Speaker 1 (00:00):
The results are in a survey of INK five thousand
companies shows the top barriers to growth. It's taking finance
too long to close the books, so slow to launch
new products. We need to hire good people and keep them.
Too many disconnected systems. I can't see what's happening in
my business. Sounds like they've outgrown their business and financial
management systems. Quick books and spreadsheets work fine at the start,

(00:22):
but now it takes twice the effort to get things
done and you can't get accurate answers. You should know
the number one system for growing companies, net Suite from Oracle.
Net Suite is the one system that tracks and manages revenue,
cash flow, hr, inventory projects, even e commerce for every industry.
Now you can run your business from a dashboard on

who has laid out the red carpet. There's literally red
carpet here. I don't know if there was a dead
body or what, but there's a big red, red carpet.
Blood stain all over this carpet. Welcome in. Speaking of blood,
there blood blood on the hands of Ben Roethlisberger, even
though he doesn't want blood on his hands. Danna Jeremiah
from the NFL Network will join us upcoming in fifteen minutes. Uh,

(01:46):
we got a ton to get to, ton to get
to We got the Pittsburgh Steelers getting rid of Todd Haley,
which I hate to say, I told I don't really
hate to say. I told you so. I told you so,
and I told you so and it was not a surprise.
But there's all there's a lot to it. Could Bruce
arians be brought back? Is that that crazy to think of? Um? Anyway,

(02:08):
So we got some football to discuss, plus games that
are upcoming. But I wanted to get to this topic
to begin. So, Paul Pierce's number is going to be
retired by the Boston Celtics, and kudos to the Celtics
were retiring Paul Pierce's number. UM. I don't know if
I've shared this fact with you guys, but Pierce was

(02:30):
actually my roommate at abc D camp back when PEREGI
in four summer n Paul Pierce, who had beaten my team.
He was a sophomore. People didn't know him. He was
a center. He's kind of chubby anyway, he played for
Inglewood High School. By the time we were entering our
senior year, he was one of the top ten players

(02:51):
in California. UM. And then by the time after we
got done with this campus abc D camp, we used
to be that Nike camp of the two biggest camps, UM,
he became one of the top ten players in the country.
And I remember I was his roommate and he would
talk about himself and he and he was kind of
half sark. He was sarcastic, but you know with sarcasm

(03:14):
is like there's always a good portion of it which
he believes to be the truth, right, And he said,
I'm one of the great I'm gonna be one of
the greatest players to ever play in the NBA. And
you know, look, do I put him in the Kobe variety? No?
But do I do I put him in? Obviously not
in that Lebron and Magic and Michael and but or

(03:34):
no to the Kobe, but like, to be an all
time great with the Boston Celtics is a pretty supreme honor. Um.
So the Boston Celtics are going to retire his number
number thirty four on February eleven, That just so happens
to coincide with when they play the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now,

(03:59):
they planned to show a brief video tribute to Isaiah
Thomas uh in like the in the introductions to that game.
Of course, Thomas was traded in the off season. As
you guys know, he played h two and a half
seasons with the Boston Celtics. His best season of his

(04:19):
career last year twenty nine points a game. They had
the best record in the Eastern Conference. Of course, he
got hurt or his hip was so bad he couldn't
continue in the Eastern Conference finals, and then he was
summarily traded before the season began. You guys know this
story so in an effort to make Paul Pierce or
an effort to honor Paul Pierce by retiring his number,

(04:43):
which is the most supreme honor that any sports team,
any sports franchise can give you. And then you're talking
about the Boston Celtics. That's Bob Couzy, that's Bill Russell,
that's John Halcheck. Al right, that's Larry Bird, that's Robert Harrish. Like,
that's Kevin McHale. Like you you're that's basketball royalty. They

(05:08):
have what do they have? Seventeen NBA titles? Seventeen NBA titles.
Paul Pierce's number is going to hang from the raptors
at Boston Garden. A kid from Inglewood High School who
didn't start his sophomore year, was playing center and made
himself into one of the great players ever at Kansas
and one of the greatest ever Boston. Selfis like, that's
an amazing story. In an effort to honor him, they've

(05:31):
actually kind of made him look like a d bag.
That's true. That's because he's come out and some of
the people he's played with have come out and uh
and said some things that he believes to be true
and he is honest about in terms of honoring him,
giving him a night and giving a video tribute to

(05:54):
Isaiah Thomas in the same night. He said this yesterday,
Danny and I talked about for forty minutes. He told
me this is what we planned. At the end the conversation,
he said, if you don't want us to do Isaiah,
we won't. So I told him I really don't, and
that was it. That's how he left it. Um. Isaiah

(06:14):
Thomas took to Twitter and said, I'd like to thank
the Celtics for their gracious offer to play a video
tribute on February eleven, celebrating my three years in Boston.
But since it appears that this has caused some controversy
with Paul Pierce's night, I'd ask the Celtics instead to
focus all their attention on Number thirty four's career. Pierce
went on, Thomas had a shot at being honored. You can't.

(06:37):
You came to Boston, whether you're playing or not, you
should have had your tribute then. I just don't see
how if someone is having a jersey retirement, they're going
to be running other tributes to other players. Danny tried
to sell me on it. But I told him he
had his shot, Danny, and he punked punked, Uh punked
you on it. He pretty much dictated everything. They let

(06:58):
it happen because they felt sorry out how the trade
to Cleveland went down. It's guilt, that's what it is.
Ain said yesterday that Thomas intended all along to bow
out of the video tribute once he learned of Paul
Pierce's reservations. Okay, look, I'm calling BS on what Isaiah
Thomas did. KG slammed in. Paul Pierce slammed him. But
this makes Paul Pierce look small, doesn't he? Like? You know,

(07:20):
you can't share the spotlight for a little one and
a half two minute tribute to a guy that played
for the Boston Celtics. But it's his Night's Paul Pierce night. Now. Look,
could Isaiah Thomas say the same thing? Look, you could
have said you didn't want to be traded when they
traded you in one of the great all time heist trades.

(07:43):
They traded you Kevin Garnett and Jason Terried to the
Brooklyn Nets for a treasure trove of draft micks. You
could have said that absolutely would have been well within
inbounds for you to say that, Um, where's on? Rondo
came out? What has he Thomas done? Oh? That will

(08:06):
we celebrate around here? When he was told he took
him to the Eastern Conference finals. This is the Boston Celtics.
This isn't the Phoenix Suns. No disrespect to any other organization,
but the Celtics don't hand don't hang conference title banners. Wow. Now, look,
if it's if I'm Paul Pierce, the advice I would
have given to him, and I know he's in the media,

(08:26):
and Paul has never been shy with his feelings. And
one of the things makes Paul great is he just
says what he thinks. But he should have allowed Rondo
and KG and anyone else to fight his battles, and
he should have been at least outwardly gracious whatever they
want to do. I'm just honored to have my jersey
number retired. But the true villain, and this is the
Boston Celtics. How could you have not seen this to

(08:49):
be a problem? You know, I mean, it's this is
a lot like, uh, You're you're asked to come speak
at your high school and you know, Tony Robbins is
also speaking like we want you to be the keynote speaker.
We do have another speaker. You get there, like, we
do have another speaker on the docket. Who is it?

(09:10):
Tony Robbins? How am I gonna compete with Tony Robbins?
This is Paul Pierre. I don't I actually don't blame
Paul Pierce. It is his night, Like if if you
think enough of me to give me my own night
and to pre plan it and to make it against
the Calves, which is interesting, right, Like I I get

(09:33):
the idea. I kind of like the idea of it
because you know it would be nationally televised and Lebron
there in the place being packed, like all of that
stuff would will will work. Um, And maybe you know
he didn't play his entire career with just one team.
He actually end up playing with four teams, finished up
with the Clippers after a stint with the Wizards, and

(09:55):
then the Nets before that. But and this is this
is one of those things to which the opposite of
the intended consequences take place. This is not the law
of unintended consequence, is the actual opposite of the the intention.
The Boston Celtics was only to honor Paul Pierce. That's it.
There is no greater honor in sports than having your

(10:16):
number retired, none more so than even Hall of Fame.
I mean that that no one in that organization can
wear my number. That's pretty cool. And yet the Celtics like, hey,
by the way, we want to run a little video trip. Like, no, dude,
I brought every family member, every friend, any person that

(10:39):
at my high school. Coach Roy Williams will probably be there.
He'll bring everybody there. That's my night, right by night.
This is when I have a friend who He'll remain nameless,
but I remember, you know, sometimes people in my industry,
we get asked to do two MC events. And he

(11:01):
was m seeing Providences preseason basketball banquet and the banquet
was about Providence basketball, and they said, hey, listen, we
need you to be here an hour early. He was
a little bit late, so you could kid. It's with people,
shake some hands, kiss some babies, and then we need,
you know, a thirty second to sixty two intro video.

(11:21):
He brought with him a five five minute highlight tape
of his career at a different university. It was just awkward.
It didn't take away from the Providence Friars being recognized.
But what it was was it made it about him
for at least a short period time. And that's the
whole lack of that thought. Wasn't the attent of the night.

(11:42):
And so now when I when I read you what
Paul Pierce is saying, man, he had, like Paul Pierre said,
a little bit of nonsense. He had his chance, he
dictated his terms whatever. Like, Look, she's not totally wrong.
I mean, it was Isaiah Thomas who chose not to
play in the Eastern Conference Finals because his hip was
just too painful. Right, he could have kind of gritted

(12:03):
it out and played through it, but he wanted to
protect the future of his career. I can't totally blame him,
but you know, he did not play actually in those
East in the last two games the Eastern Conference Finals,
and like a regular season accomplishment, I'm not really sure
what that matters. Like everything worked out perfectly for him.
He's gonna make more money in this offseason than anyone

(12:24):
ever could have thought possible for Isaiah Thomas an NBA uniform,
even though he's struggling with the Cleveland Cavaliers and all
of that said, Isaiah Thomas didn't want to play last
time around because it was his second game back and
he chose to take that day off. So they didn't
do a bit of tribute the first time. They tried
to sneak it in this time. And he's a guy
who didn't play for him the last two games of

(12:44):
his career because his hip hurt. But I read you
those quotes and Paul Pierce kind of sounds like a dB.
And yet, if you actually think of it, if it's
a night dedicated to you, why do you got to
spend a couple of minutes put in the video on
to somebody else. Daniel Jeremiah from the NFL Network joins

(13:06):
the show. Up coming next get his thoughts in the
Steelers parting ways with Todd Haley. Plus we'll look ahead

of course, so you can listen to his podcast Move
the Sticks. You can download that, or you can hear
him or Bucky Brooks, who he uh co hosted with

(14:51):
on the NFL network. Uh DJ. Let me let me
start with Todd Haley relieved officially relieved of his duties today.
Was that the problem with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I don't
think so. I think you can you can point out
a play call here or there in that game and say, okay,
that was kind of a head scratcher. But at the
end result, even if you're throw in the garbage touchdown

(15:13):
at the end um without that, you're looking at thirty
five points. That's enough. You know, that's plenty. But I
think it was just a situation where when you don't
meet expectations, there has to be a penalty. And the
head coach's expertise is on the defensive side of the ball,
so that wasn't where the changes were coming from. They're
gonna come on the offensive side, all right, So who's
the right fit? Well, I mean all but I'm down

(15:36):
here at the East West Shrine game practices, which you know, everybody,
all thirty teams are represented down here, and there seemed
to be a lot of buzz that down here at least,
so they felt like he was gonna be a promotion
from within. Um, so I know there's a bunch of
the names you see thrown around, but that's what the
sentiment is down here. Yeah, the quarterback coach, obviously, somebody
looks like he's gonna get a ton of run. Let's

(15:57):
let's go to New Orleans another team that came up
just short. Obviously on the crazy play on the whift tackle. Um,
have you ever seen a game in like No, not
that I can remember. I mean, look, there's been crazy games,
We've seen it. We seem I've seen a lot of
hail Mary's over the last couple of years with Aaron
Rodgers involved specifically, But no, I can't remember one like that.

(16:18):
It was just bizarre. There are so many options for
for Marcus Williams on that play that that would result
in the win, but the duck in your head and
not slowing him down, which was tackling him and then
taking out your teammate in the process. I mean, it
was just kind of the perfect storm there for that,
for that thing to go down like that. I was
inside watching that. The kids were all playing outside. They came,
they came running the house. They thought something was wrong

(16:40):
because I was screaming, I have no dog in the fight.
I was just shocked. That was in my exact reaction.
And and my kids, we were actually watching it. We
were set to go out to dinner and um my,
you know, my wife went she went to go take
a shower, like she was like, oh, this game's over.
She goes to take a shower. Everybody else's kind of
getting ready to go, like and you know, a kid's stall.

(17:02):
They're all started like we know, we want to watch
the game with dad, and then it just pandemonium. It
was crazy because we like you we have we have
no dog and felt like I don't care who wins.
But the ending was so amazing and so surprising all
you know, the most incredible thing, the most incredible thing
about the whole play, like when you go back and
watch the Hunter times, is that his instincts that you know,

(17:23):
you think your instincts would be okay times running out,
I gotta get out of Aunt, catch the ball, get
out of mount to catch that ball and then to
be able to spin around and keep your wits about
you and realize there's nobody left and to go score.
I mean, that's that's not an easy thing to pull off.
He said he saw the guy's keystone cops each other
and then they ran into each other. But you're right, Uh,

(17:44):
you know, Stefon Diggs to catch the football and then
to look and see nobody there, and then you know,
he almost stepped out of bounds, but somehow maintained his
bunds and then he was he was gone. I'm sure
he's helped by the by the video boards as well,
but it was had to be so quick and when
he picked it up. All right, So robs us of
seeing Drew Brees this weekend. I want to get to
this weekend's matchup. But um no, Drew Brees says he

(18:07):
doesn't want to leave. I'm sure they don't want to
let him go. But doesn't he have to take less
money to keep putting pieces around him. Yeah, it's gonna
be tricky for them, you know how they want to
structure that's going forward. I still think they forgot a
way to get it done. Um, but man, they are
so so close, it might be one of those deals
where you trying to have the heart to heart. I
just know that Drew has been, you know, kind of

(18:27):
very involved with the union, and you know that they
don't like to set the market back, you know, especially
with the Waite Kirk cousins getting ready to drive this
thing up, So that's gonna be tricky for them to navigate.
I tend to agree Danny and Jeremiah joining us on
the Doug Gottlip Show. Um, what do you think happens
with case Keenum after this playoff run? Like the the

(18:51):
Vikings are, It's tricky, right because right now Teddy's not
activated and Bradford's the backup, but nobody thinks that Bradford
could be healthy, even though he looked great when he
did start that Week one game. And then you've got Keenum,
who we know has a ceiling but continues to find
a way to win despite that ceiling. What do you
think have been specifically to Keenum after this playoff front? Well,

(19:12):
it's weird because it's it's a long, pretty long trek
record now going throughout the year where he's played great,
But I still get the feeling that, Okay, everybody's waiting
for that, for that poor game to come, and so
I feel like the pressure is still on him if
he's gonna stay in Minnesota, Like, you can't have a
slip up, he can't have a Conker. So if he
continues to play at the level he's playing, even if
they lose and they you know, s four points and

(19:33):
they're moving the ball like they have been with him,
I think they have to find a way, if you know,
if they want to, they have to tag him. Whatever
you have to do. I think you have to go
in the next season with the guy. I mean, you
just got question marks with Bradford. Tell you've got Teddy
coming off injury. You know exactly what you have after
this this entire season. You know what you have with
case Keenum. I think you have to kind of go

(19:56):
the route that Washington initially did with Cousins, which is, hey,
let's just go year by year office thing. Alright, same
question with Blake Bortles now that Oh my gosh, it
reminds me a lot of Uh, you know, I was
just hadn't got in the league, and I was getting
in right after this, but I went to the Ravens
to start my career. It reminds me so much of them,
you know, winning a championship with Dilfer and then decided

(20:17):
we need to get better at that position and immediately
what's gearbox the next year. Now it didn't work out,
but you just kind of get the sent This jack
team is ready to rip off of you know, three
or four or five year run here, and and I
think if they're true to themselves and honest, they know
that despite some positive glimpses, he's not good enough. That's
Danny Jeremiah from the NFL Network joining us on the

(20:38):
Doug Gotlip Show here on Fox Sports Radio. All right,
let's get let's get into that matchup. Um, Pat's taken
on the Jaguars. These two teams have actually seen each
other on the same practice field, and the Jags, from
all reports not scared of the Patriots. Pats are nine
and a half point favorites. And everybody's like, look, love
the Pats, love the Jags, but they got Blake Bortles. Uh,

(21:00):
what are your thoughts in the possibility that the Jaguars
can pull up this upset? Well, I think they match
up really really well when you look at their pieces defensively, Um,
that you look at historically, what's given the Patriots trouble
inside pressure? And you don't get better than Malik Jackson
and Calais Campbell being able to beat up on guards
uh and get interior pressure on Brady. So you're set

(21:21):
up from that standpoint, they're set up on the outside
to be able to match up there. The one question
is what do you do with eight seven? Um? And
I actually, you know, been pinball on this idea around
with some guys down here. I would say, hey, look,
when they get in the red zone, they have to
put Ramsey on age seven. They have to. I mean
they can't. Let they don't. They'll safety is very church
is a good player, but he can't. He can't mess

(21:41):
with Gronk down there in the red zone. And I
had guys down here staying I think they're craziest. They
don't put Jalen on Ramsey on him from start to finish. Uh,
Stronk away and let and let the chips fall where
they made with everybody else. And I'm like, yeah, you know,
I just kind of think about this, like, yeah, you're
probably right. The problem is though Jeale Ramsey's only six
ft one, right, I mean, yeah, he's long, he's long,

(22:01):
and he can jump, he's you know, so it's it's
the best option that they have, is what it comes
down to. All right, Uh so do you do you
think they can win the game? I think they can
win the game. But I never bet against Tom Bree
in the postseason, and I you know, I just look you,
They've got time to look at this, and uh it's

(22:23):
you four be as you can be coming off that
win over Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh still like we talked about, but
thirty five points up. Uh, there's ways to move the
ball against his defense, and and I would trust Tom
Brady to figure that out. Let's go Vikings versus Eagles.
Seems like a game first one to ten or first
one to fourteen wins. Um. You know, like, look, the

(22:44):
Vikings did win, but the defense showed some holes in
the second half against the Saints, and the offense showed
some of its flaws on the other end. The Eagles,
you know, you had two weeks prepare and you did win.
You did beat the Atlanta Falcons, but the Falcons did
have first and goal from the nine, a chance to
beat you on your own home field. So the winds
they won, you get to move on. But it's not

(23:05):
like they were what the what the Patriots did to
the Titans. Uh, give me your sense of this matchup.
I think it actually. You know, everybody talked about how
physical these teams are. They want to run the ball.
I don't think either one of them are going to
be able to run it when you look at these
defensive front I think it's gonna come down to the quarterbacks.
And I think it's pretty simple. It's just old school
who turns it over, who doesn't, who can protect the football.

(23:27):
And I know Nick Foles has had some ugly games.
I know Kase Keenem has played really well. I just
think when I watched case Keenum, I think he's gotten
away with a couple throws every game, and I just
feel like that's gonna catch up to him at some
point in time, and I think this is gonna be
the week that happens. Um. So you like the Eagles
too win at home? Huh? Yeah, I've been riding with
the Eagles. Man. It's uh. If you'd told me at

(23:49):
the beginning the season that no Jason Peters, no Carson Wentz,
no Jordan Hicks, and I'll be picking the Eagles to
win the NFC Championship game. I say, you're crazy, um,
but I just think their front is so deep and
so talented, and I think they'll generate some turnovers. Bryce
Love returns to Stanford. He would have been what late
first early second round pig. That might be a little rich, um.

(24:10):
I mean when you when you I've watched all those dudes, Doug,
so when I go through it, I know a lot
of people were saying, oh, I would have been the
second or third running back, And I'm sitting here going, well,
I had just give me the order at se Kwon
Barkley one, Darius Guys to uh Ronald Jones three. You
got the to Georgia backs. That gets you to five,
so to me, and you have shot Penny. He was

(24:30):
like the seventh or eighth running back, so I had
him more as kind of a third, fourth round guy.
You you gotta be surprised though, that a running back
comes back to college. Don Oh yeah. I mean everybody
always says, look, you don't want to give your carries
away for free. So you know, I got so many
carries in your body, how many you want to you
want to give those away for free, and Stanford's kind
of notorious for giving those guys the heavy workload. So yeah,
I think everybody expected him to come out. Um, but

(24:53):
you know that's why it's everybody's individual decision. And and
he valued what he could get out of another year there.
And I do think next year. I mean, look, we've
had back to back years Doug of just loaded running
back classes. I haven't started working on next year's group,
but I can't imagine we're gonna see another group like
we've seen the last two years. You said you're down
at the Senior Bowl. Correct, I'm at the East West

(25:13):
right now, Singer Bowl next week. Okay, what's the what's
the buzz about with Baker Mayfield? What's the thoughts from
scouts about about where will he? Will he be a
first round draft pick? Yeah, there's a lot of love
for him down here. Um. You know it really kind
of the two guys that get the most love when
you talk to people are are Baker Mayfield and Sam Donald.
Those are the two that you hear more. It's usually

(25:34):
kind of well, some people think Baker is the best
quarterback in the group. I would say the majority feel
like it's Sam Donald. You don't hear as much about
a Rosen in that group. And really Josh Allen has
a couple of supporters, but you don't hear as much
about him. Next week will be big though, with Mayfield
and with Josh Allen down there in Sible. Why why
not Rosen because of the personality stuff? Yeah, you know what,

(25:56):
it's not even as much that as much as his
his lack of movement, you know, skills when you look
at him when he gets moved off of his spotty struggles.
And man, it's hard to play in this league right
now if you can't get away from a free rusher.
And that's been a little bit of an issue there.
Doug Otlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Um, how sad is
the story out of Washington State? Man? You know Bucky,

(26:19):
You know Bucky are a good friend um high school.
He coached him in high school. And uh, just devastated
for for for the family and for Bucky truthfully, just
as a friend and everybody that knew the kid Bucky
just say it's the half happiest ever ever be around here.
It's just shocked, totally shocked by the whole thing. I mean,
kid is gonna be starting quarterback there. Uh next year,

(26:40):
had everything in front of him. Just a man, it
just rips your heart out. It absolutely absolutely does. All right, well,
we'll we'll have two Super Bowl teams when we talk
to you next week, and maybe some more draft insight
to come. Uh. Dania Jeremiah DJ thanks so much for
joining us in the doug Otlip Show. I appreciate you,
Doug as conditions in the field changed oken your insurance needs.

(27:01):
Talk with the Farmers agent today so you can assess
whether your policies game ready. Find an agent at Farmers
dot com. Are Farmers. Let's bring in Steve to Seger
to find out what else is going on in the
world of sports. Steve, good afternoon to you. There is
college basketball double header on FS one tonight at six
thirty Eastern time, Number one Villanova at Georgetown, then after
that nineteenth rank Seaton Hall at Creighton. Among the ten

(27:24):
NBA games this evening, Golden State at Chicago at eight
pm Eastern time. For the Warriors out tonight Draymond Green
due to a sore shoulder and Andre Iguadala due to
a bruise calf. Golden State has won thirteenth straight on
the road over the last couple of months. The Lakers
whore at Oklahoma City. Lakers forward Brandon Ingram returns tonight
from a sprained ankle, but rookie guard Alonzo Ball is
still out with a spring knee. Memphis will host New

(27:46):
York at eight pm Eastern time. Marcus Al, though questionable
due to illness. Derrick Rose of the calf says he
thinks he'll return tomorrow at Orlando. He's missed almost two
and a half months with a sprained ankle. The Steelers
parted ways with offensive coordinator Todd Haley. He did not
get new contract. Hailey's current deal is expiring. The NFL
says commissioner Roger Goodell will attend the NFC title game

(28:06):
in Philadelphia this Sunday, not the a f C game
in New England. The Cubs resigned veteran reliever Brian Dunsing
two years, seven million dollars. As Eira was two point
seven four last season, was sixty one strikeouts in about
sixty two innings. And Penguins goalie Matt Murray is out
indefinitely after a death in the family. Just two NHL games. Tonight,
Montreal at Boston, then Pittsburgh and Anaheim. Back to you,

(28:30):
m hm, Doug Gotlib Show, Fox Sports Radio. Even the
best athletes are put to the test at times, and
the same goes to your car battery. Luckily auto Zone
offers free battery testings. You never buy a part you
don't need, stopping today getting the zone auto Zone. Um.
I thought about this long and hard, and I was

(28:50):
trying to figure out how to talk about it and
and be sensitive. Uh. Tyler Helinski is Um was supposed
to be the starting orter back this upcoming season for
Washington stad He started for him in the bowl game
and he his body was found last night, a self
inflicted gunshot wound. It's just so sad, I mean, just

(29:13):
absolutely awful that forget about the fact that everybody says
he was a happy kid, but and that he was
you know, we get lost in the while he was
going to be the starting quarterback, right, we don't know
was he a tormented soul inside? But just you know,
when I said to my wife last night, was and like, well,
when you're a parent, among the things that scare the

(29:34):
heck out of you. Like I know that every parent,
especially I've twin daughters that are eleven years old. You know,
you're concerned about their safety. And so some of a
good portion of what's happening on college campuses where they're
cleaning up some of this nonsense guys and what they've
done to two women like you're like, wow, I just
I'm glad. I hope my daughters never have to go
through that. But you also, you know, the emotions of

(29:57):
kids are such that, um, you know, you don't want
your kid to go through battle through depression, you know,
And then do I when a kid is going the
kid has the blues, do you go seek help? Do
you medicate them? There's a lot of different questions that
you have to have if you think your kid is
is depressed. And then this is obviously the worst of

(30:17):
all possible scenarios where no one, there were no signs,
nobody appeared to see it. Um, but what I told
told my wife last night and Ramos, I don't know
if you ever had a conversation like this with your bride,
but I said, you know, God, what when you're twenty
one years old, you start to think what could possibly
be so devastating and have you in such a dark place? Like, look,

(30:42):
I I've I screwed up a lot worse than Tyler
Henski could possibly have screwed up. And you know what,
twenty two years later, like I think I've made it
out of that hole. Like there's just so much, you have,
so much. It's the it's you know what it is,
I would tell and I under I fully understand that
mental when you're going through a mental health issue like depression,

(31:06):
that sensible and reasonable metaphors sometimes don't break through. I
get it, right, I've been depressed myself when I was
in college. But the but I would just Alex Rodriguez, right,
I mean even Alex Rodriguez. Forget about the fact caught
using steroids twice. You go back to was it a

(31:29):
like a year and a half ago. Okay, the Yankees
made him retire. The Yankees wanted to not have to
pay him another penny. The Yankees wanted to embarrass and
based upon the fact that they they gave him like
three days to retire over a weekend where nobody was
paying attention. And you know what, he made it on

(31:50):
the TV on the Fox, and he was great in
that postseason and then he was in there spring training
and helping as a batting instructor, and he was great,
and then he was great again, and and now he's
you know, and now he's dating j Lo. Now that
doesn't mean that if you go through depression you're gonna
end up marrying or dating j Lo and and covering
the World Series. But what it does mean is like

(32:16):
it's a good metaphor for life, Like Alex Rodriguez could
not have been humiliated more based by how Major League
Baseball hand treated him the Yankee Street and they want
to know anyone had anything to do with him. He's
totally toxic, and yet he kind of stayed the course,
reinvented himself. And now I've been told he's probably gonna
be on Sunday Night Baseball and ESPN as well as

(32:36):
Fox's coverage of the playoffs in the World Series. So
just devastating, devastating news. Do you promise you ever talked
to your kids about depression or No? No? Not not? Yeah.
I mean, Sarah's twelve, I mean, I'm sure it's it's
it can be prevalent at that age as well at
any age. Really, Lucas is six, so um, not not

(33:00):
quite yet, but I understand where you're coming from on
those thoughts. No, it's uh, it's it's this this scary,
scary stuff awful. And then, of course, you know, you
feel devastated for the coaches, the players, because, uh, if
you've ever had and I have my wife's family, her
uncle committed suicide, you you know, everyone else is left

(33:26):
with you know, and forgive the forgive the analogy that
to clean up the mess in terms of Okay, should
I have seen this coming where the coaches will be
too hard on him? Was it us? Was it the curriculum?
Was it you know, being from southern California and playing
in the Polus, a place that's very cold and kind
of gray this time of year, Like, what was it?

(33:46):
And even if it, even if it was, none of
them right, just chemical in balance, should have been medicated,
should have had a psychologist, but didn't have any outward
signs of depression. You know whatever, Even if no as
at fault, everybody blames himself. So sad stuff, man, Tyler Helinski,

(34:07):
whole life in front of him, whole life in front
of him. Our friends at Farmers Insurance have invited Fox
Sports Radio back to broadcast life from the Farmers Insurance
open at Tory Pines. This is like one of the
things that I'm most looking forward to about working at
Fox Sports Radio. Dan Buyer did this last year, and
I know he had a blast. He had an absolute blast.
He's gonna play in the in the program as I'm

(34:28):
gonna play in the program, And this is like the
perfect example of what I'm talking about. Like, I consider
all the different elves I've taken in my life, and
next Wednesday, I'm gonna be at Tory Pines teeing it
up in a pro am. That's pretty cool. Visit Farmers

Which game? John? Real news? Fake news? That right, We'll
give you some headlines. You tell me real or fake.
Number one, one of the top free agents in Major
League Baseball right now, is considering holding out until mid

(35:54):
season because teams are not willing to pay him what
he's worth. Real news are fake, real news, They're real
and they're spectacular. This was buried in a Yahoo article
about baseball It's economic system. Quote recently, one of the
best free agents admitted this offseason, I met with a
friend said he was preparing to sit out until the

(36:14):
middle of the season because the market for his services
this winner was so thin. They offer so incompatible with
his production that he was worried he was gonna need
some external force to compel teams to pay him what
his numbers say he's worth. Who was it was? J? D. Martinez? Uh?
That well, he got a nice offer so I don't know,
you could be someone like well j Martinez got a

(36:36):
five year, a hundred million dollar offer, but he wants
a two hundred million dollar offer. This is one of
the stories in sports which we're not doing a great
job of covering, which is there aren't the big money
um nine figure deals in baseball have not happened yet
this offseason, and there are some that believe some of
them believe it's collusion, but a lot of believe that
these uh Major League Baseball people are like, look, you're

(36:58):
under club control for five or six years. After that
you have peaked, and we're gonna pay you for your
past prime production. That doesn't make any sense. And they're
trying to kind of rewrite the rules on free agency.
Free agent hitters have not been signed to big money deals.
It is something very much keep an eye on. Story
Number two to the NBA, the Houston Rockets are still

(37:19):
unsure when James Harden will return from a strained hamstring.
He's been out since their double overtime win against the
Lakers late December. Real news are fake news. Uh, that's
uh fake news. Yes. In fact, the Rockets planned for
Harden to return tomorrow against Minnesota. Barring any setbacks from
practice today, He's missed the last seven games, officially now

(37:42):
listed as questionable for Thursday's home game. Houston went four
and three without h James Harden this year, leading the
NBA and scoring at thirty two points per game and
third in assists at nine assists per game. Of course,
he may be awaiting disciplinary ruling from the NBA as well.
Remember big maybe bigger news in the west of the
Spurs are shutting down Kawhi Leonard for an indefinite period

(38:02):
of time because that quad is still not right. Yeah.
In fact, the way they tried to spin it as
Kauai has made significant progress and continues to move forward
in his rehab. But then you say out of the
same mouth, yeah, we have no idea he he's already
missed the first twenty seven games this season and now
he's out indefinitely. To the NFL, the Patriots would be

(38:23):
a one and a half point underdog against the hometown
Vikings if they were to face off in this year's
Super Bowl in Minnesota. Real news are fake news. It
sounds like Bovada has the lines of possible matchups. The
Patriots would in fact be favored against the Eagles by seven.
Patriots would be favored by three against the Vikings if
that were the matchup. In fact, the Eagles would not

(38:45):
only be underdogs to the Patriots, Eagles would be underdogs
to the Jaguars by two and a half. They say, well,
I can tell you. Look, I don't know anybody who
won't watch the Super Bowl. I just don't know that
those people exist in the real world. Um, but every
Super Bowl this decade, it's got at least a hundre
million viewers. Yeah, but but there will be a substantial

(39:05):
number of people who won't watch if it's the Jaguars
taken on the Eagles, of the Jaguars taking on the Vikings.
I don't know those people, but those people do apparently
exist in the real world. We'll stay in the football world.
Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril thinks if his team is
going to start to rebuild, they should focus on the
d because that's what made him successful in the past.
Real news or fake news that sounds real, Well, it's

(39:27):
kind of fake, because he says in an exclusive Q
and A with NFL Media, if the Seahawks are rebuilding,
they kind of have to rebuild around Russell Wilson because
they paid them all that money. But then he says,
since I've been here, at least, everything's been always defense,
and if the d's playing well getting turnovers, it does
give us more opportunities. Yeah, I mean, like, look, they

(39:48):
have a like he just got a lot of issues.
I mean, you're just putting fingers in the dike if
you will, and everything kind of peace. The new coordinators
offensive bet line has been bad, new coordinators. Defense has
a bunch of the reason since got some holes in it.
But they do have some first world problems because they
have a stud quarterback, stud middle linebacker and some great
weapons to call upon. It's a good way to put it.

(40:10):
Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry led the NFL in receptions
this season one twelve. Real news are fake news. He
is close to signing a contract extension with Miami to
make him one of the top paid receivers in the league.
In fact, he's not happy with how contract talks with
the Dolphins are playing out. Landry's agent told the Miami

(40:31):
Herald the Dolphins made an offer in early December. He
followed with a counter offer shortly after, and they continue
to wait on the team. Landry could become an unrestricted
free agent in March. Landry told the Herald from the
offer process to this point was disrespectful. I've tried to
handle it the right way. Figured if a team values you,
wants to you to be part of the team, well
why haven't they answered this past month? Um? Because they

(40:57):
don't have to. I mean, you know, Landry is for
ever gonna be tied with the Adell Beckham Jr. Because
they're best friends, because they went to the same school,
and because they both think very highly of themselves, and
yet their teams haven't necessarily achieved greatness despite their immense
amount of success. I think wide receivers could be in
the same boat as star hitters in baseball, and that
they don't get the money that they think they rightfully deserved.
Could be tagged four seasons for Landry four hundred receptions,

(41:20):
four thousand yards. By the way, and finally, former UFC
light heavyweight champion John Jones is attempting to clear his
name by taking a polygraph test to prove he didn't
knowingly take performance enhancing drugs. Is that real news or
fake news? Sounds like fake news. They're real and they're spectacular. Well,
according to m M A Fightings UFC sources, Jones past

(41:42):
said test that last month he took a polygraph in
hopes of proving he's telling the truth when he states
he never knowingly took an antabolic steroid or any other
performance enhancer before that fight against Cormier in Annah. This
is game time on the Duck Godli Show. It's not alive.

(42:03):
You believe it, right, John Bones Jones? Is that that
about right? Um? Drew Brees, I don't know if you're
aware of this is a free agent and there are
a lot of teams in the NFL who could use
a quarterback. I love to take one away from a
Super Bowl contender. I'll tell you why. There's absolutely no
path for him to get out of New Orleans. That's
next in the Doug Gotli Show. Boom, What Up America?

(42:23):
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio, Doom, Doom, Doom, doom, No, No,
don't jick or don't don't don't, don't, don't don't. I
hope you're having a great day. I know I am.
Thanks to the awesome folks here in Boise, Idaho. At
Sports Radio six s thirty of the fan in Boise.
I'll be on the call of the Boise State Utah

(42:46):
State game. I know, I know ratings galore be on
Facebook tonight, so I got a chance. There's a huge
I get to go and see a bunch of hoop
games this week. I was at Miami Duke calling that
game on radio on Monday, this game tonight, Tomorrow Oregon
State U see l A, and then Saturday Stanford Arizona.
So I'll see a bunch of hoop games. Hopefully my
picks won't be as as they have been recently. Sometimes

(43:08):
you know too much, you end up knowing too little
on some of those picks. Yeah, that that's my That's
my latest excuse for you. That's the best I can
That's that's the best I can do in terms of excuses.
Um Drew Brees is a free agent, and he came
out and said that he doesn't want to be anywhere else. Now,
if you think that what these guys say, it's what

(43:31):
they actually mean. I give you Ben Roethlisberger, who everyone everyone,
I believe wanted Todd Haley out. He and Todd Haley
didn't get along for a while, and though at times,
it was a relationship to which they could function when
things went badly. Haley's out of a job and bending up.
Roethlisberger has already said he's coming back, but Big Ben

(43:55):
said two days ago, Hey, I don't really want any
I don't think we should make any changes. So the
team fires Todd Haley. If you think that's if Ben
really meant that. Do you think for a second that
if Ben Rothsberger really wanted Todd Haley as his offensive coordinator,
he wouldn't still be his offensive coordinator, right to come on?

(44:17):
Come on? Uh. Drew Brees actually a free agent at
the end of this season, which is now obviously, he
had this to say yesterday as to where he'll play
next year two days ago, the same where twelve years ago,
that I'll be here as long as they'll happen. Hopefully

(44:38):
I'll be here as long as they'll have me. But
he is a free agent, and who wouldn't I mean, like, look,
there's Arizona out there, Um, the Giants could be out there.
The Jets need a quarterback, the Browns need a quarterback.
I mean, you kind of go through this list and

(44:59):
you're like, wow, there's a lot of teams that could
that could use it. His most recent one year contracts
extension was worth twenty four point two five million dollars,
was the fourth highest average salary in the NFL this year.
So he'd been getting paid and the Saints are like, look,
we'd love to have you, but we probably gonna have
the value back. Some probably gonna have to value back s.

(45:24):
There's multiple places that he could go. I mean, how
he could go to Minnesota and they get rid of
all three of those guys, he go to Minnesota next year.
So Drew Brees a free agent. But the problem with
the idea of Drew Brees going elsewhere is it's tricky.
It's tricky for the Saints because they can't they can't
give him a huge, long term deal. He's small, there's

(45:45):
some limitations to him. He doesn't play as well outside. Um.
You know, they're just how long a deal you're going
to give him? How much money are you going to
give him? Because some point he will start to fade.
If he didn't, if they didn't kind of protect him
this year, he may have already faded already. And yet

(46:08):
you can't embarrass him, you can't low ball, and you
can't give him such a little money that you don't
recognize him as Drew Brees. Do. I think it gets
worked out. I do, And that's because first, Breeze is
in a tough spot, right, Breeze is one of these guys.
It's like you've been married a long time and the
girl that you always wanted to ask, always wanted to
take out in uh in high school has just now

(46:32):
become available. Like, dude, you're in a relationship. Yeah, the
relationship is not going great. That's okay, You're in a relationship.
You just can't. You can't. So you can't galivant around
the country going to Arizona. You can't go to Denver
and say, hey, what if you can't go to the

(46:52):
Jets and say how much would it be worth to you?
You can't go to Cleveland and and put yourself out there.
You just can't. Can you? Sure you can? Like, I mean,
there's married guys out there that they're they flirt and
they're just like, hey, I'm just being friendly. I'm just flirting.
End of the day, I'm coming back. Um, But make

(47:13):
no mistake about it. He wants to get paid. And
while Kirk Cousins is much younger than him. There's twenty nine,
Teddy Bridgewater is only Sam Bradford did have a great game.
Matt Moore, Brian Fitzpatrick, Case, Chase Chase, Daniel brock Oswallow.

(47:34):
These are the guys he's competing against in free agency.
So he is the biggest, boldest name outside of Garoppolo
who we know will either be franchised will be signed
for a long term deal. And what the Saints do, Like, look,
I think Brees is um. He's forever, forever tied to

(47:55):
the Saints. He's their greatest ever player, right Like, Look,
could you imagine this scenario which he goes elsewhere, He
goes to Arizona and reinvents himself, or he goes to
Denver with that defense, Yeah I could. I could see it,
and you bring it. Maybe then the Saints trade for
Eli Manning and bring Eli home for his last couple

(48:16):
of years. Yeah, I could see it. I can see it, um.
But um, what I can't see is the reality of
him leaving New Orleans as their greatest ever football player.

(48:38):
Like this is mm hmm. Steve Seger, You're you're a
little bit you're a little bit older than me, even
though I just had a birthday. Okay, so no, this
is uh so Steve hold on for a second, Ryan Music,
You're obviously much younger than me. So Ryan, when you
think of the Saints, you only think of the Drew

(48:58):
Brees era, correct, Yeah, for the most part, because other
before Drew Brees, they were almost just nameless, out of sight,
out of mind. Well, they did have a couple of
They did have a couple of good teams, uh in
the nineties. But but they were in the eighties. They
were the Aints right the sea. You remember when they
were the Ants, they went their first thirty years without

(49:19):
winning a playoff game. When Drew Brees chose to go there,
it was like he was going to Saudi Arabia. Well
that was his last possible stop spot because he had
the bad shoulder, and people think he thought he couldn't
play an now they did. They had I think Aaron
was what was the was Aaron Brooks was their quarterback
right before before him, and he had some talent and

(49:41):
he they actually want a playoff game with him. Um,
but I don't think most people, most modern day sports
fans remember the Saints were the Browns. I mean, in
many ways, they were the Browns in the eighties. They
had fans wearing bags over their head. They were the
laughing stock of of the NFC. You absolutely were. And

(50:02):
to go from that to being winning a Super Bowl
and I know that they've had, you know, five years
they didn't make the playoffs after the plate gate, but
this year to be back in the playoffs and to
be one play away from moving on the NFC champion
your game, like, that's big stuff. I just don't think.
I just don't think he can do it. I just
it's one of those free agent in name only. They're

(50:23):
gonna have to find a way to work it out.
Both sides are way to invest in the other music.
Do you agree with that or do you? I mean,
do you look else do you look elsewhere of your breeze? Yeah,
I mean it's really it's really hard, but I almost would.
I just don't. I think the idea behind players leaving

(50:45):
and has sort of been debunked that it somehow becomes unreparable,
Like if Brett Farve can go back to the Packers
now and they can embrace him, and Peyton Manning got
sort of pushed out of Indianapolis and then he came
back and you know, still ties to that franchise. I
think in the moment it feels like a big deal.
But if you have a chance to make another run

(51:07):
out of championship, I think that you can still capitalize
on that. He just got to the playoffs this year.
He has a tremendous right exactly, and that that's where
I will agree with you that I don't think that
there are many other teams that are in a far
greater position to succeed than what the Saints are in
right now. But the idea that he just can't leave

(51:28):
because he's the face of what the resurgence of the
Saints franchises, I don't really buy into well and what
he means to the community. I mean, you talked exactly
about their history, and that's worth mentioning. They didn't have
a winning record in the first twenty years as a franchise.
Drew Brees is now the greatest New Orleans Saint ever
and as I recall, still spends half the year there

(51:50):
and has kids in school in San Diego. He started
with the Chargers. He did, he did he San Diego
is still home. He has a flag football league in
San Diego. Um, I just I don't think he can
leave the Saints. I think both of them are tied
to one another. I think this is one of those
I don't know if he got marriage of convenience or whatever.
It's like Tony Gwen and the Padres right, because he

(52:13):
was rolling his eyes taking hometown discounts by the end.
But he's Mr Padre. He's the greatest Padre ever and
so his whole career finished his career with the Padres.

give us some analysis in the quarterback position? Uh Dan?
Were we all wrong about Bortles or did he just
play out of his mind on Sunday? I think it's
the latter. I think he played out of his mind.
You know, he's got this defense that can play at

(53:44):
such a high level that he doesn't have much pressure
on him. So you can go be a little bit
more aggressive of a little bit more free with this
play because he knows, Man, if I turned it over,
my defense has got my back. The defense is getting
them turnovers an opportunistic situations and positions. So yeah, I
think they're utilizing your talent pretty good and personnel and
they're running the ball better, which makes it easier obviously

(54:06):
on the corner of quarterback. I don't anticipate him to
go up to you know, Gillette this weekend and light
the world on fire. But you know, I just think
it's it's the product of his defense being so good
that he's allowed to play a little bit freer, and
sometimes that leads to pretty good play, and sometimes that
leads to you know, bigger mistakes, and it's kind of
that roller coaster ride for him. Yeah. I mean, like, look,

(54:27):
the week before he ended up kind of winning the
game with his feet running the football when he threw
the ball so poorly, seemed to lose a lot of
confidence even in this throwing, whereas this past week he
kept taking some shots down the field and finally hit
some That's where he had his confidence. Um confidence a
just a huge part. Give me your sense. I look
the past defense not great against the past, not great

(54:47):
against the run. It feels like they short what they
shorten the game. Try to give it to Leonard four
nett get get him into third and manageable, and then
you decide if you're gonna let let him loose. Is
that probably the game plan? Well, you know, knowing having
played against Belichick and kind of knowing the storyline of him.
I don't anticipate Belichick going, Okay, well, we're gonna, you know,

(55:09):
figure out a way to get them in the third
and short. I think he's gonna obviously go Okay, Leonard Fournette,
you're doing nothing against dust and we're going to test
and challenge Bortles to push the ball downfield. You know.
Lastly against the Steelers, Jacksonville did a really good job
of early on kind of keeping doing some naked and
getting the ball at up Blade's hands and situations early

(55:29):
on with easy throws. I don't anticipate in New England
allowing him to do that either. So the thing that
I think Jacksonville has is and they showed it once
last week. They had this kind of trick play, you know,
where they faked an inside run down in the red
zone and he blessed the fullback on the linebacker and
he goes down the middle of field for a touchdong.
You know. In the NFL, coaches have these trick plays

(55:51):
that they practice all throughout the year, and they have
this kind of bag or three or four or five
of them, and they always want to call them if
the situation throughout the season presents itself, and Jacksonville really
hasn't had many of them this year just because the
situation probably hasn't presented itself. I think that if Jacksonville
really wants to, you know, breed some confidence into their team,

(56:11):
into their offense, I'm unloading the bag of tricks that
I have early on because my best chance to go
up there and win, especially offensively, is to try and
jump up early on them. And I don't anticipate them
doing this methodical stuff as an offense going first down,
second and seven, third and four. I don't think Belichick
is gonna allow him to do it. So that is,
you know, I think it is the best way to

(56:32):
get Bortles to go play well. Danilobski joining us in
the Doug Gotlip Show, what about what about Tom Brady
and his matchup against the Jags defense? Right, Like, all
we've ever been told is if you can get pressure
up the middle, get him off his spot, he can.
You can manage him as a quarterback, you can. He'll
miss on some throws. We saw it last year in
the first half of the Super Bowl against the Falcons.

(56:53):
First three quarters, really we saw it against Miami couple
of weeks ago. Does Jacksonville's defense, especially their front forward,
they fit the blueprint for what it takes to force
him off that spot. Oh, they're the one team in
the NFL that fits it, you know. I mean, like
you said, the narrative is rush for get home with
those guys and cover with seven. Everyone knows the formula,

(57:14):
but very few people have the ability to actually go execute.
Very few people. You know, teams don't have the humans
to go do it. It It sounds good until the whistle blows.
So they bots up incredibly well, you know, top to bottom.
Their front for is incredibly athletic, fast and big. They've
got linebackers, you know, New Engdon obviously loves to use
their backs well. Kelvin Smith and Myles jack Or is athletic,

(57:36):
is as any linebacker duo in the league. So they
match up there well. On the outside, they've got the
physical corners that can go and get in your face.
They've got good safeties, you know. The matchup for me,
you know, I think New England is probably gonna try
and play with tempo like they do. They'll spread them out,
quit throws with Brady and play with tempo, but Jacksonville,
I don't think Jex has nothing to lose, and so

(57:59):
I think defensive they're gonna go, okay, Well, if that's
the game you guys want to play, let's do it.
And they're gonna get up in their faces of their
receivers and get physical. So the variable that I think
Jacksonville really can benefit from his so many teams question
of how are we gonna treat Grounk. No one has
a Daven Ramsey and he's right now, head and shoulders,
the best corner and really back end player in the

(58:22):
NFL right now, and he's a guy that you know,
if Jacksonville really wants to go okay, we're not gonna
let Gronk beat us. I see them putting Jalen Ramsey
on Gronk as much as they can, and man and
man situations because you know, Grant is such a good
job of getting open because he's got those little nuances
that receivers do. He can use his elbow and create space.

(58:42):
He'll lean on guys and create space. And it's either
a safety is too little to do it or a
linebacker is too big to kind of run with them. Well,
Jalen is big enough to handle that stuff, and he's
smart enough to know, Okay, his stem on his route
is trying to get open this way, or he's trying
to lean on me for this stuff. So I think
that it's gonna be in Jacksonville's favor and they just

(59:02):
match up. Well, they have the formula to do it,
and then they have the ability to go execute the formula.
It's gonna be a good matchup. Yeah, it's interesting the
ground thing. Everyone's saying, put Jalen Ramsey on him, But
isn't there a doesn't that? Doesn't that in any way
take away from who Jacksonville is, especially considering Grant can
line up uh as a tight end. You know, he

(59:23):
can be in motion in the backfield, he can split
out wide like they can move him around. Can't that
screw up the rest of the Jags defense? Well, you
have a rule where hey, if he's ever in the
backfield or if he's extended, Jalen, you've got him. If
he's on the line of scrimmage, then you have a
backer cover them. But here's the thing, so New England always,
you know, every coach in the NFL says, you know,

(59:44):
during the regular season, well, this is a process. We
want to trust the process that we want to get better,
and then they get into the postseason and then it's listen,
we known more is that our narrative. Our narrative is
to figure out an exact game plan of how to
execute and go in. And if you watch them in Tennessee,
they moved Gronk around. They got Gronk in some crazy matchups,

(01:00:04):
and I wish more teams had that mindset in the postseason.
So if I'm Jacksonville, I'm going listen, this is the
best way for us to match up. And if Jalen
can cover Gronk, if Brady's gonna throw a fifty times
and Jalen Ramsey's on Gronk thirty or forty of them,
does that give us our best chance to win against
the Patriots. It may not work against other teams, and
it may have to change a little bit of who

(01:00:25):
we are, but to beat the Patriots you need to
because the Patriots are the team who beats everybody else
because they change a little bit of who they are
in the playoffs. And I wish teams kind of took that.
You know, that simplistic approach a going. Okay, this is
we've gotta change a little bit who we are because
the team that we're playing does it themselves and they're
so good at it. So I know that kind of
changes their their foundation. But I'm not gonna let Gronk

(01:00:47):
beat me. If I get beat by a Mendola, I
get beat by a Mendola. But I'm certainly not gonna
let the best player on their team and the best
tight end in the league do it. Dan Orlowski joining
us in the Dug Out Live Show, This is like
every backup quarterbacks dream uh for in Philadelphia and in Minnesota.
It's not just the opportunities that they both have, but

(01:01:08):
they both have outstanding defenses, they both have good run games. Uh.
They both are very well coached the offensive side of
the ball, right. I mean, you know, Philadelphia's head coach
is a you know, former quarterback in his own right
and a good play caller. Uh. Pat Schermer obviously is
gonna get a head coaching job probably with the Giants here.
So like, you're well coached, surrounded by good players, and
your defense is gonna give you a plenty of opportunities

(01:01:28):
to win the game. Uh. This is a backup quarterbacks dream.
Let's start with Nick Foles. Uh, they had plenty of
time to prepare, tweaked their offense, but now what they
put in is on tape. Give me your sense of
how Hill fare against against Minnesota. Yeah, you know, I
get a little bit confused with the whole narrative behind
Nick Foles because everyone talks about him like he's just

(01:01:51):
some you know, bum who's never had success in the NFL.
I mean, if you take away the Dallas game this year,
which was basically week for the pre season for them,
when he threw like ten passes, and I know he
struggled against Oakland, but he played good in l A
when he had to come in. He played good against
the Giants, and he played really well last week. So
the there's kind of this perception out there that he's

(01:02:11):
he's just this guy and just because he's in a
backup role. So you know, he executed a game plan
against Atlanta and people say, well he didn't push the
ball downfield. Well, advantis defensive structure doesn't allow you to
the That's how guys at that position make mistakes. So
I thought he just executed really well. And Doug Peterson
called a fantastic game. You know this week, Minnesota allows

(01:02:32):
you to push the ball down field more because they
play more in your face coverage. Now, the way to
attack them is you really have to send crossers across
the field, like two or three guys just flooding the zone.
The benefit for Folds is if you watch tape on him,
that's by far his best throw is like an eighteen
to twenty two yard kind of crossing the field throw.

(01:02:53):
If if Philly can kind of manipulate some stuff to
get guys flooded into zones and dropped back and then
in some play action stuff, I think both can have
some success. In New Orleans did it last week, just
not enough, So I think he can have some success.
And I like you and mentioned his coaching staff is
so good. They've got three guys under staff and Peterson,

(01:03:14):
frank Reich and d Flippo that really really understand the
position and how to attack defenses. So I think Fos
is set up to have another good game as long
as he just goes and executes the offense. What about Keenam,
You know cases kind of has he has this narrative
around him like he's checked down Charlie right, and just

(01:03:34):
dink and dunk. But if you really watch him, he's
ultra aggressive with the football. He's he's you know, he's
been playing quarterback and he was a kid, and he's
always had this arm that was incredibly accurate and could
throw with timing anticipation, but not big. And so he's
finaling an offense that really shoots those sates. And when
plays are called, you know, I referenced that like when

(01:03:57):
Tiger Woods stands on number one, a Augusta will always
feel good about it because it matches his eyes. And
I think that's what's happened with Tenam is he's when
he's hearing his play calls, it's where he's been running
and comfortable with his whole life. And it's got a
lot of you know, the the verbiage is different than
what he did in college, but a lot of the
spacing and the timing of it is similar. So he
feels incredibly comfortable about it. So I think that what

(01:04:19):
you're seeing is a guy that's just ultra confident and comfortable. Now,
for all that being said, and and for how smart
he's played, he gets reckless with the football for two
or three times again, which kind of like head scratches
because he's so smart. And he did it three times
against New Orleans last week. Twice it you know, it
worked out for me through back across his body late

(01:04:39):
to ceiling and then once just kind of scrambling through
and up in the air to ceiling, and another time
it was picked off. So New Orleans really only capitalized
once on the the three kind of really really you know,
bone helidd careless place. So you know, if he can
minimize that successful against the Eagles defense, but he hasn't
shown to do it. He's done it a this year,

(01:05:00):
and so the Eagles. The Eagles want to win, they've
got to capitalize on that stuff. But cases playing at
such a good, consistent level. It's you know, both those guys.
That's a credit to them for kind of sticking with
it and playing at a high level. Alright, last thing
you tweeted out about Mike Munchak getting fired, Dani Rolovski
joining his fam on Twitter has verified account as at
Dani Rulovsky seven. I'll quote see Mike Mike mclarkey. I'm sorry,

(01:05:24):
I was Mike mclarkey got fired in in uh in Tennessee,
and you put, I hate to see when good people
get fired. To think of finding somebody to just have
Mariott to run the ball? Is the answer is the disaster.
He'll last four games, he would survive, he would thrive
in a similar offense to Jared Goff. So if it
is Brayble and it's been rumored to be vable as

(01:05:44):
their head coach, can he get an oc who runs
that sort of scheme? Dan? You you know guys that
scheme that way. Is there somebody that you would hand
pick for a young quarterback like Marcus Mariotta to be uh,
to be in his ear and teaching him a new offense. Yeah.
So there's a guy that I was you know, Matt
Lafleur I've had. I was in Houston. Yep. He's the

(01:06:08):
offensive coordinated with the Rams. I had him maybe seven
or years ago. Is a quality control guy with the
Houston Texans when I was down there, and he was
just learning his way through the system and built his
career up and then went to Atlanta and had some
success with the Rams last year. And I know Sean
McVeigh was really the guy. But at some point Sean
McVeigh got his opportunity, and at some point Matt Lafleur

(01:06:31):
needs to get his opportunity. He he really this is
his strength. He understands how to attack defenses. Now, you
never know how good of a play caller a guy
is until he actually has to do it. But I
will say this, if you no under if you know
how to understand, if you understand and know how to
attack defenses, and you come from if you come from
good teaching and how to be dynamic and creative, which

(01:06:55):
is you know what I think Mariota needs. He needs this.
You know, I kind of liken him to like I
next level Jake Plumber, a more dynamic Jake Plumber where
you get him on the edges of bunch, But it's
not it's it's more more creative than just springing him
out and running two routes. You know, just as dynamic
and creative as you can be with some ball fakes
and play actions and pocket movement stuff. So the flour

(01:07:16):
is the one guy that I go that I know
at least that I've been around and going well. That
guy understands how to attack defenses, you understand how to
be creative. And he's also watched for a couple of
years of Collee Shannahan and Sean McVeigh doing at the
highest level. So you know, that's the question that I
have is if it's Bradle can brable? Can he get
someone like that for Marcus? I would guess that there's

(01:07:36):
some sort of package deal, right like, you can't uh
there there. You know, you don't get a job like
that unless you have an answer to that very question.
We'll see what that answer is. Dan, great, great job.
Thanks so much for joining us to give us your
perspective in the NFL. Yeah, thank you for hearving me man,
I truly appreciate it. As Danilovsky at Dania Lovsky seven

We'll start with the Steelers parting ways with offensive coordinator
Todd Hayley did not get a new contract. Technically, his
current deal is expiring. The NFL says Commissioner Roger Goodell

not the a f C game in New England. And
Tom Brady, Patriots quarterback, did skip his media availability today,
meeting instead with the team medical staff. Brady listed as

it looks like he could come back from his knee

He had worked with Kiffen at Alabama. Kendall Briles had

New members of the committee will include Ronny Lotts and

also the A D s at Florida, Oklahoma and Georgia Tech.
The Cubs resigned veteran reliever Brian Dunsing two years, seven

Derrick Rose of the Cabs says he thinks he'll return tomorrow.
Houston's James Harden was upgraded to questionable for tomorrow, could

(01:09:23):
finally be back from the strain hamstring, And the Spurs
say Kawaide Letard is out indefinitely recovering from his quad
tendon injury. Spurs or at Brooklyn one of ten NBA
games tonight back to you, he's definitely out right, He's
definitely out indefinitely. Yeah, definitely indefinitely. Like like Camp, they
had to finally say he's not making Opening Day, and

(01:09:46):
then it turns out he wasn't making the first twenty
seven games. So this call it indefinitely now and be
done with it. And Kawhi Leonard, by most people's account,
the third best player in the NBA, maybe the best
UH two way player in the NBA. Auto's own uh

you never by a part you don't need stopping today
getting the zone auto Zone. Um, you remember we talked
about the LaVar Ball comments going back a week ago,
and that it wasn't necessarily what he said, because if

(01:10:28):
you actually listened to LaVar's comments with Jeff Goodman, Goodman
kind of dragged out of him something that was discussed
off air, and LaVar said it was only his opinion
from watching on TV. The problem with it is the
perception that he gets the stuff from his son, and
the problem with is that his son had only said
I can play for anybody, not Lukewallen's my coach. Rick

(01:10:51):
Buker from bleacher Report wrote a piece that's out today.
It's on Twitter and on bleacher report dot Com. He's
gonna join us next hour. I'll ask him about this article.
But the quote from an NBA executive is um that

(01:11:11):
that Alonzo could end this thing right away right the
quote the kid could stop all of it. One VP said,
all he has to say to the media is he
doesn't speak for me. If you want to talk about
the Lakers, speak to me, don't speak to my dad.
But he won't do it now. A Lonzo was out
in their loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. They played at
night in Oklahoma City. He's gonna sit out, brandon ingram

(01:11:33):
is gonna be back in and they haven't fared well
when he wasn't playing. On the other hand, when he
has played, he's played against some of the worst teams
in basketball, the Sacramento Kings, the Phoenix Suns and who
else was it so in the Atlanta Hawks, Right, So, yeah,
they got some wins, but they got wins against the

(01:11:55):
worst teams in the NBA. I agree with that though, Like, look,
if you at some point you're gonna have to be
your own man. But if you notice that he's played
better since his dad is not stateside, whether it's the
pressure of his dad or the pressure of whatever his
dad's gonna say. And and oh yeah, and Jeff Goodman
from ESPN having left Lithuania cuts off his ability to

(01:12:18):
have a microphone problem. The var ball could not be
happy with the fact that the only way he's covered
his view of the long line on Facebook, uh, because
there is no network or even cable TV dollars to
this point in which they want to fall around. I mean,
maybe this reality show he's doing ends up being a

(01:12:38):
hit and he becomes Ryan Seacrest and all he does
is is get other sports families to film their own
reality show and he executive produces it. Maybe maybe that works,
but the whole problem is, like everything you do is
built based upon the premises, Um, we actually do something.
We are a basketball family. But the irony too that

(01:13:04):
is that this is the type of thing that gets
you out of the NBA. There's lots together. There's there's
four spots in the NBA. That's at four, and some
guys eat their way out. Some guys sleep their way out,
some guys snort their way out, some guys argue their
way out. This is something that can get you out
of the league if you're not careful, if if people,

(01:13:25):
if you don't have any sort of voice in leadership,
and your dad does, and your dad starts calling out teammates,
he can end very very poorly and very poorly. So
why doesn't he call his dad out? I mean that's
just part of the you know, I had one of
these relationships with my dad. Now, my dad was a

(01:13:45):
much more accomplished coach than the var Ball, not this
accomplished as a player to La var Ball, of course,
played Division one average to a game, and then he
played Division two and he he did play well. You
average over I think like eight ninety in a game. Uh,
but I do understand the idea of, hey, my dad's
not wrong here, right. You want to go down, that's fine,

(01:14:07):
that's absolutely fine. But you can't have him do is.
You can't have him bring you down when he's not
even in the discussion. And then I guess the question
is will they get past the point of no return
with a Lonzo ball? All I can tell you is,
as of now, there has been no discussion about firing uh,
firing Luke Walton. It just hasn't. Would you love it? Bigger?

Rob park you have in the weekends on radio on
Fox Sports Radio. He had these ten reasons the Jaguars
will beat the Patriots in the FC champip game. Going
to play better defensively, Jacksonville was going to get to
Tom Brady and you go look at the history of
Tom Brady and a f C championship games. When you
disrupt him, when you get to him, you alter who

(01:16:36):
this guy is and they have that kind of defense
up front. Listen to this. This is a very interesting
stat and before you go to Burger King, I want
to make sure it gets on the airs. When Tom
Brady faces in the playoffs a team that's had forty
eight or more regular season sacks, so an elite pass rush.
In seven games, Brady has nine touchdowns and nine picks

(01:17:00):
in a passer rating of seventy seven. Jacksonville is the
best pass rush in the NFL. Brady, remember the last
time we saw him in Denver. Look at Brady when
he faces a team in the playoffs that is a
an elite pass rushing team, he struggles. Do you think
they can beat New England. I think they will beat
New England. I really do. I've been on Jacksonville all year.

(01:17:22):
I've been watching that team defensively what they did, and
any other part is the defense didn't do their job yesterday, right, Okay,
and they won the game, all right. I mean like, look,
I understand that when you get to Brady it's a
completely different defense. I get that, right, Um, But I

(01:17:44):
would also tell you that, uh a seven or seventy
whatever passer rating for Tom Brady might well be enough. Right,
So I look, and a lot of this is we
can't compare comparables because it's not the same. Who Jacksonville
played this year is not the same as who New

(01:18:05):
England played this year. Um. I don't actually believe they
have the best pass rush in the NFL. I would,
I would say that the Chargers have a better pass rush.
Chandler Jones actually former Patriot seventeen sacks in the year
we give Clais Campbell we've had on And first, I'm
super happy for Klais. You know, he gets out of
Arizona just in time, and look what he's done. But

(01:18:26):
you know, any but any of us who have watched
Calais Campbell know that he hadn't had a sack since
uh he had two against Houston. Like his stats have
wide variances of success. He's second in the NFL and sacks,
but he had he had six against in two games
against the Houston Texans, Right, So it's not like it's

(01:18:48):
not like he's been dominant getting to the quarterback all
year long. And when he hasn't gotten the quarterback like
the Tennessee games second game of the year, they didn't win.
Um when he didn't get to the quarterback against Tennessee
in the last game of the year, didn't win against
San Francisco, didn't win. This defense actually has given up
what forty two points last week. I'll be at one

(01:19:08):
touchdown the buzzer and forty four points to San Francisco.
That's in two of the past three games that they played.
So I like Jacksonville or two in the past four
games they played. I like Jacksonville a great deal. I
do not think it's as good a pass rush as
you're being led to believe. I do think that they
can if they can force Brady off the spot, they

(01:19:29):
can make him look human. But I would all and
I would tell you that, like, you know, the classic
way of beating Tom Brady is to keep him off
the field, run the football, keep the chains moving. And
this is a Jacksonville team that did not have a
three and out last week, not one, so on paper, yeah,

(01:19:51):
the problem is they've only lost three home games during
the entire Belichick Brady era. And I don't know about you,
but this is the week I'm feeling like betting on
the upset. Could it be a closer game? Yeah? Look,
these are these are reasonable thoughts from a normally unreasonable
man in um uh in Rob Parker, right, like Rob

(01:20:14):
Parker loves to poke the bear a little bit right
and take a take a little bit of a stronger
stance than maybe need be. On the other hand, it
should be pointed out that and so and these are
but these are not crazy statements. But it doesn't mean
that it will come true. And that's what the Fox said. Oh,

(01:20:41):
at Farmers, as conditions on the field change, so can
your insurance needs. Talk with the farmer's agent today so
you can assess whether your policy is game ready. Find
an agent at Farmers dot com. I don't think it's crazy.
I don't think it's crazy to bet on the Jaguars.
Don't think it's crazy. I just push comes to shove,

(01:21:04):
and man Brady seems to find a way to make place,
don't he. I saw this article that Jeff Passon wrote
for for Yahoo Sports, and if you've been reading, you
know what's normally called the hot stove liak like. Look,
I've covered national sports trading for fifteen years, fifteen years,
and this is, without any question, the dullest hot stove
league ever. And why is that? Because outside of John

(01:21:27):
Carlos Stanton being traded to the Yankees, and that is
a big move. They got Stanton, they got judged, they
got a hell of a team, helve a lineup. Outside
of that, we haven't seen j. D. Martinez sign. Um,
we haven't seen a new deal for Bryce Harper. We
haven't seen any landmark contracts being being signed normally. Like

(01:21:50):
in the every every other sport, it becomes like a
game of topper, right, It's like last year before the
season was before the season begin Yet, Um, you know
the Lions end up given the biggest contract in the
history of the game to their quarterback. Why well, because
it was his turn up. We haven't seen that in

(01:22:10):
baseball this from Jeff Passon. He talked to a union official.
I'm not sure it's not just the structure that's been
in place for all these years that makes sense anymore.
Where everybody is prepared to blow that up is a
completely Whether everybody's prepared to blow that up as a
completely different question. Of course, it doesn't make sense. We

(01:22:31):
pay you the minimum for three years, arbitration for three
or four, then you get paid for free agency for
your decline. Doesn't make sense. Will Baseball completely change their scale?
We'll see, We'll see. Sometimes you try and do something
really nice for someone, but you make him look like
an ass. Happened in Boston, talk about it. Next? What

(01:22:52):
up you? This is the Dug out Leave show, Fox
Sports Radio. Comment to you actually live and direct today
from the Treasure Valley. Have you ever been a Boise Idaho?
I got a great boys eat my last time in Boise, Idaho.
I will have a great story I'll share with you
in in mere moments. Um. I want to talk about
the Paul Pierce retirements story, uh story, which has become

(01:23:18):
quite entertaining, quite entertaining. We'll get to that in like
two or three minutes. There's a story out that college basketball,
the players may be allowed to transfer without penalty. I
have to tell you that that is an end of
day's scenario for most basketball coaches. It will be an
epic and complete disaster. In other words, you can transfer

(01:23:39):
without penalty, sitting out, without sitting out, and then if
you graduate on time, you can transfer again without penalty
and without sitting out. It will be bad, bad, bad,
bad bad for basketball. You're like, well, the coaches don't
have to sit out now they have to play buyouts
of millions of dollars. But other than that is no

(01:24:00):
penalty at all for them switching jobs. Uh so, and
you know, but we'll see. Uh My. My fear is
that people who commentate on basketball, um commentate on basketball
are ruining basketball, and their intent is simply to create

(01:24:23):
a fair and level playing field for players. As the
same as uh as the same as coaches. But here's
where people are wrong. Okay, kids don't have the same
rights as parents. We I have this discussion with my kids, ramas,
I don't know your daughter's eleven, right, so I don't
I don't know of twelve, I don't know if your
your your kids argue like my kids argue, but they're like,

(01:24:45):
they're like, hey, don't I get a chance to speak, Like, no,
that's actually not the way it works. They're like, why not.
I'm a person, Like you're a person, but you're this
is like uh uh, you know, you're like three quarters
of a person. Sorry to take away from the original
the original constitution, you're not a full person. You do
not like you can if I allow you to like, no,

(01:25:07):
this is not this is not a debate. We are
not arguing the merits of my stance. I am the parent.
You are the child, period. Stop and the story. It's
the same thing with kids and teachers. Teacher asked you
to do something, you do it. Policeman asked you to
do something. You do it. Professor asked the student to
do something. Professor is completely different than the athlete. And

(01:25:30):
I don't know what's the matter with writers and with
some analysts. I don't understand what went wrong in your
life that you don't understand. You are not the same
as a coach. You're not you're you're not. And while
you can say, well, they're not held to the same stand,
you're right, you're right. Coaches, for the most part, in

(01:25:53):
their personal lives are held to a much higher standard
and should be than the student athletes. Um, but they're
also professionals. It's a completely different scale. So I I
just this this. It reminds me that the J bill
is I can't believe they have to sit out. Yeah,
you have to sit out. That's the deal. You signed

(01:26:15):
a scholarship, a life changing piece of paper that grants
you not only admittance to a college you probably couldn't
get into, but full grant made hard to get into,
hard to pay for than ever before in the history.
In the last ten years, the cost of college has
got up sixty per cent. Wow, that's a lot, a

(01:26:36):
lot that does not keep up with wages that is
post tax. It's also hard to get into the ever.
So I you know, I don't know what won't won't,
what went what went wrong with so many of these people,
but damn they are scarred. And I'm telling you, like,
I saw Duke play two nights ago, and I'm like,
why doesn't Duke have any bench? Because anybody who's assigned

(01:26:58):
to coming off the bench from Duke is like, check please,
I want to transfer. And that's what everybody's gonna do
if they don't. I don't start. I'm going to another
school and it will ruin the sport, which is already uh,
pretty much on on life support. It just is. The
n c A tournament is not the tournaments not because
of the bracket. That's it. That's why people care about it,

(01:27:19):
because they all put money in on the bed, on
the bracket. Every grandma, every grandpa, every kid. They're all
into the tournament, the sport, the season bad. My last
time in Boise, Idaho, I was a member of the
Idaho Stampede. This is back in the now defunct c
B A UM in the now defunct c B A

(01:27:49):
and Rory White was the coach. They brought in thirteen
other point guards. This is a real story. Do you
guys remember have you ever heard the name Randy Livingston
the Seger You've probably heard the name Randy Livingston. What
about you, Ramos? I want to say it sounds familia,
but I can't grasp. Is it from a movie? Do
you remember Randy living Is this from basketball? Yeah? Nothing? No,

(01:28:14):
Sean Livingston, you got me? Yeah, Randy? Okay, Well, honestly,
Sean Livingston and Randy Livingston, there's some similarities there. Both
were high school All Americans. You remember how well regarded
Sean Livingston was, right, Randy Livingston was more well regarded. Okay.
He was the co player of the Year in uh

(01:28:34):
in high school basketball with Jason Kidd when he was
a junior in ninety three with Rashid Wallace. He played
the Magic's Round Ball All Star Game in the In
the end the McDonalds All America Game, he was ranked
the number one player in the class over Jerry Stackhouse,
over Rasheed Wallace at the abc D camp where he
was a councilor towards a c l. So he only

(01:28:55):
appeared in thirty two games at l s U over
two years, and he was still draft in the second
round by the Rockets. I think he played for like
ten teams. And I remember what we used to do
was we'd go to practice every day. We get in
the get in the van like the hotel van, and

(01:29:16):
we go to practice practice twice a day, and we'd
read the Idaho American Statesman, I believe that was the
name of the paper, still named the paper, and we'd
open up the paper. And the way it works in
minor league sports is you open up first to the
transaction part, which is the very back of it, because
you wanted to see who was cut in the NBA.
Because you got cut in the NBA, you'd either go

(01:29:37):
and try and get paid and play overseas, or you
come to the c B A to when you you'd
move back up and you go to the NBA. And
I remember one day we're on our way to practice
and it said Golden State Warriors. This is the Warriors.
Weren't good this back in two thousands, and Randy Livingston
got cut. And I was sitting back there and I
said to one of my teammates, man Randy Livingston, that

(01:29:58):
dude's played in the league. He was an All American
six ft four, six ft five, next Magic Johnson point guard.
He's gonna take somebody's job. So, um I we we
make it through scrimmages, tryouts, contract negotiations. I called my
wife and the assistant coach who's now assistant coach in

(01:30:20):
the NBA, uh Brian Gates. Our wives are planning on.
It was his girlfriend the time, driving up from Oklahoma
together like two days later, and um so I was done.
I was on the team. It was it was we
go and we take team pictures, and we're all kiddet
seeing and we're doing local media interviews, we're shooting half
court shots, and there's a really cool downtown arena they

(01:30:41):
play hockey in, and I think the G League team
that's in town plays there as well. Now and I
look at the quarter of my eye. Do you know
what from music? Do you know what the vomitorium is
in the arena? I do not, Okay, the vomitorium. That's
the actual name for this place on the court is
the area which when players go on and off the floor,

(01:31:02):
coaches go on and off the floor, that little tunnel
that's called the vomitorium, I swear to God. So I
look in the vomitorium. It's kind of shadowy, shady, and
I see a six or four six or five is
bald head, And like, in the back of my mind,
I remember two or three days previous reading about Randy Livingston,
and I thought, you know, that might be Randy Livingston.

(01:31:23):
I know what he looks like, and then I thought
nothing else of it. We went and played an exhibition
game at the College of Southern Idaho, and suddenly I
went from fighting for a starting spot to not getting
in the game and I was like, something's up here.
Next morning, I got a call and I got cut.
So I never actually played the first day of the season.
I never actually played a game, not a minute in
the official Idaho Idaho Stampede uniform, even though I was

(01:31:47):
in Idaho for like three weeks beating out thirteen dudes
to me and Darren McClinton with the two point guards.
So I got cut before my Stampede career. Ever, that
was the last time I was an Idaho Fall Winter
of two thousand. Randy Liveston um, Sometimes if you try

(01:32:07):
try and do something really nice for somebody and it
completely backfires, I kind of feel like that's what's happened
with the Paul Paul Pierce Steel right Like to me,
Paul Pierces is a great player. I don't think he
measures up to the Larry Birds and maybe the McHale's
maybe measures up to McHale, not to the Larry Bird level,

(01:32:28):
John Havelcheck level. Uh Bill Russell. He's not Bill Russell
or Larry Bird in terms of iconic Celtic but gonna
have his number retired. So he got all, for lack
of a better word, pissy because they were gonna do
a little video tribute to Isaiah Thomas. Now Isaiah Thomas
is like, look, man, he did went on Twitter, don't

(01:32:49):
run the video tribute next time I come to town.
That's Paul Pierce's night. But between Pierce, Kevin Garnett, gen Rondo,
they're all like, really, you're gonna do a video a
tribute to a guy that was here for two and
a half years and all they did was get to
the Eastern Conference Finals, which he didn't play the last
two games because he was hurt. Now, Pierce's mistake is
not what he said, it's that he said it right.

(01:33:11):
You can't go Ricky Henderson and say I'm the greatest ever.
And you also can't go really Paul Pierson say like, look,
you could have given he could have deserved a video tribute,
but he determined all that happened to him, which is
not really true, nor is it really fair, nor is
it really his place. Like you're Paul Pierce, you don't

(01:33:31):
even have to make the argument. You should never publicly
speak about whether or not they're going to play the
video tribute to Isaiah Thomas on your night. I understand, look,
and I think that Honestly, Boston was like, you know, like, look,
let's do Paul Pierce Night when the Calves come to
town so that it's a nationally televised game and it's
a better night for Paul. And then it just happened
to work out where Isaiah Thomas is on the Calves

(01:33:53):
now and he didn't play last time around, so they
want to do right by him. Everybody's just trying to
do right by one another from the Celtics perspective, but
instead they kind of diminish how you look at Paul
Pierce's night, and it makes Paul Pierce have to answer
questions about this, which makes him incredibly uncomfortable because he

(01:34:16):
actually won an NBA title with the Celtics. He was
actually on the Celtics for over a decade and so
Paul Pierce kind of looks like a dB a little bit.
And I don't think the Celtics meant anything by it,
but boy, they didn't pull it off very well. Long

(01:34:36):
time NBA Inside of Rick Buker joins the show from
Bleach Report. Up coming next, I'll ask him about the
Paul Pierce situation. God, it feels like it makes him
look bad like Paul could have avoided this, but the
Celtics made him look bad without intentionally making him look bad. Um.
He also wrote an article on a Lonzo and LaVar
and with or out it's a Lonzo's time to stand

Just found out Kyle Rudolph of the Viking is gonna

(01:36:21):
join us tomorrow. That's pretty awesome. Why the hell were
the Saints covering him six yards from the line of scrimmage.
We're gonna as Kyle Rudolph that tomorrow. Uh, we'll see
if he's come up with an answer. In the meantime,
we do a segment called I Got a Guy. I
could have used this as I Got a guy, but
he's he's more than just a guy. He's got his
own radio show on serious sex m uh. He of
course writes for Bleacher Report. He is a A A

(01:36:43):
A A pot pourri of knowledge of Smorgasborg of wisdom.
He is Rick Buker from Bleach Report. He joins us
on the Doug Gottlip Show. Uh, Bukle, Let's let's start
with the Alonzo and LaVar stuff. It is curious that
long so, I know, he sat out last game against Memphis,
gonna sit out to night against Oklahoma City, but he's

(01:37:04):
been playing better with his dad out of the country.
Do you think there's a correlation. Uh, I don't know. Probably.
I also find it interesting that since the last salvo
with regarding Luke Walton, the LaVar has been relatively quiet.
I haven't heard him say anything. Additionally, and well, I'm

(01:37:25):
not convinced that Alonzo has said anything to him, and
I don't know that the Lakers can say anymore than
they already have. I wonder whether at this point the
league has stepped in and said, you want your kid
to be part of our you know, the promotions that
we have on a national basis. Do you want us
to you know, consider uh Alonso is uh for for

(01:37:45):
the commercials that we do, or we use all the
top players. You need to stop doing what you're doing
because you're hurting the Lakers. And if you're hurting the Lakers,
you're hurting our product and we're not going to have
you do that. Yeah. Look, I think of it is
Jeff Goodman. Isn't there anymore right that ESPN pulled him
off that that that so so there's no there's no

(01:38:07):
real outlet to get his to get his message back.
Um and uh, I think that's probably the biggest thing.
What um is is that act is LaVar act. Do
you think that would hinder the chances of the Lakers
landing Lebron? I think it could. I think it's a factor.

(01:38:27):
I think it's a consideration. Um, there's obviously gonna be
a number of things that go into that. But look,
Alonzo's ability, the way, the shape of that team, who
the coaches. UM. I would say all of those elements
are going to be greater factors. But imagine that when
there's a conversation between Lebron and Rob or Rich Paul

(01:38:48):
who may be having this conversation right now and Rob
Blinka's office. Probably no, because he stopped by regularly having
contagious called wall pope on the team. At least that's
what I've heard, uh at that conversation about you know what,
what where? Where's LaVar going to sit in this universe?
I mean, as we know, Lebron and LaVar have already

(01:39:09):
exchanged words and uh and opinions, and they weren't kind ones.
I don't know that it's anything. I can't look at
it as something that would stop Lebron, but it would
be certainly something that he would want addressed before he
signed on the dotted line. What have you heard about
the state of the kas locker room after the final

(01:39:30):
score and the look the game was tied the fourth quarter,
but it didn't. It wasn't as close as the score
would tell you, right. It felt it felt like cat
playing with mouse a little bit. What have you heard
about what's really going on inside that Cleveland locker room? Oh,
it's kind of That's what the Warriors have been doing
all year long. Then. I don't know that they've played
great basketball, but they just have a starting four that

(01:39:52):
when they're on the floor unhealthy. Uh. And the and
the familiarity that that team has, they're just they're they're
they're hard to beat and they're not they're not playing
great basketball. And I questioned, I think they're vulnerable too.
But to answer your question, UM, they're they're simply Um,
I don't think it's I think it's being blown a
little out of proportion. But the chemistry there, and this

(01:40:15):
started from the very beginning of the season and the
composition of this team. You brought in, uh some really
uh distinct personalities that the guys that were there and
won a championship with Lebron we're going to have to
move over and make room for and uh and guys
that are signing one year deal. So from the beginning, Uh,

(01:40:37):
there was an impetus for this thing to be successful
and successful right from the start, to keep everybody on
the same page and interested. And I'll and I'll put
it this way for for you, for you, Doug, or
for anybody out there. You're on a you're you're on
a one year deal, you're on a you're you're on
the last year of your contract, and you're looking at

(01:40:59):
the possibility be of going someplace else. Um, if if
things are not going well, you're gonna be looking, you're
gonna be spending a little more time, a little more
thought on where's my next move? What am I doing next?
And there's some of that from what I understand, that's
creeping in to the calves right now, which is like, uh,

(01:41:20):
you know, that's Derrick Rows being hurt and he's trying
to figure things out. Isaiah Thomas, you know, I thought
this was gonna be an issue from the very beginning.
He's a free agent this summer. He wants to get paid,
he wants to prove that his hip is okay. He's
not thinking first and foremost, how do I fit in
with Lebron and and you know, what's my role on
this team? It's kind of like, how do I prove

(01:41:41):
to everybody that I'm a player? You can do that
on certain teams and be okay, but with this one
with Dwyane Wade trying to find his place, j R.
Smith trying to find his place next to Dwyane Wade,
Tristan Thompson trying to figure out how he fits in,
Kevin Love trying to figure out the center positions, and
then people are talking about they're gonna make another are
moved to add another different piece to this. I just

(01:42:03):
don't see any easy solutions and and honestly, you know
where it all starts. The fact that Lebron. You don't
know what Lebron's doing next year. I mean, nobody's committing
long term, nobody's mentally thinking we're all in. Everybody was like,
I don't have anything better. I got a chance of
a ring. Let's give it a shot. It's only one year,

(01:42:23):
but Lebron, the uncertainty surrounding Lebron is there's no doubt
that that's impacting people, whether it's subliminally or or or
overtly with that entire Calves organization. Rick Bucker joining us
from bleacher Report. Also Serious sex M Bleacher Report Radio.
It's Doug Otlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. Okay, so uh

(01:42:45):
this is a continue to be fascinating to me, the
Lebron things and too many specialists on that team. But
one thing that I think might you might have mentioned
that people missed. You mentioned starting four, Like the Warriors
aren't they don't appear to be as they That bench
is not as good as okay, and I think people
are like kind of given a pass and like, look,

(01:43:07):
they did win, but Draymond didn't hit a shot and
with all the with all the tussling between players and
referees like he's just one, you know, one nasty looking
against the ref to getting the technical, getting ejected from
the big game. Are they in the market to go
to go make an addition here late in the season.
I haven't heard that from the Warriors, but I've heard

(01:43:29):
from around the league, and I've been asked by people
around the league because they believe that the Warriors have
to be But the Warriors need to go out and
get a dynamic player. And you're a percent right. I
heard somebody saying last night that the Warriors were better
than you know, better than they were last year. And
I couldn't couldn't disagree with that more. Uh, Andrea I
Gudala has fallen off and shooting from three point range.

(01:43:51):
Tehn Livingston doesn't look the same. And his demeanor, I
don't know what it is. His demeanor just hasn't been
the same. He's usually a really bright personality in the
locker room. He hasn't. He hasn't been that. Jordan's Bell
is demonstrating that, Uh, you know, the stage right now,
this stage, the regular season stage is sometimes too big
for him. Uh you can't count that that he's going

(01:44:14):
to be able to deliver in the postseason and play
a meaningful role. Uh. Nick Young hasn't been you know,
has been Nick Young hasn't hasn't stepped forward. Um. No,
I think they're I think they are vulnerable. Um as
much as I think that the Cavs are vulnerable for
different reasons. Uh, that first four has to be healthy

(01:44:35):
at the end of the year, and they have to be,
you know, all hands on deck for if this Warrior's
team is going to uh, it's going to get it done,
and they can, um if those first four are there.
But the margin of air has certainly been minimized. Bucau
I said this. Look, I think the Celtics meant well

(01:44:55):
by by having a video Frisaiah Thomas. I really do.
I think they felt bad, ad, and I think they
meant well to Paul Pierce for having his jersey retirement night,
you know, not on on a night in which you
play the Hawks, right, having on a big night when
you play the Calves. So the place is full and
there's some juice, and it's on Nashal TV. Like all
all of that sense. Stuff makes sense. But and look,

(01:45:17):
and some of this is on Pierce because he said
some things that I know he felt and then a
lot of people felt. But you don't have to be
the one. Let KG say the bad thing, right. Let
I know he's always been that guy. But I feel like,
in an effort to make everybody happy, Boston has made
Paul Pierce look really, really small in this thing and

(01:45:39):
that was not their intent. No, I agree, I agree
with that, but like this is this has been Paul's
whole career. He's always been the salty dude who says
something and you and you and you look at it
and you go, you know what, He's right, But God,
did he have to say it? Did he have to
say it now? And did he have to say it
this way? I mean, this is this is why I

(01:46:00):
can't I can't be that mad about it, because Paul's
just being through to who he's been from the very beginning,
and it does make things awkward. I will go back
to uh Isaiah, you're coming back the first time they
want to do a video tribute to you. You're not
even playing, which is an advantage because now you don't
have the the emotional tumult of having this video and

(01:46:23):
whatever you're feeling about the Celtics organization, and then you
have to go on the floor and play. It's clean.
You just you get the video tribute, you get the
way to the crowd, you get appreciated, and then you
have to deal with anything else. And that he would
say no, that he would say no to a video tribute.
That's that's where it all starts from me, Like, come on, man,

(01:46:46):
it's you weren't there that long. They appreciate what you did,
what you went through, that you were you know, you
pulled on on heart strings in Boston. They want to
acknowledge that. And then you're gonna kind of get you know,
truly and say, you know what not tonight. I's that's
where I think this whole thing went wrong. I tend

(01:47:09):
to agree with you. Um my thoughts on these the
fights and the meet me outside stuff is while it's entertaining, right, uh, Like,
at some point Adam Silver, who everybody likes, has to
be more respected, right Like, again, I don't you don't
have to be David Stern and be heavy handed and
and be abrupt right and do things just just for

(01:47:30):
the sake of being being nasty. On the other hand, like, look,
somebody gets into a fight and breaks a hand breaks
an eye socket, or you know, a fan gets involved,
it just turns ugly. Everything about the league is pointing upward,
like upper trajectory and revenue and in spirit and everybody
loves the league. Am I wrong to think that these

(01:47:51):
are signs? And then you have the players and the
officials and some of and and how and the relationship
between the two, and how nasty that's gotten in your mind.
Is it time for Adam Silver to step in and
tell people enough is enough? Just go out and play
basketball and have a good time. Yeah, I think there
is some of that. I think there's coming down hard
in this situation because while the personalities involved weren't going

(01:48:12):
to take it too far. Uh. In another instance, if
you don't really crack down hard, then you have some
other guys that are going to the other locker room
and um and and and they are going to do something,
uh and and something's going to get out of hand.
So you want to send the message don't even think
about doing this, and sending the message to the team

(01:48:33):
that if you have a guy that you think might
be headed to the other locker room, you need to
get everybody on board and play Red Rover red rover.
He's not getting through, uh, which you know in this case,
I don't think anybody anticipated that the Trevor Trevor was
going to head over to the other locker room and
uh and that was, you know, ultimately a mistake. He
shouldn't have gotten, should have try not to let him

(01:48:54):
out of the locker room. Uh. So I do think
that he has to send a message. I think also, Look,
I appreci cate the players feel more empowered than they
ever have before, and they're using their voices in a
variety of ways that they didn't previously, and I applaud
all of that. I'm happy to see it. But as
a result, um, I think they're using it in ways

(01:49:18):
that damage the present. That can be negative as well.
And this comes especially with the referees. I don't I
don't know about you. I don't notice anything distinctly different
about the referees, what they're doing and how they're dealing
with guys. Uh, that's distinctly different. The numbers say there
aren't more technicals, there aren't more objections. I find it

(01:49:41):
interesting that it's the the Kevin Durance and the Chris
Paul's who previously didn't have a high tech number or
objection number that these are these are the guys that
are are are feeling it. And I think in some ways,
and Katie said this to me in a piece I
did earlier in a year, like they are only more empowered.
He said, you know, we've reached a place where we

(01:50:03):
have a platform and we feel like our voices not
only can be heard, but should be heard. And I
think they're taking that to the referees and I think
there has to just be ah. Honestly, there's the broadcast
crews meet with the coaches before the game. I wish
you'd have the officials sit down for five ten minutes
with the coaches and the captains before games and have

(01:50:23):
a conversation about how the games, you know, what they're anticipating,
what they'd like to see, etcetera. And you have that
communication and people understand what the you know, what the
the refs have on their played on their end, and
the and the refs have a little better understanding of
what the where the players and the coaches are. I
think a lot of this would go away. Yeah, but

(01:50:44):
I do think it needs to go go away. I
really really do. Uh. You know, so many good things
going on the league. Yeah, I don't think it's about like,
I don't think things are you know, Haywire. But as
you said, the league is looking so good right now.
Why you know why muddy the waters was something that
that honestly could be taken care of. Uh, rather simply

(01:51:07):
because I'm just not buying, you know, I'm not buying.
Do certain referees you know, are their personal classes? Yeah,
that's going all the way back to Charles Barkley and
Mike Mathis. I mean, that's it's probably that's just human
nature that those things are going to exist. In reference
to Draymond Green, but that the that the referees are
like out to get guys, or that they're you know,

(01:51:28):
that they're they're officiating the game in some distinctly different way.
I'm just not seeing it. I'm with you. Rick Buker
from Bleacher Report, readers work on LaVar and a Lonzo
Baum with people around the NBA are saying, but great stuff.
Thanks for joining us, dude, got it, Doug. As conditions
in the field change, so can your car insurance needs?
Talk with farmers agent today so you can assess whether

(01:51:51):
your policy is game ready. Find an agent at Farmers
dot Com. Are Farmers. Let's bring in Steve to Segre
find out what else is going on in the the world sports.
Steve what he got? We are an hour away from
the college basketball doubleheader on FS one Number one Villanova
at Georgetown at about six thirty Eastern time, and then
nineteen ranks Seaton Hall will play at Craighton. News from

(01:52:12):
the NFL and plenty of at The Jets fired offensive
coordinator John Morton. The Steelers today parted ways with offensive
coordinator Todd Haley, but assistant Mike mun Check will stay
with Pittsburgh, withdrawing his name from the Cardinals head coaching search. Now.
NFL Network reports that Falcon Special teams coach Keith Armstrong
is flying into Arizona tomorrow and Armstrong will have a

(01:52:34):
second interview with the Cardinals about their head coach position
on Friday. The NFL says Commissioner Roger Goodell will attend
the NFC title game in Philadelphia this Sunday, not the
a f C game in New England. Houston Rockets star
James Harden was upgraded to questionable for tomorrow against Minnesota.
Harden's missed nearly three weeks with a strain hamstring, and
the Rockets are four and three without him. He's averaging

(01:52:57):
thirty two points and nine assists for game this season.
Derrick Rose of the Calf says he thinks he'll return
tomorrow at Orlando. He's missed almost two and a half
months with a sprained ankle. The Spurs say Kawhi Leonard
is out indefinitely recovering from his quad tendon injury. In
the late game tonight. It will be Denver at the Clippers.
Clips have won five straight for Denver. Jamal Murray, averaging
fifteen points per game, is out tonight. He's in concussion protocol.

(01:53:20):
Back to you, Yeah, you mentioned Steve that, uh, that
Todd Haley is out as out as offensive coordinator with
the Pittsburgh Dealers. That like, that's like the worst kept
secret in the NFL was that Haley and Big Ben
didn't get along. But but you know, part of it.
What what's amazing about it, what's amazing about it is

(01:53:43):
I get that that life is in fact a popularity contest.
It just is like you can fudge numbers to be
whatever you want, and like, look, we can sit here
and go, well, you know, Todd Haley is really hard
to work with, and he's this, and he's that, and boy,
he had Levy on belst without wide for series of
the game. Didn't they score forty two points? Right? Like

(01:54:05):
they scored four? They did? Music checked the score. I
believe the final score was forty forty two when in
Jacksonville beat the Pittsburgh Steelers two? Is that correct? Uh, Doug?
That is correct? Okay? And and then when they when
they lost to Jacksonville at home, did Todd Haley throw
five interceptions or did Ben Roethlisberger throw five interceptions? Last time?

(01:54:28):
I might stats say that it was Ben Roethlisberger. This
just in, Doug. That is confirmed. It was Ben Roethlisberger.
I appreciate that, thanks for looking that up. That is
our crack staff team. That our staff team that's on crack.
Although there was that one time in college to where
music was experiment. This just sen Doug, back on the crack. Okay,
back on the crack. The point is that like we

(01:54:49):
can crush Todd Haley, and everyone knew that he was
gonna get fired. And I told you, I told you
last week. We put it on Twitter. Music has nothing
to do on the weekends, doesn't pay attention to his girlfriend.
He it out on our account. Uh during the game, like, hey,
they go they go down, heads are gonna roll because
that's how little people think. Frankly at Blake Portles. But
Blake Portles lights them up. They gave up forty five points. Really,

(01:55:13):
they gave up what thirty five? Thirty five points because
Big Ben fumbles and it was a run back for
a touchdown. Pittsburgh score forty two points and their offensive
coordinator get fired. Like that's remarkable. I mean, look, I
saw what we saw it coming. And um, you know,

(01:55:33):
Todd Hilly is a guy I don't even you guys
know he played golf in college and then coached golf
after college at North Texas and North North Florida. Excuse me,
His dad was a front office guy with the Giants,
got him his first job, worked his way up head
coach at Kansas City, got fired Kansa City. But he
grew up in Pittsburgh. That's how he got this gig.
It was never a great fit, but still like there

(01:55:58):
was a lot of points put up on the board
for a guy to get fired. There was more to
it than that. But is it an interesting that if
you don't think life is a popularity contest, Matt Patricia
is gonna get a job. He's the defensive coordinator of
the New England Patriots. The Patriots have the twenty ninth
ranked defense in the league. Right, Todd Haley just got

(01:56:18):
fired as offensive coordinator. His team put up forty two
points in his last game. Is offensive coordinator against arguably
the best defense, or one of the top two or
three defense in the NFL. Now we saw it coming.
I'm not saying I'm stunned, but I'm just telling life,
my friends, is a popularity contest. Even the best, even

(01:56:40):
the best athletes to put to the test at times.
And the same goes for your car battery. Luckily, Auto
Zone offers free battery testing, so you never buy a
part you don't need. Stopping today getting the zone auto Zone.
There's one reason why the Patriots could lose to the
Jags in the a f C Championship game. I'll tell
you what that is next. Online shopping can be confusing,
well not anymore. With True Price from True Car. Now

(01:57:02):
you can know the exact price you'll pay for your
next car. So visit True car and enjoy more confident
car buying experience. What up, Dot Gottlieb show, I got
some college basketball picks for you. Let's make some money
trying to bake things. Do do do do do don't,

(01:57:24):
don't don do checks? Hey Ramos, do you drink coffee?
I do? Not? The Segre do you drink coffee? Coffee drink?
I thought I made it through college without and there
for good enough. Um, thank thanks Ramos for quick triggering

(01:57:46):
US music. Do you drink coffee? I do? Yeah? I
am a coffee drinker. What what is your what is
your drink? Your coffee drink? You just have plates straight up?
But I like black coffee. Yeah, I just go black coffee. Um, okay,
So I tried on the way on the airport l
A X today there's a pizza coffee Pizza's West Coast Brands,
really good coffee and they have a a Timeric ginger

(01:58:12):
and honey latte. And you know what, it tastes as
bad as it is so west Side. Let's get let's
get to the press, the press. Alright, what do you
got there for me? Steve Seger? Sounds like you're still
on the coffee high. We have NFL to start the

(01:58:33):
Jets are firing offensive coordinator John Morton. One Beat writer
said they were kind of waiting to see if anyone
else hired him off their staff. Nobody did, and he's gone. Uh.
Quarterback Tom Brady did not meet with the media today.
The Patriots QB instead met with his own team's medical staff.
He was listed as limited in practice with a right
hand injury today. Also a limited participant in Patriots practice

(01:58:56):
today was running back Rex burkhead but reportedly he'll be
for perhaps back in the lineup from his knee entry
this weekend. We know Malcolm Mitchell's season is over. The
receiver of the Patriots was not activated by the deadline.
M Uh. Look, I the Malcolm Mitchell thing is interesting,
but I get in Rex burkehead back only helps them.

(01:59:17):
I kind of feel like, we know what what what
what the Patriots are gonna do? Right, Like they're gonna
they know that their weaknesses, and they find a way
to kind of pick you apart. They'll go no huddle
at times and force tempo. They'll get you, you know,
they'll find a mismatch and they'll just pick it apart.
And I love the idea of covering Gronk with with

(01:59:39):
you know, your best with Jalen Ramsey, your best cover corner,
but one, he's like six inches taller than him. And
then two, I think that screws up the rest of
your defense you're used to having, You're used to having
Jalen Ramsey on one side of the field, but you know,
you line Grounk up wide and then you bring him
in to line them up just at like a tight end,
and nowll of a sudden, that a whole mismatch. They

(02:00:00):
goes away. I yeah, I I don't. I don't. I
don't love it for the Jacksonville nearly as much as
people as for Jacksonville. Today. Leonard four Net, who tweaked
the ankle last weekend, did return to limited practice. For Minnesota,
receiver Adam Feeling with a bad back, did not practice today. Yeah,
we do have an NFL item that the referee for

(02:00:22):
the upcoming Super Bowl in Minnesota has been selected, and
it's a college basketball reraf. It's Gene Stator, who does
both sports. He has never been the referee for a
Super Bowl. This is his fifteen season in the league.
Ha's been an alternate before. He's done eleven playoff games
of course he knows how to use a note card
to a look for a first down with the chains

(02:00:43):
when it's close. But Gene Sterritory getting his first Super
Bowl assignment, Um yeah, look, the good thing about it
is Gene Sterritory. Maybe we'll have more confidence in his
walk now that he's a referee in the Super Bowl.
That's you, guys seen James Steroto. It's a strut. It's
a strut. If he if he was any if he's

(02:01:04):
any more confident, he would be pimp walking. He's the
guy who really is emphatic with the charge block kind
of thing you don't onto baseball. We will find out
one week from today who's into this year's class at
the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. It could be
a few guys. Actually, there is a person who each

(02:01:24):
year now is a ballot tracker. Actual voters for the
Baseball Hall of Fame send him their ballots and he's
actually counted close to half the vote by this time,
nearly two hundred ballots revealed. Ryan Thibodeau is the man's name,
and he reports a week out from the announcement that
three guys are getting over of the ballots. So far

(02:01:46):
Chipper Jones, Vladimir Guerrero, and Jim Tomy. Chipper Jones a
career three oh three hitter. Vladimir Guerrero career three eighteen
hitter wors worst best bad ball hitter I've ever seen
in baseball. Oh, absolute lee with the Expos and the Angels.
And like Chipper Jones, he had about four hundred fifty
career home runs. Jim Tommy had over six hundred career

(02:02:08):
home runs. He's on the list of seemingly locks for
the Hall this year, and the all three are guys
that have not been Uh. There's been some talk of
lad There's been some talk of Tomy, but none have
been linked to steroids. And I think it's a good
thing if you get caught like this whole thing, like
the rumored, they weren't nearly as rumored as I didn't
like Piazza because most everybody in baseball knew he did it. Uh.

(02:02:30):
And ped Rodriguez, I mean, pedro Rigez was in fact juicer,
but I like keeping. I'm personally against having Barry Bonds,
having Roger Clemens in the Hall. Yeah, Bonds, Clements and
Chilling are under the SEV and the current voting, but
still possible to get in. Trevor Hoffman, Edgar Martinez, and
Mike Messina has a chance this year. And finally, the

(02:02:51):
College Football Playoffs Selection Committee is named six new members,
one of which is former USC All American Ronnie Lott.
The executive director of the committe do Bill Hancock says
Ronnie Lott will not have to recuse himself when they
vote on USC or discuss USC in the committee because
the policy only applies to someone who's actually currently employed

(02:03:12):
with the school or is receiving compensation from it. He's not, well,
that's a that's a mistake in there by laws, absolute
mistake and there by laws. But don't get out there
and press. That was the press. But don't worry. USC's
gonna USC's gonna suck next year, so it doesn't really matter.
They lost Sam Donald, their coaching staff is kind of
a kind of a mess. They're not gonna I the US.

(02:03:33):
My guest will be USC will be making a coaching
change in the next two years. So I don't think
Ronnie Lott, I don't think it'll I just do. I
I like Clay Hilton a lot, but nothing I've heard,
says that's a stable coaching staff, and they're gonna be
starting a kid who could be a high school senior
as their quarterback. Kyle Rudolph will join us tomorrow, so
too will Mark Slayreth. I like Xavier, who's a big

(02:03:55):
favorite over St. John's. I like Iowa State, who's a
big dog to TCU, who won't have jailing Fisher. So Xavier,
Iowa State give you a couple more picks as well.
He checked me out on Facebook tonight. This has been
the Dug Gotlip Show. Thanks for the folks here at
six thirty in Boise
