Speaker 1 (00:02):
Sports and Johnny Ramos on this NBA trade deadline day
and talk about wheeling and dealing in the National Basketball Association.
Cleveland has quite a different look today. Half of the
Cavaliers are gone. See you later, Syonara, whatever you want

(00:24):
to say the Cleveland Cavaliers, it truly, Jonas, it is half.
If you have a twelve man active roster of the NBA,
three guys won't dress. Six guys dealt today by the
Cleveland Cavaliers on the final day to make trades in
the NBA. Dwayne Wade gone, Jay Crowder gone, Channing Fry gone,

(00:47):
and maybe most importantly and maybe most surprising, Isaiah Thomas gone.
He is now a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Um, listen,
we are going to give credit where credit is due
because it was a bold move. They were very active
and they made our show easier. So from that standpoint,
we do respect it a lot. Um cannot can we

(01:08):
please hear from everybody who ran to microphones around the country,
all the Cleveland Cavalier but really Lebron James Ball washers
who started speaking about Cleveland won that Kyrie Irving trade.
Look at unbelievable, man, could you have a quicker turnaround
in a Yeah, we screwed this whole thing up. We

(01:29):
got totally hosed in this deal. Anybody that we got
back outside of that pick is already gone somewhere else.
Like Jay Crowders. Jay Crowder a year ago was in
Boston on the top team in the Eastern Conference, and
now he's in Utah. So what is happening here? He's
Jay walking out of Come on, what he's doing? He
is walking out of town. Yes, six cavaliers in all

(01:52):
being dealt, including the two key pieces in that Kyrie
Irving deal. As I look at this for the cavalier's sake,
I love everything about what the Cavaliers have done today,
and you have to have realistic expectations with what the
Cavaliers were doing. Sure, we could say the Cavaliers could

(02:13):
have gone out and gotten DeAndre Jordan's or they could
have gotten another big name. But I look at what
the Cavaliers have done, and what a what a magnificent
twenty four hours it has been for Lebron James. They
have gotten rid of one of their locker room cancers
in Isaiah Thomas, who we talked about yesterday. It just
won't shut up and talking about the issues that they

(02:34):
have and how they're not his fault. They got rid of,
as you mentioned, an ineffective Jake Crowder. They got rid
of Channing Fry, Duane Wade, Amman Schumper, and Derrick Rose,
all guys, by the way, who are dead wood. They
won't give you energy off to each They're just veteran
guys who want the ball in their hands and can score.
And that's really all that you've got. You're not gonna

(02:55):
bring in Dwyane Wade to have him dive on the
floor for loose balls or bring energy on defense. If
you come off the bench try to lock down an
opposing team star player, you're not gonna get that. You're
not gonna get that with any of the guys that
they dealt away with. And so when you looked at
the makeup of the Cavaliers, it just wasn't conducive to
winning a championship. Now, the moves they made today may

(03:17):
not accomplish a championship or may not form a championship team,
but at least you've brought new energy. You've actually gotten younger,
you have gotten. You brought in guys like a Larry
Nance Jr. In the deal with the Lakers that maybe
can provide a spark off the bench, maybe more so
than what Jake Crowder has done. Jordan Clarkson Rodney Hood
I like having his best year in Utah. They did

(03:39):
get George Hill in the trade from Sacramento. See a
lot of names going on. I just like what Cleveland
has done, most importantly Jonas, because they didn't give up
their early pick that they got from Brooklyn next year.
They didn't really salvage anything of next year except their
own first round pick, which could be late to try
to win something this year. And I think that that's
what was so important in Cleveland for the Cavaliers as

(04:00):
a whole, is to not salvage the future just to
appease Lebron James for the next three months, right, And
I give him credit for that because we've been talking
about it for a while now. At some point you
gotta take your roster back, like like we all get
that it's most likely Lebron James is not going to
be back. So if he's not going to be back,
and you want to at least give an effort in
trying to make some sort of a run or chasing

(04:21):
down whatever you think you can win this year by
still retaining Lebron James because he won't wave his no
trade clause. Then you did the best you possibly could.
And I give him credit for this. Remember when Tampa
Bay the Buccaneers released Roberto Oguayo in the in the
off season, and everyone immediately ran out and said, oh
my god, easily goes down as one of the worst

(04:44):
draft picks of all time. You trade it up in
the draft to take a kicker, And then by year
two he was already cut. And I was thinking to myself,
you know what, I actually give him a lot of
credit because there's a lot of organizations that would have
been stubborn and would have said, no, no, no, no, no,
we're gonna give this guy the benefit of the doubt.
We're gonna give him chance after chance after chance. He
would have kept missing kicks, latent games, he would have
kept costing you ws, and he would have kept costing

(05:06):
people jobs on that roster. And instead they said, listen,
nice guy and all it isn't working, wash our hands
on it, move on, take your l and let's keep
building this roster. So Cleveland did, like they totally They
got hosed in that trade with Boston, and they realized
whatever they thought they were getting back, they were dead wrong.

(05:26):
And by the time the tread trade deadline came around
a few months later, they had moved on from all
those players. I give them credit, man, because a lot
of organizations would just sit there and deal with it
and say no, no, let's hold out. Let's hold out,
because they'd have too much pride connected and too much
of their reputation connected to this. They didn't do that.
They said, screw it, we made a mistake. Similar Pete

(05:47):
Carroll in Seattle when they signed um Matt Flynn to
that big contract. They could have been loyal to Matt
Flynn and said no, no, no, no no, no, we gave
him the money. We're gonna let this guy played out.
You know what. They said, All right, why don't we
just acknowledge that we overpaid for that guy. But the
guy we drafted, Russell Wilson, he's the better quarterback. Like
it's it takes a lot for organizations to check their

(06:08):
egos sometimes. I give the crafts Calves credit for doing
it this time. When you looked at what the Cavaliers,
the bed that they made themselves for this season. I
felt leading up to today Jonas that they were just
going to have to sleep in it and deal with
it and figure out a way. And in the Eastern Conference,
when Porzingis went out with his knee injury, Charlotte really
isn't in the thick of things. You've got nine teams

(06:29):
for eight spots. So the Cavaliers are going to make
the playoffs. I don't think they're gonna fall out of
the top eight in the Eastern Conference. They may fall
down seating wise, but I don't think they're gonna lose
enough where you would fall out of the playoff picture entirely.
So going into that knowing that you're gonna have to
make a playoff run, and maybe with a team that
isn't as strong, I just felt that Cleveland was kind

(06:50):
of stuck where they were because you couldn't you couldn't
give up that Brooklyn pick if you wanted a DeAndre
Jordan or if you wanted a Kemba Walker. But what
is amazing to me and why this is just such
an amazing day for the Calves and really an amazing
day for Lebron James, is that they were able to
do this by keeping everything next year intact and get

(07:11):
rid of guys that I had no idea had any
trade value whatsoever. I didn't know that Dwyane Wade in
Miami would want to rekindle their relationship. It's a protected
second round pick. There's not really much to it, but
Dwayne Wade goes back to Miami. I didn't realize that
Derrick Rose and Jake Crowder actually had trade value. I
didn't think that there would be anything of value, considering

(07:32):
Derrick Rose apparently was thinking about retirement at one point
during this season, Channing Frye and Isaiah Thomas, and Isaiah
Thomas being the cancer that he is. I just didn't
think that any team would want to take on those guys.
But lo and behold, the Lakers come in and now
for Lebron James hits a game winner and over time
against the Timberwolves, sees his team ship out the guy

(07:55):
that has just been a headache ever since he came
aboard and now maybe finds his future death the nation
as a place that has cap room one of twenty
four hours for Lebron James. Really, so you're you're telling
me that the Lakers won't be resigning Isaiah Thomas. H
I don't know that's gonna happen. And as anybody ever butchered,

(08:17):
they're paid ay more than Isaiah. What what is amazing
to His agent came out and said, well, you know,
Isaiah Thomas, he's looking to have the ball more in
his hands. And in Cleveland Lebron was so ball dominant.
How dare Lebron do that? That's God? Tyler is like,
we gotta get the ball out of our best players hands.
This is this is what we have got to do.

(08:37):
Like what in the world were you thinking when you
went into Cleveland that Lebron James wouldn't be handling the basketball.
By the way, it got so bad for their point
guard play that Jose called Auran was starting games for
them when Derrick Rose without was out and Thomas wasn't
back from his hip injury. So you can figure out
your role however you want it to be. But what
what a twenty four hours for Lebron James. So let

(08:59):
me but let me ask you this now, So who's
the number two in Cleveland right now? Because so Kevin
Love is out, he's injured. We don't know what sort
of shape he's going to be and when he gets back,
we don't. I mean, you know, injuries with that guy
are starting to pile up a little bit. So who's
the number two in Cleveland? I think it's gonna be
rodney Hood for the time being. Yet I keep hearing

(09:21):
people say, man, those calves got better today. All right,
Well they got better. They got better by some tracks. Yeah, no,
I get it. You can you get rid of the
attitudes in the locker room, you get rid of I mean,
Isaiah Thomas was a disaster, so you get ridden. I
actually feel bad for Jay Crowder because I don't think
this had anything to do with Jay crowd Or. He
just came with Isaiah Thomas, so it's like, oh, there's
the a holes again. No, he's an a hole. I'm

(09:43):
just happy to be with him. You know. It's like,
if people I hate this show, it's gonna be because
of me. You just happened to be alongside me, Dan,
did you did you you're you're you're not that you're
you're you're a great friend. Did you? Just like, by
the way, on my birthday, Jonas always has um is
your dogs born on we show the same birthday and
my dead dog and Jonas always, you know, takes time

(10:03):
out to wish me happy birthday, and it's very kind
of you. The Cavaliers did that yesterday for Isaiah Thomas.
They had to take it down because of all the
comments that were made by Isaiah, like they were like,
happy birthday, Isaiah Thomas, and then the comments started flooding
in and foundly, all right, we may want to delete that,
take that tweet down just because of everything that ended
up coming with it. By the way, how about I mean,

(10:27):
I really think that that part of the reason that
Isaiah Thomas got dealt is because Paul Pierce. Paul Pierce
called him out on having his his video tribute in
Boston on the day he was going to get his
jersey retired this this upcoming weekend, and Paul Pierce said, yeah, listen,
I don't think this is a good idea. And I
think the Calves abided by what Paul Pierce said, and
they said, all right, listen, we don't want to cause

(10:48):
any problems. Let's send him over to that l way
and good luck getting a Lakers good luck getting a
Lakers player video tribute in the in Boston. Now, okay,
so there it goes. So Isaiah Thomas poured me. Isaiah Thomas,
he played the victim on this, and you can keep
crying and complaining. We'll we'll say that for later. I
could do a whole hour on Isaiah Thomas. Today's show

(11:09):
is brought to you by True Car. Car Shoppy can't

buying experience. Quickly, Dan, how many players that were dealt

(11:29):
so far today? Did you forget we're still in the NBA?
Because I'm at like four, I'm at like four that
I forgot we're still in the NBA. Yeah, I would
say probably at least two or three. Yeah, you wonder
how bored I was last night? I looked up but
I don't even know why I looked this up. You remember,
you would remember this Milwaukee Bucks draft pick, Joe Alexander

(11:49):
out of West Virginia. Remember overall? Yeah, by the way,
still playing ball in Maccabi TELEVI. Oh so, anybody needs
any updates on the Maccabi Televi roster, you come here.
I'm a Maccabi tel Aviv insider. I covered Devin Harrison

that the same Devin? Yeah? Sure, sure years later? All right,

(14:24):
You can hear them when you're in Atlanta on ninety
two point nine the Game, joining us again on the
Dug Gottlieb Show. Rick Kamela, Hey, Rick, happy at trade
deadline day? What's going on? Yeah? Great man, the deadline
just passed. When they get some of them sort of
rate and three clickle trade to us. And uh, Tyler
Gevans is a big name right now. That's kind of

(14:45):
hanging in the breege. You know, two teams want to
give up a first one pick for him. It appears
they don't. Appears Jordan is going nowhere. Very interesting day obviously,
uh in Um. I think the Caps are big winners.
Uh and and we can beat I brought this call,
but I've been very intread done. Going back to my ming,
it's done. A lot of cool stuff happening today. So Rick,

(15:08):
how close? And I don't know if there's if there's
a scale you can use on this, but was this
almost like a fire sale in Cleveland to a certain extent,
because I mean this is almost a completely new roster
now in the matter of it seemed like it happened
in twenty thirty minutes. I mean, how close was this
to just them saying screw it, this year is finished?

(15:29):
You know what? I think it's It's not a fire
sale in terms of tanking. I think it's a fire
sale in terms of philosophy and in terms of admission
that we screwed up that Kyrie oving for it was
a debacle in a disaster, bringing into my weight a
disaster close a disaster, And to me it was it
was streaming the fact. To me it was house cleaning.

(15:49):
Um ship was gone. Nah Thomas, who I vote from
a very very good source. Labarn doesn't like Isaiah Thomas. Okay,
So it's not just court chemistry. There's off the court
chemistry issues with the Lebron James and I was gonna
purnis uh and something that he had to do, and
as they have pon him after the least to Orlando

(16:10):
the other night, he didn't slow Tyler on Lou under
the bus. He'd have the nuclear bomb on Tylis saying
we've got trouble adjusting to other coaches all year, all year. Really, dude,
you don't even been playing all year. So I think
get the philosophical ship. Think about the ramp up in
athleticism that Cleveland gets um when you bring in George Hill,

(16:32):
when you bring in Jordan Clarkson, Uh, the bouncy and
superactive Larry Man's jr. Um. I love Rodney Hood. I
mean I'm a big, big fan. Utah, I don't think
ever utilized him correctly. He was defense and the started
line up. Dad, I'm on a yo yo um and
you know, hopefully he can find a role with Cleveland.
But because I yoo, they got more forstal and I
think you got better on the defensive end. They got

(16:53):
way more athletic um and and I like the luke
of the guests. We try to see your point. These
moves didn't make them better than the Golden State Warriors.
And they got but they didn't get better enough. Rick
Cambell joining us here on Fox Sports Radio. He is
Jonas Knox. I'm Dan Buyer. We're talking NBA trade deadline,
more on this Calves deal. Who were you most surprised

(17:14):
that they got rid of? Taking everything in the consideration?
And Rick and I'm talking about uh play left in him.
I'm talking about trade value. Who was the most surprising
Cavaliers that you saw jettison today? Again, none of the
you know, the changes that they made, None of those
moves surprise me, don't work. That surprised me is Dwayne

(17:35):
Wade being shipped out? Because why couldn't even if you're
going to, you know, make this philosophical change to go younger,
more athletic, Um, why couldn't Wade hang around? You know?
Maybe it's knowing and Hood and all these guys and
maybe on the backwards too crowded and there's not minis
fordwing Wade. Uh. That surprised me a little bit only

(17:59):
because of the great relationship that Lebron James and Twayne
Wade ha uh and Koby Alton, the general manager of
the Catch, did check with Lebron and did sort of
explain himself to Leon before going and making that move
and uh, you know, I'm just getting Lebron James gave
cold give Kobe Alton his blessing to make that move
and not we make goes back home to Miami. Obviously,

(18:19):
were it all the games? W we won three championships.
The pieces kind of, but it was a little peculiar
to see the James and Wade get broken up. Rick Hamley,
You're an NFL fan, so you you can sort of
understand the parallel here. I was thinking about Isaiah Thomas
and it reminds me of Brandon Marshall, the wide receiver.
Really talented guy, puts up big numbers wherever he's at,

(18:40):
but he's been traded like four times. It's the same
thing with Isaiah Thomas. Really talented guys, seems like a
likable guy, but nobody wants to commit long term to him.
And I think it's more than just size. How much
damage has he done to his impending free agency with
his behavior and some of the reports on him as
a teammate. It's a great question him. There's also Jonah's

(19:01):
a huge buzz kill with his hip. Okay, just because
he's backing on the court right now, I mean, does
he look like Isaiah Thomas right now. You know he
doesn't you know, twenty nine a game last year and
he did like fifteen game and I did it. Uh
the minister down a little bit because Cleveland was deeper.
But he just doesn't look like the same player. I
got some mentel over the summer from great source that

(19:23):
that is it's I don't want to use the word degenerative,
but but it was. It was not good. I think
clank was was the words that he used about. So
it's not like Isaiah Thomas and the doctors just flipped
the switch or snapped their finger and oh said, he's
clearly not And then you have, you know, sort of
these these spasms of meanness, uh that that that he does.

(19:45):
And I gotta be honest with you guys. He's best
buddies with Floyd Mayweather. Floyd Mayweather is one of the
most brash, outspoken, I'm doing me athletes that we have
on planet Earth. So I think some of some of
that sad Isaiah Thomas, and obviously comes from the chip
on the summary, the little guys, the underdog and all
that came out with Floyd Mayweather has put a big

(20:08):
old chip on Isaiah Thomas's shoulder. Rick kablet joining us
here on Fox Sports Radio. Of course, you can see
Rick on of NBA TV and reach up on Twitter
at NBA TV. Rick, what about the Lakers aspect of
this deal, because it doesn't seem to be about Issaiah Thomas,
you're channing Fry. It seems to be about the contracts
they unloaded to try to free up that cap space.
What do you like from the Lakers end or don't

(20:30):
like from what Magic and Rob Polinka did today? I mean,
they certainly took a hit with with Town, there's no
doubt Parks and in the answer Frying time, it's cloth good.
They opened up all kinds of salary cap room for
the future, for the summer pardon me, guys, the summer
and or the summer of twenty nineteen. I believe they

(20:51):
opened up two max contract slot. And you think, Paul
George James, who knows if that's uh, you know, in
the offing, who knows if Lebron you know, it's been
rumored radio and about the reality Paul Jews is flourishing
right now with Okay, see, but did they lose in
the first round of the playoffs? Uh? Just Paulson, reassess

(21:15):
things and maybe always looking beamage to the bottom line
is l a uh to the to the trade. They
got a way more flexible financially. They took a talent here,
but it's really got about that for them. This year,
they're developing the other young guys. They've gotta get Lonzo
offlick and healthy. Man, this guy's body, my god. I
mean he is not even ready to the rigors of
an a two game NBA schedule. He's proven that this year.

(21:38):
But I like what they did in terms of this
is all about the future. It's all about trying to
get one of those uh you know, high profile mark
the guys and they prey up the cap space, So
maybe do that. Rick came the last thing for me.
Let's pretend you're at a betting window and I don't
know if you dabble into that sort of stuff. I
definitely used to. Yeah, I used to be a degenerate actor.
Yeah listen, and I went to you man, and still

(22:00):
in from time to time, just depending on how much
I've had. But say you're at a betting window and
you've got to put a hundred dollars on where Lebron
James plays basketball next season. Who are you betting on? Um?
That is the it's sort a million dollar question. It's
it's it's the trillion dollar question. Um, I think it's Cleveland.

(22:20):
I just I wouldn't put any I put a hundred
books on that. Do you want if I would not
put a thousand on that? Like, I feel great about it.
But if you had a gun in my head right now,
I gotta make a call, I would say I would
say he stays in Cleveland. That it happened. That's good
because you made it through the deadline. They've got a
lot better than they did not have to give up
that pick. That's huge. Um, Rodney Wood is an asset

(22:42):
to the future. Clarkson's under contract for the future. Wan
answer is gonna be around, So I think I think
it's born. There some bouncy, vibrant young guys, and and
if James is energized about these new Lot Cavaliers, I
don't think he ever will be. It should be an interesting,
I don't know, two months of the NBA regular season,
and then it will get rolling on with the posts

(23:04):
and the All Star Game is just kind of there.
This trade deadline has lived up to every single expectation.
Rick Camwell of NBA TV and the Game in Atlanta,
thanks so much, Rick. We'll do it again soon. Okay,
oh man, what if you're if you're covering the NBA, well,
what is your like do you just have to have
one of those batteries on you at all time? Like,

(23:25):
here's my cell phone? Would just be gutted the guy
I could know way you could keep it charged the
entire time, especially with all the craziness going on in Cleveland.
The fact is, when the NFL trade deadline comes up,
you have very little player movement. When the baseball trade
deadline comes up, you have guys who are traded Jonas,
but it's usually on a contract where it's a rental

(23:46):
for two months. With this NBA trade, like to get
the names, oh my good, like like the the insiders
that the NFL guys have to Okay, maybe that that's
disrespectful what you just did, man. The fact that you're
just gonna tarnish the great memory of the Bobby Humphrey
Sammy Smith trade between Denver and Miami years ago. To

(24:08):
have to cover the NBA like those Baseball insiders and
and NFL insiders. When the trade deadline comes now, have
nothing on what the NBA has to deal with just
I mean, and it is in the names of players
in the spring I mean baseball. All it is is like,
all right, who's not going to resign with their team
next year so we can trade them by July one.

(24:28):
That's some of the deal in the NBA. But there's
a whole another level to it now as well. Who
do you think it's more phone calls for interviews NBA
reporters during the trade deadline or college basketball reporters from
hosts that haven't watched the sport all season starting at
about March ten. Who do you think it's the most?
Oh gosh, I would say, you know, the college basketball

(24:52):
one is interesting. It's funny because I told Ryan Music,
our producer, before the show and before these trades went down,
I watched the Ohio State produe game last night, and
I think most people were probably watching the Timberwolves Calves game,
like I've must watch TV. But I'm like, what game
means less in the long run because you've got you know,
And that's part of it with college basketball, and we've

(25:13):
argued that with NBA. But I would go with the
college basketball. I guess aspect of it people reaching out.
I refused to watch any television last night because I
was so piste off that Total Divas had ended for
the season and I couldn't stomach the idea of Wednesday
night without That's awful. But again at show prep, So
what do you want me to do? All right? Um? Okay,
Dan Buyer Jonas Knox in for Doug got leave here

(25:35):
on Fox Sports Radio coming up next you will not
believe how wealthy someone just got in the matter of minutes. Okay,
So we will tell you who that is coming up
next year on fs ARE. But for all the latest
from around the world of Sports's deb Carson, you have
big hint right here Mike Garifolo reporting that Jimmy Garoppolo
got paid today a five year, one thirty seven and

(25:56):
a half million dollar deal for the San Francisco forty nine.
His quarterback seventy four milla that guaranteed. That was Lane
Johnson as the Eagle celebrated their Super Bowl championship with
a victory parade today in Philly. The NBA trade deadline
has come and gone. One guy who will reportedly stay
put as Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan's Adrian war Zanowski,

(26:18):
reporting that the Clips have made no trade for him.
Sons acquired former first round pick Alfred Payton from the
Magic for a teen second round pick. Lakers reportedly acquire
Isaiah Thomas, Channing Fry and a protected first round pick
from the Cavaliers for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jazz.
Cavaliers and Kings swing a three team trade, sending Jay
Crowder and Derrick Rose to Utah, George Hill and Rodney

(26:39):
Hood to Cleveland, Joe Johnson, y Mont Schampert and a
second round picked to Sacramento, Nuggets, Nicks and Mavericks three
team deal there as well, Emanuel Moodier to New York,
Devin Harris to Denver, Doug McDermott to Dallas, and finally, guys,
it looks like you can go home again, the Cavalier
sending Dwyane Wade back to Miami for a protected second
round pick. Thank you very much. I was Rick was

(27:01):
surprised about that deal, and I mean, I guess I
was well because I just thought that Lebron just wanted
to hang out with Dwayne Wade. That's why he went
to Cleveland. Well, I think it was Cassidy how Birth
of ESPN was saying that talking with Dwyane Wade that
he said he's never seen a locker room like this
in fifteen years in the NBA, like what they had
in Cleveland. I don't know if he meant that I've

(27:22):
never seen a locker room like this and also one
that I'm also going to be traded from. But if
i'm if I'm Dwayne Wade at this point, like why
why go race to the NBA Finals to get swept
again by an average margin of thirty points a game
with the way this roster is, when you can just
go hang out in Miami and Lebron, Yeah, and Lebron
James has already posted on Instagram a thank you and

(27:44):
and a picture of Dayne Wade in his Heat uniform
and congratulating him on going back home. And remember there
was bad blood between Dwayne Wade and the Miami Heat
for his last couple of years because he wanted more
money and the Heat wouldn't of it to him because
he felt that he gave them a discount. Ends up
then trying to be you know what, I want to

(28:04):
play in my hometown of Chicago that doesn't work out
as well. The grass isn't necessarily always greener, and I
think Dwayne Wade found that out. Yeah, and and Dwyane
Wade also made made very very known that when he
went to Chicago that it was Jimmy Butler who recruited
into Chicago, which I think was a sort of a
slide at pat Riley because pat Riley always got credit

(28:25):
for getting bosh and and Lebron James to Miami, when
the reality is, if those guys aren't close friends with
Dwayne Wade, they're probably not going there because of pat Riley.
I mean that just it wouldn't wouldn't work out that way,
So it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
I do want to let you know, Dan that you
should never get stranded right. This is in order, Dan,
do not get stranded. Head into auto zone and get
your car battery tested for free if it's four years

(28:48):
old or older, if it needs replacing, get a dependable
Dura last sold only at auto zone. Get to auto
zone today. The grass maybe greener for Dwayne Wade in Miami,
but cash is greener for Jimmy Garoppolo in the Big area. Yes,
the San Francisco forty quarterback getting a five year deal
worth one thirty seven and a half million dollars. As

(29:10):
you heard deb say, ninety million guaranteed. How how many years? Five? Yes,
a five year deal for Jimmy Garoppolo. There will be
no franchise tag And at twenties six years old, guess
who was the highest paid player in the NFL on
average salary? It is Jonas Knocks Yes, John Ramos. All right, yeah,

(29:35):
by the way, now that Jimmy Garoppolo has got all
that money, and that'll go a long way. At that
dive bar that sold hot dogs that we walked into
that one time in San Francisco. Remember, Yeah, we we
don't serve food, but if you get a hot dog
at seven eleven, you can bring it in here. Awesome cool? Yeah,
can we just eat out of the trash can while
we're at it? That's uh, that that was true. We

(29:56):
serve drinks, but you have to get You can bring
in food from anywhere else, including the convenience store that's
just around the corner. And this beer tastes so good.
It just brings out the flavor. I like all on
the menu they gave you convenience store recommendations on what
to pair our wine or beer with Jack Links beef,

(30:19):
Jerky Teryaki goes perfectly with um. But the forty Niners listen.
We talked two days ago about Matt Ryan and maybe
him getting a long term deal with the Falcons, but
the Falcons not wanting to pay as much for as
much of the hype that we had with Jimmy Garoppolo
and the San Francisco forty he being the highest paid

(30:41):
player right now in the NFL on average. Shalary Jonas,
I don't think he's overpaid like Matt Ryan is a like.
We expect something from Jimmy Garoppolo, and in the limited
amount of time we have seen greatness in the eight
to nine years for Matt Ryan, we have seen one
season of greatness and everything else mediocre. And at some

(31:03):
point when Aaron Rodgers gets a new contract and other
quarterbacks get their new deals, Jimmy Garoppolo is going to
be a bargain for the San Francisco forty Niners. And
now the forty Niners can take his contract. They had
tons of salary cap anyway heading into the off season.
The forty Niners in their role under John Lynch and
Kyle Shanahan just keep on going up and up. Is

(31:25):
now Jimmy Garoppolo is locked in. It's a price of
doing business, man. That's just the way it works. That's
how it is in anything. It's like gas, I mean,
I just I just filled up gas before the show
was three eight nine, Okay, Like that's like you look
back in the day, back in the nineties or eighties,
you would see gas for under a dollar in some places.
And there's for you, Dan, there's a lot of cars
out there that are paying three eighty nine for gas. Like,

(31:47):
that's just the price of doing business. So this is
the way quarterbacks are gonna get paid. This is the
way it works. Now. You can you can try and
compare him to everybody else, but it was his turn
to get paid, and when it's your turn to get paid,
you're going to get paid what the market says. And
and people if people try and complain and say, well,
what could Aaron Rodgers have gotten and what could Tom
Brady be worth? Okay, that's fine. When their time comes

(32:10):
up and they're still playing at a high level, then
you can have that conversation. And I think that the
argument becomes who would you want to pay more than
Jimmy Garoppolo, Because I'm gonna give you the top ten
average salaries. Matthew Stafford is second. Rather pay Garoppolo? Hold on,
hold on, come on, It's what I was saying. His

(32:32):
name is sta Pathford. Twenty seven million dollars for Matthew Stafford.
That would be now the second highest salary Foren Derek
Carr third, the Raiders fourth, Andrew Luck. So far, I'm
Garoppolo on all three Drew Brees four and five million
dollars for next season, I'd still rather have Garoppolo, especially

(32:53):
for long term Alex Smith, Joe Flacco, and then Aaron
Rodgers eighth, Russell Wilson ninth and Ben Roethlis Brigger tenth.
Maybe Rogers and Russell Wilson as the quarterbacks that maybe
you would rather have than maybe. And I'm saying maybe,
but when you look at the future and you put
that into the equation, I almost think that the Forts
have a bargain in signing Jimmy Garoppolo today. Like, uh, Dan,

(33:16):
you're you're a homeowner now right, you bought a house recently.
You know if you would have bought that same house
twenty years ago would have been a lot cheaper. You know,
that would have been a lot cheaper, Dan, But guess what,
you weren't buying a house twenty years ago. So why
are we even having the conversation. It's like those quarterbacks. Yeah, hey,
maybe there's some quarterbacks out there who have had better
careers who didn't make as much money. Man, Joe Montana

(33:37):
never got paid that much money in San Francisco. Neat uh,
neither did Steve Bono. Why are we having the conversation?
This is where the market is at now, and Jimmy
Garoppolo is gonna get paid and I can do it
for you. Every time a guy breaks the bank in
the NFL. You know who's not piste off about it?
Other players in the NFL at that position because it
raises their rate as well too. You think coaches weren't

(33:59):
silently applauding the fact that John Gruden got the contract
he got because of John Gruden's worth that much. If
I start winning a couple of Super Bowls, If Don
Peterson wins another super Bowl and he's up for a
contract extension, where are we going with that conversation? He's
gonna get paid. But what I do think is going
to be interesting is to see how other quarterbacks are
really how other teams use this number now, because as

(34:20):
we have gone through how many I don't know, scenarios
over the past three or four months. Whenever Jimmy Garopolo
ended up taking over the forty Niners job, when you
would compare him to the other quarterbacks, and a lot
of the quarterbacks that I just named, Jimmy Garoppolo would
be taken over them. And there was an argument that
teams are actually agents and the players could say, well, heck,
Derek Carr is making five million dollars or Matthew Stafford's

(34:42):
making twenty seven. Look at what my client has done
compared to their numbers. It's really tough to match the
hype of what Jimmy Garoppolo has done. And they could
try to spin all that they have wanted. This is
the limited, what of what you know, limited sample that
Jimmy Garoppolo has, and this players should deserve more because
they have around longer than they have accomplished more in
their career. But when you really think of what this

(35:05):
is going to be for San Francisco and such a bargain.
It's it would be tough for me if I'm another
quarterback that's looking for a new deal like Matt Ryan,
to say, how deserve more than Jimmy Garoppolo? Really, you
really do? Because many people think that Garoppolo is an
ow top five quarterback in the NFL. And and I
get news for you. In about three or four years,
when Garoppolo has got a year or two left on

(35:27):
his contract and he's won a bunch of games and
maybe he's gotten him to a super Bowl and he's
one of the best quarterbacks in the league, that contract
is gonna look like a bargain. It's gonna look It's
just that's the way. That's the price of business nowadays. Um, Dan,
speaking of money, what if I could get you up
to one thousand dollars and as little as forty eight
hours with tax Layer, Well, guess what, Dan, You can

(35:48):
do it okay because introducing refund now only from tax Layer.
All you gotta do is defile your taxes, get up
to a thousand dollars and as little as forty eight
hours with no upfront fees. Visit tax layer dot com
for d tales. Dan buyer Jonas knocks in for Doug
Gottliep here Fox Sports Radio. You can get me on
Twitter at the Jonas Knox. Coming up next though, you
will not believe which NFL team knew something that nobody

(36:12):
else did find out next year on fs ARE. This
is the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Candy,
I'm Dan Buyer. That's Jonas Knox, John Romos here as well.
You can always reach us on Twitter. I'm at Dan
Buyer on Fox Jonas. They can get you at at
the Jonas Knox and a special trade deadline Twitter address

(36:33):
for John Ramos today. Right, it's Thursday, which is a
good day to change in Twitter account names at js
Ramos zero six because it's February eight. John is going
with the zero six. That that makes sense. We've all
got a little bit of mumbo jumbo and ours. You
could just have a nice Twitter addresses at Deb Carson

(36:53):
and have everything be easy. But that's what Deb Carson has.
This is Game Time Tide on the Doug Gottlieb Show.
It's just simple enough. Just Deb Carson, like Dan Buyer
is taken by a guy who plays guitar. That's that's true.
That's the true Jonas knocks. I actually have, but I

(37:16):
forgot my password, so and I can't get in your story.
Can't get in. Gentlemen, we are playing guess who today? Alright,
let's do it alright, well, guess who in the NFL
had doubts about Josh McDaniels leaving New England before Tuesdays
fall out with the Colts who would come out after

(37:38):
the fact and pretend that they know what they're doing. Um,
I'm gonna go to Chicago Bears, Oh my god, that
is right. Owner Jim er Say, of course didn't have
an interview until the second meeting with Josh McDaniels, but
the Bears were certain of the uncertainty surrounding McDaniels. They
understood that hiring him would likely involve waiting their for

(38:00):
creating more uncertainty, especially for staffing. Interesting the Bears looking
up there ahead of the game. Yeah, man, they really.
It's really shown on the field these pasts like seventy years.
Maybe this year's your year, Jonas. Guess who? Eagles center
Jason Kelsey took shots at during his speech at the
championship parade, And I will give you a hint. There

(38:20):
are two answers to this question. I was gonna say everyone, Um,
I'm gonna say the bartender who yelled last call. No, nope, Van,
he got a shot everyone. That's who it was like.
I just thought he was gonna just everybody, everybody outside
of Philadelphia. All right, Well we he was. He called
out one of our fellow media members, Michael Lombardi. When

(38:42):
Doug Peterson was hired, he was rated as the worst
coaching higher by a lot of freaking ionaists out there
in the media. Has passed off season, some clown named
Michael Lombardi told him that he was the least qualified
head coach in the NFL. He also called out Chip
Belly for sending Howie Roseman. He banned him, he said,

(39:04):
to some part of the building where he didn't see
him for a year. But then when he came out
last season, he had a new purpose. Listen, Uh, Mike Lombardi.
I like Mike Lombardi. I'll tolerate him talking about but
don't you don't you talk about my Chip Kelly. Okay,
don't you go near my Chip Kelly, the man who
built this roster and it is the reason Philadelphia is

(39:24):
celebrating a Super Bowl right now. Thank goodness we didn't
do rank him a year ago, because that could have
been a big trouble for us. Yeah. Guess who former
Eagles quarterback Donovan McNab congratulated on Twitter for their induction
into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Oh, it's gotta
be t O. It's gotta be Terall Lewins. I will

(39:46):
guess Brian Dawkins teammates, teammates. I thought he was going
to take the high road. Well he kind of did.
He said congrats to the class of twenty teen being
inducted into the NFL's Hall of Fame. Well deserved honor
for all of the end of Jules, especially my brother
and friend at Brian Dawkins. I was honored to be
your teammate and brother. What he should have done was

(40:08):
say congrats the t O and put a gift of
him throwing up at That's how Donovan McNabb should have
handled How many times do you think that gift flew
when the Hall of Fame announcements were made? Yeah? Um, alright, Well,
guess who hasn't officially retired from the NFL but is
considering a career in politics. Okay, it can't be gronk. Okay,

(40:32):
can't be gronk. I you know what I'm gonna put it.
Give an answer, and then I'm gonna say Drew Brees. Okay,
I'm gonna say Billy Joe Tolliver his tech shoutout. Look
at that. Um, Nope, nope, Nick Mangold, believe it or not? Interesting.

(40:52):
Evidently the Essex County Republican chairman has been recruiting him
for a run at the seat of House of Representatives,
and he isn't peaked by the idea. It has to
talk it over with his wife, Nick Mangold, was that
Super Bowl week last week making the rounds? I don't
know if that still a beard. Yeah, this is game

(41:14):

(41:35):

you know, just didn't say it, didn't take the high
road with t o's who do you think we'll hear
from first today, Donovan McNabb or Donovan Mitchell. I would
have to say probably Donovan. The NBA trade deadline is

(41:58):
the thing in the past, and so is Isaiah Thomas
his tenure with the Cleveland Cavaliers. One of the many
deals done today, but the Calves trade of the point
guard to the Los Angeles Lakers. And now it was
earlier this week, Jonas we had heard from the Lakers
that maybe they were gonna focus on free agency and
nineteen had some Southern California guys available, Clay Thompson, Kawai Leonard.

(42:21):
But now it looks like is a possibility, as they've
been able to move the contracts of Larry Nance and
Jordan Clarkson by shipping them to Cleveland. The Lakers end
up getting Asaiah Thomas, Channing Fry, and the Cavalier's first
round picks, so the Lakers get a first round pick
that they didn't have entering the draft. The Lakers now
setting themselves up for a possible run at Lebron James

(42:44):
while Lebron James is back in Cleveland with half of
his team gone in other places. As the Calves were
busy on a crazy, crazy trade deadline day. Yeah, um,
very bizarre because it just seemed like everything started happening
all at once. I know there were some reports out
Brian Windhorse I think, has said that Lebron wasn't consulted
on any of the deals that were done. I don't
know how much of that you believe. I don't necessarily

(43:06):
buy that. I think you you run everything by Lebron James.
He's the de facto GM with that team. But it
just goes to show that it wasn't working. They acknowledged
that it wasn't working. I give them credit for acknowledging that,
for humbling themselves and saying, we screwed up. Let's try
and it fixed this somehow, some way, and at least
if Lebron does go, you've still got something they're moving

(43:29):
forward that you can try and build around. To your point,
what do you think the Cavaliers would say to Lebron James,
Because it's a it's a it's a slippery spot. If
you don't bring him in on trade talks, you're effectively saying,
all right, we don't care what you think about the future.
But if you bring him in and he asks for
the moon and you can't deliver. Then you're also like, Okay, well,

(43:52):
now we've really lost a shot if we had any
if we had any hope of keeping him. It's a it.
I look at it as a delicate situation on what
you can tell Lebron if you bring him into the
meetings that you're going to do a deal. You've also
got a bunch of guys who I don't think come
with the egos that were in the locker room before.

(44:12):
Because the guys that were in the locker room before
all either had prior success or were the star on
certain teams, and they're coming in with egos and this
whole I guess we've just got to concede everything to
Lebron James. We're not really into Now you get a
situation where you get a bunch of guys who are
fringe players but talented players who maybe now look at

(44:34):
an opportunity to play with Lebron James and say, oh, yeah,
this this will be fantastic, this is this is a
way to boost my presence around the league. I can
become more well known. I think that Lebron's future in
Cleveland rides on how this works out the second half
of the year. I think, I think if if, if
they get to the finals and it's a much energized

(44:55):
team and they respond well to him, and he feels like, Wow,
this is a good enter g here, Like this is
a good energy. I like being here, Like similar to
Paul George. You know, a lot of people just assume
it's a one year thing, and all of a sudden,
Paul George is there now, and he's like, I kind
of like it here. You know, maybe I didn't realize
I would like it here. The second half of this season,
I think is going to dictate whether or not he

(45:15):
leaves to go somewhere else. It can't get any worse
for what Lebron and the Cavaliers have experienced so far
in this part of the year. I do think that,
And we had heard reports over the last couple of
weeks Lebron wasn't happy that they weren't able to bring
in Paul George and Eric bled Cell prior to the
trade deadline. So you bring him in to find out, Okay,
do you want George Hill, do you want Rodney Hood?

(45:37):
We can get these guys in a deal and they
end up doing it, I I think for the Cavalier's sake,
and this is why I think it's so great for them.
And we'll look at the Lakers in a sect. But
they were able to at least do something that I
think when you took six pieces, six players that they
traded today that no one wanted. And I know it's
a first round pick, but it's likely a pick in

(45:57):
the in the twenties that they gave to the Lakers
as part of this deal. So they really turned nothing
into something. And the guys that they brought in, Jordan
Clarkson reportedly wasn't very happy with the Lakers locker room
was maybe more of a problem there, so maybe he
can turn into a positive solution and feel wanted with
the Cavaliers. Larry Nance Jr. Comes in in, you know,

(46:21):
bringing energy, as you say, or doing something off the
bench that can be something for the Cavaliers. And when
you see the success of the Houston Rockets, and you
really look at the success of the Golden State Warriors,
what is great about those teams? And we'll use the
Warriors for this example. They have four star players. Three
of them are just marksman, dead on shooters, scores and

(46:42):
can light it up. But the fourth is a guy
that can do a little bit of everything and does
a lot of the dirty work in Draymond Green. And
then you've got guess what, a veteran power forward and
David West who doesn't necessarily need to score. Zaza Pa
Julia JaVale McGee both bring different things as big men.
You bring into Jordan Bell in the draft, you have
a Patrick McCaw coming off the bench. Those aren't household names,

(47:06):
and the Cavaliers somewhere along the way felt like they
just needed to fill their roster with a bunch of guys.
And the same thing with the Rockets. If you look
at how the Rockets are put together, they needed another
guy with James Harden, but they didn't need eight superstars
because they had enough role players or guys that are
willing to do the dirty work at least with with
some of these moves. And and if you put a
guy like Larry Nantser can do that, it opens things up.

(47:29):
And I think that is just such that is that
is so key in the Cavaliers in their in their
quest to try to formulate this championship team got away
from really what a championship team is built on and
I think this can only benefit with the Cavaliers, and
if it doesn't work, who cares? It was it was
not going well anyway before you made this trade. At
least you did something to try to fix it. When

(47:50):
they traded away Kyrie Irving, they got worse as a team.
Sorry that that's just the bottom line. He's one of
the best point guards in the NBA and you brought
in another point guard who was five eight had a
bum hip and was could not let go of the
fact that he got traded and wasn't going to be
available the first part of the year. So for for
an essence, almost half the season, you traded Kyrie Irving

(48:14):
for Jay Crowder because that pick that picks nowhere to
be found yet. I mean, we don't know what that
pick is going to turn into. So you basically traded
Kyrie Irving for Jay Crowder, and so I like, and
that's the Jay Crowder portion of it kind of surprises
me because I do think that he's got a little
bit of a value there. But I just think that
maybe the Cavaliers front office was like, all right, this

(48:35):
is our last attempt at trying to make Lebron happy.
If we can't bring in a Paul George or one
of these superstars, why don't we just reincarnate this roster
and see if this makes him happy? Because after this,
and they did it in knowing that they were going
to try and jeopardize anything long term to try and
make him happy. And then after this, if he's still
not happy with what we've done for him, and we

(48:56):
have fired coaches, we've gotten rid of GMS, we've traded players,
we've made deadline deals, if after all this he's still
not happy in Cleveland and he wants to go somewhere else.
They did everything they could, And if I'm a Calf fan,
I would not blame the organization. If he walks away,
you blame Lebron because they they did everything they possibly

(49:17):
could to try and make this work with him. They
are looking at a roster next year if Lebron doesn't
come back of what the Lakers have kind of had
to deal with the last couple of years, and and
so that is going to be an issue because you're
gonna get a young guy who's gonna be a top five,
maybe a top ten pick with that draft pick you've
got Jordan Clarkson. You'll have Larry Nance who knows if
Rodney Hood is really gonna like what he sees in

(49:37):
Cleveland or could could get money somewhere else. But that's
what the Calves are facing. And either way, it was
probably not going to be good in team, but at
least nineteen season, but at least you could start the rebuild.
The Lakers rebuild hasn't worked. Their foundation to build through
the draft and to get their Big three just hasn't
been there. Their best route because of the glitz and

(50:00):
glamor and the way that that franchise can't appeal to
to so many has been free agency. And it's why
I like the move of Magic Johnson and Rob Polinka
taking over that organization. They are winners today as well.
I don't I don't want to hear one Laker fan
argue how Isaiah Thomas and a Lonzo Ball are gonna
be on the floor. Who cares like it matters zero

(50:22):
the next two months. Sure they have won as of late,
but to think that you're gonna break into the playoffs,
and even if you do, even if you continue this
great winning street, you're gonna face the Warriors in the
in the first run of the playoffs and four or
five games that series is going to be over. And
that's absolute best case scenario. But the the whole point
of the deal was to get rid of contracts. And
if you like Glary Nanson, you like Jordan Clarkson, that's fine.

(50:44):
But now you do have the ability to get Lebron James,
you do have the ability to get Paul George, you
do have the ability to get both. By shedding this,
Lakers a huge winner today. I love how they gave
themselves a little wiggle room though, because earlier this week
it was, well, listen, we're not so much focused on
the two thousand eighteen class. We're more focused on the
nineteen class. So that way they can set it up

(51:06):
if they whiff again in two thousand eighteen, because all
these moves would help them in the two thousand eighteen
free agent free agent class, Like that would all help
him in the free agent class, because you've got money
from Max contract, Isaiah Thomas's contracts coming off the books,
all of that. So now if they whiff in two
thousand eighteen, then you've got two thousand nineteen. Like at
some point, I mean, I know, like Lonzo Ball. Whatever

(51:30):
he's he's a piece on a potential good team. Kuzma
was a really good pick. I was kind of surprised
they got rid of Larry Nance. I thought that they
really like Larry Nance. You've also heard some other rumblings
about the roster there. The guy that I would keep
an eye on is Luke Walton. When did they get
away from Luke Walton? And I'm not saying that he

(51:51):
deserves to be let go his head coach. I never
root for anybody lose their job like that. But at
what point, when they're not landing free agents or they're
bringing in talent and it's not working through the draft,
did they look and go all right, Well, maybe if
we can't lure people here because of the glitz and glamour,
maybe there's a player friendly coach out there that we
can lure guys in for and step in David Fizdale

(52:14):
or somebody like that. I think there's a lot more
to go with the Lakers like it. This definitely puts
the ball in motion for them to have a big,
big off season. But if they end up whiffing like
they haven't the past several years. On on La Marcus
Aldridge and and and Dwight Howard and Greg Monroe and
all these other guys that have turned him down for
other offers. Then what are we at then? Who who
gets the act? I think he has a longer leash

(52:35):
than any other coach in the situation. Number one, because
when he was brought in, when he left Golden State,
somebody was going to give him a job. Somebody was
going to pay Luke Walton to be their head coach.
It just happened to be that the Lakers then also
had an opening, and that was going to the team
that he used to play for. Perfect fit goes back

(52:55):
to southern California and it works. But if the Lakers
job wasn't open, he was gonna be a head coach
in the NBA at something. But they penned him as
the guy and they didn't interview anybody else. Sure, But
but the point, the point that I'm making was that
the time of the timing of it, if they didn't
if if they kept their head coach, Luke Walton was

(53:16):
going to be like their main point was just to
bring in Luke Walton. I didn't care about the players
they had. They just wanted Luke Walton as their guy,
and that's under a previous regime of Mitch cup Check
and Jim Buss. So I almost look at the first
two years of his deal as just a just a wash,
doesn't doesn't matter. We know that the Lakers are a mess.

(53:38):
They're trying to build things up. So then you move
cup Check and Bus out, and you've got this season
of Magic and Polinka. And we've talked about this. Magic
and Polenka are gonna bring in the free agents. So
all of a sudden, now this season is kind of
a wash, as while you're hoping to get them to
maybe play better defense than than they have in the past,
but this is kind of a wash as well now

(53:58):
when you actually put the pieces to other if you
can bring in some free agents. I just think he's
got a longer leash than than people would would think.
And whether it's fair or unfair, I still think that
he gets more time in l A just because of
how the Lakers have been unable to construct a true
team that they wanted him to coach. I don't think
that they had any desire or any beliefs Jonas that

(54:21):
he would take a ten win twenty win team and
maximize them into a thirty forty win team, you know
what I mean, Like the hey, wasn't there to grind
If you wanted that, get a veteran coach to come
in and try to make you know something out of nothing.
I think they brought him in for big picture and
that's why I think he gets a longer leach. If
he wasn't a former Laker or had a relationship with

(54:42):
that organization, would he have gotten a job, because I
don't think he would have. I think this was another
move of the Lakers trying to relive some of their
past glory and bringing him in. And I'm sorry man,
Like so, you don't think that Luke Walton would have
been hot commodity the NBA it was. He would have
been a commodity like he would have been. There would

(55:03):
have been off There would have been offers or job
interviews out there. But the fact that they didn't interview
anybody else, it was like, all right, that's our guy
and we want him to come in. My question to
them would be, Okay, why is he your guy? And
you wouldn't even consider interviewing anybody else, Like you wouldn't
even like consider the idea that somebody else might be
a better fit. And to me, it was all because
he's a former Laker. Like I, look, I don't I

(55:26):
I like the tie there. I don't think it's the
only reason. I just don't think that you could say
that there were other top candidates. Luke Walton was the
top assistant I mean Alvin Gentry the year before I
got the Pelicans job, because he was the top assistant
at Golden State. And so when Steve Kerr is out
in to see what Luke Walton did with the Warriors,
and now you're thinking, okay, well great, and look at
the coaches that Luke played under Bill Jackson coaching under

(55:47):
Steve Kerr, I think there's no doubt that that he
was the top guy to bring in as a coach
at that time. Dan Buyer Jonas Knox in for Doug

(57:43):
close close. You want to know what my favorite part
of the show is. I think when we had Rick
Kamela on, he said Jonas like six times. But I
don't think you ever said Dan once. Did you notice
that when he was like, you know Jonas, you know Jonas,
and then he would never say Dan. I have an
explanation for that. Dan is harder to pronounce. True story.

(58:03):
At the super Bowl on Sunday, I bumped into someone
in the medium room who I have done shows with
and they said, excuse me, sir, I can't say I
can't say the name I have done shows with them.
I am so unimportant that I've sat with this person
in this studio for I would say minimum four hours

(58:25):
at least, maximum maybe eight, because we did one or
two shows. I know it was well, we'll have Scott Shapiro.
I knew it. I knew it. I know it's not
Greg Swartz, who covers the Cavaliers for the Bleacher Reports.
He joins us now here on Fox Sports Radio to
break down the trade deadline. Hey Greg, thanks so much

(58:45):
for taking the time. And what I know is a
busy day, definitely a crazy day here in Cleveland. So
let's go back twenty four hours. Who did you think
that the Cavaliers would not have on their roster after
the trade deadline? So as today you're sitting there, who
did you think that they were likely to ship out
if they were to make a deal. I did not

(59:05):
think Isaiah Thomas was going to survive the trade deadline
with the calfs um it kind of handicapped him. That
the trade deadline was moved up two weeks. That you
would like to give Isaiah maybe a little bit more
time to see if he could get a little bit
healthier and move a little bit better and sit in
with his teammates. But he he was terrible, and I
know he was hurt, but statistically, if if you look

(59:27):
at net rating, he was the worst rotation player in
the entire NBA since he came back with with the Cavaliers,
he he was making them much worse on offense and defense.
And it just didn't seem like a good fit with
personality wise, with the team. I didn't think he was
gonna be there. He ended up getting moved to the

(59:47):
Los Angeles Lakers. That's gonna be interesting there too, because
him and Alonzo Balls trying to to share the backcourt
together after that, Channing Fry for sure with his expiring contract.
I hated to see Channing go. Channing was one of
my absolute favorite people in that locker room to talk to.
UH when he came over two years ago. That was

(01:00:08):
a big part of them winning the championship. But you know,
you know how it goes with expiring deals, so I
was sad to see him go. Um. After that, I
didn't think Derek Gross was going to survive either, just
for the fact that he was your guy, that he
was going to fill in the point guard role until
Isaiah came back. Uh. He was statistically one of the
worst NBA players this season as well with his his

(01:00:31):
defense how bad that was. Offensively, he kind of hogged
possessions he could he could score, he could still get
to the basket, but he wasn't making anybody better. He
averaged less than two assists. That wasn't working with this team. UM.
I was surprised they moved so many bodies today, UH,
but a lot of the bodies that they did move

(01:00:52):
did not surprise me at all. Greg Swartz from the
Bleacher Report covers the Calves with this year. On Fox
Sports Radio, Dan Buyer Jonas knocks him. Doug Gottlieb, Greg,
let me ask you this, because you're around the team
all the time, give us an example of how bad
Isaiah Thomas was in that locker room. Maybe a story
we haven't heard, just an example of how bad it

(01:01:15):
was with Isaiah there. I think I think people were
kind of Isaiah Thomas is not afraid to speak his mind,
and I think it just rubbed people the wrong way
that he would call them out for being bad defensively
when he was the main problem of that. I know
the one comment that he made that you know, why,

(01:01:36):
why are you guys blaming this defense on me? You
guys were a bottom five defense before I got here. Um,
that did not resonate well with the other Cavaliers. There
was not a lot of leadership from his point to
say it, you know what, we need to be better
and it needs to start with me. There was never
anything like that. Um. The latest game against the Orlando

(01:01:57):
Magic that they lost, he called out the coaching saying
that they didn't make adjustments like the other teams did.
That was when the Magic came back from a one
point deficit to win by eighteen in Orlando. Uh In
a game the Cavs completely fell apart in the second half.
Um At the team meeting that they had, he and

(01:02:17):
Dwayne Wade were kind of the instigators. They're kind of
calling out Kevin Love, who you know Love. It's it
hasn't always been a perfect relationship with him in Cleveland,
but at the end of the day, he was the
twenty and ten guy who made the All Star team. Uh.
It was putting up monster numbers before Isaiah Thomas came back.
If you look at the stats that Love puts up

(01:02:37):
and Lebron puts up before and after Isaiah Thomas, he
killed their production. Isaiah Thomas was not making that team
better and kind of the point that he never really
took accountability for himself and his actions and the poor
play that he brought to the court. I think that
rubbed people the wrong way and just just removing him,

(01:02:57):
and it's it's crazy because how good he was past
year for Boston, Removing him was additioned by subtraction. This
team would be better with with Jose Colaron as the
starting point guard. That's how bad Isaiah Thomas was. Greg
Swarts of the Bleacher Report, who covers the Calves joining
us here on Fox Sports Radio. So the guys that
the Calves got from your experience and how this Calves

(01:03:18):
team plays out what you've seen of these other guys,
who brings what the Calves maybe didn't have before these trades,
and that we're talking Rodney Hood, George Hill, Larry Nance Jr.
And Jordan Clarkson. Who's going to bring something that will
be new to this Calves team. I like, let's let's
start with Hill, because George Hill has hit of his

(01:03:41):
catch and shoot three pointers this year. When you play
with Lebron James, you get a lot of catch and
shoot three pointer attempts. We saw Kyle Corver after he
was traded as the Calves last year, became a forty
eight percent three point shooter and ended up leading the league.
And George Hill has not been good this year defensively.
Last year, when he played for a good Utah Jazz

(01:04:01):
team and was motivated, he was a top ten, top
five defensive point guard in the NBA. So I'm really
excited about getting him there, you know, instead of a
Nightdiah Thomas who was not good defensively. I'm very excited
about getting him there, especially when you go into the
East and you might have to face a Kyrie, a
John Wall, Kyle Lowry, somebody like that. You need somebody
that can play some defense from that position. Um. After that,

(01:04:23):
they got a little bit bigger and a little bit
more athletic on the wings with Rodney Hood. You've got
a guy who's six seven eight has a lot of
untapped potential there. I'd love to see what he's gonna
bring him. Jordan Clarkson is kind of your point guard
off the bench now. Uh. To facilitate that offense gives
you a little bit of scoring years old, very young.

(01:04:44):
I loved the athleticism that he's gonna bring. And Larry
Nance I going back to Wyoming. Uh when when he
was coming out of the draft. I loved him, not
not just because his dad is arguably the greatest power
forward in Cavalier's history, but his athleticism, the type of
guy he is. He just fits in so well with
this team. You know the fact that he only makes

(01:05:06):
about a million dollars a year because he's still on
his rookie contract and then he's going to hit restrictive
free agency with him, Uh, that's great. His family still
lives in Northeast Ohio. I've seen his dad at many
Cavaliers games. I know they're thrilled that Larry Nance is
coming back. If I were the Caves, I would start
Larry Nancy center over Tristan Thompson from day one because
I think he's that good. I'm very excited about everything

(01:05:29):
that they brought, the youth, the athleticism. This is a
team that had to have a major roster shake up,
just personality wise, and they did that today. Uh. Last
one for me, Greg greg Sports Bleacher Report covers the
Calves with this year on Fox Sports Radio. What is
the dynamic and what's the dynamic like between Lebron James

(01:05:49):
and ty Low and also Lebron James and Dan Gilbert
the owner there, and how has that changed this year?
Nothing has changed between Lebron and Dan Gilbert. There. There
is no relationship there. Uh. From everything I've gathered, the
two don't have communication. UM. That stems from a lot

(01:06:11):
of different things. It stems from a from their first
tenure together. It stems from their political views. They both
supported the different presidential candidates and we're very vocal about
that UM. And I think there there's kind of been
a power struggle as well, especially when you when you
heard the rumor that the Calves were trying to trade

(01:06:31):
Tristan Thompson and j R. Smith to the Clippers for
DeAndre Jordan, and the Calves would have added a pick
for that. It was almost like they were trying to
clear cap space more so than they were trying to
improve their team when you heard rumors like that. Now,
at the same time, the Calves are set up a
lot better for a post Lebron future should that happen,

(01:06:53):
which Dan Gilbert went on record UH in two thousand
and twelve saying that you know that was a mistake
that they didn't trade Lebron in because of how bad
their team was after he left. Now that team is
a lot better if he does leave. Um, the two
of them don't have a relationship, they don't have to
have one, uh and and it's it's I don't know

(01:07:13):
that it's ever been good. Now when you talk Tylo,
Tyler is a guy that has Lebron's respect. Uh. When
David Blatt was here, Lou was the guy that Lebron
would always go to when when he had a question,
when he had a concern, when he wanted to talk
to a member of the coaching staff. That relationship, from
everything that I've gathered, is still solid. Um Lebron did

(01:07:33):
has never wanted Tyler fired, and I think with all
these young bodies that Tyler always talks about playing with pace,
you couldn't do that with the oldest roster in the NBA,
which Kavalier's had. Now. The Cavs average ages twenty eight.
It dropped by almost two years after the day's trade,
and I think that's going to be a major part
of his coaching decision and how they changed the style

(01:07:55):
that they play. UM. So at the end of the day,
I think this only probably improves the relationship between Tyler
and Lebron James. He covers the Cavaliers for the Bleacher Report.
He is Greg Schwartz. Greg, thanks so much of the time.
We appreciate it, and uh yeah, try to get a
break from this crazy day. No, this has been a
good day. This has been a very good day for

Up next, we are going to have some information out
of the world of the NFL. Some interesting stuff has
come down. We'll have that for you next here on
Fox Sports Radio. But for all the latest from around
the world with sports, it's step Carson. Big headline from
the NFL. Jonas Mike Garifolo reporting to the forty Niners

(01:08:58):
and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo agreed to a five year, one
hundred thirty seven and a half million dollar deal. Seventy
four mill of that guaranteed. Mean while the NBA tread
trade deadline has come and gone, may still get some
news of things in the works right now. But the
Cavaliers making some big moves. They acquired Jordan Clarkson and
Larry Man's junior from the Lakers and exchange for Isaiah Thomas,

(01:09:19):
Channing Fry and a protected first round pick. Cleveland also
gets George Hill and Rodney Hood in a three team
trade with the Jazz and the Kings. Jay Crowder and
Derrick Rose head to Utah. In that deal, Joe Johnson,
Ymont shapperd in a twenty second round pick head to Sacramento. Nuggets,
Nicks and Mavericks were part of a three team deal
as well. They send Emmanuel Moodier to New York, Devin

(01:09:42):
Harris to Denver, Doug mcderri headed to Dallas. Nix and
Nuggets also swap a second round pick as part of
the deal. Cavaliers send Dwayne Wade back to the Heat
for protected second round pick, and the Pistons acquired James
Ennis from the Grizzlies for Bryce Johnson and a second
round pick. Detroit also acquiring a Mere Nelson from the Vols.

(01:10:03):
What's old as new? I my first shock today, okay,
this is of of looking at the NBA trade deadline
that we were invited back. No, no, that that wasn't dead.
My My my first shock today was that somebody thought
that Derrick Rose actually had value left. That was like,

(01:10:23):
and it was I mean listen, like Greg even said
that he thought that Isaiah Thomas wouldn't survive the trade deadline.
But if everything that has happened today, even Dwayne Wade
going back to Miami, Derrick Rose going to Utah was
the like I was like, oh, jeez, wow, they actually
swing a deal of three team deal and somehow they
get the two best players in the deal. I'm seeing,

(01:10:45):
by the way, a lot of angry Miami fans out there,
angry that they're getting Luke bab at An Twaine Wade back,
a lot of hostility. Yeah, Dion Waiters is out for
the year, right, so what are you gonna do? Like,
what what do they what do they really think? Like
can everybody just acknowledge? I mean, you know it? Why

(01:11:05):
don't you say it out loud? Like this is a
race for second place? So like, let's make it more interesting.
Also sidebar, the league needed There weren't enough rivalries going
on and hatred between players in the NBA, so they
needed one more. Now, every time Isaiah Thomas plays the calves,
that's juicy stuff. Man. Every time he goes against Lebron,

(01:11:25):
you got another rivalry. It was a great day for
the NBA, A great day for the NBA. And I
know that the worries. Yes, it is live from the
set of Cocoon. Live from the set of Cocoon. It's
Chris Ballard. Everybody hit. I've never saw it? So who's that?
Is that? What is it about Vietnam? Is? That? Was?

(01:11:48):
Was that? What was? What was that? Was saving Private Ryan?
That was? No, that was World War two? What is it? John? Old?
People swimming getting young again, getting their energy back, and
there's these pods at the bottom of the pool. Steve
Guttenberg's in it. That was Cocoon? Yeah, jeez, what was
the What movie am I thinking of? What was was?

(01:12:10):
That was Tom barn jer in It was that you're
thinking of Platoon? Tell you I don't watch movies. I
have no idea. Thank goodness here, dank goodness. Anyway, DEVI
and I will be dropping a Cocoon podcast driving this
Daisy hits. I couldn't Cocoon was when? Uh? What? Six? Maybe? Okay,

(01:12:37):
how the hell do you know that? John? John just
screams out, But I think you said here, I don't
think yes, and I believe I'm double checking and leave
Donna meets you won an Academy award. Also, John probably
pulled hit the scammy polls for every premiere, he goes
to the red carpet, he uses media credentials. Did you
and Susan do the media credential scam and go to
the red carpet premiere of Cocoon back then? Yeah? Yeah,

(01:13:00):
we were there. It was fun. When was Platoon made? When?
So at the same Okay, so at least I got
the air I apparently totally off in the movies that
that that whatever they was not in Cocoon? Okay? And
what and what was Cocoon about? It was about these uh,

(01:13:22):
these old people who try and get young and they're
like they're they're like almost like aliens, and there's these
like weird pots. When I'm describing it, it really sounds
bizarre that I was allowed to watch that as a child,
because they're like these these old people diving into swimming pools.
I think Wilford Brimley was in it. Yeah, yeah, geez. Okay,
by the way, is not in Platoon? Coming up next hour,

(01:13:42):
we're going to play a game. Okay, the game is Cocoon,
Platoon or Altun. I know who went to Wisconsin. I
know who that is for sure. Well, we were going
to talk about Jimmy Garoppolo, and then my lack of
movie knowledge while embarrassing, I have no shame. I have

(01:14:05):
not seen the movies. I don't know. I'm not sure
how did John know when the movie was made? It
was amazing thing I've ever seen. That's rain Man right there,
that's counting toothpikes. John just screams out in nineteen six,
what did when the Academy Award for Best I put
an actor in that movie and he then came out
as he was gay after being playing in the NBA. Right,

(01:14:26):
That was? That was? That was that was that is
after his playing career at Penn State. That is amazing true.
It's true that John a Mici, Oh yeah, yeah, that's not.
John's covering his mouth like, oh my goodnessy the way
that actually happened, and there's nothing wrong with it. John.

Hood from the Jazz, George Hill from the King's and

this could all be part of a big picture thing
for the Lakers, and we dive more into that now
as we hear what Clay Travis had to say earlier
today on Fox Sports Radio and out kicked the coverage

(01:17:22):
on what Lebron James should look forward to as free agenteers.
Why does Lebron James need a max contract? Other than
for ego? This is a guy who's gonna end up
or should end up a billionaire. Why does he need
Like if you right now, where if I were advising
Lebron James, I would say, dude, why do you need
to make thirty five million dollars? Make twenty million and

(01:17:45):
go to a better team and give your chance team
a chance to win a championship with the fifteen million
that they're saving on you. You don't have to sign
a max contract. Why does a max contract matter to him? That?
Looking ahead to what Lebron would get if he joined
the Los Angeles Lakers, and a max contract for Lebron
isn't something that he's always wanted or gotten. Jonas because

(01:18:08):
it was in Miami where he did actually take less
to make things work with the Miami Heat. The issue
that that I have in saying the argument is you
can't take ego out of it. Like ego is a
is a part of it. There are guys who just
want to be paid because they feel that their talents
are to that point. And so when you're looking at it,
ego has to play a part in the decision, whether

(01:18:31):
it's ridiculous or not. It is going to play a
part in whether Lebron wants to take a Max deal
or not, because there was a time in his career
he didn't take a MAX deal to try to win titles. Well,
I mean, listen, it's similar to today. I mean, when
I decided to come back in to day and do
the show with you, dan Um. I mean I raked
management over the coals on a deal. I mean I

(01:18:51):
I I put my foot down and I said no, no,
I you know, basically said a couple of commas gonna
need uh, you know, a preferred parking spot, which is
why I got the ninth floor today, Dizzy. So again,
you know, and that's that just goes to show you
the my ego. I wanted to park next to all
the people going into that crummy yoga studio next door,

(01:19:13):
Like that is really the goal. Of mine. But but
no in all series is it is ego of course,
and these guys at a certain point in time look
at it and go all right, well, listen, I've been
taking a pay cut for this long and this long
to try and help everybody out. You know what, screw it.
You guys have the money, and you also don't want
to set a precedence because now, if if you're a
guy who's taken a major pay cut, Lebron James could

(01:19:35):
afford to play the rest of his career for free.
He could afford to pay twenty million dollars to play
for the rest of his career, and he's still going
to be a multi multi, multi multimillionaire because of all
his other business investments. But the players are all in
this together and they don't want to set the precedents
that well, look, Lebron took a big pay cut. Why
can't you? I mean, Lebron did it, and I think

(01:19:57):
that's that's more so what these guys Okay, like Levian
Bell made a comment at the Pro Bowl, I think
it was tore He said, you know, I'm trying to
look after the guys. Uh, you know, the guys that
come after me and their contracts. And while it is
a bit embellished, there is something to that because now
you look around and you're like, well, if I set
the market so low for me, what's everybody else going

(01:20:18):
to do? And I think Lebron, if anything, has always
wanted to leave the players with more power when he
left than when he came in. And I think that's
part of it. I also think that that crap only
flies in baseball, like baseball pitchers really set the mark,
or if you're an outfielder. And and now we've seen
how bad it's gotten in baseball that certain free agents
aren't aren't signing just because they may want more money,

(01:20:39):
and teams may not want to play the hundred and
thirty remaining free agents, and so you know, and there
are spring training games that kids you not uh. In
two weeks a week from tomorrow, spring training games will
will start. But going back to what Lebron has done
the NBA, there there is no there's not a precedent
for some saying, well, if Lebron James is only making

(01:21:02):
ten million dollars a year, then you're gonna get eight.
I mean, at one point, remember Mike Conley was the
highest paid player in the NBA. So Lebron's got to
realize that, all right, if you if you were to
take the guys will still get their money if there
is money available. Two place points about why would you
take less? Is even adding to his championship total going

(01:21:28):
to change anything? Lebron's got three titles right now, two
with the Heat and one with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Is
four going to make a difference? No, No, it's not,
and and and it's not. And so when you really
look at all of it, you say, okay, well, then
what's really the point of anything, Like, I mean, if
you're gonna be a billionaire, and what's the point of

(01:21:49):
you've been playing basketball again? Like that's that's sort of
the slippery slope. So when I say you can't take
out ego, that's really all that it is. Is that
Lebron adding another championship to his you know, to his
resume isn't gonna do anything. So he doesn't need to
take less from that, We're not gonna look at him
any differently than we do now. I think Cleveland changed things.
If you're Lebron James, it's just being Lebron James. Just

(01:22:11):
like Michael Jordan's was the highest paid player in his
deals that he had towards the end of his tenure
with the Bulls. That has to play a role in it. Yeah,
and uh, And I also think, like if I'm Lebron
James and I'm looking around, I've wondered if maybe he
changed the trajectory on what he wanted to accomplish, because
he'll never have the argument over Michael Jordan's titles. He'll

(01:22:32):
never even have that argument over Robert ore entitles, Like
that's just never gonna happen. But what if he won
titles in three different places? You know what? What? You
know what? What he could find himself, you know, entering
a different realm that nobody else has done. I'm gonna
win a title in three different places. You know what
if I did go to the Clippers and want a
title with with the l A Clippers, and now I
won championships for two franchise that had never had him before.

(01:22:55):
Like I think that's maybe where more his mindset is
that and and and to that point, which is a
really good point, I think there's only one market where
it makes a difference, where if you win another title
with the team like if you want to, if you
want to Phoenix or in Houston, who cares? But if
he was a guy who brought a title to the Lakers,
that is a different story. Online car shopping can be confusing,

(01:23:17):
not anymore. With True Price from True Car, now you
can know the exact price you'll pay for your next car.
So visit True Car to enjoy a more confident car
buying experience. You know who I really feel bad for John?
Not yes, John and the seventy sixers because now that
the Eagles have won their Super Bowl title, anything that
the Sixers do will not even be close to the

(01:23:38):
fan fair we've seen in phil Like if your brother
was Dirk Diggler and Johnny Ramos. You're on this Thursday,
on this NBA trade deadline Thursday. If you missed it,
you missed a lot and and a lot to do
with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cavaliers today trading six players, getting
four new ones, including George Hill from the King's Rodney
Hood from the Jazz and Jordan Clarkson and Larry Dance Jr.

(01:24:01):
From the Lakers. Is as Aiah Thomas is now on
his way to La La Land and Dwyane Wade on
his way out. There are reports already from Miami as
he was dealt to the Heat that he could be
in action tomorrow against the Milwaukee Bucks. But DeAndre Jordan
was not dealt. Neither was Kemba Walker. So some of
the bigger names that you thought that could be on
the move prior to the trade deadline ended up staying put.

(01:24:22):
And the Cleveland Cavaliers, though the ones who had the
most action after last night's last second victory over the
Minnesota Timberwolves in overtime, they do more damage today by
trading half their team. Jonas Listen, there's a lot of
dramas around in the Cavaliers. I have no idea what
this is going to turn into, whether Lebron James is
gonna be gone, whether the Lebron James Rodney Hood combination

(01:24:44):
is going to scare anybody out of the Western Conference
or the Eastern Conference in the postseason. But I will
say this, Dan, has there been a more enjoyable team
to get to follow along and cover as a sports
media member than the Calves, And quite sometimes this has
been really been making deficient for so many different reasons,
and the layers of Lebron James and what could happen

(01:25:04):
next season, the Kyrie Irving trade in the off season,
and then throw everything in between. I mean, it is
it has been really really when you look at it,
when the Browns, the city of Cleveland has provided sports
talk radio and sports fans with so much conversation and

(01:25:25):
the Browns being as bad as they are, the dysfunction
in that front office, and this even dates back to
Johnny Manzel and and when they when they drafted him
out of Texas A and M. And now you've had
Lebron's return. There's just so much the it's crazy on
how much Cleveland has provided for so many out there.
But there's still such a story in Jonas. Right now,

(01:25:47):
they are still in the thick of things in the
Eastern Conference. Granted they're closer to being out of the
playoffs than they are of the second seed, but it
really maybe tells you more about the Eastern Conference than anything.
Even in their win last night and overtime gave up
a hundred and eight points in the Minnesota Timberwolves. We'll
just have to see. Now with the freeing of these
issues and freeing of these problems that they had specifically

(01:26:08):
with Isaiah Thomas, will actually change what the Cavaliers do
on the courts. We do have the audio of the
Cavaliers announcing where they had traded Isaiah Thomas too earlier.
Interesting that was I like how they announced trades, not
like that they say that this person has been traded

(01:26:29):
and this is where they are going. Should we have
Kobe Altman do this now? I get that guy who
started Dick Tracy to do it. Let's I think that'll
be resonate more with our our older audience was was
that guy in either platoon or cocoon now? And I
can assure you he definitely is not al Tune. I'm
going to show you that that is for sure. Earlier

(01:26:51):
on the show, Greg Swartz of the Bleacher Report, who
covers the Cleveland Cavaliers, talk to us about the trades
that went down today and specifically the one that sent
Isaiah Thomas out of town packing to Lola Land. Isaiah
Thomas is not afraid to speak his mind, and I
think it just rubbed people the wrong way that he

(01:27:11):
would call them out for being bad defensively when he
was the main problem of that. I know the one
comment that he made that you know, why, why are
you guys blaming this defense on me? You guys were
a bottom five defense before I got here. Um, that
did not resonate well with the other cavaliers taking no accountability.

(01:27:31):
And if he likes to speak his mind, I definitely
think the place to be is the city of Los
Angeles with the Lakers in the same backcourt as LaVar
Ball's son. That's uh. That's also another thing that will
be fun to watch as well to listen. Isaiah Thomas
is a pain in the ass, all right, you don't
You're not dis talented and you get dealt this many
times without being a giant pain in the ass. He's

(01:27:51):
a me first guy. Nobody wants to say it because
everybody wants to be nice and but but it's all
he's gonna play the victim. He's gonna say a you know,
he comes out last night and talks about how, you know,
I don't want to be traded. I really like it
here in Cleveland. You like it here so much that
that you've been annihilating everybody on that roster and the
coaching staff since you got there. You're the new guy

(01:28:13):
in town. You've got one leg and you're calling out
other teammates because they might be sick. It's he's he's
such a pain in the ascid if he doesn't get
it now that that he's been traded this many times
for a reason that I don't know when he's gonna
get it. I wonder what the Lakers plan with him
is going to be. And I have an idea. I

(01:28:34):
would have a guess, and it's going to be a
two month stay in Los Angeles and then he has
gone inspiring contract forecast. That's what it's going to be.
But it'll be amazing to see on what he has
to say in the Lakers locker room, just because the
Lakers are just just barely ahead of the Calves for
the worst defense in the NBA. It's actually the the

(01:28:55):
Sons of the worst defense and then it's the Pelicans,
but the Calves are tied with the Orlando with the
Lakers just allowing a half point less per game, so
it's not like So we'll see if Isaiah Thomas carries
over his stick if anybody wants to ask him about
the Lakers on how bad their defense is, because he
is not going to help l a one bit over
these next a little known fact. I don't want to
I don't want to call this breaking news because I

(01:29:16):
don't want to gloat too much. But I actually did
a little bit of research. The Lakers actually have a
worse defense this season than even the Vancouver Grizzlies. So
there's that as well. To Dan, that's not bad, that's
a that's a stat that you will only get. I
got a text from Bryant big Country reeves. Oh really, okay,
I would love I would those those colors are needed.

(01:29:37):
Back in the NBA, I was a big fan of
the Grizzlies colors at the time, and it's always interesting
just to see Vancouver in the standings. You only get
that in the NHS. Actually, one of the things that
annoys me about the Golden Knights, they're not the Las
Vegas Golden Knights, they're just Vegas. So when it's just
they put the city, they just put Vegas, and I

(01:29:58):
would like to see Las Vegas in there. It's just
it's different than when you're like what Portlands like the Trailblazers.
There's no other Portland's in professional sports, and when you
see the standings Portland's stands out, you notice these things
that I never think about, but they're really good observations
until afterwards. Oklahoma City is another man like and and
you're like, oh, yeah, that does look kind of unique

(01:30:19):
in the standing because you don't get it in any
other sport. Can I tell tell my beer couzy story
real quick? Because of Dan? Okay, So, Dan Buyer, you
don't drink. Have you ever drink in your like maybe, yeah, sure,
but I just yeah, I haven't had a drink in
like twenty years. Me neither. It's been like a half hour.
But Dan, my brother owns a bar and bud Light
gave them a bunch of these beer couzy sleeves that

(01:30:40):
you put around your beer, and on the back of
them were all these NFL helmets and all these these
NFL every team in the NFL helmet and Dan loves
stuff like that. So I brought him in one and
he looks at it. He goes, oh, this is awesome,
and it's got all the teams on there. And he
goes and they did it right? What do you mean?
He goes, well, Um, they didn't put the Steeler logo on.

(01:31:01):
And I was like, well, how is that right? Well,
because the way that it's facing that's not the side
the logos on. The logos on the other side, so
at least this is accurate. I said, what by how
the hell did you even notice? Like I would have
never even thought that, How the hell did you even
notice that? It's just I'm glad because they could have
done it the easy way and just put the logo
on the other side. But the way that the face

(01:31:22):
mask was pointing, which would be pointing to the left,
is not the place that the logo is on. It's
interesting too. I don't know if you guys, we are
totally off trade deadline, but when you have oh my god,
it's it's it's when you look at at certain logos.
It's like the Kansas City Chief's logo. When the Kansas

(01:31:44):
City Chief's logo is done a certain way, they're they're pointing,
I believe, for like the arrows are are forward, and
you could do it the flip like like if it
was the face mask was facing right where the arrow was,
you would think, okay, well maybe of flip it around
and it's going that way, And that's that's not the case.
They actually have it going in the same direction of

(01:32:05):
both ways. Well speaking of logos, Dan, do you think
that Lebron James is happy with the number of players
and the guys included that will now be wearing the
Cavaliers logo Transition everybody. Yeah, I'll be teaching that course
later on Transition one on one. By the way, one
of the worst decisions that Calvs made was to take
Navy out and put black into their uniforms. That there

(01:32:27):
was another reason why they were having It's always race.
It always of the gold in the maroon and the wine.
But then when you end up moving it to black,
it was a it was a big issue. It just
I don't think that it goes very well. He can
I ask you something as a as a Milwaukee Bucks fan, Okay,
is a guy who roots for a team that is
that is on the rise, that is trying to make

(01:32:49):
a dent in the Eastern Conference and be a legitimate contender.
You see what Cleveland did? Okay? This is kind of
an interesting discussion because if you're a team in the
Eastern Conference you see what Cleveland did, does that show
you that they're either conceding this season or that they're
just preparing for loss next year? Well, like, like, what

(01:33:10):
what do you see when you see those moves made
in Cleveland. If if as a Bucks fan it's a
short term okay, this is probably gonna be a little
bit more difficult. I mean, Milwaukee was playing at a
clip when after Jason Kidd was fired that they were
actually honing in on the three seed, and at one
point the thing pulled even they're not at that point
right now, but they're within a game of it. I

(01:33:32):
look at it as more of a long term play
because when Jonathan, you even look at that division, the
Bulls are still a ways off. The Pacers are a
better team, and that's a team that you're going to
compete with. But I do think that talent wise, Milwaukee
will have an edge on them, and the same thing
with with Detroit now with Blake Griffin, that Central Division,

(01:33:52):
even though we don't look at divisions very much, is
for the taking. And then you look at the East
and you're like, okay, well, if the Cavaliers fall off,
the Bucks have an opportunity to be a top three
team in the East. So short term not good, long
term good. But if they're going to see these trades
being made and you don't bring in a Deandrew Jordan.
The Bucks are are really hurt in the middle. They
brought in Tyler Zeller in a trade a couple of

(01:34:15):
days ago, but they just really don't have a true
center or someone to block shots in the middle. Not
that that's needed when when you in today's NBA, but
it sure helps when they are somewhat um insufficient on defense.
They really could use a guy at the rim defensively,
because a year ago when we were doing this show,

(01:34:35):
remember everybody was ripping teams like Boston because man, why
didn't you guys make a move at the deadline. Now
you're a bunch of hoarders. All you do is hold
onto your draft picks, go make a move. And you
and I were on the air saying, listen, there was
no move to be made that would have put them
ahead of Cleveland. So why would you sell everything now
when you're not any anywhere closer to being able to

(01:34:57):
contend with Cleveland? And what's interesting now is it seems
like the gap is closed, if if if, if, the
the gap hasn't closed. Teams like Toronto and Boston are
either neck and neck or maybe better than Cleveland at
this point in time, and they still didn't make a move,
which leads me to believe that those those are those
are teams in the Eastern Conference that look at Cleveland

(01:35:20):
and go, I think we're good, Like I don't know
that we need to do anything because we'll take our
chances in the postseason. If he still is all is
all world as he has been. If they win, it's
gonna be because Lebron is carrying the load. But I
think teams around the Eastern Conference are like, yeah, this
thing's coming to an end. I I look at the

(01:35:41):
Wizards as a team that also could have been in
on DeAndre Jordan and John wallbying out may have altered
their plans and not wanting to even though they've been
winning without him, to try to take over that top
spot for these next two months, Jonas doesn't seem worth it.
To your point of as you as you look like
if you brought in a DeAndre Jordan to Washington norm Milwaukee,

(01:36:01):
I think they're a legit contender to make it to
the NBA Finals, but that's just for this year and
there's no hope after that. To your point, I think
it's very true as they look at it and say, yeah, yeah,
we're all right. Deando Jordan could have made that difference,
but he's staying as a Clipper. Dan Buyer, Jonas Knox

whether your policy is game ready. Find an agent at
Farmers dot com. Are Farmers lost in all of the
deals that happened in the NBA where it was a
deal that happened today in the NFL with the San
Francisco forty Niners have made Jimmy Garoppolo the highest paid
quarterback in the National Football League if you go by

(01:37:24):
average salary. So Jimmy Garoppolo is gonna make twenty seven
and a half million dollars, agreeing to a five year
deal with one hundred and thirty seven and a half
million dollars joining us on the show to talk about
that Eagles parade and a whole bunch more in the NFL.
He covers the NFL for CBS Sports. He's Jason Lucking
for Hey, Jason, thanks so much for the time today.

(01:37:47):
Let's let's start with Garoppolo. How surprised were you that
he became now the highest paid player in NFL history? Uh?
Not at all, um. You know, unluck, these things are
very fleeting. I mean, there was a moment went where
Joe Flacco was the highest paid player in NFL history,
and then he got lapped by three guys in three months.
So you know, it's sort of a ever changing, ever

(01:38:10):
growing landscapes. So uh he you know, you're talking about
negotiating off of twenty five million a year. I mean,
that's what we're looking at when you start talking about
franchise tags. And so he got a little more than that.
But look, he played lights out football. He's a guy
who literally could save that franchise. Um. Could they have
saved themselves some money if they had gone to him

(01:38:32):
the moment they made the trade, like like a lot
of us expected and said, we'll give you three years
seventy five million right now, Um, something like that. Yeah,
they could have. But you know, this is the rate
of doing business at that position. For a guy with
his potential and upside to secure his rights for five
years is very significant for that organization. To avoid the

(01:38:54):
franchise tag and get the deal done before February twenty
when you can start applying it is huge for that franchise.
Just go look at the tobaccle with the Redskins and
Kirk Cousins and who's the head coach, KYL Shanahan, who
was there, you know for the end of r G three.
In the start of Kirk cousins and and all the
Shenanigans that the Redskins have gotten into with their starting
quarterback the last three years. So you weren't gonna see

(01:39:16):
that mistake made um twice, not that it was Kyl
Shannahan's call on the franchise tag. I mean he was
already gone. But you get the gist. So you you you,
you know, you get that guy. You get them for
you know, only given up the thirty what thirty fourth
pick in the draft? Uh, you better keep him around
for a long time, and no sense going year to
year with him. It's a win win, It's it's huge

(01:39:37):
for Jimmy Garoppolo obviously, it's generational wealth and the forty
Niners for the first time, you know what since the
Alex Smith Colin Kaepernick debate days, have at least one
guy who they can count on at that position. Jason
looking for a CBS Sports NFL insider with this year
on Fox Sports Radio. What's the next quarterback transaction, either

(01:39:59):
signing or trade that you'll be looking out for. Which
what's one we can expect coming up here sooner rather
than later. Well, I mean I'll go back to that
window that starts February if and ends March the six
case Kingom, you know the vikings first of all, the like,
he's got to get an offensive coordinator. I gotta get
that situated. But you know, do they transition or franchise
case Kingdom, there's certainly excuse the punt a case to

(01:40:21):
be made for doing so, especially given all the uncertainty
at that position. Um. So that that maybe the next
domino to fall. And you know, right in between that
window is the Combine. And that's when you know, the
Buffalo Bills are not going to give Tyrod Taylor six
million dollar roster bonus in March, so you know, can
they get can they make a trade for Tyrod? Um?

(01:40:43):
You know, that's when the market for Kirk Cousins will
really crystallize. I believe it will come down to the
Jets and the Broncos and all likelihood. Um but you
know that that will know much more coming out of
Combine about exactly what his market is and where he's
likely going. U the Drew Brees thing that could happen
at any point as well. I mean, nobody thinks he's

(01:41:05):
going anywhere. Do they just go ahead now and give him?
You know, I don't. I don't know what that number
ends up being somewhere between twenty five and thirty million
a year for two or three years, and you guarantee
the first two years and you call it a day,
so you know, well, we'll see, we'll see which one
is the next to actually fall. But it could be

(01:41:26):
that some sort of tag placed on on case Keenum
Geez locking Forward joining us here on Fox Sports Radio.
He's Jonah Stocks, I'm Dan Buyer's were for Doug Gottlieb today.
You mentioned the Kirk Cousins likely coming down to Denver
and the Jets. What is going to be the ultimate
decision there? Is it just money or is it going
to be more than that for Cousins? Uh? Well, I mean, look,

(01:41:47):
it's if one team has significantly more on the table
than the other. If that's how it turns out, then
they're kind of telling you how much they want you.
They can make the decision for you. But I don't
think that. Certainly it's not the factor, but it's naive
to think it's not an overriding factor. Um, all things
being equal, then you have to assess the situation. You know,

(01:42:09):
where are these teams in their h cycle and their progression,
you know, is as Denver peaked and maybe actually is
gonna have to keep tearing it down the next couple
of years. You know, the Jets kind of already did
their their tick down, right. They went through the uncomfortable
stuff with David Harris and Nick Mangold and Darrell Reeves
and Brandon marshall right and Ryan Fitzpatrick, and they kind

(01:42:32):
of stripped it down and we're better than people fought
and and are they on the upswing? And you know
where is Damarius Thomas at this stage of his career?
What what are he and Emmanuel Sanders like to deal
with is that, you know, are they declining assets who
were going to demand the ball? But you know, maybe
don't run you know, crisp routes anymore. And there's a
lot to sort through. Um. And look, if you've got

(01:42:53):
to Denver as a big money quarterback, the expectation is, well,
last time John Elway did this, right, they played into
Sue for Bowls in one one. When is the last
time the Jets have had an above average quarterback, like
not even a great one. I mean, Pennington's right, but
it was a couple of years and you were waiting
for his shoulder to fall off. I mean Richard Todd like.

(01:43:15):
So if he just goes there and gets him to
the playoffs a couple of times, just does what he's
done in Washington, then I think people he's a hero.
So you know, we'll see where that thing goes. But um,
I actually think on a lot of levels that the
Jets from would be better for me than the Broncos.
Jason Locking for a CBS Sports NFL insider with us

(01:43:35):
here on Fox Sports Radio. So you have a column
up at at CBS sports dot com right now on
the Josh McDaniels fiasco that took place between him New
England and Indianapolis. What is your overall assessment of that situation.
I mean, it's unfortunate. Um, it's it's uh, it's going
to be a blight on Josh's resume or career or whatever,

(01:44:00):
um for quite some time. And it's something that a
lot of people in the league will always sort of
hold against him because all you really have is your
word and that's supposed to carry the day, and and
he did back out of a deal. But as we
get further from it, I also think that people this
stuff happens in Hollywood. You know, you've got financing falls
out of a movie. Somebody backs out of this. This

(01:44:21):
actor has a contract, but you know, gets cold feet,
doesn't want to spend three months filming in South Africa,
bails on the project. I mean, it's it's it's not
out of the question. I mean, Bill Belichick did the
same thing twenty years ago. Worked out pretty well for
him in the Patriots. But I do think it makes
Josh radio active with other clubs for a while. And
in all honestly, I think he's gonna end up replacing

(01:44:42):
Belichick anyway. I mean, oddly, it could be a win,
win win. I mean McDaniels could end up replacing Belichick.
We'll see how that goes. But he's got a couple
of years to find a replacement for Brady um. So
the Patriots is a massive win. They're the biggest winners
of all because they had no next man up. There
was no you know, Brian Flores on the offensive side

(01:45:02):
of the ball, who was ready to do it the
way Flores is ready to step in for Patricia. They
were they would have been looking in mid February trying
to find you know, maybe second rate guys to come
in and run their offense, and that's less than ideal.
And oh, by the way, Tom Brady has only had
three coordinators Charlie Weiss, Bill O'Brien and uh and McDaniels
the only one to have that that title. He expects

(01:45:23):
a certain degree, you know, of acumen from his coaches.
So the Patriots is a huge win for them. They
keep arguably the best offensive coordinator in in the world
in town. And for the Colts, look, it stinks right now,
but I think Chris Ballard looked strong and resolute at
that press conference. I think if the guy in his
heart of hearts didn't want to be there, you'd rather

(01:45:45):
find out, as much as it stinks to find out
in February. Rather find out in February than July or
August or September or next January. And you know who's
to say that Frank rych or Dan Campbell or whatever
doesn't do a decent job there. Again, it's sub optimal,
but there you can always get a coach. I mean,
nobody's talked to Jim Schwartz. I can't figure that out.
He got got one interview. He did a heck of

(01:46:06):
a job. I know what things got rough against Brady
and the Super Bowl, but you know you can get
a guy, so I don't. I don't think it's the
end of the world for anybody, Jason, And at that
point we'll leave there is with the most amazing thing
about the Eagles run. Remember it was like in week
four we had heard the Jim Schwartz is trying to
overtake Doug Peterson and but like that storyline was completely
lost in what the Eagles season has been. It was

(01:46:28):
such a roller coaster and maybe with the parade today
and what Jason Kelsey did, perfect way to put a
bowl on the season. And Jason, thanks so much of
the time, and we'll do it again soon my pleasure.
Thank you Jason Lacking for a CBS Sports covering the NFL.
Danna do you want to tell you online car shopping

now you can know the exact price you'll pay for
your next cars. A visit True Car to enjoy a

(01:46:50):
more confident car buying experience. I don't know if this
is a huge breaking news, Dan, but this comes courtesy
of the official Twitter account of the Iron Cheek who
has weighed in, and he says, breaking calves trade everyone
for three shish kebabs. Okay, that that also was um

(01:47:11):
Before that, The Iron Cheek, from his official Twitter account
said the following, breaking Calves trade everyone for a bleeping cheeseburger.
So the Iron Cheek has weighed in on the NBA
trade deadline. Folks, We've got all the relevant names here
on Fox Sports Radio. Plus uh, a prominent NFL insider
has called Dan Buyer out on Twitter. Okay, if that's

(01:47:32):
not teasing up, I don't know what to tell you.
So we've got a prominent NFL insider who called out
Dan Buyer via social media on Twitter. We'll tell you
who that is next year on Fox Sports Radio. But
for all the latest from around the world of sports.
Deb Carson alrighty, let's start with that trade deadline. A
couple of players who are staying put. Kimba Walker will
stay in Charlotte. Clippers did not trade DeAndre Jordan's, however,

(01:47:55):
completely different roster for the Cleveland Cavaliers. They have acquired
Jordan's Clarkson and Larry Nance from the Lakers in exchange
for Isaiah Thomas Channing prying and protected first round pick
in eighteen George Hill and Rodney hood Head to Cleveland
and a three deal of three team deal with the
Jazz and the Kings. So Jay crowder Derrick Rose Head
to Utah, Iman Schumpert Joe Johnson second round pick Head

(01:48:20):
to Sacramento. Cavaliers also sent Dwayne Wade back to the
Heat for protected second round pick Nuggets, Nicks, and Mavericks
were part of a three team trade that sends Emmanuel
Moody Moody A There we Go to New York, Devin
Harris to Denver, and Doug McDermott to Dallas. Nix and
Nuggets also swapped second round picks as part of that deal.
A couple of big notes in the NFL, The forty

(01:48:41):
Niners and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to a five year,
one thirty seven million dollar deal, seventy four mill of
that guaranteed. Also some breaking news, Dural Revas once again
a free agent, maybe for good this time, we'll see.
The Chiefs have released Reevas. He'd signed with Kansas City
in late November, playing in six games, including the Chief's
playoff loss to the Titans. Only started two of those games.

(01:49:03):
But if he was still on the roster at the
start of the league year, he would have been guaranteed
about ten million bucks between his roster bonus and salary.
I thought he actually quit when he didn't want to
tackle Derrick Henry. That's actually what I thought. He you know,
it was the end of Darrell Reeves. But oh man,
that was that was It was surprising when he came

(01:49:23):
back into the league. You're like, oh, and then you
see what he had laughed and then he said, uh, yeah,
it seems about right. Thanks dev So Dan, listen, I'm
not here to spread bad news. That's the last thing
I want to do. But somebody has called you on
on so well, you know, our good friend Bucky Brooks
as tweeted that we and I'm not quite sure Bucky

(01:49:46):
Brooks at the NFL Network and also does shows here
on Fox Sports Radio and cruise him as an as
an insider. But Jonas and I were taking the Clay
Travis bit from a little earlier when Clay said that,
you know, ego aside, why should Lebron James take a
max deal because it's easier for him to should I say,

(01:50:08):
build a team around him, would that be the case,
But then Bucky compared to NFL quarterbacks and why no
one says, hey, NFL quarterbacks should take less. Well, Tom
Brady did take less. And I don't know if Bucky
is maybe calling out Clay Travis or if he's falling
out you or myself. Definitely not me, but it's it's
a Jonas Knox and Dan Buyer and we'll get to
John Romilson a bit. But the fact is is that

(01:50:30):
this did happen in the NFL, and Lebron has actually
taken less in the NBA before, so I don't I'm
not sure quite where quarterbacks are immune from this, because
we actually have seen them do things too, specifically Tom Brady,
to make the Patriots able to feel a better team
around here. I just want to make this clear to

(01:50:51):
Bucky Brooks, who's one of the top NFL draft analysts,
uh one of one of my favorite media that covers
the NFL, because I think he's he has really interesting
points and he does good work. He's been doing it
for years. I just want to make this clear that
was not me who said anything about anybody taking a
pay cut. And I have good reason for that because
I believe that Bucky Brooks may work out at the

(01:51:13):
four Hour Fitness in Sherman Oaks here, Dan and I
don't want to be near the preacher curl machine and
turn around to have Bucky Brooks put me in a
darks choke because it's something I said. So I don't
want to deal with that. So I'd just like to
point out, and I'm not here to throw anybody under
the bus, but the man who you're referring to, who
called out Lebron James for that in a very disrespectful way. Uh,

(01:51:36):
that man is. This guy doesn't get any better than this.
I think it's the John Ramo Shows, the John Ramo Show,
Ramo Show, This is the John Ramino Sports on Box.

as always, I have my side kicked Ryan back here
with me. Ryan, Let's get it started. John, great to

(01:52:42):
be back. Let's do it. As always, the big news
of the day is the trade that sent Isaiah Thomas
from the Calves to the Lakers. Wow. I did not
see that come to me either, And I have to
tell you I'm a little jealous of Lebron James. Why
is that? Well, everyone knows Lebron like Isaiah, and he
got him traded. Yeah. So what I've been trying to

(01:53:04):
get you traded for years? Savage? What are the best
NBA trades that didn't happen? Find out next on The
John Rama Show, Fast, curious and fun, exciting family game.
All you try to crazy and when you do, you

live career and everything in between. Also, we have a
John Rama Show exclusive everybody something you won't hear on

(01:53:53):
any of the show in the country radio or TV,
or see on any website or blog. Who deserves more credit?
Tom do your Bill Belichick. You won't believe who I pick,
But right now I'm gonna give you my top three
trades that didn't happen. Three. I can't believe the Warriors
didn't trade Kevin Durant. They clearly don't need him, and

(01:54:14):
let's be honest, he's completely overreach. Two. The Charlotte Hornets
should have sent Julian Stone to the Denver Nuggets for
Tory Craig. This was a no breath In my opinion,
I'm shocked it didn't happen. Who the hell is Tory Craig.

(01:54:36):
The Orlando Magic should have gone on gone all in
on trading for James Harden. They could really use a
player like him. It's time for you to hear the
It's time to hear from you, the listeners, And we'll
do that next on The John Ronald Show Show. It's

(01:55:02):
easy to make. It's a voice reference. Everybody giving up
with the sexiest spent alive break shout Blake Shelter. There
we go. Let's hear from Blake Shelter. Who's what did
the voice this season? Blake, don't worry, we'll talk about

(01:55:23):
that before the end of the dre it are in
depth interview also coming up. I see your tweets out
there and your emails, and everyone's been asking for it.
I'll give you the best gift ideas for the Valentine's
Day for your ex wife. Oh my god, here's a hint.
It's not lingerie. But right now it's time. But right now,

person under six ft to ever step on the court.

what's gonna have Mark live out there the soap box.

using the same phone in the editors room sound. It
sounded exactly like the phone in the editor's room, which
is weird. The one guy who started laughing at his
own takes. I thought that was that was that was
great as well. Can I just say one thing before
we go? Let me guess hashtag show. By the way,

(01:57:42):
did you know that Blake Shelton's real name was Breake Shelton.
I didn't know. I didn't know that either. That was
new to me. It's it's a new one that you've got.
I guess he goes by both names. How's Gwen? How's Gwen?
So beach? I thought that's what he said, yea somewhere.

car So to get us caught up the press with
what's happening in sports today, and I'll sell to fill
us in on what's happened in movies over the last
few years. Hello, guys, Hey, the Cavaliers are the team

(01:59:37):
that made the most noise on NBA trade deadline day.
Raptors were relatively quiet, But despite all the moves by
Cleveland and Toronto being relatively silent, Toronto and Cleveland are
both with twelve to one odds to win the NBA Championship.
According to Vegas, that's amazing because I still thought people
would think, well, Lebron James is going to straighten this

(01:59:59):
thing out. And now there's just as many people who
believe that the Raptors actually have an opportunity to get
as far as the Cavaliers, that is something that I
never thought that we would see. Now if if do
you buy my theory though, that the Cavaliers organization is
kind of at the front office is stepping back saying listen,
we've done everything here. I mean, we fired GMS coaches, players,

(02:00:23):
We've traded, we've gotten young, we've gotten old, we've brought superstars.
If this doesn't convince the guy, how much more can
you lay down? Yeah? I think if they really wanted
to convince him to stay, they would have tried to
get DeAndre Jordan's or they would have tried to get
Kemba Walker. I don't know if the guys that they
gott that that caliber, So that's why I just think
I think they looked at it as more like, how

(02:00:45):
can we not hurt our future yet still have make
it look like we're trying to make a pull. A
couple of the deals we didn't talk about today. The
Magic traded point guard Elfred Payton to the Sons for
a second round pick, and the Nuggets traded Emmanue all
Moodier to the Knicks. Is part of a three team
deal that includes the Mavericks. Dallas gets Doug McDermott from

(02:01:05):
the Knicks and a second round pick from Denver. Denver
gets Devin Harris from the Mavericks in second round pick
from New York. I also think Orlando got um a
to pay to be named later in that. Yeah, I
was gonna say a good deal. Is he the guy
with that rooster hairs? Got like that at a wind
sock on his head that blocked? Yes, Yes, that was

(02:01:27):
the hair do the the hair do on Alfred Peyton
plays better defense than Isaiah Thomas. There's more blocks this
season than he than very bizarre hair. I've never seen
hair like. We do have two bits of breaking NFL news.
One after probably hearing us talk about it. Nick Mangold
has tweeted he will not be running for Congress. Tweeted

(02:01:47):
this afternoon, I am not running for Congress. While it
may be an amazing opportunity in honor to serve the
people in New Jersey's District eleven. I am not at
a place where I could commit to that. I've got
breaking those I will not be running tonight. I'll come
or jogging or even walking. Speaking of walking, the Chiefs
have given the veteran cornerback Darrell Rivas is walking papers.

(02:02:10):
He signed a two year deal back in November with
the team, played five games plus the playoff loss to
the Titans. He is out because he was going to
do about ten million bucks in salary and roster bonus
if he was still on the roster at the start
of the league season. You know, dev get ready to
send out that internal breaking news email because Kendrick Perkins

(02:02:32):
has announced on Twitter that he is back or Instagram
one of the two. But that's really going to tilt
the table there in the championship running there as the
Cavaliers are bringing back Apparently Greg Oster tag wasn't available.
You can't play scared, maybe Sam Perkins Okay. Spring training

(02:02:52):
camps open in about a week in Florida and Arizona.
Many free agents are still unsigned. Earlier this week, the
MLB Players Association said they were going to have a
spring training camp for the free agents to help them prepare.
But Scott Boris's clients will not attend. They will attend
boris facility. He's got a couple of sports fitness institutes
with diamonds, cages and weight facilities to make sure his

(02:03:14):
players are prepared. When they're signed. You know they're going
to play their first game at some beach. That that's
actually I expect. I expect and I'm calling it now.
I expect J D. Martinez, you Darvish, and Eric Cosmer
to be under contract at this point next week. Yep.

(02:03:36):
A little bizarre though, like this whole waiting game and
the fact that you think teams because somebody was talking
about collusion, is there some collusion going on? You think
teams are like, you know what, we're sick of Scott Borris,
let's go ahead and just take our foots off the
gas pedal for a little bit because we don't want
to get out. That was the press. Yeah, I don't
think they want to get in the race anymore. I
just it's the look, look at the big contracts that

(02:03:59):
have just worked out in baseball. It's pretty much all
of them so far. By the way then, as conditions
on the field change, so can your insurance needs. Talk

whether your policy is game ready. Find an agent at
