You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Is this just competition
or something more? We'll get to that here in a minute.
We're broadcasting live from the ti rack dot Com studios.
Tire rack dot Com will help get you there an

tire buying should be Man, Jason, So, I love the
whole conversation about Caitlin Clark in the WNBA because things
are shifting now. Okay, for a while, there was a

(01:16):
lot of Caitlin Clark criticism. Her team got off to
an zero to five start, and there have been some
athletes past and present that had things to say, Lebron
basically said, I hope she doesn't like buy into this,
like just avoid the noise, concentrate on what you do,

(01:36):
have fun, and just you know, distance yourself from all
the negativity. Is I'm paraphrasing, That's basically what he said,
alluding to the fact there's a lot of criticism out there,
which he's right about.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Charles Barkley, he came out.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
And he said, Hey, all these women in the WNBA,
stop being petty. You're acting like the guys being petty
with Caitlin Clark, who's bringing a lot of tension, a
lot of stardom, and you're just talking trash and that's
led to this, Jason. The next phase is these women
aren't bashing Caitlin Clark unnecessarily.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
It's just healthy competition. They're competing against one another. What
do you expect I think that.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Look, there is a little bit more than just healthy
competition going on here, and there's something to be said
about we're more than just a one player league. And
why is this one girl getting so much attention, so
much shine? You can't tell me there isn't an element
of that involved in the criticism here.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
There absolutely is, Yeah, of course there is.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
The bigger point is, yeah, you are a one woman league.
I know you don't want to hear that if you're
a women's basketball fan or one of these players. And
that's not to say you're not good at what you do,
just to say people don't care. I mean, I'm just
gonna be as honest as humanly possible, like you should
be extremely happy that there is a Caitlin Clark right

(03:08):
now because people actually know that the WNBA season is
taking place. This is the condition of the sport. It's
been this way the entire time. You can hate on
her all you want, but without her, you don't have
a league.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
You just don't.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
And I know what Angel Reese has said, and I know,
oh well, the Sparks had thirteen thousand people. You know,
whatever it is, Caitlin Clark has made people at least
pay attention to box scores. Now I've already gone from
I watched the first couple of games too. Now I'm
just kind of looking and seeing what she's doing game
to game. I don't know how long that's gonna last.
I don't because the sport doesn't hold my interest. That

(03:41):
doesn't mean that I think you're wrong if it holds yours.
I mean, opinions are subjective and entertainment is very subjective.
But this league has never mattered on a grand scale
from the thirty thousand foot view ever before. And right
now you have a completely unique property in Kaitlyn Clark

(04:04):
that has put attention and eyeballs there. The whole competitiveness thing,
to me is just bunk. It's just pure jealousy. It's
pure envy. It's pure Uh. They don't like the attention
that she's getting. And some say, you know, they're better
players than she is, and right now they are, But
the fact that they were zero and five and all
this other kind of stuff. Yeah, she went to a
horrible team. That's why they were able to pick her

(04:25):
number one. I mean, when Mignyanna and the Spurs didn't
win a whole lot of games either. But when Migyonna
is going to be an incredible talent, Kaitlyn Clark is
having to learn that. You know, it's a little bit
different than when it was at Iowa. There's more talent there,
and they're all out to get her. They're not out
to make her look good, There's no question about that.
But I don't understand why this has to be the

(04:48):
storyline coming from any of the players at all. I mean,
if you're the commissioner of the WNBA, or if you're
somebody in their offices, you kind of want some of
this not to be the story, Like you kind of
I do want some of the Caitlin Clark effect to
try and rub off on somebody else, some other people.
And maybe you're creating that with some of the drama.
I heard Cavino and Rich suggest that. And there is

(05:10):
something too. The more people chirp about her, you know,
the more chance, you know, you get a little bit
of a rivalry or somebody wants to see somebody, you know,
get put in their place or whatever. But that's all
you got. You got one player. You have one player
that moves the needle. And I don't even know how
much long term, But and I've already been kind of

(05:32):
skeptical that this is a transferable quality.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
That she possesses.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
She's just unique because her storyline started in college with
Angel revees as a matter of fact, and then last
year it became kind of this thing to follow. It
was like Forrest Gump ran for a while and then
all of a sudden, a bunch of people were running
with him, and then you feel like you're watching history
and you're watching Peacock to see her break a record,
and there's all these articles being written and all this.

(05:57):
Irrespective of all that's just it became something bigger than sports.
It became like an eclipse. You want to go out
and you want to see it because it's not a
thing that happens a lot. And I know it sounds
harsh towards women's basketball, but I mean, am I saying
something that's incorrect here? If you're out there listening right now,
how often has the WNBA ever been talked about on
national sports talk radio? Almost never, unless it's been the

(06:20):
butt of a joke. So right now, you need to
take this for all it's worth and be excited that
you have a little something and see what you can
make out of that, as opposed to being being the
stories all just kind of being this kind of the
pettiness and all this, it's not helpful at all, Like
you should you should be using.

Speaker 5 (06:39):
This, not abusing this.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yeah, Angel Reese, she put out a tweet it's been deleted,
but after her team won a game against the New
York Liberty. This was after Charles Barkley had come out
and said, hey, stop being petty and criticizing Caitlin claricle
you WNBA players. Angel Reese put a tweet out there
and said, and that's on getting a win and a

(07:04):
packed arena, not just because of one player on our
charter flight.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
It's clearly a shot at Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Right, that's absolutely a shot at her. And yes, it's
partially like hey, chuck right, Like she's talking about Charles
Barkley in his comments as well. She's pushing back on
the thought that Caitlin Clark is being criticized by these
WNBA players while she's criticizing Caitlin Clark. Okay, that's what's

(07:33):
happening here. I want to play you a little bit
of audio because El Duncan, who I think does a
great job on ESPN, she has said something about the
perception of the Caitlin Clark critics in the WNBA.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Check this out. What are you looking for? I'm so
tired of it.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
It just makes no sense to me, and I'm tired
that we keep giving it so much energy, and I'm.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Tired of it being people who are not in this
circle or space at all.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
Who suddenly we have all these opinions about how these
women need to treat Caitlyn Clark.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
What do you want from them? They want to beat
her because she's not on their team. Isn't that how
it's supposed to be? Y'all stop it. We already know
she's transformational. They've all said it. How many times have
they gotta say it?

Speaker 2 (08:18):
She could not be more wrong, Jason on this one,
because to whittle it down to this is just healthy competition.
She's on the other team. They want to beat her,
That's all this is. Know what it isn't like if
you don't think there's some element of jealousy or why
is this the girl that's getting all this shine?

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Why her and not.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
This player or this team or this you know storyline
getting the attention. It's just Caitlin Clark. If you think
that's just healthy competition, I don't know what to tell you.
I'll give you an example. Jeff Schwartz says this yesterday
when we were doing a show here on Fox Sports Radio.
I thought it was a great comparison. He mentioned Dion

(09:01):
Sanders in college football. Now ask yourself, Jason, all the
things that have been said, not from the outside, but
within college football from other coaches. Do you think it's
just healthy competition or do you think it's a little personal.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
You remember when Dan Lanning, the head coach at Oregon,
he had this to say, the Cinderella man, Right, they're
fighting for clicks.

Speaker 6 (09:27):
We're fighting for wins.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Right, they're fighting for clicks, We're fighting for wins. You
you think that's just competition or do you think there's
something a little personal right there. That's exactly what's happening
with Caitlin Clark and some of the haters within the
own league, the WNBA, and to say, oh, it's just

(09:49):
it's healthy competition. They want to beat her. There is
way more to it than just that. Shay is oh, Okay,
we lost Jason for a second, gotcha, gotcha? Yeah, we'll
get him right back here. But that's the truth, man,
that's where we're at here. And look, I'll give you

(10:10):
another example. Think of Russell Wilson when he was with
the Seahawks, and some of his own teammates looked at
Russ and they're like, man, why is this guy getting
the endorsement deals? And we got the legion of Boom
and this defense is really valuable.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
And I mean those were his own teammates.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
And look, I get it, Russ is a different guy
and he's not, you know, the most likable in some areas.
I think he's incredibly likable in other areas. But the
point is that his own teammates, they didn't love that
he got a lot of the attention and they thought
they deserved some of the attention. They're in the same

(10:53):
locker room, they're on the same side. So this thought
of these women in the DOUBLENBA who are insanely competitive,
this is just competition that Caitlin's getting this attention and
nothing more than that. That's silly, man, It just is.

(11:14):
But this idea of like us us hating on Caitlin Clark, No, never,
we would never even think of doing such a thing.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
We're just trying to beat her.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
It's like, okay, oh okay, I am not buying into
that one at all, No, thank you. But it is
an interesting storyline and it's something that is going to
continue to get attention. And I'm a firm believer this.
I'll just say this real fast. Just own it, like

(11:46):
whatever your position is, just own it. I would have
more respect for you if you came out and said, yeah,
I think that there's too much hype for her. She
hasn't accomplished anything in the WNBA, and until she does,
I think that you're talking about a non factor right now.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
If you just came right out and owned.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
It, I would respect your position a whole lot more
than this innocent routine of like, we're not hating, we
would never hate on her, she's amazing, and then you
turn around and say all these negative things and take
shots at her and toss out tweets, and it would
be like this. It would be a good example. I'll

(12:29):
go to college football again, the SEC for years, there
would be these people that tried to hate on the
SEC and the dominance. They're winning national championships left and right,
they're putting out the most players in the NFL, and

(12:50):
one season after another after another, it would be well,
you know this and that, and it would be the
dumbest arguments against the SEC, where I actually think the
PAC twelve is a better conference this year in spite
of the SEC winning another championship and having way more pros.

Speaker 3 (13:10):
And it's just.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Like, I would respect your position a whole lot more
if you just came right out and said, look, I
just don't like the SEC. If you came out and
said that, I would respect the position you have a
whole lot more.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
But when it's.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Covered in oh no, no, no no, this isn't unnecessary negativity
towards the SEC and their dominance. I really believe this
dumb argument. It's like, oh my gosh, you just dislike them,
you're tired of them. Just say that that's a better
position than trying to create something. That's what I feel
like with these Caitlin Clark critics. If you had just

(13:49):
come right out and say, I think it's more pipe
than substance, I would respect that a whole lot more.
But when you criticize her and then you run and
hide from it and say, oh no, no, no, it's
just healthy competition.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
Get ouda here, it's not. That's what bothers me is
just own it.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
I don't expect anyone to be perfect, but I expect
you to own what your position is and what you
truly think. It's like Robert Craft, good example, I'll give
you one last one, and j Mart's back with us.
It's filibustering there for a second j Martin.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
But.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Great example Robert Kraft with the Patriots, Robert Craft during
a roast of Tom Brady or anything public. Bill Belichick
is the greatest coach of all time. This was the
greatest blessing as the team owner of the Patriots.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
And blah blah blah blah.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Then behind closed doors, what's he doing calling up Arthur
Blanket the Falcons? Hey, hey, don't hire this bum. Oh
this guy is a nightmare to work with. YadA YadA,
YadA YadA.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
He is so fake.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
He is so phony because he'll say the right thing
in public when there's a microphone, and then he'll try
to backstab Belichick when nobody's watching. That's what these WNBA
players are doing. They're talking trash about Caitlin Clark and
they get called on it, and then it's like, not us,
we would never hate on this girl.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
She's amazing.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
It's like, sell that to someone else who doesn't have
a brain at all, because I do, and I see
what's going on here.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
Yeah, I mean, and listening to the audio and Al
Duncan and the Angel Reese thing to me is hilarious
because what Angel Reese tweeted, we know who Angel Reese is, right,
And the reason we know who Angel Reese is is
because we know who Caitlyn Clark is because they were
tied together for the last couple of years and Angel always.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
Says it goods to us competitive and we love each other.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
And also the kind of stuff she does love Caitlyn
Clark because she continues to kind of use the drift.
Let's talk about the Indy five hundred, Nico CoA Cola
six Monaco Real Quick. She's using the drift off of
Caitlyn Clark to stay relevant. Like, I mean, that's it,
Like she's not I'm not saying she's a bad basketball player.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
I'm saying that the reason why we really.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
Know who she is is because of her kind of
run ends, a combativeness. It's sort of just some of
this kind of pettiness that she has brought to the
Caitlin Clark situation.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
But the overarching point of oh, we love her to death.

Speaker 4 (16:25):
No you don't know, you don't you would rather this
is this is just incredible to me. But the way
this comes across is you would rather your league fail
than her be responsible for its success.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
Yeah, what does that say?

Speaker 4 (16:40):
Like if you if you end up making more money
if you end up on charter flights, if people start
to pay more attention here and there, Like, how is
that possibly negative for you?

Speaker 5 (16:49):
How petty?

Speaker 4 (16:50):
How spiteful do you have to be to actually lament
the fact that your league actually has people paying attention
to it right now because the one person that's responsible
for it isn't the one you wished it was, and that,
to me is the biggest issue.

Speaker 5 (17:06):
It's like, get over yourself.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
Yeah, Either let her help you and do what you
can to maximize that and market yourself and market your league,
or go back to being irrelevant because we're we're I
promise you here real soon, no one's gonna care anymore
and we're gonna be right back to no one paying
attention to the league whatsoever. So you need to accept
in it, appreciate what you have right now because you've

(17:30):
never had it before, and if you're not careful, you're
gonna blow this before it has a chance to do
anything at all for you.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Yeah, it's it's really interesting, man, it is to see
where it goes. But I'll say this, and you know this, Jason,
you basically said the same thing. WNBA needs Caitlin Clark.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Oh, he's yeah, rookie right.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Like, it's gonna take time. She's got to get stronger,
she's got to improve. This is another level. I think
there is something. I'll meet you halfway, Diana Tarassi. When
Diana Tarassi said, hey, it's the WNBA, this is another level.
I don't think anything was out of line. I was
totally fine with all of her comments. Some people had
a problem with it, where I do think there is

(18:15):
an element where you're trying to shoehorn some sort of
rivalry or unfair comments from time to time that does.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
Happen, but not all the time.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
To make its out like all of these comments are
just healthy competition. That's not the case. There is some jealousy,
there is some hatred right there, but you'd be better
off just embracing it because this is the golden goose.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
Man iss.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Caitlyn Clark is phenomenal for the WNBA, and the NBA
will thrive as long as she does, right, Like, as
long as Caitlyn Clark is a special player and she's
got some work to do, it's the best thing possible
for the w We got a lot to do over here.
Coming up next, on Two Pros and a Cup of
Joe live from the Tirak dot com studios. A lot

(19:00):
of stuff happened this weekend, j mart right around the
sports world. We get to the non mainstream thing that
happened that stood out to you most. We'll compare notes
as far as that goes. He's Jason Martin, I'm Brian
No hang with us right here on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 7 (19:54):
On the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get
your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
It is Two Pros and a Cup of Joe here
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
He's Jason Martin, I'm Brian No. We're in for the guys.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Today and uh man, you know, there was a lot
of sports that went on this weekend.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Jason.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
We spent time on the NBA playoffs, and I mean
both you and I are big hoops heads, but there's
a lot beyond that that went on. And when you
start thinking about maybe they they're not quite mainstream, you know,
maybe they don't get the attention they're the uh they're
the other w NBA players, right and maybe maybe maybe

(20:37):
the NBA playoffs or the Caitlin Clark of the sports
world going on right now, I.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
But of the the non mainstream sports, what stood out
to you the most? Right, we had Joseph Newgarden winning
the NDY five hundred for a second straight year, NHL
playoffs going on, how about a a five to four
Rangers overtime win for them to take a two to
one series. We talked about the Ronald de Counya junior

(21:03):
injury for the Braves, among other things. A lot of
other things that went on. But of the non mainstream stuff,
what stood out to you the most?

Speaker 8 (21:11):
Well, we'll avoid the biggest story because we talked about
it earlier, the sadness of losing a thirty year old
in golf and then finishing that tournament and.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
How difficult it was. If you missed that, certainly go
back and listen to podcast. Just just tragedy, there no question.
I mean you listened to a lot of them. I
think that Charles Leclerk winning at home, you know, winning Monaco. Finally,
I think you could mention that you had a fourteen
inning softball game between Tennessee and Alabama on Saturday night,

(21:44):
which I thought was certainly a compelling thing to take
place as well. Now there was a lot you did have.
You know, Larson was going to do Indie and Charlotte,
he was gonna do the Indy five hundred and NASCAR,
and because of weather he wasn't able to do it,
so he couldn't actually end up doing it. He wasn't
there in time for the start of the Co Cola

(22:05):
six hundred because of the delay at Indy.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
So you had that.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
You mentioned to Kunya, you also had the biggest thing
to me, that's happening right now, This is not this
is mainstream sort of if we're about to see the
end of Inside the NBA. Oh and if we're about
to see the end of TNT coverage. Yeah, never has
it been worse for this to happen, because I just

(22:30):
gotta say, ESPN stuff is not good right now. It's
just not like, not even studio side, studio sides, it's
not even comparable. It's just not like you just can't
you can't recapture what they've done on TAT. You can't
with Ernie and everything that they have, certainly with Barclay
and Kenny and Shaq and just you just can't not

(22:51):
duplicate that. But I have never been just less entertained
by a major broadcast, and I have been with the
ESPN crew. I mean, Mike Breen is an all time great.
He even looks kind of he sounds disengaged. But it
just ain't happening. And I think for for broadcast sake,
it would probably be good if Reddick does get that

(23:13):
Lakers job. But I can't imagine the NBA without that
song on tn T, without that music and without having
that to look forward to. I know you can do
that show potentially the same guys elsewhere, even if though
Ernie Leven Turner seems just unlikely. But I just that
that's the thing that I am looking at right now

(23:35):
and saying, we may only have one more addition of
inside the NBA, And of course Turner and their their
personalities are a large part.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
Of what NBA TV is as well.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
So to me, that's that is the other sort of
off the map thing that has my attention.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
I like that we went uh non mainstream and you
still came back to the end.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
I still finding a way to get there. I love that.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
No, but I hear you, and I I'm totally with you.
Inside the NBA, it is the NBA, you know what
I mean. They've broadcasted for almost forty years, like covering
the NBA, and inside the NBA has been a big
chunk of that with Charles Barkley and the entire crew
over there.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
I will miss that so much.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
If it's truly gone, and it looks almost certain that
they're not going to have the NBA, there's got to
be something that the NBA can do, even if they're
just giving them Thursday night games. Just have Thursday night
games and we still get the crew for the entire
regular season. At the bare minimum, Right, you gotta do
something like that because it is it's so special.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
For the league.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
And man, this has turned into a dud series. It
looked like Timberwolves and Mavericks was going to be special
and it might be over and four.

Speaker 4 (24:50):
Well, I mean it's wait a second, if you were
going to have a suite potentially, uh huh. At least
they've been dramatic, like I mean, these games come down
to the end, like we could have sweeps with thirty
point blowouts.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
That's true.

Speaker 5 (25:01):
We've had compelling finishes.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
I would love though, like you know, a Game six
came into a Game seven, right, and and that's maybe
the sendoff for inside the NBA.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
But they said it last night.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Charles is joking around like we might only have one
more show and then he's going golfing, you know, And
it might be the case. But uh yeah, I look
at the ESPN crew. It's a little bit like the
Phoenix Suns, you know, where you get all these big
names and you're like, oh baby, and you put them
together and you're like, yeah, it's just it's not it's

(25:36):
not there.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
I loved Mike Breen.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
With Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson they were sensational.
It became so trendy last season to bash them. It
was the trendy. Opinion was like, Oh, these guys and
Jeff van Gundy and his tangents and his rants.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
And it's just worn off.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
And I'm like, you're gonna miss them when they're gone,
You're gonna miss and I do. I thought they were fantastic.
I think Jason, that was the closest thing we would
get to a TV crew that is like inside the NBA,
you know, where they joke, or it'd be the NBA
Finals and Jeff Van Gundy would be talking about haircuts

(26:17):
or just random stuf.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
But I mean that was but that was unique and
was entertaining. He was quirky, he was a curmudgeon. I
loved Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson became has just
gotten increasingly polarizing. I think to some people, some people
absolutely couldn't stand him.

Speaker 5 (26:32):
I liked.

Speaker 4 (26:32):
I just liked the chemistry of those three guys together
and with I have never quite understood the fascination and
just the just incredible amount of virtual ink that's been
spilled telling me for media personalities, just how special Doris
Burke is. I think Doris Burke is a talented person.

(26:54):
I'm not suggesting that, but she's not good in this role,
like at all, and it seems like she's trying too hard.
She's even like using slang and weird trendy terms and
things like that. And then you listen to Reddick, and
Reddick looks like he's auditioning and I don't mean for
TV like he is. He's talking in a way and
he's speaking so often that it seems just so clear

(27:17):
what he is attempting to do and breaking into coaching
and all this, and that opens up the big can
of worms too.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
Hmm.

Speaker 4 (27:23):
There's a podcast with Lebron James and JJ Reddick which
we talked about last time we were hosting. I said,
I now understand why that article was written by The Athletic,
you know, weeks ago about how great that podcast was,
like two three weeks before Darvin Ham ends up losing
his job. And then Reddick's the number one target, like
don't tell me Lebron's not, you know, well in favor
of that. And that podcast is all about schemes and

(27:46):
it's all about like let's look at this play call
and let's break all this down in a way that
it's designed in such a way. But you can listen
to Mike Breen and I urge you to do this tonight.
Mike Breen just doesn't He didn't sound like himself right now,
and I think it's because he got used to a
thing and the energy level just ain't there, and there's

(28:08):
no chemistry between Doris and JJ together and it just
doesn't work. I mean, Reggie Miller, I think has gotten
increasingly better. I enjoy listening to Reggie Miller now, I
really do. As a matter of fact. Harlan's one of
the best in the business. But you think about that
from Turner's perspective and CBS and Tom Warrior, you've got
Iron Eagle and you've got Kevin Harlan and you've got

(28:29):
guys like that, and then on the flip side, it's just, man,
it's rough going.

Speaker 5 (28:34):
I do not want an.

Speaker 4 (28:35):
NBA without the guys that I've gotten used to on
tn T.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
I Yeah, I don't either. I don't need And it's
so strange. They're gonna be doing some college football playoff games. Yeah,
that was the announcement, and it's like it's still gonna
be ESPN. People it's the strangest set up there where
I think it's still gonna be an ESPN crew. It's
gonna be like an ESPN type game, but it's on

(28:59):
T and T. I believe that's the way it's gonna work,
at least initially. But that to me is them kind
of trying to soften the blow of not having the NBA.
At least that's the way it looks. That's crazy, man.
But hey, we've got Eddie Garcia to cheer us up
over here, and I know he's fired up about some
playoff hockey, right. How about the Rangers five four high

(29:22):
scoring affair. We should have taken the over Eddie in Game.

Speaker 9 (29:25):
Three, Yeah, no doubt, although I probably would have predicted
that going into that game because both goalies have been
really good. But yeah, the Rangers pulled one out there
in Florida, was really really good in the third period,
coming back from down two goals to tie it up.
Thought they'd win it in overtime, but sudden death. Sudden
death in hockey, So you get that first one and
you're done there. So I will say this interestingly enough,

(29:48):
you probably guys aren't paying attention to the hockey coverage
on TNT, but I think it's much better than ESPN's
coverage as well. So maybe it's of course it's a
lot of Charles and Shack, but maybe the folk there
that put those shows together over there just knew how
to do it better than the people at ESPN.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
So you'd be proud of me, Eddie, because I did
have a vested interest in the Dallas Stars. In Game one,
they hit vested interest that I was betting on the
Dallas Stars, which mean yeah, and they hit the post, Eddie.
They hit the post in overtime. I thought I had
a power play goal. It didn't work out, but I

(30:26):
bring that up because the studio show is pretty good.
Wayne Gretzky doing his thing like it's it's pretty good
chemistry that they have over there.

Speaker 9 (30:33):
Yeah, they've definitely taken a page from what the you
know they're doing with the NBA coverage, keeping it, you know, light,
but it's still informative. You know, they didn't like to
joke around, have a good time, but they've got good
chemistry with those with those guys there and their crew,
So I enjoy their coverage much much better than what
ESPN does. Anyway, let's get to the NBA Game three
Western Conference Finals. You had the Mavericks topping the Timberwolves

(30:55):
again one sixteen to one oh seven. Dallas out squat
Minnesota fourteen to three in the five final five minutes
to get that win. Luca Dodgicch and Kyrie Irving each
thirty three points for Dallas. For Minnesota, Anthony Edwards was
their leading scorer with twenty six points. Karl Anthony Towns
had just fourteen points. He was five to eighteen from
the field. Dallas leads that series three games to nothing.
Game four will be Tuesday in Dallas. One injury note

(31:18):
as well the Mavericks is Derek Lively took a need
of the head from Karl Anthony Towns didn't return. He
was diagnosed with the next brain. Game four, the Eastern
Conference Finals, comes up tonight as the Pacers hosts the
Celtics Boston, looking to close out that series in a sweep,
leading it three games nothing, and of course, no team
has ever come back from down three to nothing in
the NBA playoffs to win a series. NHL Game three

(31:38):
Eastern Conference Finals, you had the Rangers beating the Panthers
in Florida five to four in overtime. Alex Weinberg deflex
in the game winner in sudden death for New York.
Alexis Lafrenier and Barkley Gudrow each had a pair of
goals for New York as well. Rangers lead that series
two games to one. Game four coming up Tuesday in Florida,
and we've got baseball news. Reigning National League MVP Atlanta

(32:00):
Braves star Ronald the COONa Junior is tearing the ACL
in his lefty Sunday. He will miss the rest of
the season. On the Diamond Guardians making nine wins in
a row with a five to four to win over
the Angels, their third straight three game series sweep. They're
now percentage points up on the Yankees for the top
record in the American League. Got thirty six and seventeen.
Yankees fall to thirty seven and eighteen with a five
to two loss to the Padres. Philly sawed the best

(32:21):
record in baseball at thirty eight and sixteen, but they
lost as well, falling into the Rockies five to two.
Dodgers have dropped five straight. They were swept by the
Reds four to one. Cincinnati. With the win Orioles wrap
up before games sweep the White Sox with a four
to one win. He had the Royals losing to the
Rays four to one, Braves over the Pirates eight one,
and the Cardinals edge of the Cubs four to three.
Auto racing one hundred and eight running of the Indy
five hundred. Joseph Neugarden wins for the second straight year.

(32:42):
He's the first repeat winner since Elio Kastroneves in two
thousand and one. Two thousand and two and golf Davis
Riley won the Colonial his first PGA Tour win. But
it was learned that thirty year old Grayson Murray, who
played in the first two rounds of this event, he
did withdraw late in the second round on Friday. He
committed suicide over the weekend. The event was finished at

(33:03):
the request of Murray's family. Now back to Brian no
Jason Martin the Tireck dot Com, Fox Sports Radio Studios.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
Yeah, man, so tragic. My heart goes out to the family.
Just thoughts and prayers with them. That's really, really, really
beyond sad. It's devastating, but you know, we try to
keep it light today Eddie, while you're still here with us.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
You've been following Puck. You follow all this stuff. Do
you have a.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
Betting lock who calls? Who calls in from San Diego?
Poppy calls in from San Diego with the betting lock
from time to time. Do you have anything we got
Game four tonight in the NBA, anything with Puck? Anything
on the Garcia radar betting wise there?

Speaker 5 (33:45):
Uh?

Speaker 9 (33:45):
You got Stars Oilers tonight in Edmonton, tied at one one.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
Uh huh.

Speaker 9 (33:52):
I definitely like the Stars to win the series, Okay,
I would I would pick Dallas uh in this in
this games you want? They've been really good on the
road so far this postseason. Okay, for some reason, not
so good at home, but so far, Yeah, it's looking
at just a backup here. Let's see, they've they won
all three games in Denver in the last round and

(34:16):
yeah they did have one loss in Vegas in that series,
but they won the other two. So one loss on
the road so far this postseason. So good road team,
Dallas Stars.

Speaker 5 (34:26):
Look at that?

Speaker 3 (34:26):
Okay, thought that right? I like that, Eddie. I might
take that advice. How about you, j Mart?

Speaker 2 (34:30):
You got anything on the on the radar there? In
terms of predictions today, I mean other than.

Speaker 5 (34:37):
I think that the Eastern Conference Finals is over. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
I just think that that ripped the heart out of
whatever Indiana had left in Game three.

Speaker 5 (34:45):
They gave it the role and still weren't able to
come up with it.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
I think that's a sweep, and I'm not sure that
game is going to be that much fun to watch tonight.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
It might not be.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
How great was Nemhart on real thirty two points and
they still lost without without Haliburton out there, it doesn't
sound like he's probably gonna go. There was serious doubt
with that hamstring injury he'd be able to go.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
So uh yeah, man, it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Right, I should have taken Dallas in Game three in
the NBA. Right, that's what happened last night. Now Eddie
is telling me take Dallas the Stars in game three tonight.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
Maybe this is a chance to right my wrongs. Jason,
what do you think?

Speaker 5 (35:27):
Maybe?

Speaker 4 (35:27):
So maybe you want to take the Stars in game four?
Also that meaning Luca and.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
Like that, very well done, very nice on the fly.
I love that all right?

Speaker 2 (35:38):
Coming up next on Two Pros and a Cup of
Joe Live from the Tyraq dot com studios. You probably
don't think this player is boring. You probably just think
the sport is boring. Some details on that coming up next.
He's Jason Martin. I'm Brian know we're in for the
guys here at today on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 6 (35:56):
Be sure to catch live editions of Two Pros and
a Cup of Joe with Brady Quinn, LeVar Errington, and
Jonas Knox weekdays at six am Eastern three am Pacific.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
It is Two Pros and a Cup of Joe live
from the Tirech dot Com studios here on Fox Sports Radio.
He's Jason Martin. I'm Brian. Now we're in for the
guys here today again't Jason. You've done a great job
today highlighting Memorial Day. And you said it earlier in
the show that freedom isn't free. Absolutely true. It reminds

(36:27):
me as a kid. My mom used to have a
sticker on her car window that said that, and I
always thought I was like, man, that is so true.
So whatever you do on this Memorial Day, I hope
you have a fantastic day, just remember whatever you choose
to do, it's because a lot of veterans and a
lot of families of those veterans paid the heaviest price possible,

(36:51):
and you cannot lose sight of that or gratitude for that.
That's very, very important here today to keep that in mind.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
Yeah, I was thinking about this, Jason is.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
You know, you think about Luka Doncicic and his.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
His game is just sensational.

Speaker 5 (37:09):
Man.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
He's a big shot maker. He's not even close to
one hundred percent right now. He dropped thirty three points
last night. Like he's hitting step back threes. He's an
unbelievable player. But what was funny was after Game two
when he was the hero hit the step back three
in Rudy Gobert's face.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
He was a guest on inside the NBA and he's.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
Putting me to sleep, you know, Like it's just funny
to me because I couldn't help but think of Mike
Trout and the criticism of Oh, Mike Trout.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
He's just so boring.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
He never says anything when as Luca said anything off
the court that was interesting, you know what I mean,
where you just don't get that criticism because people tend
to like basketball and find it to be more entertaining
on average than where as people are with the sport
of baseball right now. So the point is this. I

(38:03):
don't think that people found Mike Trout to be boring
as much as they just think baseball is boring, because
there are some stars and other sports that aren't mister
excitement off the field or off the court or what
have you. And I think Luca is one of those guys.
His game is the peak of entertainment. He's really an

(38:24):
entertaining player to watch, even though he is in a
high flyer.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
But he's not going to.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Go on inside the NBA and have you laughing or
keep you entertained. You gotta have this blank stare on
your face, like, man, is this interview almost over?

Speaker 3 (38:38):
This is painful here?

Speaker 4 (38:40):
Yeah, I mean, I think his personality is the basketball player,
the one that you see when the ball is tipped
and horn blows like that a switch flips and his
personality emerges, because then you see all sorts of entertaining
antics and things like that that you would think with
them play into how.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
We would be off floor.

Speaker 4 (39:01):
Is just kind of soft spoken, doesn't really want to
say too much. He says everything in the world on
the floor, including things you could never put on television.
So I think that's true. And of course, in sports
outside of pro wrestling. You're at the mercy of who
the best players are. You can't just say this guy's
the most charismatic. He's got to be the best player.
You can't do it because sometimes you're going to get

(39:24):
more of a mic trout that wants to do more
of his talking. Even when he did the whole ad
with Phil Mickelson and all that kind of stuff, that's
just sort of the way it goes.

Speaker 5 (39:32):
You can't make it happen. But you're right.

Speaker 4 (39:34):
I watched that same postgame. It's just like, yeah, you
just don't have anything to say. He just kind of
had this kind of grin on his face. I'm so
glad that we have him on the team, like talking
about Derek Lively for example, Like just just not very
just nothing really to say, just kind of just he
was there because they I'm just here because I don't
want to get fined.

Speaker 5 (39:55):
It's kind of how it felt.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
It was, really.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
There was no charisma, there was no entertainment value, there
was no comedy, there was nothing.

Speaker 5 (40:02):
I want nothing.

Speaker 2 (40:03):
And you saw Daniel Gafford last night. Yeah, he was
like Chrystal Rock compared to Luka Doncic. I was entertained
by Daniel GAFFERD.

Speaker 5 (40:12):
By the way, can I say this real fast?

Speaker 4 (40:14):
Yeah, if tomorrow's going to be the last broadcast for TNT,
I'm praying that they find a way out of this.
I actually have been okay with Draymond Green. He's done
some of the Draymond things.

Speaker 5 (40:23):
But let's just have the original crew.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
Yeah, for that last show. We don't need the special guests.
Let's just have that crew be able to sign off
and do that final show by themselves. I love it,
and Draymond's doing a good job, but he changes the chemistry.
Draymond is more serious in nature, you know, and so
I think they get more into the x's and o's

(40:47):
than like joking about Bomani Jones needing lotion or.

Speaker 2 (40:53):
It gets a little bit more serious. So, and that's
a great thought by you. If this is it, they
should go out with the four dudes there, man, for sure.
I just hope it's not come on in you to
find a way to get them on Thursday nights at
the very least. J Mart, pleasure to hang out, boy man,
for sure. Hope you have a great day everybody out there.

(41:14):
Enjoy your Memorial Day and we'll catch you soon have
a great one.
