Auto Zone. Well, here we go again. Story that isn't
true that the media embraces that they run with, that
they are so excited to have happened yesterday. It's the

(00:45):
eve of the NFL season starting after our show ends yesterday,
I go to the gym, go work out, come back
home and Twitter and Facebook, and everybody's buzzing about Michael Bennett,
Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman who claims all sorts of ridiculous

(01:11):
racism on behalf of the Las Vegas Police Department. I'm
gonna read you parts of his statement that he put
out that set the world ablaze. Everybody immediately believes everything
that he says. Dear world, Michael Bennett writes on Saturday,
August two thousand seventeen, I was in Las Vegas to

(01:34):
attend the Mayweather McGregor fight on my day off. Everything
that he writes after this has pretty much been disproven
if you actually look at the evidence. After the fight,
while heading back to my hotel, several hundred people heard
what sounded like gunshots. I take that back the second sentence.
I'll believe that too. Like many people, many of the

(01:57):
people in the area, I ran away from the sound
looking for safety. Las Vegas police officers singled me out
and pointed their guns at me for doing nothing more
than simply being a black man in the wrong place
at the wrong time. This is just not true. Okay,
this is not true, not supported by any of the evidence.

(02:20):
But before the Las Vegas Police put out their own
evidence late in the afternoon, this statement for Michael Bennett
became the lead story in all of sports. No one
questioned it. I'm going to continue to read from it.
Everyone accepted it as the gospel truth, and anyone who said, ah,
you know what, let's wait a minute now. One of

(02:43):
the things that I learned early on, and I hit
on this show all the time is relying on any
one person story is not in any way advisable because
one of the least reliable elements in life is eyewitness
testimony over and over and over again. When one person

(03:07):
tells a story, they are not telling anywhere near the
full truth of what happened. Eyewitness testimony has been statistically
proven again and again in criminal trials to be among
the least reliable of all the evidence that can be presented.
So one person telling a story very very rarely is

(03:32):
accurately reflected when an objective version of their story comes out.
In other words, when there's a video or when there
is twenty other people who watched it. If if it's
it's amazing. When you're in law school, one of the
things that you learn is, I remember we did a
we we we would get to watch sometimes a jury

(03:53):
debate inside of the jury room after you made an
argument and hear what struck the jury and off. One
of the things that you would do is you would
have something happen, right, You would set up an event,
and then you would have an entire room full of
people talk about what they saw that happened. And inevitably,

(04:17):
if you have twenty five people witness something, you will
get twenty five different stories of what actually took place,
many of which are completely wrong. When you go back
and watch it, so I am always skeptical anytime somebody
comes out with a story like this. Uh. This is
continuing Michael Bennett's story. A police officer ordered me to

(04:40):
get to the ground. As I laid on the ground,
complying with his commands to not move, he placed his
gun near my head warned me that if I moved,
he would blow my effing head off. Terrified and confused
by what was taking place, a second officer came over
and forcefully jammed his knee into my back, making it
difficult for me to breathe. They then sentched the hand
ups on my wrists so tight that my fingers went numb.

(05:05):
The officer's excessive use of force was unbearable. I felt helpless.
My life flashed before my eyes. All I could think
was I'm gonna die for no other reason than I
am black and my skin color is somehow a threat.
All this ridiculousness. I kept asking the officers what did
I do? Officers ignored my please, all of this stuff,
and then he says the system failed me. I can

(05:27):
only imagine what Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice,
and Charlena Wiles felt. Uh. We don't have equality in
this country no matter how much money you make. All
this stuff, Michael Bennett is not telling the truth here.
All of the evidence that has since come out since
his statement has refuted his version of events. The Loss

(05:52):
of Vegas Police department came out and they said, look,
here's what happened. Watch this video. We had report of
gunshots inside of a nightclub. If you watch the video
so far that the Las Vegas Police have released, and
by the way, there have been two different versions come out,
maybe according to Las Vegas Police, as many as a

(06:16):
hundred and twenty different cameras that they will review and
put all of this out. Michael Bennett's story is not true.
Inside that casino, there were hundreds of people scrambling about
in a chaotic situation, believing that gunshots have been fired.

(06:37):
When you watch these videos, you see Las Vegas police
of all races courageously responding to a report of shots fired,
going into the casino with weapons drawn, working their way
through that casino looking to see whether or not there

(06:58):
is anyone with a gun, anybody of a threatening nature there.
As they swept that casino, one of the officers observed
Michael Bennett hiding behind a uh like a some sort
of object in that casino floor. It's a strange thing.

(07:23):
Just about everybody else's evil either exiting the casino or
they're literally laying on the ground not moving to make
sure that the police can see that they're not a threat.
Michael Bennett is hiding, crouching behind one of those objects
in a strange way. Look, I'm not an expert on

(07:44):
what behavior is normal and what behavior is abnormal, but
police officers are trained to recognize abnormal behavior. So he's
hiding as they sweep through the event, sweep through the floor,
as they secure the floor, Suddenly Michael Bennett gets up
and decides to start to sprint out of the casino.

(08:08):
As he's sprinting out of the casino, unlike everybody else,
he leaps a wall. He dives into the street, and
a police officer gives him chase and says stop. Stop.
He refuses to comply with orders until he's caught, and
then they put him in handcuffs, detain him and make

(08:30):
sure that he's not a threat or the shooter, or
someone who's trying to avoid detection for having committed a crime.
There they detain him for ten minutes, make sure that
he is not a threat, uncuff him, tell him why

(08:50):
they detained him, allow him to go, and he says
he understands everything according to the Las Vegas Police. Then
ten days later he puts out this statement the day
before the NFL season starts, as he's in the process
of writing a book while he's taking a need to

(09:10):
protest the national anthem. The day after, ESPN dot Com
runs a front page story about what a noble human
being he is. I'm telling you right now, his story
doesn't check out, and I'm probably the only person in
the sports media who you are going to hear be

(09:31):
willing to point out all of the inaccuracies in his
story that have developed within a few hours of that
story ever starting. You know why, because most people in
the sports media don't ask questions, they don't look at anything.
They accept every story on face value. I'm not a

(09:53):
guy who accepts stories on face value. I'm not a
guy who immediately assumes any time a story comes out, oh,
you know what, that's true. Look at what I've done
with Zeke Elliott. Everybody else out there doesn't read the documents,
They don't look at the actual evidence. They just make
a decision. Oh, beating up women as bad? Oh Zeke Elliott,

(10:18):
this is indefensible what he did. I look at the
actual evidence in all these cases, and when you look
at the Michael Bennett evidence, he was behaving in a
suspicious manner in a highly dangerous, highly fraught, highly perilous situation.

(10:41):
And the Las Vegas Police, you can watch the videos yourself,
they released them. I tweeted out these videos. The Las
Vegas Police did not behave in an inappropriate fashion. Moreover,
he claims that he was treated and singled out because
he's black. If you watch the video, every single person
in that video is black. He didn't stand out based

(11:06):
on his race at all. The reason why he was
put in handcuffs was because he was behaving in a
suspicious manner. They believed there had been shots fired and
he was hiding from the police on that ground level casino,
in their opinion, and then suddenly as they're securing that area,

(11:30):
he suddenly gets up and starts to sprint out into
the street, jumping over walls in a aggressive fashion, in
a way that, according to a Las Vegas police officer,
aroused suspicion. When told to stop, he refused to stop,

(11:52):
and they finally caught up with him and handcuffed him.
If Michael Bennett had been a shooter and the Las
Vegas Police had at him because of their police work here,
everybody would be louding them for what good jobs they
did managing to secure this location and capture someone who

(12:12):
had committed a crime of violence. It's incredibly commonplace in
situations such as these to detain people who were behaving
in a suspicious manner. Yet Michael Bennett makes the world
a worse place, something that he claims he's trying to
avoid by completely asserting racism when there's no basis in

(12:36):
fact to support the idea that this was racist at all. Again,
the entire audience of people there, everybody's black. He didn't
get singled out based on his race. Everybody there was
the same race. Moreover, the Las Vegas police storming this
casino where they believe shots have been fired, are of

(12:57):
all different races, of all differ from genders. This is
a diverse police force running towards reports of gunshots, trying
to protect the citizens of Las Vegas. And for that,
Michael Bennett makes up a story and makes them responsible

(13:18):
for his behavior. Just when all else fails, just scream racism.
Almost no one will ever actually look at the evidence
and determine whether or not it's justified at all eight
seven seven six three six nine open phone lines will
discuss this case. I think it's important not to accept

(13:40):
statements on face value, actually aggressively look into them. That's
what I do, That's what this show does. If you
want people who are just gonna give you surface level analysis,
there's plenty of other places you can go. Put Simply,
Michael Bennett is not telling the truth. His story is
falling apart, and I'm probably the only person in sports

(14:01):
media who's gonna actually be willing to tell you that.
I gotta tell you now that I've been sleeping on
my Casper mattress for a while. I pick it over
every mattress I ever had. It really does help me
get the best night's sleep period. Once you try Casper,
you're going to love yours as much as I love mine.
Switching to Casper is a no brainer. It's a higher
quality mattress at a more affordable price. I'm sleeping cool

(14:24):
and comfortable every night thanks to Casper's too high tech
phones much better than on the old, over price mattress
I used to have. It really does make a difference,
I'm telling you guys right now. And it's also pretty
amazing to see they ship right to your door for
free in a small how they do that size box.
They'll even pick it up if you don't love it
and refund you everything from its breakthrough design and superior
quality to its packaging to letting you try it for

(14:45):
a hundred nights, it's no wonder. Casper was named when
a fast company's fifty most innovative brands. Of Sleeping on
a mattress is the best way to try it. Put
Casper to the test in your own home for a
hundred nights, risk free. Go to Casper dot m and
use code OutKick for fifty dollars towards the purchase of
your mattress. That's Casper dot com code OutKick and get

(15:07):
fifty dollars towards the purchase of your mastress. Casper dot
com terms and conditions apply. Great news. Quick way you
could save money switched to Geico. Go to Geico dot
com and in fifteen minutes you could say fifteen percent
or more on car insurance. One of the things that
is worst about social media, and also I would say

(15:30):
our current politicized climate, is people don't actually look at
facts of individual cases. They look at what their worldview
is and then they assume that whatever happened fits that worldview.
And I talked about this all the time. We talked
about this with the Ezekiel Elliott case. I'll give you
an example. There are lots of people out there that say, well,

(15:53):
domestic violence is a serious issue. So if a woman
alleges domestic violence happened against her, then you have to
believe her, because domestic violence is a serious issue. And
I always take a step back and say, wait a minute, like,
you can believe that domestic violence is a serious issue
and not believe a individual incidence of domestic violence happened. Right.

(16:16):
One of the things that you learn in law school,
or certainly you learn if you are an investigator in
a police department, is you don't consider global views when
it comes to individual circumstances. You don't argue what the
world should be or what you think the world is.
You argue what the facts of your case are. You
investigate the facts of your individual case. Police understand this.

(16:40):
Warriors understand this. I don't think people on social media
or people in the world at large in the twenty
one century modern American society understand this. They hear a
story and they decide, Oh, racism is bad. Right, just
about everybody out there listening to us right now is like,
racism is bad. It sucks to get based on the
color of your skin. Sexism is bad. It sucks to

(17:03):
get judged based on what gender you are. Thinking that
somebody because of who they have sex with shouldn't be
believed is bad. Like all of these things I think
the vast majority of rational human beings agree with. But
just because all of those situations occur doesn't mean that
an individual circumstance or detail occurred. And what has happened

(17:24):
is the sports media has gone so far left wing
that when an athlete alleges something like this, which by
the way, for Michael Bennett to do, for a guy
who's claiming that he's trying to make the world a
better place, to come out and basically say Las Vegas
police are racist, they are awful, they are untrustworthy, and

(17:46):
so are police nationwide. He's telling a huge audience of
young people, many of whom are going to be minorities,
don't respect the police. They can't be trusted. When if
you watch that EEO, these police are courageous as hell.
There are reports of a shooter, and while everyone else

(18:08):
is going away from where the shooter is allegedly located,
the police are going towards the shooter. They're putting their
lives on the line. You can go watch the videos
that the Las Vegas police put out that night of
them walking into a casino, locked arm in arm, working
their way through a crowded, chaotic situation. They don't know

(18:33):
what happened, they don't know whether there's potentially people shot,
whether there's danger involved. And they see a guy in
Michael Bennett, crouching behind a slot machine or something downstairs,
you can't tell exactly, hiding, trying not to be seen.
And then as they are making sure that their floor

(18:56):
is safe, he suddenly sees an opportunit unity, hops up
and starts to run as fast as he can. Again,
we're not talking about a guy who was trying to
exit the casino. We're talking about a guy who was
hiding behind an object of some sort, stands up and
suddenly starts to run and the police say stop, stop,

(19:19):
and he refuses to stop. He jumps over a wall
down to a street, and they give pursuit because they
believe he's behaving in a suspicious manner. Now we don't
know whether Michael Bennett he was at the Mayweather McGregor fight,
according to his story, had he been drinking, Was he
under the influence of any substances. We don't know. Why

(19:40):
does that matter? Well, that can impact what you're recalling,
can also impact your decision making. Michael Bennett says he
was detained for what seemed like forever, ten minutes. He
says nobody told him anything at all. The Las Vegas
police say they specifically said, look, we had reports of
a gunshot, gunshots. We were afraid that you might be

(20:02):
involved with that because you were behaving in a suspicious manner.
You were hiding, crouching, trying to avoid being seen. And
then suddenly, when we had passed you, you jumped up
and sprinted out of the casino. You weren't singled out
because you were black. The entire casino was full of
black people. The police officers were a racially diverse and

(20:27):
made up of men and women. If they wanted to
just harass black people, there were literally hundreds of black
people they could have grabbed and harassed. You were stopped
because you behaved in a suspicious manner, and they wanted
to make sure that you might not have been the shooter.
They were doing their job as police officers, what they

(20:48):
were trained to do. You got detained ten minutes, They
verified that you were not a threat, and they let
you go, and they explained everything to you, which I'm
assuming we'll see the videos of. At some point he
said nobody said anything to him. Las Vegas police say
they specifically said you were detained for ten minutes in

(21:09):
this situation because we were afraid you were a threat.
Jason Martin, am I crazy to dive into this story
and unpack it and say, look, I just don't believe
what Michael Bennett is saying here. The evidence in this
case doesn't support what he is alleging. This was not racism.

(21:30):
I didn't speak originally yesterday on Twitter or anywhere else
because I didn't know. I didn't say anything on his
behalf after his statement came out, or on yours when
you kind of refuted it because of the time, all
we had was a written statement from a known activist
that everyone took his gospel, including many NFL players who
said that they cried when they read the story. Black

(21:50):
Lives Matter, Color of Change, celebrities, everybody came out for
Michael Bennett almost immediately. There were think pieces within an
hour saying that we all had to stand with Michael Bennett.
At that point, all I will say is Bennett is
someone that has shown a propensity, particularly as of late,
to stand for the very easy social media cause of

(22:13):
racism and anti police. He's been with CAPS since day one,
so his reaction would then match that brand of hysteria.
I actually believe he may believe what he said because
he doesn't think he did anything either wrong or suspicious,
and it appears based on the video that he's completely incorrect.
And I will point out that in two thousand and eighteen,
Michael Bennett has a book coming out called Things that

(22:34):
Make White People Uncomfortable. He sat for the anthem since
the beginning. It would make sense that he would immediately
believe the boys in Blue are out to get him,
and as soon as something goes wrong, he's immediately going
to look to his skin color, and he's immediately gonna
jump and run, even if he was doing absolutely nothing wrong,
which it certainly appears, at least on the surface that
he necessity doesn't wasn't necessarily doing anything wrong. But overall,

(22:59):
if you look at the video EOS, he was suspicious.
And it's hard to find. There's not a whole lot
of articles out there that are actually defending the police
here at all, because Michael Bennett is another easy case
that they can use to try and make whatever point
that they want to make in a larger context about
the police and about racism and about division in this country.

(23:20):
I wanted to wait for facts to come out at
all because a statement that came from Michael Bennett. Quite frankly,
I needed a little bit more than that, and I
needed to hear both sides. And I think that's the issue,
and you pointed to that in the first segment, is
can we wait until we hear both sides? It's of
a story before we jump to the conclusion that we
want to jump to either way. It is amazing to

(23:42):
me how and maybe this is just because I have
been involved in the criminal justice system, and maybe this
is because I was trained as a lawyer, and you
understand that there's always at least two sides of a story.
Frequently there's one side of a story, the other side
of the story ory and the real story, right. And
but the number of people who immediately assume that whatever

(24:06):
story fits their worldview the minute it came out, the
minute Michael Bennett put this out, everybody in the sports
media immediately accepted that he was telling the truth. Assume
that the police were awful racists. Assume that the police
were entirely to blame here, and that Michael Bennett had
done nothing to lead to this situation. When you actually

(24:29):
look at all the evidence, none of Michael Bennett's story
is holding up, except for the fact that he was
detained by police. Do you believe Michael Bennett or the
Las Vegas Police is our poll question. It's up right now.
You can go vote on Twitter right now. About six
hundred of you have voted, and this will be up
obviously the entire show. Seventy two of you believe the

(24:53):
Las Vegas police story over Michael Bennett. We'll take your calls.
Eight seven s six, Tim. Let's bring in Eddie Garcia. Eddie,
I told you yesterday to keep us updated on Hurricane Irma.
I'm gonna say that as well, Um, what are we
looking like? You can give us an update all day
on Hurricane Irma, like where she's headed everything else, but

(25:14):
to go ahead and get us ready for the news
as well. Yeah, I was anticipating that possibility. So I
tell you that Hurricane Irma is still a Category five
hurricane wins up till hundred eighty five miles per hour.
It's currently approaching Puerto Rico. Expect to make landfall in
Florida by Sunday. USA Today had reported that at least
ten people have died and authorities are struggling to get

(25:36):
aid to these small Caribbean islands that have been hit
very hard. Bar Buddha's Prime minister called the island barely
habitable and St. Martin saw extensive damage and was completely
destroyed in some places. As far as Florida, people have
been evacuated from the Florida Keys in a mandatory evacuation,
and there are some evacuations that have already been put
in effect for parts of Broward County and Dade County

(25:58):
as well. So they are are old bracing for Irma again.
Looks like Sunday. It will it will hit Florida. Lots
of people in South Florida. Obviously, we are listening to
the show right now. We're wishing you guys the best.
I know. It's total chaos there as far as the
sports world goes. We were wondering what they're gonna do.
The NFL was gonna do with that Buccaneers Dolphins game
schedule from Miami. Remember, they were thinking about moving it
to a neutral site, as you had the suggestion of

(26:20):
donating all the proceeds from that to obviously irma relief.
But they have decided to move the game to Sunday,
November nineteenth, week eleven of the NFL season, and that
will be in Miami and Clay of course, we are
opening up the season tonight in Foxboro with the Patriots
and the Chiefs looking ahead to Sunday and some of
the injury news and the Buffalo bill stay Tyrod Taylor,

(26:42):
their quarterback has cleared the concussion protocols, so he will
get the start Sunday against the New York Jets. Good stuff,
Thank you, Eddie Garcia coming to Alive from the Geico
Fox Sports Radio studio. Is easy to say or more
on car insurance with Geico, Geico dot Com or call
of an Auto. The only hard part figuring out which

(27:02):
way is easier. And with True Car you can find
out what other people in your area paid for the
same car you're looking for and on average save over
three grand off M s r P. Whether you're looking
for a new or used car. Visit True Car to
enjoy a more confident car buying experience. All right, let's
bring in l a poll question of the day. If
you're just waking up and you're joining us across the country,
do you believe Michael Bennett or the Las Vegas Police?

(27:25):
A little over approaching a thousand voters, and about seventy
three of you say you believe the Las Vegas police
story more than Michael Bennett. Uh. Let's go to Danny G. First.
What do you think, Danny G. I would like to
see more footage before I agree with you. Yeah, before
we call Bennett a liar, I mean the officer who
had his knee and gun on Michael didn't have his

(27:46):
body camera on. Now that it said, the article said,
there's a hundred and twenty six cameras that filmed the area,
so obviously they're sifting through all that right now before
they release a lot of it. But Clay a need
of the back and what looks like two guns pointed
right on a guy. Well, I think I think one
of those is a taser. Okay on the balcony. Uh No,

(28:08):
I I can't tell TMZ has that picture. They say
they're not sure if it's a gun, but I mean
there were definitely. I will say this, there were a
lot of guns drawn right if you watch that video
as they're going through the casino, they had reports of
an active shooter, so the police went in with their
guns drawn. I would guess that that is totally standard
operating procedure, so their guns, by and large were already

(28:29):
out now in that in that scene where he's cuffing him, like,
there's a picture that's out there. And I'm not an
expert on on handguns or anything else, but the number
of people that I have seen the one the guy
who's cuffing him, they're saying that he has a taser,
that it looks like a gun, but it's like a
taser with a light on it. I don't know, So
I'm not sure again what protocol is there, but they

(28:51):
all had their guns out and drawn. As you watch
that video that they released of these cops like going
into the casino and trying to work through that process.
So I will say, and I'm gonna come back to you,
Danny G. What I will say is one, I think
it's fair to say that he was not singled out
because he was black. Right. Every single person that I
can see in that video it appears, is black right,

(29:11):
male and female. So if they were just singling out
him because he was black, it would be literally impossible
to single him out based on his race because everybody
that they are coming into contact with is black. Two,
it's hard to see that he is. I mean, you
can definitely see that he is running from the police
and they are telling him to stop. So they definitely
witnessed him and then decided that they wanted to talk

(29:34):
to him for some reason. Now I don't ever understand,
like I don't understand how a t s A agent decides,
you know what, this person looks suspicious to me. They're trained,
They're supposed to be better at that than you or
I would be there. You know, if they had caught him,
if it isn't Michael been an NFL player, and it's
a guy who actually was firing gunshots and they recognized
that he was crouching and behaving in a suspicious manner,

(29:54):
and then they got him arrested. Like the guy would
get uh an award, right, So you don't necessarily there
and uh. The the other thing is the police. I
can't imagine the police would come out and say, we
detained him for ten minutes and we specifically walked through
the process of why we detained him with him if
there's not video of that, right, he says they didn't

(30:15):
never tell him anything. He says they didn't let him
know anything. The police in Las Vegas say no, no,
we detained him and then we specifically said, look, we're
sorry about this. We thought you were a threat, we
had reports of a gunfire, we've you know, we had
you in the back of a police cruiser. We made
the determination that you're not a threat, and they let
him go. So like he said that didn't happen. All

(30:36):
of those things, to me are pretty strong evidence now
that he is not telling the truth about those things. Now.
One of the things you learn when you're involved in
criminal investigations is people can believe that they are telling
the truth, and then they watch a video and find
out that they weren't actually telling the truth, right, Like
they have perceived things that did not actually happen. It's

(30:56):
actually incredibly common. So all of that now back to you. Yeah,
I think us folks here on the West Coast were
not surprised by this because the police in Las Vegas
have a reputation for being extra aggressive. I don't know
if you've heard stories, but they're known there in Vegas
to use excessive force. In fact, one of our regular

(31:16):
listeners sent me a couple of stats. He says that
the Department of Justice found seventy five incidents of misconduct
by Las Vegas Metro and Metro is in the papers
almost weekly there because dating back to eleven, they've paid
out more than six million dollars in legal settlements. And
this started with an unarmed veteran who was shot and

(31:39):
killed by a Metro officer. LEA understand that, but police
are not perfect, so all these I'm not saying that
we expect them to be purpose perfect. What I'm telling
you is Las Vegas cops, Metro there, they do have
this reputation of being way too forceful. But on this video,
I have yet to see anything that they did inappropriately.
If we got cops out there, you guys can call

(32:01):
in and be like, what would your response be if
you are going in like basically swat team style to
a crowded casino with reports of shot fired there, Like
this is the worst case scenario for Vegas, right, This
is what they work for, probably more than anything, is
shots fired in a crowded casino. Uh, potential bodies down danger,

(32:22):
their chaotic scene. There's people everywhere and they're trying to
figure out what's going on in that process. But he
he didn't have a gun in his hand. I mean
I could understand that need of the back and the
gun towards his head and another gun pointed Adam. It
seems excessive to me because it's not like he was
running with a weapon. Well you don't know whether he

(32:44):
has a weapon or not. Though, well, come on this,
this cop tackles him in has his hands, he knows
he doesn't have a weapon. You could still have a
weapon in your pocket. You could still have I mean,
you can still have another Like I did not see
anything about like when you get when you were running
from the pool, police and you were refusing to listen
to them, then they have an like that that to

(33:05):
me is evidence that something improper is going on, Like
he could have just stopped. I mean, there's tons of
people around there, right, he could have just stopped and
they could have walked right up to him and they
could have easily frisked him. They could have been like,
why are you running? Like if the police tell you
to stop, you stop. I mean, I don't know why.
That's a crazy concept, you know, Like this is an

(33:27):
evidence to me of creating situations that are worse when
you say don't trust the police, which is effectively what
Michael Bennett is saying, you are putting into operation. I
believe situations like these where people decide to run and
not stop, like you listen to the police, even if
they're telling you things you don't agree with. Listen to
the police. I don't know where this idea has gotten started,

(33:50):
that the police commands are you make a choice like
do I listen? Do I want to listen to the
police or not? When the police tell you to do something,
you do it? Don't know, like this is what I
was told, This is what I tell my kids. Now,
does are there other people. Like when the police tell
you to stop, you stop. When the police tell you
to stand up, you stand up. When the police tell

(34:10):
you to sit down, you sit down. Listen to the police,
do exactly what they say. Like even if you disagree
with them, you can follow the lawsuit later. You can
raise issues with them later. I'm a lawyer. I'm telling
you can do it, but you are obligated to follow
the instructions of a police officer. Police are not perfect,

(34:31):
but don't make their job harder. Gonna take your calls
eight seven seven three six nine talking about the Michael
Bennett case. Why I don't believe his story and why
I believe the Las Vegas police are telling more of
the truth here than he is. This is out kicked
the coverage on Fox Sports Radio. Great news. Quick way

(34:51):
you could save money. Switch to Geico. Go to Geico
dot com and in fifteen minutes you could say fifteen
cent or more on car insurance as well. Stopp into
your local auto zone for the parts, products and helpful
advice you need to get the job done right. Let's
get you what you need. Get in the zone. Auto Zone.
A couple of other interesting facts, uh that are out there.
Michael Bennett's own attorney has now come out publicly and

(35:15):
said race was not a factor in this story. The
attorney for Michael Bennett says, and this is according to
tweet I just retweeted, Uh says race wasn't a factor
in his client's arrest. Well, first of all, his client
wasn't arrested. He was detained, but lack of probable cause
was mayfile civil rights complain. Okay, I mean I can
see that argument. You can argue that you didn't have

(35:38):
probable cause here there was no reason for you to
need to detain him. But I would fire back with this,
and we got a bunch of calls. By the way,
eight seven seven six three six nine. Uh, Peter, who
is a attorney? I'm sorry? Who is a police officer? Uh?
Just just sent me a message, He says. I've been
a police officer for ten years and work as a

(35:59):
third shift detective and violent crime. I'm just getting home
from work and I'm staying in my car to listen
to your comments on Michael Bennett. I had to go
immediately and like you on Facebook because you're the only
person getting this story right. Police profile behavior if you're
in a police car and pull up next to forty
nine people at a stoplight, they act a certain way.
If the fiftieth person acts differently towards your presence, you

(36:22):
have to suspect that something is going on. Bennett acted
differently than every person in that same situation. Of course,
he will draw the attention of the police. I enjoyed
your show up to this point, but now you've earned
a fan. That is Peter, who is a member of
the of the police department in the state of Indiana.
And we have Mike and Santa Clara. He's a police officer.

(36:45):
Just indeed, let's go to Mike. Michael, what's up. Hey,
I do and I agree with everything Peter just said. Um,
I just want to add a little bit to that.
I mean, when I've been an oper for almost twenty
years now, and I can tell you right now there's
the atmosphere of things we're going now, never seen it
the way it is now, And it's because the incidents
like this are the bad apples. Of course, are there
bad cops? Of course, the majority of cops are good people. Now,

(37:07):
just gonna explain a little bit about the active shooter.
I mean, I trained people on active shooting. Yeah, okay,
when I tell us what happens. Okay, we're trained that
when we go to an active shooter situation, our guns
are drawn. There's just no there. They're drawn because we're
anticipating somebody's gonna have a gun and we're gonna have
to take take care of his and take them down.

(37:28):
So we go in those incidents we assume in our
minds that everybody is a threat until we figure out
if they are not a threat, and that means we
may have to put people on the ground. We may
have to yell and scream at them, get on the ground,
get on the ground. They would be in this said folks.
But once we pat them down, figured out they're not
the threat, then we let him go. Now we always
have our guns drawn, that's the thing. And so even

(37:49):
though Michael Bennett may have not shown he had a gun,
we don't know he could have concealed it. It could
be in his waistands so is there going to be
a leastal thread on him. Of course there is. There's
gonna be someone there with a gun pointed at him.
In case he does go for that weapon, the officers
can detect themselves. So everything that those officers did there
was nothing wrong. They've got them up. They got the
wrong person, okay, And a lot of this I'm gonna

(38:09):
put on the blame of Michael Bennett. Why did he run?
Like you said, If there's people around there doing like
you said, forty nine of them are doing all the
same things. One does something wrong or does something different,
of course that's gonna stick out like a sword something.
He started running, Why is he running or the officers
need to figure that out and they're gonna stop him.
So what I can see, the officers did nothing wrong.

(38:32):
And uh, you talked about the environment. I think this
is a big deal. Like people like Michael Bennett say
they're trying to make the world a better place. But
when he comes out and says police profiled him based
on his race, he makes people trust police less, which
makes it more dangerous for all other people of all
different races because they're not respecting police authority. Do you
see that in the streets now? Having you said you've

(38:53):
done this for thirty years years, is it worse now
than it was in the early two thousands in terms
of respect on the streets for police officers? Very much.
Tell me, I'm lucky where I work. I mean, it's
a pretty decent area. But you know, I see it
all the time, and in fact, I see it from
my daughter. My daughter is seventeen years old and I've
always told her this and when she's been little. If

(39:13):
you get stopped by the police, you do exactly what
they tell you to do. You may not agree with
what they're doing at that moment, but at that moment
it's not the time to argue with the police officer.
There are avenues to go to appeal whatever is happening,
to make, you know, any kind of complaints, but at
that moment, it is not the time to make that complaint.
And nowadays people are just so blatantly they want to challenge.
They're trying to push that envelope is to see how

(39:35):
what is this officer's gonna do now? And it's yeah,
I've never seen it the way it is now, And
it's because the incidents like this. Instead of saying, you know,
trust the police officers. Ninety percent of police officers out there,
they want to do the right thing. They're good people.
Listen to what they're telling. You know, it's the other
way now, it's like distrust the police because all they
want to do is kill and shoot you. And that
is the furthest from the truth. It's it's really it's

(39:56):
sad right now the way things are going. If this
story comes out to Michael Bennett, you know, is lying,
it sounds like, you know, he is lying about what
exactly what happened. I mean, it's going to be a
slap in the base to the NFL. I appreciate the call.
Thanks for all you do, Mike and Santa Clair twenty
years as a police officer. We're gonna take your calls.
Eight seven seven, six three six nine to open hour two.

(40:17):
We're discussing the Michael Bennett situation in Las Vegas. Do
you believe him or do you believe Las Vegas police?
And why has it become such a bad environment police
in general? Here on Fox Sports Radio, Oh from the
Geico Fox Sports Radio Studios. Fifteen minutes could save you
fifteen cent or more on car insurance. Visit Geico dot
com for a free rate quote as well. During last

(40:37):
battery's proven tough and designed to stand up to even
the most extreme weather conditions, with patented technology to deliver
the most power during startup. Get in the zone, Auto
zone where you're in the zone here? Poll question discussing
what was the number one story yesterday? Do you believe
Michael Bennett or the Las Vegas Police. Michael Bennett comes
out says he was treated poorly because of his race

(40:58):
during the report of a shooting in the wake of
the Mayweather McGregor fight Michael Bennett settle Seahawks defensive lineman.
Since then, uh the Las Vegas Police have contradicted many
of the assertions he made in his statement, which everyone accepted,
mostly in the sports media, as a percent true. Las
Vegas Police have shot down several of the details, proving
that there at least some falsehoods and Michael Bennett's statement.

(41:20):
His own attorney has since come out Michael Bennett's own
attorney and said that race was not a factor in
the way that he was treated, which is the entire
basis of his entire statement. When your own attorney does
not back you up, it is not ideal, Boys and girls.
That means that your own attorney, who has heard your
entire statement, who has reviewed all the evidence, When your
own attorney says that race was not a factor in

(41:43):
your story, and you released a statement that says entirely
race was a factor. Somebody ain't telling the truth. Uh.
And our poll question is up, do you believe Michael
Bennett or the Las Vegas Police? Seventy of you believe
the Las Vegas Police. Um, so what questions? Who should
we go to? Jason Martin? We got a load of

(42:03):
the lines I believe. Who should we go to? Next? H?
Gary and Memphis? Gary and Memphis? What's up? Gary? Probably
trev Yes, Good morning, Good morning. How are you doing good? Listen,
I'm on the way to work and it's your home state,
and I'm pretty sure you hop about violence down being

(42:26):
I'm on my way to work. I listened your show
every morning. Does the find bab lab that break points
on sports? Uh? To relax in my mind? That Uh well,
at this point at my blood greaps and stuff. Uh,
I don't want to touch on the point fellow officers
party brought us you. You are you are an officer.

(42:47):
You are a police officer in Memphis. I just started
year okay, twenty four year yeah, one one year to go,
and I'm trying to line down the point is your
crew member on the West coast? Uh? Parent member Sank
talking about the that's understanding of why why did the
police have the schools are done? You know he said,

(43:09):
well he didn't have a gun. Well, uh, countless scenarios
of my pointy s four year history on the stub.
We get a call. We have no idea that the
fake call of somebody with a gun, or it could
be a stolen car something. When they run, I have
no idea what you're going on. I have. I want
to see their hands. Sometimes we have indications that kind

(43:30):
of hold the wa man up in front of them.
The k fact, how many guys I have Jason tackle
and once my cup of stuffs on them patterns down.
I'm founding this in relations So when you go into
that situation, you've gotta have the mindset I'm going home
to my kids every night and I and so you
feel the huge that's the simple minded people like you're

(43:50):
crew member on the West of No offense is fund
to de spicality. What got my blood pretty cres So
let me ask you this. You've been on the force
and thanks for what you do down in Memphis only
four years. Have you noticed my my big thing with
guys like Michael Bennett is they claim that they're trying
to make the world a better place. And he comes
out and says he's profiled based on his race. His
own attorney says it's not true, and it makes young

(44:12):
minority kids in particular distrust the police even more and
not be willing to listen to commands, not respect the
authority of a police officer. Have you seen that in
the streets of Memphis as you've been working as a
police officer, that kids today that they have less respect
and believe and obey officers less than when you started,
Or is that something that's not true in your experience? True, Rtar,

(44:39):
they throw it out and and in our modern let's
go back to Michael Brown. Every subject that we've talked
about since Michael Brown, I used him to bantis because
I believe that is closed. Any one of these people
that we've been talking about, Michael Brown, the guy in
New York Cigarettes, and even Michael Bennett, any one of

(45:00):
these people had would have get done with the police
on and and like like they montell Off spoke of
previously under the show, we wouldn't even be talking about
right this, This wouldn't need to be a subject in America.
Just listen to cops, do what cops say, and the
stories did not accelerate in any way. Yes, fair, and

(45:21):
it's like to raise your kids. I've raised my kids
and and it's gonna give you an example of of
what happened done. Let's let's say, for an example, what
do you play for as to tail White, Let's say
that we're I'm I'm gonta make a dona. Let's say
we're we're eating or donas. And that's but if we
were hanging out or talking or just left the call

(45:43):
the way robbery goes out at a seven left. The
description of the male white six to blue plat T
shirt on take shorts had flipped flops on robbery of
here's how we'll get the com m robbery seven eleven,
male white six to blue flat shirt take short. Uh.
Gun was pointed at the clerk or shots were fired,

(46:04):
money was taken. He left running northbound on home streets.
All right, we're gonna convert in that area. All right?
Why are you Travis to be walking out of his house?
But don't get this newspaper or walking down the streets
for a morning vall play a six food or a
blue flat T shirt tagny shorts and fir boss, why
do you think we're gonna approach. I'm not gonna get

(46:24):
out and say, excuse me, sir, can County desult. I'm
gonna come out with my gun drawn and I'm gonna
give you some my hand. Well, what you should do
is put your hands up and say yes, rurry, yes, third,
and then your mind like what in the world was
going on? But if you comply and we get situations
figured out, like we'll all let you go explain the
situations like thinking of the law. Faker's officers probably explained

(46:47):
to having what was going on, and then you're gonna
be on your weapon. I appreciate the call, and you're
exactly right. I mean I appreciate the call. Somewhere along
the lines listening of cops and and we're hearing from
a lot of cops. Have got another one that I
want to hear from here from all over the country.
Like if you're Michael Bennett and you are ostensibly trying

(47:09):
to make the world a better place, that's what he's
claiming he's doing with his protest. You are coming out
and blaming race for your treatment here when your own
attorney doesn't support that argument. You're making things more difficult
for people across the country. When you artificially interject race

(47:32):
into this relationship between police and minorities and say police
can't be trusted, they're lying. You create the powder keg
that is these interactions. He's right, you know, Like, this
is why I tell my kids everybody should do this
if all races. When a police officer gives you a command,
you do it. It's an easy response. I'm an attorney.

(47:55):
I understand that sometimes police officers tell you things that
you don't think are appropriate, but you listen to them,
just do what they say. Like, I can't believe that
I have to be the person saying this. Let's go
to Steve and Idaho. Steve, what's up, Bakeley, how are

(48:16):
you doing this morning? I am doing well. Yeah. I
was a police officer for about twelve years up here
in Idaho, and I always worked in a place where
I was by myself at one point in my closest
back up with sixty plus miles away. And police officers,
you know, when you get a call of shot spired,

(48:39):
what do you expect us to do? Walk in and
smile and say hide folks house at go on. You
know you go in with your gun drawn. You're trying
to protect people. I had a situation one time I
went I was called down to a motel. I got
down there, there were two black people. I stepped out.
The first words out of their mouth were, what are
you doing here? We knew about you racist Idaho cops.

(49:02):
I'm thinking, yeah, right by black roommates in college for
a couple of years would really tell you about that.
I used to live Standy's house all the time, and
and and I just kind of got a theory is
police officers yet they don't they're not racist for the
most parts. They they have problems with the people who

(49:23):
give them the most problems up here in Idaho and
this part we don't have a whole lot of blocks.
But they got Native Americans. If you grow, if you're
a cop on a naeding American area, you might be
a little bit careful, you know about Native Americans. If
you're an Asian area, maybe Asian spatting is spending. The
places I had problems with were loggers, miners or people

(49:46):
when I lived close to Sun Valley, because they're all
arrogant and give me problems. I appreciate the call. Lots
of cops calling in. That's Steve and Idaho. It is funny.
I mean, like when you get reports of shots fired,
you go in with your guns drawn and you see
somebody behaving in a suspicious fashion, like Michael Bennett, like,

(50:08):
that's kind of what we expect the cop to do.
And I love the fact that his own attorney has
come out and said race was not a factor, so
that basically invalidates his entire statement. He behaved in a
suspicious manner, cops chased him down, verified that he wasn't
a threat, and let him go and explain him why.
That's a good example from Gary and Memphis talking about

(50:29):
if I were out walking on the street and they
had a idea and a p b out for what
the suspect looked like, They're gonna pull me over, you know,
and and make sure I'm not the guy. And in
this situation, we trust a cop to be trying to
protect everybody. A guy who's hiding from the cops and
then takes off at a full sprint jumps a wall

(50:52):
is behaving in a suspicious manner. Maybe he just overreacted.
Maybe Michael Bennett had alcohol. Maybe he had been Uh
you know, maybe he wasn't in his right mind. It's Vegas.
People do all sorts of crazy stuff. It's after the fight,
it's a late night, and he's gonna say that the
reason why all this happened was because of racism. I

(51:13):
think it's just crazy and the fact that everybody just
eats it up. Nobody called him on it. I'm probably
the only person in sports media who you were going
to hear just about today actually rigorously examining this story
and pointing out why it's not true. Zack in Kansas City?
What's up? Zack? Hey, what's going on? Clay? Uh? You know,

(51:36):
I I don't agree with the the idea that it
was racially motivated. Um, but as a white male, UM,
I worked nights. UM. I was actually on the phone
calling the Ben Maller Show and I was arrested. I've
been I've had to deal with police officers. Got arrested
while you were on the phone calling Fox Sports Radio. Yes,

(51:58):
and Danny and Eddie can both test the fight of that. Um,
it's about a year ago. What did you get arrested?
I made a wrong turn. UM, it's a whole long story. Basically,
there was not appropriate signage. UM, A frontage road was
turned into an exit ramp literally that night, didn't know
made a wrong turn. I was pulled over. UM. I

(52:21):
told the officer that had a firearm in my vehicle
and from that point things escalated. But my point is
that from my experience with police officers, most of them,
and I mean a heavy most are honest, hard working
people that are trying to do their job. But how
can you discredit and over use of force by saying

(52:42):
that his entire story is I mean, it is devalued
when he was But what do you need to be policed? Okay,
what is over hold on? What over use of force
happened here? Again? No, no thanks for the calling. I mean,
if a police officer can call in who watched this
video and says, yeah, this is a flagrant over use

(53:04):
of force. Again, these guys all if you watch the video,
these guys are reporting to a location for shots fired.
They all have their weapons drawn. Every single police officer
that you see in these videos as they're going through
the casino has their weapons drawn because they have responding
to a report of shots fired. So I E. There's

(53:24):
someone with a weapon there who is a threat, and
so they are all going in with their guns drawn.
This is not like that. Michael Bennett's just walking down
the street on the Vegas Strip and there's no crimes
around at all, and suddenly he gets tackled and somebody
pulls a gun out. Guns were already out because of

(53:44):
the report of shots fired. So what I saw, and
again I'm not an expert on police procedure, I've worked
in criminal law, but what I saw did not seem
outside the bounds of reasonable behavior at all to me.
James and Winston Salem, James, what's up? Thank you for

(54:05):
taking a call. Um, I'm hearing. Well, that's a little bit.
It though profiled and talked about how the people he
had problems with in a rich neighborhood who act But
he's proving that they profiled. That's not hold on, that's
not profile. That's specifically he said, people in rich neighborhoods

(54:28):
can act up to you around it. That's not profiling. Oh,
that's not pro they can. Okay, So he's assuming before
he gets in there. Do you understand how the work
can works? If I say my wife can have sex
with me tonight. That means she might. It doesn't mean
she's going to. All right, I'm not profile. I wish.
I wish that I knew every night she was going
to have sex with me when I say she might, Okay,

(54:48):
that's that's fine, all right, So as they're as cops forever,
however many years. I'm a citizen, been a citizen for
thirty something years, and I'm telling me, I haven't met
me who are decent. All right, hang up on him,
Hang up on him, Hang up on him, hang up
on him. I don't want to hear your story. When
you say I haven't met any cops who are decent,

(55:09):
honest people. You are saying to me, oh, they're profiling.
You just came out and said an entire profession of
people are not decent and honest. I don't have any
interest in your opinion from this point forward period. If
you call up and you say, hey, uh, I think
that every police officer is a total ass, well, I
don't have any interest in your opinion. You've established that

(55:30):
your opinion is not worthwhile. If you called up and
you said, hey, uh, you know, I either, in my experience,
every single person who's in the army is a total ass. Well,
you know what, not really interested in your opinion. Your
opinion is not valid, not worth here. You were wrong.
You just you call in and complained about police profiling

(55:54):
and then proceed to say, in your experience, every police
officer is an awful human being. The irony meter doesn't
even go off in your head because you're too stupid.
James and Winston Salem, Jose and Fremont. What's u? Jose?
What's going on? But hey, man, I'm gonna tell you
thank you because you know what, Man, you keep it real, bro.

(56:14):
I'm calling a couple of things. Man, First of all,
hanging in with me. First of all, for for ignorance,
free ignorance. There's cops, yeah, that are ignorant, but for
people to run from the cops and put them in
a situation that's also ignorant. And you know what, this
Bennet is creating an issue now where these kids are
gonna go mimic what he does and run and potentially

(56:36):
get a kid killed. Man. And another thing for you,
for one of your one of your guys in the
studio to say that that l A Las Vegas force
has had cases of misconn you know what, that's nothing
to do with this case. And that's ignorant as well,
because this is on video blatantly showing this cat running
away from the cops. That's just stupid and ignorant. Thank

(57:00):
for the call. Look, I mean, you could have lots
of opinions here, right, but to me, the fact that
Michael Bennett's opinion was taken as the gospel truth here
and nobody pushed back on it for almost the entire
day until the Las Vegas Police Department said, wait a minute,
here's our video. Here he is crouching down in this casino.

(57:20):
Here are cops responding to a report of shots fired
with their weapons drawn. Here he is crouching down trying
to hide. Here he is taking off, behaving in a
suspicious manner, jumping over a ledge, running full speed towards
the street, trying to get away, not responding to officers
when they're staying stop, stop, stop, and that somehow like

(57:41):
he says all that happened because he's black, and his
own attorney now is saying, you know what, his race
didn't have anything to do with this story, which makes
total sense if you watch the video, because everybody in
the video is black like. It would be the height
of absurdity if these cops, who by the way, are
represent a variety of different races and also genders, had

(58:02):
shown up and they were just trying to go after
a black guy. There literally were hundreds of black guys
there they could have picked. They picked him Michael Bennett
because he was behaving in a suspicious manner, and they
told him exactly why they did this. And then yet
he's still put out this statement. Michael Bennett to me
as a fraud because he's claiming that he's trying to
make the world a better place, and with this entire statement,

(58:23):
he's making the world a more dangerous place. He's making
it more difficult for police officers, he's making more difficult
for minorities. And I'm almost the only damn person who's

Today we're talking about Michael Bennett's story and how it's

(01:00:15):
fallen apart all around him. But we yesterday talked to
a guy down in St. Thomas, the United States, Virgin Islands.
I used to live down there and they have already
gotten hit now by Hurricane Irma. His name was Ryan.
He was set up for the for the big storm
coming in. And I'm curious what the damage was in St. Thomas.

(01:00:35):
So let's go to Ryan. I believe we have him
right now. Ryan, how bad was it? How are you
guys doing. We're fine. Let's just preface that we're all
in good health. Nothing bad happened, But in terms of
physical damage, it was pretty bad. It was probably four
hours of just NonStop, intense like the worst wind you've

(01:00:57):
ever seen and never been through a hurricane. I've never
been through one, but it was it was insane, insane
seeing the trees just pop all over themselves and all that.
Like there was a car outside that literally got picked
up and put onto the sidewalk, and it was it
was very surreal. How bad is the damage? First of all,
do you still have like power? Do you have like

(01:01:19):
the ability to turn on a television? Do you have
the ability do you have electricity? Like? What is the
status of your hotel room? Well, we have nothing. Um.
We have a generator going until about two and then
a tree fell on it and then in the middle
of the night we lost water, so we don't have
any water or power. Um. But this physical structure of
the hotel is fine. Some of the roof ripped off

(01:01:41):
and some windows were blown in, but in terms of
where we are, it was it was basically fine. Can
you see out Have you ventured out in any way
to see what the damage looks like on the rest
of the island. Do you have any idea are the
roads passable? Like? What do you see? Uh from a
you know, kind of general perspective from your place. Well,

(01:02:02):
I'm I was able to walk down to the beach
and there was a sailboat that was ripped from its
mooring and just kind of sitting on our beach. All
the sand is gone. Um, all the coral has been
displaced onto it. I can't really see any of the roads.
There's a curfew, so we're not really allowed to leave. Um.
That's about the best I can tell about the roads.
I know. I did call Delta and they said that

(01:02:24):
the airport is going to be closed until at least Saturday,
So the yeah, at least Saturday before you guys could
theoretically get out. And now you're not that far from
the airport. But I lived in the Virgin Islands and
so many of those roads are windy on hills, their
two lane highways. It's impossible sometimes to drive on some
of these old roads anyway, So you don't have any
idea how passable the roads are or anything like that. Um,

(01:02:46):
in general, how scary was it to be there for
I mean a Category five hurricane. You said for about
four hours it was intensely though the wind was coming through.
Uh that that had to be pretty wild. Yeah, I mean,
to be honest, it kind of got to my core,
you know it. It shook our nerves and we we
didn't know what was going to happen for a little bit,
but you know, we just needed to stay calm and

(01:03:08):
we do. Whatever is gonna happen is gonna happen. So
that's the best we could do. Anybody at the hotel
have any sense for when the generator might be back up,
when you might have power again, No, they the tree
fell on it, busted it open, and they just flooded.
So they're working on getting it running. The hotel next
to us has power, but they're only letting people in

(01:03:29):
that hotel will use, you know, their facilities, which is
kind of unfortunate. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure that's going
to become an issue for a long time. Well, uh,
you've got big games going on this weekend. You have
cell phones, you have battery charger stuff like that cell
phone battery chargers. I'm gonna call out if I can't
watch the game, I'm gonna call out and get a
play by play over the phone the best I can.
All right, So give people your Twitter handle. I know

(01:03:50):
you added a lot of followers yesterday who wanted to
to see that. Maybe at some point you can go
out and walk around and show some of the damage.
What's your Twitter handle? That's that a true blue part.
And I'll be once I get up my phone working again,
I'll be putting. I have a ton of videos and
pictures and stuff. Sonn't see that outstanding stuff. Will stay safe. Uh,
congratulations on surviving the most destructive hurricane to hit maybe

(01:04:15):
in the history of the Atlantic Ocean, at least recorded history.
And uh, and good luck getting back state side. Hopefully
Delta can get you out of there before long. Thanksically
appreciate it. That is Ryan, he is in St. Thomas.
All right, we're gonna take your calls eight seven seven
six three six nine. We'll go to those calls here momentarily,

(01:04:36):
but first let's bring in Eddie Garcia. Kind of a
perfect segue to the Hurricane Irma. Watch. We got a
guy in St. Thomas who lived through Hurricane Irma. As
it's now moving across Puerto Rico and advancing stealthily towards
the Florida coast. Yes, right, Clay, and it's still a
category five hurricane. Winds are still around a hundred eighty

(01:04:57):
miles per hour. As you mentioned, it's some would be
past Puerto Rico and now heading towards the American Republic,
and they're expecting to make landfall in Florida by late
Saturday early Sunday. USA today's reporting at least ten people
have died. Authorities are still struggling to get aid to
the islands there in the Caribbean. Bar Buddhas, Prime Minister
called the island barely habitable. Local official in Saint Martin

(01:05:21):
said that of that island is destroyed and of roads
in h Angoula are reportedly impassable. Uh. Hopefully Hurricane Irma's
gonna lose strength as an approaches Florida. But even if
it were to go down to say a category three,
that we're still talking winds of a hundred and eleven
to a hundred and twenty nine miles per hour. So
even if even if the power of this thing kind

(01:05:43):
of reduces, it's still going to be powerful when it
hits Florida. Out there's been two people evacuated from the
Florida Keys. Those are mandatory evacuations, and they're also evacuating
parts of Broward County and Dade County as well. And oh,
by the way, Hurricane Jose has now formed in the
Atlanta Now it's east of Hurricane Irma, and right now

(01:06:03):
the National Hurricane Center is saying that it doesn't oppose
any threat at this point, but of course it's also
gaining strength and could become an issue later on. So
even after Hurricane Irma, that it could be Hurricane Jose
as well. Yeah, I know. Uh, sports world affecting by
the Hurricane Dolphin season opener gets the Buccaneers moved from

(01:06:24):
this UH Sunday to week eleven. It'll still be in Miami.
University of Miami and Arkansas State game has been canceled,
and both Florida and Florida State have moved their game
times up on Saturday to noon Eastern time, all because
of the hurricane. Did want to throw out their real
quick baseball In the National League, Diamondbacks won their franchise
record three in a row, while the Dodgers lost in

(01:06:47):
that game three to one. And that's eleven losses now
in twelve games for the Dodgers, who looked unbeatable at
one point in the season and now can't seem to
go to win good stuff, Eddie Garcia, We're coming to
you alive from the guic Fox Sports rate. You know
studio is easy to say moron car insurance with Geico,
go to guy Go dot com or call seven Auto. Uh.
The only hard part figuring out which way is easier.

(01:07:09):
And with True Car you can find out what other
people in your area paid for the same car you're
looking for and on average save over three grand off
M s r P. Whether you're looking for a new
or used car. Visit Treue Guard to enjoy a more
confident car buying experience. Who should we go to first here?
Jason Martin, Kevin and Nashville. Kevin in Nashville. What's up? Kevin? Anybody?

(01:07:30):
How are you? Hey? Good Man? Hey, I appreciate what
you do. Hey, real quick. I was a cop for
thirty years in l A. I've retired and moved out
here last year. I'm listening to everything you say. I
want to talk about Hurricane Bennett. You know it's uh,
it boggles my mind when that guy that you have
on your show starting to talk about stats and six

(01:07:50):
million dollarsleven and payouts are excessive forces, chump change. It's
nothing I've used every I've used every every type of
force in thirty years that you you name it, I've
used it. And uh, I've been through Rodney King, the riots,
everything else, and all all you have to do is
think about this political agenda. I've been at he uh,

(01:08:12):
he kneels during the darning anthems. He's part of that
protest group. This is this is an agenda. He's making
this a big deal out of nothing. I have zero
respect for him, is zero respect for the organization. I'm
completely losing respect for the NFL because of this, and
they are not doing anything to help the problem. The
cops are not the problem. The problem is is that

(01:08:35):
there's an agenda here and he's just he's just making
it worse. Thanks for the call. I agree with you.
I think he is making things worse. If his stated
goal is to make things better, then his statement where
he's blaming race with his own attorney saying it's not
race based, he's a liar and nobody else is calling

(01:08:56):
him out on it. Let's go to mac and Vancouver, Vancouver, Canada.
What's up, mac Y, what's going on? Man? Living the dream?
Mac Hey, Man, I'm just listening to everybody on here,
you know, talking and it seems like the vast majority
of people are saying that it's not the cops tault.
And I'm not even talking about this in particular situation

(01:09:19):
with Bennet because I haven't seen the video, but I'm
telling you, like now, this issue that's going on, it's
very real. I've been a victim of it myself. And
then they just always saying, Uh, do whatever the cops
asked you to do. Hey, that's not always gonna be
the answer, because if you haven't done anything. The guy

(01:09:39):
was talking about coming outside cutting grass or walking his dog,
and he fit the description and all this type of
ras matask. Yeah, it's okay if they come and question you,
and then you're going about your business. But when they
come in question, they put the cups from you and
take you to jail. That's a whole another level right there.
We don't have anything. You're not going to be convicted
of a crime. Huh. If you haven't done anything, you're

(01:10:02):
probably not gonna be convicted of a crime. Oh that's
not true, man. I'm gonna tell you like this, man,
I served two years in prison in Texas bro pull
some trumped up charges I'm in Canada right now, just
for me to get into the country when our originally came,
originally came, they denied me here, I got a lawyer,

(01:10:23):
I went through the whole nine yards and they found
by their judgment that I was falsely in cost A. Ready,
So what did you go to jail for? If you
haven't done nothing, nothing will happen. Come on, man for you, Well,
I'm asking you what you go to jail for. I
went to jail for assault, for assaulted who for assault

(01:10:47):
of another human being? And a woman like like who?
A man? I went to the assault for another man
with a with a weapon. The guy actually the guy
actually hit me for I responded, I did do it.
I'm not saying I didn't, but because he is the
one who went to the laws, Okay, for whatever reason,

(01:11:09):
I get in court. And that's why I'm telling you
is from the inside out. When you go to court,
as especially as a brother, you're going to court, they're
not gonna say, hey, well, what's your side of the story,
what really happened. That's not how the discussion plays. From
the inside, the stand right and tell your side of
the story to a jury. At the end of the day.
Did you have a jury? A lot of huh did

(01:11:31):
you have a jury? No? I didn't have a jury.
Why didn't you have a jury. That's why I'm explaining
it to you do have a jury trial, because when
you go into court, these lawyers they're not asking you
what happened, how did it go down? They're not asking
you that. They look at the paperwork and they come

(01:11:52):
to you and they say, well, um, either you're gonna
sign probation or either you're gonna take one, or if
you go to court, guess what you're gonna get fifteen years.
And you know I didn't. You fled to you agreed
to serve two years. No, I agreed to serve probation,

(01:12:14):
and then you violated your probation and you went to jail.
All right, So I agreed to break it down to you.
I agreed to certain probation. They gave me the probation
after we went to court numerous times, and they kept saying,
if you don't sign this, then you're going to prison.
So I eventually signed, and once I signed for probation,

(01:12:35):
they sent me back to court. They violated. They gave
me ten violations. Out of that ten violations. Only one
was true, and even when I went into court, the
judge admitted it. The only thing that I was in
violation of I was eighteen hours behind on community service.
I stood in front of the judge and he said, okay,

(01:12:55):
so you didn't do this, didn't do this, so you're
pleading guilty to being eighteen I was behind on community service.
I said, yes, sir, I'm eighteen hours behind on community service.
He said, okay, two years prison. That's exactly what happened.
That stinks. You know what, I think you should have
done the eighteen hours of community service. Thanks for the call. Look,

(01:13:18):
if you don't do what the court says, then judge
has the right to invalidate your your probation. Like the
guy says I did it, I didn't do what I
was supposed to, and then I got put in jail. Yeah,
that's why jail exists. Look, I did criminal law. Nobody

(01:13:38):
in jail ever did it. Everybody who's ever been in
jail didn't do it. Every cop who's ever arrested anybody
guy didn't do it. I have yet to meet a
single criminal defendant who said, you know what, damn right,
I did it. They caught me. And you know what,
I did a bunch of other crap too, and they
didn't even catch me for that. Because that's usually true, right,

(01:13:58):
You don't get caught the time. Typically you commit a crime,
you get caught a woe level percentage wise of your
overall crimes. By and large, everybody in prison didn't do it,
every single person. You have to hear somebody say, you
know what, I was in the wrong. I did it,
they caught me. Nobody did it. Eight nine. Do your

(01:14:23):
eighteen hours of community service. Dude, you're facing jail time.
Go get your community service done. Don't blame other people own.
You got a birth there. Man couldn't even control it own.
You make good decisions. Listen to cops. These are like

(01:14:44):
I can't believe I have to say this. If a
judge tells you to do something, to do it. If
a cop tells you to do it, do it. Don't
be dumb. I'll kick the coverage. Clay Travis on Fox
Sports Radio, walking back in. You gotta tell you now
that I've been sleeping on my Casper mattress for a while.
I pick it over every match US I've ever had.
It is awesome. Helps me get the best night's sleep,
and once you try it, you're gonna love yours as

(01:15:05):
much as I love mine. It's a no brainer. Higher
quality mattress at a more affordable price. I'm telling you, guys,
I want to be out there right now. Wife's coming
around saying, hey, we need new mattress. You're like, man,
I don't want to buy a mattress so expensive, difficult,
spends a lot of time on it. Just do what
I did. Go to Casper dot com. Use the code
out kick. Get fifty dollars towards the purchase of your mattress.

(01:15:28):
Casper dot com c a spr just like the ghost.
Casper dot Com terms and conditions apply, and I'm telling
you they'll take all of the uncertainty and discomfort out
of your life. Make your wife happy, surpriser, go get
a new mattress. Football seasons about to start. What can
you do? You're gonna be watching a lot of football.

(01:15:49):
Ch've been complaining about needing a new mattress. Say babe, yeah,
I'm watching this game. But you know what your man did.
I went and got a new mattress at Casper. Use
the code OutKick again. That's Casper dot com like the
ghost c a spr dot com. All right, who should
we go to? Who should we go to? Jason Martin
and Carolina? Is Andre loved me or hate me? Andrea

(01:16:12):
and North Carolina? You love me or hate me? Oh man?
Sometimes you put me in the middle. Man, you said,
like my wife Andrea. Yeah, And I mean I love
the show. Don't get me wrong. I love the show.
It's cool, no problem. You know you could be abnoxed
that time. But a man isn't um. But now I
call it because you know, it's it's kind of it's
kind of irritated to hear, like you know in caucases,

(01:16:33):
people calling, They're like, oh man, you know, these protests
really irritate me. Like it's not the fact that it's
like white cops on black cops. I don't think that's
what it. I think we've blown out of proportions. I
think what they're trying to do is bring light to
you know, the adjustice that police do. Do you know? Okay,
So in this particular situation, right, I'm not talking about
the larger global context, right. I try to focus on

(01:16:54):
individual situations, Like I think Michael Bennett is lying, Like
the details the video like his own attorney says it's
not race based, and if he cares, right, Like, I
think most people listening right now genuinely want the world
to be a better place, right. I don't think there's
very many banes out there trying to burn the world down, right, So, uh,
I hope not too so. When I see Michael Bennett

(01:17:15):
and I try to take him at his word, and
he says, you know what, I'm trying to make the
world a better place. I'm trying to fight you know, inequality,
I'm trying to fight for justice, all these things, right,
And then I see him why about being a victim
of a police officer because of his race. All I
see him doing is basically grabbing a Molotov cocktail and
throwing them into a crowded room. But I could dig that.

(01:17:39):
I could dig that, you know, And then you know,
and I'm sorry, like because I really didn't even know
anything about the situation until like over the break I
heard like one of the cast is for h for
the network talking about it, which you know, hey, he's
probably is lying. You know, we'll we'll, we'll go with that,
you know what I'm saying, But like, you know, just
for just people to be irritated by it. You know
what I'm saying, Like it's like you know, just like

(01:17:59):
you like you know, it's like quite proves you know,
say people deny, if people say it doesn't happen, you
know what I'm saying. But like I've been a victim
of policetopped me for no reason, no parent reasons, and
the only thing that they can tell me was that
my car match description so a card I was involved
in a UM. But that might well be that might
well be the case. I mean, I guess what I'm
saying is once you get in your mind that something

(01:18:22):
is happening, then you believe it's happening. All the time.
I get stopped all the time, Like in my town,
thanks for the call, Thanks for the call. When I
get stopped all the time, police pull me over all
the time. Early in the morning, driving through my town,
I get pulled over all the time. They're probably cops
listening to me right now, they know my car. They're like,
why are you speeding on this road again? I'm like, man,

(01:18:44):
it's four am. Ain't nobody on the roads. I'm sober.
I'm trying to get to my studio. And they pull
me over and they look at me and they're like,
why are you speeding? I was like, you know, uh,
you've been been out late. Everybody thinks I'm on right
because four am here in Nashville. They think I had
a late night and they put come up and they're like, hey,

(01:19:07):
late night. I'm like, nope, early morning. Cop shines a
light in my eyes. Ain't drunk. A lot of times
they let me go, but I get pulled over all
the time. I don't blame him for what they do.
They're trying to make the you know, the community safe.
That's their job. And I happen to think, for better
or worse, speed limits should be higher. I drive fast.

(01:19:30):
I'm comfortable with my ability to drive fast. Uh drives
me crazy. What about Maurice and Phoenix? Hey, how you
doing a good morning? Brother? I'm doing well. How are you?
No One? I'm not so that that Michael Barry is
lying so so out well what his own attorney is

(01:19:50):
saying it wasn't he wasn't profiled based on being black,
and that's the entire purpose of his statement. You would agree, Maurice. Maurice,
you would have three that when your own attorney says
that he doesn't agree with your story. That ain't good
for you. Yes, that doesn't mean that all the facts
out either, So that's where can the fact come out?
Number one? To my point, if the facts come out

(01:20:11):
and the facts in, if he's lying the factual food
at this point, the facts do not. Now what I
was gonna say was when it comes to looking enforcement,
this is the narrative that really urged me. Everybody says, yeah,
there's a bad cops, but they stopped there. What are
we doing so actively? What does law enforcement doing to
actively to stop bad cops? We all admit the exist,

(01:20:34):
but no one wants to do anything regarding stopping dead cops. Yeah, see,
I disagree. I think they have internal affairs. They fire
cops all the time. Just like if you're a doctor
and you cut the wrong leg off, eventually you lose
your medical license. Just like if you're a lawyer and
you're a bad lawyer, eventually use you lose your law license.
Lots of people lose the right to be cops every year.

(01:20:55):

that that no one is watching, that they are gonna

(01:23:23):

will tweet out exactly where you can find that, and
so I appreciate all the interest. Uh, certainly they have
noticed that. So we are spending a lot of time
this morning on what I think is a significant story,

(01:24:28):
this Michael Bennett story about him claiming that he was
a racially profiled and he was treated unfairly based on
the color of his skin. He tweeted sorry, he tweeted
out this statement yesterday and I'm gonna read from it
for you for those of you who didn't hear it,
he said he was out there for the Mayweather McGregor fight.

(01:24:50):
After the fight, while heading back to my hotel, several
hundred people heard what sounded like gunshots. Like many of
the people in the area, I ran away from the sound,
looking for safety. Las Vegas police officers singled me out
and pointed their guns at me for doing nothing more
than simply being a black man in the wrong place
at the wrong time. A police officer ordered me to

(01:25:10):
get on the ground. As I laid on the ground,
complying with his companions, he placed his gun near my
head and warned me that if I moved, he would
blow my effing head off. Terrified, and confused, uh. They
put me in handcuffs. The officer's excessive use of force
was unbearable. I felt helpless. All I could think was
I'm gonna die for no other reason than I am black.

(01:25:31):
In my skin color is somehow a threat. My life
flashed before my eyes as I thought of his kids.
I kept asking the officers what did I do, reminding
them they had rights. The officers ignored my please and
told me to shut up, and then took me at
the back of a nearby police car, where I set
for what felt like an eternity, until they apparently realized

(01:25:51):
I was not a thug, common criminal, or ordinary black man,
but Michael Bennett, a famous professional football player. I've always
held the strong conviction that protesting is just the right
thing to do without question. This is why I sit
before the national anthem. Equality doesn't live in this country.
No matter how much money you make, what job title

(01:26:11):
you have, or how much you give, when you are
seen as a expletive, you will be treated that way.
The system failed me. I can only imagine what Eric Garner,
Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, and Charlena lies Les felt.
All of this is a lie. All of this that
Michael Bennett put out their Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman has

(01:26:35):
been proven systematically to be a lie. He says he
was profiled based on nothing more than the color of
his skin. His own attorney says that's not true. If
you watch the video of police officers responding to a
report of shots fired with their weapons drawn, the entire
casino is full of black people. They did not arrest

(01:26:58):
any of them or detain any of them. Do you
know why, because they weren't behaving in a suspicious manner.
Michael Bennett on the video is seen hiding from police officers, crouching,
and then suddenly he jumps up and he sprints away
and they say stop, stop. He refuses to stop. He
jumps over a wall and keeps running and makes the

(01:27:20):
officers pursue him and tackle him. They thought that he
was behaving in a suspicious manner, which he was, and
they did their job. They put handcuffs on him, they
put him in the back of the car. They thought
he might be a shooter, and they later determined after
ten minutes he was there for ten minutes detained. He

(01:27:40):
wasn't arrested they kept him for ten minutes, they ran
a check, they determined that he was not a threat,
and they released him. According to the Las Vegas police officers,
they specifically set with him and explained exactly what they
had done and why they had done it. And then
Michael Bennett comes out with this statement completely full of wise.

(01:28:03):
When your own attorney says your race had nothing to
do with this story, you ain't in a good place.
When your own attorney won't even accept your argument. You
have tried to sell people a bill of goods. Yet
what has happened Virtually Nowhere have you seen anyone pointing

(01:28:26):
out that Michael Bennett and his statement are full of lies.
Hardly anybody in sports media has addressed it. Hardly anybody
in sports media has covered his attorney saying that his
race had nothing to do with this story. If you
are Michael Bennett and you are ostensibly worried about the

(01:28:47):
treatment of minorities by police officers, you are worried about
the fact that equality does not exist in this country,
you have made things worse, not better with your wise,
with your statement about your race being the reason for
your detention had nothing to do with your race, had

(01:29:10):
everything to do with the way you were behaving and
the fact that you did not comply with police request
to stop running. Michael Bennett put out a false statement.
Most people in the sports media and the media at
large lapped it all up. And as the videos continue
to be released by the Las Vegas Police Department, you

(01:29:31):
are seeing over and over again that they did nothing
wrong and that Michael Bennett, in my opinion, is a liar.
And I asked you the question on Twitter, do you
believe Michael Bennett or the Las Vegas Police. Seventy six
percent of you believe the Las Vegas Police. Over five
thousand of you have voted in this poll so far.

(01:29:54):
You can go find me on Twitter at Clay Travis
and cast your vote. All Right, I'm gonna make you
some money now. Michael bennetts an idiot, and I think
he's a liar, and I think he deserves to be
called for it. It's probably the only show you're gonna
hear doing it. But I'm gonna put Michael Bennett off
on the side for now, and we're gonna get my

by my buddy Todd Ferman out in Las Vegas. He
is with us now and it is officially the start
of the NFL season. Todd, How which is your life
change when football returns From a gambling perspective, this is

(01:32:04):
everything right when the calendar hits August one, that's kind
of when I put my social life on hold for
the next six months, realizing you live and breathe not
only college football but the NFL. I mean, if you're
a sports better, this is the time of year you
put your nose to the grindstone and try and take
full advantage of those two primary betting markets. Okay, so
the NFL starts tonight. We've got the Patriots going up

(01:32:26):
against the Chiefs. The Patriots are a massive favorite. Uh,
what do you see in this one? I think when
you look at Kansas City Clay, this is a team
that professional betters are going to look to sell more
often than not this season. Uh, they're win to open
its highs nine and a half In some spots the
price trended down to nine. And when you assess their
skill positions, we know they're banged up at running back.

(01:32:48):
They're going to start a rookie at that position. Wide receiver,
they don't have anybody over the age of twenty five
years old, and Alex Smith kind of a ticking time bomb,
so to speak. Until we see Andy Reid go to
Patrick Mahomes and a new air under center, we can
go on the other side. I think it's gonna take
a little while for all these moving pieces to gel offensively.
But hard to argue with New England and their prospects

(01:33:08):
to win another Super Bowl. There's a reason they're listed
at prices of three to one or left. And when
you look at the number tonight, this is a layout
order don't play a type scenario for me. I can
see the Patriots starting slow, but I'd want no part
of taking the Chiefs plus nine bunch of fascinating lines
in the NFL. We'll get to college football here in
a little bit, But maybe the most depressing is if
you are a Jets fan. God bless you, because the

(01:33:32):
Bills are nearly a nine point favorite over the Jets,
and the Bills don't exactly strike fear into a lot
of people's lives out there right now, especially because we're
just now finding out who the quarterback is going to
be for the Bills. Are the Jets one of the
worst teams in NFL history, They're gonna give a lot
of teams to run for their money in that regard,
and when you fast forward to a potential show down,

(01:33:54):
I don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves
Week seventeen against the Patriots, that could be one of
the largest lines we see should the Patriots not have
the division sewn up and are looking to try and
secure home field advantage, or in a scenario where they
might be fifteen and o during the regular season, the
Jets are going to be at Bane in the sports books.
Existence you look at Cleveland last year, it was hard

(01:34:14):
to get money. But even the Browns win total was
set at four four and a half, the Jets at
three and a half right now, and as you allude to,
when you're a all nearly a double digit dog and
you don't know who Buffalo starting quarterback is gonna be,
that's problematic. I will say one thing, Clay, if folks
out there participating in survivor pools, the Bill should be
your choice week one if you're not gonna have a
chance to use them probably the rest of the season. Yeah,

(01:34:37):
poor Bills fans too, all right, Um, Ezekiel Elliott his suspension,
whether he's gonna play or not play. I think one
of the most fascinating things from a Vegas perspective is,
you guys the oddsmakers say, Ezekiel Elliott doesn't make that
much of a difference when it comes to the Cowboys offense.
In fact, the average fan is probably drastically overrating his

(01:34:57):
impact on the game. Why and how much of an
impact does he actually have? From a line perspective, it's
kind of the general sentiment. Most skill position players at
most are gonna be worth one to one and a
half point on the high end, and even with Zeke
in this particular spot, you saw the number get as
low as Dallas minus three did have to lay a
price right around the full field goal or sit at

(01:35:17):
three and a half. We find out that Elliott will
be in the starting lineup on Sunday night, number comes
back out at four. At a lot of sports books,
the total really remains unchanged. Forty seven forty seven and
a half more or less the consensus out there. The
thing for running backs, they're interchangeable pieces. I know the
analysts are gonna say the offense won't look quite the same,
and I kind of agree with that, But from a

(01:35:38):
point spread perspective, at least week to week, uh, it
changes the way you want to view the Dallas Cowboys
very little. But Clay over the course of the full
six games, not having Zeke for that long a stretch,
should the suspension hold up, I think you're looking at
Dallas changing their outlook, maybe by a full game potentially
Seahawks Packers Obviously, both of these teams have had a

(01:35:59):
great all of success. Russell Wilson taking his crew on
the road against Aaron Rodgers line is around green Bay
minus three. How do you assess a game like this?
For me, the side feels like a coin flip. You're
looking at green Bay, as you mentioned, a field goal
favored largely accounted built into the home field advantage that
we'll see at Lambeau. These two teams played a season ago,

(01:36:19):
and Lambeau in Green Bay was pretty much able to
do whatever they wanted when they wanted offensively. Total here
opened at forty nine, trending tofte and when you consider
that it's more or less the standalone time slot on
Sunday afternoon, you know Colts rams not gonna attract the
same betting action Panthers. Forty nine is not quite the same.
If you like this game and you want to root

(01:36:40):
for offense, I'd encourage folks to get out ahead of things.
Assuming the weather holds off in green Bay, bet the
game over. The total now would not be shocked if
this thing closed higher at fifty two and a half
fifty three. And for me personally, if I can get
three and a half with Seattle, that will wet my appetite.
But at a field goal where the number sits right now,
not enough to get me to the window. I'm most excited,
not surprisingly because I'm a season ticket holder and I'm

(01:37:03):
gonna be at this game to see the Raiders play.
The Titans got Derek Carr coming back off of his
broken leg, Marcus Mariotta coming off of his broken leg.
Titans are around a two and a half point favorite
in this one. What do you see is that Raiders
defense maybe the shakiest element here. The Titans secondary is
also shaky. How do you assess this one? Well, I'm

(01:37:23):
trying to figure out how Oakland this will be the
third straight year they make the trip out to Now, Yeah,
it is crazy. The franchise may have and in with
the league office and want to get to Music City
at least once during the course of the season. Can't
really blame him in that regard. And you talk about
Oakland's defense, clearly the run stopping unit would be caused
for concern. And that's why you've seen this number. Clay
go from Oakland a one and a half point favorite

(01:37:44):
during the summer months to the Titans now a two
and a half point favorite a lot of locations even
a full field goal in some spots, and that's not recreational.
Bettors backing Marcus Mariota in company that's very real professional money.
My fear here is a number trends towards three. Have
the Titans officially all of that secondary issue playing against
an Oakland team that's gonna have Michael Crabtree out there,

(01:38:04):
It's gonna have a Marii Cooper. Uh And while we
worry about Oakland's ability to consistently run the football, this
should be one of the more high flying passing attacks.
That being said, I'm fully on board with this move.
I think Tennessee can control the clock, play a little
dink and dunk, and take full advantage of some of
the weapons they have offensively. If you like Tennessee, bet
them now because this thing will close three on game day.
All right? So what else is out there in the

(01:38:26):
NFL market that I should know about or that you like?
Four Week one, I think when we look at Philadelphia
and Washington, the Redskins open is a field goal favorite
this summer during at bet online dot a g number
now Philadelphia minus one. I think it's going to continue
in that direction. Uh So, if you like Philadelphia, clearly
a situation where you have professional money on one side

(01:38:46):
and you have recreational betters. On the other another trend
to keep in mind, and unfortunately I don't have the
exact numbers in front. Over the last handful of years,
if you bet teams that missed the playoffs week one
against teams that were playoff teams this season ago, you've
been able to turn a pretty healthy profit. So different
teams that would fall into that subset this week that
are what I call the ugly ducklings. The Bears a

(01:39:08):
seven point home underdog against the Atlanta Falcons, the Cleveland
Browns catching eight against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and I would
tell people Clay, even without Andrew Luck in the mix
for the Colts, I'm still not sure that i'd want
to lay over a field goal with the Rams, as
this number has gone from l a plus three during
the summer now to a four point favorite a touchdown adjustment.
I actually adjust about nine nine and a half points

(01:39:30):
for lux abs lux absence. All right, let's shift gears
to college football. And first of all, everybody knows who
listens to this show that I hate to brag, but
I went twelve and three against the number with my
picks last weekend. Was this impressive to you turning over
a new leaf, and we're gonna go with modesty for
two thou seventeen. Yeah, you know, I'm not a guy
who draws attention to himself, not a guy who likes
to create a stir, more of a kind of a

(01:39:52):
shrinking violet, you know, just a guy who like a wallflower,
if you will, just really not you know, kind of
look at me kind of guy. So you know, I
just think that importantly. You know, let my my actions
speak louder than my words. Always been my theory at
twelve and three. I don't care who you are. If
you're gonna try and put you together that record for
one week of college football, it bears putting folks on notice.
I do always worry about regression. I have to hope

(01:40:14):
that you achieved the same closing line value that you
did with the first fifteen picks of the season. But
you built yourself a nice little cushion play nine games
over into Week two. Not bad at all. Okay, there's
a bunch of big games going on for college football
that I want to hit you with, So let's run
through some of these Top twenty five action Let's start.
Let's start with Oklahoma Ohio State because I think that

(01:40:35):
is probably the best game of the weekend. Right now,
Oklahoma State, sorry, Ohio State is around a seven point
favorite over Oklahoma. We saw what happened last year in Norman,
where Ohio State rolled in and dominated them. Seven seems
like kind of a big number, Is that right? How
would you assess where the line should be. I don't

(01:40:55):
think this year's game would get as lopsided as what
we saw last year, when it almost appeared the Sooners
were overwhelmed right from the opening snap. But when you
look at this number, I think what's fascinating to me
is that the general public seas the Oklahoma Sooners and
that high powered offense led by Baker Mayfield, he of
the nineteen variety last weekend against you tep in the
first half, and they go, this is way too many points.

(01:41:15):
We saw Ohio State secondary struggle mightily to try and
slow down Indiana in the first half. The back door
is going to be open the whole time. But I
would tell folks to proceed with caution because this would
fall into what I call a bookmaker line. Books haven't
hung seven and a half because they think Ohio State
is gonna struggle. They really believe that the Buckeys are
going to look like a well oiled machine and offensive juggernaut,

(01:41:36):
similar to the team we saw in the second half
absolutely dismantled Indiana. We saw Dobbins emerge as one of
the best skill position players or at least the guy
to keep tabs on going forward. Out of Ohio States
backfield J. T. Barrett, I think we're gonna see them
open up the playbook a bit more. And when you
play in Columbus at night, the strength of this Ohio
State team is their defensive line. I think they're gonna
get off the snap much faster, makes things easier for

(01:41:58):
that secondary. And this is where I think Baker Mayfield
and missus services of D. D. Westbrook AND'SMJ. P Ryan
Joe mixing as a skill position guy. For me, if
I was going to bet this contest, it would be
laying the points with Ohio State more so than taking
them with Oloma. USC has lost three straight to Stanford.
Stanford has physically dominated them at times, yet USC is

(01:42:19):
nearly a touchdown favorite. I know some of the challenges
that come out in Vegas with trying to set lines
on USC games because there's so many people near l A.
They roll out there. You've told me before that they
will overbet right, that they tend to be a little
bit inflated. Is this at all in play there? To me,
this line just seems too high given that you've got

(01:42:40):
Clay Hilton going up against David Shaw. And I'm pretty
comfortable with David Shaw and what he's achieved over the years,
not to mention the fact that he physically just seems
to have a team that enjoys bludgeoning USC. What's going
on here? I think this game actually comes from the
other side of the prism, and it's deflated more so
than it is in lated as when you refer to USC.

(01:43:02):
This number play during the summer months when Game of
the Year numbers were up at some of the more
prominent sports books out here in Las Vegas had USC
peg as a ten and a half point favorite. Oddly enough,
that's right where bet online dott e a g opened
this number through early betting on Sunday, price got as
low as four before you saw folks come into the
market and start laying the number with USC. Ultimately, with

(01:43:23):
the market stabilizing just under a touchdown, we'll call it
six six and a half. I think people become enamored
with what they saw last and for Stanford it was
a sixty seven victory over Rice and game played down
in Australia USC, we watched them struggle to dispatch of
Western Michigan before ultimately getting out of the Colosseum with
an eight teen point victory. You talk about the history

(01:43:44):
between these two teams, Stanford has definitely had USC's number,
but I have a feeling that USC has had this
game circled obviously much more than their game last week
against Western Michigan. That being said, I want to see
how they perform in the trenches, and if I was
betting this game, much more inclined to go under in
the first half, because if you think Stanford decide they're
gonna have to shorten the game a little bit rely
on their ground and pound and mall USC in the trenches.

(01:44:07):
And that's really been the way these games have gone.
First team to twenty one walks out victorious. Aside from
a couple of years ago, I think under with pointed
a premium, probably the most compelling betting angle for me.
Here we're talking to Todd Ferman. You can follow him
on Twitter at Todd Ferman. All Right, two games that
involved the SEC teams, and the first one is an
a c C versus SEC tilt. We saw the SEC

(01:44:28):
go three and oh in these games last weekend. Uh
And now Auburn is traveling to Death Valley and Clemson.
The line right around Clemson four and a half five points.
It's moved a decent amount Clemson young football team. Jared
Stidham for Auburn has not played very many games obviously
in gust malls On system. How do you peg this

(01:44:49):
one and stid him and look pretty pedestrian. In the
season opener last weekend against Georgia, Southern folks who pay
much more attention to quarterback back play said there were
warning signs that they're very interested to see how Burn
looks this week against an elite defensive line. Clemson, on
the other hand, Clay all of a sudden, this is
a team that was an afterthought despite being defending national champs.
Widely available at thirty to one to win the national title,

(01:45:11):
that price has gone down to twenty one off the
dominating performance against Kent clearly the road to an a
CEC title. Maybe a little bit easier with Florida State
losing DeAndre Francois, But I want to try and see
how this Clemson offense looks against a living, breathing defense.
The number more or less in no man's land four
and a half to five and a half. So I'm
curious to see where this price falls. You've seen very

(01:45:33):
real money coming on the under. I think both of
these coaches are going to lean on their defenses early,
hoping that they can avoid the big mistake. And for me,
if I was forced to bet aside a very heavy
lean talk towards Auburn just based on the experience level,
but wouldn't be shocked a lease if Clemson wins, Auburn
covers and what will be a lower scoring game, not
quite as low scoring as a season ago, a game

(01:45:54):
that we saw Clemson win nineteen thirteen and pretty ugly fashion.
Georgia Notre Dame Georgia Jacob Eeson, they're all everything quarterback
last year true freshman is now out. Jacob from uh
is now in as their quarterback. Notre Dame. Brian Kelly's
team fell off the reservation last year. Nobody even paid
attention to them. When I saw this number come out.

(01:46:15):
I I was, I was, I'm gonna be honest with you,
I was stunned. Uh. Notre Dame came out nearly a
touchdown favorite. The line has come back down a little
bit now around four and a half. What do you
see in this one? Put me in the same boat. Um,
I actually made this game three and a half, and
so when I saw six and a half come out
and had the opportunity to buy the game to seven,
knowing that number wasn't going to be available later in
the week, I think oddsmakers were in a bit of

(01:46:37):
a quandary trying to figure out what the downgrade was
from Easton to from UH. And for me personally, I
don't see much, if any at all. We know Georgia
is going to go on the road in a hostile territory,
try and establish Sony Michelle and Nick Chubb Lena on
a very talented defense against a Notre Dame offense that
look great against Temple, and while they are big thing
expected of whin Bush, who knows how they'll perform against

(01:46:59):
an sec DE caliber defense. I'm surprised, Clay when you
look at this total that got as low as fifty
one and a half that it's surged out the fifty
seven and a half because I think you're gonna see
both of these teams lean on their ground game, not
looking to try and make the big mistake with this
number at four, probably right where it needs to be.
And personally, for me, if the number dropped any further
and got down to a field goal, I've probably looked

(01:47:19):
to lay with Notre Dame and play in my middle,
knowing that I had Georgia plus seven in my back pocket.
All right, last question for you, and we're talking to
Todd Farm and he's gonna join us every single Thursday,
getting him up early out in the desert in Las
Vegas to talk about all these games. Is there a
game college football wise that maybe a lot of people
aren't paying attention to that for you is fascinating from
an oddsmaker perspective, or that you completely love. We'll kind

(01:47:42):
of tip our hand a little bit for a game
that I discussed in a little more detail as part
of our OutKick top to our bet the board top
ten that will be available on OutKick later today. Yeah,
it's gonna go up this morning as soon as the
show ends. We'll have Todd's writing an article every week
for OutKick where he gives the Vegas top ten and
uh and also gives out one pick yep to to
Lane and Navy. I'm gonna put the Lane and Navy.

(01:48:03):
Everybody out there who's all in an Annapolis and New
Orleans on this game. I'm gonna put the midshipment on
upset alert. This is a two lane team under Willie
Fritz's leadership that has spent all off season preparing for
this particular contest. I like what I saw to the
Green Wave to get their feet wet a week ago
against Grambling. And I know Grambling not a college football
powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination. But when you

(01:48:25):
have two teams often too who mirror each other in
regards to the way they want to run the football
first and foremost through the option, I think fourteen is
an absolute ton in a game that I think would
be a little bit lower scoring than the forty seven
and a half indicates, uh, thirteen widely available. I think
the Green Wave are going to have an excellent chance
to try and win this game outright. Uh, So give
me the boys from New Orleans heading up the coast

(01:48:46):
to Anapolis where it could be a bit sloppy. Taking
those generous points well, I said, last question for you.
I'm gonna bring in Eddie Garcia here momentarily for for
an update. But we talked a lot about the hurricane.
How much do you pay attention to weather? Like? I
get that question a lot and people are you constantly
looking at weather, especially in a situation like this where
it doesn't look like it's going to directly impact any games?

(01:49:07):
But how much do you have, like weather dot Com
pulled up looking when you think about especially over unders
everything else, you definitely have to factor that in certain
styles are going to translate a little bit better to
working as effectively in dry conditions as it does in
the wet You mentioned totals. I would tell people that
want to bet either the NC State Marshall game or
I know you're invested in North Carolina Louisville, to keep

(01:49:27):
tabs on what that forecast will be in the Carolina
is because if you're laying double digits and weather isn't
going to be optimal, it becomes the great equalizer and
makes underdogs more attractive. We saw the perfect example a
week ago though Memphis Louisiana Monroe and the opening Thursday
night of the season. That total sixty nine, if it
was played in optimal conditions, got as low as sixty
one and a half inevitably falls in the middle. I
tell people, if you want to bet the weather total,

(01:49:49):
don't take the worst of the number. If it's adjusted
by a full touchdown, You're not going to get leverage
over the sports book because for every example you have
a NC State Notre Dame type game like we saw
a season ago, you will have a game that falls
in the middle. Also, do pay attention, know the styles,
know how things are gonna work, and make sure you
factored everything into that equation before you walk to the window.
Outstanding stuff is always Todd Ferman will join us every

(01:50:09):
single Thursday in this hour. My thanks, my man. His
Vegas Top ten will be up in about twenty minutes.
As soon as the show is over, I'll go publish it.
Let's bring up Eddie Garcia. Eddie heard the reports there
about how to handle hurricanes when it comes to kind
of setting out games. What to you is happening right

(01:50:30):
now with Hurricane Irma. Well, we'll check out where it's
been and where it's headed, but it's still a category
five hurricanes, still wins of a hundred eighty miles per hour.
It's moving past Puerto Rico, left a million people power
there and it's now headed near the Dominican Republic and
the Bahamas. IRMA is expected to make landfall in Florida
late Saturday early Sunday. USA Today report at least ten

(01:50:53):
people have died and authorities are struggling to get aid
to those small Caribbean islands that were devastated by IRMA.
Bar Buddha They're Prime Minister called the island barely habitable,
and local officials in St. Martin said that island is destroyed.
As for the US, people have been evacuated from the
Florida Keys. That was a mandatory evacuation, and evacuations are

(01:51:13):
underweig in parts of Broward County, Dade County, and Monroe County.
So again it's coming and people are trying to prepare,
but uh, it does look like it's certainly gonna be
a very devastating storm. Asked for how it's affecting the
sports world. We were talking about yesterday that Dolphins Buccaneer
season opener, where they going to move it to a
neutral site where they're gonna move it to a different date. Well,
the NFL has decided to move it to November the nineteenth.

(01:51:36):
It will still be in Miami, but that'll be week
eleven of the NFL season. Of course, the NFL season
starts tonight with the Patriots and the Chiefs looking ahead
to Sunday. Odell Beckham Jr. The Giants. Uh not sure
if he's gonna be able to play or not in
that Sunday night game against the Cowboys. He wasn't practice
on Wednesday for the first time since suffering that spring
ankle in the preseason game. But he didn't really practice.

(01:51:57):
He did some joggias and stretching Roda Station neary Bike.
But his status for that game against the Cowboys definitely
up in the air and real quick. In baseball, Clay Uh,
the Domonbacks won their franchise record three game in a row.
They beat the Dodgers three to one. L A is
now dropped eleven of its last twelve games. Good stuff,
my man. Uh, that's Eddie Garcia. We're coming to you
live from the Geico Fox Sports Radio studio. Is easy

(01:52:19):
to say fift cent or more on car insurance with Geico.
Go to Geico dot com or call eight hundred nine
four seven Auto. The only hard part figuring out which
way is easier. And speaking of figuring out which way
is easier, we're gonna finish off the show with our
final segment. Next, maybe a little animal thunderdome for you.
I think it's probably a good chance of that. Next
on Fox Sports Radio, Great news, quick way you could

(01:52:41):
save money, Switch to Geico. Go to Geico dot com
and in fifteen minutes you could say fifteen percent or
more on car insurance. Want to remind you, guys, Jason
Martin will be reviewing all of them. Call eight five
five five hundred Clay for our voicemail segment tomorrow. At
this time, if you were listening to this show, will

(01:53:01):
have the I hate Cha Klay Travis voicemails or or
you can always react to basically anything that's going on.
So if you are now watching a college football or
an NFL game and something crazy happens, or you're upset
at me because whatever opinion I gave you on a
game is wrong, or maybe maybe you just think that
I'm a genius and the greatest man on Earth. You

(01:53:23):
have the right to call in and give us some feedback.
Eight five five hundred, Clay, I never hear them, Jason Martin.
You listen to all of them, and the guys and
girls out there and the crew are doing a good job. Actually,
have we had a single female caller on? I hate
chick Lay Travis on the voicemail line, Yet now I

(01:53:44):
heard a voice. Well, you know what, there's one person.
I'm not sure if it's a man or a woman
based on the voice, but other than that, there's not
one that I can just absolutely say with certainty is
a female. Okay? So eight five five hundred, Clay, maybe
maybe a woman can make a play and a really
called the voicemail line just an idea, trying to be open,

(01:54:05):
allow everybody to uh to get hooked up out here,
but call Clay. Um. We've been talking a lot about
Michael Bennett. I think he's lying. I think the evidence
all demonstrates that he's lying about being isolated, singled out
because he's black. I would encourage you to go listen
to this show, download the podcast, share it with your friends.

(01:54:25):
Most honest show and all of sports media the only
one that will not come to you every day with
an agenda already in place. We look at the facts,
try to figure out what's going on. And in this case,
I think Michael Bennett's a line. I don't think he
was singled out because he was black. I have the
same opinion as his own attorney that in this situation,
he behaves suspiciously and the police responding to a report

(01:54:49):
of a shooter had their guns drawn and we're looking
for somebody behaving suspiciously. He was not singled out because
he was black. If that were the case, it would
be an amazing move, because every single p person just
about in the video that it surrounds that casino is black.
He was singled out because he behaves suspiciously. Go back
and listen to that. We spent a lot of time
on that, took a lot of calls, great calls from

(01:55:10):
cops all over the country about situations such as these.
All Right, do we have any good animal Thunderdome News
Jason Martin, Yeah, I've got a couple of stories, plus
an update on the Bengal tiger from Mr. All Right.
This is big time. All Right, let's hit the music,

(01:55:32):
ladies and gentlemen. I'm just glad. I was scared. Boys
and goods. I thought he thought. I was like this
enormous piece of chicken dium times. I sta this is
animal thunder dog. Yesterday we brought the news about the

(01:55:52):
tiger that was loose in Atlanta that had to be shot,
and we were wondering where in the world did this
tiger come from? And you did the research, Jason Martin,
and now you know where this tiger came from. Indeed,
remember Journey the Docks and that survived its attack with
the Bengal tiger. They're in in uh that area. They're
twenty miles south of Atlanta. Yesterday, Suzie, a six year

(01:56:15):
old Bengal tiger that once performed in the Ringling Brothers
and Barnum and Bailey circus, somehow got loose when a
truck hauling fourteen big cats stop south of Atlanta on
its way from Florida to our state here in Tennessee,
actually Clay that's where this tiger was on the way
to the tiger gonna be done? What were what were
these fourteen tigers going in Tennessee. Susie was headed back

(01:56:36):
to its European owner, an animal handler named Alexander Lacey
after the circus this year, of course, ended its one
forty six year run. That was a story, obviously that
many people read about earlier, so they were actually giving
it back uh to its owner, and Payne said that
these animals have been raised around people their entire lives,
so they're comfortable, which explains why it was just jumping

(01:56:57):
fences and all of that. But of course it had
to be confronted when it started attacking pets and potentially
threatened children at bus stops that we're gonna leave about
an hour late. It became too aggressive, Georgia Department and
Natural Resources said, when it got that aggressive, there was
just nothing else that they could do. Pain did say
he didn't know how the tiger managed to get free
midway through the trip, didn't have many details of the encounter.

(01:57:20):
The driver of the truck didn't realize one of the
animals had gotten loose until the truck arrived in Tennessee.
So this thing snuck out on him, like while he
was I don't know, using the bathroom and grabbing a
bottled water to a a gas station or something. I can't
think that well, first of all, it should be impossible
to lose the tiger on the interstate. All right, So

(01:57:40):
whoever this driver is, he should be fired. Secondly, this
is like of all the things that you could screw up,
allowing a tiger to get loose when you're driving all
the tigers there and imagine I would love to know
the interaction when this guy shows up in Tennis. See
what you're supposed to have fourteen tigers and they realized

(01:58:03):
they only have third team. Like, that's got to be
an uh oh moment, right, Like, I don't know what.
I don't know what that feels like, but for a
truck driver, that's probably about as low as you can feel.
When you're standing there and you're counting, and how many
times do you think they counted? You know, like it's like, oh,
I was pretty confident. I think I only got third team.
Well let me count again. Uh, let me do one

(01:58:24):
at a time. That's not a good feeling. Well, the
tigers just roaming free in the back of the truck.
Were they all just hanging out? Were they not all
in individual cages or something like that. I guess they
were like this, this tiger can't be that crafty. I mean,
Susie might be really crafty, but I can't imagine crafty
enough to escape. Yeah, you know, I was kind of
figuring that they would just be walking around in the

(01:58:44):
back of the in the back of the truck, but
that can't be true, right, They would be like inside
their own containers, because otherwise they could fight, and like
if you had to stop in a hurry, like all
the tigers would just run into each other, you know,
kind of like like when you stopped short in a car.
So I just can't imagine that they're just walking around.
So they had to be in this this You gotta

(01:59:04):
fire the guy. If you lose the tiger, I'm sorry.
You should lose your trucking license. Should be the rule.
You have a violent, dangerous animal and you somehow lose
one of them, you should lose your trucking license. All right,
what else we got, Well, we've got a couple of
snake stories, because of course we do. A great grandmother
in Thailand called for emergency help when a late night

(01:59:26):
trip to the bathroom at about twelve thirty in the morning.
Oh it just led to a discovery of a thirteen
foot python behind her toilet. She rescuers to happen in
Thailand all the time and everywhere. Yeah, just stay out
of Thailand. And they always seemed to be in the bathroom. Apparently,
she said, I just walked from the couch to the bathroom,
was still sleepy. I just woken up in the night.

(01:59:47):
I feel lucky I saw the snake before sitting fully down,
or it could have grabbed my legs. I screamed for
people in the house to wake up. They called for
the rescue men to come. Emergency responders then contacted snake catchers.
They carried the snake outside and contained it in side
of bag. Officials then said, oh, yes, the snake would
be released back into the wild a safe distance from
homes thirteen feet. Why do we need that thing to

(02:00:08):
be alive? We don't eat snakes period. What else? Uh?
Two pythons fighting it out in Australia to male pythons
on the back deck of someone's house battling for the
attention of another female snake in the area. So again,
guys doing stupid things for women. Even snakes are dumb

(02:00:29):
when it comes to women. You imagine seeing two pythons
on your back, just going off on the patio like
that might still be me moving like if I saw
that happen, no, I would be terrified. All right, good
stuff on the Animal Thunderdome. Great calls today, encourage you
to go download the podcast as we move into the millions.
On the podcast Don't Lose a Tiger Today, only place

(02:00:50):
you'll probably hear Michael Bennett being called out for what
he is. A liar. He isn't telling the truth. Don't
buy the coverage that suggests that he is. He's gonna
be anized by most people. But know what your boy said,
He's a liar, He's not telling the truth. I'm Clay Travis.
This is out kicked. The coverage will be back tomorrow
talking about the Patriots and the Chiefs. The NFL is back. Rejoice.

(02:01:11):
Football has returned.
