Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's Dan Patrick Show, Fox Sports Radio, LaVar Arrington, Brady Quinn,
Jonas Knox with you in for Dan and the guys.
You can hear us weekday mornings before Dan and the
Dan Nets six am Eastern time, three o'clock Pacific here
on Fox Sports Radio. As we sit in for them
and take you all the way up until the end
of this hour nine o'clock Pacific time noon Eastern time.

(00:26):
We will be back here in this same spot coming
up tomorrow as well too. So away we go here
an hour three and we've got one of the hot
topics in the NFL this offseason, and that's the Browns
quarterback room. Who's gonna get the nod? Who's on their
way out? How's this whole thing gonna play out? You

(00:47):
got Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dylan Gabriel, Shador Sanders, and
Deshaun Watson waiting in the wings.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Maybe one day he'll get his job back. Who the
hell knows.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
But the Cleveland Browns have got all sorts of quarters there,
and there's all sorts of questions and speculation going on.
Mary Kay Cabot who covers the Cleveland Browns, who's been
doing it for a long time. She was on the
Orange and Brown Talk podcast and she says that there's
one rookie that might have the advantage over the other.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
If there were a rookie quarterback that we're going to
start some games this season, I would think that Dylan
would get that nod ahead of Shador Sanders. It's going
to depend on how quickly Shador can come up the
learning curve in learning terminology and all the things that
he has to learn to get out there and execute
the offense before the snap. But as it stands right now,

(01:42):
I would say that Dylan would be closer to winning
the starting job than Shador.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
So that was Mary kay Cabot, Brown's reporter discussing who
she feels like it's got the better opportunity to win
the job when it comes to rookies, which I've heard
everybody's the leading candidate to get at this job thus far.
I've heard Flacco, I've heard Kenny Pickett, I've heard people
talk about shit, or I've heard Dylan Gabriel.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
The whole thing is mind boggling.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
I don't understand, but apparently everybody's got a shot depending
on who you talk to, and we're being pulled in
different directions to kind of keep the story going until
we get to training camp.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
Apparently, I'm gonna try to find some sound from It
was a former interview of a head coach that to
me was legendary at the college level, and I'm gonna
send it to Lee, so hopefully Lee can cut it
up during the course of having this conversation, or maybe
Chris can in the back. But this is that time

(02:41):
of year where you get like reporters and everyone basically
just trying to make headlines. They're trying to figure out
what to put out there for their employer. I mean,
that's the truth of this. We do not have the
ability right now to have any idea who's going to
be the starter for the Browns winning the season. But
I think it's safe to say that it's either Joe
Flacker or Kenny Pickett, right unless an injury happens. I

(03:01):
don't think it's gonna be Dylan Gabriel. I don't think
it's gonna be get Shud or Sanders. Flacco knows the system.
He's been there, he's played forever, he's won a Super Bowl.
He probably gets the nod in my opinion, and if
not him, probably pick it because he's got more experience
than he should be playing better within this system than
the rookies. I mean, there's just there's a learning curve there,
and LaVar, you experienced it as a defensive player as a.

Speaker 6 (03:25):
Quarterback, depending on what you did in college.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Even if you're someone like Dylan Gabriel who played a
lot of college football, it's a drastic difference in learning
a new system with a faster speed of the game,
the way the defensive guys play and even the offensive guys.
You know, it's funny like everyone's like, oh, the guy
runs a four for It's like, well, yeah, pretty much
everyone does in the NFL, and if they don't, they're
close to it or they're able to play faster than

(03:48):
what that forty yard dash time is. So it looks
like they're running a four to four out there. So
I look at it and just say, this is fun
to talk about the preseason. Depending on how the rookies
play may put some more pressure on the veteran guys,
but this is this is a two horse race. It's
Joe Flack or Kenny Pickett. I mean, the best man
win and we'll see what they end up doing with
one of those two agreed.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
And that's why I was curious when when I heard
the sound in context, is she what is she saying?
Because if one of those two guys are in competition
to start, then this Cleveland Browns team is not in
great shape. If you ask me, I just if you
have Kenny Pickett and what you do, and you have

(04:31):
Joe Flacco on your your roster, what you do which
you clear, you are clear on why they put brought
those guys in. You brought in Flacco as an insurance policy.
Whether you want him to be the initial starter or not,
He's still an insurance policy quarterback where you would say,
this is a team that they believe has the talent

(04:52):
on offense that can win. Now they had that type
of success with Joe Flacco, so he's available, let's bring
him in as and in shortance policy, you look at
Kenny Pickett. He's still young, still a very young quarterback,
still a rookie quarterback really and in so many ways.
I mean he has played out, you know, being a rookie,

(05:14):
but still very young. In what I'm in regards to
where he's at in his career. But he has experience,
and I think that that's very critical and that's very
vital in the current situation he finds himself in. The
only reason, let's be clear on this, the only reason
why the media is having this conversation about Cleveland is

(05:39):
because of Shador Sanders, not because of Dylan Gabriel. Dylan
Gabriel may give it fuel to the fire that's already there.
That is what will happen with Shador Sanders. There's so
many unknowns connected to Shador. Is he going to compete
for a starting job? Is he going to be looking
for a job? It runs the whole spectrum of what

(06:02):
it could possibly end up being for Shador Sanders, and
he continues to be and probably most likely will continue
to be someone that they can leverage, that can be
leveraged in conversation about what, in particular is happening with
the position as a whole based upon the relevance of
Shador Sanders and the relevance of where he was drafted

(06:26):
at and where he currently sits on the depth chart.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
So Jimmy Haslm was the guy behind shad Or Sanders,
getting drafted. Correct, That's kind of the prevailing wisdom is
that it wasn't really a Stefanski move. It wasn't really
Andrew Berry. They'd already drafted a quarterback. But maybe it
was Haslam who wanted to bring in Shador. That's kind
of what I've gathered. So if that's the case, he's
probably not gonna get cut, and Jimmy Haslm's probably okay

(06:53):
with the fact that this is going to be a storyline,
because yeah, maybe it does take away from the fact
that you've got Deshaun Watson and and that fiasco that
went on with his contract and how his time has
played out. It just I keep going back to my
initial thought on this is the person that it puts
in a bad spot is Kevin Stefanski because he's going
to be asked every single day about shador Houses development.

(07:15):
I mean, we've talked about Shador Sanders more this offseason
at pick one four than cam Ward at pick one.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
I don't see more highlights of than you saw camp.
I just don't I don't get it.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
I don't know why anybody thought this was a great
idea to throw that into the mix of an already
up in the air quarterback room. I don't know why,
why was this done? And it just feels like everybody
in the coaching staff those plays, like everybody's been putting
a bad spot and Jimmy Hasm's just standing in the
background going, hey, this is great. We're getting all sorts
of headlines, I mean, different reports every day. I've heard

(07:53):
so many and this isn't a shot at Mary Cake Habitt.
I swear to god, I've heard her say something positive
about the likelihood that each guy is going to be
the starter to open up the air. I swear to god,
you can go back and see. There's just it's almost
like she's being pulled in different directions. Everybody's being pulled
in different directions, and here we are, we're not even

(08:14):
at training camp yet.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
It's just the whole thing's bananas. It's a circus. I
think it's a hard that's it's a hard situation to navigate,
as you mentioned, if it is the coaching staff and
C I mean you, you're the quarterback here. I think
the politics are way more intense at that position. And

(08:37):
when you have the idea of someone as high profile
as Shador Sanders was, you gotta believe they took that
into consideration before they drafted him. So it leads me
to believe in your in your opinion, I would I
say it leads me to ask the question, what do
you think their plan is with all the quarterbacks that

(08:59):
they took Gabriel knowing that that's who they wanted with
that pick, but when Shador was there, they took Shador Sanders,
So what would you think is their plan for the
four of them?

Speaker 6 (09:11):
They're just trying to find a guy.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
But let's be real, like, that's what people will always
say about Cleveland is they're just trying to find a quarterback,
and they're going at it in a variety of ways.
Trading for a guy who was a former first round
pick and has got some seasoning and experience, and Kenny
Pickett bringing back a guy who led you to the playoffs,
played great in a short stint, who you played against

(09:34):
for years and you watch succeed and win a super
Bowl in Joe Flacco, and then bringing in two guys
you like probably as rookies. You know Shador, who, in
my opinion I had I had ranked a lot higher.
I'm ranked higher than Dylan Gabriel you know, looking at
his film, how is you know, how his game translates
to the NFL as far as his ability to make
all the throws, process, see the field, everything else. Granted, look,

(09:57):
I don't have the evaluation that the the Brown's coaching
staff does, and the scouts and everyone else doing all
the access to all those things. But you know, that
was how I kind of saw those two playing. So
clearly they like things about both these guys, but they're
just trying to find a guy, you know, as far
as the headlines and everything else, Like you kind of
wish that wasn't the case. You know, I think there's

(10:19):
a lot of other teams that are sitting pretty right now,
their owners are sitting pretty on their yachts somewhere out
someplace warm in a body of water, who are thinking like, well,
at least I don't have to worry about that. At
least I don't have to worry about that quarterback situation, right.
I mean, let's be real. I mean, there's a chance
that you could be adding three more names to the
infamous you know, Cleveland Browns quarterback Jersey that I'm a

(10:42):
part of. My only question with that is does Flacco
get added twice. He's already on it. Now once does
he get added on to it again or his name
to stay there? Maybe they draw an arrow maybe to
the next name. But the other thing this makes me
think is is Cleveland's been through this before. They drafted
Johnny Manzel and they did in the first round, like

(11:03):
it was. He not a polarizing figure.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
Absolutely.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
I mean, you guys, tell me who had more hype
surrounding them, and they're following Shadoor Johnny Manziel, I would argue,
Johnny Manziel. Yeah, so they've been through this before and
I don't think it's anything.

Speaker 6 (11:18):
New to them.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
And how they go about trying to get Shador ready
to play, I think it's gonna be very different than
Johnny Manziel.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
Shout doesn't, you know, he doesn't.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
He's not affected by the stuff that Johnny Manziel was
impacted by that impacted his performance and career. You know,
that's it's it's apples and oranges in that comparison. But
when you mentioned, you know, the the hype around them
or the following and their presence in the social media
world and what that means nowadays, I would say that's
the closest thing I can think of to Shador and

(11:47):
the way he was able to impact a lot of
things with Colorado and how he was viewed during his
time in college football. So that's like the only similarity there.
But you know, still, they've they've seen this, they've done
this before, and they're just trying to find a guy.
That's all it really comes down to. I've been trying
to get Lee to chop up this sound. I have
no idea if he's been impacted. Is the sound ready?

Speaker 6 (12:09):
Akay?

Speaker 5 (12:10):
So let me just let me just teet this up.
Bob Diaco, who was a one point the head coach
at the University of Connecticut their football team, I believe
he had like a seven quarterback, a seven quarterback, you know,
like seven seeds or seven different guy strings, and they

(12:30):
were all competing for the one job. And this was
the press conference he had and announcing who his starting
quarterback was.

Speaker 7 (12:38):
I laid out a role for Chandler, I said, Chandler,
if you're interested in coming to back, picture being the
scout team quarterback, wearing a red cap and signaling to
the other quarterbacks in the game. If that role would
be okay for you, then come back. If that role's
not okay, don't come back. You're gonna have a chance

(12:59):
to compete to get more than that. But at a minimum,
be ready to play whatever role you want, whatever role
that we declare, he said, call me back, he said,
I'm all in. And every day since he's repaired, rebuilt,
and gained back the respect of his teammates, and he didn't.

Speaker 6 (13:22):
Have to gain.

Speaker 5 (13:25):
Just got It's a seven minute clip, Lee, did you
listen to the whole thing? Because he basically goes with
every single quarterback and he compliments each quarterback that was
in this competition so much so that by the time
he gets to the last guy, you actually forget who
he named as a starter, because he made it sound
like they all seven could start. But it was the

(13:46):
most perplexing press conference I've ever seen. In the announcement,
what should have been definitive, actually you end up being
more confusing than anything else.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
And you know, the other part of the Brown situation too,
is that people are now looking ahead to next.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Year already like, well, yeah, they gave up.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
You know, they acquired another first round, picking that trade
with Jacksonville to move up to take Travis Hunter and
so the thought is, well, it's a much more quarterback
friendly draft class next year, they'll just go draft a
guy next year. Okay, so then all of this this
year doesn't matter. We'll just focus on next year. And
if they're in a spot to where they've got a

(14:22):
draft a quarterback next year, wouldn't you assume Stefanski's probably
on the outs at that point, because that would be
an indicator this year didn't go, didn't go well, just
the whole It's layer upon layer of chaos with that team,
especially at the quarterback position. So fun stuff for the
Cleveland Browns lead.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
We got that? Sound?

Speaker 2 (14:41):
Is it?

Speaker 6 (14:42):
How we looking?

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Oh? God, we do have it?

Speaker 6 (14:45):
No?

Speaker 3 (14:46):
No, no, no, not no? The one Lee?

Speaker 6 (14:52):
What what's going on?

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Go ahead, get on the mill, listen to a seven
minute conference and yes, I've got it.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
I think what you want for?

Speaker 8 (15:01):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Here we go.

Speaker 7 (15:03):
People to compete were the process of the evaluation, summer
conditioning and then camp. Nothing was left out. The available
people to compete were, you know, Tim Boyle, Casey and
Chandler Whimper and Bryant who's ineligible based on transfer rules,

(15:25):
and he knows his role and his role will be
as the scout team quarterback will look team quarterback emulating
the opponent's quarterback as he prepares and gets his timing
down and helps the team prepare for the competitive environment.
So amongst that competition, Tim Boyle, nothing that was going

(15:46):
to prevent him in any way from performance.

Speaker 6 (15:48):
But with some nagatively, you have to actually cut it
off here and there. You can't just play it for
the search.

Speaker 9 (15:54):
Well, exactly exactly that, Brady, They we had prepped on this,
we could have we got that.

Speaker 6 (16:01):
Well, it sent you ten minutes ago and.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
It's a seven minute thing. So yeah, I didn't have time.

Speaker 6 (16:06):
To go through the sexy thirteen minutes ago.

Speaker 9 (16:08):
Okay, you didn't tell you didn't tell me what it
will until it was live on air right before we
go to it.

Speaker 5 (16:17):
You're not producing the show today, professor, is much to ask.
I know you've got gas issues with the whole chili
cheese on yesterday.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
My god, have you blown it up in there Todayly?

Speaker 9 (16:28):
No, I might be closed mercifully, No, I might be.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
You know, I got one more hours, So lucky, you know,
I feel so lucky. I feel better.

Speaker 6 (16:38):
Today than.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Forty five minutes.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Well, look I know this, Uh you know we are
efforting to get that sound together.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
But if you want to, I think we're going to
try sound.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
I think I think we're good. We got a better
chance of dirty mic and the boys visiting.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Listen. I I do know this. I wonder if we
have four producers compete for that spot, the starter would be.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
Your gonna be demoted to scouting.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
I'll wear the red.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
Well, we're actually not gonna give you a red jerse live.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
They're gonna be able to hit you the entire practice.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Hey, you know who's a starter?

Speaker 1 (17:27):
Tyroll?

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Because pickleball is booming and Tyroll is leading the charge.
Tyroll makes the first shoe built just for pickleball, with
a rugged vibran outsole that outlasts tennis shoes, more comfort, grip.

Speaker 2 (17:54):

and they are a one hundred percent correct about this,
and the people making the decisions they don't care. We'll
get into that for you right here on FSR.

Get a free estimate today. Uh oh, better get Mako.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
So Micah Parsons is one of these guys looking for
a contract to get done with the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (19:32):
And he's looking to get a contract done.

Speaker 6 (19:35):
Oh he's not.

Speaker 2 (19:36):
He doesn't want one.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
No, No, it's not that he doesn't want one. I
just don't think he's looking for it. I think it's
on its way. Okay, then yeah, looking is you know,
hey what, it's going to find him. He doesn't have
to look for it.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
So you're saying like he's driving a ship and he's
gonna like run ashore.

Speaker 6 (19:55):
He doesn't need to look for the shore. It's gonna
come find him.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
I'm saying he's sitting on a ship in the marina
and that ship is going to get sunken by the
amount of money that's going to be dropped onto his boat.
And then it doesn't feel like the same analogy, and
he can buy a ship. He's not looking for a contract.

(20:20):
He's he can sit right where he's at. It's gonna
it's coming to him.

Speaker 6 (20:23):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
I mean, highest paid, highest paid defender in the league.
He will be now he he did.

Speaker 6 (20:30):
Is anyone disputing that?

Speaker 3 (20:31):
I mean, I don't know. I'm just saying he will
be the highest paid defender in the league.

Speaker 6 (20:35):
So he's not looking to be the highest paid.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
No, he's going to be. Yeah, there's a difference between
looking like some guys like Hendrickson is looking for contract.
He's hoping for a contract that fits what he wants.
Michael Parsons is just waiting for the contract to come, so,
you know, looking is like he's got to find it.

(20:57):
He doesn't.

Speaker 5 (20:58):
But if you're waiting for it, Yeah, it might not
be the highest I mean, we all think he's gonna
be the highest paid defensive player, but it might not be.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
Yeah, I don't. I don't think it's I don't think
it's it's it's he's going to be the highest paid
defensive player in the history of the game. It's coming.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
So you're saying, like if he was Stevie Wonder and
he couldn't even look, he wouldn't need to.

Speaker 3 (21:21):
Anyway, doesn't even need to look. He could be blind.
He could be blind, deaf and dumb, and still with
what he's done with his body of work, he will
be the highest paid player in the National Football League
on the defensive side of the ball. You go, where's.

Speaker 11 (21:43):
Well?

Speaker 2 (21:44):
I was looking to point to the undertaker, who's a
lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, and the Undertaker was interviewing Michael
Parsons and got his thoughts on the whole contract situation recently,
and it.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
Went like this, how are we coming with the contract man?
Can you talk about it?

Speaker 12 (22:03):
Because look I listen, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (22:07):
Drink, get a drink of water. Yeah, that's not a
good sign.

Speaker 11 (22:10):
We obviously want to get done early. We want that
relief off our backs. But obviously ownership is always gonna
make a drag out, make it, make it more complicated
than it has to be. Lack of communication in that standpoint.
But you know, I just always say God has me
this far, he ain't done with me yet, So you know,
I just just keep working, keep going, and then when
it comes, I'm gonna be ready. But you know, it

(22:31):
ain't gonna be no drop off.

Speaker 12 (22:32):
It seems like to me like they would want to
get it done because there's a few other contracts out
there that are gonna probably say what you're gonna get
end up getting paid.

Speaker 11 (22:42):
I would never understand that we wanted to do the
contract last year. It's just kind of like we want
to do DAK and CD and then you go out
there perform again, and then you know you would think like,
all right, we'll get it done early. We know there's
some guys about to get ready to get repaid, like Miles.
You know, Max is going, so you would think like, hey,
let's get ahead of that, you know what I mean,
I just never under you know, when guys come into
the league and they're consistent and then you know they perform, well,

(23:04):
why they got such an urge. But then there's guys
that just have one good year or maybe two good years,
and it's just.

Speaker 6 (23:10):
Like they get it right away.

Speaker 11 (23:11):
And now even now you got TJ and Max and
all these other guys is getting paid and you can't
want us to take less because you just wanted to
decide to wait, you know.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
You know what, So even the Undertaker falls in line
with why did the Cowboys wait so long to get
these deals done?

Speaker 3 (23:27):
Well?

Speaker 5 (23:27):
It's also interesting because it does feel like he's looking
if he's waiting for that contract, he is playing out
the question we've always asked about the Dallas Cowboys, like
why do they keep waiting with these guys? You knew
what you had in Ceedee Lamb, you knew what you
had in Dak Prescott. You know what you've gotten Micah Parsons, Like,
what's the point in waiting? It only gets more expensive? Yeah,
we just watch the New York Jets sign Garrett Wilson,

(23:51):
who's been back to back to back one thousand yard
seasons with different quarterbacks and still finding ways of being productive.
You know what's the point?

Speaker 3 (24:01):
Oh, you're waiting on? All I'll say is I do
not think he's looking for the contract, because he's going
to get a big ass contract, the biggest and the biggest,
the biggest, like the plug, you know, like big X
the plug. Uh. And he's from Texas, by the way.
I just to me, I think he is. He's stating

(24:24):
how he feels about the scenario. I mean, that wasn't
he might have been a little distracted, knowing knowing Micah.
Micah might have been distracted by somebody and was answering
why he was distracted, because he's generally a little bit
more like straight to the point with what he's saying
than what he was in that sound bite. But I

(24:45):
think he understands that this has been what Dallas. This
is characteristic true form for Dallas, which is they've waited
in recent years to award the big ass contract to
their major players, whether it's Ceedee Lamb, whether it was
Dak Prescott. Going back to where we were at with

(25:07):
the running back. Uh uh, what's buddy's name? Elliott Elliott,
Zeke Elliott. Yeah, I mean they've waited, so I don't
think this is Zeke.

Speaker 6 (25:18):
They didn't.

Speaker 5 (25:19):
Actually, Zeke is the opposite. He held out Zeke. No, no, no, no, Zeke.
They gave it to him early, remember, off his rookie deal.
They re upped that yet, but they hold out to
get them to when he was on Mango deck in Mexico.

Speaker 6 (25:38):
But he's the one. He's the one they didn't wait
to pay. They paid him.

Speaker 5 (25:42):
Early and now they haven't made that same move ever
since then.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
I thought that they he forced them to pay them,
like he held out, like I'm not coming until you
guys give me he contract. He did go to Cabo
right because he was working out on he was with
Marshall folks. They do on mango deck footwork.

Speaker 6 (26:07):
Yeah, is there any handwork catching, any hip work?

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Thrusting. Oh oh boy, you know you gotta if you're
going to be a really really talented back, you have
to work on your hips and have a good thrusting
of the hips in your movements. It's good for balance,
it's it's good for explosive movements in terms of you know,

(26:37):
changing direction, and it's also good for generating power for speed.
So you gotta have good hip thrusting exercises that take place,
and no better place to do it than on the
beach in front of Mango deck.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Yeah, that's uh, that don't work.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Well. I'll just say I thought that that's what it was.
But if it turned out, I thought he he held
out for the deal he wanted to get in and they
eventually paid him and then yeah, but that's but it's
not about it still was early you're saying it was.

Speaker 6 (27:14):
It was after I think his third year.

Speaker 3 (27:16):
All right, that's and he felt like what it is
still a different conversation here though, because it actually is
time to pay Michael Parsons.

Speaker 5 (27:26):
For two years ago. Two years ago, they should have
paid him. Like, if you're going to pay a guy early, right,
wouldn't Mike have been that guy?

Speaker 6 (27:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (27:33):
I would have thought so, but they're going to have
to pay him now because it's it's no reason for
them to see it any differently, Like, there's no other
conversation point connected to the Michael Parsons conversation.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
So let me ask this, though I'm not trying to
like continue to keep pointing out the whole looking for it.
If you were an NFL team and you had a
guy who's arguably the best defensive player in the league
right like Michael Parsons is, if he never came looking
for a contract, wouldn't you just keep playing it out
where he just let him play his five years under

(28:06):
his rookie deal and then you franchise tag him and
you franchise tagg him. I mean, that would be the
cheapest way you'd have him under control for seven years
for as cheap as possible. If the players never going.

Speaker 6 (28:19):
To press the issue.

Speaker 3 (28:21):
I mean, I could see that point of view, but
I would I would push back and say, when you
have the body of work that he has and the
names that you have to throw out there to compare
to him, Reggie Reggie White is a name. Lawrence Taylor
is a name that has to be thrown out there,

(28:43):
in the numbers in comparisons of what Michael Parsons has
done thus far in his career. He doesn't have to
look for a contract. That contract is coming and they're
not going to keep franchise tagging him. Not where he's
at right now, not at the a's at, not at
the level of production out You could say, possibly maybe

(29:04):
because he sustained that ankle injury, maybe that may have
gave them some type of pause, But I don't even
see that being an issue because you got a comp
and that that got hurt and got a big ass
contract coming off of a pretty serious, significant injury to
end his season.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
I mean, it would not surprise me if Aiden Hutchinson
got his done before Michael Parsons and Aiden Hutchinson came up.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas is waiting to do
his contract so no one can come out and say
they gave a bigger contract than what they gave them.
Michael Parsons, Well, would Dallas want that?

Speaker 1 (29:39):
They?

Speaker 5 (29:40):
I mean, I'm to wait for that. I think you
want to do your deal like yesterday if you can.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
I think that could be a possibility here where they're
waiting so that they can give him the bigger contract
out of all of them.

Speaker 6 (29:54):
Do you think Dallas wants to pay more for a
player they don't want to pay.

Speaker 3 (29:58):
I don't think Dallas want somebody to come out and
be able to say, we gave we gave Hutchinson a
bigger contract than Michael Parsons. I don't think Dallas would
want that. I don't think Dallas would want them to
say t J. Watt got a bigger contract than Michael Parsons.
I just don't think Dallas will want that.

Speaker 5 (30:17):
It sounds okay, hold on, hold on, I would see
Micah Parsons and his agent not wanting that. I don't
think any team wants to come out and brag about
how much they paid a guy.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
Dallas.

Speaker 5 (30:27):
I think they want to brag about how little they
paid him and look how great.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
I don't I don't think I think Jerry Jones does
what I think Jerry Jones does.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
I think Dallas one want to brag about it. I
think he's a wild man.

Speaker 6 (30:39):
I think he's that guys like, look how much money
I spelled this place. We still can't win a Super.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
Bowl that Jerry said.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Jerry Jones made a comment either last training camp or
the previous one where there's about somebody's contract, who knows
at that point, and he said something along the lines of,
you know, I don't mind playing waiting to pay a
little bit more to get something I want like he doesn't.
And I just wonder if part of this is the
way his mind operates. If we set the mark and

(31:09):
we set the standard where what everybody else looks at.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
You don't want somebody to come come after you. He's wild,
But do you want that? Never mind? Never mind because
that was about to be bad.

Speaker 5 (31:25):
Just just for the record, I don't believe Jerry Jones
wants a guy who, by the way, has built up
Frisco to like being out there.

Speaker 6 (31:34):
It's incredible.

Speaker 5 (31:35):
Like I think before he bought and created that whole facility,
the star out there, it was just a bunch of land,
like farmland or dirt or whatever. To see what it's
become is incredible, and it's obviously a credit to Jerry.
But I'm just for the record, I don't think he's
going to brag them out just having to pay all
these guys they draft and they're so darn good, I
just got to keep paying them.

Speaker 6 (31:56):
That top of the league like, I don't. I don't.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
I don't think he wants that. I get Unfortunately, he's
out of context. You're talking about possibly the best defensive
player in the league and a generational he's already having
a generational career, and.

Speaker 6 (32:14):
We're not arguing about that. We're not arguing.

Speaker 5 (32:17):
No one's arguing how great Micah Parsons is or if
he deserves the highest contract in the NFL for defensive player.
I'm simply stating I've never heard an owner want to
brag about how much they're simply saying when they get
together for owners meetings, like that guy sitting at the
little kid's table, They're like, yeah, don't, don't listen to
that guy. He just he just paid his player a

(32:39):
ton more money than he had to had he paid
him a year or two ago.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
I don't think you're just talking about any player. And
that's not me being biased either.

Speaker 5 (32:48):
Okay, Tom Brady to Tom Brady never maximized it either.
Do you think people didn't look at Robert Kraft and
Bill Belichi and go, holy cow, how did you get
Tom Brady not to take the max of what he
could make every single year? All I'm saying is again,
best defensive player should make the most money.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Of any defensive player, he will make the most money.
And I don't think that we get that. No one's
arguing that. Okay, but but you're your I don't I
get you're trying to say they don't want to pay
that much money, They'll pay what they can pay. I
get that. But what I'm telling you is is I
don't see Dallas paying him right now, knowing that there's
two or three other guys out there that haven't got

(33:30):
their contracts that play the same exact position that he does,
when they know that he is the best player, I
think they're waiting for all of that to be done
or or you get to a point or where you
can't wait anymore. If if if it's Detroit, if it's Cincinnati,
if they've taken so long where we're deep into deep

(33:52):
into training camp, then they got to go ahead and
do the contract. And that's a conversation that has to
take place between the agent and in the franchise. But
I truly believe that they are waiting to give him
his contract because they are going to give him the
largest contract, and I don't think that that's insane, and

(34:12):
I don't think it's absurd and I don't think it's egregious.
I think that that's how they're looking at it. That's
that's I don't.

Speaker 6 (34:18):
Think I believe.

Speaker 5 (34:21):
I've never heard her business owners say that before, But
that's wild. If that's the direction he's taking it, I
don't you know, I think that it makes sense for
he is again the names that you have to compare
Michael Stomach, you know, and he was covering his face
for a moment too, which who knows what.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
That was about. And Chris Purfett looks like he is tranquilized.
So I don't know about all that, but what I
will say is I do dang. I do think that
market Micah Parsons calls for the conversation based off of
who he is comparable to. You can't compare name another

(35:04):
player that you could compare to the names I gave
you this early in their career. It's not Von Miller,
it's not gonna be It's not Lawrence Taylor. Yeah, that
Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White? Who else?

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Who?

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Since those guys are you going to compare numbers wise
at this point in their career as closely as Michael
Parsons has been. There has never been a name that's
come up that's been comparable to LT until Michael Parsons.
There's not been one name, not no, not one name,

(35:39):
not DeMarcus, not Vaughn or any other guy you can
think of coming off of the edge. Not Adon Hutchinson,
not TJ Watt, not JJ Watt.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
None.

Speaker 3 (35:50):
There have been none comparable to Lawrence Taylor and Reggie
White until Michael Parsons. That's that's all I'm saying. If
you have that guy on your team and he's still
on his rookie contract, you make sure you you keep
that and you keep them happy. And there's other guys
that are going to get paid. Wait till they get

(36:11):
paid so that you can make him the highest paid
defensive player in the league.

Speaker 5 (36:16):
Now, I think there's there's another name.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
I throw Derek Thomas in there. Derek Thomas. That's a
good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. Yeah,
that's he sets out thet I'm not throwing de Marcus
wearing that one.

Speaker 6 (36:31):
You know who, we forget about.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
Derek Thomas is a good one to throw in there. Respect.

Speaker 5 (36:36):
You know who we forget about though, and we never
talk about.

Speaker 6 (36:40):
Nope, Alden Smith. Smith's first Yeah.

Speaker 5 (36:47):
Well it wasn't Ton. His first three years were incredible
Stars started. That was a player that man. It was
unfortunate Stars. Yeah, I mean, that's it's a good name.
But I'm just telling you he was not compared to
them too. It's a it's a it's a no list
comparison to Reggie White and Lawrence Taylor. And yeah, you

(37:09):
could throw Derek Thomas in there too, by the way.
I mean that's I'm not going to dispute that one.
J Watt, you know, if we say I said not
J J. Watt down low.

Speaker 3 (37:20):
If you could get a little down load down low
on that one. Yeah, I say, Kevin Green, I said
Kevin Green. All right, all right, I did say Kevin Green.
You're forgiving Johnson.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (37:32):

Speaker 1 (38:24):
Sounds incredible, but they're still good. Time to find out
what's lap? It's Lee's lap?

Speaker 2 (38:31):
Jolders, All right, lead to lap, Executive producer, What do
you got?

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Guys?

Speaker 9 (38:34):
We started the first hour rattling off some of those
Shane Gillis jokes from the SP's Last Night One. We
didn't get a chance to listen to him ripping into
mister Bill Belichick.

Speaker 8 (38:43):
Take a listen, Hey, Bookie, is what Bill Belichick reads
to his girlfriend before bedtime. They do They read the
very horny Caterpillar, the Little Engine that Could, but needed
a pill first. And of course the classic good Night Boobs.

(39:07):
That was my favorite one. Also, I'm not trashing Bill Belichick.
First off, he's seventy three years old. He's dating a
hot twenty four year old and people are criticizing him.
What happened to this country? He used to be a
great country. He won six super Bowls. Yeah, he's dating
a hot twenty four year old. Maybe if you guys
won six super Bowls, you wouldn't be sitting next to

(39:29):
a fat, ugly dog wife, you do it?

Speaker 3 (39:39):
They allowed that. Yeah, I'm gonna tell you a story.

Speaker 8 (39:45):
Yeah, we should have taken that out.

Speaker 3 (39:50):
I mean, I'm telling you, he got that script approved,
I'm telling you, and good for you, sane. I mean,
sometimes you gotta call it out because some of these
dudes wives are ugly, damn and they are overweight and
they don't take care of themselves. Well, I've said it
on the show plenty of times.

Speaker 6 (40:09):
I know.

Speaker 5 (40:09):
My point though, is like, what if we started criticizing
people for this, it was moreth that.

Speaker 6 (40:14):
Angle of it.

Speaker 3 (40:15):
Not I'm just saying you're criticizing if you're looking at him.
But but you know you you're jealous.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
That's really unfortunate.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
You're sleeping in your office because you like the scenery
better on your office couch or floor better than you
do your crib and your bid at home.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
You know, I think the most important thing is are
they a good person? But again, you know, well, you
know there's always that too, Jonas.

Speaker 6 (40:47):
You can be funny, you know you can. You can
crack some jokes too.

Speaker 3 (40:50):
I just I don't I don't know why he's scared.
You play scared, Zonas, and that's fine. I don't play scared.
I just call it out, you know what I mean.
Some of these dudes, they stay awake because they don't
want to be there. It's just so yucky. They wake
up in the morning, like I'd just rather try to
win football games. Hey, a lot of these coaches has

(41:11):
changing the trendo. I mean, some of these guys, they
ain't going bad at all.

Speaker 5 (41:16):
Hey man, this is the best version of Bill Belichick
we've seen. This version is the best version we've seen.
She makes them better. Yeah, let them fire back, let
them do more interviews.

Speaker 3 (41:26):
You know, you always real spikers.

Speaker 6 (41:29):
Here like mom and pop stop like restaurants too.

Speaker 2 (41:32):
Maybe that's what this is. Crafts pissed because Belichick's was free.
