(00:48):
hey b Feroni cowboy, Okay, wait to get in there.
Let me just say this about Jonah's song selections.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
I'll start by saying that whenever Var is not here,
it's just Jonas's you know, iPhone own his playlist every
single time. I want you to know that Var endure
everything that you heard in our one. Oh yeah, I
have to endure that. Every single segment's ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Oh, Jonas's songs are the absolute worst, like yours are
the worst. I'm sorry you sensitive today? Are you sensient? Mood.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
I take it back, Jonas, They're not as bad as
I say they are. They're just not good man, so
good Damn?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
What are these drops? I don't know what is that
coming from? Was just counting it today. Sounds like somebody
watching him? Oh nothing, never mind? What nothing? Sunday nights?
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, sure, by the way, we address this Sunday night.
But at the end of the Bear is forty nine
Ers game, yep, Sunday night. I'm texting with Jonas. You
know he's a Bears fan, so I'm trying to get
a reaction out of it.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Oh sees, I'm saying, what was I don't know, you
really know how to? I don't so get it.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
I'm texting him and he's acting unresponsive. But his one
text back to me was sorry, we were taping something,
which their show doesn't come on until after that game.
So I know he's lying. I know he was watching
the end of the game, and obviously it wasn't the
outcome that he was hoping for, especially for his picks.
(02:34):
But why can't you just admit it.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
That that's not a lie? We do they do drops?
They do like the little bumps like coming up. We
have to there's a watch they go through the you're
watching the game, Jonas, No, you're watching we're watching it
in and out. I wasn't watching all of it because
we were going through rehearsals for stuff we had to
tape an interview that we were going to air like this,
So you didn't watch the end of that game.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Yeah, but it's going back and forth like is he
he didn't make time to respond to you exactly.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
That's what he didn't want to deal with me. Give
him a hard time, kicks. I don't even remember what
the standings are on our picks. I don't care. Crady
does these drive buys, and it's he's one of those
guys who want it's not just one text all. Look
at my phone and they're seven in a row. Because
(03:25):
he types so much faster than you can't do. It's
like a speedbag. Your thumbs so clearly his thumbs move
as quickly as his fingers too. Dang, like his thumb's
never got Mali finger. I know that for a fast
because nobody texts faster than him. Don't your thumbs get
Mali finger They can't get Mali fingers. I don't think
(03:48):
you could. You possibly could wait, do you have malfinger
on your phone?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
I don't know, but because it's usually at your distal joint,
like to your last joint at the top of your fingers, right,
but you had that again. Here's here's what I texted him.
I'm reading this from our text.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
That is the m v P brother, that's the secret
weapon man.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
That Matt is.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Board this well right here, Dad, you could just go off.
That's just hey, yo, oh there's nothing there and my
pig should be yeah, all right.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Move on, move on, move on. I would have tried
to save that, but that was to move on m
v P. What are picks? By the way, are we?
Is it just a rap? Brady's gonna win the regular?
Sha you want?
Speaker 2 (04:41):
You want a LeVar had a chance of having a
winning week and then that went by the wayside, and
then you you could.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Have been five hundred, but then you you didn't. So
it's like Knox Locks, oh and three this week completely fell. Yeah,
you were one in four, one and four in rs
knock he did have a tie. Now I'm back to
a little five hundred in Knox Locks for the year
based on this. Stop caring, so it doesn't You're in
(05:11):
third place in ours. LeVar has overtaken you. Oh wow, yeah, thang, yeah,
it's not good man. You get one more week though,
I know, but it's week eighteen. You don't know what
you're getting. It's like betting the preseason's true. You really
got to stick to the games where teams are playing
for it all, like Seattle, San fran I'm.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Just glad I've overtaken you, because to finish behind you would.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Be Yeah, Levar's on top of you, Jonas. I'm on
top of you, my guy, and Justas is behind you.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
You don't want to be. I'm not.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
He's not behind me. You're under under behind, No, No,
he's under I don't do the whole behind thing. But
you can be under me though.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
On this note, LeVar Jonas has given me a hard
time for having not picked some of these bowl games
because he thinks I'm sitting on a on a above
five hundred record for college football war No.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
I told him.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
I said, I'm gonna pick the games that they're real games,
the ones in the playoff, because no one has.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Any clue who's played in the exhibition bowl games.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
That's fair, yeah, but it's fun if you enjoy winning, dude,
Booga McFarlane was out there talking about the running back
for By you didn't play in the game.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
That was like, it's key to the game. Really well,
it was announced like days prior and he's like, that
was just key to the game. They took away that
palette jack he used to ride around on the sidelines.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
He was like, yeah, Lja, more than key to the
Game's like, well, you ain't playing, so good luck at that.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Nears of that. So when are we got to get
Quinn's wins? Does that happening tomorrow? Tomorrow? Okay, because dude,
we gotta wait for the final line movement, the whole thing. Yeah, tomorrow,
we're on for the Dan Patrick Show. So this is
the last appearance for us in this time slot this year.
Are nice, It's been a fun one man. Get to sleep.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
I mean, I can, I can already tell you the
spread wise what I'm doing if you want. I mean,
this is faced on the last time I looked at it.
Tell us I take Miami in the points, Bama and
the points. I'm laying the points with Oregon and who's
the last game is old Miss Georgia.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
I'm laying the Points of Georgia. When's when's time? How
about the Mapples Jonas some Miami and the Points Oregon? Okay,
makes sense? Who's Orgon? Organ's playing Georgia. Yeah, that's going.
(07:38):
Organ's got Texas Tech, Texas Tech Text Oregon. Sorry, sorry,
sorry text. I was picturing old miss my I'm slipped deprived.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Dude, ask right now hanging there like that, good fight?
I got my fifth coming in today, if if, if
the weather holds on vodka?
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Huh?
Speaker 4 (07:59):
Not a fifth of drinking? Like you know, you're a
one kid. You're a one kid person. My kid and
oldest child of them all, who's not a child anymore.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
My girls were completely judging me yesterday for having a
few spice.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Margarita's at lunch. They're like, Daddy, how many more are
you gonna have? I go? However many Daddy wants? All right,
we're on vacation, damn street. That's crazy because my kids
make my drinks. Daddy's thirsty. Well what do you want, dad?
What will it be? My kids are already bartenders. What
(08:36):
are you gonna go for?
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Today?
Speaker 1 (08:38):
We go on the rocks again? Area have another And
that's a true story, all of them can make my drinks.
Speaker 6 (08:47):
All of them put that on a resume one day.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Well, the one is now working at a restaurant in
state college. So she's got a job. Ley's got a job,
the bug so and she's going to start training to
be none other. Then oh, that's great, need of a
good start. So there you go for either a host,
(09:10):
a hostess, or or a bartender. And I was like, listen,
if you're hosting, you get an opportunity to speak to
your community and your fan base one person at a
time every time somebody comes in, so make sure you
have a good exchange interaction. You get to split the
difference via cocktail waitress. That way you don't have to
worry about just greeting people. The money's better. And then
(09:32):
you don't see a bar.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
They don't have car cocktail waitresses there because it's like
a restaurant restaurant. It's not like they use cocktail waitress
like waitresses, Like, it's not like a cocktail waitress. Yeah,
so it's either that or you know, get a bartending
gig and that's you know, you'll get good tips if
you're connecting with the people you're serving at the bar.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
So especially especially if they know. Uh, she's an Arrington
roy there in that town.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
I don't know about all that, but I do know
that my fifth is coming in this this evening, and
that's I'm going to have them all there for for
New Years.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
That would be pretty cool. Yeah, sweet, the.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Big one, the big billy goat the twenty five year old.
Yeah yeah, can you imagine that I have a twenty
five year old I'm old man, that's wild, isn't that crazy?
I was seven when he was born.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Dang.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Yeah, that kind of put it into respective right there.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Him kind of did, kind of did so. Basically, I'm
kind of old enough to it's even my kid. I'm
kind of old enough to be your dad. Yeah you
are definitely, geez, your uncle at least YO daddy, your daddy.
Speaker 7 (10:44):
He's the daddy.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Well, here we go. Let's see what's going with Max Crosby.
Uh he plays for a crappy team. Uh yeah, it's
that's what it is. I mean, the Raiders didn't even
try and hide it like it's not even Nope.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
And the part about let the giants thumpy like that, geez.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
The part about Max Crosby that I guess I look
at and go. We just accept that this is okay.
Is the fact that they send the guy home because well,
his knee is banged up. He's got to get surgery
out of his knee. It's like, okay, well he suffered
the injury in October, he's been playing through it. He
wants to keep playing, and there was like no, no, no,
just he just can't give it a go. And then
(11:23):
he goes to social media later on at night and
he's posting videos of him, you know, playing basketball at home,
you know, wrestling and playing with his daughter, just letting
everybody know, hey, this is BS. Talk to Jay Glazer said,
I'm not happy with the organization. This is crap. I
don't care about the net. So they're openly tanking and
it's just accepted. It's just all, yeah, like this is
(11:46):
you know, this is what they've got to do just
for the possibility of getting the number one pick to
possibly land the quarterback that's going to change the future
of the franchise. And everybody's just kind of okay with it.
It's just like this is just accepted that they will
blatantly do this, send a guy home who wants to play,
and we're just alright with it.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
It's just your best player that wants to play.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Is this two years in a.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Row now the Giants have basically given up the number
one pick by winning I.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Don't remember what was two years? What was last year?
I don't remember. I remember what's his name? Did it love?
He didn't love? You do something like that? By winning
the last game that was when he was with and
it gave Chicago the number one overall pick, which, in hindsight,
because they got.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Now it's he might have done the biggest favor in
Chicago Bears history.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Well, they actually traded that pick to Carolina, and Carolina
used it to take Bryce Young and then the next
year the Bears they were just bad on their own
or and well, Carolina gave them their first round pick
and then the Bears ended up with Carolina's number one,
which turned into Caleb Williams. That was a lot of
(13:03):
a lot of back and forth.
Speaker 4 (13:05):
I tuned out, Actually, yeah, Like I wasn't even their
version better man, I wasn't with any of you though,
Like I wasn't there.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
I just really like zoned out for two seconds. Like
if you would have said your life depends on you
being able to repeat what you just said back. I'll
be out of here man.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Yeah, dude, By the way, you should have remembered this.
The Giants stuck out to a car with the number
three overall picks.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
They did, I believe you remember that. I believe they weren't.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Positioned at one point did have the number one pick.
And I think they won one or two games at
the end of the season last year to make the difference.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Isn't that the case? No, it was.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
It's just just like revisionist history. I could have sworn
that happened last year.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
I don't know. And guess what. Usually Jonas is more
up on this, Well, guess what happened. Uh, the Giants
are still bad this year, and the Raiders are still bad,
and they don't have the same coach. And I don't
care if it's Fernando Mendoza or whoever you are, Fernando Tatis. Yeah,
fixing that nobody. That's a bad team and it's a
(14:06):
bad organization. And just the idea that, oh, well, we'll
just land a quarterback and everything will be fine. Okay,
remember when they fired Chip Kelly and that was going
to fix things. Okay, Just it's not a one player
away issue, Like, at least with the Giants, you think
you like the quarterback position and you think you have
(14:27):
some talent there and maybe there's something to work with.
It is an organization who has in years past shown
the ability to win and be successful and be stable.
I don't know what the hell you're getting with the Raiders.
But do you think Carroll's going to be back? No, no,
he will not be. But back to the Giants thing,
all right, they lost.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Ten straight and then in week seventeen beat the Colts,
which then launched them out of the number one overall pick,
and then lost to Philly to finish the season. Which
to your point about the Giants situation going back to
last year, they have had a like the run of
just unfortunate outcomes. But it feels like the Raiders, and
(15:05):
really the Giants, if we're going to throw them in
this conversation, regardless of what they do at the quarterback
spot where the darts the guy or not, there are
so many other issues with these teams than just the quarterback,
so it's not really gonna matter who they take, especially
with the Raiders.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Man, So if you look at Tankathon right now, tell
me if you've heard these names near the top of
the draft before, right, The Raiders, sure, the Giants, the Jets, Titans,
sounds about right, Yep, the Cardinals, yep, the Browns. You
know what I mean, like, sounds about right. It's all right,
(15:43):
usual suspect for every team that has to Like when
you say, oh, well here have you heard this before
about elite teams and you start running off elite teams,
I mean, somebody's got to be the non elite teams,
you know, And those ones you just named are they're
up there. Those are the consistent ones that lately that
you have to say for the top of the draft. Yeah,
(16:06):
and yet Banana Mendoza is going to get there, and
he's going to have to take the blame for teams
that stink. Just like cam Ward sure, yeah, just like Shador. Yeah,
high draft pick. I mean Chador delivered a win though
for or they was worried about Miles.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
I mean he has one of the two, maybe both,
maybe both don't have to be One doesn't have to
be untrue for the other to be true.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
Mike Tomlin disagreed with you. No, I heard it. I
heard it. Yeah, there's some speculation Brady that the Steelers
are more focused on stopping Miles Garrett from breaking the
record than trying to actually win that game. Doesn't that
work hand in hand? Isn't stopping Miles Garrett part of
(16:56):
the game plan to win the game? Yes? But why
are they mutually exclusive? I feel like understanding this? So
where do where does the snap take place? With the
Pittsburgh Steelers more often than not under center?
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Uh No, in Shotgun? Now with Rogers, they've been an
under center team. Even with Rogers, if you go back
then not more often than not.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
I don't think that's factually true.
Speaker 4 (17:27):
Well, I mean I don't have it. I don't have
it stat static so I can say we could.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
I mean again, I don't have the information to say
whether it's true or not. All I'll say is is
that from the conversation that I was having based upon
that piece of information, they went total shotgun. They were
not under center at all, and they did not take
any deep like they usually run the ball, run, run, run,
(17:55):
explosive play. Take that for data. Yeah, well, I don't
have the that. I just I was just paying attention
to guys.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
So last year the Steelers were in Shotgun sixty six percent.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Of the time. That's more than that. Yeah, this year.
I'm trying to look this up, so it may take
a minute. Sorry, no word, go ahead, No, I wait.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
The league average for under center versus shotgun it's about
sixty percent. So I would say, without even necessarily looking
this up, there's a strong likelihood that that's not true.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
I would wonder what was the percentage of undercenter in
that game? That's what I will wonder. Well, let me
ask you this, Why does that matter to you? Because
of the difference, and yeah, because of the run and
because of the past rush, it's one hundred percent an
easier task to get to a quarterback that's from under
center than from shotgun. It's easy. I think that's an.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Interesting way of put in. By the way, this stat
also shows sixty five percent in shotgun for these Steelers
in twenty twenty.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
Five this season. This season.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Yeah, i'd have to go back through a different service
to find individual games. I would I would actually argue this.
I think, yes, because you're closer to the quarterback when
he's under center, it would make logical sense. However, most
under center pass plays are some version of boots or
max protection, where you've got seven guys in protection, so
(19:31):
I would think that like in shotgum, the balls could
come out quicker, but there's also less guys in protection.
And even though he's further away, would it would make
sense to what you're saying, But I don't know. I'd
have to go back and kind of look. But it
definitely when you're under center more. It's definitely in an
effort to help the run game. Like going back to
when we opened up talking about Bejon Robinson, one of
the biggest differences between the Falcons with Michael Pennix as
(19:54):
the starting quarterback and Kirk Cousins is they're not in
pistol as much. And because Pennis during his time I'm
at the University of Washington, got really comfortable in the pistol,
and so their off its coordinator, Zach Robinson has basically
adapted the entire offense to what is most comfortable for
Michael Pennix. Well, once Pennis got hurt, Cousins started going
back under center a bit more, and that's in part
(20:17):
then helped out Bejon Robinson. The run game actually has improved.
He's averaging about twenty yards per game more with Cousins,
who's under center more so to that point, Yeah, there's
definitely an element of maybe trying to run the ball
better with Rogers being under center more.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Yeah. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
I just that's how I was getting it, and I
was kind of agreeing with it. I started thinking to myself,
when did I have the most impact on a game.
It was generally if a quarterback was under center, and
you start thinking about, okay, it is because of bootlegs,
it is because of them having to run back where
its five to seven steps. Then try to read it.
(20:54):
It's a rhythmic deal. But if my defensive backs can
disrupt what the rhythm is and the timing of it is,
then chances of me getting to the quarterback, I feel
like are better if you're in if you're in shotgun
and you're looking at you like you can see me coming,
especially to the right side if you're a right hand
dominant quarterback, you can see me coming. Versus if there's
(21:17):
a blind moment for a quarterback when they're under center
more often than not, which I mean you have a
blind side anyway, but I feel like you can you
could scan quicker from from the shotgun than you can
for what go no.
Speaker 1 (21:32):
Say, it's no sesame street out there. I know that
because it helped raise all of us. Now it's our
turn donate this holiday season at sessame dot org because
the world needs sesame and sess me. You gotta get
the d I get it. No, we got to get
out of here for blendin.
Speaker 2 (21:46):

world is who's this year's MVP. That's right, I'm not
talking players, I'm talking poors. Baby, the most valuable poor,
that's right. I know who mine is. It's the most
(22:40):
valuable poor in my book, which is the original Louisiana
Hot Sauce. Yeah, you're here to share the crowd roaring.
Here's why it's the MVP for me? Well, because it's
really made a three hard hitting ingredients but very simple peppers, vinegar,
and salt. It's the perfect balance eat and flavor. And
(23:01):
now that's why it's MVP material. And what makes my
most valuable poor different from any old poor is the name,
the value of it.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
Other hot sauces are well second string, but the original
Louisiana Hot Sauce. On game day, it'll dress up all
your favorite eats with ease drizzled on nachos, burgers, pizzas,

hundred years. Its flavor is undefeated unbeatable people, a tasty
Louisiana legacy like well, those that deserve to get labeled
most valuable poor title. That's right, MVP. That's why the
(23:51):
original Louisiana Hot Sauce isn't just my MVP. It's my VP.

come on, man, tighten up, man, come on. All you
ever wanted to try an Olympic and Paralympic sport? Oh god?
Would you try fencing? Fast? It's safe, you know what.
It's easy to start. Find a beginner class near you
at USA Fencing dot org slash try fencing. That's USA
(25:35):
Fencing dot org slash try fencing. The godfather thing with fencing.
It's got to be a first, all right, all right,
We've got the leftovers coming up in fifteen minutes from now.
But right now, Oh my god, pay your respects to
the man himself, Fox Sports, NFL and College Football Rules Analyst.
(25:55):
You can get him on X if you want some
of that smoke at Dean Blandino, Why how'd I be
going not my boy like with us here? Good morning Dean, morning, Dane.
Speaker 7 (26:06):
Morning, morning guys. I just I just want to say,
if you, if you guys made the actual gobbo to
wait as long as I just waited listening to every ad,
every podcast, every I mean, I could do the fencing.
I mean it's like.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
It's like just start you.
Speaker 7 (26:23):
Okay, can we just I'm here, let's go.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
Let's actually think you'd be good at uhcing, im good
at everything. Let's go, Okay, let's to get this. So Dean,
I'm curious, though, at this point of the year, how
would you assess the year from an officiating standpoint? Like, like,
(26:48):
because obviously you know fans are going to complain. You
hear it all the time on social media and see
it all the time, But like, how would you assess
the year from an officiating standpoint? How they've done well?
Speaker 7 (26:58):
Look, the narrative and thennarrative is always the same. It's
it's it's the officiating is getting worse. The scrutiny is
never it's going to continue to increase and in every game,
and there's so much riding on it, and not just
from a competitive standpoint. We've got gambling, and we've got fantasy,
(27:19):
we've got everybody. It's so you know, locked in on
every every play. But from a at least from an
informed perspective, in terms of the time that I've spent,
the people that I've been around and understanding the game
from that side, it isn't as good as it should be.
It really isn't. And I think the on field officials
(27:40):
are struggling in some areas. I think replay is struggling
in some areas, and you certainly don't want that going
into the playoffs, and that's going to be and you
you know, the hope always is that with the playoffs
you narrow the pool of people involved. You know, there's
one game at a time, you're going to have less officials,
your higher highest the officials working replay. Again, with one
(28:03):
game going on at a time, if you focus is
and on four or five different games, you hope that
you don't have any issues. And but again, overall, I
don't think it was a great year. I think there's
some things that need some improvement, and that's kind of
you know, just squamat with it.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Well, I could sense the need for improvement through your
guys videos that you might do need, so I could
I could give you. I guess I'll throw out a
list of plays at some point here with you. But
I do want to ask this, why not add another
official if they're having a hard time seeing it on
the field in real real time. I know you guys
in the past have been like, oh, they don't need it,
(28:42):
whatever else, But I feel like just at a college
has it, Well, why not add an additional official on
the field in the NFL too.
Speaker 7 (28:50):
Yeah, we looked at that ten fifteen years ago, and
I think I think spacing and the location of the
official was always a challenge. They moved the umpire was
the traditional tradition where college still has that umpire in
the defensive backfield kind of like a linebacker level, maybe
a little deeper now, and they moved they moved that
(29:12):
that umpire out of there for safety reasons. So it's
hard to say, Okay, well the game's safer, we can
move you back in there. You know, you were seeing
a lot of crossing routes, a lot of a lot
of things that were happening where that umpire was getting
you know, getting in the way and a lot of traffic,
and I think that ultimately where to put that official.
I think there was some concern with the committee, Okay,
(29:32):
an extra set of eyes. Are we going to get
more flags? Do we need more flags than the game?
It's it's I can kind of see both sides of it,
and and I think that's one of those you know,
college with the eighth official, it's kind of been more
of just like a ball spot or pace because the
college game from a tempo standpoint is so much faster
(29:52):
than the NFL, and they felt they needed that additional
initial body to keep up with the pace. So I
think the NFL has gone the other route where it's
not it's a replay issue and we got it, we
got it, we need replay to fix everything. And I'm
not sure that's the right to approach either, because we
just can't review every single thing and uh and so
I'm sure those conversations will continue with it, whether it's
(30:14):
full time officials, whether it's an eighth official. Again, I
think it comes down to it comes down to teaching
and training and consistency and that messaging, which which really
the assiciating department just has to continue to work at.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
Dane are is holding? Is holding getting redefined in in
the league? And I don't know if I see it
as much in college, but is it getting redefined in
in the league, like, for instance, a pass rusher. I've
seen more than my fair share of pass rushers getting
(30:50):
pulled to the ground. I've seen.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Possible tacklers getting impeded from the runner by a click
or blatant hold of some sort impeding them. Is it
just getting redefined in terms of what a hold is
versus you know what, like you know what's being called
versus what's not being called?
Speaker 7 (31:16):
Well, from what I've seen, and look officiating part, they
put out videos every week. We get access to those videos.
Those videos go to the clubs, they go to the
officials and they'll talk about different things like holding or
past inference or les rules things. So holding hasn'to my knowledge,
hasn't been redefined. What is holding? The definition of holding,
(31:37):
how they want the officials to call holding hasn't changed.
I do think there's an overall sense of and this
has been kind of happening percolating the last couple of years,
is they don't want games with a ton of fouls,
So you want it to be clear and obvious. And
I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing. You don't
(31:59):
want to be over technical. But if you keep preaching that,
and you keep well, we can't have a lot of flags,
we have a lot of flags, then there's going to
be plays where officials just you know, they see it,
they go wow that I think that's fould. But I'm
not gonna you know, I got this in the back
of my mind that we can't we don't want a
whole bunch of flags.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
In the game.
Speaker 7 (32:16):
So I'm gonna I'm gonna keep it in my pocket.
I think that might be happening. Look, takedowns, those have
to be called. There's there's debatable ones where you know,
was their restriction you know, did the did the offensive
lineman or whoever it is, did they did they really
restrict that defender? Did they have good feed? Did they
say square? Those types of things. But the big takedowns,
(32:38):
the big the bear hugs, the hook the hooks, those
types of things, they those have to be called.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
Dean Blandino joining us here on Fox Sports Radio, Fox Sports,
NFL college football rules analysts get them on X at
Dean Blandino, who's the best crew like at this point
that you've seen this year. If I'm one of those
pairs conoid fans always worried about, well they're out to
get us whatnot, If you see this crew or this
official calling your game, you can feel good that they're
(33:07):
at least going to get majority of the time the
call right.
Speaker 7 (33:12):
Yeah, you know, I think each crew has strengths and weaknesses.
You know, you always look at them at the referee.
The referee really sets its tone. That's the quarterback, you know.
When I look at those those referees, Bill Vinovitch, Carl
Cheffers does a great job. Ron Torbert I think does
a great job. But every crew, and a lot of
these crews they've been you know, once they get to
(33:34):
the postseason, it's not the same crew that you'll see
during the regular season. Those like like I said, it's
the highest rated officials at each position. They'll be, they'll
move them around. There will be some continuity. It's not
I don't think we'll see a crew that is brand
new in terms of all seven officials who haven't worked together.
So there'll be some continuity. Maybe it's maybe it's three
(33:56):
officials maybe even four officials that have been on the
same crew during the regular season, but these crews are
going to change during the during the postseason, so it's
hard to kind of say that that crew is is
the best crew. I think the referee really it starts there,
and I think we'll see the best referees in the postseason,
and hopefully you don't have any of these, you know,
(34:16):
some of these issues we've seen during the regular season.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Did you want to ask you about defensive pass interference?
But when a ball seems like it was uncatchable. There
was a play in the Broncos Chiefs game. I believe
Pats Artane was the player called with with DPI in
this case. Just help me understand, like how far out
of bounds or how high or because that was when
(34:40):
I looked at and I go, okay, that wasn't at
all catchable. And yet I understand what took place on
the field, But at what point of the officials go yeah, okay,
there's no chance of the receiver getting that.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (34:53):
I think I think this concept of uncatchable, it's like
it's like what what unketchable is in reality and how
it's applied for the rule in the NFL or not
the same, Like there's going to be balls where you're
going to say, there's no way he could have caught that.
But the philosophy has always been that these are you know,
(35:13):
these are tremendous athletes to assume that they can get
to the football, assume that they can make that play,
and it has to be really above and beyond, Like
there's some guidelines in terms of, you know, if you've
if the receivers outside the numbers and the balls don't
over their heads, it's how high you know, how if
you airmail it into the fifth row, that's not catchable.
(35:35):
And I think they're used the sideline. If it lands
in the white that's typically you know, that six foot boarder,
that's typically going to be considered catchable if it's somewhere
in the bench area. Now it starts to become closer
to hey, he couldn't have made a play on the ball.
It's so subjective it is, and you're going to lean
toward making it catchable. So I think that's what leads
to some of these plays where you go, wow, that
(35:57):
I don't think he could have caught that. But the
way it's applied, they're gonna They're gonna give the receiver
the benefit of the town.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
I'm good.
Speaker 4 (36:06):
I know you get tired of answering questions about you know,
obviously what the rules are.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
I mean sorry, I mean you can ask me about
other stuff. Is there anything like tell you what? What?
What should we have asked you about? Dean? Like give
us something that you've been like, Man, I wish they
would ask me. I got one for you, Dean. How
is your Christmas?
Speaker 7 (36:24):
Christmas is good? It was quiet, it was relaxing. There
was no I didn't I didn't watch a minute of
NFL football.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
What did What did you get from Tom Brady? Because
you guys have become friends now?
Speaker 1 (36:38):
So was there a nice Christmas?
Speaker 7 (36:40):
Yeah? I got He's the best I got. So I
got a package and giant package from from Ninja like
delivered to the house. I'm like, what is this? Like
this really cool outdoor heater fire pit thing and I'm
like I didn't order this, what is this? And then
(37:00):
ended up being from Tom and he sent me a
bunch of stuff. I gotta He gave me like a
personalized sign jersey like it's you know, and I don't
know what, like what am I going to get him
like the flag with like you know, keep keep keep
on trucking.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
You know, I don't know you could have you could
have gotten a picture of the Tuck Rule play and
just said, hey, I got your back, like you could
sign it and give that some Yeah.
Speaker 7 (37:26):
Yeah, I don't know. What do you get the guy
that has everything? But we do. We are doing it,
probably that this this weekend coming up. We're in Chicago.

Over ry luray ray, what do we got?
Speaker 6 (40:36):
Oh my goodness, I saw this in the news. The
British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua, who bought Jake Paul last week,
he got in a horrible car accident in Nigeria. Two
of his friends who he was traveling with actually lost
their lives.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
They slammed into the back of a parked truck.
Speaker 6 (40:53):
Joshua did sustain serious injuries, but he is looking to
recover just fine, and authorities are looking into what exactly happened.
Speaker 4 (41:00):
I blew the one of the tiers, blew out, tire
blew out. They lost control of the car. I believe
it was a Lexus Suv and ran into a parked truck.
Sad man but dots and prayers for that family. Dots
and prayers is Anthony as well. But yeah, happy he
(41:21):
made it. I hate to say it because you lost too,
but happy Anthony made.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
It lucky to be alive for sure. I mean he
was sitting in the back seat apparently like the two
in the front out of there. So did Johanna say thoughts.
No sad situation, so not much to add to that.
Speaker 6 (41:38):
I'll sit in the back myself, thank you very much.
We do have one other little short story here, big
sports movie coming up. Nicholas Cage is back and bigger
than ever as he transforms into John Madden.
Speaker 1 (41:48):
I do have a little teaser. Let's give it to
I'm Patrick. No idea where we are, who we are,
where we're coming from, or who we're throwing to. Very interesting,
there we go. I'm excited. I'm sold.
Speaker 6 (42:00):
We have to wait till November, but it's coming.
Speaker 8 (42:02):
Boys, let's kidding.
Speaker 1 (42:04):
I'll say Calient, Tate, Calli and caligu
