I'll just dote for it. So Texas, let's go. Just
go to eight people Texas, Penn State, Ois, Date, Clemson, Georgia,
Irish coming at six, Oregon at seven, Bama, LSU, Miami.

That rounds up the top ten. Arizona State, Illinois, South Carolina,
Michigan at fourteen, Florida at fifteen, SMU, Kansas State, Oklahoma
A and m Indiana, Old miss Iowa State, Texas Tech,
Tennessee at twenty four, Boise at twenty five. Alright, Brady, grievances,
(01:52):
what grievances you have in the top twenty five, the
initial top twenty five in the AP.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
Yeah, Like I kind of said or alluded to this
a little bit earlier, I think Illinois, Arizona State, you
got to see if they can replicate what they did
last year. I think it's gonna be hard to do.
You know, losing Cam Skataboo for example, for Arizona State
now a New York Giant. He just meant so much
to that team. But also the difficulty of just maintaining
what they were able to accomplish just a year ago.

It's not easy to do.

Both.
Speaker 5 (02:21):
Both teams have their quarterbacks coming back, Sam Levitt for
Arizona State and then Luke Altmeyer for Illinois, who's got
a lot of experience and a really great kid. You know,
you sit down and talk to him. But as we
discussed a concern about to me, when you go back
and look at last season. I think they had five
one score games they came out with victorious, either Ford
(02:42):
to one or going back through they might want five
and zero.
Speaker 6 (02:45):
But you know, one of my biggest.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Concerns just usually that doesn't end up being that lopsided.
You know, usually it ends up being a little bit
tighter of a split. And I think this year, you
look at their schedule, you look at you know, even
with a lot of guys coming back, I think they
got sixteen returnings starters. Bodes well, but that doesn't necessarily
mean you're gonna be able to replicate what you did
just a year ago. So we talked about that the

first part of this schedule. You know, at Duke, which
longer basketball school, man many dias done a good job
down there. You know, at Indiana, Kurse Signetti is next year.
If you got usc the following week, and then two
weeks later you got Ohio State. So those are four
really tough games right out the gate, and I'll just
be curious to see how Illinois handles it and if

they can finish out strong. But you know, going on
down through the list, I think when like one of
the things that concerns me the most for some of
these teams. Just you look at a team like Oklahoma,
they ranked eighteenth and you know, Brent Venables, it feels like,
and I don't know, maybe this is just my perception
of it, but it feels like they have not been
able to achieve at the level that obviously Bob Stoops
(03:52):
was just dominating again different Big twelve.
Speaker 6 (03:55):
Back then, we still.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
Dominating as one of the top teams, you know, and
now you fast forward to you know, they're a top
twenty team. And I'm not saying people are happy there
by any means, but I do think there's a collective
concern about whether or not Oklahoma can compete long term
in the SEC. I mean, going six and seven last
year's nowhere near you know what they you know, what

they strive for At Oklahoma. They're projected over under win
totals at six and a half right now and anything.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
I know, you're a bit of a betting man.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
I mean, if you're taking the over, you're probably saying,
I don't know, seven eight wins, like I don't.
Speaker 6 (04:29):
Know how many more you're giving them.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
There's just there's not a lot of things that make
you get super excited.
Speaker 7 (04:34):
Now.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
John Matsier is the quarterback they got the transfer portal Jade,
not a running back they've they've got. They've hit the
portal hard to try to improve their offensive talent. It's
just it's hard to make it all work in one
year's time. I think we look at some schools and
we see the success of those transfer players in that year,
and we go, yep, that's what it is. All I
gotta do is go pay for some players in the portal.
(04:55):
We'll get them to our roster and will win. It
doesn't always work that way, you know.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
And I think that that's a team that depending on
how things go this year.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
When you look at Oklahoma and some the pressure that's
on renventables and they got Michigan staring in the face
week two, yeah, you know, yeah, they fall off there.
You got Auburn in week four, it's like, all right, like,
where's this thing going? And they can find themselves in
a spot where I'm not saying they're gonna fire the guy,
but you're gonna hear some fans calling for it at
this point during his tenure.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Right, I'm completely with you.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Listen, you need to build your program and obviously you
need the portal, but the portals to accent your roster,
it's a little bit old Miss.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
I mean old Miss. That roster was last year.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
But you still can't just dive into that thing and
expect to win right away. I said, you've spent a
ton of money, like it needs to be an accent
to figure out what you're lacking. Do I need, like
Penn State, I need receivers. Sorry, I'm gonna use the
portal to go get three receivers. I got a two

great running backs, a quarterback, an O line, a defense
I've built, and then you accent it through the portal.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
And that's where I feel like there's just been too
much of like teams seeing these wholesale changes and coach
Prime I think was one of the guys who started
Lake Kippen probably doesn't get more credit for being a
guy who you know, really transformed the roster and ole Miss.
Speaker 6 (06:25):
When he got there. And there's been others, I mean
Texas Tech.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
Texas Texas a team that you know, I don't know
how much we've talked about them being a top twenty
five team in the past, or at least in preseason
polls have to go back and look and see you.
Speaker 6 (06:39):
Know how often that occurs.
Speaker 5 (06:40):
But that's a team that, look, they've got a football
alum who's a billionaire and he's not afraid to spend it. Yeah,
you know so, I mean Baron Morton's back at quarterback.
Speaker 6 (06:50):
He's a really good player.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
But they've also loaded up in the transfer portal, has
spent a ton of money.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
I mean some estimates say it's close to thirty million.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
I mean, so when you see them getting these five
star guys, these different players, you know, like a David
Bailey for example from Stanford, he was a really high,
highly recruited guy.
Speaker 6 (07:13):
He'll be an edge player for them.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
Yet you know, Terrence Carter some of these other names
you'll hear, or even Lee Hunter who was a de tackle.
You know, all these guys came in. They were the
number two you know, transfer portal class. Because they're throwing
around a ton of money. And so, you know, to
your point, there's examples of teams that have tried to
do it wholesale, but that's like a one year thing.
That's like a new coach takes over. He's got a
(07:37):
you know, curse signetty. Last year, a lot of James
Madison players probably with him to help build his culture.
But to your point, you just you can't do it,
you know, throughout the entire roster year after year. You
got to sprinkle it in supplement inn where you feel
like you've got those weaknesses. So you know, Oklahoma is
a team that I'm really curious to see what they're
gonna be this year. Oh Miss is one where you know,
Lank Kivens continually gone back to the portal. He's trying

to build back through the portal. That's a team that
I think if you just look at the difference between
a peopole and the coaches pol, the A people's got
him a twenty one coach pool has him at fifteen,
which I tend to sign more with the AP in
this case, which I thought I was for some of
these Anthony, I thought I'd sign more with the coaches.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
I think the A.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
Price, I think the AP's got this, got this right, man.
I think it's all said and done, there's gonna be
some teams that the AP's believe it in right now
that the coaches poll is a bit off on and
I don't know, I'll be curious to see how it
shakes out if.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
You believe in Miami at ten.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
I do, because I also see the upside of what
that team's capable of with the Carson Beck that I
think we saw a couple of years ago. Yeah, I'm
telling you, he's got an NFL caliber arm. He can
absolutely sling the football. The tough thing is is they
don't have a ton of returning starters, in particular on offense.
Speaker 6 (08:55):
So I mean maybe that's a good thing.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
You know, you've got Carson Beck, who's new with you
know other you know a lot of other guys are
maybe less experienced, but the right tackles a stud. He'll
probably be a first round pick next year. You know,
you got Fletcher Junior and Jordan lyon the backfield.
Speaker 6 (09:10):
CJ.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
Daniels is a really talented receiver that they're gonna lean on,
you know, heavily in the passing game. So you know,
they've got they've got some players like they got some studs.
And I think if you look at their schedule too,
it's it's not overly daunting. Again, the Week one matchup
versus Notre Dame, you know, could potentially spoil things for
them this season. I mean after that again, they got
(09:32):
a couple of layups vers Pathune Cookman.
Speaker 6 (09:34):
In South Florida.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
But you know, then they got to take on a
good Florida team at Florida State. After that, the ACC's
schedule gets a little bit harder for them. But depending
on how that Week one matchup goes. Look, let's be honest,
it usually dictates how the season goes for Miami.
Speaker 6 (09:50):
Yeah, I hate to say this.
Speaker 5 (09:51):
I mean, maybe this is just the Notre Dame guy
me coming out now we're talking about it. There are
a much a bunch of front runners. Let's be honest,
like we all know what we're dealing with. You know,
Miami's got a bunch of front runners. When the team's good,
they'll show up. As soon as they lost their out
of there, they're not. They're not showing up to the
hard Rock stadium. We all know how this goes. So unfortunately,
I think for Miami, I think Notre Dame takes care
(10:11):
of Business Week one. I think Miami's then kind of
soul searching there after that we'll see if they can
regroup and if they lose the Florida look out because this.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
Is a team that you know, it might be spun around.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
You know, it's six seven win team, not able to
fully recover after that. That that's your standard year in,
year out, you know, University of Miami team. But there's
no doubt they got talent. It's just can they be
a team. Can they can they play all together?
Speaker 6 (10:35):
And can they not? Which last year? Yeah, it was
it was bad.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Were leaking points, yards.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
And they got only five returning starters. And sometimes you say, like,
maybe that's a good thing that.
Speaker 6 (10:47):
The defense is that bad?
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Right right, my god?
Speaker 3 (10:51):
All right, let me ask you about the Irish, because
the Irish come in number six. Are they a national
championship caliber team?
Speaker 6 (11:03):
Look?
Speaker 5 (11:03):
Everyone, if I say yes, is gonna say it's because
I'm a homer and and everything that. But but I
will say this about Notre Dame and I noticed this.
I went when they played Navy over in Ireland, which
I don't know any Have you ever been over to Ireland? No,
And I'm dying to go.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I friends of mine that lived there and the family,
Oh my god.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
You gotta go for one of these like early season games.
I forget who's playing it this year. I think it's like,
I don't know if it's Minnesota, Who's playing, but next
year it's it's TCU versus Iowa State, I think. But
it is one of the coolest things to witness because
just you know, the the entire you you're in double
in the entire place just opens up their arms.
Speaker 6 (11:46):
Everyone's drinking and everyone's having a great time. They're all
on the streets. It's awesome.
Speaker 5 (11:49):
It's just an awesome, awesome scene. But what I took
from that week when we were there and our producer
lead to Lap was there, I'm not sure he was
paying attention.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Given this by the way, Iowa State, there you go,
there you go, Kent State, Iowa State.
Speaker 6 (12:04):
I'm not sure Lee was paying attention.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
But when we got down on the field, I was
looking at the players. It was like, holy cow, Like
I can't get over just the entire foster, how tall,
how big, how long an athletic they are. I mean,
you know, you look for simple things, but it's so noticeable.
But when I travel around for Big New Kickoff and
(12:26):
you see each each week, whether it's you know, Ohio State,
you know Penn State, Oklahoma, Texas, all these all these
big power teams you look at you look at them
and they just they look the part. You know what
I'm saying, And I would say like when I was
there in the early two thousands, we had guys who
looked the part of guys who played the part, but
you know it was sprinkled in.
Speaker 6 (12:47):
It wasn't like what it is now.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
You know, whereas you look at that offensive line, you go,
holy cow, every one of those guys is playing on Sundays. Like,
every one of those guys, there's no there's no doubt
there'll be a you know, top mid tier, you know
pick but they're all playing. You know, just every single
group you go through, you watch, you go. They're talented, man.
So I really do feel like if they get through
the first two games, they'll go undefeat it. Like their
(13:11):
schedule sets up extremely well. I mean, hell, they got
to buy before I am. Yeah, so depending on what happens
week one, good or bad, you know, even if they
ended up eleven to one, like you're looking your wounds,
all right, let's figure this out, but let's go you
know through the bye week, improve and you're playing texts
A and M at home for your home opener. You know,
if there was any concern over the past couple of
years because they lost. You know, their home opener two
(13:32):
years in a row, the Marshall two years ago, Northern
ILLINOI last year. Now I look at it and go, well,
those are max schools. Maybe you didn't feel like you
get up for it, or I should say group of five.
Maybe you didn't feel like you got up for them
quite as much. And there's no doubt about that. You're
going to be up for a game versus an SEC
opponent like TEXTA and M, so that won't be in
question I think this time around. But their biggest concern
(13:55):
is defensively what does it look like? Because without Golden
they blitz the crap out of you how much to
the point.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
The quarterbacks got his head spinning? And then the quarterback position.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
You know you got CJ. Carr, Kenny Minschie, you got
ten returning stars. The only spot you're concerned about is
the quarterback is not returning. And it's the first time,
you know, in a few years now where you've got
a guy who's not experienced. You know, you had Sam
Harmon two years ago from the portal, Ryley Leonard last
year from the portal. Now you've got two guys have
been there. But there'll be some growing pains, you know,
and you're gonna have to rely on the defense, relying
(14:25):
the run game, and we'll see if Notre Dame can
go can go do that. But I mean their schedule
sets up really, really well. They've got studs, you know,
as far as the wide receiver position, running back position,
tight end, the whole thing.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
I mean, they've really got it all.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
They've got guys coming back last year who contributed on defense,
that got hurt, that got banged up. That team was
you know, limping at in spots getting to the National
Championship game.
Speaker 6 (14:50):
They still were able to get there. So it sets
up really well for them.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
It's a very top heavy schedule with the those two
games I mentioned, and even going to Arkans it would is.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Better because it gives you a whole you know, kind
of back half of the season to get into a
rhythm offensively with a young y.
Speaker 6 (15:10):
Yeah yeah, yeah, I know.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
I mean I think and you know, again, not put
too much pressure on them to have to win those games,
but he's gonna have to make some plays to win
those games, you know, Like I'm not saying he's got
to either have to rest on the arm of Kenny
minsch you or CJ. Carr, But they're at times they're
gonna have to make throws to win it. So you
got some time to build up to some of those games.
But it'll be interesting. Like I said, it always has
(15:32):
been like that. You can go back to the past
couple of seasons. You know, I really thought last year
they could go undefeated, and once I saw them kind
of get into the schedule a little bit, saw some
of the teams they're playing with, Florida State down, USC down,
I thought also to be a cupcake. Well then the
North Northern Illinois game happens, So you know, you can
never take stuff for granted in college football.

It's one of the things that.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Makes it so great is you know there are those surprises,
there are those upsets, and that doesn't elude anyone, especially
when we're talking about preseason rankings where we really don't
know how good some of these teams are until they
start playing real games.

By the way, Notre Dame landed a kid from my area.
He'll be there next year. Joey O'Brien. He oh yeah,
he's super fall right, Yes, six' five corner and.
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Receiver yeah, yeah at that at that.

Height you think he'd be a, receiver, RIGHT i mean,
no but he's got great.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Hips he can.

Know the kid is legit, athlete great apps could, play
he could play defensive.

Back when when someone told me about this, kick BECAUSE
i was, like, wait how? Tall like that's What i'm
talking about as far as, LENGTH i, mean you look
At Leonard, moore the outstanding true freshman last year For Notre.
Dame in the cornerback you, know now a guy's projected
to be a Preseason All. American he's one of the
best cornerbacks in the. Country he's a six foot plus. Guy,
like if there's been one change over the period of

time WHEN i was playing quarterback in college in THE
nfl to what the football looks like, now it's all
those cornerbacks are so much, longer, Yea and it makes
IT i can't explain to. People And Pete carroll does
a good job of explaining this because, he to, me
was first that really started that trend In. Seattle he
(17:16):
had guys like that a little bit At Southern. Cow
but you know those. Guys if you think about the
perspective of a, quarterback you know you're looking at that
guy who's running deep.

Downfield when you.

Got a tall, guy that smaller guy can have a
couple of steps on. Him it doesn't look like, that
you know from back where you're. At it's hard to
tell because of the height, difference and so it looks
like it's tighter covers than it actually.

Is and then on because of his.

Length you got to throw that ball at a perfect
spot up over the top and got to hope that
your guy can have that extra burst or run to
go get it because there's not as big of a.
Window and so now all these all these kids got. It,
man it's, Crazy LIKE i mean at six,' five, YOU
know i don't know that a wide receivers getting off
the line of scrimmage if. YOU'RE jamming i mean it

was such long arms. LIKE that i mean that guy
would never be able to get open if you can run, like, yeah.

No and then they just.

Move differently, NOW yeah i, mean everything, the windows it
HURTS everything i can. Only, imagine right it's just, quarterback
now it's it's way more DIFFICULT than.

I think, you know we do, credit explaining but you

game look he did some, good things he did some,
bad things so it was it was. Pretty good but
if you're going to, go say well he should be number,
two now then you just discount everything that's gone on
from the time he was drafted to. That game and

that makes, you, Say Well kevin stefanski must be an,
Idiot Then And kevin stefanski is not, an idiot and
neither are the. Offensive COACHES so i think we get
too caught up in what happens in a preseason game
when you're playing Against guys vanilla's. SCHEME guys a lot
of those guys aren't even going to be playing anymore
after a couple of weeks and so you can't just

discount the work that's. Happened already now having, said that
if he goes and gets the work, this week impresses
with the ones, or two's and then you move them
up a, little bit then, you, say okay well let's
see what he does this week in. The GAME but
i think to just put him as the number one
or number two quarterback after one preseason game.

Is absurd, You Know anthony PETE and i have worked
together and then hl a kind of for a long.
Time now and one of THE things i Know about
pete is this is you didn't like how he came into,
the stadium.

want to ask you about some of the other ROOKIES
because i know you're a tough greater on. THESE guys
i Watched cam ward kind of felt similar. TO shador
i thought he did some. Good things there are some things,
it's like, all right, you know all the guys feel
like they're holding onto the football a little bit, too
long even like first read, timing routes not going the
ball out. Fast enough but again it, takes, time right they're. Still,

learning well what do you see From. Cam woard does
it give you any optimism or hope For the titans?

THIS season, i mean There was, you're right there were
some really good throws, in made but he held on to.
The ball, and again open IN the nfl is different than.
Opening college and you Know that brek you played. The
position you got to get used. To THAT and i
think even in a preseason game where the speed isn't
close to being what is in the regular, season game.
It's different and so you've got to you, got to,

you know turn it loose when when the guy's open IN,
the nfl it's different than being open. In college and
so you got to get to the point where you.
Understand THAT and i think right now they're looking for
wide open guys and that's why they hold. The football,
but yeah he made a couple of. Good throws, you

Yeah, Like I kind of said or alluded to this
a little bit earlier, I think Illinois, Arizona State, you
got to see if they can replicate what they did
last year. I think it's gonna be hard to do.
You know, losing Cam Skataboo for example, for Arizona State
now a New York Giant. He just meant so much
to that team. But also the difficulty of just maintaining
what they were able to accomplish just a year ago.

It's not easy to do.

Both teams have their quarterbacks coming back, Sam Levitt for
Arizona State and then Luke Altmeyer for Illinois, who's got
a lot of experience and a really great kid. You know,
you sit down and talk to him. But as we
discussed a concern about to me, when you go back
and look at last season. I think they had five
one score games they came out with victorious, either Ford

to one or going back through they might want five
and zero.

But you know, one of my biggest.

Concerns just usually that doesn't end up being that lopsided.
You know, usually it ends up being a little bit
tighter of a split. And I think this year, you
look at their schedule, you look at you know, even
with a lot of guys coming back, I think they
got sixteen returnings starters. Bodes well, but that doesn't necessarily
mean you're gonna be able to replicate what you did
just a year ago. So we talked about that the

first part of this schedule. You know, at Duke, which
longer basketball school, man many dias done a good job
down there. You know, at Indiana, Kurse Signetti is next year.
If you got usc the following week, and then two
weeks later you got Ohio State. So those are four
really tough games right out the gate, and I'll just
be curious to see how Illinois handles it and if

they can finish out strong. But you know, going on
down through the list, I think when like one of
the things that concerns me the most for some of
these teams. Just you look at a team like Oklahoma,
they ranked eighteenth and you know, Brent Venables, it feels like,
and I don't know, maybe this is just my perception
of it, but it feels like they have not been
able to achieve at the level that obviously Bob Stoops
(03:52):
was just dominating again different Big twelve.

Back then, we still.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
Dominating as one of the top teams, you know, and
now you fast forward to you know, they're a top
twenty team. And I'm not saying people are happy there
by any means, but I do think there's a collective
concern about whether or not Oklahoma can compete long term
in the SEC. I mean, going six and seven last
year's nowhere near you know what they you know, what

they strive for At Oklahoma. They're projected over under win
totals at six and a half right now and anything.

I know, you're a bit of a betting man.
Speaker 5 (04:24):
I mean, if you're taking the over, you're probably saying,
I don't know, seven eight wins, like I don't.

Know how many more you're giving them.

There's just there's not a lot of things that make
you get super excited.

John Matsier is the quarterback they got the transfer portal Jade,
not a running back they've they've got. They've hit the
portal hard to try to improve their offensive talent. It's
just it's hard to make it all work in one
year's time. I think we look at some schools and
we see the success of those transfer players in that year,
and we go, yep, that's what it is. All I
gotta do is go pay for some players in the portal.

We'll get them to our roster and will win. It
doesn't always work that way, you know.

And I think that that's a team that depending on
how things go this year.

When you look at Oklahoma and some the pressure that's
on renventables and they got Michigan staring in the face
week two, yeah, you know, yeah, they fall off there.
You got Auburn in week four, it's like, all right, like,
where's this thing going? And they can find themselves in
a spot where I'm not saying they're gonna fire the guy,
but you're gonna hear some fans calling for it at
this point during his tenure.

Listen, you need to build your program and obviously you
need the portal, but the portals to accent your roster,
it's a little bit old Miss.

expect to win right away. I said, you've spent a
ton of money, like it needs to be an accent
to figure out what you're lacking. Do I need, like

great running backs, a quarterback, an O line, a defense
I've built, and then you accent it through the portal.

And that's where I feel like there's just been too
much of like teams seeing these wholesale changes and coach
Prime I think was one of the guys who started
Lake Kippen probably doesn't get more credit for being a
guy who you know, really transformed the roster and ole Miss.

When he got there. And there's been others, I mean
Texas Tech.

Texas Texas a team that you know, I don't know
how much we've talked about them being a top twenty
five team in the past, or at least in preseason
polls have to go back and look and see you.

Know how often that occurs.

But that's a team that, look, they've got a football
alum who's a billionaire and he's not afraid to spend it. Yeah,
you know so, I mean Baron Morton's back at quarterback.

He's a really good player.

But they've also loaded up in the transfer portal, has
spent a ton of money.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
I mean some estimates say it's close to thirty million.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
I mean, so when you see them getting these five
star guys, these different players, you know, like a David
Bailey for example from Stanford, he was a really high,
highly recruited guy.

He'll be an edge player for them.
Speaker 5 (07:15):
Yet you know, Terrence Carter some of these other names
you'll hear, or even Lee Hunter who was a de tackle.
You know, all these guys came in. They were the
number two you know, transfer portal class. Because they're throwing
around a ton of money. And so, you know, to
your point, there's examples of teams that have tried to
do it wholesale, but that's like a one year thing.
That's like a new coach takes over. He's got a

you know, curse signetty. Last year, a lot of James
Madison players probably with him to help build his culture.
But to your point, you just you can't do it,
you know, throughout the entire roster year after year. You
got to sprinkle it in supplement inn where you feel
like you've got those weaknesses. So you know, Oklahoma is
a team that I'm really curious to see what they're
gonna be this year. Oh Miss is one where you know,
Lank Kivens continually gone back to the portal. He's trying

to build back through the portal. That's a team that
I think if you just look at the difference between
a peopole and the coaches pol, the A people's got
him a twenty one coach pool has him at fifteen,
which I tend to sign more with the AP in
this case, which I thought I was for some of
these Anthony, I thought I'd sign more with the coaches.

Price, I think the AP's got this, got this right, man.
I think it's all said and done, there's gonna be
some teams that the AP's believe it in right now
that the coaches poll is a bit off on and
I don't know, I'll be curious to see how it
shakes out if.

You believe in Miami at ten.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
I do, because I also see the upside of what
that team's capable of with the Carson Beck that I
think we saw a couple of years ago. Yeah, I'm
telling you, he's got an NFL caliber arm. He can
absolutely sling the football. The tough thing is is they
don't have a ton of returning starters, in particular on offense.

So I mean maybe that's a good thing.

You know, you've got Carson Beck, who's new with you
know other you know a lot of other guys are
maybe less experienced, but the right tackles a stud. He'll
probably be a first round pick next year. You know,
you got Fletcher Junior and Jordan lyon the backfield.

CJ.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
Daniels is a really talented receiver that they're gonna lean on,
you know, heavily in the passing game. So you know,
they've got they've got some players like they got some studs.
And I think if you look at their schedule too,
it's it's not overly daunting. Again, the Week one matchup
versus Notre Dame, you know, could potentially spoil things for
them this season. I mean after that again, they got

a couple of layups vers Pathune Cookman.
Speaker 6 (09:34):
In South Florida.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
But you know, then they got to take on a
good Florida team at Florida State. After that, the ACC's
schedule gets a little bit harder for them. But depending
on how that Week one matchup goes. Look, let's be honest,
it usually dictates how the season goes for Miami.

Yeah, I hate to say this.
Speaker 5 (09:51):
I mean, maybe this is just the Notre Dame guy
me coming out now we're talking about it. There are
a much a bunch of front runners. Let's be honest,
like we all know what we're dealing with. You know,
Miami's got a bunch of front runners. When the team's good,
they'll show up. As soon as they lost their out
of there, they're not. They're not showing up to the
hard Rock stadium. We all know how this goes. So unfortunately,
I think for Miami, I think Notre Dame takes care

of Business Week one. I think Miami's then kind of
soul searching there after that we'll see if they can
regroup and if they lose the Florida look out because this.

Is a team that you know, it might be spun around.

You know, it's six seven win team, not able to
fully recover after that. That that's your standard year in,
year out, you know, University of Miami team. But there's
no doubt they got talent. It's just can they be
a team. Can they can they play all together?

And can they not? Which last year? Yeah, it was
it was bad.

Were leaking points, yards.

And they got only five returning starters. And sometimes you say, like,
maybe that's a good thing that.

All right, let me ask you about the Irish, because
the Irish come in number six. Are they a national
championship caliber team?

will say this about Notre Dame and I noticed this.
I went when they played Navy over in Ireland, which
I don't know any Have you ever been over to Ireland? No,
And I'm dying to go.

I friends of mine that lived there and the family,
Oh my god.

You gotta go for one of these like early season games.
I forget who's playing it this year. I think it's like,
I don't know if it's Minnesota, Who's playing, but next
year it's it's TCU versus Iowa State, I think. But
it is one of the coolest things to witness because
just you know, the the entire you you're in double
in the entire place just opens up their arms.

Everyone's drinking and everyone's having a great time. They're all
on the streets. It's awesome.

It's just an awesome, awesome scene. But what I took
from that week when we were there and our producer
lead to Lap was there, I'm not sure he was
paying attention.

Given this by the way, Iowa State, there you go,
there you go, Kent State, Iowa State.

But when we got down on the field, I was
looking at the players. It was like, holy cow, Like
I can't get over just the entire foster, how tall,
how big, how long an athletic they are. I mean,
you know, you look for simple things, but it's so noticeable.
But when I travel around for Big New Kickoff and

you see each each week, whether it's you know, Ohio State,
you know Penn State, Oklahoma, Texas, all these all these
big power teams you look at you look at them
and they just they look the part. You know what
I'm saying, And I would say like when I was
there in the early two thousands, we had guys who
looked the part of guys who played the part, but
you know it was sprinkled in.

It wasn't like what it is now.

You know, whereas you look at that offensive line, you go,
holy cow, every one of those guys is playing on Sundays. Like,
every one of those guys, there's no there's no doubt
there'll be a you know, top mid tier, you know
pick but they're all playing. You know, just every single
group you go through, you watch, you go. They're talented, man.
So I really do feel like if they get through
the first two games, they'll go undefeat it. Like their

schedule sets up extremely well. I mean, hell, they got
to buy before I am. Yeah, so depending on what happens
week one, good or bad, you know, even if they
ended up eleven to one, like you're looking your wounds,
all right, let's figure this out, but let's go you
know through the bye week, improve and you're playing texts
A and M at home for your home opener. You know,
if there was any concern over the past couple of
years because they lost. You know, their home opener two
(13:32):
years in a row, the Marshall two years ago, Northern
ILLINOI last year. Now I look at it and go, well,
those are max schools. Maybe you didn't feel like you
get up for it, or I should say group of five.
Maybe you didn't feel like you got up for them
quite as much. And there's no doubt about that. You're
going to be up for a game versus an SEC
opponent like TEXTA and M, so that won't be in
question I think this time around. But their biggest concern
(13:55):
is defensively what does it look like? Because without Golden
they blitz the crap out of you how much to
the point.

The quarterbacks got his head spinning? And then the quarterback position.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
You know you got CJ. Carr, Kenny Minschie, you got
ten returning stars. The only spot you're concerned about is
the quarterback is not returning. And it's the first time,
you know, in a few years now where you've got
a guy who's not experienced. You know, you had Sam
Harmon two years ago from the portal, Ryley Leonard last
year from the portal. Now you've got two guys have
been there. But there'll be some growing pains, you know,
and you're gonna have to rely on the defense, relying
(14:25):
the run game, and we'll see if Notre Dame can
go can go do that. But I mean their schedule
sets up really, really well. They've got studs, you know,
as far as the wide receiver position, running back position,
tight end, the whole thing.

I mean, they've really got it all.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
They've got guys coming back last year who contributed on defense,
that got hurt, that got banged up. That team was
you know, limping at in spots getting to the National
Championship game.
Speaker 6 (14:50):
They still were able to get there. So it sets
up really well for them.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
It's a very top heavy schedule with the those two
games I mentioned, and even going to Arkans it would is.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
Better because it gives you a whole you know, kind
of back half of the season to get into a
rhythm offensively with a young y.

Yeah yeah, yeah, I know.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
I mean I think and you know, again, not put
too much pressure on them to have to win those games,
but he's gonna have to make some plays to win
those games, you know, Like I'm not saying he's got
to either have to rest on the arm of Kenny
minsch you or CJ. Carr, But they're at times they're
gonna have to make throws to win it. So you
got some time to build up to some of those games.
But it'll be interesting. Like I said, it always has

been like that. You can go back to the past
couple of seasons. You know, I really thought last year
they could go undefeated, and once I saw them kind
of get into the schedule a little bit, saw some
of the teams they're playing with, Florida State down, USC down,
I thought also to be a cupcake. Well then the
North Northern Illinois game happens, So you know, you can
never take stuff for granted in college football.

It's one of the things that.

Makes it so great is you know there are those surprises,
there are those upsets, and that doesn't elude anyone, especially
when we're talking about preseason rankings where we really don't
know how good some of these teams are until they
start playing real games.

He'll be there next year. Joey O'Brien. He oh yeah,

best cornerbacks in the. Country he's a six foot plus. Guy,
like if there's been one change over the period of

time WHEN i was playing quarterback in college in THE
nfl to what the football looks like, now it's all
those cornerbacks are so much, longer, Yea and it makes
IT i can't explain to. People And Pete carroll does
a good job of explaining this because, he to, me
was first that really started that trend In. Seattle he

had guys like that a little bit At Southern. Cow
but you know those. Guys if you think about the
perspective of a, quarterback you know you're looking at that
guy who's running deep.

couple of steps on. Him it doesn't look like, that

it give you any optimism or hope For the titans?

THIS season, i mean There was, you're right there were
some really good throws, in made but he held on to.
The ball, and again open IN the nfl is different than.
Opening college and you Know that brek you played. The
position you got to get used. To THAT and i
think even in a preseason game where the speed isn't
close to being what is in the regular, season game.
It's different and so you've got to you, got to,

you know turn it loose when when the guy's open IN,
the nfl it's different than being open. In college and
so you got to get to the point where you.
Understand THAT and i think right now they're looking for
wide open guys and that's why they hold. The football,
but yeah he made a couple of. Good throws, you
know he made a couple of decisions that were, you
know he could should have been picked off on one
play on. The sideline it was a, terrible throw. You

know and then you Go To jackson dart he did
some good things and and but again you're playing against
guys that aren't going to be in. The league you're
playing against. Vanilla. Defense is there's not a lot.

think he's a, great PASSER and i think there's concern
about HIM, and i, YOU know i had heard that
a couple of weeks ago from somebody in the league
that told me That the vikings were concerned about his

accuracy more. Than anything and if you look at his
first throw of, the game it's. A completion so you
look at the, play sheet and, you, go, oh wow
he completed a throw to. The outside, Not bad but
then you look at it and it was like a
Foot Behind jordan madison who made a great catch to
pull it in and make it, A completion and so
you look at it, and go that's. A negative And

so i'm worried about the ACCURACY of, jj McCarthy and
i think from what you hear around, the League the
vikings are a little concerned about it.

As, WELL yeah i think that's, one thing just watching
some of the snaps and watching even his. Throwing motion,
you know IT'S it's i don't want to get into dissertation,
about this but, you know nowadays they kind of teach more,
of this like kind of not, side.

Arm but it's definitely a lower.

Arm slot and the problem is you can't you got
to be still able to like articulate your, arm, high
low all these different things like. A shortstop, you know
you gotta. Make it don't have a number, of throws

future and the sooner you, play him the sooner you

the two. Of, them personally if it, WERE me i

Would play. JACKSON dark i would get on. With it
you KNOW how i feel, About. THAT brady i think
you find, the guy you draft, the guy you play,
the guy and then you get on, with it and
then you're sooner rather than later finding out if he
is your long, term answer because if, he's not then
you got to go back into it in a couple
of years and get. Another ONE so i Think The
russell wilson playing all it does is delay. The inevitable

and as a, veteran's quarterback If You're russell wilson and
you know that kids, standing there and you go out
in the field and, you have, you know a quarter of,
terrible throws and then all of a sudden you start thinking.
About it you have another quarter of. Terrible throws they
might make, a change and you know that in the
back of. Your head it's hard to play sports. That
way and THAT'S why, i, THINK ultimately I Think jackson
dart will be the starter at some point this season when,

who KNOWS but i would probably start the season with
him because of, the future not because of, this year
but because of. The.
