(01:46):
to start off hour three of the program here on
Fox Sports Radio. By the way, can I tell you something,
I'm first of all, I'm letting you know this right now,
We're going to have a discussion about a situation in
the NFL with one team that we should be focusing on,
but I'm going to steer the conversation towards the team
they're playing, because I can already see how the season
(02:08):
is shaping out. So the LA Chargers have Justin Herbert,
who apparently is still a little banged up with the
injury got kind of tangled up this past weekend. So
if he can't go, then, as Eddie Garcia Is pointed out,
it's going to be Easton Stick who will take over
as the quarterback for the Chargers. As they are in
Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. Eddie Garcia and the
(02:30):
Misses will be at that game. She's a Charger fan,
he's a Steeler fan, so we'll get all sorts of feed.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
We feel that, Eddie. How do you feel about this
injury potential? I mean it's a bummer for Karen. Well, No,
she gets he's in tickets. She sees Herbert all the time.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
If Easton Stick is starting this game, she may walk out.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Of the stadium. Really yeah, yeah, he's he gets started
like four games and he hasn't won any Not that
that's an indictment necessarily on him, but it's a different offense.
But he's he's back there. By the way, the Pirates intown.
You're gonna see a Pirate game.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Wa ah.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
No, so disappointed they're out of town.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Ah, it sucks. Great stadium and beautiful.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Not a good team, fine stadium.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah, which is half the battle as the White Sox.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
No, not as bad as the White Sox.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, true, good point. So Jim Harbaugh is undefeated as
head coach of the LA Chargers. They are going to Pittsburgh.
They stayed back east this week after after their win
over the weekend and so he's ready to go, but
he did want to give some credit where credit is due. Now,
(03:39):
this is in reference to Greg Roman, the offensive coordinator
there with the Chargers, and Jim Harbaugh was complimentary as
only he can be.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
He's just he's just a great He's a great coach.
I mean, one of the best I've ever been around. Yeah,
like Moses, I'm gonna I'm gonna die leaning.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
On my staff.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Uh, Greg Roman, Jesse Minner, Ryan Fick and those coordinators are,
in my opinion, some of the best in the business.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Just the gift that keeps on giving. Man, he's amazing, dude.
It's like every single week he's got something new that
he kind of works in, finds a way.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
You know.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
It's funny Levar's not on today. If he was, he'd
be proud.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
Though.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
There's a quote where he talks about Pittsburgh and just
having like the utmost respect for coaches from Pittsburgh and
then how they see the game of football, and it
was cool to hear him say that. Obviously he's he
was born in Ohio if I'm not mistaken, But you know,
you hear these coaches in like their backgrounds and how
excited they get about little things like that. Like Jim
Harball loves football, so he is just listening to his
(04:44):
quotes and how he weaves in biblical references is pretty amazing.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
I can tell you this right now. I'm getting a
weird feeling about the Steelers this year. There's usually a
team every year that gets like the benefit of some
breaks in the schedule. Maybe you didn't see, you know,
before the season, but you end up looking at it
and you go, man, they've really kind of gotten a
lucky draw when it comes to this whole thing. So
(05:10):
they open up the year and they get Kirk Cousins
in Game one against the Falcons on the road, and
clearly the offense wasn't up to snuff, like they were
trying to figure some things out. They probably did figure
it out on that final drive against the Eagles on
Monday night, and the Steelers are able to with defense
and justin fields not turning the ball over, win that game.
(05:32):
And then they go to Denver they get a rookie
quarterback in bo Nicks. They're still trying to figure that
thing out, and they win that game. Now they're going
to end up with potentially a backup quarterback against the Chargers.
Anthony Richardson has been up and down for the Colts,
Like it feels like everything is early on starting to
line up for the Steelers and as down on them
(05:54):
as I was before the year. I just wonder if
this is going to be one of those years where
they're going to end up with like double dish. It wins,
and you're gonna look back and go, yeah, but it's
like a flawed record, but it's not gonna matter because
Mike Tomlin's gonna be above five hundred again and this
team's gonna be sniffing the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Like I can already get that vibe. I'm not ready
to go there yet. I think if Easy's stick starts,
that's maybe the beginning of this conversation. It also would
be interesting to see too, when Russell Wilson's back healthy,
if there's any issue with that or if they somehow
find a way around it, Like that's kind of the
pig elephant in the room that they don't have to
address it because I'm not sure one of Russell Wilson's
(06:30):
gonna one hundred percent healthy and ready to go. As
I said before, it looked like when he was warming up.
That calf injury was way more serious than they let
on to believe. So we'll see how that transpires.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
But you're right.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
I mean, every single season, there's a few teams that
usually have a little bit of luck or the ball
tends to balance their way. Maybe it is Pittsburgh this year.
Maybe it's Tomblin remaining to always have a winning record,
and the obviously head in that direction right now. You know,
it's only gonna get more motivation to So that's the
hard part is having to hear him get so excited
(07:04):
about it every single time.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Is going to be a little bit of doiable.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Well, here's what pisses me off about it, because I've
been so down on Pittsburgh going into this season because
I thought I had a pretty good read about just
the division, Like I was not sold on Baltimore. I
just felt like, you know, last year was a bad
loss in the AFC title game, there's going to be
a step back and to let down. And so I've
been you know, I love Cincinnati to win the division.
That's and I've been consistent with that. And the Steelers,
(07:29):
I'm like, oh no, they've got the worst quarterback situation
in the NFL. They're basically playing paying these two guys pennies.
There's a reason for that. You know, the previous team
didn't want them, so on and so forth, and yet
here we are and it's like the same old, same old.
And you guys tried to warn me. We went even
went through the early portion of the schedule, and I'm like, oh,
they're going to lose to Atlanta. Denver early in the
(07:50):
year is a tough place to play. They're going to
lose that game. The Chargers are going to win that game,
a road game against Indianapolis, who were nearly a playoff team,
and I just you look at it and go, no, like,
there's a real chance this team before they.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
Get to Dallas in Week five could be four. And oh,
let's actually take this a step further. Let's go through
every one of the teams right now that's the top
of their division, and you tell me, you tell me
if there is any buzz about them in the offseason.
CORP is a little bit more dormant or quiet. Okay,
(08:24):
So we'll start off with Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh right now leads
the AFC North, which is not what we had thought
and you have Baltimore OH and two, Cincinnati O and two.
Obviously at this point in time, Cleveland's one to one,
but Pittsburgh's the top of the AFC North. And I
don't know if there was as much discussion about them.
And look, it is what it is. When you have
a Jamar Chase contract negotiation that's going to take up
(08:46):
a decent amount of the off season amongst some other things.
But they were not talked about as much, probably the
least talked about of any of the four. Is that
fair to say?
Speaker 1 (08:54):
And by the way, they're two and zero and both
those are road games, right.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Let's go to AFC.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
I think it's fair to say the Jets, maybe the
Dolphins or some of us talked about teams are discussed. Yeah,
they're sitting at third and fourth, tied for the bottom
up it the Buffalo Bills. Once again, even with all
the changes on their roster, they're two and oh lead
in the AFC East. So there's that.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Yeah, the window closed on Buffalo's to Von Diggs is gone,
Gabe Davis is gone.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
It's like, yeah, here we go. H You in particular,
thought the Texans would take a step back. Now they
didn't make some offseason moves. So maybe this doesn't work
for the AFC South. But the Texans are two and
oh the rest of the divisions, oh man, And.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
That's a team that.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
There was enough probably talk about them in the off season,
So maybe they don't fit this category.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
But I just bought into Jacksonville last year, like I
looked at Jacksonville New Orleans last year, like the same team,
expectations let down.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
New Orleans is bounced back. Jacksonville is not like it is.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
And so yeah, Houston sitting there atop the division again
the other team.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
That I'd say probably didn't talk about quite as much,
even though they do have a new head coach and
Jim Harbaugh. And the Chargers, who are tied atop the
AFC West with the Chiefs, you go to the NFC
Vikings are a top the NFC North. Yeah, I mean
all the conversation the off season about Chicago the number
one pick and Justin Fields, everything else, even Green Bay,
Jordan Love's new deal in Detroit. It's Minnesota. That's two
(10:20):
and zero. NFC South, You've got the Saints and you've
got the Bucks. Yeah, I mean, Atlanta was all the
talking point right for Cousins everything else, and go to
the NFC West. You got Seattle, Seattle, who there's no
conversation about, like, if anything, I mean, thanks to you.
It was Brendan Ayuke the forty nine ers, though, I
mean all the off season storylines, everything that was hyped up.
(10:42):
None of those teams right now are in the top
pole position in their division.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
I thought Seattle was going to be so bad that
they'd moved to Vancouver, Like that's how bad I thought
they'd be. And yet here we are, they're sitting atout
the division. It's just how would they be that?
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Though I don't know.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
I just I assumed, oh, this is going to be
a step back for Seattle. And people can look at
this and say, well, it's just two games, what does
it matter. Well, no, like history tells us even like
if you start off two and oh, like these teams
that are two and oh in the NFL right now,
at least a couple of these are going to the playoffs,
like like that's we know that, Like that's the history
of the NFL. The percentages would say so. And it's
(11:18):
also on the flip side, the OHO and two teams
and you know the twelve percent and only two of
twenty one since they expanded the playoffs. Like we could
sit here and just say, oh, it's just two weeks
into the no, like, this is an indicator that there's
a couple of these teams that at least in my case,
I didn't expect a lot from that's going to be
a playoff team. That's why the NFL every year does
(11:38):
this to where somebody pops up out of nowhere and
makes a run and we're looking at it, going, well,
nobody had that, And that's what I think what makes
the NFL fun because there's always a team you kind
of have an idea, like in the NBA or in
Major League Baseball, on some of these other sports, like okay,
you kind of know going in, all right, so and
so is going to be there. But like in the NFL,
(11:58):
there's always a team every year that pops up out
of nowhere and gets a break or an injury happens,
and here we are and a bunch of these two
and O teams I just assumed step back didn't take serious,
and here I am knowing that I'm gonna be wrong
on a lot of these picks every year.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
That's that's every year. I mean, we're all in the
sad boat. There's always gonna be a few, a few
misses here and there.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
Like which team sitting at OHO and two do you
look at and go? I was as wrong about them
as I was anything else in the NFL thus far, Like.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
I mean, as of right now, probably the Rams. Yes,
that's an OH and two team that I thought. I
think I had them when we went through a list
like a playoff team. I mean they're the teams. I mean,
you could say the Ravens, although like I like them
this week versus Dallas. I think I think they take
care of business, get their first win. You obviously don't.
So yeah, we'll see how that pans out. But definitely
the Rams and probably the Ravens. Yeah. So so I
(12:51):
had the Rams winning the division. That ain't happening, probably
especially based on the injuries. I had the best though,
with you doing that show and you feeling like you
kind of need to cater to the LA market.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
No, because like, there's nothing I like more anybody that
watches The Challenger listens to the blow Torch A five seventy,
there's nothing I like more than than finding a flaw
and a local team and just grinding it into the
ground like like I will I will give me the shovel,
I will dig the grave for that team and do
(13:25):
it with a smile like they're like, I love nothing
more of that. It's fun because people panic and you
can kind of turn you know, press some buttons and
all that. But I really thought the Rams were going
to win the division. I thought San Francisco is going
to take a step back. I wasn't sure about Arizona,
but I thought they could be a surprise. But I
looked at the Rams, I go, man, they're going to
get Cooper cutback, like Matt Stafford coming off last year,
(13:47):
Like you could argue they probably should have won that
game against Detroit in the playoffs, and yet here we
are a couple of games end of the season, injuries
have piled up, they're owing to like it just it
doesn't feel like a like an ideal spot to be in.
I know Chase Daniel, by the way, he did throw
out the idea of, uh, maybe the Rams trade Matt
staff Bryce Young.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah, I mean there's been a lot of people who
have thrown out ideas like that.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
But you know, like, like we're just gonna trade Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Now, okay, all right, That's what didn't make sense about it.
It's like, well, you're kind of still in this window
with Stafford, and I have to go look look at
his contract. Does he have no trade clause in his contract?
I don't recall, like you're the contract. I have to
look at it. I would assume he usually does some
pretty like Iron Cloud contracts where they like that kind
of stuff is typically in there, but maybe not in
(14:37):
this one.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
So it is two Pros and a Cup of Joe

want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also going to

will continue on our after show called over Promised. Well,
if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make sure

There you go, over promising. Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with Cabino and

that this show is sponsored by DraftKings. Stay tuned because
you'll hear more about DraftKings and allD desktop or throughout
the show DraftKings. The crown is yours. So if you're
listening here and you hear all this, we're going through
(16:48):
the list of jobs that Albert Breer has now like
we're going through all of.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
These lot of jobs. I mean a lot of jobs.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
He's like the Ryan Seacrest of sports media. Now on
top of everything else he's got going on with the
m m QB, he's part of Amazon's NFL on Prime
coverage coming up later. Ab congratulations first and foremost, and uh,
I mean where do you find the time?
Speaker 8 (17:12):
Thanks, guys. Well, the checks keep clearing, so that's good.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
We didn't think you're doing it for free, Albert.
Speaker 8 (17:21):
Yeah, no, no, no, no, it's great. It's uh, you know, honestly,
something I've kind of you know, we we we've we've
been talking about for the last three or four months.
And you know, it's a great group of guys. I'm
sure as you guys know, like you know, working with
with Fits and and and Sherman and with Carissa and
and uh and Tony on the pregame show. It was
(17:41):
awesome last week and awesome getting to know them a
little bit better, and uh, it's a great group, you know,
and it kind of you know, it's interesting. I I
I always tell people like when I when I talk
to like journalism classes, I'm like, the meeting to state
is my job, and every one of my jobs are
the same. It's to get to know people. It's you know,
to be connected. It's to have information that's useful. And
(18:02):
there's lots of different ways in this day and age
to deliver that information. I guess, so I'm trying to
take advantage of that.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
No, congratulations, man, that's awesome. That's awesome, well deserved.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
And now, speaking of which, we've got Thursday Night football
later on tonight.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Any movement at all on.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
The Hassan Redick front, it feels like the Jets could
probably use that pass rush help with the Jermaine Johnson
injuries or injury that took place this week.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
So what are we looking at with a so on?
Speaker 8 (18:27):
I mean, this is just a really weird one because
it's I think the Jets still aren't even sure what
the sticking point is, you know, and they felt like
at two or three different points over the last few
months like okay, like we're making progress, maybe he's going
to come in, and now they're really not sure what
to think. Now. Does the Jermaine Johnson injury highlight this? Yeah,
(18:48):
did it change anything? I'm not sure, you know. I
know for right now they're feeling is they want to
go in and see what it looks like tonight without
Jermaine Johnson. Will McDonald their first round pick from a
couple of years ago, look really good last week, had
three sacks against the Titans, you know, and they've got
a couple of reclamation projects in that d line group
guys by Pat McKinley that they that they feel good about,
(19:12):
so you know, they'll take a look at tonight. There
are a couple of guys out there, you know as
street free agents, Frank Clark, uh Janig and Gokway. They
either know Robert Thaler or have experience in his system,
so they'll go through tonight. They'll they'll they'll reassess, you know.
But I think as far as reassan RD it goes,
it's sort of anybody's guess what happens here. And you know,
(19:33):
I do think one thing that's you know, a pretty
big piece of the puzzle is that you've got some
important dates coming up. The trade deadline is November fifth,
and not only is that, you know, important because you
know that would be the last day to be traded,
but also because after that point the Jets really have
control over whether or not you can come back this year.
(19:54):
And then on you know, the Tuesday before Week thirteen,
which is November twenty sixth, benz zild By then he
can't play the rest of the year, which means his
contract would toll, which means he wouldn't be a free
agent in twenty twenty five, So I think there's like
the feeling that he's definitely going to be in before then,
but you know between but what happens between now and
then is really anyone's gas.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
I want to go to Carolina and just talk about
the benching of Bryce Young. Whose decision was it? Albert?
What have you heard?
Speaker 8 (20:20):
Yeah? I mean, I think the interesting thing hasn't been
so much talking to the Panthers as the opponents. You know,
the obviously the Chargers and Saints put it on the
Panthers pretty good the first two weeks, and other Raiders
are preparing, so they've all gotten a good look at him.
And you know what's come back Brady is he's not
like even it doesn't even look like he's even considering
(20:40):
throwing the ball down field right now. He's not seeing
the middle of the field. And maybe the worst thing
of all, like what these defensive coaches are seeing is
he's looking at the rush and doesn't want to get hit.
And I think that's sort of the death now for
an NFL quarterback, you know, So you know, I you know,
I know talking to one guy, it's like, you know,
(21:00):
the guy they saw that was a fast processor with
the quick eyes at Alabama looks like he's gone right now.
And so I think there are two pieces into this
this decision for the Panthers. One it's you know, probably
giving Bryce Young a break, and then number two, it's
you know, you're serving the rest of your team and
Dave Canalis in his first year, can he sell what
(21:21):
Bryce Young is right now to the locker room? You know?
I think the answers probably know, which is why you
go with a veteran like Andy Dalton in this spot?
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Was Dave canal as like was he thought of as
a serious candidate anywhere else but Carolina? Meaning were there
other coaches and said we don't want any part of
that mess based on the Frank Reich Matt Rules situation.
Speaker 8 (21:44):
I mean, I certainly think like they were going to
have trouble hiring into that position just because of the
circumstances and because of the reputation of the owner. Right Like,
so I think what you're what you're representing there, Jones
is real like that. You know, I bet they they
weren't going to have their pick of the letter, you know,
based on on all the circumstances and and what happened
(22:06):
to Frank right there, and how they ended in that
rule era was handled and you know how Steve Wilkes
was handled as a as an interim coach. I think,
you know, for for for a lot of different reasons,
that wasn't seen as a very attractive job, you know,
I and Canals wasn't seen as some hot candidate. Like
I'm not going to tell you there were three other
teams that were, you know, ready to offerm a job,
(22:27):
which wasn't the case. Now I can understand the logic
and hiring him, which was if you've ever been around Dave,
he is the most positive, uplifting person to be around.
And they felt like they needed that, They felt like
they needed a guy.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
To be around.
Speaker 8 (22:42):
He's an awesome guy, right, Like, he's an awesome guy,
and like so there's that part of it. And then
there's also like, you know, there's I forgot you were
with him in Seattle, right right, Brady, you know, and
like so there's that part of it, Like and then
I think that there's the work that he's done with
quarterbacks the last few years where you know, he helps
you know, the he helped the Bucks get the most
out of Baker Mayfield he helped the Seahawks basically rescue
(23:08):
Gino Smith's career, you know, and so like you've seen him,
you know, get quarterbacks turned around, you know, in the
very recent in the very recent past. You know. So
those two things I think were major reasons why they
hired I mean, I think both those reasons make logical sense.
I'm not sure that I would really put the blame
(23:28):
on him for what's happening with Bryce Young right now.
You know. I think for him, it's like sort of
like the question becomes, how do we manage this? And
I think like the way they thought was the best
way to manage it is to give him a little
bit of a breather and give the team another answer
at the position.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
I guess the question becomes, though, like is it David
Tepper's opinion that that's coming from, or is it Dave
Kanala is doing it? Because you know, we're just trying
to get a sense of, you know, how this organization
is run and who's ultimately calling the shots there.
Speaker 8 (23:59):
Yeah, and the tricky thing is the Temper. You know,
Temper is very involved in the high end decision. I
don't know, I don't know that he's there on a
daily basis though, so you know, and it's it's interesting
because the way they hired, so they hired Dave to
be the head coach, they hire Brent Tillis to you
(24:20):
kind of be the analytics side guy from Kansas City,
and I think I think Keeper really did want to
hire an analytics side GM, but he kind of middled
that decision. So brant Is kind of is brought in
as the the e VP of football operations, and then
they elevate Dan Morgan to be the general manager. Well,
you know, Dan, who's very well thought of across the league,
was part of the mess the last few years, you know.
(24:42):
So it's it's it's not like it's I mean, it's
not that different in the way like the Lions or
the Niners or the Rams are set up. Like I'd
say that's probably the model closed to the model that
they have right now. But the division of power is
new there, you know, so I think people are there
are working through it. And and even if Keepper isn't
putting his hand on the scale, he's been involved enough
(25:07):
where I think like people in that building get an
idea of what he wants, Like he's not afraid to
voice his opinion and you know, could that at the
very least be coloring some of the decisions. I think
that certainly could be the case.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Just want to touch on the to a topic. Obviously,
with his teeth concussion, it feels like and he's now
an ir when do you think we'll get an idea
of you know, when he'll be back, if he's coming back.
I mean, is there a real potential of him just
deciding to you know, turn it down and that's it
(25:41):
and then retire.
Speaker 8 (25:43):
I don't think so. I mean, I I mean even
like going back to like that night, you know, like
when it happened and being there for it, and you know,
I I saw some of his family members that night,
like you know, in the aftermath and just seeing how
they were processing it. I don't think that, Like, I
don't think retirement right now is part of Tua's thought process.
(26:07):
But could that change based on what a specialist tells him?
Speaker 5 (26:11):
Maybe?
Speaker 8 (26:13):
I Mean, look like I always struggle with this, Brady
because I you know, like Tony was on our post
team show, and Tony Gonzalez, like obviously legendary tight end
gets on there and he says, what was my son,
I would tell him not to play, And I think
like we all kind of put ourselves in those shoes, right, Like,
if you were his brother or you were his dad,
what would you be telling him to do. You'd be
telling him to retire, absolutely right. That's different than being
(26:36):
the player himself. And I think, you know, Teddy Bruski
had great insight into this and having comeback from the
stroke on ESPN's Free Game and saying what the mentality
the athlete is? I mean, I Brady, I think like
I have so much respect for all of you guys
because I think the psychologically what you guys go through
is so unique, which is like, I mean, imagine being
so good at something that it becomes your identity in
(26:57):
high school and then you go to college for free
for it, and then you become a millionaire because of it,
and so much of who you are is based on
your ability to do this one thing at a very
high level. And then when you're thirty years old, somebody
comes and tass you on your shoulder and says you
can never do this again, you know, and and it's over.
That's a really, really hard thing to reckon with for
even guys who aren't, you know, forced out by injury.
(27:19):
It's hard for every one of them where you have,
I'm sure it's hard for you, you know, where you
know you have more than half of your life to
live in this thing that you know, it's such a
big part of who you are is now gone. You
can't do it again. So like to have it happen
suddenly like that and be in that spot, Like think
for anybody like me who you know, like didn't play
sports past high school, Like I can't relate with that, like,
(27:40):
you know, like, so can I say I would retire? Yeah,
I can say I would retire. There's a ton of
money that you have in the bank and all the
rest of it. But the psychology of of of an
athlete going through that is something else entirely and something
I respect, and you know, I think you know too,
is of the mind that like I definitely want to
try to get back out there. You know. Now we'll
see what the medical how the medical information comes back,
(28:02):
and how that affects him and everything else. But I
certainly think for any of us that they haven't played
at that level, haven't achieved at that level in athletics,
it's hard to relate with what he's going through.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Albert Brier joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, part
of Amazon's coverage of Thursday Night Football coming up later
on tonight, also senior NFL reporter lead content strategist at
the MMQB. I want to ask your thoughts on the
performance of Caleb Williams two games into his career. It's
worse than I thought it would be, just the offense
(28:35):
from people you've talked to. What's sort of the thought
on him just a couple.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Of games in so far.
Speaker 8 (28:42):
Yeah, I mean I think like there's so I think
there's a couple of things, Like I think that there's
a process of figuring out what he can get away
with and what he can't get away with, just as
far as like the off schedule stuff, right, Like I
do think like the way that things were last year
UFC with the offensive line issue they had, like he
became very reliant on playing that way, and I think
(29:02):
now it's you know, sort of figuring out what I
what I can get away with and what I can't
get away with. And I actually think like if you
watch the broadcast, I think it was sort of reflected
in the way Chris Collinsworth called the game. And what
I mean by that is, like, you guys know, like
they're they're obviously in production meetings, so they're talking to
the coaches before the game, and they're talking to Caleb
before the game. And there was a point early in
(29:23):
that game where I mean, Chris Collinsworth was over the
moon over him throwing a plant, you know what I mean. Like,
and I don't know if you guys got that.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
It just looks different. It looks different. Okay, no, no,
do your impression.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
You can do better.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
I mean, like you just from one week to the next,
it just looks different for him.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
And it's great to see and that.
Speaker 8 (29:43):
And and and and I and you know what like
that is, guys, Is that is Maddybraflus and Shane Waldron
and telling Chris and the production meeting like this is
what we're trying. We're trying to get him to take
the layups, you know what I mean. We're trying to
get him to make the easy to ros. And I
can remember Josh Allen going through this with Brian Daball
(30:04):
in Buffalo, and I remember talking to to Dave's about it,
like I remember him like he told me like he
showed Josh a ton of tape on Tom Brady, And
the reason he did it wasn't to show, Okay, here's
the greatest of all time. He did it because he
was showing he wanted to show Josh, like, look how
many layoups Tom takes, you know what I mean, like,
look how many Look how much of this like of
(30:26):
what Tom does is just taking easy money, And like
they're trying to teach him that. You know, I think
that that's sort of the process that that that Caleb
is going through now, where like Josh Allen was able
to be Superman all the time, doesn't mean you should
be Superman all the time, you know. I think that's
sort of where Caleb is right now. Now.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
I can sometimes right right like the normal nerdy guy
with the glasses on, the.
Speaker 8 (30:51):
Guy who's doing the mass problem and see he's like, hey,
there's a there's a good matchup over there, so I'm
going to take advantage of it exactly.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
So you know, I think, you know, the only difference
between Clark Kent and Superman was what outside of.
Speaker 8 (31:04):
The glasses, what was the difference?
Speaker 2 (31:07):
He switched his part. Huh, he changed his part from
one one side one one way to.
Speaker 8 (31:12):
The otherwise that right?
Speaker 3 (31:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (31:14):
Was it on the right side on one side?
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (31:17):
Wow, that's a good detail. Bright Is this out there?
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Well, I mean, I don't know if it is or not. Isn't.
But we were talking about Batman is don't call a
uniform whatever you talk about Batman wears. But but some
had nipples, some didn't throughout the years, So we were
talking about that earlier. Yeah. Wow, very wow.
Speaker 8 (31:35):
I think I mean, I don't know, Joan, It's like
we would put a pin in this one. Like, I
think we think we may have broken some new ground.
I've just seen the Superman's been around for like what
like almost one hundred years, probably heard of it.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
It's that sort of detail you get from a quarterback.
All right. They are so on top of it now.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
I didn't want to ask you again, total hypothetical here,
not that you would have any interest at all in
any of this stuff. But we were just kind of
bouncing around and you know, obviously big new kickoffs in Columbus, Ohio.
Speaker 8 (32:02):
You've got a home game this weekend.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Well, I mean, look, and I just it just so
happens that you know, the Ohio state Buckeys are a
you know, I mean, hypothetically, do you expect them to
win the final score is read that they'll be, you know,
forty points better or more than Marshall this Saturday.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
What do you think maybe after the.
Speaker 8 (32:20):
Western Michigan game, I would say yes, I would say yes,
I think that we're I think I think I think
they're They're in a very very good place right now.
And I think chips off senfliks it didn't look it
didn't look quite right against ACCL, and it looks spectacular
against Western Michigan. So I know it's Western Michigan. Uh,
you know which, whatever, it's Western Michigan. But I think
(32:43):
I think they found some things there and I think
they'll win rather comfortably against Marshall. I would I would
give the forty points.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
How about that? How about that? Now?
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Are you planning on getting out to any games in
Columbus or I am?
Speaker 8 (32:56):
I am, yeah. I got to figure all that out.
But I was actually going to go to Michigan State
next week. But you know, it screws this up now
for me. It's like I'm sort of feeling with NFL
fans feel with the flex. It's how late they announced
the games, you know, so like I knew, like I
talked to some people I know with the networks and stuff,
and they were I guess there was a chance you
guys were going to go Brady to to Ohio State
(33:18):
Michigan State next weekend, right, and.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
Maybe I don't think we had to pick to you, but.
Speaker 8 (33:24):
Go ahead, right, So, like I think it was just
it was like I had somebody telling me like, okay,
like it's probably going to be at seven o'clock on Peacock,
but it might be a big new kickoff game. So
I was like, all right, well, if it's a big
new kickoff game, I can go because then I can
A bunch of my buddies are running a house in
East Lansing next weekend, and so it's like, if it's
(33:45):
a big new kickoff game, I can go because I
can probably get to Detroit just fly getting the last
flight out like that night. Unfortunately, it's a seven o'clock game,
so I can't do it. But I'm going to get
to a game probably in October, and then I'm I'm
actually like going to book my flight here the next
couple of days for for the game after Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
The most interesting one I think they have coming up
is Nebraska, because Nebraska could be undefeated by the.
Speaker 8 (34:08):
Time, Brad, I mean Nebraska, legit, no question.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Yeah, So that that to me would be the one
that if you're looking at their home schedule, that one
end of October. Yeah, I think it's like the last
weekend of October, October twenty six, final game.
Speaker 8 (34:22):
Okay, the month there you go, there you go. You
might still my travel schedule, are you? Does that look
like I know you can't announce these things, Gray, does
that look like it might be a big new kickoff game.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
I can't announce anything, but I would say there's a
high probability that.
Speaker 8 (34:35):
I will be Yes, Okay, okay, well that makes me
feel good.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Well listen aby, we'll be watching later on tonight. Again.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
Congrats Amazon Primes coverage of Thursday night football.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
You can see alber Breer there.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
You can also read his stuff on if he's the
lead content strategist and seen oranif a reporter at the
MMQB and you get him on x at Albert Breer
always fine, Now we'll do it again next week.
Speaker 8 (34:58):
All right, Thanks a good week. There.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
These might smell a little fun case how does that
sounds incredible? But they're still good. Time to find out
what's left. It's Lee's left Joe RBS. All right, we got.
Speaker 6 (35:57):
Lee, all right, let's see what we got in here
for leftover. Springfield, Ohio's Wittenberg University has canceled all athletic
events in relation to the pet eating rumors have caused
a number of bomb threats, at least thirty three. So
everything's being canceled through the weekend. All the athletic activities
and classes have been moved to online.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
I mean, here's the problem with social media and then
really the Internet in general is I don't know that
anyone's saying this is happening all the time there, but
there are instances where it has happened. Yes, Unfortunately they're
not accurately displaying where it's happened.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Like one of the videos that went viral about this
was actually from like Canon, Ohio, so not the same town.
You know, there have been other incidents and videos that
have come out now that maybe there's some truth to
it happening a handful of times, but that's I don't
think that's the point of what people are trying to
get that. But either way, it's a crazy scene situation.
(37:00):
How Springfield, Ohio has now gotten so much attention just
all coming off of the presidential debate.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
I wish we could at some point in time and
not we because I think, you know, I try and
do a decent job of this, but some people that
are so in the weeds with some of this stuff.
If you could just take a couple of steps back
and just look as a whole and realize, this is
a really weird time in this country. Like there's just
some weird stuff going on, Like you don't know what
(37:27):
to believe. You know, now we've got Ai, You've got
like all the other stuff that goes along with it.
Like every time you go on social media, there's some
story that you go, wait, what, Like it's it's not
just Florida anymore.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Everybody, Like you can't just play in Florida. It's everywhere,
Like the weirdness, it's everywhere. And that situation is probably
for another channel and other stations, So we will move
on to whatever else Lee's gotten next. Got all right,
well we got back here.
Speaker 6 (37:55):
You guys missed this, But me and Lorena we're talking
with LeVar on our rapid radios.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Uh just a few minutes ago.
Speaker 6 (38:02):
He uh, he was an hour off, but he was
was telling him to get at LeVar Island before his fight.
He says he's gonna wait until he gets there state College.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
There's such a bad influence. Lee, what are you talking about.
I'm a good friend. He's with this kid. He's not
going on a plane. He's not flying the plane. Oh
Jesus my gosh. Sometimes you just don't want to be
drunk in front of your kid, you know. Yeah, Look,
I ain't got no kids.
