Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio Boom, What Up America,
Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio Live and Direct from
the Hearts of the City of Angels. Welcome in. I
hope you're doing well, getting ready for oh days, today, days, Tuesday.

(00:21):
Just to day seems off, you know it's missing today? Well.
John Romis is here from the ones and two is
our technical director. Ryan Music's here. Our producer of course,
Dan Buyers here. You'll hear him with updates. You can
hear him on the weekends here on Fox Sports Radio.
They're all here. What what is? What is missing? What's off?
What's what's going on today? There's no football, That's it.

(00:46):
That's what's gotta be missing. There's no football. So you
feel kind of off when it's something you love the
most and you don't get a chance to see it,
you just don't quite feel right, right. I think that's
the way i'd express it. I mean in life, if
there's somebody, some a person you love and you don't
see them or don't talk to them, you feel off.

(01:10):
If not, maybe you haven't experienced that in your life.
I generally think that's part of it. But we have
that off feeling less and less. That's because football has
become all consuming. And I don't think it's just the
NFL's doing. I think it's frankly, everyone's doing college football,
high school football, etcetera, etcetera. But there's a there's a

(01:33):
little bit of a freak out from the major broadcast networks,
and that's because NFL numbers are down. Scoring is down.
But is that why viewershippers down? Because you wouldn't have
tuned not tuning in, you wouldn't have known. You wouldn't

(01:53):
have known that the scoring was down. Right, here's my theory,
A maybe not theory, hypotheses right. A theory is something
that's proven out over time to be uh, some sort
of scientific fact is that a fair way would put
it right. So this is more hypotheses. This is an
educated guess. I don't believe there's just one factor in

(02:15):
why NFL numbers are down. I think there's a lot.
Like I read, did anybody read the book The Tipping Point?
You guys read that book The Tipping Point. Um, They're
supposed to be one moment in which something tips, something changes,
something swings pop culture to all of a sudden want
to wear stubby shorts or Jimmy Z shorts, or to

(02:38):
peg their genes or whatever we did when we were kids.
But in reading the tipping point, I realized that there's
a bunch of things that cause something to tip to
sway and then fall into that favor. So, look, we
have the ability now to watch any show we want,
any almost any time we want, with the exception of

(02:59):
lives events. And what was different about the NFL forever,
or at least about sports forever, is well, sports you
can't DVR storts. You have to watch as live. And
so that's what drove up the value of sports. It
wasn't that sports was killing it in terms of numbers.
It's that sports numbers hadn't gone down because sports was impervious,

(03:23):
or at least we were told to the Hey, if
I don't catch it, I'll just DVRT and watch it later,
all right, I like this is us, But I gotta
be honest that this is us. I watched the whole
first season. I watched it on demand. Breaking Bad. I
didn't watch Breaking Bad until like a year and a
half ago. I binge watched every episode Game of Thrones.

(03:44):
I know some of you guys are Game of Thrones.
Guys haven't watched the episode. At some point I will.
It'll be like a month, probably when I'm traveling. I'll
download every episode and I'll catch up and I'll be
like like, oh, this is really cool. Why did somebody
tell me about this? I know you all told me
about this. But sports you can't do that. You can't
go up to somebody on the street and go, hey, man,
how about that Week one NFL huh huh? How about

(04:07):
the Packers? You see the Packers and the Seahawks, and man,
I'm really concerned about the Seahawks. Packers are all some
best team in the NFL. People like, uh, they just
lost the Falcons. Like, no, they didn't. I just saw
the game when they lost to the when they when
they beat the Seahawks. I can't do it with sports.
So what happened was all the TV networks are like, no,

(04:28):
these are the tooth live events. That's why there's so
many awards shows. Think about how many music award shows
there are, and even quasi award shows. That's the same
reason that there's so many of these variety shows. America's
got talent, which looks peculiar and almost interesting, like America's
Idol kind of on steroids, like why is that again?

(04:50):
Live events end up drawing more viewership, But what's happened
even with those shows? America American I All is big
and so the voices created, America's got talent is created,
so you think you can dances created, etcetera, etcetera. We've
done that in the NFL. People want to know why

(05:11):
the NFL numbers are down, that's because football is on
too much. When I was a kid, I grew up
in southern California, and Rick D's was the big DJ
on Kiss FM. Now it's a Now it's Ryan C. Christos.
And in addition to d. Slee's, which was like all
the low down on what was going on in Hollywood.

(05:33):
It's great right by the way, you see Billy Bush
at his wife for twenty years, they're splitting up. I
guarantee Trump costs another marriage, There's no question there, Tony Um.
But in addition to the fact he had some other
kind of quirky things. I remember in second grade the

(05:54):
first time I've ever heard Madonna, it was Borderline, and
I felt like I heard it every five minutes on
one or two seven even right. And there's something that
I didn't know then that I do know now being
in the radio industry for mind, almost my entire professional life.
It's the what do they tell us ramos when they
tell you in FM radio, they tell you in sports

(06:15):
talk radio as well, what's what's what's the what's the expression? Hits?
Always play the hits, always play the hits. Well, look,
we all grew up being taught play the hits. Worked
for Rick D's play Borderline every thirty minutes, because if
you hear Borderline being played twice, they got you, they
got their talents in you. You're hooked. You listen for

(06:36):
thirties straight minutes and you heard it twice, right, that's
an advertiser's dream. Meanwhile, the rest of the world listens
for five, six, seven, eight minutes and then they move on.
And so the idea is it's a totally due audience
every fifteen or twenty minutes anyway, So if you replay
the song, at least you're giving them what they want. Well,
that's what we've done with sports, and that's what we've

(06:57):
done with the NFL. It's on Thursday, it's on Sunday.
No wait, it's on Sunday morning online this week as
the Jaguars go to London and play the Baltimore Ravens.
Then it's on Sunday night. Then it's on Monday night.
What used to be I could only watch my team

(07:17):
play on a Sunday and then watch one Monday night
football game is now Sunday night is the new Monday night.
Monday night is one game too many, and and Thursday
night we discussed last week, is bad football. So the
more we play the hits, the more we get worn
down by it and things get played out right, Like

(07:41):
even my kids use that term. I I cannot hear
that Bieber song again. It's played out. I kind of
think that's what's happened in the NFL. I play fantasy football,
so does everybody. So football's on everywhere, on every channel.

(08:01):
We discuss it at nausea. It's on Thursday, it's on
Sunday morning, it's on Sunday afternoon, it's on Sunday night,
it's on Monday night, to which you're like, wait a second,
that's just too much. Everyone always uses the less is more,
less is more, or less is more or less is more.

(08:21):
But when you're making money, you do more is more, right,
And I kind of think that the NFL isn't less popular.
It's just as popular, if not even more popular, even
more mainstream than it's ever been. But our incessant need
to play the hits has caused everybody to play the

(08:41):
exact same hit toever. Like there's nothing special about a
Thursday night game, there's nothing special about a Monday night game.
Sunday night is usually the best game. Mh. That's my hypotheses.
What do you think music? I mean, I don't watch
NFL football any less. I watched it the exact same amount,

(09:05):
but the numbers are telling you that people are watching
it less. I have one other hype addition to the hypothesis.
It's one other kind of the litany of things. We've
taken away a lot of the big hits, right. This
is a lot like when you took when Wayne Gretzky
and the guys tried to take fighting out of hockey.
NASCAR has tried to take out some of those horrific

(09:26):
crashes out of NASCAR restrictor plate racing, trying to keep
those cars from getting too fast and elevating and getting
too dangerous. Right, But the truth is that we watch
hockey for fights, we watched NASCAR for crashes, and we
watched the NFL for those ridiculous hits games kind of
boring a go ahead music. What do you think? Yeah,

(09:48):
I just think that for most people now, they don't
they don't devote an entire day to just watching football
because it's so readily available to them. So when you
look at things like oh, well, football night in America,
of the ratings are down, well, that's likely because maybe
they watched the game. You know, if you're on the
West Coast, you you've been watching football since tenant in
the morning, and you don't necessarily want to be doing

(10:10):
it until ten at nights, So your total viewership is
going to be down, Which is sort of what people
have talked about, and I know like people at like
Fox Sports have talked about this, is that it's not
necessarily the total amount of people watching is down. It's
more that people aren't watching for as long anymore, and
that's why the ratings are down. People are tuning in,

(10:31):
but as soon as they tune in there then tuning out.
Would you say, I couldn't hear you. I tuned in
for a little bit and then I tuned out Ramos.
What about you? Obviously it's different. You've got two kids. Uh,
you're you're a bottom dwelling soccer coach on the weekend.
That does take up some of your time. What would
you like to offer up um some some statement as

(10:54):
to why you believe some of the numbers are down
in in NFL viewership. I think that people just want
to watch their team, and if their team's not on TV,
they don't want to watch the games. They don't really
care about what other teams are doing. It's kind of
like in fantasy football, like you said earlier, you watch
your team, your players, and you don't care about what
other players are doing. But see, I think that's that's

(11:16):
what fantasy football has helped the NFL, and that you
watch teams you would never watch before. Like I would never, ever,
ever care about half of these teams in the NFL
if I'm the mainstream fan unless I have money on
the game, or unless I have a fantasy football player.
I think it's made rivalries less vicious as well, because
you're like, well, I don't like the guy Buddy scored

(11:37):
a touchdown helped my fantasy team win. Euro Jack tweets
the show. If radio rules play the hits, why isn't
the John Ramos Show the third hour of every day
come on now? Very good point. It's a very good question.
It's a very good question. Kevin clark Um writes for
The Bringer. He offered up some ideas as to what's

(11:57):
missing in the National Football League. Um, we'll welcome him
in as as he joins this upcoming next But I
mentioned I mentioned fantasy football, and one of the things
that thinks about fantasy football is if your quarterback goes down,
if you're running back goes down, if your wide receiver

(12:19):
goes or if your quarterback goes down and you have
a white you have Stefan Diggs and suddenly Sam Bradford.
He doesn't know what happened to his knee. Bradford has
no idea what happened to his knee. He he doesn't
want to disclose it. He does No one who play, etcetera, etcetera.
Would that mind? Why not play one week fantasy football
like the pick um contest from Draft Kings. This Sunday,

(12:41):

there's a look. I don't think I could be wrong.
You tune into my show in the Doug Gotliep Show
here Fox Sports Radio. I heart app Serious x m

(13:44):
AV three, Fox Sports Radio dot Com. I don't think
you necessarily tune in to be told about the ratings,
like like some some sports shows get caught up in
the ratings, and like w w E has rated well
or at fairly level for years. I don't know anybody
A couple of friends who I follow on Twitter who
will watch it, but like I don't know anybody who

(14:05):
once you get twelve years old, you know, like I
don't get it, don't get it. I just don't like, well,
they're great athletes, Like, no, they're not. You might have
been an athlete and you might make an athletic move,
but you're just basically an actor. You know, that's lifted
a bunch of weights and that follows through a fit,
fake table. But there are those numbers. But I can't

(14:27):
pretend to compare those numbers with sports numbers because I
just I don't I don't know anybody in my life
who watches that. On the other hand, I also don't
know anybody who doesn't turn on the an NFL game
on a Sunday. Kevin Clark joins the show he writes
for The Ringer. He wrote wrote an article that we
discussed a little bit yesterday and it starts to delve

(14:49):
into what's really missing in the National Football League and
it's kind of the maybe the untold part of it. Kevin,
how are you? I'm doing great? Um you sit? The
title the article, I don't know if you wrote the
title was how football stopped being fun? You talked about
completion percentage being an all time high, and you're going
to Chris Simms, which just a great quote. You show

(15:09):
me a team with a great completion percentage, I'll automatically
think your offense probably sucks. What is it about the
actual gameplay that has that, by your estimation, has caused
football to be a tougher watch? That used to be well,
all of the quarterbacks are generally competent now and what
ended up happening maybe in the last five five to

(15:29):
six years, is that they could complete passes really easily.
And I think there were a lot of coordinators, a
lot of quarterbacks, a lot of head coaches who said,
you know what, if we can complete a pass, we
can have a six completion percentage Instead of throwing a
lot of incompletions are going down field. That is a
win for us and so es since to what happened is,
with the exception of the top top quarterbacks in the NFL,

(15:51):
the vast majority are now going for shorter completions, Take
less criticism, um, take less risks, h you know, and
and live to live another down basically, and so essentially
what happened is, uh, you know, five years of that
and all of a sudden, every quarterbacks doing It's Sam
Bradford completion percentage last year and it was one of
the worst offenses we've ever seen. And as far as

(16:12):
you know, uh, aesthetics and so it's it's trending towards
an ugly place where there's not a lot of downfield passing.
And that's the stuff people like it is, and it's
it's now part of the rules have also helped that too,
as you point out, you know, past interference is so tight, right,
you can't touch a quarterback. Everything they do is to
protect the passing game and to protect the wide receivers

(16:32):
to that plays remain. It's almost like we so badly
want the great quarterback to make the great past, to
have the great catch when we artificially trying to create
that with the rules, we actually end up getting a
super boring catch right over the middle, where instead of
a hard hit, now a guys just kind of corralled
and brought down exactly. And that's one of the things
I've talked to safeties about this for the past three

(16:54):
or four years. Teams game plan because they know defensive
backs are scared to find stug and what ends up
happening is they basically will throw a drag route to
a tight end or they'll float throw to a slot
receiver and they'll say, you can just catch this and
get six yards, and we'd rather have that than throw
to a you know, an outside guy. If Randy Moss
played now, he wouldn't get as many passes because they

(17:15):
wouldn't want to go outside the hash marks like that.
So NFL offenses are taking mantage of the rules, and
it's probably not in the way the NFL intended. They
want those sort of uh down the field, you know,
eight yard bomb type things like we saw ten years ago,
and it's just not gonna happen because of lack of
quarterback talent. You just mentioned lack of quarterback talent. It
seems it should be the opposite, right, Like, and I

(17:37):
don't know how old you are, Like, I'm I'm how
old am I think? I'm forty one? I don't know, Um,
But like when we were growing up, teams, high school
teams never throw a football, right Like Brett Fave never
throw a football in high school and his dad was
his coach, um. And then you know, college teams very
rarely did teams throw. Now everybody throws, like high school

(17:59):
teams are running. College teams obviously throw it all the time.
If there's so much more development of quarterbacks throwing a
football at a younger age, wouldn't we have a greater
dearth of both quarterbacks and wide receivers to throw the
ball and throw the ball down field. Well, there's there's
a couple of things at play here, Doug, And it's
a very complicated question. I've written a lot about this

(18:20):
and talked a lot of gms and coaches about it.
The throwing is helping. Andy Reid has talked about this.
You know, fifteen years ago used to be oh, they're
not throwing enough. Now they're throwing almost too much. The
concepts are very simple. Uh, Schools like Baylor have produced
some of the let's say, less knowledgeable quarterbacks as far
as at the NFL level. Um that than than the
NFL has ever seen. Guys who couldn't identify a cover two,

(18:41):
who couldn't identify the mic linebacker, stuff like that. And
so they're getting Yes, they're getting reps as far as
throwing at the lower levels, but they're not getting the knowledge.
And the problem is once they get to the NFL level,
the defenses are so complex that you've got to be
able to check into plays. You've got to be able
to audible with the line. You know. I did a
story in the two thousand seven Patriots a couple of
months ago, and they told they had twelve plays they
could check into when they went when they went to

(19:03):
the line. Uh. And NFL offenses now can't do that
because the quarterbacks just don't grow up in that environment. Day.
The spread system is very simple, and once it gets complicated,
those guys tend to struggle. Um. I thought, there's there's
some similarities there in terms of watchability to I don't
know if you pay attention to this. In Major League
Baseball Baseball, this year home runs they just at the
all time mark for single season home runs in the sport.

(19:26):
That just happened last night, And if if you for
people in the game told me like, hey, there's kind
of a problem here in terms of the watchability. Um,
thirty four percent of the time, all you need on
a baseball field is the picture the catcher and the
hitter because either strikeout, walk or hit a home right
at thirty four percent of the time. And while it
seems like that would make for more home runs and

(19:49):
we all grew up in the chicks dig the long
ball because there's such lulls in between it that baseball
can be quite tedious and quite boring, even even by
baseball standards to watch. Is that is there some similarities
there to that in football? Absolutely. I had a discussion
with one of our baseball writers, Ben Lindbergh, last night.
We were talking about this and we were just saying,
every sport is changing dramatically. I mean, you know, exactly,

(20:15):
and but but the problem with baseball and football is
that efficiency in those sports is not as exciting as
maybe ten or fifteen years ago. Whereas basketball, who doesn't
want to see Steph Curry drain three's that's really exciting? Uh?
In soccer. You know who doesn't want to see Lionel Messi.
I mean it's just the problem now, is that is
that the smartphone generation, the Instagram generation, they want to

(20:38):
see really cool plays. And if baseball is just the
three trough outcomes like you talked about strikeouts, home runs,
you know, I mean that that's not as exciting as basketball,
as soccer, and the football is having the same problem.
If it's only six yard passes and then it comes
down to whether or not the linebacker can make a tackle,
that's a problem for the younger generation. There's a reason
football and baseball are not as probity with younger generations

(21:01):
as as you other sports. It's fascinating. Um. Okay, so
Kevin Clark joining us from The Ringer, you should we'll
tweet out again the article, but you should go to
The Ringer and check it out. How football stop being fun?
He joins us here on the Doug Otlip Show Fox
Sports Radio. Okay, you've done a great job identifying the problem.
How do you fix it? I think it's a coaching
problem at one At one level, I think that you

(21:22):
have to get coaches and look, Chip Kelly had a
lot of problems, and not all of them were scheme,
but Chip Kelly had an outside the box idea of
how an NFL offense should be run. The quarterbacks are
not going to change. High school and college coaches are
winning and putting up a lot of points with the
spread system, and they're not going to go the opposite
way just to make NFL coaches feel warm and fussy.

(21:44):
So you have to get coaches who understand everything. I'm
not saying that that Bill Laser and Cincinnati is going
to be you know, a great reason that Andy Dalton,
you know, has a resurrection this year. What I am
saying is he he's the offensive coordinator. Now he coached
under Chip Kelly, He's going to at least be able
to incorporate some spread principles. You have to hire guys
who have understanding of the spread principles because for too

(22:04):
long now. I did a story a couple of weeks ago,
Stephen Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry's son, said that
they had Connor Cook above Dak Prescott on their draft
board because Connor Cook played the pro offense in college
and Dak played in the spread. You cannot think that way,
and so I think the biggest thing is taking these
quarterbacks and just developing them, identifying them better, and just

(22:25):
getting to a point where they can throw downfield. Again,
It's not that hard. It just requires a little more
creative thinking, haven't it has? Isn't that what Arizona's tried
to do. I mean, isn't that the Bruce Arians thing
and trying to get get chunk plays and it it hasn't.
It worked for in the short term, but hasn't worked
in a long term. Yeah, I mean, it certainly works
in Atlanta. It worked in Arizona for for basically two
and a half years. Carson Palmer probably is playing out

(22:48):
of his era at this point. I mean, he's a
little bit washed, it looks like. But you know, Arizona,
excuse me, Atlanta was one of most efficient offenses in history.
They went, they went downfield to Julio all the time,
They went five wide all the time. I mean, I
think Matt Ryan, uh it was one of the best
quarterbacks in history statistically when throwing at five five receivers
going out for a route, and so it does have success.

(23:08):
It just depends on the quarterback. You're not gonna be
able to do with Joe Flacco in that's just not
going to happen. So it starts with the next generation.
This generation, the Sam Bradford generation, that even the Alex
Smith generation, even though we saw them do okay in
Week one, they're done. We got to ignore them. We
got to work on the next generation of quarterbacks and
get them to play an exciting brand of football. Last thing, um,

(23:30):
we're we're just talking about today a little bit about
the numbers being down, some of the viewership numbers being down.
How much do you think this plays a part in it? Like,
I don't think it's all or nothing for any of
these factors, But what percentage do you think this is
a factor of some of the viewership changing. I think
it's a small percentage. I think it's as you said,
it's a lot of things combining to make a big problem.

(23:50):
I don't think politics has much to do with it.
I I just I think there's just a lot of stuff.
I think people started watching the election last year and
it got people trained a little bit off of football.
Is sure, you had the hurricane, So I think that
it's just the NFL is not going to have the
monopoly used to on eyeballs and that's something they needed
to graple withus. But they still have a lot, a
lot of fans, specially compared to other sports. The Ringers
a great side. Kevin Clark has this incredible article. Go

(24:13):
check it out. We'll tweet it out. Man, I really
appreciate you join us. We'll talk soon. Okay Kevin Clark
joining us from the Ring or how football stopped being fun?
It just it can be rather boring. It's the weird.
It's a weird thing about watching. For example, Okay, Saturday
USC and Texas was not a particularly well played game,
hard hitting game, particular well played Florida and Tennessee. I

(24:35):
don't think anybody I know Clay Travis every day and
his radio show comes up with these crazy ideas like today,
what wasn't it? Bob Stoops is gonna be the next
head coach at Tennessee and but Jones is still the
head coach at Tennessee, although maybe not long after his
team gave up a last second touchdown sixty five yards
in the air. Um. But like like Tennessee, flour was

(24:55):
a terribly played, uh sporadically coach football game. But the
end was the stuff of absolute legend. But sometimes we uh,
we associate exciting for good and it's not like college
football is more exciting. NFL football is more good. But
because it's not exciting and maybe it's not even that good,

(25:18):
the product looks worse. And like, look, Thursday night football
was terribly played game and you could say like both
defenses were good, but uh, the Sunday games all seemed
to run into one another. The Packers were getting blown
out because they're so beat up and bad of that
game was bad. The Monday game was a terribly played
It was not a particularly well played game. Like those

(25:39):
are your prime time games and they weren't great, whereas
the prime time games on Saturday, with the exception of
Clemson and Louisville, which apparently did a good number even
though it's a complete blowout. Um, we're fun and exciting
but not well played. Let's bring in Dan buy or
find out what else is going on? What I got, Dan?
I got some thought so much you're talking about Doug,

(26:01):
But first I gotta just tell you this Patriots set
and Rob Gronkowski practice today, so don't worry about that
growing injury. That What did I say, Oh, tight end
Patriots tudend Rob Gronkowski practice today against the Saints. I
wanted to dive into your topic so much. Okay, go through,
go through your stuff. Yeah I will. Patriots tended Rob
Gronkowski practicing today. Of course, he was the center of

(26:21):
attention when he went down with that injury against the
Saints in Week two. Says no issues there. Should play
against the Texans coming up on Sunday. Patriots wide receiver
Danny ammend Dola missed the Saints game, but he was
able to practice today. He was dealing with a concussion.
Redskins tendant Jordan Reid said, our practice with a chess
contusion remains day today, while Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford was
on the practice field throwing passes. That's good news for

(26:43):
the quarterback who missed their game against the Steelers in
Week two, but the Vikings still consider Bradford Day today.
Aaron Judge home run number forty five on the season.
It's all Yankees today against the Twins eleven three. Heading
to the sixth inning. The Marlins lead the Mets by
account of seven to two, while the Tigers trail at
home to the Oakland A's three nothing just about to
get underweight. About ten minutes or so, Rockies are in

(27:05):
San Francisco, just barely holding on to that final wild
card in the n L. New York Knicks start training
camp next week. New York Day of the News says
Carmelo Anthony remains hopeful that he'll be traded by Monday
and some sad newtes to pass along. Former middleweight champ
Jack Lamota was who was the subject of the movie
Raging Bull Dot at the age of ninety five, Jack Jake, Jake,
But what did say, Jack? Guys? We still do this

(27:26):
all over again? Can we just start for the beginning? Patriots?
Just kidding, John? So what do you want to get into?
I think it's interesting with the viewership of with we
say fantasy is so important, and we say that people
who gamble are so important. The access to the information
when you do that has now become so easy as well.

(27:46):
I remember days five, ten years ago, just sitting there
watching games, trying to track my fantasy team when it
maybe wasn't as readily available as it is now on
your phone. Maybe you're sitting in front of a computer
screen watching stats. But to be able to have all
of your betting information on an app, or all of
your fantasy information just right there. You can run to

(28:07):
the store and find out how your fantasy team is doing,
just like that, which maybe you didn't have that access,
you know, a few years back. No, No No, it's it's
it's information is everywhere. Everybody's got something fantasy was You
don't need to You don't just sit there and watch
all the games, and you can just watch it on
an app. I tend to agree, and I would also

(28:28):
tell you that the games can be boring. They actually
can be boring if you sit there and watch. Like remember,
it's like one of those things where we want to
get it so right with the replay that every scoring
play they replay, every turnover they replay, and and sometimes
it's like the Department of Redundancy department. After further review,

(28:51):
the play on the field is exactly like we thought
it was, And we spent five minutes going over what
an incredible play in the field is, and we took
all the energy out of the stadium proceed That's what happens.
I don't know why anybody would go like, have you
ever gone to a like college games teams, it's even

(29:11):
worse you're gone to these games like just replay, replay
time out, like time out on the after the touchdown,
then the kickoff time out after the kickoff. Just get
on with it. After a while, you got ramas what
would be? And we've all talked about tonight's game being
not a great one in on paper Rams Thursday night,

(29:35):
Thursday game. We're all off today. I told you, I
told you while we're off, I told you why we're off, right,
there is no football today. Football is what we love.
When you don't see talk to you, not around the
one that you love, you just feel off. That's how
you know you love someone or love something. Well. I

(29:57):
actually think that that was just some breaking news from
John ramos uh here on Fox Sports Radio. We will
now have Wednesday night football at the Football Games. No,
I would like, what would be a good game for
you tomorrow night? What would be? Would it would be
exciting for two teams that everybody says, who wants to
watch a game like this? Would it with like a
last second drive by a team to score and win?

(30:19):
I mean, what would be a good game between two
teams that we consider not a good matchup on a
Thursday night? Okay, First of all, I have breaking news. Okay,
do you have a breaking news center? I gotta find
it here. All right, there you go. That's it. Not
the real one I wanted, like a breaking news sounder. Boy,
you don't have a we have a policy. Yeah there

(30:42):
the dogs are howling. Yeah, Dan, you could explain with policy.
I don't know. This is we didn't have an introductory
press conference that nobody showed me around. What do you got?
We just don't want to confuse what could be funny
ha haa breaking news with actual breaking news. Okay, well
this is actual breaking news. It's not funny. It's pretty awesome.
John Carlos Stanton just hit a home run. Uh do

(31:04):
you have fifty six heading into the day or so?
He just hit his fifty six home run of the
year as the Marlins now have a nine to two
lead over the New York Mets. That actually just happened.
So I'm actually paying attention. This is weird. I'm the
one correcting you saying Jake Lamoto when Jackman Jake at center, Well,

(31:28):
this is something actually not seriously usually that's me. And
then Ramos is like tonight's game. I was like, wait,
Tonight's game. Um, but what were you guys talking about?
I was, I was, I was doing the breaking news
thing before Ramo stopped talking. So Ramo's what was your Oh,
what would be a good game? Yes, because we've going
into toron night's game, we considered it not a good game, right,

(31:51):
people are not gonna watch the Rams versus fort and
what would be a good game in that sense? I
would like, would that be, oh my god, you missed
a great game last was? I think? Yeah? Or I
mean all honestly, Like I could watch Broncos Bills. I

(32:12):
could watch ahead of that game, just because Bills at home.
There's some energy and there's some some juice in the place,
right and like this is gonna be awful. I'm calling
it right now, A five kickoff outside in Santa Clara,
California for a crummy oh and two team going against

(32:32):
the one and one l A Rams team that nobody
thinks of as the l A Rams. Like there's going
to bed people in the stadium at kickoff. This is
the worst. The NFL is doing a bad job. I
told you doing a bad job of scheduling. Like I
get that you put Odell Beckham Jr. And the Giants

(32:53):
on Monday Night football. Why wouldn't you put them on
a football in its September eleven? Like, this is not
that hard, Like I get it, you get you put
them with the Dallas Cowboys. You can put anybody with
Dallas Cowboys. But that's a terrible game and you can't
have you shouldn't have a primetime game be West Coast
five thirty on a Thursday on Russia Shota by the way,

(33:16):
not that there's a ton of Jewish, but but it's
even if it's a small percentage of viewers or people
that are going to the game, Like you want to
give yourself every opportunities to succeed. Buccaneers, Vikings better, Falcons,
Lions better, Broncos, Bills more interesting. Uh, Texans, Patriots much better, Giants,

(33:40):
Eagles better. And I get like, it's the NFL network game.
It's the bottom of the barrel. You can't tell me
you couldn't Saints Panthers, you couldn't have gotten instead you've
got a West Coast game. So part of it is
the NFL is shooting themselves in the foot not only
putting a bad game on in one of their prime
time slots, but a bad game in a primetime slot

(34:01):
West Coast five thirty kickoff. No one's going to be
there and no one really cares. Guess who's the next
m v P in the NFL. I'll tell you that next.
But first, uh, I've told you before about one week
fantasy football and how awesome it is because if you're
up on the league and up on who's playing and

(34:23):
who's going to get the football, and you can't you
can't beat it. And there's this new game that Draft
Kings has, it's called Pick Them. And the best part
about it is we talked about the speed of information,
the speed. How about the speed of picking a team
eight players. There's eight different tiers. You just pick one
player from each tier and about a big about a

(34:43):
bank bata boom, You're done. The best part is you
get to draft a new team each week without any commitment.

Fox Sports Radio. Uh we are getting past that. We're

(35:29):
getting to the point of no return. Uh in with
one NFL team. We'll discuss that in mere moments. In
the meantime, let's play a game same. This is Game
time side on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Promost on the

(35:52):
Ones and twos, Dan Buyer with the game when he
got Buyer, I think we have guests who but the
way today is gone. I'm not sure. Hey, al right,
something's gone right this man. I gotta get it on
track on this on this hump day. Gotta get the
caffeine in me. Doug, guess who is now tied with
Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers for having the best odds

(36:14):
of winning the NFL m v P. This according to
Bravada Stafford yes, five to one, he Brady and Roger.
Uh Aaron Rodgers dropped from a week ago was a
three to one favorite. Wed you like to touch on these?

(36:36):
How about the likes of Derek Carr nine to one,
met Ryan and Jamis Winston. I'll tend to one but
Stafford at the top, But I don't think Jamis is
a better bet. Derek car is a better bet. I
always love to bring the off the board ones. You know,
we had David Johnson because he suffered the injury, Odell
Beckham Jr. Off the board, Blake Portals off the board,

(36:57):
who knew he was even on the board in the
first play? Also Andrew Luck off the board and Leonard
four net. So after that great week one, not so
much in Week two. Off the board today? Uh? Doug.
Guess who snubbed Rockies reliever Pat Nishek multiple times for
an autograph despite the fact that they were teammates on
the NL All Star team. Wait well, uh oh uh, yes, yes,

(37:22):
that is correct. The Rockies reliever had asked him and
thought they had an agreement that he would sign something,
and then when the time came to sign it, Grinky
didn't do it. Nishek then approached him, and all of
a sudden, this back and forth ended up happening between
the two. Really more from Nischeck side of things, kind
of mad that Grinky wouldn't sign the autographs, and in fact,
Granky responded once, even if it was your kid, I

(37:44):
wouldn't sign the autograph. Um, who's that called? There's actually
a term in baseball jer no, no, no, no, no,
there's a there's a baseball term shoot oh man in um, gosh, golly,
there's a there's a baseball term for doing that. When

(38:05):
you do somebody is solid and you agree to sign
an autograph for him, it's called a green fly. Okay,
green fly? And uh yeah, this is a simple green play.
This is a gentleman's agreement in baseball which exists, and
I think most people in baseball would would be on
team knee shack off if, in fact it was a
previous agreement. I have a couple of other terms for it,
but we can't say those on the radio guests who

(38:26):
Doug guess, uh, guess who is a young All Star
in the NBA and is meeting with Nike today but
reportedly leaning towards signing a shoe deal with Adidas. I
know this is kind of vague, but what what what sport? NBA?
What Young All Star is meeting with Nike today about
a possible shoe deal, but it's supposed to sign with Adidas.
Young All Star Carl Anthony, town No, Janice and Teta Kompo. Yes,

(38:51):
looking for a big shoe deal from either Nike or Adidas.
A report from ESPN says that he is meeting with
Nike today but seems to be leaning towards the three stripes.
By the way, a green fly is uh is somebody
who hangs out in green fly is actually somebody who
hangs out in lobbies and stuff and uh, you know,
you know stocks the team bus and I actually I
actually used to wait at Angel games or whatever when

(39:13):
I was a little kid. I was a green fly
a kid. Yes, these are these are non baseball adults.
It is not a term of endearment. Yes, correct, correct?
I guess who dug still has hopes that he will
be traded by Monday when training camp starts in the NBA.
Anthony pretty easy camps start on Monday, and reports from
the New York Daily News say that Mellow hopes to
be dealt, or at least those in his camp hope

(39:35):
he has dealt by Monday before those practices begin. I
guess the problem is that it hasn't happened yet. Why
is it gonna happen? Right? Like, whereas I don't know
what Houston's gonna send back and return, it felt like
Cleveland was a more likely destination, but again he said
he only wanted to go to Cleveland. So like, when
you want out and there's nothing much can be sent

(39:57):
in return, why would I trade you? You know, if
you're you're still an asset. I think you hold out
if you're the Nicks to get a better deal. That's
that's why they haven't dealt him yet. Guess who on
the crew Dug once dated Ashanti? No, I'm just kidding, umu.
Who on the crew? Than you had a fear of
pool vacuums when he was a kid because he thought

(40:17):
the thing would eat him alive. That's you, No, No,
that would be Ryan music. And that's how we play
a game. This is game time. On the Duck Gotli Show,
you had to pull a fear of pool vacuums. Yeah,

(40:38):
when I was a kid, I would not go in
the pool if the vacuum was in there and on
and moving around. I thought it was like some creature
that would just eat you if you in the water. Look,
I mean, my wife has a as a fear of
our kids. We have a pool getting you know, getting
stuck near the drain, right, Like, don't go near the
drain right, Like that's a legitimate fear. Pool vacuum is
kind of a weird. I would equate it to like dogs.

(40:59):
How dogs don't real life vacuums. That's basically how I
felt about pool vacuums. It's like in the vacuums. Yeah,
in the vacuum vacuum up the woobee and Mr Mr
Mom references is Andrew Luck on his way out of
Indianapolis and should he sit out the entire season? We
discuss next What up? Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio,

(41:23):
m M. I was watching the Colts playing the preseason.
I know, I know, I know, what are you doing
watch in the Colts playing in the preseason? And I
reported back to you after checking with several of my
friends who work in the NFL. I watch him play
against Dallas Cowboys, and I was like, as the worst
football team I've seen in a long time in comparison. Right,

(41:49):
it's hard if you went to a practice like we
went to three practice, went to Cowboys practice, went to
Rams practice, went to Chargers practice, Right, so what you're
seeing the team go against the itself, it's hard to know,
like are they any good? Right? Like that's hard. So
the reason that you need preestinct games you just you
do need to see both teams on opposite sides of

(42:10):
the ball and go like, okay, well that dog all
hunt or you know, uh, that's gonna be a long year.
So watching a team go against itself, you can't tell.
Watching a team gets another team like whoa, wow, one
team is way better than the other one. That's how
I felt Cowboys versus Colts. And so I called around

(42:30):
to tell people in the NFL, and they were like
all of them said the same thing. That's a terrible roster.
That's a bad roster. And it's bad at some at
some spots to which it's hard hard to fix, and
so and and even the parts that are good aren't
really that good. Outside of when they have a healthy

(42:51):
Andrew Luck, who can hide so many of your flaws.
People underestimate how much he can run, how big he
is to take a hit. Now good he's been. Andrew
Lux already been ruled out for the game against the
Cleveland Browns this week. I want, I want you to
remember this sentence something you did not think you would hear,
and you might not hear again. The Cleveland Browns are

(43:14):
road favorites in Indianapolis. Browns are on two start, a
rookie quarterback um in his first road start, and they
are road favorites in Indianapolis. Think about that, like, and

(43:35):
you can tell me, and I've told you, like I
didn't think Jacoby Brissett was that good anyway, Like when
he's I thought New England got over on them. So
you you can tell me why you gotta starry Jacoby Brisset, Like, Hey,
Jacoby Brissett wasn't it was a fourth round pick, the
round pick a couple years, two years ago. And I
mean it's not like Deshan Kaiser, who played at Notre Dame,

(43:55):
was expect is at this point should be further along
than a guy who's been in the League for a
year and it started. This will be his at fourth
start in the NFL, So you actually have, in this
case set a more experienced starter starting against the Browns.

(44:16):
And it's in Indie and their home dogs. It says
all you need to know what Vegas thinks and when
America thinks about the talent on both sides of the football.
So here's the question. The next game for the Colts
is in Seattle. Now, could you play Andrew Luck if

(44:38):
he's healthy in Seattle? You could? You could, and maybe
that's what they'll do. A couple of years ago an
epic showdown, they played Seattle beat him at home, and
Andrew made a couple of throws that five people who
have ever thrown the football can make incredible player. But
let's say he doesn't play because you're like, look, I'd

(44:58):
like to play him. But again, Seattle on the road.
The chance he gets beating up behind that offensive line,
and the fact that he won't have seen live bullets,
is that the first game you want to put Andrew
Luck out there and play. If you're going four, you
gotta at least consider shutting him down. And then the
question gets even larger. I mean, really, The question is this.

(45:21):
There have been reports out of Indie that Andrew Luck
in his camp whatever not terribly happy. How could you
be happy? Granted he's been playing hurt. I will grant
you wasn't great last year, and when he's out it
gives them no chance to compete in the NFL. But
you're getting towards the prime years of his career and
the team is getting worse, not better. So here's the choice.

(45:46):
Do you keep the first round pick when you have
a team that does not have that's missing in so
many important positions. You need a volume of talents. One
of the things that San Francisco has done they got
a bunch of picks next year. One of thing the
Browns have done this year they got a bunch of
picks next year as well, they get two first round
draft picks next year, is they put themselves in position.

(46:08):
Football is a numbers game, right. The more numbers of
athletes you get, the better shot you have to rebuild things.
One guy here, one guy there. You only do that
if you're feel like you're close to winning a championship.
When you have a you have a talent disparity, you
gotta add numbers of guys, because even the draft, even
the first round, is at best the cult. You have

(46:33):
two choices, right, you trade Luck and get a pirate's bounty,
or you trade the pick and you get a pretty
good bounty. If you trade the pick, you could get
and we don't know what the pick ends up becoming,
you have the Jets whatever to compete with. It probably

(46:53):
becomes more valuable because there are quarterbacks in this draft.
You know, it's better than um last year or the
year before. Early picks, assuming that Rosen, assuming that Donald,
assuming Josh Allen, assuming those, all of them are available
early in the first round. Pretty valuable top three selection

(47:13):
if you're the Colts, especially if you shut Lucked down.
But Luck would be more valuable. A proven veteran top
ten quarterback under contract for however long you want to
keep him. Is it a lot of money? Sure, but
remember the Colts will pay have paid him health the
amount in his first year of that The first two
years of that contract was redone before last year. Right

(47:34):
in the first say you pay a bunch early on.
Everything else can be reworked like. It's not a money deal.
It's not like the NBA where you have to have
dollar for dollar, And there's like fifteen teams that would
take Andrew Luck in a heartbeat. So you could have
competitive bidding against one another, and you could say, well,
the Colts, you would never trade away Andrew Luck. Wouldn't
you say you would never trade away Peyton Manning? And

(47:55):
they did, or at least Peyton many they did the fascinest.
The reason the Colts are fascinating is they have an
asset that everybody believes to be a prime asset. They
are going nowhere. They are home dogs to a rookie
quarterback lead Cleveland Browns team Vegas, the NFL fans, everybody's

(48:19):
telling you the Colts just don't have the players, don't
have the horses. And what's next is interesting. In order,
do you play luck at all? And once you get
you're gonna get a good pick. When you get the
good pick, do you trade Luck? What do you trade
to pick? I mean, personally, it depends when you can
get for Luck. But I would I would absolutely at

(48:41):
least consider trading Luck. Consider. Don't get my words misconstrued.
I like you consider trading anybody on a football team.
Because you got fifty three guys, anybody you can consider
trading anybody in baseball team or a basketball team. What
am I going to get back in return? If I'm
gonna get a huge amount in return? Like, all right,
I got consider it. I don't want to trade Andrew Luck.

(49:04):
I do think he's as good as advertised. I do
think you can rebuild. But I also understand an Indie
is tough because they have so many holes that if
you simply plugged the quarterback hole, that doesn't make up
for all the other holes in the Dike. Daniel Jeremiah
from the NFL Network joins the show next. I'll get
his thoughts, Um, I'll get his thoughts on the Colts.

(49:29):
Are they as bad as I think? Would you do
you consider trading Luck? Or do you think you trade
a pick that could be one of the one of
the quarterbacks? He wanted to talk about those quarterbacks, Donald Great, Late,
Okay Early Rosen. Couple of bad interceptions, but a team
that can't run the football? Does this make him back
off what he thinks of of Josh Rose step to

(49:51):
loss at Memphis. We'll talk some college quarterbacks, talk some Chiefs,
some Colts, and the rest of the NFL with Daniel
Jeremiah from NFL Network upcoming next. But first, you already

You can see him on the NFL Network. I also

of things to get to. He's Jail Jeremiah works for
the NFL Network. He jones this weekly here on the
Doug Gottlieb Show. As we have all said, all of
us feel a little bit off today, DJ, So you

(51:40):
talk in NFL make us feel better. I've I've said,
it's like, why do we all feel off? And it's
like this one of a a few days of the week
there's no NFL. And since we all love the we
just love football. Right, If you don't have the one
you love in your life, even for a day, you
just feel a little bit off, right, no question. Uh, Look,
it's it's weird. We get football between college NFL. Now
feels like it's almost seven days a week, except except Tuesday,

(52:04):
so it's actually five days a week, right, I mean
you get a little Wednesday sometimes they get that action
stuff on a Tuesday or a Wednesday. But yeah, it's
it's it's weird. Let's start with the college game. Sam
Donald does it again, incredible comeback in the coliseum, but uh,
he doesn't have the weaponry at wide receiver that he
can trust like he did last year. And his offense,

(52:25):
I don't know. His offense kind of feels fairly predictable.
Texas did a great job of taking away the run
and and and USC looked beatable. As a guy who
watched as watched film for a living and watch the
film now for work, what's your take on on Sam
Donald as of now? Well, I'll tell you what I'm
I get accused of being a Sam Donald apologist, but
I can only tell you what I see from the

(52:46):
from the tape. When I went back and watched it,
I counted eight balls that hit USC receivers in the
hands that they didn't finish. Some of those were contact
drops where they got hit, but still a perfect gets
thrown balls should have been caught and here's Sam Donald
throws three with eight drops. I mean he could have
a five yard passing day. So I mean I thought

(53:06):
he's playing at a really high level. Had the two picks,
one of them was a pick six that went right
through Jalen Green's hands. Um, So look, I I think
people worried about Sam Donald. There's other things to worry about.
I wouldn't worry about him. Okay, what about the He
he did work on his throwing mechanics in the off season,
But as anybody who's ever tried to work on shooting mechanics,
throwing mechanics, swing mechanics, once the game starts, a lot

(53:28):
of times you have game slippage. How are his mechanics
through through these first three games. I would say it's similar,
very similar to last year. You know, the one thing
about it is you can take out the throws, you
can find the throws where he's really really well and
thinking you can make it look bad and okay, this
is gonna be a big issue. But when you really
study him, he gets long when he has room in
the pocket and he's really pushing the ball vertically down

(53:51):
the field. When when space constricts he can tighten up
and shorten up his motion. So it's not the same,
it's not the same delivery every single time. Like you'll
see what the Josh Rosen where it's just beautiful textbook
every single time the way you would you would teach it. Um.
But what he needs to he can he can tighten
it up a little bit. All right, what about Rosen?
They go on the road, he throws the cold picks,
they lose. Um? What what? What are you? What's your

(54:14):
assessment of how Rosen's playing? Well? I thought he actually,
you know, when you watch that, he's it's the same
thing that we've seen with him really last year and
this year where you see the unbelievable throws and probably
of the time he's dialed in and it's just beautiful.
And then he's got a handful of just bonehead plays

(54:34):
that he's had, and he had him. He had him
this week against Memphis, cross body, you know, thrown across
your body, interception, pick six, key moment the game, and
a couple other times where he just he's trying to
do too much. So he's got to find a way
to eliminate those couple of plays because if he does,
and golly, I was watching my I told Bucky Brooks
this the other day. I said that he reminded me
of a young Carson palmerk just because it's just so beautiful.

(54:57):
I mean, the footwork, the release, the velocity, everything. It's
just like teaching taper. Okay, so now let's let's go
to Josh Allen of Wyoming. The completion percentage has never
been high, but he does check a lot of boxes.
How's Josh Allen looked onto take? Well, he's struggling right now. Um,

(55:18):
and you look at kind of what's around him. There's
not a lot of speed outside. They're not great up front,
and uh, he's really really present, so you know, you
can't you can't excuse it away. And some of the
fumbles that he had where he's just the ball pops
out of his hand. He's got to clean that stuff up.
But he looks like a frustrated quarterback when you watch him,
and you can kind of understand it. They were way

(55:38):
out matched against Oregon, and uh, I thought the same
thing against Iowa when you watch those two games. But
besides the arm strength, the athleticism, that's all there, but
you're gonna have to buck a lot of trends if
you're gonna take him really high, because the statistics say
when you look at some of those numbers with a
low completion percentage and and potentially not a great win
loss record in your last year in college, it's not

(56:00):
a great track record for those guys. But man, his
his skill set is definitely intriguing all idea. Look the
there there have been past Oklahoma State quarterbacks that haven't
panned out in the NFL, but Mason Rudolph has more experienced.
You mentioned complete percentage right now running at what do
you have a four or six interceptions all the last

(56:20):
year He's eleven and one touchdown interceptions last this year,
I mean he was He was crazy efficient in terms
of touchdowns interceptions last year. Look that they do play
in a kind of a traditional college system. But he's big.
He feels like he can make every throw. Is he
creeping any closer to the Big Three? Yeah? I think
he is. And this is this is one I didn't

(56:42):
get a chance to study that tape yet. I haven't
watched him. I haven't really watched much of him this year,
waiting for them kind of getting the meat of their schedule,
and I'll really jump in. But I got a text
from a scout during the game that was that was
there at the game, and he said, look, this is
the textbook reason of why you come back to school.
This kid, it is from whatever issues he had last year,
he has cleaned a lot of it up. He said,

(57:04):
you know, he this this dude was really impressed with them,
and so he's he's getting some buzzs. He's getting some
buzzing scouting circles, no doubt. That's Uh Daniel Jeremiah from
the NFL Network. Course, he and Bucky Brooks have that
incredible podcast. You joined us here in the Doug Gottlib
Show on Fox Sports trailer. Let's let's get to the
big boys on Sundays. Um, what's wrong with the Cowboys offense?
Other than playing on the road? Denver very good defense.

(57:26):
But when you watch tape, what do you see what
that's wrong with the Cowboys offense? Well, there's a couple
of new pieces there on the offensive line, and you know,
everybody just kind of was like, Lile Collins is really
really talented and he'll just jump right in there and
they won't skip a beat. Um, I looked they were
a little bit out of sink a little bit. And
not only that. I thought the Broncos defense when I
watched the tape, I saw him not only winning with

(57:48):
quickness and kind of getting on edges and disrupting, they
were just flat out pushing the Cowboys line back. Um.
You look at at Peco the nose tackle hooping zone
against Frederick in there, and then addsis Um and Wolf
at the defensive end spots. They just did the Cowboys
can get me push and then they didn't commit to it,
so they didn't run the ball enough to even try

(58:09):
and try and get it going. So it'll be to
see how teams are just against them going forward. Because
the Broncos rolled out there with three corners and one
safety and put extra linebacker in there and it worked
really well. So well if that can be copycat thing
here going forward. Just the challenge for most teams you
don't have three corners like that to line up and
man up. Yeah, I also would tell you that again

(58:30):
more Lehman's eye is boy Dak's shown some of his flaws.
Not that he's he doesn't get him in the right things,
but it doesn't he doesn't throw guys open, and he
doesn't have pinpoint accuracy, which which was some of the
flaws that guys like you brought up before he was
ever drafted with them the main reasons he fell in
the draft. Are you seeing some of that same stuff? Well, yeah,
I mean, look, you just you see the running game

(58:52):
not get going, and then everything's gonna get real tight
because I got a lot of bodies up there, and
I only stop the run, but now they can play
run to pass and they're collapsing the pocket on him
a little bit, and they're not getting away from people.
So when you got coverage like the Broncos provide, you've
got to anticipate. You gotta throw guys open. And that's
as you say that, that's not been a big strength

(59:13):
of his. He's been able to come off play action
and get guys in free windows and throw the ball accurately,
but it's not necessarily an anticipatory thing. Danna Jeremiah joining
us in the Doug Gottlip Show. You watched the Eagles
take on the Chiefs. Chiefs obviously don't have don't have
Eric Barry. Let's start with Let's start with Carson wentz Um.

(59:34):
You know, look, he made some wild plays Week one,
but when you saw him go against the defense that
knew the offense. What did you see from wins on
that tape? I thought thought he was he was solid.
They couldn't protect him. Um, that was a big issue
for them, especially at left guard with Isaac Samulo had
a rough time with Chris Jones. He had a hat
trick against him. Um. But you know, I saw them

(59:55):
get Alshon Jeffrey more involved. Um. I thought Carson still
looks then it some plays and did some good things there.
We were all. I thought he played fine. They just
they got to do a better job of protecting him.
And they have to get some semblance of a run
game going. They couldn't get that that rolling. And then
when you flip it over to the other side, I
asked the Philly's defense for the most part, handled Kansas
City's offense. I mean, both those defensive lines I thought

(01:00:18):
were significantly better than the guys blocking them. The Chiefs, though,
were able to pop a run with Kareem Hunt and
the Eagles weren't able to pull that off. Doug Gottlives
show Fox Sports Radio. How good are the Chiefs? I Mean,
I've heard people say best team in the NFL. Is
that what you see. I don't know how I'm gonna
go there yet, but they're they're playing well. I mean,

(01:00:40):
I think offensively that they've got a little step back
from the New England game to the to the Philadelphia game.
But I think you can look at the defensive lines
with those two teams, and the Eagles are just much
much better than the Patriots up front. So that was understandable.
I tell you what the team that of all the
teams in the a f C that I've watched over
the last over the first two weeks, Denver, with the
ability to lock guys up with those corners and with

(01:01:02):
Simeon playing at a level I didn't think he was
capable of playing, that that'd be the team might be
worried about. Well now, now, look, in fairness, they played
at home. Let's see what they do on the road. Like, Look,
those are two good wins, but two good wins at home,
and they very very easily, Uh could have been forced
into overtime by the Chargers, who who can't get out
of their own way, can't find a way to I
can't make a kick. I mean, you cut Lambeau because

(01:01:24):
you thought he couldn't make kicks important kicks, and you
know now he gets one blocked week one and the
misses two. In Week two, Danna Jeremiah joining US Giants
took on the Lions. Everybody's talking about Eric Flowers, some
are talking about Eli Manning. When you see the tape,
what do you see? Well, I mean, Eric Flowers was
an easy target, But when I watched the video, I thought,

(01:01:45):
Eli has got to help him out a little bit,
get the ball out of his hand. And then even
when you get some pressure, you know, Eli gave himself
up once. I'm kind of torn on that. I get
protecting yourself. You know, his brother Payton did it for
a long time. Tom Brady will do it. I get it.
With somebody's barrel barreling in on you have coming right
in your face. But when you've got side pressure and
you just kind of fall on the ground, it just

(01:02:06):
looks looks bad. But they've got to play better up front,
and I don't know if they have the personnel to
get that done. How good are Lions? They're good. It's
a different Lions team. And what was the last time
we've seen a Lions team that could win with Matthew
Stafford throwing for like a buck. So they've got a
defense that's rolling right now. Jared Davis is playing lights out.
The rookie out of Florida has been awesome, and they're

(01:02:28):
running the ball. I mean that's something defense in the
run games. Not something we've talked about much with the
Lions recently. So, uh, what do you do if you're
the Colts like that, you're getting Look, they don't have
the talent of most of the teams in the league.
Their home dogs to the Browns this week. Let's say
they lose to the Browns. Yeah, I go to Seattle

(01:02:48):
next and I don't know. If you throw Luck out
there first game, you throw out there's in Seattle. If
you don't throw them out there, you have no chance
with him. You still don't have much of a chance
on the road. You're staring Owen for let's say you're
owing four, like, do you shut him down for the year?
That was my thought, and I've been talking about this
for a little bit, and then I actually got some
quick back from somebody in the league that said, I

(01:03:10):
don't know, man, Luck Luck missed a lot of time
last year. He wasn't playing great before he got hurt
last year and then he's gonna miss the whole season
this year. I mean, are we Are we just assuming
that he's gonna come back after a majority of two
years off and he's gonna be some great player. I mean,
I think he could use the reps if you can
get him back out there. Um, so that that's a

(01:03:30):
tricky one. But my first thought was was with you,
why bring him back in a losing effort. You're not
gonna win anything this year if you're owing five and uh,
you know and Andrew Luck is healthy enough to play,
Why would you just shut him down? And then you
could be holding the number one pick and a year
traded for a king's ransom and get the guys some help. Yeah,
so you trade the pick, you don't trade Luck. That

(01:03:51):
would be my that would be my guests, just because
of Luck still in his prime like this, And the
other thing is it might be difficult getting somebody to
jump on and board with a huge trade off for
considering his money and the uncertainty of his health if
he hadn't played much in two years. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I mean, but couldn't you get more for Luck? Who's
at least a proven commodity as opposed to somebody who

(01:04:12):
has never played it down in the NFL. Granted, you
run a bunch more risk of your you know, your
valuation being right if you do it that way. Yeah,
But I'm telling you there's a line of thinking that's
that's made its way through the NFL. I started with
the Seahawks with Russell Wilson. Is man, if you can
get with this salary structure with the rookie quarterback, and
you get control for five years, you've got a lot
of money to build up the rest of your roster.

(01:04:33):
So you do trade the pick, So you do trade Luck? Well,
that's what well I mean, that's that's why I'm thinking
would be more attractive to a team trying to make
the trade with Indianapolis if I if I'm making a
trade with Indianapolis, I would rather have the rights to
the number one pick than the rights to Andrew Luck
and all of his money. Daniel Jeremiah, by the way,
I would. We saw the Saints traded linebacker. They got

(01:04:53):
to be selling That team stinks too. That team has
no chance. Yeah, they're bad. They're sneaky bad though, because
they never get mentioned with a really bad teams. Well
they've they've they've gotten decept they've gotten they haven't stopped anybody,
and now their offense isn't that good either. Like that's
that's the there there's the other part. The part is
they haven't stopped anybody for since since uh what was
it bounty gate? Right? But now they now they got

(01:05:16):
all these running backs and a team that doesn't really
like to run the football, quarterback that likes to throw it. Like,
now you've got Now you've got major issues on offense
to go along with all their issues on defense. That's
a recipe for disaster. Well, I mean, I just ask
you the question when you're doing an advanced scouting report,
and I'm sure it's like this in basketball too, is okay,
who you gotta worry about here? And you look at

(01:05:36):
them on both sides of the ball, who do you
circle on that on that sheet and go, man, don't
let this guy beat you. I don't know who that is.
I don't know who that is. I don't know who
that is. I'm with you, I've I'm in. I've been
I've been off the Colts and off the Saints long
long before it was cool to be, and I'm glad
that somebody who actually watches the tape agrees with me.

God's one of those days, Dan buy, are just one
of those days. Shyankees win. Yankees win, No, they did
against the Twins eleven to three, and Aaron Judge at
his forty home run of the season for the Yankees.
Gary Sanchez also homeward as well for the Bronx Bombers
as they got even more separation from the Twins in

(01:06:40):
that American they got wild card race for the top
spot very well. It could be a preview of that
American leaguet wild card game with the Twins and Yankees.
Marlins aren't likely going anywhere in the postseason, but Gian
Carlos Stanton keeps on moving up the home run list
number fifty six. Today, Marlin's dropped the Mets nine to two,
as beat the Tigers three to two. Will right now
in San Francisco, the Giants lead the Rockies one nothing.

(01:07:03):
Colorado started the day just a game up on Milwaukee
for the final NL Wild Card. Patriots tended Rob Gronkowski
was able to practice today despite suffering a growing injury
their week to win against these Saints. Danni Amadola back
practicing for the Patriots as well. The wide outmiss these
Saints game because of a concussion. Panthers wide receiver Calvin
Benjamin didn't practice today because of knee and rib injuries,

(01:07:24):
while Redskins tenant Jordan Reid sent out practice with a
chess contusion and remains day today. Redskins have the Raiders
in Sunday Night Football and Vikings quarterback Doug sam Bradford
was on the practice field today throwing passes, but remains
day to day with the knee injury. Of course, didn't
make it through warmups on Sunday in Pittsburgh and didn't
play in that game against the Steelers. He was case
Keenan who got the start with Bradford at least back

(01:07:45):
on the practice field today, was not on the practice
fuel and practice ended, so he was limited in practice.
Some of you saw that report where he said, like, uh,
he felt something in his knee early on, it was
non contact, and then he got worse and worse than
the game went on and he just did not feel
right on Sunday. He wouldn't respond as exactly what it was,
but said it's not something he's dealt with before, So

(01:08:06):
it sounds to me like something he felt a pop, right,
Like again, I'm just deducing here. It felt a pop.
It's not an a c L. A is a c
L is fine, but he probably tore some cartildge and
he's gonna have to play with with that. His knees.
His left n's a mess. They go in, they clean
that thing out two years in a row, like you're
gonna have scar tissue. It's gonna be a mess. And

(01:08:27):
you guys, I'm sure saw that report. I remember. I
think I was listening to your show on Sunday morning
when you guys were talking a little bit about it,
which was the reports were that there was so much
scar tissue in his left knee that they couldn't even
tell if the A C L was intact, right, Like,
that just doesn't sound good. I had the m R

(01:08:47):
I on that Tuesday of last week, and then act
there were reports that case Keenum was taking more and
more snaps in practice and the warm up dug on
Sunday didn't last long. It wasn't like he went through
the whole thing and was like, you know what, I
don't think this is gonna work. Just shut it downe Nope.
It reminded me of when I was in school at
Notre Dame. My dorm room faced the South quad. There's

(01:09:09):
two quad. There's actually three quads of Notre Dame. There's
North Quad, South Quad, and and when I at least
when I was in square, there's God Quad, which is
uh the quad where at the end of it is
the Golden Dome. And um I was in the first floor.
I used to stick my hand out of the window
and if it was like the if the wind was
so sharp that it was like my hand was like
frozen at the end of thirty seconds, then I would

(01:09:31):
bring it back in and go Noope, not going to class. Nope, right,
that's exactly you know, it's it's or or you ever
do you ever get in the batting cage? You guys
ever go to batting cages? Batting cages are fun. They
are fun. They are fun. What what speed do you
go to? John? I like Nolan Ryan. They have the
batting kidge I go to has the names of famous pictures.

(01:09:54):
So it's like a hundreds a yeah, like I like
to go really fast, but you can hit a hunter didn'
say I could hit it. You asked me where would
you just go and stand it at? I tried to
swing it and I'd just like to see where I
stand with Nolan Ryan pitching. So it's really that fast,
that's I think it's more like nineties somewhere in there.
No one really Yeah, I want video face Phil Nikro

(01:10:18):
is that would that be better? Well? I mean I
just like again my point is, I've I've done that
where you get in the cages and like six years
like seventy, it starts seventy starts humming in there, just like, whoa,
that's that's fast. You ever gotten there in the cages?
Just like it's don't like like cranked up to eighty
and he's like, nope, nope, not happening. This is not

(01:10:38):
happening today. That's what Sam Bradford did. He stuck his
hand out at the South Quad and was like, no,
this is back to going back to Sunday. Do you
think your parents like the fact that that's how you
decided to go to class on daily basis whether or
not you stuck your hand out. My parents were not
paying for my education, so help. I remember getting my
grant aid at the time. It was like at the time,
I think was eighteen was it six? Like seventy five

(01:11:01):
year now to go to Notre Dame. So remember, for
like the first semester, you get like a a bill
in the mail and the bill was like I think
it was like eighteen at the time, it was like
eighteen thousand dollars and then it says like minus eighteen
thousand dollars grant aid. You're like, so, why do I
get a bill? But you? But you do? So? Uh

(01:11:23):
but no, my coaches wouldn't. They'd know he didn't go
to class and then they go like, hey didn't you
don't got a class day? Like here's how I wasn't
used to the cold. So I grew up in southern California, people,
we are not listening, don't don't know that. I went
to Notre Dame my first year and it was we're
not in October yet right still September. It was probably
early October, maybe late September. It was like forty five

(01:11:48):
degrees one morning and we had morning workout. And so
I had never owned a I had owned a park
up early on. And remember when Starter us after starter jackets,
and they were Starter parkas, can remember those. So the
starter jackets were like the satin ones, like the shiny ones.
The parkas were more I don't even know the material,

(01:12:10):
but you know. And and in California, least southern California,
you couldn't have a King's parka or a Raiders parka
because that was gang paraphernalia. So the way around it
and to get a black park out was to get
in Orlando Magic parka. So I do Orlando Magic park right.
First of all, they don't wear parka's in Orlando, let alone,
where I'm not. I wasn't actually even a Orlando Magic fan,

(01:12:32):
but it's my way around. And I got it because
my uncle lived in uh, where do you live? In Stanford, Connecticut?
And whenever I go out there. We drive up to
uh New Haven and that's where the starter outlet was.
That's where I actually made the starter jackets anyway, So
that was the only real park I had. I don't
even know. I don't even know if those were actually
warm for the winter. I do know East Coast Guy's warm.

(01:12:55):
So I get ready to go to college and my
my mom like, this is a big mistake. I make
it again. My mom bought like an LLL bean like
green parka and it was warm. It was ugly, but
it was warm and so and it was one of
those it had the you could pull the pull the
hood up on it and then button up the hood

(01:13:15):
that would cover up your face. And if it gets
really cold, have you ever been somewhere really coold? Do
you actually need your face covered? You need your eyes,
cover your your boogers will freeze, you know. And it
was it was like fleet, I don't know, lined with
I think real geese were inside of it. That's how
thick it was, that's how warm it was. So it
gets to be like forty degrees one morning and I

(01:13:36):
have uh an individual workout at the event. I think
it's called Parsons Pavilion. Or Pursell Pavilion. Now it was
called the Joyce Athletic and conversations out of the jack
So I get my arm. I put my arm outside
and the leaves are starting to turn. I hadn't been
through a fall and it's cold, so I just throw
on my parka. I threw on gloves. I threw on
a beanie right, which I now knows a stocking cap,

(01:14:00):
but in California called a beanie. Put on a beanie
hopping my bike ride down to the gym. I pull
into the gym and the coaches are getting ready to
go out for the individual workout, and they look at
me and they start laughing. Alright, I got like sweatpants on.
I was like, what are you guys laughing at? They
tell me to go into the office. They have the
secretary take a picture of me and put it up

(01:14:20):
there because it's like fifty degrees outside, because they thought
it was hilarious that I would need to wear a Parker.
One's fifty degrees, Like what are you gonna do when
it's actually cold outside? It's like, it's not actually cold
right now, Like no, this has nothing like cold South
ben cold ten degrees snowblowing sideways, boogers freezing now is
really really cold. They actually they clowned me so bad.

(01:14:41):
They took pictures of me in my parker because it's
fifty degrees outside. I know you're from Wisconsin. That's fifty
degrees is actually summer? Need to take off your shirt
and run naked in the in the in the in
the leaves. Here's the select Quote difference. Most companies give

Jason Smith My Show. So many different shows to choose from.

(01:16:07):
We picked the best stuff we're talking about now. First
Thing's First features Chris Carter, Hall of Fame wide receiver.
He had this to say about Kim Newton. I think
Cam is an elite quarterback, all right, but this is
a division that is the only division in pro football
that has four elite quarterbacks. And they go like this.

(01:16:28):
If I'm having a draft to day, Jenna and I
get the number one pick, and I need a quarterback
out of that division, the NFC South, I take Mattie
Ice out of Atlanta. If I have picked number two,
regardless of how much time they have left, I take
Drew Brees. If I have a third pick, all right,
the rising star in Tampa Bay. I take Jameis Winston

(01:16:53):
because of his pocket presence, and also I think Jamis
is gonna win a championship in the NFL and this
and this is no slight to com because it's the
only division that has four elite guys. I would take
Cam four. Here's the problem with the argument. What does
elite mean? Right? That's the real that's the real crux

(01:17:16):
of the Joe is Joe Flacco elite? Right? The whole
Joe Flacco which became kind of a running joke, like,
is Joe Flacco elite? But the answer is no, He's
not elite. What would you say is elite? Where do
you have to be ranked as a quarterback in order
to be considered elite? Right? Like? Is Tom Brady elite? Yeah?

(01:17:41):
Is Aaron Rodgers elite? Yeah? Okay, so you had four
guys there. He's saying they're all those four elite, But
so are Rogers, who you'd say it was better than
all four of those guys, and so is Brady, who
is at least more accomplished and probably still better this
year than those guys. Wait a second, Now, there's six
guys that are elite. That that's not is Matt Stafford elite,

(01:18:05):
um is Russell Wilson elite is uh uh? You know,
I don't think you put eli and maybe you're maybe
what he's saying is the NFC has no elite quarterbacks
as of now. Winz is only in year two, so's
he's a ways away. You still have Ben Roethlisberger, who
we haven't discussed. You have Derek Carr, who we haven't discussed.

(01:18:26):
You have Philip Rivers, who hasn't been discussed whether or
not you put him in that mix or you don't
put him in that mix. You have Mariota, you have
Andrew Luck. Like, what does elite mean? Ramos? Where is elite?
What does what does the word elite in your mind mean?
Someone who wins on a consistent basis? Oh, I don't
think it has anything to do with wins. I don't.

(01:18:47):
I don't think elite is a select group that is
superior to the rest in terms of ability or qualities.
A select group. You can't have ten guys out of
thirty two teams and say, ah and third of the
league is elite. It's not. That's not what elite is
above the rest. How's that people that are above the

(01:19:08):
rest of the norm? No again, Okay, so music, how
many would you saray in elite? What does the elite
quarterback class? I would say it's probably top five probably,
I'd probably go top five, or maybe maybe top eight,
because then that would make only a quarter of the

(01:19:29):
league top eight when it would be the top quarter.
I still think that the elite. I think you'd go
top four, top five would be elite. Okay, back to
what Ramos said, top the above the rest above the
rest one, I think we're misusing the term elite. Secondly,
I don't think Cam Newton is elite, you know, I

(01:19:53):
just don't. I think there's there's a lot of Allen
Iverson to him in that uh Iverson was a one
time NBA NBA m v P, and Iverson was admired
greatly because of what he could do for his size.
But Iverson was not a great all around basketball player,

(01:20:15):
right He shot only for his career. He was an
is This guy wasn't a great defender, and though he
led a team that wasn't very talented offensively to the
NBA Finals, he had plenty of other teams that wildly
underachieved based upon all this. Nobody actually ever talks about that,

(01:20:35):
but we sometimes like, wow, he's NBA Finals. MVP was
never the best player in the NBA, and Kim Neton
was never the best quarterback in the NFL. He was
seemed to be the the best quarterback of the best team
on a team that played a really soft schedule, and
he had a great year, but we look at everything else,
he's a low Everything about how he plays is traditionally
not successful long term in the NFL. And I also

(01:20:56):
find it interesting that it's like not calling someone elite
is then you're grouping them in with like, oh, well
he sucks, Like no, like I here here's the here's
Here's where that works for me is when I say,
you know, I don't think a team is a top
ten team in college basketball, I think or I think
they're you know, fifteen to twenty or whatever on which
to State was undefeated, and I was like, look, they're

(01:21:17):
not even a top ten team. People weren't crazy. It's like, well,
look there's three fifty teams. If I say you're probably
the fifteen sixteenth best team, that's great, that's a really
good thing. There might be ten spots below where you
think they are, but that's three and whatever spots above
everybody else, So I agree with you. Robert McClean is

(01:21:40):
going to join us from the Tampay Buccaneers. I'll ask him.
I'll ask him, ask the cornerback of the of the
Tampare Buccaneers what his thoughts are on the quarterbacks in
that division and what it was like to sit and
wait did actually help their team in terms of their
preparedness for their first game of the season because we
couldn't play Week one because the because the hurricane. Also

(01:22:03):
and his Cantor is gonna join us next hour. So
if you're losing us on satellite radio, you can get
to the I Heart Radio app, order your Fox Sports
Radio affiliate, and you can hear Nis Cantor, who took
to Twitter to defend his Cats, his teammates, and what
he thinks now that Kevin Durant has said that the
players outside of Russell Westbrook ownership and Billy Donovan and

(01:22:25):
the reason he left. That's all up coming next down
on the Doug Gotlip Show, Fox Sports Radio. What Up.
It's the Doug Gottlieb Show, Fox Sports Radio. Come into
you from beautiful sunny Los Angeles, California, where nobody cares
about football. Help football. They just don't, but you do,

(01:22:47):
and we miss it and we love to talk about it.
We will this hour also and his cantor is gonna
be our guest. Of course, he just got done on
a zoo trip. On a zoo trip. Uh, Oklahoma City
Thunder went on a zoo trip, a bonding trip. I
wonder what the discussion about Kevin Durant's tweets were like
about uh and as cantors tweets were like, we'll we'll

(01:23:12):
find out as he'll join us upcoming in fifteen minutes.
Crazy start for the Tampay Buccaneers season, right, they're on
hard knocks and I always it's one of those deals,
deals like I always fall in love with the team
on hard knocks. But I thought Jamis Winston showed himself
to be, at least on TV in a faux reality show,

(01:23:33):
some sort of reality show, the only one we have
in the NFL. Uh, quite the leader and the team
has won, the young, energetic and seemingly poised to make
a run at the playoffs. And when you move the
Dolphins game, which was moved because the hurricane. Now you
look three of the first four or at home they
take on the Vikings this weekend. We don't know if

(01:23:54):
Sam Bradford's gonna play. If he doesn't play, boy, you
gotta feel a lot better about your chances of going
into the Dome and getting to win. So there's a
ton of football things to talk about, and uh, let's
do so with the renaissance Man. The cornerback for the
Tampa Buccaneers, Robert McClain, joins us on the Doug Gottli Show.

(01:24:14):
How are you? I'm good, good man? What was that?
What was that? Like? Where everybody else in the NFL
is getting ready for their season, your game was postponed
with the Dolphins. So it caused you, guys, uh to
to kind of move all over the place and not
play for a week in terms of how prepared you
were for the Bears. Help you or hurt you that

(01:24:35):
you didn't play the week before? Uh, you know, it
was it was really it was tough. You know, it
was really tough because we're all, you know, very competitive
people and it's where we play and uh, just watching
authority teams play on that Sunday and know it was tough,
even though you know, through natural disasters, not like we
can do anything about that. Uh, well, you know it
was tough. You know, we do we are competitors and

(01:24:55):
what we do and how we prepare for what we
do on Sunday. So it was watching authority teams. But but
but yeah, but yeah fresh legs though fresh legs doesn't hurt. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
you know it was good kind of resting up at
the camp and all that stuff. But just like I said,
you know, we're competitors. We want to play on Sunday,
and uh, it's the first that the first we get
a season, so you know, everybody's excited to get out
there and you know, really show what they can do.

(01:25:16):
Obviously you weren't in Tampa when Mike Glennon was there,
but based upon performance of the defense, uh, it feels
like it feels like you guys knew a lot about
Glennon coming into it. How much were their veteran guys
like Glennan likes to do this, Oh we got Glennon here.
How much of Glennon's past was using the prep a

(01:25:39):
little bit because you know, you know a lot of
the closes here are very familiar with Glennon and uh,
you know his style of play. You know, they they
practiced with them, they played against him in training camp practices,
OTI practices. So you know a lot of guys had
a lot a lot of states to kind of really
gain that competitive edge over them. You know, he's still
a great quarterback, still a very accurate pastor, but we
were able to do some things to kind of you know,

(01:26:00):
get pressure on them to where you can get the ball.
McLean joining us on the Doug Gatlin Show on Fox
Sports Radio. What do you think about all your thoughts
on Jamis before you met him, I knew he was
a great leader, you know, just just you know, seeing
him come out of college and you know, competing against him,
you know, on opposing teams, you know, uh, studying film

(01:26:21):
against him and stuff. You know, I've seen the kind
of leader he is and kind of watch them growing
the league a lot. You know, it's always tough. It
could be up, it could be quarterback getting into the
league and really being successful or really you know, uh
taking the teaching of what the NFL you know, takes
to win on Sundays, and uh, you can really tell
Jamis has grown a lot just from me, no times

(01:26:42):
I've studied film against him and even being on his team. Now, okay,
so what what about him impresses you maybe even more
on the inside before when you're on the outside. Uh,
just that he's getting better and better through every practice,
through every week. Uh, he's a guy that's gonna get
defeated by if he makes a mistake. He's not gonna

(01:27:02):
get defeated if he uh makes the wrong decision or
the play. You know, he's a guy who's gonna go
out there and give it a give a percent if
he comes. He comes to the facility early every single day.
He hasn't changed any routine he's done from April when
I'm pretty sure he's been like that his whole career.
So just watching him now as a teammate, you know,
really giving even more respect for him as a player.
Rob McClain joining us in Tampa. Buccaneers Buckos are one

(01:27:26):
and oh on the season, dominating the Chicago Bears. They
had to Minnesota take on the Vikings this week. How
do you how do you how do you prep for
a team where you don't know who their quarterback is
gonna be? Uh? You just prep the best way you can.
You look at both quarterbacks. You know, whether it takes
studying your looks for film on both quarterbacks, you just
have to do what you have to do to get
it for Sunday. You know, you know what I means.
This is how the NFL is. You don't know who's
gonna play on Sunday sometime. You know, guys sit out

(01:27:48):
all week and they then pop up and play Sunday.
So you gotta repairs though, both quarterbacks are gonna play,
and uh, just go take it from there, Doug Gottli Show,
You're on Fox Sports Radio. Okay, look, this isn't at
your first rodeo, but you have a pretty good sense
of this team when I say, like, you look around
the division and Carolina's two and up, but they've got
all kinds of injuries, right. Uh, the Saints are oh

(01:28:11):
and too. Obviously Atlanta looks like they're legit. They beat
the Bears, although they didn't beat them as bad as
you beat them to beat him on the road. Then
they turn around they look great against Green Bay. Like,
what's what's what's your reasonable expectations for the Buccaneers? H
No expectations. You know we're all here taking in one
game at a time. Oh wait, wait, wait, you can't
go one game at a time. Oh yeah, I mean
that's I mean, that's how that's personally how I mean,

(01:28:33):
I could care less about your bus sees it. But
you know, for us as players, you know, you can't
look too far ahead as a player. You know, you
gotts just take it literally, one game at time. I mean,
I've been on teams that have you know, have one
have gone to a NFC championships, have gone Super Bowl,
and uh, you know, you really do have taken one
game at a time. You know, if you start looking
too far a hey, you start losing focus on on

(01:28:53):
your your real goal. You have to accomplish it. That
Sunday you mentioned, you know, playing in the Super Bowl.
You remember, you know obviously you played, uh in this
You've just kind of lived in this division, starting out
in Carolina, going to Atlanta, going to Carolina before making
your way to Tampa Bay as a as a free agent.
Um does it? But you also know there usually is
a difference. It's like a different feel and it's a

(01:29:14):
playoff team, right and does it? It seems to feel
that way, or at least that's the expectations. That that
crazy to say that that's the feeling you guys have. Uh,
I mean everybody has those feelings. You know, there's a
lot of teams that I also want to know too
and all also you know, uh, everybody that's undefeated right now,
I had those feelings and even the teams that are

(01:29:35):
undefeated because still out those feelings. You know, it's early
in the season, so not nothing really panned out. There's
no playoff picture, there's nothing like that right now. So
just like like I said, you know, my focus is
always preparing for the next opponent. You know, if I
look to to the Giants or of the Patriots, you know,
it lose focus on what I really have to do
to accompass a win. As we this Sunday, Robt McClean

(01:29:56):
joining us. He's also he's also an artist. Do I
go artist or ARTI which do you prefer? Our artists? Fun?
Cool artists? Yeah, I mean our artists artists is more. Okay, Wait,
so when when you signed, didn't you get like a tat?
Didn't you get a tat like one's like a famous
Taggers tat and then you got like a Da Vinci tat? Right? Yeah,

(01:30:16):
so the day I got h this, his name is
Jean Michael Boskia, and uh, he's a famous like graffiti artists,
first coming out in New York. And uh, when I
first got his tattoo, he's he's one of my favorite artists.
And also I got leaning out of the Benchi's signature
right underneath it, and uh, they're both just my favorite
artists because of how their styles were and kind of

(01:30:39):
how off the wall they were pretty much. And uh,
you know, the day I got his tattoo. The next day,
Boskia sold one of his paintings. And he's dead now,
but Bosca sold one of his paintings for for over
a hundred million dollars, So that was he was the
first American artist to even sell a painting for over
a hundred million. He's up there with top five in
the world. Don't you wish you had gotten him to

(01:31:00):
do the tattoo like he he had done the tattoo.
How valuable would your arm b right? Now? Yeah? My arm?
I mean I probably I probably laminate my arms if
he tattooed my arms for me, so uh, I probably
wouldn't be bathing in that arm anymore. But yeah, he was.
He's a real good artist, and uh, you know, when
I got that tattoo, you know something just always wanted

(01:31:21):
to get something on my body that had to relate
to my heart and how I feel about my heart.
So now that was kind of big for me, not
knowing that its appeacially being auctioned off the next day
after I got that tattoo. And then how did you
get the how do you decide on the like with
the autograph, Like, it's not just that you're going to
get Leonardo Vince's um autographed as a tattoo. You got

(01:31:42):
to decide who's going to do that tattoo, right, because yeah,
because you wanted to look accurate. So how do you
how do you go even through the process of that
just talking to a bunch of teammates, you know, sitting
there ink you know, the guy that tattooed my back
for me, he also he helped so taught me some
things on how to tattoo because me, I like anything

(01:32:04):
artistic really, so I just wanted to learn how to
you know, tattoo and just learn the ins and outs
of it. And uh, just seeing some guy's inks and like,
all right, this guys get a line work, just got
this guy has been shading. You know, I kind of
know some things to look for and what not to
look for. So when I found this artist, I've seen
some of his line work and shading and seeing how
accurate he was de pict you know, having a picture

(01:32:26):
in front of them, being able to tattoo down on
somebody's skin. I was able to, you know, be able
to like, all right, you know, this guy's gonna be
good enough for me to get this meaningful tattoo for me.
And it came out exactly like it was drawn. So
do you ever you ever line up against the guy
at a corner or your nicke or whatever and be like, damn,
I dud's got some good ink. I gotta remind myself
to ask him where he got that afterwards. No, I don't.

(01:32:46):
I don't do that. Maybe maybe it's just if it's
my teammate. But when it comes to an opponent and
I had no clue, who admit what his middle name is,
if he has children or anything like that, When it
comes to that, it's just between the line. I just
keep it. I just keep it all professional football, all right.
So who's got who has the worst tattoo on the Buccaneers,
or yeah, or maybe the worst tattoo who's like the

(01:33:08):
one I played with the guy in college, Jason keep
who had a big Daddy tattoo only with d a D.
Wise we call him big Daity because they misspelled daddy
on his arm. Story. Everybody, everybody here in Tampa. They
pretty much had pretty pretty good solid egg You know
a lot of guys, somebody, somebody's got something that's bad.
I mean, I haven't seen everybody's see it, so I
can't really tell who has bad inc or not. You

(01:33:30):
know a lot of guys have you know, full sleeves
or entire back pieces, so you kind of just see
the whole picture of things. You don't really see the
details and things like that. But yeah, a lot of
guys when the team had pretty pretty solid eggs. So listen,
safe travels up to Minnesota. Look forward to talking to
the season rolls on. Congrats on the win, Thanks for
joining us on Fox Sports Radio. All right. Robert McClain,

(01:33:51):
who's really interesting, an artist, very thoughtful guy. The guy
who plays all over that defensive backfield, rebuilt defensive backfield
for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His cancer is going to
join us up coming next. He defended the Thunder after
Kevin Durant's critical comments on Twitter the other day. Well
he feels I'm gonna ask him, he's gonna feel the same.
What if the Thunder trade and its cantor still be like,

(01:34:12):

in one in listen, we're gonna trade you to the

(01:35:39):
don't we don't have any more barefoot kickers? Do you
know what? Send? We don't have any more barefoot kickers?
Are there any barefoot kickers in the NFL? I don't
recall any Who is the last barefoot kicker? Who was
the first barefoot kicker? And why does no one kick
barefoot anymore? Like there's no left handed quarterbacks? Um? I

(01:36:04):
remember Mike Lansford US kicked for the Rams. He was
a barefoot kicker. You know there used to be uh
used to be about I would say eight twenty split
on shoe to barefoot kicker, right, And then there was
also there was a time there where occasionally more in
college you'd see a toe kicker. Nobody toe kicks anymore.
You just don't have the distance on that sucker. But

(01:36:28):
the big thing is now everybody wears the shoe. Who
was the first? Does anybody like there's got to be
some sort of research done this, right? I told you.
Phil Sims claims that he had the first back shoulder
back shoulder pass. I don't know. We'll do some research
on that and get to it in a moment. The
tweets heard around the world were apparently truly authored by

(01:36:51):
Kevin Durant, And yesterday Kevin Durant offered up some form
of apology when he was at a conference, a tech
conference in um in northern California. Remember he tweeted about
you know, he tweeted, basically in third person, even though
it was on his own Twitter handle, that he couldn't

(01:37:13):
win with those cats, Cats being teammates in Oklahoma City.
He was the organization. It was Billy Donovan. It had
nothing to do with him and Russ. Take Russ off
that team and look at how bad they were. This
was Kevin Durant's apology yesterday to engage with the fans,
but I happened to take it a little too far,
and that's what happened. Sometimes when I get into these

(01:37:36):
basketball debates, and I don't regret clapping back at anybody
or talking to my fans on Twitter, I do regret
using my former coaches name and the former organization that
I played for. That was childish, all right? So he
he didn't say he was. He said he shouldn't used
their name. That was childish. He didn't say that it
wasn't true or that it wasn't him. So I don't know.
Let's let's catch up with Ani's cantor a former teammates

(01:37:59):
uh of Kevin Durance in Oklahoma City, granted only for
I think the second half of that last season. He
had his own tweet out there and you guys just
got done at the Zoo, right. Yeah, Actually we came
up from the Zoo. We had a thunder chair event
and it was awesome, all right, So it was awesome. Um,
when when the tweets first came out, before Kevin Durant

(01:38:21):
owned up to yeah, those are my tweets, did you
think it was him? Uh? No, I did not think
it was him. I thought somebody just made that up,
made that picture and put his real account of stuff.
I didn't think, uh, he was gonna do such a
thing like that. But after I learned that it was him,
the first thing, I was just really really sad. I mean,

(01:38:43):
I wasn't angry, I wasn't mad whatever. Before before I
was just really sad. Did you I'm sure you've texted
with other teammates. What was everybody else's reaction? Actually I
did not, because I mean, we are getting ready for
four the season. We don't want this kind of distraction
and affect us. So I don't really want to text
or um, you know, I just say anything. But when

(01:39:05):
I get in the locker room today, I told myself
what's up cats, and every just a lot of people
just start laughing. Okay, so here's I'll read your your tweet.
I don't care what anyone says. Oklahoma City Thunder the
best or and most professional organizations, the NBA got the
craziest fans. Well, we win, we lose, but most important,
we stick together because we are one and those cats
I call them family. Um, So, like, why did you

(01:39:29):
previous to this why do you think that Katie left? Oh,
I mean she he left. I feel like you wanted to.
I mean he wanted to. He don't get him wrong, man,
I'm not telling no shades or anything. He's obviously one
of the top five player in the league. So but
he was getting too much. Sheet said, oh he got

(01:39:49):
no rings. He's not gonna play, but he got no rings.
So I feel like you got sight of all this talking.
So I just wanted to. I don't take the easy way,
but um, you gotta understand, in the end, it's a business.
It's kind of nothing about him. Actually, you know he left.
He left. I mean, we're just gonna keep going. We
cannot stop. And then of course, you guys, there was
a lot of a lot of trash talk this year,

(01:40:11):
especially when he came back to Oklahoma City. The fans were, uh,
we're showing up in cupcakes. Uh, and then you know,
even he has the cupcake sneakers, like did you know
did you know that he was was this bothered by
what people said about him? I means yeah, because because
I mean if you look at this organism like basketball,

(01:40:31):
this the Oklahoma City founded is the only major sport
in this state. So this state loved him when he
was here, This state him everything. They picked them the
state of Hall of Fame, and he got every he
got everything what he asked for, so like all this
thing everything whatever. But when he and that was his

(01:40:52):
franchise and when he left, I feel like he just
you know, broke broke. A lot of people's heard, a
lot of people spend a lot of kids hearts. So
that's why we're just really sad for me and as
cancer joining us on the Doug Gotlips Show. Obviously, most
I would say hurtful is he basically says, hey, outside

(01:41:12):
of Russell Westbrook, they don't have that's the Cats. They
don't have good enough players. Um, did you ever think
that he thought that when he was a member of
the Thunder. No, we never, I mean we never thought
because like every time we were trying to you know,
just trying to protect him. I mean he asked for
the ball almost every time. He wanted to touch the

(01:41:33):
ball every time, and then and everybody pass passed the ball,
and you know, he shouldn't be missed. And then we
said a bull shot, just keep going because I mean,
if you look at our team, we took good shots
be two bad shots. Everything does it. But we don't
blame each other. We don't point fingers each other. And
that's that's our thing. When I said, we win, we lose,

(01:41:56):
but we stick together. I mean you look, you look
at our you know games last year. We know we
lost a lot of games. We won't lots of games,
you know, but we never you know, just point fingers
and say that was your fault, your fault. We never
blame each other. That was the most important thing. And
then the second one. If you look at us, he

(01:42:16):
could say the same thing people say, oh, I'm the
only best player in this team, and if I leave,
this team is going down. But he never said anything
like that. He said this is my team. I'm gonna
take care of my team. And we know that he's
the leader. We know that's his job to lead us.
But he never say, Okay, I'm the good I'm the
only good player in this team, and if I leave,

(01:42:36):
you guys, you guys, I'm not going to ever make
the playoffs. When he never said something like that. He
always try to give us confidence and that's what makes
us really special. One they haven't you guys, added Paul
George via trade in the off season. But but now
you get like, look, you have a lot of big
guys on the roster. I know you have a great
amount of affection for Oklahoma City since coming over from Utah.

(01:42:57):
Would you feel the same though, if they end up
trading you right, like, let's say they go like, hey,
we got we got Doma Sabonis. You know, we got
Steven Adams, We're gonna trade you. Would you still feel
the same amount of affection for for for the organization.
Let me tell you something, man, I mean from the
day one. I'm not just talking about the organization, the
whole fans, whole state open their arms from the first day,

(01:43:18):
and I felt like, you know, what's all the craziest
cess craziness going on in Turkey whatever. But when I
come back, all these people were texting me welcome, Welcome
to your home. They didn't say welcome America, they said
welcome home. So I mean, from the first day they
open their arms, they gave everything. They always supported us.

(01:43:38):
We mean we lose. They were always there. But if
they trade me, like you say, you know, you gotta
understand it's a business, But I got no, I wouldn't
have no you know, hard feelings. I would not you know,
say nothing crazy about the organization, nothing crazy about the coaches,
the players, because I mean, they're my family, man, because
we are in the work together right now. If I leave,

(01:43:59):
I and not just say, oh, you guys, I like this,
you guys are bad because at this whatever. Alright, So
I'm looking at you guys. Schedule November, you know, November
two is yep, yeah, I mean November. Golden State comes
to town. Uh, comes to the Peak and takes out

(01:44:20):
the Oakland. The game's nationally televised. Last year was last
year was and look, I played college ball in Oklahoma.
I have the same amount of affection for people in
Oklahoma as well. Um, what do you think that? But
last year it was vicious. What's this year gonna be? Like?
I feel like it's going to be more crazy. Man.
Now we've got the all the you know, new pieces,
we got the Apaulo George, you know, Patterson and Raymond Helson,

(01:44:44):
and I feel like it's gonna be a you know,
crazy game. I feel like it's gonna change. They might
start wearing some you know cats T shirt cats, you know,
all this all this look, it might be a new
look in the tundra this year. Amazing to cats. So,
so you got back from the zoo. What was your
favorite animal at the zoo. I've been the Oklama City Zoo.

(01:45:04):
It's pretty nice. What was your favorite animal? Man, Probably
I'm opposed to video and a little probably the sea lions.
Sea lion, Like, yeah, give me a chiss. It was amazing.
It was I've never explained anything like that before. All right, well, listen,
love it. It was love at first sight and it's
great stuff. Thanks so much for joining us. Uh, stay

(01:45:25):
healthy and get ready for the season. We'll talk to
you soon. Man. All right, that's and it's Cantor joining
us on the Doug Gottlieb Show. Fascinating. Then how about
I like? How about that? That's by the way, Like, look,
I have an incredible amount of affinity for the state
of Oklahoma. I've always it was. It's the same, like
it's it's just different. When they like you there, they
put your and when you're one of you become one
of them, they put your arms around you. Uh. But

(01:45:48):
I kind of think to the rest of the league,
I kind of think this explains a little bit more.
And while it it's more hurtful maybe to those other
to those teammates in him City and Billy Donovan and
to the organization, like you look outside and and look,
this part of this is hunterd Forty characters isn't enough

(01:46:08):
because he can't say, Hey, that organization had James Harden
and let him walk because they didn't want to go
into the luxury tax. Like the moves that they made
didn't make us better, and so we ended up having
me and Russ and uh uh and that wasn't enough.
That wasn't enough interesting conversation. Don't don't let the name

(01:46:32):
full you Dollar Shape Club as more than just razors.
Try the first month the starter set with travel size
Shape butter body cleanser, butt wipes, and executive razor, all
for just five dollars. After that, replacement cartridge ship for
just a few bucks a month. To get yours a
Dollar Shape Club dot com slash godly, let's get to
dan Fire November twenty two. I need to buy tickets
right now. How good did that be? I've been I've

(01:46:54):
been very critical over Covern Durant's decision to leave Oklahoma City,
but I will say one thing, Doug that I don't
think anybody has mentioned would Kevin Durant be speaking at
tech Crunch if he stayed in Oklahoma City last week?
And that was one of the reasons, one of the
options or one of the things that we heard of. Hey,
there may be more opportunities for Kevin Durant to get
out there in the Bay area and to to hook

(01:47:16):
up with tech companies and good for his shoe brand
and all those other things. I don't think he's I
don't think he's speaking there yesterday, all right, is that
but just I don't know, probably, but there's plenty other
I mean, he could have gotten it on tech Crunch.
He's Kevin durand he probably could have gotten it on
tech Crunch. But yeah, I mean I guess if that's
I guess, like, look, he didn't, but he didn't say

(01:47:38):
like I left because of tech Crunch. I left because
I want to be in the tech industry. Like that's
a uh, that's a bonus. But yeah, that's isn't that
part of the whole like grand scheme? And I said,
I've never maybe maybe that's become the grand scheme. But like, look,
his by his own words, by his own by his
own words, they weren't good enough to win a championship
with with the roster that they had. He liked playing

(01:47:59):
for lead Donovan. That's why he laughed, like that's the
that's the great thing. It also just proves that what
people normally say on Twitter, you can't actually speak the
truth on Twitter. When you do, you get slammed down.
He spoke the truth on Twitter and people like, oh,
what are you saying? You You say mean things about guys,
and you become the bad guy. I'm available to speak

(01:48:20):
at Nestle Crunch if anybody is wondering. Giants lead the
Rockies right now, top of the seventh inning, three to nothing.
We'll get some more baseball in a bit. But in
the NFL, patriotstended Rob Grodkowski practice today despite suffering a
groin injury in Week two against the Saints. Danny Amondola
back from his concussion. Jordan Reids banged up for the
Washington Redskins. In fact, Jake Cruden just said he's not

(01:48:41):
healthy right now. Chess contusion broken to so Reid didn't practice.
Remains day to day. Redskins have the Raiders coming up
on Sunday Night. Football Panthers have the Saints coming to
town of Wide receiver Calvin Benjamin didn't practice today because
of neat and rib injuries. Sam Bradford was on the
practice field on a limited basis throwing passes today, but
remains day today with the knee injury. Some College Football

(01:49:02):
News twenty fifth rank tell us you maybe without running
back Darius Guys against Syracuse this Saturday because of a
knee injury. Head coach at Orseron says he's very questionable
to play in the game against the Orange. While in
Major League Baseball, John Carlos Stanton home run number fifty six.
Today Marlins topped the Mets nine to two, and the
Yankees magic number to clinch the American League wild card spots.

(01:49:23):
Top the wild card standings is down to four. They
beat the Twins today eleven to three. Aaron Judge, who's
forty five home run of the season, thuff, this's a
big game in San Francisco. You know why, Yes, I do.
The Brewers are a game back of the Rockies for
the final wild card in the NNL. Well, then there's
the other side too, okay. Uh. The San Francisco Giants
had the fewest wins in Major League Baseball with fifty nine.

(01:49:45):
The White Sox have sixty. The Phillies have sixty. The
one differences the Giants have played more games there fifty
nine and ninety three. The Phillies are sixty and ninety one,
so they've played a couple less games. Uh, and the
Chicago White Sox are sixty and nineties. So at least
in the wind column, the uh, the San Francisco Giants

(01:50:06):
would pull even for the fewest winds in Major League Baseball. Oh,
how the Mighty have fallen? Now? Look? Part of part
of the Giants debacle this year, um has been the
fact that they're in the best division in baseball, right
quite possibly three playoff teams you mentioned the Brewers. Three
playoff teams in one division. But a lot of it

(01:50:28):
is just the Giants. Who are they bad? Who are
they bad? That that thing happened fast? Right, That's a
life comes at you fast if you haven't been playing.
Did you guys all know that? Do you know how
bad San Francisco Giants were? Ramos? I'm sure Ramos always

(01:50:49):
knew that. It comes to the Giants. When it comes
to the Giants, I definitely know how bad they are. This,
but but at first you didn't know. I mean, like
with bum Garner more quait like you. I think bum
Garner in that motorcycle crash that he had when he
was writing, and I think that changed their season. What
is with San Francisco Giants and motorcycle crashes. I don't know.

(01:51:09):
Hunter Pence had a one too, right, I think j
Jeff can't. You just can't have the most famous one
right where he lied about in said he was cleaning
his truck. Didn't he be in his truck? Yea? Yeah,
um yeah, I mean Matt Caine with a five point
six six e r A. That's that's bad right there,
Like that is that is no kind of good. Matt
Moore with a five point three nine e r A

(01:51:31):
like oh and and hurt you know, um tie tie
Blatch with a four point nine like just pitching, just bad, bad,
bad pitching and in that park, a huge park. But
that's one of those deals to where it because what's
crazy about it? Buster Posey actually having a good year,
having a good year, but pitching has just been awful.

(01:51:56):
And it's a pictures park, so that's one. It's the
easiest way to tell if somebody has been paying any
attention to baseball. Is if you go like, how about
those San Francisco Giants? Huh? And if they go like, yeah,
you know, really good year, Like yeah, you know that
Bruce you just started going like, you know Bruce Bocci
and Joe Panic and yeah, yeah those guys mad bum

(01:52:21):
love mad bum. Oh yeah, playhouse. Right Like you say that,
you're like, oh, you haven't watched an inning of baseball
this year, Like you don't know anything. The Dodgers Indians.
I saw this, I thought this was I thought this
was really interesting. Um, Richard Sherman had some non critical

(01:52:43):
critical comments of his offense, So like, look, I kind
of feel like this is borderline Lebron James passive aggressive.
So once you listen to let me read you the
comments and then you guys tell me. Remember this is
an the fence with Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, Michael Bennett
camp Chance or Bobby Wagner kJ right now, Sheldon Richardson

(01:53:07):
and they're one on one now they're not owing too
and they do play at Tennessee, a team who lost
Week one of the season to the Raiders at home.
But you know, the issue has been their offense isn't great.
So here's the quote. We've got a lot of highly
paid guys on our side of the ball, a lot
of guys who played the game at a high level.
There's a certain standard that's expected. We expected of ourselves.

(01:53:31):
We expect that regardless of what happens on the other
side of the ball. At the end of the day,
it's really on us. He went on. It's not any
tougher for us um or anything different. We think about
we've got to hold ourselves to a high standard. You've
got guys like Mike Bennett and Cliff Avorroe, Bobby Wagner,

(01:53:53):
Cam kJ et cetera, et cetera. Down to the line.
Earl myself, rookie is playing lights out football. We've got
to get stops like that. I mean, I understand that
he's not actually calling out the offense. Like he did
not say the offense has to be better. But he
also did not say, hey, we're one team. He didn't
say like, hey, it's the offense. It's us. We're together.

(01:54:15):
We play well, and we win the game. That's all
that matters. Like we play well, they don't play. Whatever
whatever happened they score, they don't score. We just gotta
keep playing, play together, stick together kind of like what
and as Candre just said, right when we together, we
lose together. Whenever we stick together, That's not what he said. Like,
we got a bunch of big name dudes, highly paid dudes.
We gotta play, hold ourselves to a high standard. We
can't worry about over there. In other words, over there sucks.

(01:54:42):
But now, my, you guys, am I taking too big?
My taking too big a leap with that, Dan, you're
a Seahawks fan. I'm not saying he'd be wrong if
he said it, but is the way in which he
said it purposeful? I I think that the offense need
need to to take a step up because there's only

(01:55:02):
so much that these guys can do. And I think
of of Richard Sherman of putting it on the shoulders
of of the defense, which they've done for the last
four years is par for the course. But I think
people have been waiting, they've been winning for Daryl Bevil offense.
So anything Richard Sherman says defensive wise of what they
need to do, I think it's purposeful because right now
it's fact the offense just didn't I didn't say, but

(01:55:23):
I didn't say. It's not fact. And maybe it's because
we don't have We're not built. We're just not built
to accept that players can criticize other players within the
locker room outside of a locker room, like as as
fans right like like, don't get me wrong, Richard Richard Sherman,
I'm sure has has said loud enough so that the

(01:55:44):
offense can hear. You know, y'all got to score. Touched
a couple of touchdowns over here. When you score a touchdown,
make an extra point. They missed an extra point. That's
why they had twelve, not thirteam, but he but outside
of it, like it just remember they they they put
him out there as trade bait, talked about moving on

(01:56:04):
from him. And this is not a unifier. While it
may motivate the offense, the offense is motivated to score
more regardless. I don't know the fact of watching this
team over the last well it's this is now entering
the third year. Let's really say, because you even rain

(01:56:25):
down there their early season struggles that they've had in
the past is each year you think, okay, the offense
is maybe going to take a step forward, and it
doesn't do that. Russell Wilson has had some great stretches
during the season, and they usually come later on in
the year where you think the offense is taking some
of that that load off of the defensive shoulders. But
this has been on the defense for the last five years,

(01:56:46):
and at some point I even thought the Seahawks defense
was going to take a step back this year because
it's just you can't keep on doing that. So I
think a lot of at least Seahawks fans or people
that follow the team are wondering, Okay, yeah, you know
what good job you've on your work offense. If you're
mad about it now, defense, that's fine because they've done
it for the last five years. Um. I also think

(01:57:07):
it would be fair to say you've got a lot
of highly paid guys, Like, remember we've discussed this, that
that is the that offensive line has the lowest percentage
of salary cap of any offensive line in the NFL.
Like that's kind of part of the deal, Like, hey,
you guys all want to stay, you guys all want
to get paid. Something has to give, and that's what's
given that that's what they've tried to draft their way
out of it and that that is that is more

(01:57:27):
missed than hit. Bad news from former number one overall pick.
I'll share it with you. Coming next, what True Car.

Doug Gottlib Show, Fox Sports Radio. Ramas, you got some
soccer games this weekend? I have two games this weekend,

(01:57:50):
Lucas early games, Sarah the later game on the day. Uh.
Not taking the Jewish holiday off doesn't mean that I'm Ramas.
I didn't know Ramis you go there? Yeah? Sorry about Russia.
Shanna is Happy New Year. Happy New Year to my
peeps as of now, and I don't think I need
to take this because it's not really work right like

(01:58:11):
you're supposed to take work off, although sometimes working with
John Ramos is in fact work press. If you say
something he doesn't like, or talk about religion, he doesn't
get down with He just uh, he just plays a
pre produced piece. That's that's what he does. What he
got for me, Dan Buyer, Oh, we've got a dandy
coming up. Let me just put it that way. But

(01:58:34):
first we start off with this to Stanton, that's it
a long way deep left center toward the Cleveland or
number fifty six. It's a three hole run inning for
the Marlins. They've broken it wide open Miami nine and
the Mets too, number fifty six. As you heard on
the Marlins radio network for John Carlos Stanton. Marlins did

(01:58:54):
beat the Mets today nine to two. Okay, so they
have how many have ten games left? Right? Yeah, something
like that. Uh, what do you consider the home run record?
I think if he gets to sixty two, it's going
to be a big deal. I think so too. I think,
I mean, I will consider him the home run king
if he hit sixty two. I don't None of those
guys who went over six sixty did it on the

(01:59:16):
on the up and up. He will be the home
run king if he goes over over. But isn't it.
This is the problem with steroid users. Okay. There's the
problem is they've stolen glory from guys like John Carlos Tan. Yeah. Yeah,
we look at the past. We should have looked ahead
of the future to see what it's all about. All right, guys, yep,
get on your feet, stand up, he is high, is far.

(01:59:41):
Here comes the judge. His judgment day is a two
run home run, and the Yankees are right back in
the game. They ended up routing the Twins eleven to three.
ERA judges run on the Yankees Radio network. More importantly,
the Twins lose, so the Angels, who have lost two
in a row, get a chance, uh to climb within

(02:00:03):
a half game of the Twins as they take on
the Cleveland Indians tonight. Um Ricky Nalasko will Rickie n
Alaska will go on them out. Um, he's got fourteen
losses on the year. Fourteen losses. That's a playoff team

(02:00:23):
right there. Uh. So Ricky and Alasko goes against He's
six and four team with the five eleven e r
A for his career oh and three with a five
point three two e r A and eight appearances seven
starts against the Cleveland Indians. Jason Kitness and Jose Ramirez
have owned him. They'll go against Josh Tomlin, who's the

(02:00:45):
Indians starter. Tomlin has an equally putrid e r A.
So it looks like a high scoring game at the
Big A. The Halos Corner continues with this stat Doug
the Angels organization announced that they have sold more than
three million tickets for the fifteen straight year in an
amazing Yes, it's a team. I mean, like Mike Trout's awesome.
I still think best player in baseball. Uh he's got

(02:01:08):
a six point seven war, twenty nine home runs home
runs in a hundred and three games play, So like
just crazy numbers. Um, But like in the l a
sports seen a total non player in the national sports scene,
a total non player. And yet here's a secret. They
sell three main tickets every year. This may be a

(02:01:30):
secret to some, but you should know about it. It's
actually a London week in the National Football League, the
first of four games taking place in London this weekend.
And I read this statu on Pro football Talk dot
com Doug that in the ten years that the NFL
has been playing games in London consistently, there was never
people who have cared they're all close. There's never been

(02:01:51):
a matchup of two winning teams. Now we have the
two and old Ravens and a one in one Jaguar team,
but five not a winning record. Never in the ten
years has the game featured two teams with actual winning records.
Because we always sell that. Send the Dolphins and the
Jaguars there right the excuse me, sorry, John, go ahead,

(02:02:15):
I just want to be respectful. The Jaguars have brought
records of one in one, oh and three, one in five,
one in eight, and yeah, that's it so far. During
you just want to make sure you don't get kiffined
out there in the middle of the ocean. You're gonna
get you know, you don't get tarmac fired. So anyway,
Doug Marone will make it back because he's only two
games into his coaching. Here what else you got? Yeah? Quickly? Yeah,

(02:02:37):
who's Dan Wessel did a pizza on Leonard four Nette?
Who could become a bigger star? Because now maybe there's
someone with star power with the Jaguars unless he spells
his last name with E, which is not like theater.
Jay Z said thanks but no thanks to the NFL's
offered to perform at Super Bowl fifty two. According to
the source, so jay Z was gonna be the halftime
show but said thanks, but no thanks. They already had

(02:02:59):
beyond say and he like he wouldn't it, like he
wouldn't perform at halftime, saying that maybe because he sides
with Colin Kaepernick didn't want to work with the NFL
on this. They didn't pay. If they pay, he will,
he will show up. And that's the press. Get out
there and pressed. That was the press. You know. It's
funny like we talked about like, oh, there's all these

(02:03:20):
other sports also, stuff like are you getting check in
with any other sport tonight? Right? Like I I I
could go to the angel game, but I'm not going to.
My son is a baseball scrimmage. I'm gonna da I'll
be baseballs out at the end of it. But hey, look,
we celebrate the Jewish New Year tomorrow with an incredible,
incredible football game the Rams and the Niners five thirty

(02:03:45):
West Coast start. You could give those tickets away and
people would not take him. Bryan Bald Digger and a R. J.
Bell tomorrow. Have a great and happy New Year to
my peeps. Doug Oatl Lip Show, Fox Sports Radio,
