more or more is less how everyone to describe in

this case, because if I have to come here like
once a month to grab some stuff, that is a win.
And so I'm like taking my four kids around trying
to like huddle them while I'm being distracted. I mean,
I could not get over them. You get a car,
You can get a car from Costco, Like they have
like a car program there, Like there's nothing that they
don't have there. I feel like we're giving free advertising

right now. But I was blown away, And I know
I'm gonna get made fun of for this, but I
have just not ever had the time or lived like
close enough in proximity to a Costco to go to
a Costco.

of the draft. They've added peace is around him, not
just Keenan Allen, but they went out and added Gerald Everett.
He's going to be there as well too. They've added
DeAndre Swift He's there as well too. The offensive line
people think is promising. They've shown flashes the defensive pretty

good defensively, and Maddy Buflus's defensive head coach Baby Kwan
b in the back.

So if so Shane Waldron the OC can get the
offense on track, it would make some sense that maybe
they would take some strides. But it's just also an
acknowledgment that you know, justin fields was maybe holding them
back at times.

Last year. I think they end up third or fourth
in the NFC North, third or fourth in their own division.
So if that, if that equates to you getting Coach
of the Year and getting Rookie of the Year, then
let's go with it. But I see I see Detroit
winning it. I see green Bay maybe edging Detroit out

to win it, So that would give them a second place.
So if you want to flip flop Detroit in green Bay.
And the only reason why I would say they have
odds favorite on Minnesota is because they have a rookie
quarterback as well, that possibly that's going to start as well.
You got two rookie qbs, but they're going to be

battling it out for third and fourth as well in
their respective division if you ask me, so, I don't
know how you get coach of the Year or get
Rookie of the year depending on maybe his his performances.
But you know, it is what it is to me.
That's how I see it.

They were seven to ten last year, right, they started
off three and fourteen. Hebraflus's first year. Seven to ten
last year, which you know, you really you could look
at the job that they've done on the roster, I
think as part of the growth that you saw from
justin fields, but also around them, I mean, getting them
Dj Moore, getting him some help the offensive line plows better.

That's the big question is is the roster rate a
position around the quarterback position to be able to look
Caleb Williams could be generational. That was what the word
people throw around about him, you know, the only comp
you can really make to them. Some people, you know,
look at Rogers as far as the way you kind
of throw off platform and kind of the flick.

Of the wrist.

Some say Mahomes whatever you want to compare him to.
When you're using those two names as a comp clearly
people think he's special. And so if he is that special,
how high could he take him in his first year?
I mean, I think he could get them to a
winning record, But if you look at the division around them,
I mean Minnesota is probably going to be starting a
rookie quarterback. I think it's going to be Jaj McCarthy.

If not, it's going to be Sam Donald to start
off with. And so maybe you feel more optimistic about that.
I'm not really sure how people feel. I think Sam Donald,
with a talent they have it in Minnesota, could flow,
could really flourish, could play really well in that system.

We got to see.

Can Detroit replicate what they did last year? I mean
that's a team that everyone's excited about. They're excited to
watch them. Maybe this time around. You listen to guys
like Aiden Hutchison talk about getting the super Bowl now,
like like this is their year.

They feel like it's they're.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
Gonna get to the you know, NFC Championship game, move on,
get the super Bowl. You know that That's that's where
they feel like they're at. And maybe they are.
Speaker 6 (11:09):
But it's really really hard to.

Sustain that level of consistent success. So I'm not saying
they're gonna be a playoff team. I think they're going
to improve on the seven sen record. I think they
get to eight and nine, nine and eight.

Their schedule is kind of funky.

That's the only way I can put it. But it's
not the most difficult schedule. The bye comes about halfway
through the season. They start off with Tennessee at Houston,
at Indy, and then they go to La Carolina Jacksonville.
It's like spurts of home and then away because they
come out of the bye.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Play back to back like that favorable deal though kind of.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
I mean, I don't know how you guys feel about that,
Like they will basically play a home game November twenty.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Fourth Carolina, but you know that, I think they might
be able to pull that.
Speaker 6 (11:54):
On ut I'm not high on we're going to but
hear me out. Hear me out.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
They they play at home November twenty fourth, they don't
come back home again till December twenty second, So that's
how their schedule kind of shapes out. It's a weird,
streaky schedule, and I think sometimes it's hard when you've
got either new pieces or young pieces, when you have
to navigate a schedule like that, it's hard to get
into a rhythm when you're back to back weeks on

the road, three weeks at home, back back weeks on
the road, a couple weeks at home, it's tough to
adjust to when your first year playing.
Speaker 6 (12:28):
I do think they'll be improved.

I also like how the schedule makers are like, all right,
so it's the Bear's turn to play the AFC. Sound,
how do we want to break this up. We'll give
them Tennessee Houston, Indy the first three weeks, right, that works,
and then we'll figure out everything else after that. And
then they go play overseas and they've got that buy
that you mentioned. So if they're a nine win team,
which would be an improvement over the seven from a
year ago, does that get you coach of the Year?
(12:51):
Like I look at it, I think Jim Harbaugh at
eleven to one is the one to watch for coach
of the year because there's more knowns than there is
in Chicago. Like we know Justin Herbert's a good quarterback.
We know that Jim Harbaugh is a good coach. We
know that last year a lot of that had to
do with the Brandon Staley debacle and the fiasco there.
(13:12):
Herbert got injured at some point during the season. I
look at Jim Harbaugh's being the one to watch for
a Coach of the year next year because I just
think there's more that you can count on there that
you've seen. I'm gonna go out on the on the
ledge and say I'm looking at a horrorball to be
the coach of the Year. But not not Jim. I'm
looking at John. God, you're gonna do it again. I

Let me tell people behind the scenes, this is what
happened here. LeVar and I had picked the Ravens to
go to a super Bowl or make a deep.

last year was the year I jumped off.

But last year was the year that we were like

host an AFC title game before they melt it down
against k C and so.

and so Brady, who's your coach of the year? You got?

You gotta put your your harder and costco dollars down
on some coach of the year action Who you got?

Oh man, that's a tough one, because I feel like
this is one of the harder award winners in the
NFL season to predict, only because you know, you look
at like a team that suffers a bunch of injuries
like Cleveland last year, and then it leads to Kevin
stefans g having four quarterbacks start for h great point
and and so it's like you're not anticipating a battling

like that, true.

Man, because because.

In my head, I'm thinking more similar to LeVar, like
John Harbaugh, a team that finally gets over the hump
get to the super Bowl, like they win it, but
oftentimes it ends up being a team that battles through something.

So here you're you want to give you the odds
the list of names, all right, So iber Flus is
the favorite on DraftKings at nine to one, followed by
Robert Sala, Levar's guy, and then Jim harbaught eleven to one,
and then you've got Matt Lafleur, Raheem Morris, Dmko, Ryans,
Jonathan Gannon, Dan Campbell, mak O.

Ryan's is a good one. If he could have a
repeat performance in last year, that's a good one to
throw in the mix.

Because I mean he was essentially second this year, right
was he? I mean he's he's I thought he was
next up to Stefanski in the voting.

The Carolina Panthers are moving on from a high ranking
official within the organization. No, it's not a head coach

this time, but apparently just kind of quietly, the Panthers
VP of Player Personnel, Adriane Wilson, he has left the team.

There was no announcement, there was no anything.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Somebody pointed out that his name was no longer shown
on the website as part of the front office. When
Pro Football Talk reached out to get confirmation on this,
the Panthers said, yeah, so he's You know, Adrian Wilson
will not continue in his position as Vice president of
player Personnel for the Carolina Panthers, consistent with our organizational
(21:12):
policy on employee matters. We will have no further comment.

Sure, you won't. He just got there a year ago.
I don't know, thank you, you just got there a
year ago. What the hell is going on?

Let me just give people a track record to who
aren't familiar with.

Adrian Wilson, longtime veteran player for the Cardinals forever, spent
a year in New England I think, finished in the
off season with the Bears back in twenty fourteen, but
immediately jumped back to the Cardinals organization and their front
office as a scout, has risen up the ranks, and
probably over the past four or five years, he's been

one of those names that's been one of the hot
names looking at taking that leap to becoming.
Speaker 6 (21:53):
A general manager. Has interviewed for a number of their spots.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
He's very high in a lot of people's radars in
that regard, so very very well respected, and obviously left
Arizona as the VP of scouting in his final years
there to take the opportunity to be the VP of
player personnel in Carolina. Now, what could happen between now
and then in the past year, I've got a couple thoughts.
I mean, the first would be, I don't know, imagine

having an owner that is so upset what they signed
at a local establishment in Carolina that he just happens
to pop in and give hell to the hostess or
the host and on top of that, make a comment
about the hat that particular individual is wearing. That's all
caught on camera, mind you? Or better yet, what was

if that same owner happened to throw a drink which
I forget what when you claimed it was he it
was did a Molotov cocktails?

That s yeah, in someone's face. I imagine that it
would come.

From an organization with that sort of ownership. So this
to me points and smells like everything to do with
David Tepper and the way he's conducted himself since he's
taken over his team, and not so much an indication
of what Adrian.

Wilson did or did not do.

He just Adrian Wilson will land on his feet somewhere
and will become a general manager one day, mark my
words on that.

So basically, what what it sounds like is it comes
down to sometimes it's just I'm a man first, you know.
Sometimes it's just kind of like respect, respect the situation
where you allow me to act as the position that
I have, you know, and I And to me, that's

that's how I'm interpreting it. Just knowing Adrian Wilson and
knowing who he is and knowing the type of person
is that he is and the type of player that
he was. He's a warrior. And there's some people that
just you know, they're willing to handle and shoulder and
and and kind of deal with, you know what what

we'll call maybe could be distractions, could be unnecessary uh
influencing or conversations. You know, almost like if Adrian Wilson
was working for the Dallas Cowboys, right, that might not work.

what I need to do. And sometimes I was watching
what was what show was that I was watching clipped
and how the dude, the owner would would talk to
Doc Rivers at times when he come into locker room
with the fans and stuff like that and be like, well,
it's my team. You know, some people just don't really

get down like that. If you're hiring me to be
a part of your organization, to do what I can
to make your organization a better organization, allow for me
to do my job. You know, so many times we
run I won't say so many times. I just I'll
just say this, and my experience in the National Football League,
my experience right out the gate, you had someone who

influence on people of the decision making positions and in

own the team, like relax, Let let these guys do it.
You get all the credit because you hire them, Relax,
but they can't do it. And just there's some guys
out here that just don't play that type of game,
like Adrian Wilson, the type of dude be like, I'm
I'm I'm going to step down from this position. I'm

going to move on. And oh, by the way, if
you would like, after you accept my resignation, if you
would like to meet me outside in the parking lot,
I will gladly handle you outside, man to man, I'll
gladly handle the situation the way you want. We can
handle it. Like, gentlemen, we could go outside in the

of person I wouldn't mess with.

are done. And he took whatever I think was twenty
million dollars or whatever he got, and he just kind

had all sorts of issues. You had that weirdos in Cleveland.

And after he signed the contract extension, there was the
DeAndre Hopkins stuff like he like Houston went through all that.
It's almost like cal McNair kind of took a step

Rating organization up until Bill O'Brien took over the GM duties.
When't we say that, Yeah, I mean he was doing
well as they were doing well as as an organization. Yeah,
I don't know what the organizational component is in Houston.
I just know that they had great success for an
extended amount of time. We're very close.

I mean they were one of them to sufficient right
like four of the seven years he was head coached there.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
The one year they were spanking the Chiefs in the
playoffs and just like, let him come back.

But let them off the hook. We knew who they were.
But but the thing about it is is that that's
a team that all they needed was that belief renewed
and restored, and that that came through, that came shining
through with somebody who was a part of that success

Carolina Panthers situation. It's very different because while they did

have success, it was under a different owner. For one,
it was a different era in time. And you had
Cam Newton and you had Julius Peppers on one side
of you.

you had who was in the backfield, D'Angelo and and
uh who was the other And then you had another
one in the backfield you I mean you had Steve Smith.

were able.

I could not get over them. You get a car,

have just not ever had the time or lived like
close enough in proximity to a Costco to go to

So if so Shane Waldron the OC can get the
offense on track, it would make some sense that maybe
they would take some strides. But it's just also an
acknowledgment that you know, justin fields was maybe holding them
back at times.

Last year. I think they end up third or fourth
in the NFC North, third or fourth in their own division.
So if that, if that equates to you getting Coach
of the Year and getting Rookie of the Year, then
let's go with it. But I see I see Detroit
winning it. I see green Bay maybe edging Detroit out

to win it, So that would give them a second place.
So if you want to flip flop Detroit in green Bay.
And the only reason why I would say they have
odds favorite on Minnesota is because they have a rookie
quarterback as well, that possibly that's going to start as well.
You got two rookie qbs, but they're going to be

battling it out for third and fourth as well in
their respective division if you ask me, so, I don't
know how you get coach of the Year or get
Rookie of the year depending on maybe his his performances.
But you know, it is what it is to me.
That's how I see it.

They were seven to ten last year, right, they started
off three and fourteen. Hebraflus's first year. Seven to ten
last year, which you know, you really you could look
at the job that they've done on the roster, I
think as part of the growth that you saw from
justin fields, but also around them, I mean, getting them
Dj Moore, getting him some help the offensive line plows better.

That's the big question is is the roster rate a
position around the quarterback position to be able to look
Caleb Williams could be generational. That was what the word
people throw around about him, you know, the only comp
you can really make to them. Some people, you know,
look at Rogers as far as the way you kind
of throw off platform and kind of the flick.

Some say Mahomes whatever you want to compare him to.
When you're using those two names as a comp clearly
people think he's special. And so if he is that special,
how high could he take him in his first year?
I mean, I think he could get them to a
winning record, But if you look at the division around them,
I mean Minnesota is probably going to be starting a
rookie quarterback. I think it's going to be Jaj McCarthy.

If not, it's going to be Sam Donald to start
off with. And so maybe you feel more optimistic about that.
I'm not really sure how people feel. I think Sam Donald,
with a talent they have it in Minnesota, could flow,
could really flourish, could play really well in that system.

Can Detroit replicate what they did last year? I mean
that's a team that everyone's excited about. They're excited to
watch them. Maybe this time around. You listen to guys
like Aiden Hutchison talk about getting the super Bowl now,
like like this is their year.

They feel like it's they're.

Gonna get to the you know, NFC Championship game, move on,
get the super Bowl. You know that That's that's where
they feel like they're at. And maybe they are.

Sustain that level of consistent success. So I'm not saying
they're gonna be a playoff team. I think they're going
to improve on the seven sen record. I think they
get to eight and nine, nine and eight.

Their schedule is kind of funky.

That's the only way I can put it. But it's
not the most difficult schedule. The bye comes about halfway
through the season. They start off with Tennessee at Houston,
at Indy, and then they go to La Carolina Jacksonville.
It's like spurts of home and then away because they
come out of the bye.

Play back to back like that favorable deal though kind of.

I mean, I don't know how you guys feel about that,
Like they will basically play a home game November twenty.

Fourth Carolina, but you know that, I think they might
be able to pull that.

They they play at home November twenty fourth, they don't
come back home again till December twenty second, So that's
how their schedule kind of shapes out. It's a weird,
streaky schedule, and I think sometimes it's hard when you've
got either new pieces or young pieces, when you have
to navigate a schedule like that, it's hard to get
into a rhythm when you're back to back weeks on

the road, three weeks at home, back back weeks on
the road, a couple weeks at home, it's tough to
adjust to when your first year playing.

I do think they'll be improved.

I also like how the schedule makers are like, all right,
so it's the Bear's turn to play the AFC. Sound,
how do we want to break this up. We'll give
them Tennessee Houston, Indy the first three weeks, right, that works,
and then we'll figure out everything else after that. And
then they go play overseas and they've got that buy
that you mentioned. So if they're a nine win team,
which would be an improvement over the seven from a
year ago, does that get you coach of the Year?

Like I look at it, I think Jim Harbaugh at
eleven to one is the one to watch for coach
of the year because there's more knowns than there is
in Chicago. Like we know Justin Herbert's a good quarterback.
We know that Jim Harbaugh is a good coach. We
know that last year a lot of that had to
do with the Brandon Staley debacle and the fiasco there.

Herbert got injured at some point during the season. I
look at Jim Harbaugh's being the one to watch for
a Coach of the year next year because I just
think there's more that you can count on there that
you've seen. I'm gonna go out on the on the
ledge and say I'm looking at a horrorball to be
the coach of the Year. But not not Jim. I'm
looking at John. God, you're gonna do it again. I

the favorite on DraftKings at nine to one, followed by

official within the organization. No, it's not a head coach

this time, but apparently just kind of quietly, the Panthers
VP of Player Personnel, Adriane Wilson, he has left the team.

There was no announcement, there was no anything.
Speaker 4 (20:52):
Somebody pointed out that his name was no longer shown
on the website as part of the front office. When
Pro Football Talk reached out to get confirmation on this,
the Panthers said, yeah, so he's You know, Adrian Wilson
will not continue in his position as Vice president of
player Personnel for the Carolina Panthers, consistent with our organizational

policy on employee matters. We will have no further comment.

Sure, you won't. He just got there a year ago.
I don't know, thank you, you just got there a
year ago. What the hell is going on?

Let me just give people a track record to who
aren't familiar with.

Adrian Wilson, longtime veteran player for the Cardinals forever, spent
a year in New England I think, finished in the
off season with the Bears back in twenty fourteen, but
immediately jumped back to the Cardinals organization and their front
office as a scout, has risen up the ranks, and
probably over the past four or five years, he's been

one of those names that's been one of the hot
names looking at taking that leap to becoming.
Speaker 6 (21:53):
A general manager. Has interviewed for a number of their spots.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
He's very high in a lot of people's radars in
that regard, so very very well respected, and obviously left
Arizona as the VP of scouting in his final years
there to take the opportunity to be the VP of
player personnel in Carolina. Now, what could happen between now
and then in the past year, I've got a couple thoughts.
I mean, the first would be, I don't know, imagine
(22:17):
having an owner that is so upset what they signed
at a local establishment in Carolina that he just happens
to pop in and give hell to the hostess or
the host and on top of that, make a comment
about the hat that particular individual is wearing. That's all
caught on camera, mind you? Or better yet, what was
(22:38):
if that same owner happened to throw a drink which
I forget what when you claimed it was he it
was did a Molotov cocktails?
Speaker 6 (22:43):
That s yeah, in someone's face. I imagine that it
would come.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
From an organization with that sort of ownership. So this
to me points and smells like everything to do with
David Tepper and the way he's conducted himself since he's
taken over his team, and not so much an indication
of what Adrian.

Wilson did or did not do.

He just Adrian Wilson will land on his feet somewhere
and will become a general manager one day, mark my
words on that.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
So basically, what what it sounds like is it comes
down to sometimes it's just I'm a man first, you know.
Sometimes it's just kind of like respect, respect the situation
where you allow me to act as the position that
I have, you know, and I And to me, that's

that's how I'm interpreting it. Just knowing Adrian Wilson and
knowing who he is and knowing the type of person
is that he is and the type of player that
he was. He's a warrior. And there's some people that
just you know, they're willing to handle and shoulder and
and and kind of deal with, you know what what

we'll call maybe could be distractions, could be unnecessary uh
influencing or conversations. You know, almost like if Adrian Wilson
was working for the Dallas Cowboys, right, that might not work.

You're in my air. You're not allowing me to do
what I need to do. And sometimes I was watching
what was what show was that I was watching clipped
and how the dude, the owner would would talk to
Doc Rivers at times when he come into locker room
with the fans and stuff like that and be like, well,
it's my team. You know, some people just don't really

get down like that. If you're hiring me to be
a part of your organization, to do what I can
to make your organization a better organization, allow for me
to do my job. You know, so many times we
run I won't say so many times. I just I'll
just say this, and my experience in the National Football League,
my experience right out the gate, you had someone who

was really all about flexing and really putting their their
influence on people of the decision making positions and in
the organization. Be talking about you know, little Danny, I
mean little Danny, And I just think sometimes you can
allow your sense of value and worth with your value

on worth is you're the owner of the team. You
own the team, like relax, Let let these guys do it.
You get all the credit because you hire them, Relax,
but they can't do it. And just there's some guys
out here that just don't play that type of game,
like Adrian Wilson, the type of dude be like, I'm
I'm I'm going to step down from this position. I'm

going to move on. And oh, by the way, if
you would like, after you accept my resignation, if you
would like to meet me outside in the parking lot,
I will gladly handle you outside, man to man, I'll
gladly handle the situation the way you want. We can
handle it. Like, gentlemen, we could go outside in the

of person I wouldn't mess with.

the differences and all that, like the amount of turnover

Frank Reich, whether it's Matt Ruhle, whether it's David Tepper,

whether like whoever's just come in close contact with that
organization that is not there, and it's a quick trigger.
They get rid of guys so fast. Nobody's come out
after the fact and like buryed David Temper of the organization.
Is that just all part of a keep it quiet
and we'll pay you just keep your mouth shut. Is
it is that all part of this because I'm waiting
for somebody to just say, like how bad it really

is there, and nobody's done that yet, but it's clear
to everybody on the outside it's a disaster.

Yeah, but think about I mean, what what good does
that do for you?

Professional, You're gonna have to you're yeah, professional, You're gonna
have to answer to that with another owner, whether you're
going to be another head coach interviewing for that job
or a general manager job. That doesn't benefit you, So

the future, but also in the short term.

Out whenever was out on the rest of your contract,
you don't do anything to mess that up. You don't
want to disparage or do anything that could potentially you know, yeah,
I mean harm the name of the past organization that's
paying you millions. I mean, that's what a lot of
coaches us if they feel like they're wrong, instead of
going and coaching or taking another opportunity because they might

have offsets where it'll lessen the impact that has on
their their former employer.

They'll say, no, I'm gonna set out I'm gonna make
sure those.

Guys pay me every single cent and they feel it
until they're done paying out what I was out.

Absolutely, they go do media, right, yeah, they do media stuff.
I mean, go do something that isn't in that arena
or consult right there you go. I mean, Frank Reich
basically said afterwards, yeah, I'll never coach in the NFL again.
That's it, Like you just you know, I love coaching,
love being around it. But my days in the NFL
are done. And he took whatever I think was twenty
million dollars or whatever he got, and he just kind

of bailed. Well it's not that bad of a coming back.
Yeah no, I mean, listen, take this twenty million. You know,
I'm gonna just go live my life.

had all sorts of issues. You had that weirdos in Cleveland.

Now who was there and just decided he didn't want
to be there any longer. Massage Watson, he was there
and he decided he.

And after he signed the contract extension, there was the
DeAndre Hopkins stuff like he like Houston went through all that.
It's almost like cal McNair kind of took a step
back and realized, I got to trust Ryans'.

Rating organization up until Bill O'Brien took over the GM duties.
When't we say that, Yeah, I mean he was doing
well as they were doing well as as an organization. Yeah,
I don't know what the organizational component is in Houston.
I just know that they had great success for an
extended amount of time. We're very close.

I mean they were one of them to sufficient right
like four of the seven years he was head coached there.

The one year they were spanking the Chiefs in the
playoffs and just like, let him come back.

But let them off the hook. We knew who they were.
But but the thing about it is is that that's
a team that all they needed was that belief renewed
and restored, and that that came through, that came shining
through with somebody who was a part of that success
as a player in Demiko Ryans. I look at this
Carolina Panthers situation. It's very different because while they did

have success, it was under a different owner. For one,
it was a different era in time. And you had
Cam Newton and you had Julius Peppers on one side
of you.

You had some Keithley, you had Tommy David, you had
you had who was in the backfield, D'Angelo and and
uh who was the other And then you had another
one in the backfield you I mean you had Steve Smith.

is is that they were a ricky ricky pro they
were able.

just happy. We wouldn't even I got I would play
