Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh what is going on?

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Welcome in, Happy Wednesday morning to you. Hey, Happy new Year.
Right around the corner last day at twenty twenty five,
gotta go out with a bang over here. Hey, ever
wanted to try an Olympic and Paralympic sport and maybe
this is the way you go out with the bank.
Try fencing. It's fast, safe and easy to start. Find
a beginner class near you at us fencing dot org

(00:24):
slash try fencing. That is US fencing dot org slash
try fencing. I'll tell you what if one of my
friends was like, man, I've been in a rut in
twenty twenty five. Huh you know, I'm gonna I'm gonna
change it up. I'm gonna try fencing in twenty twenty six.
I'm like, all right, let's go, man, let's go time
over here, uh Jmart.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
By the way, we're not talking about fencing TVs. We're
talking about the Olympic sport.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
That's right, that's absolutely right. I'm gonna get to AFC
trust in just a minute, right.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Is the theme of the first hour, it's kind of
the theme of the second. It's the theme of the
show Man. We're talking Yeah, that's right. But you had
a question that we didn't get to last second. So
let's let's tie off. Let's let's get that Uh, let's
check that box real quick and then.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
We'll move on.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yeah, this is an NFL question. Okay, Well, we hosted
I think it was Thanksgiving when we hosted, and this
came up. You called the Bears frauds. You didn't forget,
you said they were you said they were foogazy. Yeah,
and you made a good case, right with the schedule
and uh, the way they've won late, close games and
all this kind of stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
I was just curious. And this isn't me calling you out.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
I literally want to know if your take, if that
take has evolved based on what you've seen in the
last month, or if you're still side eyeing them a bit.
And this is kind of a trust question too, because
obviously they've won a lot of games, they played a
Game of the Year contender on Sunday Night Football.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
Clearly they're better than they were last year. I'm not
even asking that question.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
I'm just what, how are you feeling about the Bears now,
now that you've gotten a little bit more time to
watch them?

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I still feel the same way about Okay, I'll put
it this way. I like their offense even more, and
I dislike their defense even more.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Okay, and I think that's gonna be their undoing.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
You know, like, you can't, bro, you can't score thirty
eight points in a game and lose. Can't happen, And
it just did on the road against the forty nine ers.
You can't try. You can't have your offense. Hey guys,
you've scored thirty eight points. We're gonna need one more
touchdown though to win. It's like, bro, come on, defense,
you gotta do better than this. And they started off

(02:30):
the game with the pick six. They started up first
play of the game. They're up seven to nothing, and
they still gave up forty two points. Their defense cannot
stay above water without forcing turnover after turnover after turnover.
I don't trust their defense at all, Man, And you
can't walk into the playoffs, even though it's wide open
this year, it's not as wide open in the NFC,

(02:53):
I don't think. And you just can't play no defense
and expect to go anywhere. So no, I think they're
total fools, gold Man. I don't think alright.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
I was just curious if you had changed it all.
Like I said, it wasn't like a call out thing.
Yeah yeah, because I mean, obviously they've won games. I
literally just wanted to know how you felt about them
right now because we're so close to the end of
the regular season.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
How about you, what do you think of the Bears?

Speaker 4 (03:16):
I just think you call it fool's gold. I call
it house money right now. Yeah, I understand.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
I don't believe in championship windows because things can change
on a dime. And what you're seeing this year, especially
with the Bears winning so many close games, is not
something that generally translates year after year after year. But
this is better than any Bears fan could have possibly
hoped already.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Like Williams, no doubt for real.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
I mean, but like Caleb Williams was broken last year, right.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
There were people talking about him being a bust.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Everybody's talking about Jayden Daniels and all this, and like,
all he's done is come back and been a whole
lot more like the Caleb that you liked in college.
He's still yeah, there's some thing where you still want
to see him be more consistent, but he's doing less
of the stuff that used to truly irritate you holding
the ball too long and some of the things that
he was doing. He's being smarter with the ball. He's

(04:11):
got a decent chemistry, I think with his receivers. And look,
I mean considering what the Lions were and then you
take their OC and you're sitting there about to win
that division, which coming into the year was maybe going
to be the most competitive division in football, even though
you didn't know what you were gonna get with JJ McCarthy.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
In year one. You know what O'Connell is as a coach,
and you know what kind.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
Of weapons they had on that team. The Packers, even
though I've never been a giant Jordan love guy Lafleur's
done a lot of really good things there. You then
go get Micah Parsons at the trade deadline, and then
the Lions were my pick in the NFC to go
face the Ravens in the super Bowl, and it's the
freaking Chicago Bears. They're gonna win that division before. They

(04:59):
don't even have to do anything this week to win that.
It's incredible to me.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah, it really is wild how it went down. And listen,
the Bears are well ahead of schedule. They've done a
lot of great things, but man, you just you gotta
be realistic about what's gonna happen in the playoffs when
they don't play defense. They've won six games with come
from behind wins in the final two minutes.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
Yeah, that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
That's crazy, and that's great. Hats off to them.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
They've done it with some great play They've done it
with some flukey plays, right, but they recovered an on
side kick against the Packers. Nobody recovers on sidekicks. So
there's been some weird stuff that just is unsustainable. And
that's how I look at the Bears man, heading into
the playoffs. A lot of their formula for success is
totally unsustainable. So no, I haven't readjusted. I don't think

(05:51):
there's a need to readjust on the Bears. I think
they're total frauds in terms of like they're gonna have
great playoffs success in your one of the bench regime.
I just don't think they are. Man, I don't think
they have the goods too.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
All Right, how about the AFC.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
If we turn our attention to trust in the AFC,
who baby, we got the playoff field set? Well almost
we don't know if it's going to be the Steelers
or the Ravens, but the other six teams we have
set so as of now. When you go through the
list and you're like, do you trust the Broncos? Do
you trust the Patriots? Do you trust the Jags, the Taxi?
Who do you trust? In the AFC? If anybody?

Speaker 4 (06:29):
I have a hard time saying anybody Like I.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Originally the trust question that I had thought about was
just like, at this point in the season, I feel
like I.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Should know who you are as a football team.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Yeah, And there are multiple examples in the AFC where
I just don't have an answer to that. And to me,
the team that exemplifies that the most is the Chargers. Okay,
I have zero clue what I think about the Chargers,
like I know what I think I think about Justin Herbert,

(07:04):
even though I've seen that go south in the playoffs.
I don't know about the defense from week to week.
Most of the time when they go into games, I'll
look at it and I'll say, I don't know if
they're gonna win or lose this game. And the ones
that I think they're gonna win, they lose. And the
ones that they lose, I think they're gonna win. Like,
I just have no clue from week to week what

(07:25):
they are. They're eleven to five, They've won some games, obviously,
but I just they strike me as a team that
gets into the playoffs gets beat immediately again, and we're
having the exact same discussion about what they are next year.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
And I just I just I don't know, like they're.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Like I said, all the teams that you just mentioned,
I don't know what to make of I know what.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
To make of Pittsburgh at Baltimore.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Neither one of them is very good, even though one
of them is going to get to the playoffs. I'm
a Broncos fan, as you know. I don't know that
I trust our offense.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
For four quarters.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
I've seen bo do some really awesome stuff this year,
and then I've seen them get conservative in a way
that makes me think Sean Payton doesn't trust him. Sure
at times. The Patriots, they're still so new to this thing.
This dig story is no good, that's right, yeah at all.
Drake May has been phenomenal. I think that both Henderson

(08:22):
and Stevenson have given them some things this year. I
like both their tight ends. I like a lot of
what they're doing. I love Mike Rabel as a head coach,
loved him when he was here for the most part
in Tennessee. I think he's been extraordinary for them, but
they haven't been here before in this spot. And then Jacksonville.
Jacksonville is the Bears of the AFC. Basically nobody talks

(08:44):
about Liam Cohen, but Trevor Lawrence was nearly broken. Yeah,
and that team last.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Year was nearly broken.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
And they come in and they've won twelve games now,
they haven't played a insane schedule, and they've been in
a weird division. And the same thing is the true
with Houston. Houston. The only reason I say I kind
of trust Houston more than some of these teams is
because that defense is straight up legit. They are legit.
Demko Ryans knows exactly what he's doing there. I trust

(09:13):
their defense more than I trust Denver's defense, even though
both of them obviously can can do a lot to you.
It's just I've seen some good things out of CJ. Stroud,
more good things out of him than I have out
of Denver. So I actually think Houston's gonna be the
team that's gonna be really difficult to deal with. And yes,
I have not mentioned the Buffalo pills yet. Yeah, because

(09:34):
I just don't care until we get to the playoffs.
I already know Josh Allen's good. I said before the season, Brian,
if they go seventeen.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
To oh, it's not going to matter.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Everything about their future rests on what happens in this postseason.
I don't need to hear about how good they are
in the regular season. We already know all of this.
Get it done in the playoffs, or maybe find a
new head coach.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
You know what's funny to me is when we look
at the Patriots, I push back on a lot of
the criticism of the Patriots, the reasons to doubt the Patriots.
People just point to their schedule and it's been a
cake schedule. I'm not disputing that it's been the most
favorable schedule since the ninety nine Rams in terms of

(10:22):
opponent winning percentage, right. And it's what's funny to me
is for all these people that are like, oh, the
Patriots are just beating up on bum teams, what happened
in nineteen ninety nine?

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Do we remember the ninety believe the Rams went to
the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
They won it all. They won a Super Bowl. Man.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
So I look at the Patriots formula and I ask myself,
is their formula for success sustainable? Could they carry what
they've done from the regular season and all their wins
into the postseason and win some games? And I say, yes,
they're absolutely capable of doing that. They've got a good defense,
you've got a really good head coach. You've got an

(11:01):
excellent quarterback who's an MVP candidate. He's the front runner,
he might win MVP this season. So when you've got
that and you bring it to the table, I don't
care that you've beaten up on mostly bum teams. That
formula means to me that you're more than capable of
beating good teams come playoff time. I wouldn't just evaluate

(11:22):
them solely on an easy schedule, as if that's all
they bring to the table. That is not the truth
at all about the Patriots. And I just love that
where it's like, oh, easiest schedule since.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
The ninety nine Rams.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
By the way, fine print Rams won a championship that season,
So let's not count up the Patriots so fast. That's,
at least in my book, I think the I think
very highly of the Patriots.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
I like them a lot.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
Yeah, look, I don't disagree with you. Again. My only
thing there.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
Is this group together, no doubt and no doubt. You've
got a quarterback that's just inexperienced in this spot, right,
and that's that's really it.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
And Rabel Rabels.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
Had better regular seasons than he has postseasons, like now
he's made he made a conference championship game, got beaten
by the Chiefs that year. You know, they have beaten
some teams into playoffs as well, like they beat Baltimore
in Baltimore a year where didn't think that was gonna happen.
Of course, famously beat Brady in Foxborough. But I also
saw him as a number one seed loose to Joe

(12:23):
Burrow here at home in Nashville in a situation where
they had never been in that spot, and you know,
they just weren't able to hold up there. But looking
at the rest of the AFC, I agree with your case, Like,
if it's not just it's a little too much too soon,
yeah for them, then there's no reason to think that
they can't beat everybody else in that conference if they

(12:46):
had to.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
You we probably could have said the same thing about
the ninety nine Rams.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
You know, like, yeah, that's true.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
What playoff success? What great tests did they have before that?

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Like you had Trent Green go down, you had this
guy Kurt Warner come in, and you're like, like, who
the hell is this guy?

Speaker 3 (13:01):
Well, listen, man, Kurt Warner was a consensus number one
overall draft pick.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
Everyone. He was a household name. He was like Lebron
James of football. Oh wait, no, he was the exact rush.
It's all right.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Yeah, he was stocking grocery shelves and playing in the
Arena League and we're like, I'll never forget Dick for
Meal crying, and it's like, we will rally and we
will play good football around Kurt Warner. And it's like, okay, coach,
good luck with that. And that's exactly what they did.

Speaker 5 (13:31):
Man.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
So like it's been done before, I think it could
be done again. And when it's so wide open in
the AFC, that's the thing I get it. If it's like, oh, man,
you've got the upstart Patriots and we've got Mahomes and
the Chiefs. We've got Burrow in the Bengals, we've got
a fully stacked Lamar and the Ravens team ready to
go healthy. He's been phenomenal. He's coming off his third MVP. Like,

(13:55):
it's not like that at all. Like the landscape is there,
it is there for the taking for a team like
the Patriots.

Speaker 4 (14:02):
So do you think they're coming out of the conference.
I do.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
That's who I've picked out of the AFC. I have
said that a few weeks ago and I'm sticking with it. Man,
I like that team a lot. I think they're being
sold short, and that's one thing that I love, especially
for a Mike Vrabel coach team. Yes, I love that
they're being doubted by almost everybody.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Oh my gosh, that is perfect for them heading into
this thing.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
So is Sean McDermott the coach in Buffalo next year? Man,
if you're right.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
I uh, he very well might not be, because it's
not only that they lose.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
It could be on top of how did they lose.
And I don't think.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
He's done a bad job, but I can totally see
that regime saying hey man, we've tried it and tried
it and tried it. This was the year, this was
go time for us. The landscape was wide open and
we still didn't make it.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
So it's always.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
Been the Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
It's always been the Chiefs, that's right. So now the
Chiefs are out I know it or something right like yeah,
like you have to do it. And like if it's
the Patriots especially, it's like you're telling me, Mahomes didn't
make the playoffs and we got another AFC East team
that's in the super Bowl and it's not us. I

(15:13):
think if Buffalo is not at least in the super Bowl,
you gotta.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
Make a change. Yeah, you have to make a change.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
I hear you.

Speaker 2 (15:21):
I've got a quick question for you in just a second. Hey,
it's Brian No. Sesame Street helped raise all of us.
Now it's our turn donate this holiday season at sesame
dot org because the world needs Sesame and Sesame needs you.
All Right, Now, here's my question. What do you trust
more this tam of trust that we have? Right? Do
you trust going into the playoffs a team with a

(15:43):
shaky offense or a shaky defense?

Speaker 4 (15:47):
Right?

Speaker 2 (15:47):
You think about a team like the Bears shaky defense.
Think about a team like the Texans excellent defense, but
real shaky offensive line, shaky running game. Which do you
trust more when you go team by team, are you like, Ugh,
shaky offense can't do it? Or is it shaky defense?
I just can't pull the trigger on that team. Which
is it for you?

Speaker 4 (16:10):
I didn't know if you were teasing for the next segment,
I would.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Say, I think I trust a team with a shaky
offense more because I've just I've watched football my entire life,
and I don't think that.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
It has changed.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Defenses can score touchdowns, yeah, they can force turnovers and
give shaky offenses a short field. And to me, like,
I just I feel like the Texans are going to
be difficult to deal with because it's going to be
a struggle to get two touchdowns on them, like to
get fourteen points on that defense. So you're not asking CJ.
Stroud to go put up fifty to win a game.

(16:49):
I just think you can overcome a bad offense with
a great defense easier than you can try to go
in these shootouts and outscore teams with a defense that's
basically Ondola defense.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Yeah, now, fair enough.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
I'm pretty much where you are too, and listen, I
think it takes balance to win championships.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
I don't agree that defense wins. I think balance wins championships.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
You can't just have a god awful offense and an
electric defense and sniff a super Bowl. You got to
have some balance. That's what truly wins. But if it's
you know, like look at the Bears, look at the Niners.
When you have no pass rush in the Niners, when
you can't, you're giving up yards left and right. You
can only force takeaways. As the Bears defense, I just

(17:35):
can't back you. I cannot back those teams. And the
interesting part is if you're the Texans, if you get
a lead, I love you. If you're trailing, gosh, I
don't like that spot at all. Right, Like, so yeah,
it's gonna be really interesting come playoff time.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
I can't wait for it.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
All right.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
He's Jason Martin, I'm Brian know. We're in for Two

Speaker 2 (18:56):
I was doing my impression there, like the music's playing
and I started singing the chorus as Coolio and I'm like, wait,
Coolio doesn't sing the chorus.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
It's the other guy.

Speaker 2 (19:05):
It's more soulful, been living most all live right, Like.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
You gotta put your chest into it. Jmore.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
I'm not a singer at all, but as you can
probably you could have fooled me with that.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Yeah, well, thank you. I appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Hey feeding off the success of our college basketball bracket

For your chance to win one thousand dollars.

Visit Fox Sports Radio dot iHeart dot com to register,
get rules, and fill out your bracket. You gotta fill

Speaker 1 (19:55):
It's got to be done.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
Yead's gotta be done by seven thirty pm Eastern today
day Again. Fill out your bracket at Fox Sports Radio
dot iHeart dot com for your chance to win one

Fade Bama. If you got Bama moving on, it's probably
a bad bracket right there. I think it's a bad choice.
It's supposed to rain like crazy. You know, we got Loraina,

(20:18):
we got Coop over there in La. It's supposed to
rain like crazy. Is it not like Pasadena? Like the
weather report. It looks like rain all day? Is that
what we're looking at here?

Speaker 4 (20:29):
I heard such things, but it wasn't wet last time
I walked outside.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
Yeah, man, Jason, if it's raining.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Yeah, and Alabama is a great running team, yeah, many times, but.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Not this year.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Nope, not this year. We need mark Ingram back there.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
We need Derek Henry back there, like they they're not
walking through that door, man.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
Yeah, Anie Lacy, just.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Anyone who chucks Killer Dame in twenty twelve, you know,
like this shit, those gids.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Oh that was so ugly. Man, I still really know
pars of that game. Gosh.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
All right, So I mentioned that it's like a parent
that has absolutely no authority over their kids.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
I'm wondering where you want to Like, I'm wondering where
you're going with this. Yeah, Like I was thinking about
during the break, I was like, I wonder if I
could guess this. So I definitely have one in mind. Okay,
I'm wondering, Yeah, what do you have?

Speaker 2 (21:19):
JJ Reddick, It's not I'm going to mostly college basketball
and it's what John Calaperry is talking.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
The rant, Yeah, the rant was unbelievable. So many things
in this rant.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
It's two parts because it's way too long of a
SoundBite just combined as one. But you can tell what
cali Perry's talking about now. A portion of this is
we saw a guy who was drafted in twenty twenty three,
drafted in the NBA and he was just granted four
years of eligibility. This guy, James Naji, He's going back

(21:56):
to Baylor. He was drafted in twenty twenty three. He
never reached the NBA or the G League. So college basketball,
the NCAA is like, come on back, buddy, And so
a coach like John Caliperi is like, what are we
doing right now? This is like a grown man. Are
we going to have G leaguers? Are we going to
have European dudes that are like twenty five years old

(22:17):
playing in college basketball now? So that's the first part
of the rant is like the kids coming back to
college basketball.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
Check us out epic rant.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
Real simple.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
The rules.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
These the rules.

Speaker 5 (22:31):
So if you put your name in the draft, I
don't care if you're from Russia and you stay in
the draft, you can't play college basketball. Well that's only
for American kids. What if your name is in that
draft and you got drafted, you can't play cup because
that's our rule. Yeah, but that's only for American kids. Okay, Okay,

(22:53):
Now here's the next lawsuit. Well, we don't have a
say over European player. You do if they're playing in
college basketball. So that means you don't have a say
over high school kids. So whatever a high school kid
does before he comes here, don't you do one thing
because there's a suit, Because what you're saying is, if

(23:14):
he's in Europe, we don't have the same rules. What
if he puts his name in the draft, can't go
to college?

Speaker 2 (23:23):
Yeah, that's the first part of it. What do you
think about that, Jason? You agree with them?

Speaker 4 (23:28):
I mean college sports right now is kind of I
wouldn't even say it's a ruttle list. It's captain lest.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Like somebody's got to show up and say I'm the captain. Now,
that's right, that's right, And we don't have it.

Speaker 4 (23:40):
We don't have it in college football. We don't have
it in college basketball.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
I have a you know, like cal Perry has always
known the rules because he's used them to his advantage
quite a bit. The one and done, for example, a
Kentucky and all this other kind of stuff, And that's
not a negative. I'm just saying that he's always been
somebody who has been able to find what he can
to get a leg up, to get an advantage, like
most good coaches would. I can't disagree with him too

(24:07):
much because there it's not even that the inmates are
running the asylum.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
There's no doors on the asylum.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
Yeah, like you're just in there voluntarily, like if you're
following every rule that's on you, because almost nobody else is.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
Because no, there's no enforcement mechanisms.

Speaker 1 (24:26):
I know it.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
And at this.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Point it just feels like, all right, if we're not
gonna enforce this rule, what exactly are we doing? Like
we're just gonna find dudes at the rec league and
just put them on the floor. This student Goggles just
had forty couldn't miss from three. I'm gonna go ahead
and put him in for a couple minutes at the
end of the game. I don't know if he's gone
to college or not.

Speaker 4 (24:46):
Who cares.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
Like at this point, like, stop calling it college sports.
It's just sports. Like, come up with another name for it.
There's nothing like all of it is crazy to me.
Back to Baylor is not back to cal either. Like
just at this stage, it's just it's mind boggling to me.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
I can understand his frustration because there is no consistency
in anything that is happening.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
Yeah, it's really like the NC double A is just
like a parent that has no authority where it really
it's the kids that are like, I'm gonna come back
to college, and the NC double A is like, all right,
that sort of sounds like a lawsuit if we say no,
so okay. It really would be like a parent that's like,
now go to bed, and the kids like, yeah, I

(25:33):
don't want to go to bed, and I'm gonna eat
some ice cream too.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
So there's that and the figure.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
We have violations of like Terrell prior, like getting a tattoo.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
Right, I know it selling their they're like the gold
pants that they get for like the Ohio State guys.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Yeah, hey, like they.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Get these little gold pants for beating Michigan. They sold those,
and that's a gigantic no noe. Like some of the
little tiny things from the past, like the cheeseburgers off
and it seems like such small potatoes.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
They like a fine toothed comb. They would nail you
for any tiny thing.

Speaker 4 (26:09):
It was. They were mall cops.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Yeah, and now it's just anything goes man. It is
the wild wild West. And this is the other part
of the rant. So we're talking about eligibility. Now this
is a little over a minute. I think it's really good.
So check it out from Coach cal.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
The other thing.

Speaker 5 (26:25):
The eligibility again, real simple. You got five years to
play four If you stay at the same school.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
Four years, we'll give you a fifth year.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
If your coach leaves or is fired, you can transfer
without penalty.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
You can do it once, and.

Speaker 5 (26:48):
If the coach is fired or leaves, you can end
up doing it twice.

Speaker 4 (26:52):
But after that you got to sit out. You transfer,
but you gotta sit out.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
Does anybody care what this is doing for seventeen an
eighteen year old American kids? Do you know what this
opportunity has done for them and their families? There aren't
gonna be any high school kids who other than dumb
people like me are gonna recruit high school kids. I
get so much satisfaction out of coaching young kids and

(27:18):
seeing them grow and make it and their family life
changes that I'm gonna keep doing it. But why would
anybody else If you can get NBA players, G League players,
guys that are twenty eight years old, guys from Europe. Look,
Tommy is old, Mark few. There are a bunch of
us that are just we got no rules.

Speaker 1 (27:41):
Yeah, that's the thing.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
These coaches are just like, bro, what are the rules
exactly here? And he's right, Coach cal is absolutely right.
We're supposed to be College sports is supposed to be
about kids coming from high school, going to college, growing, trying.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
To make it to the end.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
But if they don't getting an opportunity growing, Like, we
shouldn't be turning college basketball into the G League, right, Like,
if you get drafted in the NBA, Bro, you don't
belong in college anymore. Go somewhere else. If you get
a hack it in the NBA or the G League,
go overseas. But it can't be in college hoops because
he's right, the eighteen to nineteen year old kids, they're

(28:22):
paying the price if we're allowing G leaguers, NBA draftees,
European dudes who are like in their twenties, Like, what
are we doing right now with college sports?

Speaker 1 (28:32):
That's not what it should be.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
Yeah, listen, I.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Think that this is the reason why Jay Wright is out,
This is the reason why Nick Saban stepped aside. This
is the reason we're going to continue to see more
guys try to go to the pros from college than
the other way around, because even though look, owners can
be fickle and you can lose a job pretty quickly

(28:57):
in the NFL, college just seems like in terms of
what goes into it, I'm not talking about the on
the floor stuff. That's the easy stuff. Practice, that's the
easy stuff. The tough stuff is the recruiting, the portal,
this kind of stuff, the inconsistency in how the rules
are applied from case to case and whether or not
the rules have any teeth whatsoever. Like and he's the

(29:21):
guys he's mentioned in guys like Few and is Oh
and himself and all this, like they were around for
the system change, they were around for what it used
to look like, and they were even around most of
them before the previous system when it was also being
done another way. Even from there, we have gotten so
far away from what college athletics used to be.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
And this is not a don't pay the player's argument.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
This is simply a I don't know what we have here,
and I don't.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
Think these coaches do either.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
And I think at some point it's just like, man,
I've won a couple of championships at Villanova. I'm good
on TV. I'm just gonna do this. It's just a
different and an easier life like cal be all some
on TV. I think the reason he's at Arkansas it's
because he loves coaching basketball.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
I truely do.

Speaker 3 (30:05):
And I felt happy for him when he left Kentucky
because yeah, Arkansas cares, but nobody cares quite like Kentucky cares.
And so he goes to Arkansas. He stays in the conference,
and he's in a little bit of a less pressure
packed environment where he can just coach basketball, which is
what he wants to do.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
But the job is so much more now than that.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
And if we're looking at all the inconsistency, even from
what's happening overseas to what's happening here, and we can
bring in guys from the G League, or we can
bring in guys who are semi pro as opposed to
looking at high schoolers and how that's going to affect
Like a lot of things have unintended consequences or a
lot of things have consequences you could see coming if

(30:47):
you actually stopped and thought about it before you made rash,
kind of impulsive decisions. And it just felt like when
college sports exploded, it exploded so fast and there was
nobody there to kind of put the brain on it
or even put some kind of fence around it enough
to wear. Okay, well let's keep things sane here. Yeah,
you said the Wild West. To me, it's just pure insanity.

(31:10):
Like doesn't mean that.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
The product isn't fun to watch or anything like that.
It just means that I don't know. Sometime I don't
even know the rules.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
I know, it.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
Seems like day by day something happens. I'm like, wait,
that's that's the rule. Like I know, I have no idea,
so I can't even imagine from a coach's perspective, trying.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
To keep up.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
And that's what these guys are saying coach cal Matt
Painter at Purdue, tom Izzo at Michigan State.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
They're like, what exactly are the rules?

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Like what are they think about the rules of I
don't know, say, like a football game, all right, you
get six points for a touchdown, you get three points
for a field, go so forth and so on. It's
like everything that you've known has changed and it's just ambiguous.
It's like a touchdown might be worth anywhere from like
five to eight points to It's like, wait a minute,

(31:59):
how much is a touchdown worth?

Speaker 1 (32:01):
What are the rules? What are we looking at here?

Speaker 2 (32:04):
And that's what these college coaches are saying. And you
made a great point, especially with what they've known. Some
of these guys been around forever. Coach Cow's been around forever,
Tom Izzo's been around forever. Think about previous installments of
what the rules were, how you had to abide by
the rules, how you would get smacked if you didn't
abide by the rules, and now it's completely flipped on

(32:26):
its head. That's the wild thing, man, is we just
got to have some better structure to this thing. Where
take football for instance, what if a guy gets drafted
by an NFL team, then he gets cut like he's
a fourth round, fifth round guy, he doesn't make it,
and then he's like, I'm just gonna go back to college.

(32:47):
What are we doing here? Like no, your your eligibility's gone. Man,
you're a pro now, Like go away. I don't know
what it is with the NCAA just having a complete
lack of a backbone. It's like we talk about Adams
over the NBA commissioner with like he's spineless. He looks
like the terminator compared to the NC DOUBLEA right now,

(33:07):
the NC DOUBLEA has no sign of a spine.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
There is no pushback.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
If you come at him, like, hey, if you don't
let this guy play, we're coming after you. They're like,
oh right, he can play. Like they just freak out, man,
and they run for the hills.

Speaker 6 (33:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
I mean again, I think that maybe they just The
most kind of disconcerting or concerning thing is just not
only is are these coaches saying what are the rules?
It's like, which ones do we actually have to follow?
Because this is a rule? You just told me this
is a rule. Well, here's what's happening over here at
Oklahoma State. I just threw that out there.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
I'm not saying.

Speaker 3 (33:41):
Oklahoma States anything, but it's like, from case to case
the rules seem to be applied, enforced, or just completely ignored.
And so that's it's like, is there a rule book
in which something actually results in.

Speaker 4 (33:56):
A violation right right?

Speaker 3 (33:58):
Or basically is it a rule until it becomes an issue,
at which point it's no longer a rule.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
That's right, Like, imagine, and we go back to the
parent kid thing.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
Right.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
Imagine if you're a kid and you've got three brothers
and sisters and your parents have all these rules, right,
you got to do your homework, you gotta go to
bed by eight o'clock whatever, And all of a sudden,
your three other brothers and sisters they're not following anything
and they're not getting punished at all.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
It's like, what are you gonna do?

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Are you gonna follow the rules or are you just gonna
misbehave without any punishment and any structure to begin, Like,
you're probably gonna misbehave also and not follow the rules
like they're getting away with it.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Why wouldn't I eat ice cream before?

Speaker 4 (34:38):
Bet?

Speaker 2 (34:38):
That sounds awesome. So that's where we're at right now.

All right, ja mart, First things first, and we'll get
to our college football playoff predictions here rapid fire style.
But the Chargers are going to be resting this Sunday.
They're not gonna play their starters, not gonna play Justin Herbert,
their main guys against the Broncos. They're gonna rest up,

(36:40):
get ready for the playoffs. The other LA team, the
LA Rams, they're doing the opposite. Sean McVay said, Oh,
we're playing our starters. We're gonna go We're gonna try
to play our best football heading into the playoffs, right like,
get on the right track. And they're also trying to
get the five seed. They want to face whoever comes
out of the wreck that is the NFC side, So

(37:01):
they're trying to get up and get that five seed.
Look their opposite approaches, I think they make sense for
both teams like the Rams got to play a lot better.
There's real value in being the five seed, and the
Chargers are beaten up man like Herbert's got a broken
hand that he just had surgically repaired. I totally understand
why they're not playing against the Broncos. So I think
both approaches work for each team.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
Yeah, I mean, I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
I think that when it comes to the Chargers, you
definitely want a healthy Herbert or you've got no shot.
And you look at kind of the opposition there. I
don't know what you think the difference is between this
opponent and that opponent. It's different when you look at
do I want to play Carolina or do I want
to play Philadelphia who beat me last year? If I'm

(37:48):
the Rams, So I think there's something to be said
for that as well. And I mean the Rams are
always already gonna have it tough because they can't win
the division and so they're going to have to keep
going on the road. Biggest question mark for the Rams
is can they reach the Super Bowl by having to
do it through road games? Because they're a much better team,

(38:09):
at least to me just watching them the eye test.
They're just far better on their own field, and they're
just not going to have the opportunity.

Speaker 4 (38:15):
To see that.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
Okay, let's go super rapid fire with the four college
football playoff games. Get one today, three tomorrow. Hey, Loraina,
this is sort of like a pop quiz. I need
sort of like intense background music. It doesn't even have
to be that intense, just something like with playoffs on
the line. You know, no words hit us with something.

(38:39):
Oh man, that is intense?

Speaker 1 (38:41):
Right there? Are you kidding me? Alright, let's go all
right now, either outright or with the point spread. You choose,
j Mart, you go for it.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
What we got Miami against Ohio State Ohio State minus
nine and a half?

Speaker 4 (38:52):
What do you have Ohio State?

Speaker 1 (38:53):
Outright?

Speaker 3 (38:54):
Ohio State covers wins by over two touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
I love Miami plus nine and a half.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
I would even sprinkle a little bit on the on
the money line. And I'm pulling the shaker right here.
Very talented team, so I could see it happening, even
though I one of us like or Beck like, yeah,
we're going ahead to ed all right, Oregon Texas Tech.
We've got Oregon minus two and a half in this one.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
What do you have I think Oregon covers because it's
such a low spread. I just don't trust Texas Tech's
offense in this situation. I think Dante Moore in company
are going to be too much for them.

Speaker 2 (39:29):
Hey, you could be right. I'm gonna go with Tech.
I'm gonna take the points at least. And their front
seven is so good. Their offense, man, when it's firing
that they're really good. They're a wagon. I like Texas
Tech getting points. How about BAM and Iu IU minus seven?

Speaker 4 (39:44):
I like IU to cover.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
I just do too.

Speaker 4 (39:46):
I think they're gonna be too much.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
I love them, Yeah, I absolutely love them. I think
Bama's fools, gold frauds, fugazy. I don't trust them at all.
Ole Miss Georgia Georgia minus six and a half. I
like the dollars cover you Georgia to Let's go enjoy
the day.
