Speaker 3 (01:30):

Speaker 4 (01:31):
I don't want to say what I was going to

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Well you mentioned it earlier.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
It's big news.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
It's big news. Kevin Stefanski to the Cleveland Ago, Take
it away. Who's going to be your starter this weekend?
Come on, cav.

Speaker 4 (02:08):
He don't want to tell you.

Speaker 5 (02:09):
Yeah, he's going to Uh, hey.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
I don't want to tell you.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
We are we are efforting couch. Are you sure we're connecting?

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Has he come to the podium.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yet we're connecting. We're connecting here. He is coach. He
is so nervous about the announcement.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
Sure Door will.

Speaker 6 (02:26):
Start this week. Number one job of quarterback is to win.
So excited to get that first win under his belt.
And then next thing is improvement. And that's what young
players do, certainly young quarterbacks. Do you get one game
better and that's just from working at it. So that'll
be our focus.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Check your risk, play, check your risk.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
What didn't they say. Didn't they say Buddy Dylan would
be the starter when he got cleared and came back.
Just what the best timing for Dylan? I'm in for
Scha Door. It's it's time.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
It's never even against the Raiders. When ain't got that
new Ohio state.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
You get a touchdown pass on a stream.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Hell yeah, y'all say what y'all want? Let him get
this when let him get this dubbed this week when
they put him back in. Yeah, that perfect timing. The
sdor Sanders there, baby Stefanski going save its job? Who Stepanski? Shador? Baby?

(03:32):
Let's go Miles Garrett, you gotta you gotta defense. Did
you see Miles Garrett's face drop to the floor, which.

Speaker 5 (03:39):
Reaction bought a reaction off that ploor.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
I believe I'm a believer perfect Timon.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Are you guys surprised I really do this?

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Bitch? Are you?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Are you surprised that, uh, that Shador stay as a starter?

Speaker 2 (03:58):
I'm not At this point, what do you have to lose?

Speaker 7 (04:01):
Yeah, you've seen enough of Dylan Gabriel to have an idea.
You want to see more from Shador, and you know
suit he looks like. And it's one way or another,
either to prove him right or to prove him wrong
with all the crap he's been saying. But either way,
like this is to me more about finding out what
you have in your roster as you're a team that's
looking for to twenty twenty six.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Yeah, I feel like it's self preservation time. When you're
a team like the Cleveland Browns, everybody has to go
into self preservation mode. It just is what it is.
I mean, that's what all the bad teams do. And
there's no exception here for anyone that's involved in this scenario,

(04:45):
and self preservation says you have to play Shador Sanders
in this scenario for the simple fact that if he
does continue to find a way to win, then the
self preservation again for the coaching staff, becomes more legitimized.
I think I think Kevin Stefanski's job hangs in the

(05:08):
balance of if the timing is perfect for shardor Sanders
to be playing as the starting quarterback for this team.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
You think Kevin Stefanski's using to save his job.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Using is a strong way that wouldn't be the right way.
That's how you put positioning it, not using. I look
at it as Shador Sanders' success could legitimize him him
maintaining his job, not using him. I mean, I guess
if you're gonna say he's playing him, but I don't

(05:40):
think he He didn't put him in and bench Dylan.
Gabriel to me using him as you benched Dylan. You
put Shador in because you're trying to save your job.
Shador went in because of an injury, and Shador didn't
win that game, but came back and played out of
necessity and won the game that he played the necessity

(06:01):
due to injury. Now that the injury is cleared and
he's continuing on with Shador, that says to me, that's
a signal that it's self preservation. If you can get
on a winning streak down this stretch, you could save
your job. If you believe that Shador Sanders is the
way to get to that, that preservation of your job.

(06:21):
That's why you're playing Shador Sanders. Otherwise you would be
playing Dylan Gabriel if you feel If you felt Dylan
Gabriel's that player to preserve your job, Dylan Gabriel would
have been named back as the starter now that he
was clear from concussion protocol. Self preservation. So if you
want to call it using Shador, I don't. I don't
see it as using Shador. I feel like Shador gave

(06:44):
them a spark and gave them a little bit of excitement.
You saw the hope, the way they kind of positioned
it with the way they showed the content of the games.

Speaker 7 (06:54):
Yeah, that's for the media though, like, yeah, how this looks.

Speaker 5 (06:58):
No one gives it.

Speaker 7 (07:00):
Gives a crap in the locker room unless you're helping
him win, you know, and he made enough.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
But what yeah, he's helping him win.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
I mean, he did good enough this past game to win.
If you look into the stats and analytics, there's a
lot of skepticism because he's the fifth lowest graded quarterback.

Speaker 5 (07:18):
Of the entire season off of what he's done so far.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Damn.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
Now, that doesn't mean that he won't get better. You know,
when you look at.

Speaker 7 (07:24):
That list of players Quinn e or As, Jaylen Milroe,
guys who are also rookies, Riley Leonard Notre Dame like
the also rookies, short small sample size, So as he plays,
I assume he will get better. But let's let's not
overreact too much to it. But I do think it's
it's good for the Browns to see what they have
in him. They drafted him. Let the guy play, you know,

(07:45):
see what you've got. He made some nice plays, buying time,
getting outside the pocket to make big throws down the field.
And I thought their coaching staff, contrary to what social
media will tell you out there, set him up to succeed.
If you watched the film, you would see that for
the most part, it was either screens to get the
ball out of his hand quick or they use seven

(08:08):
man protections where they didn't have to worry too much
about trying to worry about him figuring out the protection.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
Everything else, block them all up.

Speaker 7 (08:17):
Let him take chunks and shots downfield, and if it's
not there, dumb it down.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
He can do those sorts of things.

Speaker 7 (08:23):
So I thought their coaching staff did a good job too,
kind of playing to things that would help protect him
but also give him a chance to succeed, and they
were able to do just that.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
More teams should do that. All these sacks you saw
Geno Smith seeing ghosts out there. More teams should do
max protection. I'd rather him have time to throw it
to somebody than no time in getting sacked for the
sake of trying to what like release too many guys
out into the passing round.

Speaker 7 (08:52):
Well, that's the issue is if you've got seven guys
in protection, right, you can only have three guys out
in the routes, and so eventually you've got a lot
that running back that's height end or however you construct
it could be two running backs. You have to allow
those guys to release, otherwise they're never gonna have the
impact on the secondary. They need to have to pull
some of those you know, hook curl defenders down or

(09:13):
guys who are responsible for.

Speaker 5 (09:15):
The underneath color, underneath coverage.

Speaker 7 (09:17):
So if you can't do that, you might find yourself
you know, throwing some air and balls or throwing footballs away,
which you also saw a little bit from time to
time too, So again it's it's a little more nuanced conversation.
But I thought they did a good job not giving
them too much that was gonna be too difficult, or
putting him in bad spots, which again was the entire

(09:37):
narrative after he came in off the bench as a backup.
And I feel like I was the only one on
the show outside of you know, maybe Jonas who wanted
to point out that that's the life of a backup
of any position.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
So really thought, well, I didn't think he'd ever play,
so I didn't.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
Again, you're gonna watch the Browns more. They played four
to five quarterbacks every season.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
But wanted him cut.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
I did not want him cut earlier in the summer.
You were actually I did not.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
You changed your tune, but earlier this summer.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
No, No, that's an inaccurate representation of what I said.
I said as a fifth rounder, there would there would.
I would not be surprised if he got cut because
of the they brought in Picket, then they bring in Flacco,
You drafted Dylan Gabriel and you drafted Shador Sanders. Shador

(10:32):
Sanders being the last one out of all of them,
I thought he might get cut. I didn't say I
was calling for him to get cut.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Was did a Did Tyler Huntley also get a get
a cut?

Speaker 1 (10:43):
I think he was with the Browns for like a
week and a half. Yeah, there's a lot of guys
there with the.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
Brown Picket was gone by then though. Yeah, he was
a part of the team too. Huntley, Yeah, I get that,
But I'm saying, but when they brought him in, Picket
was gone by then, right, he was gone about it? Yes,
it was after Yeah, it's hard to keep track of
which would still tell you that there was no real
confidence possibly and all the guys they had on their roster,

(11:14):
like they were still trying to figure out that they
have to have somebody that could jump in there and
play for them to try to win games. I don't
think there's a ton of confidence in this quarterback room,
if I'm being honest. Now, how that plays out and
what happens, I don't know, But I would have thought
that they would have gave Picket an opportunity. Flacco beats

(11:37):
them out, Okay, but I'm not getting rid of a
guy that I brought in that could compete. If I
go with a guy that could compete for the starting
job with another guy that can compete for the starting job,
I'm not letting both of them go because those are
the guys that I projected and anticipated to be the

(11:58):
starters for my team. We just had the conversation about
JJ McCarthy in an hour one, which you could get
on our podcast. By the way, Joe, make sure you
go wherever it is that you get your podcasts from
search Fox Sports Radio and you can get a podcast anyway. Yeah.
I mean, there's nothing wrong with giving rookies, especially late

(12:21):
round draft pick rookies, an opportunity to sit and learn.
I have no problem with Shador being on the bench.
I have no problem with Dylan Gabriel being on the bench,
getting an opportunity to learn the flow of the game,
the operation of the week, the operation of the game plan,
the dudes, the don'ts, all those different things that Jordan

(12:44):
Love had the benefit of being able to get. We
always are often forcing and pressuring these young guys to
be world beaters in a league full of guys that
are there as pros just as well, they're they're pros
to on the other side of the ball, and a

(13:04):
lot of them are are veteran pros. They they understand tendencies.
They understand lineups and and matchups and and and you know,
formations and all kinds of downs and situational football. They
understand that. So to ask a kid, basically a kid
to come in and be able to operate and activate

(13:26):
against these types of units, that's a lot. It's a
daunting task for any of them, whether they have success
or not, it's a daunting task.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
Do you think would it be I don't know if
this would be.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
You know, kind of disrespectful, But do you think, you know,
with as much of a bad position as they put
shad or Sanders in throughout his entire NFL journey thus far,
do you think those.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Wretches that's arcas well.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
No, I'm just I want to know, do you think
those those wretched sons of bitches that the NFL could
just schedule the rates every week for the Browns, like
at least if they could do that much based on
all the difficult situations he's been put in, I think
that would make everybody happy.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
We're trying we want to please everybody.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
What's doing right now?

Speaker 2 (14:13):
I just I want him to have a fair ship.

Speaker 7 (14:15):
I'm making fun of the situation. It's hilarious, like people,
I just it is what it is.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
I just want to see him get the Raiders every week,
the awful Raiders every single week. So we can you know,
celebrate that play perfect timing.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
Yeah, so you don't think he can win this week?

Speaker 2 (14:32):
They got the Niners.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
Short? We check the uh the Niners they just played?

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Are you sticks picking it? Are you stick?

Speaker 1 (14:49):
They're in Cleveland and the Niners are a six point favorite.

Speaker 4 (14:54):
Yeah, I take I take the Browns on this one.

Speaker 7 (14:57):
Yeah, perfect whoa hold you to that too?

Speaker 5 (15:04):
Hold you to that.

Speaker 4 (15:07):
They ain't gonna be able to deal with that defense.
All stra Door gotta do is manage the game. Don't
turn the ball over, manage the game. Let them let
them do time. Yeah, it's perfect time and it's gonna
be a big win, big win for Cleveland.

Speaker 8 (15:26):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
You know what though, Actually, let me ask you this, Brady,
do Browns fans give a rip who the quarterback is?

Speaker 4 (15:33):
Like?

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Is there's this clamoring for shad Or Sanders over Dylan Gabriel.

Speaker 7 (15:37):
No, they just want to win. You know, they're just
excited that they won. You know, if they win this week,
he'll be they'll be behind them excited. If they lose,
they'll be like, this guy's a bum. They want to
move on to the next guy. That's just how it is.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
I know what they do care about. They're hot sauce.
En listening, original Louisiana hots. It's got it, simple ingredients,
three of them. Put them onto your plate. Turns any
Tuesday into a tail Oh yeah, tailgate Tuesday. It is Tuesday.

(16:12):
So hey, listen, no matter what day it is, grabbing
to reach original Louisiana hot sauce and add a little
game day to every day. All right, that's a Louisiana
hot sauce. Make sure you're bat youse. Hey.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
By the way, Shaye is a Browns fan. Shaye, you
were You were at the Raiders Browns game. What was
the buzz like for all number twelve out there.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
In its history? Man?

Speaker 9 (16:34):
Yeah, we were excited. No, yeah, there's a lot of
Browns fans. So it was funny because it seemed like
everyone was just kind of like okay, We're like, we're
okay with each other because we both suck, so everyone
was kind of just like celebrating that, and then it
kind of turned into Browns being too hopeful and seeing
the three touchdowns and like being like, oh my god,
it's the Dore time. So at the table is after

(16:54):
the game, everyone I was talking to it was like, Yeah,
I'm really feeling excited about this, and I'm just sitting there.
I'm like, dude, forty two quarterbacks since nineteen ninety nine.
We were just talking about this, Like, come on, We've
seen this happen all too much before. Everyone has been great.
I'm like RG three was a starting quarterback at one
time for the Browns. Like that's like it goes back
so much to where it's like there's so many names.

(17:16):
Everyone has had hype. It's just I'm annoyed by it.
It's like I was happy to see a win. Was
the first game where I was like, oh my god,
we have the lead. We might actually win this game.
Every other time we've had the lead, I knew we
were gonna lose, but no, it was it was cool.
I'm happy for Shador, but I have I'm not hopeful.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Yeah, but you just want to win games, so it
doesn't matter with the quarterback exactly, Dylan Gabriel should doesn't matter?

Speaker 4 (17:39):
Yeah, So all.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
Right, Well, something to monitor here, the Shood or Sanders situation.
Hopefully everybody who's in a better mood surrounding Shud or
Sanders and we can all we can all find common ground,
so the hot takes can die. It is two pros

Agin just search two pros FSR and subscribe. All right,
so we have some different reports some different quote unquote
updates on the Lane Kiffin situation in the world of
college football. It came out on Friday into Saturday that,

(21:28):
according to Ross Dellinger, that lane Kiffin has an offer
on the table from LSU, seeing the numbers ninety million
dollars over seven years, which could approach one hundred million
dollars in the contract twenty five million dollars worth of
nil money also attached to that they've decided that he

(21:49):
will make an announcement on his future, reportedly coming up
on Saturday after the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State. There's
also been a report out there lane Kiffin has set
himself he's going to coach through the rest of the season.
There's a report that players have grown a little frustrated
with the circus surrounding all this. Pete Nachos of On

(22:10):
three also says that sources at ole Miss have said
clarity on Kiffin's future could come on Wednesday or Thursday actually,
but nothing is expected to be formally announced until Saturday,
although that stuff will probably most likely the way this
whole thing has gone leak out before then.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
So ken olt Miss bid higher than LSU. Now that
they know the number that's out there, Like, are they
able to do that? Now? You might know that better
than anyone. Q. I mean, are they do they have
the war chest to be able to counter what other
poachers may be trying to do?

Speaker 7 (22:48):
Well, I would say this, it doesn't matter what's out there.
Obviously Kiffn's agent is talking.

Speaker 5 (22:53):
To ole Miss and LSU and Florida and anyone else
who's interested.

Speaker 7 (22:58):
So the interesting thing about that question is I don't
know how LSU has the war chest to pay Lane
Kiff and what there is reportedly being thrown out there to.

Speaker 5 (23:08):
Pay along with nil and everything else.

Speaker 4 (23:11):
And the plot to Buddy to Brian Kelly.

Speaker 7 (23:15):
Yeah, the most cringe thing that happened throughout the entire
Senior Day process was his son going out there for
Senior Day at LSU like Kenzel Kelly wearing a saying
free BK, free BK. Like I'm like, what what? Like
you you mean you want your dad to be paid?

Speaker 4 (23:37):
Like?

Speaker 7 (23:37):
I like? It was funny to me. People were asking like, oh,
I didn't know Brian Kelly at a sun who PLAYE.
I was like, I wasn't aware of that either until
obviously I saw his son and then when I saw
him saying all that, I'm thinking to myself, Well, they're like,
why is he saying free bk Well, that's part of
his inheritance probably, So I'm sure he's very much invested

(23:57):
and making sure his dad gets the fifty four and
that's owed to him. I'm assuming he's pretty aware of,
you know, him being a part of that at some
point in the future. So I'm sure he wants, you know,
his dad get the money he wants. But if they're
trying to offer Lane Kiffen one hundred million and they've
got nil money as well, but that they still owe

(24:19):
fifty four million, like where's all the money coming from?
And they try to fight paying Brian Kelly the fifty
four that he's owed, and now you're going to turn
around and throw another hundred at this. I mean to
answer your question, LeVar, Yeah, I'm sure they could find it,
because clearly LSU has been going around trying to find
funds to pay off Brian Kelly and pay Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 5 (24:40):
So there's that element to it, you know. But could
Almoss do the same.

Speaker 7 (24:44):
Sure, I'm sure someone could figure out a way of
finding enough money to sign up for that contract. I
think that the bigger question is if you're Old Miss
and you look at what Lane Kiffin has done. Has
Lane kiffen ever won a conference championship?

Speaker 5 (25:03):
Ever?

Speaker 6 (25:03):
No?

Speaker 7 (25:05):
Ever, I wouldn't know, So Yah, did he win one
when he was in the Pac twelve or Pack ten
back then? He didn't win one? With the one year
he was at Tennessee. He hasn't won one since he's
been at Old Miss. And so I'm bringing this up
only because I think when you eliminate emotions out of
these decisions that are attached to these coaches, what have

(25:28):
they really done and accomplished?

Speaker 5 (25:30):
You know, they've won three straight.

Speaker 7 (25:32):
Seasons or they've won ten games, that is an accomplishment,
I think most people would say at Old Miss, meaning
they've brought it to a higher level of performance and
they have sustained that higher level and shown consistency, which
is important if you want to keep taking those next
steps right. You can't just kind of be a flash
in the pan, or you know, when you're up up

(25:53):
next year, you're down that sort of thing. So it
makes you feel like he's built up a program that
now has sustained success, But can he take the next
step to help them win a national championship.

Speaker 5 (26:04):
I personally believe in.

Speaker 7 (26:05):
Today's era, Yeah, if Indiana can be a part of
that conversation, now they're to build him still in the mix.
You know, if those schools can make that sort of
turn around, why not you know, why not Old Miss
as being one of those teams in the conversation that's
still not mathematically eliminated for the SEC Championship game, they'll
probably be in that large bid for the College Football
Playoff and once again and we'll see what they're capable of.

(26:27):
But I bring all this up because if you're Old
miss and Lane Kiffen and his representation, which I believe
is probably Jimmy Sexton, I don't know off the top
of head.

Speaker 5 (26:37):
I'm sure you can look it up.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
I think it is.

Speaker 7 (26:41):
I would imagine that they're using this as a leverage point.
And if you're Old Missed, you have to say to yourselves,
could we bring someone in who could do the exact
same thing or build off of this, Like do we
feel like Lane ultimately can.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
Help us win a national championship?

Speaker 7 (26:53):
There might be some people who feel like this is
our ceiling with Lane here, It'll miss and they're okay
with them going in a different direction bringing someone else in.

Speaker 5 (27:02):
Again.

Speaker 7 (27:03):
I think you look at what Kurt and Signetti has
done to the college football landscape. A coach who came
from James Madison, who came from a bunch of smaller schools,
and has literally been able to build up Indiana into
a contender over the past two years. Like, if I'm
another school right now looking for my next head coach,

(27:25):
I'm casting a pretty wide net because I look at
the deals that s S made with Lincoln Riley. Still
no conference championship, Still no college football playoff birth there
won't be this year either since he got there, right,
I mean people will well you know they joined the
tough Big ten. Okay, well he was in the Pac
twelve when he first got there. Couldn't do it there either,

(27:48):
or couldn't do it then either. So you look at
some of these coaches that are the hot names that
end up going somewhere for a one hundred million dollars contract.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
How's that working out?

Speaker 7 (27:57):
Or SC fans happy with Lincoln Riley after what has
it been five years now?

Speaker 5 (28:04):
I mean, you look at what Kurtzignette's done.

Speaker 7 (28:06):
He's put a lot of pressure on a lot of
other programs and coaches because he didn't come up that
way to Indiana. He took the opportunities, turned it into
into a contender right away. Now he's eventually got that
big contract and he'll have to continue to keep proving
it and earning it. But the truth of the matter is,
I don't I just I don't know that Old miss
needs to hang on to Lane Kiffin in order to

(28:28):
continue to win.

Speaker 4 (28:30):
So you think they hit their sailing with Lane Kiffin,
I do.

Speaker 7 (28:34):
I don't think they'll win a national championship this year.
I don't think he's staying. If he was staying, he
would have made the decision to stay already.

Speaker 4 (28:41):
But if he were staying, would they be better Would
they be better better off if if he were staying
Or is it okay to just let him go because
where they're at right now, it's not worth paying him.

Speaker 7 (28:54):
Well, here's market You nor I or anyone else for
that matter, unless you're in that program, understand how much
money resources and funds they have. You know, I would
say this like, would you rather invest one hundred million
dollars in a coach or have one hundred million dollars
in a nil. I mean, I'll look at this way.
Texas Tech, for example, they have Cody Campbell, who was
a billionaire.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
And what did.

Speaker 7 (29:15):
Texas Tech do this offseason? Hey, is University of Miami here,
We're gonna pay you half a million dollars. Next phone call,
Hey we're Texas Tech. How much is Miami paying you?
Five hundred thousand. We're gonna give you six hundred thousand.
Boom click, flying to Lubbock. Every single one of those
guys they got, they outbid. It wasn't like they were
trying to pay the market value. They knew that they

(29:36):
were overpaying for the players. And guess what it's got
in Texas Tech. They're in position right now not only
win the Big Twelve, but go on try to win
for un national championship. And by the way, they look
like a team like Ohio State, like Bama, like some
of the other teams. When you go see the big
boys in the trenches and you can see their old
line and D line. It didn't lose to look like
that a couple of years ago. They look like that now.

(30:00):
And I know, like the whole eye test and thing
gets thrown around a lot but the reality is that
money spent on that roster has taken what was an
eight and five program under Joey McGuire never it was
better than eight and five, and they're now a team
that we're talking about winning a conference, going to play
for a national championship. So when you asked me the question, yeah,

(30:21):
I feel like the money could be better spent on
a roster because this game is always about players. It
always has been, always will be, and especially at a
level like college football, where there is still a big
time and talent gap between the haves and have nots.
So I personally would rather find a guy that I
feel like is a really good coach leader of men,

(30:42):
and give him a war chest to go outbid everyone
and go get every stacked transfer portal player you can
and every big name recruit you can to Oxford Mississippi,
and if Lane wants to go to LSU, so be it.

Speaker 4 (31:00):
If that, if that theory works, then that will totally
change the landscape of college football forever.

Speaker 7 (31:11):
So let me ask who was reportedly the most expensive
roster last year in college football?

Speaker 4 (31:17):
Was it A and M or S m U s
MU neither?

Speaker 7 (31:20):
It was Ohio State, Yes, it was who was who
was the program two years ago that invested in and
put a ton of money in the roster.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
Again, that's who you are. You're going with this, all right,
see where you're going.

Speaker 5 (31:33):
With so right now now, I'm not saying Texas Tech
is That.

Speaker 4 (31:36):
Doesn't So you're saying Ryan Day and Hardball aren't that
they just managed the coaches.

Speaker 5 (31:43):
Yeah, that's part of that's part of it.

Speaker 4 (31:44):
You're managing it.

Speaker 7 (31:45):
But you know, the point I'm making is Jeremiah Smith,
Carnell Tate, all these talented players they have, you know,
that's a part of it. Like you, you're able to
get those talented players to coach. Like you probably didn't
watch Ohio State Rutgers this past week. They didn't have
Cornel State, they didn't have Jeeramiah Smith, but they were

(32:06):
able to work at to Max Clair, they were able
to work at some of the other tight ends because.

Speaker 5 (32:10):
Those guys were injured.

Speaker 7 (32:11):
But yeah, the offense looks a little different when those
two guys aren't out there, not quite as potent as
it normally is.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
The timing of this, the whole thing, is the part
that kind of bugs me.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
It's, yeah, not that timing that time looks perfect.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
It's the timing of it all where it's you know,
their rivalry game coming up. They're trying to get to
a college football playoff. They've got all this stuff, and
when you see that report, the players are frustrated with
the circus. I don't blame them, man, Like, what are
we doing here? Why can't this wait until after the season.
Why can't this wait until later on when we can

(32:52):
get through this stuff and then we can focus on
all that. Instead they're having to have conversations about their
coach bailing.

Speaker 7 (32:58):
I thought it was interesting listening to Lane kiff and
talk yesterday about this because his comment was, and LeVar
can kind of probably speak to this kids, like these
days are different. You know when we were looking at schools,
we were looking at a place that, hey, we could
get our degree, we could try to go win a national.

Speaker 5 (33:16):
Championship, play football, go to the NFL.

Speaker 7 (33:19):
But we also looked at it and instead our coach
is we're gonna be with them for the next four
or five years, let's say three to five years, Like
that's how we used to look at it. And Lane's
point was, kids don't look at their college football experience
that way anymore. From high school now into college, it's
very transient and it's almost like a year to year

(33:40):
deal where they're just looking at the here and now
and trying to see how it's gonna help them become
the best player they can be and give them the
best chance to go make money, go play football, go
go play in.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
The NFL someday.

Speaker 7 (33:53):
And he said, so, the players aren't as quite as
upset about the you know this sort of thing because
they can do it too. And because of that now,
at least to his words, he thinks that it kind
of changes their perspective on coaches when they're in this.

Speaker 5 (34:11):
Position because the players in a very similar position.

Speaker 4 (34:14):
I think it's where you come from. And it's probably
a very small percentage of athletes of kids that come
from a scenario where they're actually taught to look at
the academic value of the university as well as what

(34:35):
it has to offer athletically. I think that that has
something right.

Speaker 5 (34:41):
But that's not that's point.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
Now.

Speaker 7 (34:43):
The point is, like back when we played, you couldn't
transfer unless you're gonna sit out.

Speaker 5 (34:47):
Of here, and you have to give you some potential
of your eligibility. Yes, So all I'm saying is nowadays
kids don't.

Speaker 7 (34:52):
They look at it more as like, well, I can
go anywhere else if I need to, just like he can.
So I'm not gonna condemn him looking to go somewhere else.
I get get paid when I'm doing the same thing.

Speaker 4 (35:04):
But my takeaway from listening to what you're saying is basically,
kids aren't offended or bothered by it as much it's
or maybe it's as it's it's more expected than what
it's ever been based upon the landscape of where things
are right now. So I understand what you're saying. I
think I feel like that's my interpretation of again, how

(35:28):
some of these players would be looking at, or how
a lot of them are looking at, what these scenarios
with going to a university, you know what it represents.
There's the strong possibility I go here, we're good, and
my coach isn't going to be here. So do I
go here because of the coach or do I go
here because of the school, And a lot of times

(35:52):
it should be both. It has to be both. To
anyone that says that a kid that leaves the school
to follow a coach anything like that, they didn't go
there for the right reasons, this and that, Like, I
feel like that's a hard judgment. I feel like that's
a very hard judgment because the trust factor that it
plays in allowing your child to go to this university,

(36:16):
for one, but who's going to be raising and managing
my child once they leave my home. That's a very
big part of why kids choose the schools they choose.
So if that guy is leaving, then you know, it
creates a whole nother dynamic of how you're interpreting, you know,

(36:40):
what the college experience is truly about, and kids, really
families get shamed when it's not academically driven. And I
don't know that we're in a time and place where
that is able to exist now at the level that
it did when we were playing Q Like that was
a major piece. Like if you said I was going

(37:03):
there just for football, you were shunned, frowned upon. Know
you're a jock, you're a meathead, you name it. But
now I don't I don't think that that judgment is
there as much. I don't know that it can be
there as much. If you're leaving, you're leaving and those
reasons aren't academically rooted, it's business rooted.

Speaker 1 (37:27):
Even Yeah, you don't think in that it's more accepted now,
Like I don't know that anybody.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
Cares whether or not you've got your degree.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
I don't know. Which is crazy, which is crazy because
we're still fighting this whole idea of student athlete student athlete.
This is not this is still not professional sports. So
until you're willing to allow it to be stated that way,

(37:57):
which to me, I feel has always been a hustle.
But if you're if you're not concerning yourselves with the
academic level and the standards that are connected to being
a student athlete at the college level, then that totally
that totally changes the conversation. And we're college athletics, college football,

(38:19):
where it's going, where it's hitting, Yeah, changes everything.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
Yeah, And I mean, you know, regardless of the background,
I think we all can agree is Sesame Street helped
raise all of us, and now it's our term. So
donate this holiday season at Sesame dot org because the
world needs Sesame and Sesame needs you.

Speaker 2 (38:37):

The Giants have found another fall guy. It's not Brian Daball.
They already claimed that one earlier in the year. Defensive
coordinator Shane Bowen out of there, fired by the New
York Giants following that loss in overtime to the Detroit

(39:44):
Lions over the weekend, Outside linebackers coach Charlie Bollen will
be taken over the interim duties there. So Mike Kafka,
who's an interim himself, apparently wanted to feel what it
was like to fire somebody as a head coach.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
And before he meets the Yeah, why not.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
You know, let me try. Let me see every angle
in every aspect of this gig.

Speaker 7 (40:04):
Any coaches last, just like keep firing guys like who's
gonna be left to.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
Coach the team? It's high school staff and done.

Speaker 2 (40:16):
Have you have you talked to Abdul this year of
our No?

Speaker 4 (40:19):
I have not. I have not.

Speaker 1 (40:22):
You have not not asked him how that experience has gone.

Speaker 4 (40:25):
There would I will?

Speaker 7 (40:27):
He's missing meetings, you know, Dan, I'm saying you would
have talked some sense into him.

Speaker 4 (40:34):
Yeah, well, I will wait till the season comes to
a uh completion before we have or sit down talk.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
Yeah what do you think that might sound like?

Speaker 4 (40:50):
I'm pretty positive, you know, I'll talk to him and
see what what he's experienced and and what his uh
you know, did he meet his his goals for the year?
How is he emotionally you know, mentally? You know, did
he get through physically? Is you know, is everything okay,

(41:11):
and then it'll just be a matter of understanding the
business of where you are now and and the realities
that that exists with that, you know, and that would
be our conversation. It would be based around that, you know,
understanding Losing is a part of it when you're a
high draft pick, and building is a part of it

(41:32):
as well. And your legacy will be either tied to
mediocrity or to be tied to you built something you
are a part of building something where you remember for
being you know, great for what you did. And and
so we'll have those conversations, you know, but well it'll
be our season's conclusion.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
Yeah, yeah, hopefully hopefully.

Speaker 4 (41:58):
You can wake up. You know, he's no sleeping.

Speaker 2 (42:01):
What do you mean.

Speaker 4 (42:02):
I just figured I was going to do maybe a
mattress firm read or something like that if you want
to get comfortable, like I does, like for you.

Speaker 5 (42:11):
To finish, you know, waiting for the fish.

Speaker 7 (42:13):
