Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports and Boom Johnny b k
R addition as college football. Oh my gosh, we've just
given birth to college football season. How gorgeous is this
baby boy or this baby girl? Oh my gosh, we've

(00:24):
given birth to a D five FBS schools as Yeah, yeah,
there it is. Look it's already screaming. Man. College football
comes with us tonights as the college football season. I
don't care what last week was that Oregon State, Colorado State,
whatever they did in Australia, b y u in Portland State, whatever.
This is the start of the college football season. And

(00:47):
I'll tell you what. Summer's over people. Okay, I don't
liberally weekend us here, but once when the college football
games start to count, see you later summer, Hello fall,
and hello football. I'm so excited to not talk baseball
for three more months. Let's bring in John for the
latest on the Justin Upton trade. John Ramos, oh man,

(01:08):
so excited by this. Shut it up. Then one of
the best players in Major League Baseball moving into the
California Los Angeles an him Angels. Gotta love it back
to you, guys. Yeah, great insights. As we By the way,
we'll have more on Major League Baseball an hour four
the program. This is unique for me, Okay as as

(01:30):
as someone who's a big fan of college football, and
I've followed Ohio State football for thirty thirty five years
of my life. They played an opening season game I
think years back against Wyoming that wasn't on a Saturday,
I think it was on a Thursday. But tonight Ohio
State ends up opening up against Indiana. You've got Oklahoma
State in action tonight, and then we've got a full

(01:50):
slate on Saturday, Sunday and Monday where heck one verses
three on Saturday night. You've got U c L A
and Texas A and M playing on Sunday. It's just
a great, great weekend of college football. And couldn't be
more excited. Yeah, it's uh, I didn't understand. I've always
talked about this, how grown up out here on the
West Coast college football. It's cool, but it's not really

(02:12):
that big of a deal, you know, like U C L.
A and USC It's it's it's a fun rivalry when
it happens, but there's not really like a rallying cry
from fans here in the Greater Los Angeles area to
go like, oh man, hey, who's team of youahn? It
just it doesn't have that same vibe. And then when
I I started working out in the South and I
was around SEC fans and A c C fans, and

(02:33):
I saw how passionate they were about it, to where
you go to any sports bar outside anybody's house and
they've got their team and their flag hanging up on
the outside of the house. Once I was around it,
I fell back in love with the sport because I
always grew up and I love college football, but being
around how crazy and fanatical certain fan bases are, in
particular being around the SEC in the A c C.

(02:56):
Gave me a whole new perspective on how great it is.
And ever since then, college football is one of my
most favorite things I look forward to in all the
sports coun What's unique is if you go to Atlanta
or you go to Nashville, and you go to some
of the big cities in the South, you really get
a mix of alums from different SEC schools. I mean Atlanta.
We know that Georgia's close by, so you're gonna get

(03:17):
a lot there. But there's there, there's there's people from
everywhere in the stay with Nashville when you're in Los Angeles. Yes,
it's a melting pot, but it isn't a melting pot
as you say, of college football pride and of your school.
It's different when you go to places where you're you're
mingling with maybe a conference rival and there's heck, even
in Chicago is a Midwest guy. You can You'll have

(03:39):
people from whether it be Wisconsin or Minnesota or went
to Northwestern Illinois or Michigan that are all working in Chicago.
I still don't think that you get that that true
field that the South does, but Los Angeles seems to
be disconnected by it. It is really just something special
of of this time of year and that people rooting
for their schools and you mentioned flags being out, whether
it beyond cars or on front doorsteps. It's a great

(04:00):
time and I'm excited for the games to start. It's
it's awesome and and we're gonna go ahead and we'll
forgive college football for what they tried to attempt last week.
You know, they called it a a soft release. You know,
like Dan, who's your favorite band? Um? If you if
you got to pick one, like I enjoy cold Play.
So what if cold Play opened up their set with

(04:20):
the worst song that they've ever done. That's what college
football did last week. They opened up their set this
season with the worst week of games you could possibly imagine.
When I'm looking on my TV screen and I'm saying,
wait a second, P O R S T. That's not
Portland's state. It's always a matter of fact, it is
Portland's state. Okay, Well, let me just go ahead and

(04:42):
tune right away from that and see if there's any
more pre fight buzz for McGregor Mayweather. Last week was
a disaster. I mean that that was that was embarrassing.
You you had last year. They had all the success
in the first week of the season where it was
Labor Day, and you had all these great games going
all the way through. Remember the app State game where
they I think they nearly beat Tennessee was the game

(05:02):
that they were in. And then you had you know, Alabama,
USC had a lot of buzz, and then you finished
up with Notre Dame in Texas. There were great games
all throughout last week and week one of the college
football schedule last year, and then they opened up with
that crap last week and it was. I mean, come on,
you know, like like double down on your success from
a year ago. What's interesting is it seems like it
was a spreading out of the schedule. You mentioned we

(05:24):
were talking off air Hawaii having the time to play
cal than having to go and end up playing a
road game against then they were I think in like
Luxembourg the next week. You know, it was an awful
travel situation. And I think that's what Stanford and Rice did.
I have no idea and why you would have by
you play Portland State unless b y U had difficulty
scheduling because they're not in a conference. There's also no

(05:46):
reason to have Oregon State Colorado State being played last week.
And when you look at the games that we've got
this weekend, there's the Marquee game there. You you can't
top one versus three except if it's one two, and
you've got that with Alabama and Florida State. You've also
got Michigan and Florida playing. You've got a game on
Sunday with Virginia Tech taking on West Virginia. So you

(06:07):
have ranked teams playing jonas. But what I will say
why this opening weekend is here is you're starting to
see a little bit more of the new college football
as well that being the Power five the Big Ten.
One of the reasons Ohio State is opening with Indiana,
aside from exposure and doing different things, is the Big
tennis down in a nine game football schedule for the

(06:30):
for the conference, so you've only got three conference games.
It was normal where Ohio State would maybe open with
Navy or Army or Bowling Green Virginia Tech. A couple
of years ago when when Bosa was suspended for that
game because Ezekiel Elliott's a crummy roommate, it was it
was there's ways that you can ease in. That was
my point. But Virginia Tech aside, but it was the
fact is is there were games you're like, Okay, well

(06:51):
it's the opening game. We'll play on the game in
a couple of weeks. But now what you're starting to
see is because the Power of five schools are scheduling
other Power of five schools to set up with the
playoff off, you're seeing, while it may not be marquee matchups,
you're seeing Maryland take on Texas. You're seeing Louisville take
on UH Perdue. You're seeing conferences going up against conferences
and you're gonna get more and more of it. And

(07:14):
while it may not be a full huge like game
after game after game like we had last year, I
think it's a really solid opening week of the college
football seas. You remember when Miami and Florida State and again,
if you grew up and you were a traditional college
football like college football back in the nineties was just awesome,
and like football in general was awesome. But remember back

(07:34):
in the day, those Florida and Florida State in Miami
games are always towards like the end of the year.
It felt like and like like both teams were ranked
pretty high. They were in October, yeah, okay, but but
later in the season and then and then all of
a sudden, a couple of years ago, they started doing
this thing where they would open up the year against
each other, and it was like, you know, like I
remember being in late like Labor Day and watching it

(07:56):
in at some crumby bar getting attacked by mosquitoes and Arleston,
South Carolina and thinking to myself, why is this game
the opener? Like why is Florida State Miami the opener?
And it just I didn't understand it. So Miami has
resolved the problem and they decided, Yeah, they decided to
open up this season against Bethune Cookman. So so, by
the way, tickets are still available at six bucks apart

(08:19):
going to the Miami BC game. College Revenge, A c
showed up. Let's do it. Let's do it. No um
about that. There's a reason we sold it to you
for five dollars. College football. UM Jonas has something that
I think is it's great and it's not Miami against

(08:41):
Bethune Cookman. And it happened over these last nine months.
The emergence of USC Alabama being a top that pedestal
Ohio State making it to the College Football Playoff in
some controversy, USC mean a University of South Carolina of
course absolutely absolu and now the defending national champion Mson.
There are now teams that you can dislike and hate

(09:04):
and root against, aside from just the Crimson tide in
college football, because for the last couple of years, I
really felt we were all kind of resigned to the
fact that Alabama was going to get into the College
Football Playoff and probably win. When's the last time Alabama
went into a game that we didn't think that they
would win. I mean, it's it's a long long time.
Now You've got these other programs, and you've got these

(09:27):
these schools that have Clemson's the defending national champ If
they lose, a lot of people are going to rejoice.
Alabama loses, people rejoice their USC now back to kind
of being the top dog. Even though Washington won the
Pac twelve last year, people expecting a lot more from USC.
If USC falls, that sort of angst and that sort
of hatred I think is also going to be back
in college football because it's much more of a storyline

(09:50):
and much more bigger storylines. Then well, Alabama win another
national championship. And that's why I think this season will
be better than recent ones in the past. And because
Clemson has done it so many years now, they've now
become sort of a traditional power. The first year Clemson
was around, I was like, okay, whatever, you know. It's
like the first year Butler got into the Final four,
was like cool, like who are these guys? And then
they got back there the second time, You're like, okay,

(10:12):
we can take them serious. Clemson's now got that reputation.
Dabo Swinny is now one of those top tier coaches
in college football. So you've got recognizable names there, Um,
you've got I mean that Alabama to open up against
Florida State. And I'll say this because a lot of
people look at that and they go, why would Alabama
be a touchdown favorite against Florida State? All that talent

(10:32):
Florida State has. That is purely reputation. What do we
always hear about, give Nick Saban enough time to prepare
for you and they'll figure it out. That's purely a
reputation line. And I'm curious to see how that game
turns out because I don't think if either one of
those teams loses the fact that they're playing this early
in the season, you can recover from that. You schedule

(10:52):
that later on in the year, you're screwed if you
lose that game. There could be an argument made. There
could be an argument made if Florida State goes out
and win the a SEC and Alabama wins the SEC,
that the loser would have more to play for in
the rematch. So like, if you win this game, maybe
you don't want to face that other team. Maybe you
want if Alabama wins, you want Clemson to win the
A sec you don't want Florida State in that bracket

(11:13):
because you just don't want to face him a second time.
As us standing on the sidelines watching and thinking of
those theories that could be a matchup or a battle
as well, or a storyline that we could follow. But
I just I'm excited. Even though Florida is shorthanded against Michigan,
It'll be a big game atmosphere, and then it takes
us through Monday as well with the the games that
they got on Sunday and Monday, including Tennessee and Georgia

(11:34):
Tech to wrapping it up on Labor seven thirty Eastern time, Danio,
Tulsa Oklahoma State. By the way, Tulsa Oklahoma State on Fox?
What is what is the over under on? That's gotta
be like seventy Oh my god, I don't. I don't.
I'm not really paying much attention to that stuff. Seventy
and a half. I don't. Again, but I'm not really
into the gambling aspect. That you will recognize a familiar
voice though during that game, who's that Brady Quinn? Alright? Alright?

(11:59):
Jonas go host on Sundays here on Fox Sports Radio,
texted him good luck earlier, Still no response. Facts what
a partner he is? John texted Susanne earlier. She still
hasn't gotten back, and that is true. She's she's looking
for the cat O. Come on Verne open up with

(12:23):
this weekend. That's a good question. Sure do they play
at the big REGU Carmine. Oh? Yes, college football is here.
Who is your college football team? John? Um, I like
to you. I like us U c l A. I

(12:46):
like that new laugh by John Well, that's kind of like,
you know, like put me on the spot. I definitely,
definitely but will be rooted for my alma mater, University
of Laverne Division three. Yeah, as Jonas d of alluded to,
they have the curly ellis their logoing there the way.
I will be cheering from my alma mater this weekend. Dan,

(13:06):
t g I Fridays spent four years there and at
applebea Yes, yeah, Applebee. That's a tough game to open
up with. It's a neutral site though, so it should
be it should be a barn burner, Dan, what is
what is t g I Friday's ranked preseason amongst chain restaurants.
I would probably say t g I Fridays is third
or fourth behind. I want to say maybe Chili's and

(13:28):
I think Applebee's is a two. But that two three
match up to start out the year. It's good stuff. Hey, Mike,
enough got any more? Oh gosh, Islands they open up?
Oh they're at Ruby Tuesday. Yes, should we do that?
Top ten chain restaurants and who they who they would

(13:50):
match up with? It sounds like good. Open it up
on Twitter. I'm at Dan by Rod Fox. You could
get Jonas at the Jonas Knocks and John at jas
Ramo Cereals six, Dan Buyer, Jonas Knocks here. Sorry, I
forgot that was my cute Here Fox Sports Radio in
for Doug Gottlieb. Here. You can listen to the show
on the I Heart Radio app and also on Sirius
x M channel eight three. Up next though, we are

(14:11):
going to tell you how one there's a league in sports.
It is a league of teams in sports that should
look very similar to one that you love to hate
several years ago. That's next year on FSR. This is
the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio. Yes, college

(14:32):
football is here. It is a b KR edition. He's
Jonas Knocks. I am Dan Buyer that is John Ramo.

(14:54):
Joining us to talk college football from College Football News
and a good friend of ours for joining the program.
Feutre kay Pete. Happy college football? How you doing? Happy
college football season to you too. It's all here now.
Explained to Jonason myself what the heck last week was
because it was just soft opening. So it was just
it was fine. You know, you have to just get
in the kinks out. You're making sure everything works fine,

(15:16):
and just you know, we're just getting easing our way
into it. It was kind of an okay weekend at
the end of the day. There were some few decent games,
but nothing Marquis. And you know, tonight's doesn't feel quite
like it yet because it's still Thursday and it's still August,
and it's kind of weird to have a big ten
road game with the number two team in the country
playing in it. But we'll get over at fast as

(15:37):
soon as they kicking all off. It's going to feel
the part feel like college football against a pete last week?
Which game just be honest, we're not even on the areaet,
but which game? Which game did you find least interesting
on the schedule out of last weekend? Um, I want
to see maybe Portland's state b y you just because
I thought b YU was going to blow them out.

(15:58):
But you know what's weird, It's kind of a part
of our you know, media world at this point, is
that part of the problem is, you know, when you
have a slate of games and on any week, even
like tonight, we're nine of the fifteen games, or FBS
versus FCS, you're kind of going to the strength and
numbers thing where you say, okay, well a lot of
these are gonna be complete dogs, but there's gonna be
one or two games that are gonna be kind of

(16:19):
interesting that you'd kind of like to go see, and
you know, it's kind of hard to find them unless
you can really kind of figure it out. And so
last week the Hawaii you mask game was phenomenal. It
went down to the wire for the second year in
a row, last second touchdown path and it was seen
nationally by about four people because it was on something
called the eleven Network, which no one knew where it was. Hey,
I wanted to watch card Sharks and b y U

(16:41):
in Portland State were on on the Game show Network.
It was just like, what in the world is going
on here? Okay, my hotel room I was in didn't
have Colorado State Oregon State have CBS Sports Network, So
uh here I am being that guy watching it on
my phone in the lobby because I'm just, you know,
that kind of geeky football person. Pefezack to College Football

(17:01):
News joining us here on Fox Sports Radio on the
Doug gott Leap Shows. It's a b KR edition today,
let's talk about Alabama in Florida State. We just made
the argument that really, as great as this game is
to start this season, it may have no effect on
what we get at the end of the year because
of Florida State and Alabama both end up winning their conferences,
they're likely in the College Football Playoff. But what excites

(17:24):
you about seeing one versus three on Saturday night. Yeah,
I'm not as sold on that. I mean, it's it's
an easy way to think about because obviously the loser
of this game, especially if if Alabama loses this game,
it's probably in better shaped in Florida State is because
if you look at the rest of Alabama schedule, it
just doesn't look that bad until you get to uh
Auburn game on the road to end the regular season.

(17:44):
Whereas Florida State, if it loses this, there's probably at
least one other loss along the way out there, and
then you get into the whole theoretical argument. Okay, well
do you count losing to Alabama, then you've got to
assume Alabama's Alabama. Uh So, I'm not really sold. This
is the first of two meetings between these guys, uh
especially if there's a blowout on one side or the other.
The the key to me and this whole thing is
ken Florida State be physical enough. They've got the same

(18:07):
amount of NFL offensive talents. In fact, you might even
have higher end offensive NFL talent uh than Alabama has.
Certainly that secondary is amazing. They should all be playing
in the NFL right now. Uh So, But the thing
that we're not really talking about. Is that both Scarborough's
back for Alabama. You know, if he's back to form
and he's that power back that we saw against Washington

(18:28):
and the first half against Clemson. I don't think Florida
State's physical enough, tough enough on the lines, as talented
as they are to be able to hold up. If
just Albama says you know what, you know, we're just
going to the number one and we're just gonna just
pound this ball until you can stop us. Because we've
with new offensive Cordner Brian Dable, I think they're gonna
just do more ground and pound. They're not gonna get
too flashy about this. They've got Jalen Hurts, they've got

(18:49):
both Scarborough. Let's run it and see a Florida sty
can stop it. Pete. A few years back, the SEC
was the land of the rock star coaches, and I
think it bled over to the teams where you had
Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, Les Miles and Steve Spurrier,
and then you had Lane Kiff in there for a
short time. And now I'm looking at the big ten
and you've got Jim Harbaugh and you've got Irban Meyer
and you've got James Franklin, You've got p J. Fleck.

(19:12):
Now D'Antoni is still D'Antonio is still there. Has the
Big Ten become the modern day SEC? Yeah, and then
Wisconsin and Paul Chris, who's good dude, but you know,
probably the you got the personality of a Flora lamp
has probably end up winning this thing. So, uh, it's
it is, you know, but the SEC is still the SEC.
Part of the issue with the SEC is it's still

(19:32):
has rock star coaches. They're certainly getting paid like it,
uh and that, but the expectations are through the roof.
So you still have Kevin Sullman, who is still considered
a you know, a high end, you know coach, either
you know, it's somebody in the NFL or some other
program with this doesn't work out certainly, butch Jones is
a main character. Will must Champs the main character. And
you've got some you know, big name guys in the SEC.

(19:53):
But yeah, you're right, the Big Ten, especially in the
Big Ten East, is certainly full of rock stars. And
you've got Harbor versus Urban. You know, you've got two
of the three biggest coaches in the sports, you know,
and you know, in terms of name recognition and all
of sports. Uh So it's kind of hard to not
you know, see the Big Ten is you know, not exciting.
And you know, the thing that people forget it's that
college football is not like the NFL. It's so regional.

(20:15):
It's so about that part of the country that you
are in. And the big part about the Big Ten
is it's got more of a national reach than the
SEC does. The SEC, as much as you know college
football fans might like it, it's not as big as
SEC fans think it is. And so the Big Ten,
because of the media markets, because it just takes up
half the country, is just bigger overall, and Michigan and

(20:36):
the House State are bigger and urban and Jim Harbaugh
are bigger and also factor in the with all those
SEC teams, a lot of them playing the same state
with an a a SEC school as well too. Almost
it's just at the end of the day, it's Alabama,
you know, and yes there, it's not like there's a
media market there, you know, And that's kind of the problem.
Last year, as amazing as you know, Alabama and Clemson
were on a national scale, it's still South Carolina and

(20:59):
it's Alabama. So it's not like you have you know,
it's not like l A if USC is rocking and rolling.
It's not like the whole state of Ohio if Ohio
is doing its thing. It's just, you know, it's hard
to kind of get that major media, you know, the
lack of media markets rolling when you're you know, in
New York City or in other parts of the country
with biggerman areas. I don't mean to correct myself for
jonas is Pete few Tech joins us, but the SEC

(21:20):
is no longer the SEC. Remember, it's the premier conference
in college football. It's the premier conference in college football. Peaks. Okay,
the only team we seem to be talking about is
not the defending national champ or the team that has
the Heisman Trophy winner. We're talking about Florida State. Let's
talk about Clemson, and let's talk about Louisville teams that
try to carry over success from last year into this year,

(21:41):
and Boston College the n VC. But how much of
a carry over are we gonna see from Lamar Jackson's
Heisman campaign to this year? And how does Clemson rebound
without Deshaun Watson. Well, First of all, it's addressed the
elephant in the room. Boston College had better show up
against Northern Illinois obviously. Yeah, that's the big market game
of the weekend there is you gotta think that. I mean,

(22:01):
I think that's gonna be without the you know, Manzel effect,
without being all Manzel. I think you're gonna have the
same problem for Lamar Jackson, where he's probably gonna have
the same year. He's probably gonna be his magical. The
offense is going to be fantastic, he's going to be outstanding,
and he's not gonna win the Heisman because you're gonna
have a lot of you know, keepers of the flame
out there are gonna want to make him a two

(22:21):
time Heisman winner. I would be shocked if he's not amazing. Again,
he's just that great a talent in his offense. Is
that good Bobby Petrino is that good a coach? Uh.
The part of the problem is that Louisville, you know,
kind of what the bed over the late part of
last season and so uh now they're not quite a
sexy is like maybe an NC State who looks like
it's about to come up with a big season or Miami,

(22:42):
who looks like it's about the rock and roll in
nearly division under Mark Rick and Clemson. You know what, Yah, Yeah,
you don't get better by losing to Shawn Watson and
Wayne Gallman and like Williams and Jordan Legan, all those
guys who are the stars of the show. But everyone
kind of forgets that, you know what before them. Everyone's
trying to figure out, Okay, how do you replace TODJ Boy,
how do you place Sammy Watkins? How do you play

(23:02):
smart Tavis Bryan, how do you play all that talent
that remember blew up Ohio State uh in a bowl
game a few years back. And the other thing is
Clemson sort of at that sort of Alabama Ohio State
level of reloading. They've had to replace their defensive line
like the first time they haven't had to do in
a couple of years, and they had to completely replace
it three years ago and went to the National Championship,
and obviously last year wasn't a problem. So I kind

(23:24):
of don't think Clemson's gonna take a step back, if
at all, Just so they don't say we have a
East Coast bias, even though we're located in Los Angeles.
USC will win the PAC twelfth South. There is peach
College Football News. We touched on the Pack twelve. You
can't say we didn't beat. Enjoy the games tonight. I
know Saturday is the day that you wait all summer for,
so enjoy it. We'll do it again soon. Washington's win

(23:45):
the Pack twelve. Look at that's a little dig to
the rib cage from Fetis. And then in fairness, I
did say just Pack twelve South. So with USC, we're
not getting correcting Pete like that. How could you? Well?
I think he was doing the add on, Wasn't it
that was? It was just was adding that Washington's gonna
win the whole thing, you know, chiming in and I
just said the PAC twelves the godfather of college football

(24:06):
and dig in College College Football News dot com. Check
out Pete and plus get him on Twitter at Pete
check that's f I U t A. He is Dan Byro.
I'm Jonas Knox in for Doug Gottlieb here Fox Sports Radio.
You can always listen on the I Heart Radio app
as well as on Sirius XM channel eight three. Up next,
they could have a quarterback battle in the NFL that

(24:27):
nobody expected. It's gonna be a big deal coming up
later on tonight. But for the latest on a potential
ruling in the NFL that could impact one of the
top teams, Here's deb Carson. That's right, Jonas, that hearing
is completed. Talking about the appeal hearing for Cowboys running
back Ezekiel Elliott his six game suspension on the line.
It's finally wrapped up. Started on Tuesday, lasted twenty five

(24:50):
hours all the testimony in front of arbitrator Harold Henderson.
A decision is expected by Monday. Baseball News Fox Sports
Ken Rosenthal reports that the Angels are close to completing
a deal to acquire Justin Upton from the Tigers. Astros
won their claim on Cabin Maybon Phillies have claimed one
Nicasio from the Pirates, and in the NBA news, the
Lakers have been find five hundred grand for violating the

(25:11):
NBA's anti tampering rules, stemming from that complaint by the
Pacers regarding Paul George and guys. Finally, we can put
a bow on that mega deal between the Celtics and
Cavaliers involving headliners Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas. Boston has
agreed to sweeten the deal, sending Cleveland an additional draft pick,
a second rounder. So, for those keeping score at home,

(25:32):
Boston gets Irving, Cleveland gets Isaiah Thomas, j crowder Ante
Zizich a unprotected first round pick via the nets, and
that second round pick in I can't confirm this dead,
but I think Boston also threw in the Cheers T
shirt where everybody knows their name. Yes, yes, very well done.

(25:52):
And about Isaiah Thomas's hip now apparently, oh boys an
thomas is comments about his hip by the way, it
sounded so much just looking forward to free agency. Nothing
about being playing, you know, with the calves or anything.
It's just like I'm gonna be fine because I'm gonna
be a free agent a year from now. That's what
It's had, a potential career changing injury. I wouldn't mind
having that. And I don't know like South Beach, but
you have to go on the mend in. Cleveland's got

(26:15):
a double trouble, you know, especially with that that owner
and then questioning his heart in addition to his hippen Yes,
I saw the drama the NBA. I thought it was
gonna end in July. It never ended up happening. It's
actually overtaken some of the big stories in the NFL
that we've had with the training camps and whatnot. The
training camp stories jonas that have developed really ended up

(26:35):
kind of being non stories. Tom Savage the quarterback in Houston,
Shaun Watson didn't beat him out. Patrick Mahomes really never
had a chance. In Kansas City, Alex Smith was going
to be the starter. Even in Jacksonville where there was
an opportunity for maybe Chad Henny to get the start
over Blake Bortles, It's Blake Bortles in the end. So
all of these quarterback situations in the NFL really kind
of sorted themselves out for how we expected. Yeah, Nate

(26:57):
Peterman is another one. In Buffalo. There were some people
and Buffalo saying, oh, well, Nate Peterman, what about him
taking over that job from Tyrod Taylor? And then I
had a Niner fans who would be tweeting me in
the weekend overnight saying, hey, but you're not talking about c. J. Bethard. Yeah,
and I'm not going to at all because the Bethard
Brian Hoyer quarterback battle never really came out to the

(27:18):
top of the list. Are gonna have Brian Hoyer as
their starting quarterback? News Shan Kaiser. Obviously in Cleveland that
was drama. But there are thirty two teams in the
National Football League and there are thirty one quarterback battles
that have been solved. That leaves one team that we
still do not know. And I put the Bills Tyrod
Taylor with the injury is different than an actual competition

(27:39):
that what we've had with the Chicago Bears, because we
still don't know entering tonight's preseason finale on who the
Bears will actually have as their starting quarterback in Week
one of the regular season. John Fox has had this
let me keep everything a secret, And I think part
of it was when Mark Tressman and Phil Emry were

(28:00):
on the show in Chicago. Before John Fox got there,
everything was an open book. I mean, you could go
to anybody and get dirt. Remember Aaron Kromer ripping j
Cutler to Ian Rapp report of the NFL network. I
don't remember that ever happening ever in the history of
the NFL where an assistant went to a national reporter
on the record and smashed the starting quarterback like he did,

(28:21):
and then he had to cry in front of the
whole team and apologize. You had. I mean, there was
some of the stuff that was coming out because it
was such a mess and it was an open book,
and and it made the media and their job in
Chicago a lot easier because all they had to do
was show up every day and something was gonna happen.
Either a guy was shoving an assistant coach down to
the ground and being named a team captain forty eight
hours later true story, or something was going on in

(28:43):
that locker room and John Fox and Ryan pacecot in
there and said, all right, we're limiting media accessibility in
practice and we're cutting off everything. So the media of
course got got angry with John Fox and was upset
with how they were handling things. Well, John Fox is
still maintained that same secret seat to where he doesn't
release his his his depth chart is always kind of

(29:04):
the same, doesn't really release the starters, keeps everything sort
of close to the vest. And now as the preseason
is unfolded and you're looking at this roster, especially the
quarterback position, and you realize, all right, the guy they
drafted is the best one on the roster, yet he's
still listed as third on the depth chart. What am
I not understanding here? And it's John Fox doing his

(29:25):
secrecy plan, But what we do know is that Mitchell
Trobinski is going to get the start on Thursday night
against the Browns and Mike Glennon is not going to play. Normally,
that would mean Mike Glennon's starts. But I have this
strange feeling that John Fox and maybe Ryan Pace and
the Bears look at me, look at Mike Glennon, and

(29:47):
go we already know what he is. Let's give Mitchell
another job. If he goes out and he plays really
well against the Browns, who are gonna have some young
players trying to make the team, some Comma kazees out
there try to get on an NFL roster somewhere, and
this is their last chance. If Trabinsky goes out and
he plays well again for a fourth straight game, then

(30:08):
the conversation becomes a real one about who's your starting
moving into Week one. And I think that that conversation
is more serious now that it was maybe three or
four months ago, just for the fact of when you
draft Mitchell Trobinsky and you've brought in Mike Glennon for
free agency. Who's one of the coaches that's on the
hot seat this season, and that's John Fox. And you
would think maybe John Fox would want to have a

(30:31):
guy that would be able to get the team two
wins play and say hey, we've got something going here. Well,
now it's the flip side of the coin, where if
you're John Fox and you're saying to yourself, you know,
if we have Mitchell Trabisky br starting quarterback and we
win six games this year, yes, that you're like, hey,
why wouldn't we stop this progress? We ended up growing

(30:53):
And it's a it's a complete opposite of how I
felt with the Bears entering free agency and with John
Fox's job possibly being on the line, is you're usually thinking,
we gotta win in seen, how do we become competitive
in Let's get the top backup quarterback in free agency.
Let's bring him in here. We got a good running back,
we have a decent offensive line, let's bring him in.

(31:13):
Let's do all this different stuff. And now you're saying, okay,
let's backtrack a little bit. If this guy over here
who we traded up for one spot to get actually
shows some promise. If they want to get rid of me,
it could almost stunt the growth of this guy that
could be our future quarterback for ten years. So I
think that John Fox, even in a job security and
I know that's not the bottom line, but as you're

(31:34):
looking at it as a whole, it could be better
for John Fox's job security to have Mitchell dru Whisky
start just because of the promise that could be instead
of a Mike glennon six and ten season. And then
you're like, oh, let's get in a quarterback guy to
work with Dr Whisky and go the rest of them.
You ever notice what people do with the lottery if
there if there's a big jackpot like the one that
was just out that was like seven million, everybody goes

(31:54):
to play. But if the jackpots only like sixty million,
I don't care, you know, like we all couldn't use
six million, Like, oh, I have no interest in sixty
five million. I'm waiting. I'm holding out for the seven million.
And the idea is, yeah, like like you want the
biggest upside, what's gonna be the most bang for your buck?
Everybody does it. So it's why I give Hugh Jackson

(32:15):
so much credit for what he did in Cleveland, because
Hugh Jackson was looking at brock Osweiler and he was
looking at Deshaun Kaiser, and he was thinking to himself,
all right, there's really not that much of a difference.
I still think brock ost Weather is probably more game
ready in the NFL right now. But what's the bigger upside?
You know what? What am I? What am I going
to get the most bang for my buck for? And

(32:35):
he looked at de Shaun Kaiser and he says armed, talent,
ability and future. He's a little bit of an unknown
of course, being a rookie, but he's got a higher upside,
a higher ceiling than brock Osweiler does. So so so
here he is Hugh Jackson saying, you know what, I'm
gonna play the seven hundred dollar million. I'm gonna play
the seven hundred million dollar lotto as opposed to the
sixty five million dollar one, and I'm gonna bet on

(32:56):
Deshaun Kaiser because I can get more bang for my
buck if I'm John Fox and I'm looking at at
Mike Glennan and I'm looking at Mitchell Robinsky who's got
more of an upside? Watch when they play the games.
Look at the throws Trabisky made. There's a reason the
Bears are so secretive about this guy. Leading up to
the draft. They knew something that nobody else did. They
held private workouts. Remember the whole story that came out

(33:18):
that John Fox didn't know the Bears were taken Mitchell Robinsky.
That was all a lie. Not only did he know
that they were seriously interested in Mitchell Drobinsky, John Fox
flew to Charlotte to work out with Trabinsky along with
Ryan Pace, Dal Logins and other members of the organization.
And when one of the other coaches on the field
asked John Fox what organization he was with, he said,

(33:40):
the Dallas Cowboys. They've known from day one this was
their guy. So the whole point of well, no, just
let's wait this one out. You know, give me a
break if you if the latter, if you know you
can win seven d million dollars with Mitchell Robinsky, because
it's more of an upside. What do you doing playing
scratchers with Mike Lennon? You know what you got with him?
What's the point? I think? I think Jonas also buried

(34:02):
the lead that they've forgotten Charlotte, that John Fox took
the Panthers to a super Yeah, that's the other thing, like, hey,
are you the same guy who at Jake delme As
you're starting quarterback? Oh by, how times have changed. But
we could see if Mitchell Trabinsky gets that starting job
tonight as the Bears wrap up their preseason against those
Cleveland Broms. He is Dan Buyer, I'm Jonas Knox. This
is Fox Sports Radio. We're in for Doug Gottlieb. Here.

(34:24):
You can also listen to the show on the I
Heart Radio app as well as on Sirius XM channel
Lady three. You can get me on Twitter at the

Next though, a U, a superstar in the NFL, just
took a shot at his own organization. We'll tell you
who it was next year. And that's a b KR

(34:46):
edition of the Doug Gottlieb Show. He's Jonas Knocks. I'm
Dan Buyer, and that is John Ramos. Love your feedback.
You can always reach us at Jona Now. Jonas is
at Reggae man Um sign Signed my Hockey stuck. They
had the Jonas knocks and um, John, do you want

(35:09):
to give out yours? If you know it's Thursday and
I feel like it's a day where you have to
kind of change things up a little bit off speed, Johnny,
so that change up at J. S Ramos zero saying, Wow,
that's simple enough. It's it's it's actually easier than just
the Twitter handle of Deb Carson, who's here to play
some games. Is it's game time? This is game time

(35:35):
on the Doug Gottlieb Show. We welcome Deb Carson as
we are. If you want to know, if John, if
you want to go with the John Ramos way of
a Twitter handle, your Twitter handle would be d car
zero four nine son one. Yeah, I'm feeling like a
bit of an underachiever. I just went with at Deb Carson. Hey,

(35:55):
you're lucky that you got it. I have some guy
who plays guitar that's at the Empire. What game are
we playing today? We are playing? That's right. We are
going to start with guess who just released his first
signature shoe earlier today. First, okay, it's got to be
a young young athletes and I'm thinking basketball. Okay, I

(36:20):
am going to say, Mark health folts Okay, Mark, he
I I'm gonna go, you know, I like Mark He Nope,
it would be sixteen year old high school junior LaMelo Ball. Yeah.

(36:42):
He released the MB one through Big Baller brand website
today and it can be yours for a poultry dollars.
And by the way, he's the first high school player
to have a signature shoe. But his dad, LaVar, says
he's not worried about the move affecting his college eligibility
because he's only verbally commit to attend u c l
A in two years. Obviously you've got to sign your

(37:02):
letter intent before that is legal. But LaVar says, quote,
maybe in two years they'll change the rule and he'll
be able to go to the NBA straight out of
high school. So he's high schooler and he's got his
own shoe. That's awesome. Yeah. I remember when I got
a new jam sport like my sophomore year. I thought
it was the coolest kid in school. Well, think about this.
The NBA or college basketball, if anything, is not going

(37:25):
to go back to allowing high schoolers to go into
the draft. It's gonna be two years to go into
the draft. So I think that the Ball family has
misjudged on this, and I will go out and say
I think that we are not trending to the fact
of that LaMelo Ball may not be eligible to play
at u c l A, which I think has always
started to become a question now at this next step.
I'm sure the n c double A has got a
file right now of taking notes and doing different things

(37:47):
to see if LaMelo Ball is even gonna be eligible,
because I remember U c l A has a big
sponsorship deal, or at least they had one with Adidas,
if I'm not mistaken, And I always wondered about this
that how would the big baller brand and affect those
guys going because you can't just cross out Adidas on
your jersey if you're going there to play, they sponsor it,
like Duke has always been a Nike. He's always been

(38:09):
a sponsor of Duke. So I've always wondered about that
how that's going to impact them moving forward at U
c l A. All I know is I'm saving up
for the Sarah Ramos soccer shoes. Yeah, when does your
daughter's shoe line come out? John? We started first game
of nine eight she's twelve. Okay, there you go the
Sarah Ramos. What about that Lucas lightsaber? Oh that's coming.

(38:31):
Hold on a minute. Yeah, alright, we're over one. Well,
moving on to the NFL. Guess who congratulated Steelers GM
Kevin Colbert on his recent contract extension. Oh okay, let's
say this will be good. Okay, who's got a good
relationship with the Steelers And I'm gonna go Terry Bradshaw
never had an incident with the Steelers. I'm gonna go

(38:51):
Terry Bradshaw. Oh gosh, I am going to say Mike Tomlin,
no trot jeez. Running back Levian Bell, who's been sitting
out the precincts because he hasn't gotten a long term deal,
tweeted today, congrats keV. This is the amazing thing. Lebean.

(39:13):
Bell's deadline to get his long term deal was in July,
so he's just holding out to not get hurt. So
to be like to be that petty along those lines
and also didn't want to be paid. Is also the
second best receiver in the NFL is just really absurd
to me. And so this goes along with the absurd
things as Levian Bell apparently is going to report to

(39:33):
camp tomorrow, is what he said. I also heard Marquette
King of the Raiders, the punner for the Raiders, Um,
he actually ran and got a first down last year
on a fake punt. It was sort of actually, I
think it was a botch punt. So during his next
contract negotiations, he wants to be the highest paid punter
and the fourth highest paid running back, so he would
like that as well. Wow, how they work that out

(39:56):
with the franchise tag? All right? Moving on, guess who
thinks with a little more training he could have gone
a full twelve rounds with Floyd Mayweather. Oh we know, yes.
Today he thanked his fans, he congratulated winner Floyd Mayweather Jr.
And he said, quote just coming back around the after

(40:18):
a whirlwind couple of days, and honestly, I feel with
just a little change in certain areas of prep, we
could have built the engine for twelve full rounds under
stress and got the better result on the night. That
engine also could have been on the mat in the
seventh round. I think if Floyd Weather really had his choice,
if Floyd didn't have money on the over of rounds,
it would have been over in about six rounds. Is

(40:41):
game time on the Duck Godly Show. Can we get
the LaMelo ball shoes somewhere? Yeah? Where can we go
to get that? Tell us that story? They said, like
you want to get him soon because I want to
go to that t J Friday's game tonight and Johnny

(41:02):
Ramos here. Yes, a b k R edition. All right,
let's do this on a where college football arrives. I
don't care whatever last week was whatever, Ohio State on
the road tonight against Indiana, Oklahoma States taking on Tulsa
in Stillwater. So it should be fun to get the

(41:22):
college football feverback. You're gonna get a bunch of on
on Saturday. On Sunday you got a couple of great games.
U c l A takes on Texas A and m
then Virginia Tech against West Virginia also playing, and then
on Monday, Heck Tennessee Georgia Tech. I went to a
Monday night game. This was this would have been ten
years ago, Florida State at Clemson on a Monday night

(41:43):
game on Labor Day, and it was one of the
best atmospheres that I can remember. The couple of times
when I went to college football and went to opening weekends.
That was That was actually one of the best that
I ever remember. I remember years ago on Monday Night,
I went to Monday Night Raw. Yeah, Ross, I've come

(42:03):
to a sporting about it. On Monday n my freshman
year in college, Wisconsin opened up the season against Colorado
and it was Rick new Heisl's first game as the
Colorado head coach and they were coming to Madison they
played the year before Buffalo. I'm not sure I know
that the Badgers weren't because they got run over seven. Yeah,

(42:25):
you weren't pissed about it. I care you know. It
was whatever it was. It was a night game, and
they came out in these new uniforms with the motion
W on the shoulders. They came out and practiced in
their usual Wisconsin uniforms, but it was this big deal
and all of a sudden, they come out of this
tunnel and they've got the new uniforms and the W's
on the shoulder and everybody's going crazy and then a

(42:46):
thirty six point blowout later the game is over. You
look back, Ray k Ruth got a touchdown in that game. So, yeah,
Rick new Heisl's first game and Ray Karruth caught a touchdown. Yeah,
quite a quite a season open. I remember about two
years ago and that was And see how I just
knew that like it wasn't because I was looking at
your screen. I just knew that I had to look

(43:09):
up the score. I knew it was a blowout. I
can give you all the details, but I couldn't remember
what the final was. Thirty six point blow John Romo, Guys,
you were talking earlier and I've been been getting a
lot of tweets about this. I'm just gonna say it
right now. Laverne at home this weekend against Puget. Sound
all right? Yeah, more like pu Things are more on
my cover, by the way, on the you know the information,

(43:31):
No it wasn't. No, no, no, no, no, it wasn't.
See let me explain it all right. Here we go
the explanation. So I was looking at your computer and
I saw on the bottom right there's the model number
of the computer, and there was in the model. So
that's how I knew that it was five. I didn't like,

(43:54):
I'm looking. All you have is your Twitter account. I
don't even see anything. John Ramos is making his mute
the Puget sounds side that he's going to have at
the game. Sign by the way, how many people are
gonna be at that Laverne Puget Sound game. I think
we see like five hundred. So if like four thirty
sounds like a good night? How much your tickets have been? Yes?

(44:16):
I have Yes. How much do they pay you? That's
not that's not true. We played good Division three football
at the University of Laverne. I think it's like ten dollars.
I want to say ten dollars. Cal Lutheran where the
Rams practice. Cal Lutheran is uh like five minutes from
my house in Thousand Oaks, California. And asked me how
many clus how many Cal Lutheran football games I've been to? Dan?

(44:40):
How many games have you been to Call Lutheran. I'll
give you a hint. It's the number right before one,
right down the road. My entire life. And if you
ask me, all right, you got to go to the dentist,
and also you need to go get your physical or
you can go to the CLU game. All right? Can
I book those dentist appointments back to back? Can we
do those? Jenny zero football stinks? He maybe you could

(45:05):
become a fan of Puget sounds. They're going to be
in our backyard. Yes, it's a home game, all right.
Here's the problem though, what's on the Laverne schedule of
Laverne Leopards. Well, they've got the early buy, it's already
next week. However, that does give them two weeks to
prepare for Whitworth. So road game at the Whitworth Pirates.

(45:27):
Isn't it j G Whitworth or something? It's not like
inded cash now. I think that's when, yeah, whatever, all
the fans go into the game on a bus singing
with each other. I need a good team now. The
Lakers may need money from J. G. Wentworth five thousand dollars.
They were fined by the NBA today for tampering with
Paul George. But what we need to know here, and

(45:49):
what you need to know, is that it wasn't because
of the Jimmy Kimmel appearance by Magic Johnson, that whole
clip of the wink wink in the ha ha heck,
let's hear what happened when Magic Johnson was on Jimmy Kimmel.
What constitutce tampering? Like if you're on vacation and you
run into Paul George. Are you not allowed to speak
to him? No, we're gonna say hi because we know

(46:09):
each other. I can't say hey, I want you to
come to the Lakers, even though I'm gonna be wink
winking like so funny, Jock, you call a doctor. My
side hurts him, laughing. Oh man, Irvin, Irvin, you stopped. God,

(46:38):
that's right. It's a By the way, Vincent Price's brother
Mark played for the cat He did the NBA the NBA.
The NBA ended up telling the Lakers, Okay, you can't
do that magic. That's not why they find him. They
actually had to give them a warning afterwards. Instead, it

(46:59):
was new g him Rob Linka, who made contact with
Paul George's agent. The NBA is saying that the contact
quote constituted a prohibited expression of interest in the player
while he was under contract end quote. So that's why
the Lakers were dealt the five hundred thousand dollar fine

(47:20):
for tampering with Paul George, which, by the way, is
worth every penny because now Paul George has no desire.
There's no way he is going to go back to Indiana,
which really in my mind, Jonas would have been the
reason why he wouldn't have gone to the Lakers. The
Pacers could offer him the the amount of money that

(47:41):
maybe he desired, that maybe because of the roots that
he had there, that he would want to stay. But
if it's worth five hundred thousand dollars to get the
Pacers to trade Paul George, because Paul George then went
out and said, I'm not gonna be here long term.
You know what, Lakers money well spent. Okay, money well
spent by the Lake years being fined five what a

(48:02):
non story? Man? You know what this is? You ever not?
Like you've noticed the Calves and Celtics were able to
work out the trade yesterday and then uh and then
they were able to figure out what they were going
to do with the Lakers tampering. So you know what
this is? This is the NBA tying up their loose
ends because they realize, oh, it's football season. Yeah, we're
irrelevant for the next couple of months. So let's go

(48:22):
ahead and tie all up our loose ends now and
get this all stored away. I call I call bs
on it. I want to see them actually right. The
check for five grand and I want to see the
NBA actually take that check for five grand I don't
think they got fined anything. This is a is a
public statement. There's no punishment involved. It's a bunch of bs.
I'm not buying any of it. Well, I just don't
think that this punishment is anything to an organization. They'd

(48:46):
be they'd be more hurt if you said you have
to take away two Laker girls, that that would be
a bigger punishment than paying than having the franchise bay
five hundred thousand dollars to free up Paul George from
the team that he was with, who's now on a
different team. There's only there from six months in a market.
Jdas that you beg that Kevin Britchard said, well, let's
just deal him to a garbage place or a place
that we think that you won't like, no offense, Oklahoma City.

(49:09):
So let's just send him to the Thunder and guess
what now the Lakers could say, welcome home balling about
nine months. By the way, you want to punish the Lakers,
make them take back Swaggy pe right, you want to
really punish him like this is what? What? What a
non story? Russell what a non story. And oh we're

(49:30):
gonna we're laying We're gonna lay the hammer down on
the Lakers. Yeah, where's the check? I want to see it.
I really want to see it. I want to see
them actually have to pay five thousand dollars because of
tampering with Like, there's no tampering that goes on ever,
you know, Like, do you think Lebron James and Chris
Bosh and Dwyane Wade just all of a sudden one

(49:51):
day in free agency several years ago, said Hey, why
don't we just all play together because it's a great idea.
Hey you guys got those intro ready? Oh yeah, this
will be great. Yeah. I think we just decided. Come on,
there's always some sort of tampering that goes on, whether
it's called out or not called out. If anybody was
complaining about the Lakers tamper, wasn't this was this Indiana

(50:13):
doing this? Y Yeah it was Indiana. Get over it,
all right, get over it. You had a guy, you
moved him. You didn't get enough back. Now you see
what you could have gotten back. Looking at what Boston
and all the other picks and trades that were done
around the League. Where move on, get over it, stop
crying about it, and start building through whoever that center
is from Texas that you have Miles Turner, I joke about,

(50:35):
joke about the Lakers and the Laker girls. But if
you were to take away uh to Taco Night after
you score a hundred points and say like no longer
you can you do that? Because of this, more fans
would be mad than the five thousand dollar five? Do
they still do to Taco Night? I don't. I think, well,
we don't know because they haven't scored overall. They should
do it by if you allow one and forty points

(50:56):
and then you can get to Taco Now where the
tacos from? Jack in the Box? Oh? God right, you might, right, Johnny,
I believe it was Jack in the Box. Jack in
the box you ever had? Okay? By the way, yeah, John,
where are you waiting? Ready? Really sound that one out
on the air there? I say it is Jack in
the box is opposed to John in the Box. He

(51:18):
says it Jack in the box as opposed to Jack
in the room. Apple bees, Um, the two Greek tacos
are for the one under points that Jack in the box.
Is there something that you've never done in your life
like that. If you like something off the top of
your that you've never done in your life that you'd
be curious to see how it would go. I'm just

(51:40):
just like off ther Um. I've always wondered what it
would be like. The skydive. Okay, I don't think I
can do it, but I've gone skydi Yeah. Um did
the plane you go up on? Yeah? And the weirdo
on your back when you're in the middle of in
the middle of the air and he's doing this thing

(52:00):
and you're like, I can't breathe because my face is
getting swallowed. That's not fun either, because I'm trying to
watch what the other guys doing to my girlfriend in
the middle of the sky over that I've got no
excuse me. Here's one thing I've never done that I
would love to do. I would love to eat jack
in a box sober okay, because I have never done that,
never once in my life. And I got news for you.

(52:21):
You look at one of those tacos left over the
next morning that you pass out in the middle of
don't score Hunter points, please please never score Hunt points again.
It looks like there's dead rats in there. It's not good.
This this fine take away, a draft pick take away
something I don't know what you could do? And yeah,
it ring Seriously, it's what a waste? All right. He's

could find out what other people in your area paid
for the same car you're looking for and on average
save over three thousand dollars off M S r P.
Whether you're looking for a new or used car, because

(54:55):
a true car to enjoy a more confident car buying experience.
One of the most confident people on our network because
he knows his stuff because he played thirteen years in
the NFL. Joined just now on the program, or good
buddy from salam Hey from how you doing? I'm good man,
how you're doing? And we are doing well. I'm gonna
start off with the NFL and the preseason. Give us
the best part about the final preseason game for a

(55:19):
majority of the players that are gonna be taking the
field tonight, what's what's the highlight? Because his fans were like,
let's just bring the regular season on. Is there anything
beneficial for the players out there? Well, yeah, well we
got two sets of players, two groups of players. You
got the guys who aren't playing, who love the last
preseason game because they don't have to do anything but
the hot dogs or the sideline check out, the checkout,

(55:41):
the ladies in the stands or whatnot. And then you
have the guys who this could be their livelihood. This
could be it. This could be to determine if they
will make this club or another club. Because even if
if there's not a spot on the team that you're
actually you know, now all thirty two teams are all

(56:03):
thirty one other teams watch the film, so they'll look
at guys and see how they perform and if they
need it, if they need someone or need in that position.
If you performed up to the best your ability, you
can get a job that way. So this is their
last dress rehearsal. This is their biggest audition because they'll
play the bulk of the place. When you're established in

(56:23):
the league. How boring is that final preseason game? Like,
I mean, yeah, so what do you do because you're
probably not gonna play And I know you mentioned, okay
you eat hot dogs and all that, so but at
a certain point you can only have enough hot dogs,
and I doubt the women are that hot in the
fourth preseason game. So what what what do you do? What? Look,
I'll tell you what this for some pretty hot ladies
up there now, I mean football is still football. They

(56:45):
follow the money anyway. Uh, you just you're pulling for guys.
You've You've built relationships for guys on the team, young guys,
maybe undrafted free agents or late round draft picks. You
gotta remember I was one of those late round dastick.
You know. I played in the fourth preseason game my
rookie year, and its inevitably the way I played in

(57:07):
that game got me to start out um Uh in Atlanta,
and in um I was told, hey, look, Corey Lucci,
he's gonna start the game. You'll play the second quarter,
he'll play the third, you'll play the fourth, and whoever
plays the best is gonna start next week opening Day.

(57:29):
So that's all I needed. All I needed was an
opportunity here. It was a high price free agent they
brought in to play right tackle and in the seventh
round draft pick, and myself had an equal playing field.
They just left it up to whoever played the best,
and that's all I needed, And of course, inevitably I
ended up playing better in that game and getting the
starting job, And that was the beginning of me starting

(57:53):
for the first ten years of my thirteen year career.
E from Salim joining us here on the Doug got
Leave Show on Fox Sports Radio, Dad Buyer, that's Jonas
knocks in for Doug Gottlieb. Today, we touched on the
bare situation earlier from and the reason we touched on
it is because it's the only starting quarterback job that
we officially don't know for week one? Will it be
Mike gun and will it be Mitchell Trabinsky? What are

(58:15):
the players? Do the players know? Do the players have
any sense? If they don't know? Are they being kept
out of the loop? Is that beneficial for them? How
are those players dealing with the situation in Chicago where
there's been no official starter named? Well, the in terms
of players, they don't know. They won't know until they
decide to management coaching to decide what they want to do.

(58:39):
And it has no bearing on them. Both of those
guys that came in, they you know, they played well,
well enough for it to be a competition. But I
will tell you this organizations, coaches GM they like to
go in favor of the young guy. So both players

(58:59):
are plane well, are the same, then they'll go with
the young guy. Look at the situation in Jacksonville. Both
of those quarterbacks are awful, but they went with They
went with the young awful instead of the older awful. Right,
because with the young awful, are the young player do

(59:22):
you still have some potential and then some upside. So
if you've got two quarterbacks, two quarterbacks and one being
a rookie and he's performed well in the preseason, and
you got a guy you brought in, gave a little
pocket change too, and it just look at what happened
to Seattle, right, Seattle pay Mike plenty two million dollars
and Russell Wilson and camp. They were like, all right, well,

(59:42):
we ain't gonna do that now. You know, we're not gon.
We're gonna Russell Wilson is clearly the best, the better player,
so we're gonna start them. And real organizations make that decision.
They don't, well, we're gonna check it out and see.
Real organizations who want to win and be good they
make that the and they said, hey, look this young
guy came in, showed us everything we needed to see. Yeah,

(01:00:04):
we paid this guy some money, but we're gonna let
it the young guy. Like I said, it happened to me.
They paid Corey Luke a bunch of money to come in,
but I outplayed him. And you know, it's very rare
in today's NFL. Back when I played, it was the
best eleven on offense and best leven on defense. Now
you've got politics, you got salary, you got all kinds
of stuff that goes into that. So I would go

(01:00:28):
with Tabiscuit. He shown me enough. Uh, they obviously liked them.
They had private workouts, they moved up to get him,
so they obviously like him. So just go ahead and
go with him. From Salam with us here on Fox
Sports Radio. Your first year in Houston was David Carr's
last year in Houston, and there's always the cautionary tale

(01:00:49):
of you don't want to throw a guy into soon
because it could impact him later on and maybe he's
not ready for it. When you got to Houston and
David Carr was finishing up his time there, what did
you see out of a number one draft pick, a
potential franchise quarterback at that stage of his career, who
had been battered for so many years? What did you
notice about David Carver you got there, I noticed that

(01:01:09):
the previous administration didn't help him, didn't hold him accountable.
You know, if if you look back and think back,
everything was pointing to what the offensive line. They can't
do this. They can't do that. What a lot of
people didn't realize. Now, the offensive line wasn't it wasn't
up to snuff, I can tell you that. But what
they weren't realizing was David. David would get two or

(01:01:32):
three sacks a game himself by bootlegging and running out
of bounds behind the line of scrimmage. That's a sack.
Two people, they don't realize that. That's a second. If
the quarterback rolls out of the pocket and goes out
of bounds behind the line of scrimmage and instead of
throwing the ball away, that's a sack. So if you
get three of those a game for sixteen games, you

(01:01:54):
know what I mean. So a lot of people didn't
understand that he was he was allowed to do things
like that until Ry Koupiak, who was an offensive coordinator
who was a quarterback in the league for twelve years.
He came in and I remember one game, I think
David had like three or four of those, and he
really laid into him. He really laid in him and
Chester Pitts, who had been there since day one. He

(01:02:15):
was their second round draft pick, and with the inception
of the team, he said he looked at me. It
was like, no one has ever talked to him like that.
No one has ever It was never his fault. It
was always somebody else's fault. And I don't think David
could handle that because up until then, David was having
a pretty solid year. Uh, and then the wheels just

(01:02:36):
fell off there like he had been doing things his
way and had so many bad habits for so long
that once somebody checked him. Once Gary checked him, was like, yo,
look you're held accountable for that. Throw the ball away.
I don't care about your passing rating or your percentage
of completion. Throw the ball away and let us live
another day. And you know, those were some of the

(01:02:57):
things that David would have been doing and getting away
with that. He wasn't allowed to do that anymore. And
it didn't It didn't end well for him. I could
say that, how much did the offensive line resent him
for that? What a bunch of guys didn't know? Like
they had a bunch of people, veteran guys who really
didn't care. They had some young guys who would who
would come into the league and was learning from guys

(01:03:20):
who didn't really care. They had Tony Tony couldn't play
because of his shoulder, so he was always rehabbing. So
if the culture wasn't the same. And when Gary got
that job, he called me and I was in Jacksonville time.
He said, hey, look man, I got the the head
coaching job in Houston. I want you to come and
I want you to show these young players not only

(01:03:41):
how to playing this his own scheme, but how to
play as a unit and play together. And so that
was one of the jobs, being a veteran at the time,
that I was tasked with and changing that offensive line.
And we did. We changed the whole culture. UH. The
first year I started there in old six, I think
we gave up forty seven sacks. The next year we

(01:04:03):
was all the way down to twenty seven, you know.
So we had really changed the culture and and and
got guys believing in the system. Easy from Salam thirteen
year vet in the NFL. I'm gonna let you go
on this one from what are your thoughts on what
you've seen over this last week with UH. I mean,
you obviously played in Houston and the devastation that's happened

(01:04:23):
with Hurricane Harvey. Have you talked with any former players friends,
and family down there and on what the situation has
been over the last week. Yeah, I have, and it's horrific.
You know. I uh years ago when I was in Houston,
it was a hurricane hit and my wife and I
we we wrote the hurricane out and I can tell
you right now it's one of the most I mean,

(01:04:46):
it's so hard to put into words because number one,
all the powers out, everything is pitch black, so all
you can hear is the magnitude of the storm outside
and you're inside your home, and then the flooding happens,
and you you really feel helpless. You really feel how
small we are as the human race when it comes
to Mother Nature and natural disasters, because no matter how

(01:05:08):
much money you have or where you live, it doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter. And you know, I've reached out to
guys donated and I'm talking to some guys now about
going out and UH helping in the relief efforts, helping
to distribute some of the uh some of the products
and the money and the resources that you know, people

(01:05:29):
like jj Wat what he's been able to do has
been tremendous. It's I mean, it's been phenomenal. I've never
seen a player attack a situation and have that big
of a response. Uh So, you know, my my thanks
goes out to all those people who donated and other
people around around the country who have been, you know,
starting up go fund mes and and but I want

(01:05:51):
to get down there, and I want to get on
the ground, and I don't want to do the manual stuff.
I want to, you know, try to help the situation
because Houston has meant so much to myself and my
familys He from Salam or two might here on Fox
Sports Radio and of course a thirteen year in the NFL.
You can get him on Twitter as simple as from
Salam thanks you from We'll do it again soon, no problem. Uh.

(01:06:12):
He is Dan Byron Jonas Knox him for Doug Gottlie
Pierre Fox Sports Radio. You can always listen on the
I Heart Radio app and you can find us on
Sirius x M channel eighty three as well. Up next
here on Fox Sports Radio, it is it is back.
Something you've been waiting months and months for has finally returned.
We'll have that for you next. But first, before we
get to that, we have some news out of the NBA.

(01:06:34):
Not good news for one franchise. That's right. The Lakers
have been fine five hundred grand for violating the NBA's
anti tampering laws. That stems from a complaint by the
Pacers regarding Paul George. L A g M. Rob Polenka
was found to have had contact with George's agent after
the team had already been worn following the Magic Johnson
TV appearance. Meanwhile, in baseball news, the Angels have acquired

(01:06:57):
slugger Justin Upton from the Tigers. The Astro has acquired
Cameron maybon Off Waivers from the Angels. Astro has also
just reached the eighty win mark. They beat the Rangers
five to one in St. Petersburg, so they can now
head home to Houston to check out what their families
are going through. Twins had their bases loaded, Max Kepler
hit by a pitch, Twins with a walk off courtesy

(01:07:17):
of that hit by a pitch, five four winners over
the White Sox. Twins of now won four straight, Reds
beat the Mets seven to two. Dodgers of last four straight,
and they trail the Diamondbacks to one Arizona bottom of
the second and finally, guys J. J. Watts Houston Flood
Relief Fund has now raised more than ten million dollars
to help the victims in South Texas. His original goal

(01:07:37):
two hundred grand. That's what a lot of folks with
big hearts can do, right there. A true superstar effort
from a superstar. It's it's just amazing to see on
how it's grown over these last couple of days. Is
depth set. It started out at two hundred thousand, then
I went to a million and two million, and J J.
Watt when the game was still on, they're still in
training camp practices. He's taking time out to do these videos,

(01:07:59):
can and doing continuing to raise the goal every time
Ellen chips in a million. Now it's up to ten million.
Great job by J. J. Watton and everybody who even
if you contributed a little, great job. Some of the
numbers on that, Like you've been to Seattle before, so
it rains a lot in Seattle, I mean, that's what
it's known for. And Seattle last year got I think
a little over forty six inches of rain year long,

(01:08:22):
and Houston got over fifty inches, over fifty inches of
rain in up three or four days. Unbelievable to beat
that city, Yeah, it's I have no idea, and you know,
and even was talking about as well, there's no power.
There's I'm seeing videos of people in their home when

(01:08:43):
you have like the the electricity, like you never know
what's going to happen. I know that the power is out,
but yeah, it's just it's awful us right. You can't
put it into words. I just I have no idea.
And there's there's times when you're maybe you're on the
road just I just want to get home. These people
can't even go home because home is just destroyed, you know,
And you never realize how bad it is until you're

(01:09:03):
in it. Because I remember being in in a South
Carolina and there was like right below a tropical storm,
but it was getting close to where it could develop
into a tropical storm. And I was going to go
run out and do some araita, It's just some rain,
big deal. And I got in my truck and I
went a couple of blocks and I said, yeah, I'm
gonna go ahead and wrap things up and go right
back around. And I'm not gonna attend to because you

(01:09:24):
really you can't comprehend how devastating and how powerful that
Mother nature can be at those times until you get
into it and you and you look around and like
we have I know, I have a friend, family friend
that lives in Houston, and they sent a picture of
their home and their home up there's about maybe four
ft until the roof and they're just I mean in water.

(01:09:49):
It's crazy. It's crazy how much rain and what the
damage has been done there today to that city of Houston,
University of Houston and U T. S A. University of
Texas at San Antonio not playing this Saturday. To see
a bunch of stuff on Twitter about the Houston Cougar
football players helping out with the blood relief. There is
college football tonight and there will be a bunch Saturday,
even though they aren't going to play that game between

(01:10:09):
you A. T. S A and Houston. The top five
teams of the countries are set there in the country
are setting. We've got a showdown actually on Saturday of
one versus three. But we figured since we are in
for the for Doug Gottlieb here on the Doug Gottlieb Show,
it's a b K r udition. That's John Ramos, he's
Jonas Knocks, I'm Dan Buyer, that we would do our
own version of a college football preview. Okay, this is

(01:10:31):
a top five college football preview looking at what you've
got is the best teams in the country. Okay, and
I want to say thank you very much to new
intern Shelby, who, within thirty minutes of our internship already
providing content for the show. Yeah, as we were talking

(01:10:51):
about the college football preview, she goes, why don't you
guys put in some of the Vegas odds? You know what, Shelby,
We're gonna do that, and that's why. And it's good Shelby.
You got a gambling problem. You're in the right place here.
There's a lot of those around these parts. The right
music said, can you get pew Check on the phone?
Shelby dialed Gambler. So that's how things started out with

(01:11:13):
her internship. All right, college football preview. Jonas and I
preview the top five in college football. Let's start out
with the number one team in college football and Alabama
twelve the five odds in Las Vegas, according to Bovada
to win the national championship. And I think Jonas might
take on Alabama. We know how good Jalen hurtses. We

(01:11:34):
know about both Scarborough in their running game. We also
know about Calvin Ridley, but you lost O. J. Howard,
you lost other wide receivers on the outside. That's my question.
Outside of Calvin Ridley, does Alabama have enough to beat
you through the air if things don't go well on
the ground from the Crimson Tide this year. As great
of a recruiting class as Alabama continues to have, and

(01:11:55):
and as the legendaries Nick saban is, I've said this
from day one regarding Alabama, and a lot of people
may not agree, and that's fine, but I will continue
to say this. If Alabama is trailing, when the clock
stops and time has expired on the game, They're not
gonna win. Daan. Let's move on to Ohio State, the
second ranked team in the country according to the Associated

(01:12:15):
Press Vada has them listed as a thirteen to two
favorites to claimed college football's national championship. So much has
made about J. T. Barrett. How is he going to
get the ball to his playmakers like Mike Weber. Victor
Benjamin is a new wide receiver that played a little
last year. kJ Hill another guy that could try to
take some of the spot and some of the heat

(01:12:36):
that Curtis Samuel had last year. My biggest issue with
the Buckeyes jonas that secondary. Remember Mallie Cooker was the
first round pick, so was Marshawn Lattimore. Ohio State's got
to figure out how that back into the defense is
corrected after so many guys left for the pros last year.
As the Buckeyes are ranked second of the country and plus,
scheduling is everything when it comes to college football and
whole and Ohio State looking at the latter part of

(01:12:58):
their schedule, they've got a really difficult matchup late in
the year against that one team. Moving on to number three,
it's Florida States. The Seminals ranked third in the country.
You've got to figure out a way to replace Dalvin Cook.
I don't care if you're fifteen, the two favorites to
win the national championship. You've got to figure out a
way to get that running game going without Dalvin Cook,

(01:13:19):
who was by the way, much more than a runner,
also a great pass catcher out of the backfield, had
some big plays for the Seminoles. Jock Patrick and freshman
Cam Acre Is gonna have to fill that role. If
the Seminars want to make a push to college football's
national championship, and they say defense wins championships. That's cool.
Number four USC. Okay, Favada has USC as the favorites

(01:13:47):
six to one. Okay, six to one favorites for USC.
That's the second best odds at all of college football,
even though the Associated Press has them ranked fourth. USC.
You mentioned schedule, Joan us. USC will have no buys
on their schedule. They actually play a straight schedule and
will end the regular season in mid November in a

(01:14:08):
game against u c l A. But there's gonna be
no breaks in between. If they get to the Pac
twelve title game, which I think they will, then you
can have a week off between that. But USC is
gonna have a straight schedule that includes, you know, matchups
with Notre Dame. We we mentioned that u c l
A game. USC is gonna have a straight schedule this year,

(01:14:28):
something they're gonna have to navigate on their way to
a national championship. Yeah, it is, and I think the
most difficult part for being a USC football players. When
you wake up on Game Dane, you're excited and you're
ready to go, and you feel like you're prepared, really well,
and all of a sudden you pull up to the
venue and you realize, oh god, we're still playing at
the Colisseum. Not a good look for USC. Clemson asked
to figure out a way to replace Deshaun Watson, Well,

(01:14:51):
Kelly Bryant to it. Well, I'll tell you what Vegas
doesn't think. So, according to Bravada, that Tigers have the
wealth best odds to win college football's national champ be
a gymp at eight to one. Replacing not only Deshaun
Watson is Kelly Bryant. But you've got to figure out
who's gonna take Mike Williams spot. There are pieces at
Clemson offensively that could be lacking from a year ago.

(01:15:11):
And I think the most intriguing storyline about Clemson a
lot of people look at and go, what are they
gonna do without Deshaun Watson? Forget that, what are you
gonna do without Ben Bulware when he's groping men from behind?
And finally, let's go to our Mountain West insider, John Ramos,
what do you like from the Mountain West Conference this year?
I like everything there. It is your college football preview

(01:15:32):
on The Doug Gottlinde Show. A V A R edition. Yeah,
at Fox Sports Radio. So when you go to work
tomorrow and you talk about the Mountain West Conference with
your buddies around the cooler, you're gonna be informed. Take
what Jonas said about the USC or Ohio State. You
are now informed for the college football season ahead. Steal
those takes. Everybody you know who you are, Steal him.

(01:15:55):
Good luck, Chuck, Dan Buyer, Jonas knocks in for Doug
Gottlieb here Sports Radio. You could always listen on the
I Heart Radio app as well as on Sirius XM
Channel A D three. If you have any issues whatsoever
with that segment, you can tweet us at j. S
Ramo zero six. That's where you can file all complaints there.
Up next, though, on Fox Sports Radio, we have an interesting,

(01:16:17):
interesting scenario that is playing out in the world of football.
One of the most talked about head coaches hasn't really
done anything yet. Find out the very latest next year
on FSR a b KR edition. I'm Dan Buyer that

(01:16:37):
showed us knocks. He is Johnny Ramos. We are in
for Doug today and again, yes there will be a
John Ramo show. Okay, it's forty minutes away. I'm getting
so many questions on at Dan Buyer on Fox there,
like when's the John Ramo Show? Why did that music
suddenly stop? What is gonna happen with Liberte in college football? Okay,

(01:16:58):
I wish, I wish you had all the ants is,
but I just do know. I do know that the
John Ramos shield comes up in forty minutes. Oh that's
what a coincidence. My nap comes up in forty minutes too.
Just because Doug's not here doesn't mean that we change
things up totally because at this time during the show
we like to play again, does that usually go over

(01:17:21):
Doug when he's talking? Was does that imaging usually happen?
I like when it just really tightens up on Hey, hey,
oh I know I'm here every day. And Matt Leiner
today was on the Herd with Colin Cowhard here on
Fox Sports Radio, and of course you can see them
see him on Fox Sports one. And the topic jonas

(01:17:41):
of college football is obviously being talked about because we
know Collin's a big college football guy, and Matt does
the college football work on Fox throughout the season, so
they're gonna be talking about college football. Plus he's a
Heisman Trophy winning quarterback from USC. Why wouldn't you talk
college football? Of course, topic of conversation came up today
on that coaches, and specifically Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

(01:18:03):
I have no problem with the antics because that's him.
Jim Harbaugh's quirky, he's different, he's he's a little off
the rocker. I think we all know that. But he
is a great college football coach. What I said was,
I think at some point, you know, you gotta beat
Ohio State. At some point, you gotta win a Big
Ten championship and get into a college football playoff. That's
the expectation in the standard at Michigan. Again, this is

(01:18:24):
only his third year, and if you remember correctly, we
were doing the preview show against his first year at
Utah two years ago and we had the whole show
was about how many years will take to turn this program?
They won ten games, and I thought this team they
lost to you talk, I thought this team win five.
So he's a fantastic football coach. But as we get
into this year, maybe the next year, he's gotta beat

(01:18:45):
Ohio State. You know, he's got to win a conference title.
And that that's the expectation. Yeah, and I'll tell you what,
when you're paying him the amount of money that you are,
when only Nick saban Is is making that kind of
money in college football, Yeah, you have to beat Ohio State,
and you have to get the football playoffs, and you
have to win national championships. And realistically, Jonas, I don't
know if they were playing what do Dan and Jonas

(01:19:06):
say on the herd? But we've had a similar conversation
in the past, where what has Jim Harball really really
done during his time at Michigan. And when we talk
about great coaches in college football with Hardball, we can
because he was was there, but we tend to take
what he did in the NFL and carry it over. Sure,
he turned around Stanford, took that San Diego program and

(01:19:28):
lifted them two levels that in that division you wouldn't
you didn't normally see. And now you've got a Michigan
program that he took from the they weren't good. They
he lifted that program up. Yes, but when you look
at the resume and you look at BCS wins or
college Football playoff wins, I pointed it out, there's one
Orange Bowl and that is it on Jim Harball's resume

(01:19:51):
as a college coach, and I think there's times he
gets a free pass for the success or maybe lack thereof,
that he's had during his college stop. I will get
them credit though. They've got a really difficult schedule this
year because last year they only had four road games.
They've got five this year. So I will give Michigan
credit for really going out of their way to make
it a difficult road to get to put hopefully the
college Football Playoff. But and the other thing too. If

(01:20:13):
you're if you're a Michigan fan, you know this to
be the truth. Okay, you know this deep in your core,
whatever you want to believe, you know that Jim Harbaugh
doesn't stay places very long. You know that it's about
four years or so and then he's either burn it.
He's either burns the bridge, or he decides he wants
to go somewhere else. It's either this year or it's
next year that you get it done on a big

(01:20:34):
level and you get to that college football Playoff. Because
I'm telling you right now, if something happens in Indianapolis
with Chuck Bogano and that job opens up, you're telling
me Jim Ursay, with as nutty as he is, wouldn't
offer ten million dollars to Jim Harbaugh to come coach
at at Indianapolis and coaches former college quarterback. You better start,
you better start showing signs of improvement. And and let's

(01:20:55):
let's just go ahead and fast forward all the way
to the end of the season. Ohio State Michigan is
a Fox game, and let's just get it done with
man like, let's do a best of nine, we do
best of nine, just skip the season and let's get
right to it. They do have a showdown with Wisconsin
that they're going to have the week before. It's a
back to back tussle. And maybe as you as you
look at it, when you're looking at the calendars, Penn states,

(01:21:16):
you know, sitting there over he remember last year when
when Ohio State and Michigan were playing in that double
overtime game, Penn stated to just sit back and wait
to find out what was going to happen, because Michigan
controlled their own destiny. So they did up to that point.
They just didn't get it done. And I know Michigan
fans will point to pass interference calls and fourth down
spots and screwed. And I know you were all into that.

(01:21:38):
You were saying that Michigan got screwed last year, and
I was telling you, listen, Dan, I know you're a
Michigan fan, but I think Ohio State really won that game.
Your point on him leaving when he was hired, I
said three years. I said three years is what it
is going to be. And this is the magic year.
Whether they go to a Rose Bowl and playing the
College Football Semifinals, whether they go and playing the the

(01:22:00):
title game, whether it's a they win a national championship,
whether they go to the Outback Bowl. I think that
this is it for Jim harbaught Michigan. The jobs that
we have connected him to, to the NFL. You mentioned
the Bears where he played, the connection with the Colts
where he also was a player. Both of those spots
we don't know about the future of their head coaches.

(01:22:21):
This is just everything is in line for Jim Harbaugh
to maybe make that move after this season when you
look at the other credentials of the coaches that are
around him for what they're paying, whether it be Dabas
Sweeney's new contractor Nick Saban or Urban Meyer. The results
just don't end up. And also, you know how many
Michigan players got drafted this year. You know they had
pretty good teams, right, Yeah, he didn't recruit all those guys. No, no,

(01:22:42):
So this is yeah, very very big year. They've got
a big one on Saturday against the Florida Gators. Not
as big though as John Ramos's Laverne team taking on
Puget Sound Boom, Yes, back with you. He is Jonas Knox,
I am Dan Buyer and there's something missing Johnny Ramos

(01:23:07):
completing a b k R edition Glad to have you
with us? Is the college football season really kicks off
this weekend. A couple of games tonight, including Ohio State,
ranked second of the country, on the road against Indiana. Yeah,
big ten showdown to start their season. Nine games schedule
in that Big Ten conference allows this to happen early.
And then you've got a showdown in the great state

(01:23:28):
of Oklahoma, Tulsa taking on Oklahoma State tonight in Stillwater.
Just what's your appetite? What's your appetite for? What's on
tap this weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. As college football
as well, we are jacked up about it. We're also
jacked up about the NFL preseason Bye bye, see you later.
Coming to an end tonight, jonas Is there will be

(01:23:50):
fifteen games, not sixteen. Texans and Cowboys canceled, so fifteen
games to wrap up the NFL preseas. It's kama Kaze
night in the NFL, dan Oh, a lot of guys
trying to get jobs, a lot of guys trying to
either get signed with their current team or another team
around the league, and it's kamakaze time. This was when
Mark Sanchez got injured. Because guys play with reckless, abandoned

(01:24:11):
they got nothing to lose. Is their last crack at
making a roster, and so they're gonna be firing on
all cylinders. I will say that Mike zimmer I read
it sweet that he wants to play his starters tonight
in their preseason finale, but isn't going to Why in
the world would you want to play your starters. I
know that the forty Niners made them look a little
silly at least earlier on Sunday, at least maybe at

(01:24:32):
least the forty Niners were looking somewhat good in that
preseason game. There's no reason, no reason to have anything
that you're gonna see numbers out there that on uniforms
that you had no idea existed on your team tonight. Hey, Mike,
you're starting quarterback. Last year his leg almost fell off
in practice and nobody touched him. Why would you want
to risk anything going into this season? Stop? Is he insane?

(01:24:56):
What is? What's the point? That's a competitor. That's my
that's my college coach at a depth. That's a competitor
of Mike Nimmer. That's what it is right there. I
just came up with a new character that's only gonna
appear randomly when we're in for Doug. It's a coach,
he talks about it. It's a competitor right there. I
like that kid. Hey, I got a got a tough
question for you. What's that? What's that? I'll give you

(01:25:18):
a list of three. I gotta tell me which one
you want? Okay, give me that, all right? Go Kodiak
Skull Copenhagen. Okay, I could give him from three to
one and one to three. What do you want anywhere? Okay?
Then give me a little skull. I like a little
Copenhagen and uh, you know you gotta go. You gotta
ride the big bear. Give me that Koreak on top,
wouldn't my You know it's living a little dipping in

(01:25:38):
there if you can. But got to do what I
can coach you fan in Kentucky Derby. This could also
be the last time you hear this character. You thought
we were gonna be We're gonna be back. I got
sick of it by number two on my rankings of Tobacco.
I thought we were still a break. That's when he's
late to the opener. Hey, nobody knew. Nobody knew. That

(01:26:01):
is Jonas Knox. You can get him on Twitter at
the Jonas Knox can delete that all from the pod.
Get me on Buyer on Fox, and Shelby's first day
deletes the whole show. You know it's gone. Uh, John Robins,
get him at j S Ramos zero six. Earlier in
the show, we had a chance to talk to a
couple of good friends of ours, Pete Futech and E

(01:26:23):
from salam Good Conversations. Pete, we talked a lot of
college football, even from We talked about the NFL in
the final preseason game the year, and it's funny because
from said you take the you take the preseason game,
in the finale, you have the group of players that
just want to sit there and eying hot dogs, and
then you've got the group of players that want to
play for their jobs, that are playing for their professional lives.

(01:26:44):
So you're gonna see that at least on the screen
tonight if you're watching preseason football. But for me, Jonas,
it's about college football tonight, and tonight the Big Tent
opens up, and that's where we're gonna start because for
as much as the SEC wants to reign supreme, or
as much as the a c C and Jimbo Fisher
feels that they are the premier conference in college football.

(01:27:05):
As a Big Ten guy, Jonas, I feel that the
Big Tent is where it's at in college football. And
oddly enough, Pete Futech agreed. You know, the thing that
people forget, it's that college football is not like the NFL.
It's so regional, it's so about that part of the
country that you are in. And the big part about
the Big Ten is it's got more of a national
reach than the SEC does. The SEC, as much as

(01:27:27):
you know college football fans might like it. It's not
as big as SEC fans think it is. And so
the Big Ten, because of the media markets, because it
just takes up half the country, is just bigger overall.
And Michigan and the House State are bigger, and Urban
and Jim Harbaugh a bigger The Big Ten is always
spans on the West coast, just simply because of the
Rose Bowl as well. I mean, if you lived, if

(01:27:48):
you're John Ramos or if you're Jonas Knocks and you're
growing up here on the West coast, as Jonas said,
you're not a don't have it necessarily a true true
connection to USC or u c l A. At least
when you were talking about college football, you knew Michigan was,
You know who Ohio State was because they're coming out
here every January. The Big Ten is a bigger Brandon
that does cover more and even geographically now with spreading

(01:28:09):
from Nebraska and going to Maryland and not to Rutgers,
it's a it's a bigger footprints. Look at the roster
of coaches at the Big Ten right now. Urban Meyer,
Jim Harbaugh, James Franklin, Mike D'Antonio, love E Smith. Uh Yeah,
like you go you go, yeah, you go up, up
and down the Big Ten and it really is what

(01:28:29):
the SEC was several years ago. And at the SEC
SEC media Days, you want to know why those were
a big deal. Why they handed out so many credentials
because you could go to SEC media Days and you
could sit down and you could talk with either Nick Saban,
Les Miles, Steve Spurry or Urban Meyer, all these rock
star coaches who were there and would put on a show.

(01:28:50):
And that's what you've got in the Big Ten. The
Big Ten really has become what the SEC was several
years ago, where it's big time coaches who are great talkers,
they're great showman. They make it entertaining, don't it wasn't
there a reality show they were gonna put together. There
was one on the SEC Coaches or something like that.
Like the Big Ten is, in my opinion, the most

(01:29:11):
interesting conference going. And and this is coming from somebody,
you know, I love the SEC. I got to cover it.
It's it's a blast to be around. But I gotta
be honest, the Big Ten is so much more interesting
than the SEC. There is something else that the Big
Ten has that the U that that the SEC had
had previously that is within the conference. You have your divisions,

(01:29:33):
but the divisions are one sided. And in the SEC
it was Alabama and l s u for for for
so many a tech they played in the National Championship.
You knew you were getting that matchup every year. It's
not the same if they're in different divisions. With the
Big Ten the Big Ten East now with Michigan, Ohio State,
and Penn State all in that and Michigan State all

(01:29:56):
in that division, it's much more exciting when they're spread out.
Maybe they'll be on the schedule, maybe they won't. When
Florida and Alabama were in the late two thousands, when
Tim Tebow was there and Nick Saban was just taking
over at Alabama, they would maybe play one year and
then they would. When you're in the same division, that
is a big deal because you have got at least

(01:30:19):
at least three weekends where two of those teams are
playing each other and the standings are directly related to
those outcomes and you can point to it. It's not
like they're you know what, they're in the other division.
That doesn't matter. As long as we take care of
what we have to do, we'll face them in the
championship game. No, they've got that in the division and
so specifically just the big tend East is just a
beast as it is, and that's what makes it intriguing.

(01:30:41):
Any think a Pat Fitzgerald and p J. Fleck. P
J Fleck might be insane by the way, his O
c D is so bad. It's so bad. You ever
you see that show that they did on Yeah, I've
seen a couple of but just the the energy he brings,
I'm telling you, top to bottom, there's not a more
interesting conference in college football. I don't care what anybody says,
and you can do of the hohope, No, it's all
about the sc Stop enough with that crap. Enough defending

(01:31:05):
defending your your own conference. If you want to judge conferences,
what's the most interesting, it's the Big Ten by a mile.
When you look at the SEC and we can just
go team by team. Let's we know we're gonna talk
about Alabama. They're going to be in the national championship
talk no matter what. But recently, Ole Miss, Okay, ole
Miss was a team that was on the rise. They
are on trouble times to say the absolutely least. Texas

(01:31:27):
A and m Hey burst on the scene with Johnny
Man's ellen at offense. We don't know if Kevin Sumone
is gonna have a job there in a couple of years.
When you look at let's just take L s U.
Who knows what's gonna happen with that oors An Now
teams ranked middle of the pack. You've got you've got
a Heisman candidate in in guys. But outside of that, Jones,
I don't think people are looking at L. S U
as a true national championship contender. We don't know about Florida.

(01:31:51):
They've got Michigan open. All these schools that we thought
made up the great SEC have taken a step back,
and there's really been no team to replace them. And
with the Big Ten, at least you have it. Heck,
in the Pac twelve, you've got USC in Washington at
least going at it, and Stanford is going to be
up there in the top ten. So at least you've
got that going for it. The SEC not so much

(01:32:14):
this time right now. And and and let's be honest
about like even like a team last year like Tennessee,
how how many how many lucky breaks did Tennessee get
early on? I mean to where they were in these
crazy shootout games. I mean, now, not everybody agrees with us.
Stand not everybody agrees with us. Let's go live to
Baton Rouge, where at oars are on. Head coach of
the Tigers wants to win. I just love Hummer is

(01:32:37):
the best vehicle on the road, big aggressive and it
represents everything that we wanted. Old Immer. You need a Hummer.
Tell them about it, Joe, Joe, I gotta please everybody.
I do like how I slipped in the old miss Yeah,
apparently the teleprompter was all that refreshed. Maybe we've got

(01:32:59):
updated sound bitey the same arguments that we can make
for the Big ten. And maybe why the PAC twelve
is the same one you can put in the A
C C as well, Florida State, Clemson, those schools, Louisville.
When we talked with Pete fu Tech about that, about
how the how the Cardinals maybe aren't getting as bunch
of a run. The SEC with everybody else outside of
Alabama has taken a step back, and I think if
you took Alabama out of the picture, if Alabama is

(01:33:23):
not there, you can't pick a next up team to
be a national championship contender because they have a lot
of questions. I was talking with Pete fu Tech last
night on Fox Sports Radio and he was on Pete
few Tech, a college football news that we also caught
up with earlier, and he I asked him, what what
game on the in this opening weekend could be an

(01:33:43):
indicator of coaches fate being determined sooner rather than later,
Like what an outcome in which all of a sudden
the pressure would be on. And he pointed this out
to me, and I totally agree. He started talking about
Texas A and m U c l A because whoever
loses that now all of us utton. Hey, Jim Mora,
what's the deal here? Man? Are you just a Josh

(01:34:04):
Rosen coach? Is that what we know you? As? You
were able to recruit Josh Rosen because he's your neighbor.
And once he's gone, are you gone as well too?
And then Kevin someone has made Kevin Summon has made
a career at a big wins early on in the season,
and then they fall apart later on. So if however
that game turns out, you're already going to start hearing
whispers about which one of those coaches is on the

(01:34:25):
Hot Sune. College football is here, and I love the conversation,
especially when we have absolutely no data from games, no
really to to really add to our conversation. It's but
when you're looking at all the scenarios, there's nothing better
than hypothetical. Yeah, you want to juggle knives gamble on
week one of the NFL and college football. Have fun
with that, Tell me and do it blindfolded, by the way,

(01:34:46):
why you're at you have no idea who these teams are.

(01:36:59):
is in the news again, and that's because Albert Brier
of the MMQB dot Com spoke with multiple executives from
the NFL to get their take on why Kaepernick is
not employed by the National Football League or by any
of the teams in the National Football League. For an example,
he spoke with one executive who I'm quoting here from

(01:37:21):
Albert Brier's Peace Jonas quote. It's not something we discussed,
so to talk about reasoning, we're talking hypothetical. Certainly, he's
good enough to be a backup, but we have a
good number two, a guy that fits our system that
we have familiarity with. This executive goes on to say
he's here for the same reason that Adam Gays goes
back to Ja Cutler. We know exactly what we're going

(01:37:42):
to get from the guy that was part of the piece. Physically,
Kaepernick's more talented, but familiarity with a backup at that position,
knowing exactly what you're going to get is more important
than the wow factor. That's just from one executive in
the National Football League. And I want to just take
him back to comments that we heard from Lashawn McCoy,
the Buffalo Bills running back, and why he thought Colin

(01:38:05):
Kaepernick did not have a job. It's a lot more
than just um, he's not he's not on the team
because of if he doesn't want to stand for nationally,
they may have something to do with it, but I
think also has a lot do his his play. And
this to me, like Lashaw McCoy summed it up in
a twelve second sound bite of why Colin Kaepernick is

(01:38:29):
not in the National Football League. And I have argued
Jonas that the lack of tryouts for Colin Kaepernick has
been because of the protests, but why he's not on
a team as a combination of both. And when you're
putting those both together, you're weighing them and it doesn't
make sense. And so as this conversation continues to happen,
as Albert Brier talks to these four executives, it's pretty

(01:38:51):
much the same thing. And when it comes down to it,
there were only so many opportunities anyway in the NFL
just because of the type of player that Colin Kaepernick is.
But god forbid, we have a layered discussion. God forbid,
we talk about multiple reasons as to why a guy
doesn't have a job. I've been saying this, like I'm
willing to concede that part of the issue is the
distractions and and him, you know, being all about the

(01:39:16):
the political aspect and his his causes and where his
mind is at. That's part of the issue. Like I'm
willing to acknowledge that. Then why won't you Kaepernick supporters
meet me halfway and also acknowledge that he's not an
ideal fit for every NFL team? How how hard is this?
I don't understand, Like why doesn't Tim Tebow have a job?
He won games in the NFL too, Like Tim Tebow

(01:39:37):
doesn't have a job because it's really hard to fit
him within an offense. Denver did it, and it's part
of the reason why Mike McCoy got head coaching job
head coaching job afterwards because of what he was able
to do with Tim Tebow. I just don't know why
it's so difficult for people on the other side of
this Kaepernick argument not to look and say, yeah, there's
it's a more layered discussion than just the race stuff

(01:39:58):
or just you know what his his OSes. I just
I don't understand it. I really don't. The term black
balled and being black balled by the NFL, I think
is I think that's far reaching. I don't think that
there are as many opportunities just because of Colin Kaeperto,
because there would be from any dropback passer or somebody
trying to fit into, say what the Seattle Seahawks do.

(01:40:19):
When you bring up Tim Tebow, you have to remember
that Tim Tebow's time in the NFL, after his great
start with the Denver Broncos, went what to the New
York Jets for a little bit, and then where did
it go after that? Patriots? And it didn't last more
than there were no regular season games, So it wasn't
like Tim Tebow stuck around in the league for six

(01:40:40):
or seven years and one of the reasons why Tim Tebow,
in my mind, Jonas didn't stick in the NFL was
as you said, skill set, wasn't there, the type of
quarterback that you would play in the system that he
wasn't there. And let's be honest, if you bring in
Tim Tebow, where does that circus go in terms of popularity?

(01:41:00):
And it goes the attention goes to Tim Tebow. And
when you bring in it's it's the same way. It's you.
You can say what you will, whether you like Colin
Kaepernick or don't like Colin Kaepernick for what he does
through his political beliefs, but all of the reporters that
are gonna come into your locker room and want to
talk to Colin Kaepernick or the other players. Is something

(01:41:22):
different when it comes to the NFL and coaches wanting
to keep a system and wanting to keep everything under
their control and you can't do it. So while Colin Kaepernick,
you're saying he's being held out because of the distractions
and and what he stands for. I think there's the
same argument that can be made for Tim Tebow. Oh,
why Tim Tebow didn't get more opportunities in the NFL

(01:41:43):
because of the fact of the attention that he brings
and when you're a backup quarterback, you're not bringing attention.
And that's why I think and other people this isn't
new ground. Other people have said this, but for Lashawn
McCoy to be able to like sum it up in
twelve seconds and to hear the from the executives or
coaches that Albert Brier talked about or talked with about
Colin Kaepernick, it's the same thing. And not to keep
on rambling. We did this show in the spring and

(01:42:06):
Jonas brought up two teams. He goes Carolina in Seattle.
What teams would be a better fit scheme wise for
Colin Kaepernick. In talking to one of the executives, you're saying, well,
outside or the coach says, he's not a pocket passer,
So if you bring him in as a backup, you're
not and you're not Seattle or Carolina, and you don't
know have those things built in. You're running a different offense,

(01:42:27):
like like you should never here's here's if you join,
Like it would be selfish if if I if say
this was a team of of eleven people doing the show,
all right, you guys were all a part of the show.
And when I come when Doug is not here and
you guys are doing I have always done the show.
John's on the show with Doug. Ryan Music is on
the show with Doug. You're on the show with Doug.

(01:42:49):
When I come in when Doug is not here to
be a part of this show, do I tell you guys,
all right, We're gonna do it my way and you guys,
this is how this is gonna be run. Guys, I
want this. No, it's easier for me as one person
to join in line with what you guys have already
built and done in because it's it's much more difficult
to take a bunch of different people outside of their element.

(01:43:10):
So when you bring in a backup quarterback, are you
going to redesign an entire offense for one guy or
do you expect that one guy to figure out what
the other ten guys have been doing. So Colin Kaepernick
has to understand that there are limited availability in the
league because he has a certain style of play. Seattle
in Carolina and it didn't work out for the The

(01:43:31):
whole idea that people are turning this into, well, there's
a race issue involved, and yeah, because there's no other
black players that have jobs in the NFL. Come on, man,
like to like, do your homework. Stopp being lazy. Understand
what's at play here. This is as much an employment
conversation as it is a scheme fit and a race conversation.

(01:43:51):
It's just it's just such a tired narrative on Colin Kaepernick.
But you've got people out there that are just steadfast
on it won't but well in the narrative about Kaepernick
has been going on for a while, but I feel
that people's opinions are starting to change on just because
of the length that this is going The fact is
this past Sunday, in the show that I do Sunday
Mornings with my Harmon here on Fox Sports Radio, we

(01:44:14):
spoke with Jonathan Jones of Sports Illustrated in the MMQB
and asked him about Colin Kaepernick and do we need
to hear from Kaepernick? This was after the protests and
the rally that they had from in front of the
NFL offices. Do we need to hear from Colin Kaepernick?
And and Jones said yes that I at one point

(01:44:35):
felt we didn't need to speak up. Why did he
need to speak up. But now I think that we
need to hear from him. So when Colin Kaepernick goes
and meets with the Seattle Seahawks, the only people that
we heard talk about it were Pete Carroll. Okay, when
John Harbaugh is being asked about it through the week,
he's talking about the conversations that we had with Colin Kaepernick.

(01:44:55):
Those teams have brought them in and are also talking
with the situations, and they can only say so much.
Pete Carroll said he's a starter in this league, and
I took that as that Colin Kaepernick wants starter like
money or something that isn't backup money. And that's a
reason why they didn't come to terms. That's just a guess.
And the reason it's just a guess is because we
haven't heard from Colin Kaepernick at all. And so now

(01:45:16):
when you're talking with exaction, you're talking with coaches, and
you're hearing more and more. Lashawn McCoy, in my mind,
summed it up just just perfectly. It's not the risk,
the worth the risk of having the backup quarterback in
that spot. It's different if it was a star player.
And the same thing goes with Tim Tebow wasn't worth
it for teams to bring in Tim Tebow because of

(01:45:36):
all the attention that he brought when he just needed
a back, a backup quarterback to sit in the meetings,
take notes and kind of blended with the furniture. I
love when quarterbacks get signed, and the Kaepernick ball washers
started with the whole he got a job, but Kaepernick
can't get one like the one, the one that I
loved was it was it? Dan Orlovsky got signed to
a minimum deal with the Rams. I think a third

(01:45:58):
string quarterback and oh my god, you mean the guy
who ran out of the back of the end zone
can't get a job or got a job at Colin
Kaepernick can't. Okay, Hey, Colin, you interested in being a
third stringer for eight hundred thousand dollars a year? No,
I'm good, thanks, though, Like, come on, like you have
a realistic conversation. Jay Cutler got it? You mean the

(01:46:18):
guy I mean we talk about a bad teammate last night.
Checked Jay Cutler never slept with a teammate's girlfriend and
got in a fight with him in practice, Kaepernick did. Though,
you had Kaepernick's own teammates A couple of years ago
talk about how he needed to be benched because of
how he was playing. So let's not just remember the
last twelve months in a stance that he took. Let's

(01:46:39):
actually remember the in totality his whole career. But of
course you they don't want to have those conversations because
it would expose them as being lazy on the topic.
And now Colin Kaepernick hasn't been with a team through
a training camp. There's no way in my mind he's
on any team in twenty seven. I'll tell you what,
Susan Surandon. Just to make Susan Surandon happy, she showed
up at that rally that that Kaepernick right, and all

(01:46:59):
those people saying they weren't going to watch the NFL, sure,
she showed up at the rally. So you know what
I'm gonna do to make Susan Sarandon happy, and I'm
gonna make a lot of other Kaepernick fans happy, I
will signed Colin Kaepernick to my fantasy team. There it is, there,
it is. You want a job, you got one. Yeah, absolutely,
I'll tell you what. The only people that don't watch
the NFL are Rams and Chargers. Since we find out

(01:47:21):
the preseason, John, Yeah, they don't. They term through the
roof is an apropos. It's through the basement for those ratings. Hey,
Green Bay, watch out for us tonight. Yeah. By the way,
don't forget that battle for l A? Dan, What between
the fight for l A? Sorry, what between the Sparks

(01:47:42):
and the l A Galaxy? Is that the Is that
the fight for l A? We're talking about? What a joke?
What a non football town we live in. It's amazing.
Nobody's safe. If they moved all thirty two teams to
l A, nobody would care about football. You could. You

(01:48:05):
could have the Encino Seahawks taking on the Luca Lake
Jaguars and nobody would care. All right. He is Dan Buyer.
I'm Jonas Knox in for deg gott Leeve here Fox
Sports Radio. You can always listen on the I Heart
Radio app. You can get Dan on Twitter at Dan
Buyer on Fox. You can get me at the Jonas
Knocks Up. Next, though, it is the return of one

(01:48:27):
of the great segments in sports talk radio history. Do
not go anywhere. We will have the very latest for
you next. But before that, we've got news out of
the world of baseball with the great dev Carson Depp.
That's right, Jonas. The Houston Astros finally get to head
back home to Houston for the first time since Harvey
made landfall. They are done in St. Petersburg, wrapping up

(01:48:49):
their home series against the Rangers. Astros reached the eight
win mark with a five one win over Texas at
Tropicana Field. Astros also grabbed headlines today acquiring Cameron Mayburn
off waivers from the Angels. Halo's acquired slugger Justin Upton
from Detroit On the Diamonds today, the Twins walked off
the White Sox five for courtesy of Max Kepler being
hit by a pitch with the bases loaded bottom of

(01:49:11):
the ninth. Minnesota's won four in a row and sits
in that final ale wild card spot. Scooter Jeannette Homerton
drove in three for the Reds in their seven to
win over the Mets. Dodgers right now in danger of
losing five and row for the first time this season.
Dodgers trail at Arizona a seven one Diamondbacks lead bottom
of the fifth inning. The appeal hearing for Cowboys running
back Ezekiel Elliott for his six game suspension is finally

(01:49:33):
wrapped up. Of course, the Texans Cowboys preseason game tonight
canceled so the Houston players can get home to their families.
The other fifteen preseason finales will go on as scheduled,
and in college football too, ranked teams kicking off their
respective seasons. Tonight, Dan of course, will be focused on
second ranked Ohio State as they visit Indiana eight Eastern
in a Big Ten matchup tenth ranked Oklahoma State host

(01:49:56):
Tulsa seven thirty Eastern on Fox Sports One. You know,
a couple of years ago, the Buckeyes and Hoosiers played
a shootout in Bloomington. The good news for the buck
Eyes is the head coach at that time of Indiana,
Kevin Wilson, now the Buckey's offensive coordinators, so he gets
to go against his former team after he was dismissed
just a few months back. That will be uh. That
will be an interesting storyline for tonight's game to start

(01:50:17):
off the Big Tent. Kevin Wilson Fox Sports Radio legend
Kevin Wilson fight the run in years ago, but but
in the end to put a real true beaux on
that didn't. Jack Jack Trudeau and Kevin Wilson become friends.
Yes they did, Yeah, they did, Yes after a while.

(01:50:37):
So that's that's say, filling in the history of here
on Fox Sports Radio. Why who needs history when we
can look ahead to the future. Does it get any
better than this? I think it's the John Ramo Show.
It's the John Ramo Show, Ramo Show, this is the

(01:50:58):
John Romino Sports on bou Here's John Ramos. He says
exactly what Suzanne tells him to say. Yeah, let's get up, yeah,
yeah yeah. During the evening, everybody, we have a great show.
If you tonight evening are on the West Coast's two
for Thursday, make sure to always use the hashtag the

(01:51:21):
John Ramos Show on tonight's too for Thursday. I want
to know what are your favorite things that come in twos?
Is it ears? Maybe gloves? I want to hear from
you and I'll read your tweets on the air. Plus,
there's been a lot of talk recently about quarterbacks in
the NFL. We talked about it earlier on this show,
but come up later on my show. I will give
you my top third string quarterbacks. For the last nineteen years,

(01:51:45):
people have been asking me to do this for a while,
I said why not, Or maybe I should have said,
it's about time. As always, I have my sidekick Ryan
here with me, and I wanted to start. Yes, right,
let's start office of NBA. Right, let's do it. We
have some breaking news, Ryan. The Lakers have been fined
five hundred thousand dollars for tampering regarding Paul George. Wow,

(01:52:06):
that's a heavy fine, John, Well, that's nothing compared to
what happened to me. What happened Well, I'm a bit
embarrassed to admit this, but I've been banned from coaching soccer.
Oh no, John, what did you do? Well? I tried
to buy players from other teams so we can finally
win a game. All right, everybody, Yes, yes, thank you,

(01:52:26):
thank you for that. Thank you? All right, everybody quiet,
quiet down, please, Okay, that's enough. Seriously, shut up. I'm
going off script here, guys. Sorry, Ryan, but I've been
getting so much love from the fans. I just want
to get back to the millennials. So Ryan, if you
could please go into the audience and find someone I

(01:52:46):
would love to get a question from one of our
loyal millennial fans. Yeah, no, no, no problem, John, just
give me a second, give me a second. Hold alright,
so I think I got someone here with me. All right,
So what's your name and where are you from? Hi?
I'm Shelby and I'm from Boston. Welcome to the show. Shell.
What's your question. Well, I'm a huge Celtics fan and
I'm so excited about getting Kyrie Irving. I really think

(01:53:07):
that this might be the year that we take it all.
So what do you think is Kyrie enough to take
down the Warriors? Well, I'll tell you what, Shelby. I
love Boston. It's such an awesome city. They have some
of the favorite food in the country, some of my
favorite food. The sites are second to none, and of
course the people are incredible. I can't wait to get
back to Boston. You've sent in your questions and I'll

(01:53:28):
answer them. Next of the Jandarovo Show, we have an
internun just like you, don't think thinking over the world.
They fight. It's amazing. Everybody give it up for the cures.

(01:53:48):
First babe I ever saw live here at the Greek
Theater a bunch of potheads. Don't forget. Don't join me
here up on the stage later for an in depth interview.
Also we have a John Rama Show exclusive. Something you
won't hear on any other show in the country, radio
or TV US Here on any website or blog is
Nick Saban the greatest coach of all time? My answer
might surprise you, so stick around to find out. Right now,

(01:54:12):
today is all about giving love to the fans, So
we're going to take your questions and open up the
mail bag. Ramo Show mail Bag Ran, What have we
got going on in the mail bag? Weekend? All right? John?

(01:54:33):
This comes from Kevin in Wisconsin. Hi, John? With college
football starting this weekend, do you think the Badgers can
win the Big Tent and get into the playoffs this year?
Wisconsin has a great team and the schedule is in
their favor, But honestly, I don't get it all right?
Now we have uh this is from we got Jenny

(01:54:57):
in Los Angeles Ramos. Yeah, I'm so excited to have
two NFL teams in my hometown this season, but I
don't know who to root for. Help me out, well, Jenny.
I'm a lifelong Rams fan, so I think the answers
to your question is very easy, But you know what,
I just don't get it all right. Last one here

(01:55:17):
comes from Sean in Indianapolis. Hey, John, I've been a
Colts fan since day one. If Andrew Luck misses some
regular season games because of his shoulder injury, do you
think they can still win the a f C South. Look,
Sean is his name from India. Any time you're a
quarterback and you have should problems, that's not good. But
I tell you what, I just don't get it. He

(01:55:41):
is a real home run king. Find out who that
is next on The John Rommel Show. Um, there's a
first for everything. Yeah, first time we've had a kid
telling joke on the show. And also the first time
the John Ramo Show is actually four pages long, usually
a three page I haven't even been listening. Still on

(01:56:06):
Let's turn your mike on. Let's here for the cure.
Hey Friday, I'm in love. I know everyone on social
media is going crazy. It is Friday in Tokyo. Okay
about Tokyo. They're gonna be join us later on this
show with an in depth interview also coming up. I

(01:56:26):
know you've been waiting on this. Let's draft our favorite
centuries guys. Maybe you like the fourteenth century. I love
the seventeenth century. Tweet hashtag the John Romo Show with
your thoughts, and we'll have the draft later on, but
right now we stay to step out on the observation deck.
Who Connor McGregor, Your time is now. Floyd Mayweather, Bravo,

(01:56:54):
young Man, Boston Celtics between a rock and hard play?
Not quite there yet, Kyrie Irving, Go east, my friend,
go east. Jamis Winston, We've been to keep an eye
on you this season. New York Jets contraction, Take that.

(01:57:20):
Jason Spith, Thank you MLB for a wild card race.
G and Carlos Stanton, you are the true home run king.
Knock Knock? Who's there? Aaron Judge? Aaron Judge? Who? That's
what I'm saying. Can the Dodgers reach as? How about

(01:57:41):
a hundred and thirty wins? The sky's limit? Boys? Did
someone say college football weekend? Looking forward to some Stony
Brook and South Florida. That's what college football is all about.
That's all the time we have for tonight. A big
thanks to everyone who tweeted and using the hashtag the
on Ramo's show. Also thanks to the Cure for being

(01:58:02):
tonight's special musical guests. Sorry, guys, we have to get
to your interview next time, and of course, Ryan, I'll
catch you on the back side. And by the way,
a little behind the curtain here, you want to know
how much of a pro John Ramo says, a lot
of people like, oh, well, this is just totally scripted.
If it was scripted, John would have said stone broke
in South Florida. But he did not. He was He

(01:58:26):
was able to vamp and realize that that was Stony Broke,
that the y was silent. How he threw out the
question that the Dodgers can reach your hundred and thirty wins,
No they can't. They've already lost forty times, so that
it's not going to happen. They've got wins, it's only
about thirty games left. Can't happen. I just want to
say one more thing before you go to break hashtag

(01:58:47):
the John Ramos Show. And by the way, um the Cure,
who was the musical guest on The John Ramo Show.
That was the first ever band I ever saw live
at the Greek Theater. If you've ever, at one point
in your life thought you've worn either too much makeup
or too much black, go to a Cure show. Wow. Wow,
I was in a white T shirt. And I thought

(01:59:08):
I was gonna get stuff thrown at me. It is
a different bonds, all right. So that is Dan Buyer
Jonas Knocks in for Doug Gottlieb here on Fox Sports Radio.
You can also listen on the I Heart Radio app.
If you would like to provide show content ideas for
the next John Ramo Show, which should be coming up
on August, you can do so at j S. Ramos
zero six Up. Next, though, it is time to step

(01:59:30):
on the gas. It is time to get to something
in the world of sports that everybody's been anticipating. A
thank you from an unlikely source. That's next here on FSR.
This is the Doug Gottlieb Show on Fox Sports Radio.
I'm Dan Buyer, that's Jonas Knocks. He's Johnny Ramos on

(01:59:51):
this p k R edition. Quickie quickly. Mikey Irvan tweets
in Doug has to let you do the John Ramo
Show at least once a week makes my day of
As we are in for Doug Gottlieb, Um, I'm gonna
say no, that's not gonna happen. So that is you
can't do it, can't do it. I'll tell you what
Deb Carson can fill us in on what's happening in
the world of sports oppress well, guys, Kyrie Irving, of course, finally,

(02:00:18):
I guess getting the official heave ho from Cleveland. He
will be heading to Boston now that all the details
have been hammered out, but he did post his thanks
and his love on Instagram to his former city, including
a quote, my love extends way beyond the court I
have for Cleveland, and it will always be the place
that's special because of the great people and great experiences.
I know that newspapers aren't a real thing. I mean,

(02:00:41):
they are a thing, but they aren't the thing anymore.
But I like when guys take out full page ads
in cities because it's Hey, it costs something to make
an Instagram post. I can do that. Now, come on, Kyrie,
every step up the game, just put out something in
the plane dealer, thank you. Does he have to be
a full page? Just a half page, that's good. This
is just an Instagram post or whatever. Let's move on,

(02:01:03):
moving on. I just be like, like he's he's now
it's football season, Like he's now remember the Boston Celtics.
They got the deal in Now it's time to move
on Cleveland. Thanks Cleveland that I wanted to leave your
town so bad. Thank you for that. Guys. There's a
private school in the DC area that is banning students
from wearing apparel with the Redskins team name or logo

(02:01:25):
that got students aged three years through eighth grade in
the head of the school says he's a fan of
the team, but he decided to impose the band following
what he called thoughtful, sensitive, age appropriate classroom discussions on
race based team logos in sports. I saw when Packers
played the Redskins a couple of weeks ago, there was
a noticeable Hackers versus Washington. I wish I can't remember

(02:01:49):
seeing it more and more Washington. It's when you see Washington,
you know somebody's taking a stand. Yeah, well they do.
You get those fantasy football draft kits, you know what
I noted they'll send out like if you take a
team defense, the Redskins logo was gone. There was like
there was like a different logo done on the draft
kid in my fantasy league that I was in. What

(02:02:09):
does that mean? There should be a stop sign because
you're not going to draft the Redskins defensive have a
heart sign alright. Women's tennis last night, five seed Caroline
woes Yaki was upset at the US Open, but seemed
more upset after the loss about the tournaments unacceptable favoritism
of Maria Sharapova, She says, quote, putting out a schedule

(02:02:33):
where the number five in the world is playing court
five the fifth match of the day at eleven PM
is unacceptable. Then someone who comes back from a performance
enhancing drug scandal, you know, performance enhancing drugs, and all
of a sudden gets every match on center court in
prime time. I think that's a questionable thing to do.

(02:02:53):
Caroline Wolseyaki not happy. But now we've got the other
shot of the story. John Romis took care of it.
Are you that of I see you have a Twitter
account at Maria Sharapova. Are you in the social media world?
I mean, is that something that's part of your life now? Too?
It seems to be part of everyone's life right now.
It is a little bit, you know, so I was
so hesitant in the beginning with Twitter and Facebook came around.

(02:03:14):
But it's funny. I I think if you if you
created with your own words, and you're and you're passionate
was sharing behind themes of your life. Just true fans.
I mean there are fans that wake up in the
middle of the night too to watch and play when
I'm playing in all parts of the world. That hard
hitting interview a year and a half ago by John
Ramos and Maria Serro, great audio quality. John did that

(02:03:35):
on his Sony PlayStation. And finally, guys, there was a
big premiere today. Facebook debut the reality show Ball in
the Family at ten episode, weekly series about patriarch lava
Or Ball and his basketball playing sons. He said they
had an offer but NBC but turned it down. Quote
who's watching TV these days anyway? Facebook was the smart

(02:03:57):
move for us because that's the future. End quote. I
can't wait to that shows. Ball over God the press.
I have no desire to watch the uh the Ball
Family matters whatever they're gonna call it on Faceball Family Matters,

(02:04:17):
whatever it is. I am so not interested in what
they try to do. I get about I understand the
whole branding part of it, but it's just too much. Plus,
I'm not going to Facebook to watch TV. When they
make posters, isn't going to be Ball to the Wall.
I mean, we're doing. Yeah, they could do that. I

(02:04:38):
go to Facebook now to see people stupid memes on
how awful their life is. Oh Dan, I gotta I
gotta get you. I gotta get your your opinion on this.
Give me a huge upset in college football this week. Okay,
the big upset is gonna go down Saturday and
