was literally cracking. Yeah, so that
was a real response, Like that was a real reaction.
Speaker 6 (25:02):
Yeah, went in.
Speaker 5 (25:03):
There because I would have did the same thing. It
had been it had been like twenty five minutes.
Speaker 6 (25:08):
I assumed that it might have dissipated. No, it was
still strong, heavy with the force. Bamn. All right, there
you go.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
Yeah, Lee's been dealing with this clogged up nomgal. I
just went in there right after you too, did you really?
Speaker 6 (25:22):
Yeah? How'd you feel about it?
Speaker 5 (25:23):
It wasn't too bad?
Speaker 6 (25:25):
Let's see. That's how you know.
Speaker 8 (25:27):
Lee?
Speaker 1 (25:27):
You got problems, man, you got problems. Brouh If you
said that ain't too bad. I gave you my best.
That was my best.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
That's all I got.
Speaker 6 (25:38):
That was weak to Lee. Hey, I knew it. That's
all I got. The video is hilarious though.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
All Right, So the uh the Josh Allen contract that
was announced yesterday coming off his MVP season. Uh so
it's a six year, three hundred and thirty million dollar contract.
I'm seeing like some of these record numbers two hundred
and twenty and new money two hundred and fifty million,
(26:08):
Like I can't keep track of this stuff. Albert Breer
basically summed it up as said, you know, it's basically
an adjustment to his current deal. He's going to get
two extra years, but it puts him near the top
of the quarterback class like he should have been because
he signed that deal way back when you know, the
price tag was much lower. So with that being said,
the Bills get this done. Now, who's the next big
(26:30):
quarterback payday to drop in the NFL? Who's going to
be the it gets as big?
Speaker 7 (26:35):
The reality of this deal is, at least based on
the new money average, it sets him on the same
tier as Joe Burrow and some of the others who
have re upped.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
So this didn't reset the market.
Speaker 7 (26:48):
It's not that Dak gets paid sixty million average per year,
which is the watermark now of what you're trying to surpass.
The question is going to become for some of these guys,
like a Josh Allen. You know, could he have or
should he been paid more than that? Of course, I
think we'd degree you take Josh Allen over Dak Prescott
any day. The difference is Josh Allen's probably looking at saying,
(27:09):
if I do leave a little extra money on the table,
I trust this organization to make moves, make decisions that
are going to help me get closer winning a Super Bowl.
And that's where he's at at this point. So that's
the tough thing. I think for a lot of these teams.
Is very similar to Tom Brady during the course of his career,
who never truly maximized his market value with New England.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
You know, Patrick Mahomes is that guy right now, and every.
Speaker 7 (27:34):
Single year you could make the case that he's worth
more than sixty per year, probably more than seventy. He
might be worth eighty million per year, and however that
number continues to go up under the salary cap. It
might sound ridiculous for people to sit there and say, like,
how can one player be worth that much? I mean,
all he knows is an AFC Championship Game appearance every
single year he started and been a part of the
(27:55):
Kansas City Chiefs. Have we ever seen that in NFL history?
Speaker 2 (27:59):
No? And this is after Tyreek Hill.
Speaker 7 (28:02):
This is after he's lost you know, various players around
him or had to deal with, you know, a lackluster
offensive line, no running game.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
So these you know, it's it's a big deal. It's
great for Josh Allen.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
But I think it's more important too that the Bills
signed him to this deal to then allow him to
be that person they can come to and say, we
need to create more cap space. We're gonna convert x
amount of your base salary into another bonus and spread
it out, and and.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
And so it's a commitment from the Bills.
Speaker 7 (28:30):
I think it's a commitment from Josh Allen too, wanting
to be there, wanting to stay there, which that was
never in question. But you know, now he's being compensated too,
like one of the top guys in the league, which
I think we've always viewed him that way for the
most part, at least since his third year in the league.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
Moving forward, so they have Josh Allen getting more guarantee
money than than kid in uh Watson Watson. He's got
the highest guarantee money contract by a quarterback, just not
the highest contract, correct.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
I mean, you gotta ask you got I'm curious.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
I'm curious as to what two names that come to
mind to me, Rock Party. It's a it's a curious
name because what direction is this going to go in?
Speaker 6 (29:21):
He already lost me.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
I thought you're gonna say, Robert Craft and Justin Tucker.
Speaker 6 (29:25):
But uh, and then.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Because I just said Deshaun Watson and guarantee you money,
I'm sorry that I took you down that lane before
I made this response, and then I would say the
next one would be Uh, Sam Donald, I'm curious as
to what he can leverage, you know, getting traded.
Speaker 6 (29:46):
I think his.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Am I wrong for thinking that his value may be slipping.
I'll call my shot right now. I don't think Sam
Donald's gonna get what Josh Allen got. I'm not maybe
not even Oh huh, well.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
But what about that's what's a bull called?
Speaker 6 (30:04):
What about the job man? What about party?
Speaker 5 (30:06):
You run with that on Twitterly.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
Is party? The next one? Is that the next name?
And are you surprised and shocked if he's up there
in that number range?
Speaker 2 (30:18):
I would be surprised and shocked. Now.
Speaker 7 (30:20):
The other hard thing about the forty nine ers is
you know you're hearing them potentially frustrated with some of
the money they shelled out, and it has has an
equated with success. So I'm curious to think how that's
going to play a factor into the brock Purty deal.
Whereas you know this organization has I think proded itself
on finding value in players who have something to prove,
(30:42):
or guys they draft and develop, and then putting incentives
throughout their contracts so they can make some of those
you know, those high high marks within their contract. But
they're doing it based on incentives and their production in
the field. But there's been some reports about the forty
nine ers being frustrated that they've been paying out a lot,
a lot of money these contracts and they're not seeing
(31:05):
a whole lot you know, from that. That would be
my concern for the brock Purty negotiation. And I've said
this all along. If you let brock party, let's say
you put them on the trade block. Let's say you
let him go into free agency. How much is he
really gonna net out there? You know, is he gonna
get more than Sam Darnold. Problem, is he gonna get
(31:25):
more than Josh Allen. He shouldn't. So that's the hard
part is when when you've got a player who's under contract,
you're obviously only it's only two parties negotiating, but if
you and it's also and this is also why I
go back and say, if I'm a general manager in
the NFL, I would always be open to the idea
(31:46):
of anyone could get traded, anyone could get signed, because otherwise,
how do you know their market value? How do you
really know or have any idea what someone's willing to
pay brock party if I don't constant plate potentially like
what it would look like in assigning trade scenario nobody.
So you hate going through the hypotheticals, but that's something
(32:08):
that you've got to do as a general manager because
it helps you get a more clearer picture of what
your competition looks like out there.
Speaker 6 (32:15):
Risky business one hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Yeah, and it could be a risky business.
Speaker 7 (32:20):
But at the end of the day, like you've got
to figure out some way of getting an idea of
what he's worth, otherwise overpaying.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
If you don't want to pay them, I mean, or
if you're worried about if you're going to overpay them.
Speaker 6 (32:30):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Sometimes I would assume that you look at it and
you say, I'm just going to pay this guy, and
I'm gonna take my chances with what I'm paying them,
because I don't want it to turn into a thing. Now,
I don't know that that's I would say that's good business.
If you're my type of employee where I say I
see your value undoubtedly whatever, But in most cases, I
(32:53):
mean I don't see there being a problem and seeing
how the market feels. Like I said, Lamar Jackson was
was given what a non exclusive franchise tag, they were
able to say he's worth two first round picks. I
would have did it if I were if I were
a franchise, if I had the capital to do it,
I would have did it.
Speaker 6 (33:15):
But nobody did it. Nobody jumped on it.
Speaker 4 (33:18):
Well because I think teams expected that whatever their offer
would have been, Baltimore would have matched it.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
But nobody tried. Like the bottom line is is they
gave him the opportunity to see if the market would
respond to two first round draft picks to get him.
Nobody jumped on it.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
By the way, I'll say this about Lamar, he actually
got better after he got paid.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
I imagine that.
Speaker 7 (33:41):
Yeah, I'm gonna go through a list of quarterbacks, and
you guys tell me when to stop where you feel
like brought pretty.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
And this guy are kind of equal.
Speaker 7 (33:49):
Okay, obviously you've got your Joe Burrows Jordan Love's. As
far as average annual value, man, there's some guys that
you might go. You might say, stop all sort off
the top Dak Prescott sixty million per year.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Then you've got a list of Joe Burrow, Jordan Love.
Speaker 7 (34:06):
Trevor Lawrence, and Josh Allen. Would you take any of
those guys. We're brock pretty over any of those guys.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
See you know, y'all know I'm I'm I'm I'm not
high on Trevor Lawrence right now. I might I might
debate with myself over Trevor Lawrence and Brock party. And
I know I shouldn't. I know I shouldn't, but I
just might. I mean, he's had more success than than
Trevor Lawrence is at.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Can we pick the team has?
Speaker 6 (34:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (34:32):
Can we pick this conversation?
Speaker 4 (34:33):
Because we're getting way, but it's it is interesting because, Yeah,
I'm kind of with you on the Trevor Lawrence thing.
Speaker 6 (34:41):
I might have to debate that.
Speaker 7 (34:43):
I think if you saw them both in person, throw
it'd be a very easy decision for you.
Speaker 6 (34:47):
I don't know, man, I just the results. He hasn't
just he hasn't been as good as I I mean,
as I hope that he was going to be.
Speaker 5 (34:57):
Definitely not the tractor Supply of quarterbacks, that's for sure.

Speaker 5 (36:48):
I mean, that's that's true. But I mean we are
right now.
Speaker 6 (36:51):
Yes, So, mister Stix's had an IR situation. Now, I
didn't realize. I knew we got hit in the face.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
I didn't know to what extent until I was doing
the show on Saturday and went downstairs and I went
into the the restroom for a moment, and there literally
were three ginormous piles of you know, him throwing up.
Oh really, yeah, it was kind of kind of kind
(37:24):
of sad. I felt bad for him because I thought
he was okay. You know, we went through the whole
process of me washing him and stuff like that.
Speaker 6 (37:31):
But I had him.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Downstairs because we had roofers there or something like that,
and apparently like it had I could smell it on
his mouth, so I knew it was. I knew it
hit him in the face. And then I went out
back and I smelled like the areas that he had
like when he was hitting us. He hit the wall,
so it's still like skunk on like the wall and
(37:53):
over over, like on the other side of our gate.
It was bad. It was a bad, bad, bad smell.
He hit us bad, and he was like. It definitely
had him sick that many days later.
Speaker 6 (38:04):
It had him sick.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Well, I don't know when it when it. I recall
putting him down there the day the morning after the
morning after because he was wet, washed him up, so
I took him all the way down into the basement.
But there was like three I don't I don't know
how he even had the time to go do it,
but he went to the restaurant. He threw up three
times in the rest and they were big ones too,
(38:25):
so he's on the IR. I mean he's on the
men's now, he's his breath still stinks a little bit,
but he's on the men's But yeah, that's that's.
Speaker 6 (38:33):
My eye feeling better. Though, it looks like he's feeling better.
He looks more, he looks happier, you know. So there
you go, nasty piles though. By the way, happy anniversary
too great, Yeah, yeah, happy anniversary.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
Que Hey, fats down too. I mean you got in eleven? Nice,
very nice number. Yep, very good number, strong number yep.
Speaker 6 (38:57):
The city baby good? All right? What I mean? Oh, broh,
I don't even like talking about it. You know, I'm
just to that great outer beyond, you know, like I
just already walked took my slow walk into the ocean already.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
I'm twenty years in. Broh, I'm somewhere on the ocean
floor walking right now.
Speaker 3 (39:19):
S
