Yeah, we're an hour three.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
We got a Dean Blandino coming up in about twenty
minutes from now, so hopefully, hopefully Dean, you know, he'st
heard all sorts of conspiracy theories. There's another one out
there regarding the Chiefs potentially, and just you know, there's
there's stuff out there with Blandino we'll get into. But
one of the things we were discussing earlier was whatever
(01:51):
you called that Monday night football game last night between
the Niners and the Carolina Panthers. The San Francisco Niners
forty nine ers win that game, they will be traveling
to Cleveland now to take on shad Or Sanders and
the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Coming up this weekend.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
As LeVar said the Browns will win that game outright,
even though they're six point underdogs.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Uh, and yeah, he will. I'll throw for three hundred plus.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
I mean that game sticks picks.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Which, by the way, we got to give our Tomorrow
is a busy day. We've got to do Quinn's wins
and we got to give our picks against the spread tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
That's right, it's not going on, miss Rater. Are you
out of here after today?
Speaker 5 (02:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (02:33):
I start my drive to Familiar right after the show.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
So nice, safe travels and enjoy it.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yea. Who do we got filling in? Mark?
Speaker 6 (02:42):
I haven't looked, okay.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Ma mighty Mark.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Than Yeah, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Why do they get so pumped up Lorena?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Oh because it's Mark.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
We just try to hype up everyone Marks of the Mighties.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Hey, come on, I'm being so smooth bro.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Now, there is some good news when it comes to
the NFC South, which the Carolina Panthers have.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
The good news is.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Uh Baker Mayfield, who left Sunday Night's debacle against the Rams.
He was diagnosed with a low grade ac joint sprain
in his non throwing shoulder. He is uncertain for this
weekend's game against the Cardinals. But it's good news. It
wasn't anything more serious. There is an opportunity for him
(03:39):
to potentially give it a go this weekend. And more
good news the Tampa Bay Buccaneers schedule down the stretch
with them sputtering I think they've lost four or five
is kind of a joke. So Tampa Bay looks like
with the Carolina loss last night, they're still in control
of that division. They do play the Panther's twice coming
(04:01):
up down the stretch. That'll probably determine that division and
who gets into the postseason. But Cardinals, Saints, Falcons, Dolphins,
very manageable schedule for the Buccaneers, who are going to
host a playoff game after they win the division and
probably lose like they did last year as well too.
So that is your right, your quick update there on
(04:23):
the NFC South. The division stinks.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
What do you want? You know, been like that for
a while, I mean.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
I ain't great. Yeah, that's all you got on the
Jonas thought a little more in that time.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
I didn't know it was a solo show. You know,
there would be some input from others on the show, but.
Speaker 7 (04:44):
OK, we will you just set up mad the division stinks, Like,
why do you want us to talk about it?
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Then?
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Well, I mean, take the conversation wherever you want to
take the conversation.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
We can go wherever you want, where you want to go.
Speaker 7 (04:56):
I mean, here's one thing I've noticed is Jonas hates
college football. He would rather talk about NFL all day.
So what is this, LeVar?
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Tell tell me it's not true.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
You know, I don't know. I don't pay attention to
y'all enough. I don't care. This is what I'll say.
This is what I'll say about this NFC conversation. The
Buccaneers and the Panthers are tied the top of the South.
That is all I need to know, because I would
have thought it would have been between the Bucks and
(05:29):
the Falcons. The Falcons can't get out of their own
way for one reason or another. The Buccaneers I thought
would have been better. They've dealt with injuries, but they've
still found a way to win. And while I'll say
being one game above five hundred isn't what I would
have thought for the Bucks, I mean, they're still still
(05:53):
above five hundred and at the top. Panthers are the
biggest surprise because I didn't expect them to be you know,
second and in position to possibly get a wild card
berth into the playoffs. I don't think that they're a
very good team. I don't see them being super competitive.
(06:13):
And and you know who is the Bryce Young experiment
over after this year or as we mentioned earlier in
the show, are they going to find somebody to go
with Tetuoa on the outside to throw the ball to.
I mean, there's a lot of question marks with the Panthers,
Like I said, the Falcons. There's a lot of question
(06:34):
marks with the Falcons. And the Saints have already gone
like the flushed like if the other teams are swirling
around the commote, the Saints have already gone into the
hole like you know, it's they're not even worth worth
discussing if you if you ask.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Me, you have a justin Tucker's got to try out? Okay,
So there, so there you go.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Is that the angle you want to take? Just yea
is now back? I mean that's super interesting.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
You guys go ahead, all right?
Speaker 4 (07:07):
If I child, can I get some music please?
Speaker 7 (07:08):
And as I transition into something that will actually help
us further for this long.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
I feel like any sort of music, any game show music.
Speaker 6 (07:15):
Yeah, give me two seconds, one more second, one more second, more.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Second, all right, two more seconds. Yeah, that's worse.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Oh wow, all right, oh wow.
Speaker 7 (07:25):
Let's get a little funky here with a little college
football storyline roundup, if you guys would like to react
to it. A name that probably hasn't been talked about
in quite some time, although was somewhat prolific during his
period coaching.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Was ar Briles. He has been hired as.
Speaker 7 (07:42):
The new head football coach at Eastern New Mexico. Remember
he's a two time Big twelve champion, it was more
than nine years ago. But look, there's a bit of
a pass there, given how he handled some things during
his time at Baylor in regards to some sexual assault allegations,
which is one of the reasons why he's been held
out from coaching. I think he actually had a couple
(08:06):
of opportunities in the past that unfortunately didn't go well
for him. But this is a Division two school for
those of you that doesn't know Eastern New Mexico.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
They play on the Lone Star Conference.
Speaker 7 (08:16):
But I don't want to say controversial, but a coach
who obviously has the coaching chops getting a second chance finally,
so keeping on Eastern New Mexico and ar Briles too
if they have some success. For like some of these
programs who are very much in need, would be willing
to move on. Next up, college football is extending its
(08:42):
deadline for the format changes. Remember, there's been a big
debate between going from twelve to fourteen potentially to sixteen teams.
That decision was supposed to come December first, however, now
it's been pushed back to January twenty third of twenty
twenty six, so more time for the powers that be
to face you're out.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
How to expand the college football Playoff.
Speaker 7 (09:04):
If they did so, there's a number of things they
have to factor into consideration, probably the biggest being though,
how did they go about formatting this? Is it going
to be automatic bids, which the Big Ten and some
of their conferences are in favor of, or five conference
champs and eleven at large bids if it was a
sixteen team playoff, which the SEC is more pushing four.
(09:25):
There's even a talk of a twenty four team format
that would include ultimate qualifiers. This would most likely get
rid of some of the conference championship games, as given
the calendar, you'd most likely have to use up that
conference championship weekend, So we'd probably go back to having
the regular season conference games decide who actually won the
conference championship. But I'm not sure that do people care
(09:48):
about conference championships anymore?
Speaker 2 (09:50):
By the way, I don't know, I mean not really.
Speaker 7 (09:54):
I don't all Like, last year Ohio State didn't beat
the rival didn't win the Big Ten championship, the national championship.
Does anyone talk about that? Does anyone care?
Speaker 1 (10:03):
It's kind of the byproduct of expansion, and once you
give teams more windows and more opportunities to get in,
then you kind of, you know, maybe some of those games.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
I still think the rivalries matter.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Like some people worried about the rivalries, like, oh, well,
you know, if you make the regular season less relevant
than maybe the rivalries won't matter as much. I think,
I think that's crap. It's rivalry weekend people are gonna care.
But conference championships I think it probably fallen a little
bit down the priority of this.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
So just quick history on the conference championships.
Speaker 7 (10:35):
Remember Ohio State when they first got in the first
year of the college football playoff, they leap frog both
Baylor and TCU. Why well, because they drummed Wisconsin in
the Big Ten championship game, and it just so happened
Baylor and TCU weren't playing that weekend. Big Twelve didn't
have a conference championship, and at the time they were
also going with the slogan one True Champion, which is
(10:56):
a little bit ironic because they couldn't decide between Baylor
and TCU given there was no conference championship game, so
they end up being co champions, and in so doing so,
they lost out on the chance to play for a
national championship. Ohio State goes it as the four seed
and wins it all that year, so that obviously prompted
the Big Twelve to bring back their conference championship. But
(11:19):
we may be venturing back to a place where it's
all based on what the teams do in the regular season,
so we could get some more co champions whether or
not that matters, that's one thing you bring up.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
The topic of rivalries.
Speaker 7 (11:31):
Has it though, Like I think rivalries matter still to
the fans, and this kind of ties into the conversation
about Lane Kiffin and players and just the life of
a college football player.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
Coach can be so transient.
Speaker 7 (11:47):
I don't know that the players care quite as much,
or even the coaches for that matter, because they're focused.
And just take Ohio State Michigan for example. And people
may take issue with this, but again, if you're a
Buckeyes fan and you won the national championship last year,
which would you rather have? Would you have rather beat
Michigan and not have a national championship? And I realized,
(12:08):
like those two things like aren't mutually exclusive.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
They could have both happened. You'd like to have everything.
Speaker 7 (12:13):
Where you beat Michigan, you win the Big Ten Championship,
you win a national championship. Maybe Ohio State does that
this year, but at least using last year as an example,
would you have rather won that Ohio State Michigan game
and then potentially lost in the playoff or would you
rather have the national championship and take they all?
Speaker 3 (12:29):
I've made that argument plenty of times, and y'all sat
there and tracked to convince me that they want to
take the Michigan game.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
I would say, fans, hold on, I would say, fans,
do I think the coaches and players want the national championship?
Speaker 4 (12:43):
And I think that's where there's a disconnect.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Well, if you're at how are you disconnected fans all
wanting the national title versus because you live.
Speaker 7 (12:53):
You live with having to deal with that with Michigan
fans just north of you or Michigan fans all around you,
and that impacts your daily life.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
If you're Will Howard, you're a national chance. But yeah,
if you're Will Howard, I'm a national champion. You only
played Michigan once as part of the rivalry. But if
you're one of those others guys like Marvin Harrison Junior
talked about this and how much it bothered him not
ever beating Michigan, Like yeah, those guys who are part
of that rivalry, Like, yeah, you want a national title
(13:26):
on the end, but you lost your ass every time
you played your arch rival.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
That would that would bother me, like that would.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Eat But you're a national champion.
Speaker 7 (13:35):
Yeah, But yeah, well understand what because here's the problem
is you're talking from the player's perspective. You're not sogging
from a fan perspective. So I just I think there's
there's a difference people who are fanatics.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
You're better if you're better off winning a rival game
versus winning at all, you're a weirdo. I'm just telling
you right now. Man, if you're a weirdo to that's
listening to this show right now and you think I'm
a weirdo saying this, I don't care your your your
your opinion is Nolan void and the form of sensibility
(14:12):
of thought and and comptents in my mind like that
is ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
What happened to the music.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
It was really good too, by the way, all right,
we're back the little that's that's Here's the one issue
with this is LeVar is a Pennsylvania guy, penn Stater
or through and through uh doesn't probably feel.
Speaker 7 (14:35):
The same way as Ohio State Michigan A lungs do
and and people from both those states.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Yeah, you could throw that out there, and the sense
the sense that that is lacking for their Ohians and
and Michigan eese uh is ridiculous.
Speaker 7 (14:52):
Can as soon as Penn State starts beating either one consistently, well.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
And that's can This line is if that's what you
want as a when you're weird.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Okay, let me ask you this.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Let me ask you this is that exclusive to the
Ohio State Michigan game because the okay, the Iron Bowl,
I feel like Alabama and Auburn it's not on the
same level, Like no other rivalry in college football is
on the same level to where I don't think losing the.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Tree dout like I ain't going to say there's another
rivalry that that's on the level of the Ohio State
Michigan hate for one another, well one of an Oregon.
I mean Alabama people killed a tree. Yeah, they poisoned
the damn tree.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
I don't remember the yeah, and that guy's dead now,
so I mean, listen to him and the tree are
both dead. But I just I think that it's different
for some the Ohio State Michigan rivalry. I think that
far is far past any other rivalry from the standpoint
that if you lose to them but still won a
(15:58):
national title, it takes luster off the.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
K off the trophy.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
You're trying to make the point that because that's the
biggest rivalry and football or even in sport. It's not
in sport. I mean, it's up there though, But what
you're trying to say that that that that what is it?
What are you trying to justify? It still does not
justify a fan being okay with with with what you
(16:24):
guys are saying. If you win the national title and
you're a national champion, that's what you play for. But
that is what you play for.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
We understand different.
Speaker 7 (16:37):
We're not trying to convince you to think how these
fans do.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
We're not. So you can feel that way. I agree
with you.
Speaker 7 (16:44):
That's how I feel like coaches and players are talking
about that game now.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
But if you go back twenty years, that.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
Game ultimately meant before the BCS largely who was going
to have a shot to winning national championship, largely who
was going to win the Big Ten championship, And it
didn't mean that shot to go play for it all
with the expanded playoff the twelve.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
It's not the case any of this.
Speaker 7 (17:08):
So you guys this, We've got two more stories we've
got to get to. We got Dean Blandino coming up.
Are we beating a dead horse here? Because it feels
like we are.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
I'm just curious. Does NIL change this? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (17:19):
Of course, getting page.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
What the rivalry represents will Will the players continue to
embrace it like they did in years past? Or does
an il ruin.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
That it doesn't ruin it.
Speaker 7 (17:32):
It definitely changes the dynamic where it's not everything while
you go play for a place, right, that's part of it.
All right, let's move on since not athletic director John
Cunningham he issued an apology to BYU. Obviously b YU
went in Saturday night beat Cincinnati in their place, but
it was more for a chant that was going on
during the game.
Speaker 4 (17:52):
There is a lot of f wards used, but f
the Mormons.
Speaker 7 (17:56):
And this is after, by the way, after the church offday,
Saints had donated twenty seven thousand.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Pounds of food to the UC campus pantry.
Speaker 7 (18:07):
So that is why the Cincinnati athletic director John Cunningham
is issuing an apology to BYU and the Church of
Jesus Christ Laturday Saints this past Monday. By the way,
this is something that BYU does often. They helped fundraise
for many different charitable ventures. So credits at BYU the
church as well for helping out with that.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Obviously, the athletic director is trying to make nice.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
And all that, by the way, is skyline chili.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
That bad that some Mormons had to donate food so
people can get a decent meal there.
Speaker 7 (18:36):
All I know is Portnoy likes it, So there's that.
And then the last story we've got is LSU. LSU's
conduct has made it nearly impossible, apparently for Brian Kelly
to land another job.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
This is coming from Brian Kelly's attorneys.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
Now, this most likely has to do with the fact
that he wasn't formally or the school claims he wasn't
formally terminated, which has made this thing extremely messy as
obviously Brian Kelly needs to be terminated before he can
look for another job, and there's most likely a clause
within his contract in order for him to earn out
that fifty four million, he has to actively be seeking
(19:15):
to go look for another job and prove that he's
doing so, are you buying into that Brian Kelly has
been impacted by the firing process of LSU that has
caused him not to be looked at for another job.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
No, this is like when you're filing for unemployment, you
got to prove every other week that you're applying for
jobs elsewhere, even though you're not really applying for him,
just you know, kind of fill out an application half asset,
give your wrong phone numbers so they don't call you.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Back for the gig. He just wants to golf, that's all.
He wants. Smart play, though, he just wants to golf.
Let the guy golf, let him.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Bark, play strategically smart play. He positions himself well with
what he's got going on with LSU about doing this
further edit motivation to figure out what to do with Kelly.
If you're at LSU, I would assume.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
All right, last one and this one is a wild one.
Speaker 7 (20:09):
All right, Georgia has just dismissed backup offensive lineman, and
now you're Daniels, I believe is how it's pronounced. On Monday,
after his arrest, he was allegedly driving more than a
one hundred and fifty miles per hour while attempting to
flee police. I don't know what it is in Georgia,
but a lot of driving violations for none of their players.
(20:30):
Here's the interesting thing, though, somehow his mom got in
the way of all this.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
She was trying to basically.
Speaker 7 (20:41):
Interfere with him and chasing him down and try to
figure out everything else.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
So mom was defending him, denying.
Speaker 7 (20:50):
Some of what he was accused of in the past
with the different officers.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
Police officers which.
Speaker 7 (20:57):
I feel like she's just trying to be a mom,
even though she's kind of got drugged in there.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
What you do, throw a spike strip down, make sure
the cop blew attire so they couldn't get to him.
What's the fastest you guys have ever driven? If I
tried to go one to fifty in my truck, it
would disappear.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
I bet you can't get a up ninety And I think.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
No, no, yeah, no, no chance. Yeah, it starts shaking.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Then like one five, one twing fave and that was it. Yeah,
that was fast. That was in a medina though.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
Well, anyway, his mom got charged along with him, by
the way for the inside.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
I knew that's where you were hit, and she became
a necessory to the situation. Huh.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Correct.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
It's a good mom though that she's just looking out
for a son. She did a great job raising him.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
The driving is a bit concerned.
Speaker 7 (21:46):
I'm not sure what Kirby Smore has him doing down there,
because it seems like every single year we've got multiple
multiple like driving issues going on.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
Yeah. Oh, just because the kid drafts fast doesn't mean
he's poorly raised.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
Yeah, well, I mean listen, Sesame Street helped raise all
of us, so now it's our turn donate this holiday
season at Sesame dot org. Because the world needs Sesame,
and Sesame needs you, and we need Dean Blandino and
he's yours right here on FSR.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
And you need game days to rule. And when you
add the handcrafted tang of the original Louisiana Hot Sauce
to your food, it doesn't matter what day it is.
It becomes a little more like a game day. Pour
our hand crafted recipe on pizza and you'll feel like
(22:34):
leaping up from the recliner to clap. Drop it on
wings and every bite will hit with the same euphoria
you feel when your team's wide out toe drags for
a touchdown. Dash the simple three ingredients of the original
Louisiana Hot Sauce onto your plate, and you'll turn any
old Tuesday into a tailgate, complete with all the crawl
(22:59):
fish you can stuck in your face. With almost one
hundred years of legacy of turning winning dishes into championship ones,
the original Louisiana Hot Sauces kind of like your foods
Lucky Jersey, So no matter what day it is, don
your team's colors, Fire up the grill and grab the
(23:20):
original Louisiana Hot sauce and add a little game day
to every day. That's Louisiana Hot. May us home.

Blandino near you at Dean Blandino on x He's Fox Sports,
NFL and college football rules analyst, and he's our guy, Dean,
Good morning.
Speaker 5 (25:25):
Good morning. You know when when learned to Skate USA
aid their hard earned money to do that that advert.
I don't think they signed up for the Godfather impressions.
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Yeah, hey, you know you're not wrong, Dane.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
Seven kids, just seven kids just quit the program.
Speaker 7 (25:44):
But anyway, this is the seven more I got to
ask you. Unfortunately you had to be back in studio.
Was it last week what I was calling a game
instead of out on the road with your best friend Tom?
Speaker 4 (25:56):
How difficult was that for you?
Speaker 5 (25:59):
It was very different golf? It was it was you know,
the the romance is still going strong. He texted me
how much he missed me. You know, I texted him
how much I missed him. You know, we talked a little,
you know, football life, everything it was. You know, we
kept it, we kept it going, maybe facetimed a couple
(26:19):
of times, but we're back. We were back there.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (26:21):
So I have a follow up question on this because
I was not aware of this, but apparently you called
was you called him Brady or you called.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
Him I called Drew Breese Brady. But it wasn't even
because of Tom Brady. Was because I had just talked
to you, because you were with Jason Bennetti and I
I just talked to you, and then I went on
with Drew and Adam Amine and Drew he kind of
(26:50):
sound a little bit alike, and I called him Brady. Yep.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Yeah, sorry, I'm sure you took that well.
Speaker 3 (26:59):
Mm hmm, Dean, real will all good?
Speaker 1 (27:04):
Dean, what was your thought on the Noah Gray third
and eight play in the Chiefs Colts game and which
Shane Steigen said he was going to challenge the ruling
of a catch, but replay assists stepped in and said
that it was ruled to catch. And I know people
are looking at that going, well, you know, he looked
like he was out and concussed and banged up a
(27:26):
little bit, but it seemed like he did catch it.
I mean he was kind of lifeless on the ground,
but the ball hadn't ground. So where do you stand
on that play specifically?
Speaker 5 (27:37):
Yeah, I just think we were in this replaced this
world where it's getting a little Markie in terms of
when they assist when they don't. I mean, the key is,
it's got to be so obvious right away where you
don't even really have to do any analysis. You just
you see it. Okay, balls on the ground, they ruled
(27:57):
it a catch, it's clearly incomplete to let them know.
And then and then the idea and the theory is
is it's a good theory. It's it's it's there's logic
there to just prevent the coach's challenge. It's an obvious mistake,
let's correct it. But now we're getting into this world
where you know, there was a play Sunday night with
the Rams and Bucks and and it's assisted, and then
(28:19):
it's not it's that's not correct, and the coach then
doesn't challenge. So I think we're in this world where
I didn't think that was clear and obvious either way.
Sometimes you do see that when when the when the
receiver gets gets injured or shaken up, sometimes they just
voluntarily put, you know, let the ball go. So I
(28:39):
think we got to kind of just continue to figure
out this replay assisting and just make it clear for everybody.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Dean, Why wasn't that uh Pickings big catch and run
to set up the gang winning field goal? A pick call?
What I mean? And maybe you didn't see it, So
if you didn't see it, it's okay. But I thought
it was a blatant pick and and it cleared. It
cleared Pickings enough to get the ball. I don't understand
(29:09):
what constitutes a pick versus what isn't a pick? Was
it was there a pick to zone where it's legal?
Like how you know how is that aid has a
big play for them?
Speaker 5 (29:21):
It's legal within the yard of the line of scrimmage,
so you can you can legally pick. The way the
rule was written, and it's been that way for for
as long as I can remember. It's it's the pass
difference rules kick in, whether it's offense or defense, kicking
beyond the yards from the line of scrimmage. So you
know that was to prevent ticky tack calls where where
(29:41):
you know your press coverage and the receiver and the
defender just trying to put hands on each other to
try to a receiver get into the route, the DV
trying to jam them, and then you just throw a quick,
a quick slan out there and get a cheap call.
You know, if I remember the play correctly, I thought
they the defenders ran into each other. But you know,
(30:02):
if it's if it's beyond the yard then and they're
also looking for for the receiver initiating the contact. If
the receiver is running a route and then there's just
a collision or the dB is initiating the contact, then
then then that's okay. But if the receiver is in
a blocking poster is seeking out that defender, you got
to initiate the contact a beyond the yard b before
(30:25):
the vault is touched, then it's a foul for offense
for past.
Speaker 7 (30:30):
Did I want to ask you about the face mask
violation committed by or quote unquote committed by Juwan Taylor
for the Chiefs. Based on replay, it was pretty evident
nothing really occurred. Why aren't personal fouls all reviewable?
Speaker 5 (30:46):
Yeah, Well, so that's that wasn't a face mask, but
the way they can replace, can get involved and assist
if there's absolutely no contact with the mask the helmets,
so there's any contact, they're not going to make. They're
they're trying to stay out of the subjective part of
that decision, where oh, maybe it was a grass, maybe
it was a graze whatever. It obviously wasn't a face mets.
(31:09):
Probably if anything, it was maybe a hold. But you know,
and we talked about those personal files, those types of
things you review targeting in college, and there's subjective elements
to that. I think if we do open up replay,
I think that's where you start. As you start with
the player safety stuff, you start with the personal fouls.
Those are those are fifteen yard penalties, those are there
(31:31):
are objective elements to those in terms of headneck area
and that type of thing. I think that's where you
should start. I think again, it's I think belief sometimes
is very reactive. So if there's a big miss call
in the in the postseason, I think you'll see you'll
see a big conversation about it. If nothing really happens,
I think they just kind of okay, we're going to
(31:51):
fly under the radar until you know, until we can
so so, just on that.
Speaker 7 (31:55):
Note, why does it always have to be player safety
in order to move the needle with the competition committee?
Why can't it not be the fact that, like, look,
fifteen yard penalties are and you know, automatic first down
are big deals. You know, defensive pass interference, you know,
getting all that yardage and a first down dramatically changes
the game. You know, Why does it always have to
(32:17):
be player safety as opposed to just saying, hey, maybe
we'd like the outcomes to be have more integrity with
the outcomes and not.
Speaker 4 (32:24):
Have these calls dictating games sometimes.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
Well, there's no question book, I think. I don't think
it's always player safety, but player safety definitely when you
look at rules changes.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
I get that.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
I'm with you, I get that.
Speaker 7 (32:36):
I'm just saying it seems like it far outweighs the
element of like the actual outcome of games with betting
involved everything else, Like, why isn't that almost on equal ground?
Speaker 5 (32:46):
And I think that's where we're headed. I really do.
I think with all I mean the amount of conversation
now with betting, I mean people are I mean, my
brother calls me last night. Why is Cleveland punting from
the twenty nine you know, they hit the under might
stop by Kevin Stefan. They're not sitting there going, hey,
we got to get the under. Let's you know what,
(33:07):
let's punt, let's make it. Really, I mean, why they
do it though, I know you could who knows, but
but you just have to. But those questions now are
not It's no longer like like below the surface. Now
it's like just out there and again officiating that that
that is at the heart of the integrity of the
(33:28):
outcome of these games. So there's no question though we
saw passing difference back, you know, in the NFC Championship
back in twenty eighteen, so we have seen them react
to non player safety things. It's gonna have to take
something pretty significant, I think to go down that path.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
But I do.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
I do think we continue with technology, we continue with
all the scrutiny. I do think fifteen yard penalties are
a good place to start, and then you and then
you figure it out from there.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Dean Blandino joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, NFL.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
Five Wars, NFL and College Football.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
Rules analyst with us here. Sorry got miss, I had
a miss. It was two defenders. It wasn't a pick.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
So yeah, that's what I thought. Yeah, I thought when
I watched it live. When I watched it live, I
thought the same thing you thought, LaVar. But then I
thought there was two defenders.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
But yeah, I just looked back at it. Uh. Can
I ask you about the intentional grounding box, like I
know that there's been like questionable deals on on that, Like,
how are we looking at that? We saw one where
it like it was thrown.
Speaker 5 (34:34):
Yeah, yeah, there were two of them that should not
have been grounding anything any any part of the body
or the ball gets outside that pocket, which is tackle
to tackle normal tackle outside shoulder on either side. Once
you get outside that area, that's it. You can throw
the ball. As long as you get it to the
line of scrimmage, you're good. And on both of those,
(34:57):
one was taste some hill. I think its stapped a
his head. I thought he got outside the pocket. And
then the other one once and I think that might
have been cousins. But once you get outside the pocket,
the pocket goes away, there's no more and you could
just get it to the line of scrimmage. So and
and that's subject again to this replay assist deal where
it's like you sit there and you go, wait a minute, okay,
(35:19):
we're supposed to do this, and then you see something
that makes okay, here's here's where they're going to correct it,
and then they don't, which is which is frustrating. And
and and so I thought neither one of those was
was grabbing Dean.
Speaker 1 (35:32):
What's uh, what's the stricter punishment getting spit on or
getting hit in the balls.
Speaker 5 (35:38):
I mean, this was like I know, right last night,
and and I literally I turned the game off during it,
like I'm thinking of the second meal down, so I
missed the whole thing and then obviously caught it on
after the factor. I don't know which I mean. I
think I think it's a I think it's a the
short term on and the nuts hurts more, but then
(36:02):
and then but then the pain goes away eventually, and
then but I think the spinning stays with you. It's
more mental. So, but I think the punishment's got to
be pretty close.
Speaker 3 (36:10):
Do you.
Speaker 7 (36:11):
I want to ask you about the Cooper Manning Show.
I know you took part in that. It was a
pretty pretty good let's skit. You really do have some
good acting chops man.
Speaker 5 (36:18):
Thank you, thank you. They did they but on the
cutting floor, I had one line, one line that I
really wanted to make it into the into the segment,
and it didn't make it because Cooper and I were
kind of going back and forth. They wanted to do
like a two ferns kind of giving each other crap
and I and I said that, hey, when you were
in high school, did Peyton have to take you to
parties because your parents made him? But it didn't make
(36:39):
it didn't make it to the to the segment.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
We had Pete Risk go on before we let you
go yesterday.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
He's an Italian as well too, and he was explaining
just sort of how Italians feel about Thanksgiving. He'd rather
have pizza than a turkey, you'd rather.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
It's just not a big fan. He said.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
It's an Italian delicacy that they used to saute dandelions,
I guess, and put pasta sauce on them like it just.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
Yeah, that was my mom.
Speaker 5 (37:12):
My mother is off the boat. I mean, my mom
came here when she was seventeen from from Benevento in Italy,
so I've never saw dandelions. I've never heard of that.
But I do agree with him. I do agree with him,
and that Thanksgiving has always been we never got to
the turkey. It was always like pasta and lasagnya and
neat balls and all the Italian stuff and then and
(37:33):
then oh yeah, the turkey. But no one like by that.
By that point it was like everybody was swissful.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
Anyway, watch so many courses and a mail for for
Italian people.
Speaker 5 (37:44):
Yeah the way. Yeah, I love that this show has
has morphed into an Italian culture.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
We need that.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
Well, it's just food, right, play the music. It's just
food and family. That's a big part. But there's a
lot of cultures like that. That's that's that that that's
a cross. That's not just Italians. But I think we
just do it. We do it really well.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Well, Dean, uh, enjoy the holiday with the family. We
always appreciate it. Fox Sports NFL College Football Rules Analyst

Speaker 2 (39:49):
All right, getaway Dave for Lorena? What's going on?
Speaker 5 (39:51):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (39:52):
Last one for me this week. You know when you
find a team, you start young, right?
Speaker 5 (39:57):
Well?
Speaker 6 (39:57):
I love I saw this, uh element Tree School in
Philadelphia before the game this past weekend. They actually put
Cowboys players up on boxing pads for their students to
punch and beat up ahead of the game to kind of,
you know, get their aggression out, get a good rivalry going.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
How that work?
Speaker 6 (40:19):
I hope they kept them up so that they could
punch him again on Monday. What do you guys think
of this?
Speaker 2 (40:23):
Yeah, we got that all.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
I didn't catch it, so.
Speaker 6 (40:29):
You don't think it's a good way to start a
good rivalry when they're young, start a good rivalry, you know,
really get them supporting their teams.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
I mean, yeah, I don't know que.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
I don't know que Q is gone? What a show?
Speaker 3 (40:54):
I love?
Speaker 2 (40:54):
I love when that happened. What else we gather?
Speaker 6 (40:57):
Okay, so I saw this yesterday. I know you guys
aren't a big fan of the Savannah and because they're
not real baseball or whatever not, but they do have
a new ticketing system that I think might actually catch on.
So if you buy a Banana's ticket and you no
longer want the ticket, they have a specific site for
their tickets. Oh, welcome back, Brady. They have a specific
site for their tickets, and you can go and resell
(41:19):
at ticket price. Only you cannot do it on behind
the scenes stuff anymore. So those up selling of prices out.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
All right, Like if you bought a Savannah Banana ticket,
I wish I was never here for the segment.
Speaker 6 (41:34):
If we can talk about my first topic.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Again, Yeah, I would assume that if you bought a
ticket to the Savannah Banas, you're you're gonna try and
get to that game no matter what.
Speaker 6 (41:48):
I wanted to go so bad, it was so good.
The one I missed here in La oh, the one
in San Diego.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
Why do you just go to a Dodger game? Watch
an actual team.
Speaker 6 (41:56):
Moncy, let's go to another Dodger game.
Speaker 7 (41:58):
Totally yes, to go to top golf before that, It
would be a great little knife for you guys, Vegas,
ves and Vegas.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 6 (42:08):
What else you got, Ray, Well, this one's real fast.
But US Weekly actually is starting to think that the
Chiefs can't win unless Taylor Swift is there. So I'll
let you guys sit on that for a couple of days.
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving, eat all the less odors.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
Yeah, all right,
